I choose this ship for its 6 stars, and the itinerary. Our reservations included the airfare. Sivlersea had us booked on a overnight United flight. Arrived in Ft. Lauderdale right after 6 AM. We were picked up at the airport and taken to a hotel for breakfast. The check in table at the hotel did not have our information. They were eventually able to provide us with a $20/ person coupon for breakfast. Restaurant was mediocre. We had to wait at the hotel until 12:15 to be taken to the ship. The bus ride was not well planned, lots of confusion. The check in at the ship went smoothly. Waited about 30 minutes for our room and another 2 hours for our luggage. The suite was very nice. Divided into a bedroom and sitting area. Nice size balcony. Walk in closet, with a dresser. Bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a soaking tub and a shower. The service in the room was excellent by both the butler and the cleaning staff. I ordered breakfast most morings, which was delivered in 5 minutes. The quality of the food and wine ran from average to very good. They did have great icecream. We have traveled often on Crystal and found their food to be much better. Silversea have two specialty restaurants which charge an additional fee. We found the food to be of less quality then the regular restaurants. There were two specialty acts which we thought were very good, but the regular entertainers and shows were of poor quality. Two guest speakers were good. We choose to make our own tour reservations, which were excellent. Did go on one of Silversea's tour. Too many people, too much shopping, and too slow. The embarkation was slow and confusing. Should I cruise on Silversea in the future I would make my own arrangements. Read Less

We choose this cruise line and ship because friends raved about it and we enjoy luxury cruising. Sadly, we did not think it lived up to the standard we are used to on Crystal. 1. There were things not working on the ship. The forward elevator was out the entire trip and it was out the cruise before ours. Our room was freezing for 2 days before my husband found the head of Hotel and she got engineering/maintenance to get it working after an assistant tried to fix it and said it was working, but still was not. 2. Many people got sick while aboard 3. Menus were never changed in the different restaurants with the exception being on Christmas and New Years. Only the La Dame ($60 per person charge) was cozy with an outstanding menu. We went twice. 4. We enjoyed the different all day snacks at The Arts Cafe in the back of the ship with lounge seating outside as well. At 3:00 five different cakes were served and different ones each day. Different salads in a small glass container, great coffees, cookies, sandwiches, etc. 5. We also enjoyed the Panorama Lounge before dinner with live music, dancing and cocktails. 6. We liked the ambiance in The Silver Note restaurant and the lovely live dinner music during dinner. The menu was not very much to our liking very though. We liked the menu at Indochine restaurant, but not the decor as it was very contemporary, open and not cozy. The outside restaurant at night was by the pool and called "Hot Rocks" where you cook your own steaks or fish or whatever on a very hot plate. I had the best filet mignon I've ever had there. 7. Most of the shows were so-so with the exception of two, which were excellent. The Silver Note Singers did their best. 8. No one remembered our name except our butler and his assistant. 9. Most all of the staff was very friendly, although a couple of the men in charge in the restaurants had “attitude”. Most everyone tries, but do not quite make the cut. 10. Not very many activities but they had bridge play and lessons, black jack and poker tournaments, occasional dance lesson, trivia, occasional bingo. Most of the activities were held at the same time or would overlap so we had to choose one. 11. We went on two excursions and one was barely acceptable. There were two enrichment speakers and one was quite interesting about Radio City Music Hall, Bob Fosse, etc. 12. This was a Holiday cruise, so there were a few families on board. Sometimes the kids got rambunctious, but generally it was a quiet seniors cruise, which we liked! We thought the cruise did not accept anyone under 18 years, but we were wrong! 13. Embarkation was a breeze and debarkation took forever. 14. We feel we got our money's worth, but we are not sure we would go again--would have to be the right destination for the right price! We have wanted to try a luxury cruise for sometime. We have cruised about 15x on various lines including Princess, Carnival, Celebrity, MSC and Royal Caribbean. Here are some things to consider if you are used to standard cruise lines and debating on higher cost of luxury. Pros for us are fewer people, no crowds, food is amazing! There are 4 different dining venues and 2 specialty ($40 & $60pp). Regular dining room, Asian style, tapas style and our favorite cooking on a hot lava stone. Food was so good we did not do specialty restaurants. Room service has an extensive menu, available any time and Butler sets up linen table setting. You can get “room service” any where on ship when other venues are not open, like between breakfast and lunch. All inclusive is a plus. We have added drink packages on to previous cruises but it is very nice not having to sign every time you get a drink. Room is stocked with what ever you want, wine, beer and liquor. We asked for vodka and they brought a full size bottle! When we drink our bottle of wine it was replaced with another one. There is a butler and he was great but besides making sure our fridge was stocked I am not sure this was a big difference than a cabin steward. Maybe we just did not ask for much. They will shine your shoes, make dinner reservations... The cabins are fantastic, major pro! We typically do balconies or mini suites. All cabins are suites. Bottom ones are window, then floor to ceiling window, next are balconies. We had a deluxe veranda, booked last minute so not much choice. Lots of room, bathrooms are the best we have had. Great shower with rain head and hand held. The cons (for us) are the ship is reallly quiet, very few activities or entertainment. We do not go to shows in the theater but if you do know you will not find that here. We do enjoy a band playing in a lounge and music pool side. There are limited bars and they are not really set up for socializing around the bar. The main lounge has a small bar off to the side and the couches and chairs. There was a solo guitar player, really not much in terms of lively entertaininment. We would have loved an upscale bar with views to relax at in the evening and chat with other guests, A nice martini bar with mixologists would fit well on this ship. There is not main/grand staircase or center bar/entertainment area like you find on other ships. MSC has very attractive boats and I am fond of the rich wood look in lounges on Princess. Celebrity has some attractive areas as well. I am not a fan of goudi look of Carnival. The decks and public areas are very nice on SilverSpirit but could use a bit more elegance in lounges. Rich woods or maybe crystal lights, just something. The carpeting in hallways needs to be replaced, many stains and dirty looking, the walls are tile and I found them unattractive for a luxury ship. This may seem picky but when paying a much higher price your expectations do go up. The gym is super small, so if you work out you may be disappointed. I did a yoga class that was on a small out door deck, 6 of us barely fit. One day it rained so another fitness class was done inside in weight room area. There were 7 of us and barely had space to move, not to mention how warm it got in that little room. The instructor mentioned the week prior no one showed for a single class so I think 7 was a mass crowd. We were in port until 10pm or later but most shops close early so not a lot of things to do after dark. The casino can only open when at sea so it was open very late and the size was like an arcade. We are not big gamblers so this did not matter to us. You just have to think about what matters to you most. Overall the service, cabin, food and small number of passengers were a major plus! We had a very good vacation but most likely will not book again with SilverSeas. It was too quiet for us and not sure the high price tag was worth it. We would love to find a higher end option with more areas of entertainment and mingling. Read Less

We chose Silversea's Montreal to New York based on the itinerary and reputation of the cruise line. The Silver Spirit is definetly upscale with design and excellant, friendly service throughout the ship. The dining options were plentiful and good , not great , which was a bit disappointing . For a 10 day cruise , even though the dining options were varied, the menus stayed the same . It would have been nice to have a more varied menu. The one thing that was nice was the availability of the all around menu at every venue , which did give some additional variety. The Silversea Cafe on deck 8 was a daily staple , with snacks and lattes from 6:30am ... The itinerary lived up to the expectations, excursions we're well planned , and for the most part small. One negative would be the alloted time in some of the ports. The excursions were that good ,but we felt rushed because of time contraints on getting back to the ship. The tour guides were very good other than one on food tour Quebec City , disorganized and tour not as advertised. The major disappointment for those who like to workout was the small exercise area with limited machines and very small area for classes. This could certainly be an enhancement for SilverSea to consider. One suprise was the quality of the entertainment . A very talented troupe of singers and dances (Voices of Silverseas) were absolutely entertainng with the variety of song and dance that we didn't miss a show . Read Less

Having recently sailed on Regent Explorer and Seabourn Encore, we wanted to return to Silversea and try out the “new” Silver Spirit. We were not disappointed. We had a lovely trip from Montreal to NYC on the Spirit. The weather didn't cooperate, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Michael, but the fall colors were spectacular, even in the rain! The ship itself is lovely and comfortable, and the newly refurbished/created lounges and restaurants are beautifully done. The food was delicious and nicely presented. We prefer a “main dining room”, and took most dinners in Atlantide- beautiful room, super service. The menu never changed, which became quite repetitive by the end of the trip. We enjoyed our dinners at Silver Note with its striking presentations, and the Italian fare at La Terraza as well. Our newly redone cabin was spacious and comfortable as well (the huge sink in the bathroom was an odd and awkward choice). Service throughout our trip was top-notch: gracious, friendly and prompt yet not obsequious. The crew was extremely courteous and helpful to my mother, who used the wheelchair we had rented more than expected on this trip. The stretching and refurbishment of the Spirit are a big success! We had a great time aboard ship and in port. The hiccups came at the beginning and the end of the trip. I'll start at the end. Disembarkation in NYC was a nightmare. For some reason, while we had been right on time up to our berth in Midtown, something happened which necessitated the ship to be turned around before docking, resulting in a 90 minute delay. Needless to say, the crowd gathered in Dolce Vita was restless, and the lack of information didn't help the situation. When we did make our way off the ship to claim our luggage, there was no personnel to assist as it was all hands on deck to just get the bags off the ship. With my mother in a wheelchair, I finally found a cart and we made our way to the buses to the airport, to find total chaos. It was the blind leading the blind, and the "Silversea" personnel directing traffic were, forgive the pun, at sea...not good when people are trying to make connections across town. We eventually made our way onto the bus, and did make our flight. I'm sure others weren't as lucky. I heard a lot of very negative comments about the way the disembarkation was handled, which put a damper on an otherwise great vacation. Our trip also began with some chaos. We opted for the pre-cruise night at the InterContinental. The fire alarm and subsequent evacuation of the hotel were NOT part of the package. The activity was handled very poorly, and I’ve expressed my concerns to both the hotel and Silversea. I know that Silversea doesn't control what the hotel does, but they need to know what's going on in the properties they use. May you never have a similar experience! Happy sailing! Read Less

We took this cruise because of the time. The ship was great! The cabin was wonderful! The Butler was special! Most of the meals were wonderful. Our dinners were really made wonderful because of Karolina, the head wine steward. She was a delight! Breakfast was not up to par. The service at breakfast was VERY slow! Painfully SLOW! The shore excursions were lacking! It appeared that the ship wasn't aware of how poor some of the excursions were. The walking tour at Trois Riveres was so bad that most people left the tour before it was 1/2 done. The tour at Syndey, walking tour, was also way below par! Again, many of us left the tour & went on our own. The gift shop was the worst I have ever seen on a ship. (This is our 8th cruise). The gems were (some) lovely but the prices were extremely inflated. This is the first time we haven't purchased something from a ship gift shop. It lacked things were that would be needed on a trip, I.E. a hat, a sweatshirt, a poncho for the rain, a scarf, etc. Would we go again? Never on this itinerary! Never to stop in Syndey, Canada. Why do you stop there? There is absolutely NOTHING worth seeing or doing in Sydney! When we disembarked in Montreal it was a free for all! VERY UNORGANIZED. It was cold, rainy and windy. Some of us were left to fend for ourselves in the elements. We finally found someone to help with our luggage & paid him for his help. It was much appreciated. We took the tour of Montreal, again, not up to the Silverseas standards. When we arrived at the Montreal airport it was once again a free for all. Very disappointing. On another note, the hotel in New York, The Parker is also below the expected standard for Silverseas! Read Less

Embarkation from NYC was fabulous. We arrived in the city a few days early and enjoyed our time there. The ship is clean, well maintained, and attractive. Our cabin was the same. Roshan and Aaron were fantastic at their duties, always friendly and happy to comply with our requests. We enjoyed most of the dining rooms although we did not go to LaDame because of the upcharge. I can't praise the cruise director, Jimmy, enough. His sense of humor and accessible demeanor made the trip very enjoyable. (I still can't get over the trivial pursuit answer of "The Bodyguard.') As for entertainment, I'd have to say I enjoyed the guitarist most of all. His music selections were ideal and his talent shone with each performance. The other entertainers were quite fun, talented, and friendly. I think my one negative comment would be the need to choreograph the shows more professionally. Now, to the ports. I feel that the Trois Rivieres port could have been omitted and more time spent in Quebec City. The rest of the ports each offered sights and information that were beneficial and enjoyable. As for the shore excursions, the tour guides were fabulous. Each had wonderful senses of humor and their enthusiasm for their home towns was quite apparent and much appreciated. We did not travel with children. Actually, we saw no children on the ship. Of course, it occurred after the start of school. I would return to Quebec City; in fact, we did just that after we disembarked. As for the other ports, none stand out as places to return. That being said, keep in mind that we had already been to Newport and Boston more than once. All in all, we had a fantastic trip. Read Less

Enjoyed the whole Silversea experience. But they MUST attend to the internet issue. Cabin was excellent so was service. Menu not changed very often which was disappointing. Ship had unexplained juddering at speeds above about 15 knots. No relationship with sea conditions. Maybe caused by the recent lengthening. Was a bit unpleasant at times. Crew were almost all very obliging and cheerful. I would put our experience on Silver Spirit a little below Crystal. The entertainment was not as good as expected. The amplification of singers and instrumentalists was way over the top and spoiled the effect of good musicians. Not everyone is as deaf as the amplification suggested. These various negatives have prevented me from giving our cruise a top rating. By far the most serious matter was the appalling internet service. We hope to sail on Silversea again but would not do so unless this problem is fixed. Read Less

Overall we had a lovely vacation and enjoyed the ports of call...We also met some wonderful people to spend time with...Suite upgrade we paid for was well worth it and were very happy with the room layout...Our butler and his assistant very helpful...Was expecting above and beyond when it came to quality of food but not the case...On 3 separate occasions I ordered filet mignon at various restaurants to be served medium rare and all 3 times it was overcooked...A filet mignon is supposed to be a THICK cut and they basically cut it in half lengthwise therefore it requires quicker cooking time and they couldn't achieve it, even at the difficult to get into La Dame restaurant...Thus in my opinion, (additional paid for restaurants) good, not great and certainly not worth paying for...Something should have been offered in consideration but was not even offered a glass of wine...Best restaurant on board by far was La Terrazza...Quality of food and service exceptional and maitre de and waiters/waitresses always on hand...Highly suggest breakfast there as well...We ate at all the restaurants and placed Atlantide in second but our group of friends seemed to always settle at La Terrazza due to the menu and again, quality of food...The Grill restaurant where you cook your own fish and steak is quite silly...They bring sides that get cold and you cook your main entree on a stone...Loved all the ports we visited...The Peterhof Estate in St. Petersburg was my favorite and enjoyed visiting Copenhagen and Skagen Denmark as well...Dining in both of these ports was fabulous...Local fresh fish available...The Russian ballet was a disappointment as it was NOT what was expected...Felt like we had attended a high school or slightly better show...I was hoping this was going to be one of the highlights for me as a dancer...And I had not even mentioned my disappointment to anyone who attended until others stated their feelings about it...Wine/alcohol is included but can certainly use some upgrades!...Fitness area a mess...Have to leave doors open to outside because there is no air in the rooms...They are well aware of the situation and don't seem to care...This is supposed to be a 5 star cruise!...Ship size is perfect with 600 appx. passengers...Would go again but hope my input provides additional food for thought for Silversea management to review. We were expecting a lot from this cruise based on ratings and friends and travel agent recommendations. We previously cruised 5 times on Oceania, so can't help but to compare. First the positives, the service at the bar and restaurants from waiters were exceptional, staff seemed happy, relaxed, efficient and everywhere. The quality of wine and hard liquor were top class. If you do not like the wine they were serving, you just tell sommelier what you like and they will bring you a bottle that closely describes your taste. The cigar lounge was wonderful, an excellent VSOP cognac served there as well as anything you want. This part of the cruise was better than Oceania as well as a little bigger cabins, however a little dated we thought. The disappointments were numerous, first the services of a butler and a room stewart. I would call them inconsistent at best. The room stewart was changed in the middle of the cruise and the butler although always available, did not do things fast. He would relay our requests to stewart, things did not get done or we had to remind it 2 or 3 times. A simple thing as keeping water glasses in the room was problematic, one day they were there and another day they disappeared. I understand that this problem was with our cabin as other people were raving about their butler and cabin stewart. The ship itself was very nice, but compared to Oceania, not as grand. The art decorating the walls was not as nice and there were no 2 story foyer and staircases that are picture worthy. Food is definitely less impressive than Oceania. All restaurants, including the dining rooms with no reservations required had a menu that would not change, so the same thing was served day after day, after day. Oceania had a new menu at Grand dining room every day and only specialty restaurants had it the same. We also thought the the restaurants themselves were less impressive than Oceania in terms of decor and chic. So to summarize the food was not bad, just was not as good. When during the mid cruise review I mentioned that our dinner at LaDame was 3 hours long, which was a little eccessive, I got a phone call from a food and beverage manager who clearly did not give a dumb and also was approached by all restaurants manager who was a little better. Both said they will talk to the La Dame manager. The better way would have been to invite us there again to make sure that we were satisfied. Other guests did not experience such long waits, so this issue was isolated to our particular day, 2 day of a cruise. Gym and saunas were a total disappointment, small, dated and unisex. There were no lounges to relax between the steam room and a shower, in fact no lockers and hardly a place to hang a robe. This is not to say that we will not travel on Silversea again, but it is simply a matter of value, given the same, we would go back to Oceania. Read Less

The itinerary and the suite determined our choice criteria. We were disappointed in the food. While it was incredibly presented. The quality and portion size were very average or just par. The service everywhere was fantastic, as was everything but the food. They would have receptions where the alcohol was plentiful but not serve food or you would see a few trays get passed that were consumed well before they got to you. It seemed stingy and surprising given we have only been on one other luxury cruise and never experienced the food being so guarded and ordinary. The spa staff were incredibly, Had one of the best massages ever. The fitness instructor was average but certainly good enough for a cruise. Entertainment was very good but didn't start until 10 pm which after a full day sightseeing was too late so consequently we only went to 1 show. It was excellent though. Read Less

First time sailing Silver Seas. (Silver Spirit) It lived up to its billing. Almost everything was right, and when it wasn't it was appropriately addressed. Entertainment and Activities abord the ship were more (high quality talent) than anticipated. The cabins were spacious. Larger than expected. Attentive butler service and cleaning were almost "too much" but we got used to it. Felt there was way too much emphasis on premium alcohol (cruise wide) and a few fellow passengers got more "into the spirit(s)" than they might have if they were paying a la carte, but I suppose that is what you get when you are all inclusive. The "special" restaurants had such limited availability we were unable to book tables.A disappointment. Didn't realize how quickly you had to reserve (we waited two weeks after reservations opened) Food was excellent considering its such a large production The internet (and I upgraded to premium) was extremely cumbersome and slow. This was a surprising problem. I have had better service on airplanes! The Baltic itineraries/excursions (Copenhagen, Visby and Tallinn were uninspired). It seemed more like a "lead up" to St Petersburg. Guides were processional and logistics were smooth. Large complaint was on return flights. Took advantage of the Business Class upgrade. I should have been more insistint about direct flights home (Iceland Air stops in Reykjavik and doesn't have lie flat seats in business class.) Would have happily paid more and ended the cruise with more comfort. Read Less

We wanted a short cruise that would allow us to visit St. Petersburg at some length, and allow us to spend significant land time in the two most interesting Scandinavian cities, Stockholm and Copenhagen. This cruise was for 7 nights, with three of them in St. Pete. And, it departed from Stockholm and disembarked in Copenhagen. Because we are quite old, and it is painful for us to keep up with group tours, we ordered private cars through the Silversea program for that. As well, we wanted a pretty small ship. With just over 600 passages the Silver Spirit was, compared with other ocean-going cruise ships a pretty small one. Some of this was probably worth it - 8 hours in new Mercedes with driver and also good guide in St. Pete for $500. We took that for each of our three days in Russia. Some of it was a rip-off, but we were offered no other viable option, for the half-day the ship was in Finland. Just 4 hours in in new Mercedes with driver and also good guide in Helsinki for fully $700 - FOUR hours for Seven Hundred Dollars. For our Five times in ports, including a half-day in Tallin, Estonia, we had to spend an additional $2700. Given a good discount by Silversea, we paid extra to fly First Class, or Business Class, whatever the top class is called for the major carriers - about $1400 extra for each of us. That would have been Fine, EXCEPT that we had no choice as to the timing of our flights. When flying to Europe before, we we have done over 50 times, we never took a flighst that departed earlier than 9 pm, and usually significantly later, allowing for a goodly number of hours ASLEEP on the plain. This flight left just after 5 PM, allowing us to sleep for only an hour or, at most, two. Our first two days in Stockholm were compromised by this bad mandatory timing. If we ever go on Silversea again, we will NOT "take advantage" of their air programs. Read Less

We have become rather unhappy with Crystal Cruises for a variety of reasons so we have been searching for their replacement. SilverSea's greatest advantage over Crystal would be in the size of their all-suite accommodations. We found our suite to be impeccably clean, well maintained, stylish, and equipped with a wonderfully cheerful and helpful butler. The weakest element in a comparison to Crystal is the entertainment. It is constrained by the physical size & layout of the stage. The shows were rather lackluster so we spent our free evenings enjoying the pianist (Alex) and guitarist/singer (Angela) in the Dolce Vita lounge. While food quality is generally very good to excellent, we had service issues at two venues. At the poolside Grill, it was very obvious that the staff was more concerned with closing on time than in taking care of guests, even though we were seated 45 mins ahead of closing. The main dining room, Atlantide, was our biggest disappointment for dinner. It took more than two hours for our party of four to be served, and one of the two veal entrees was undercooked. Going forward, Atlantide was relegated to breakfast or lunch only. Our favorite dining venue quickly became IndoChine once I tasted their Short Ribs. My wife loved the Pho soup so much that she had it for the three days consecutive days. I found it amusing that the Asian restaurant's Osso Buco was, IMO, superior to that of the Italian La Terrazza. We found La Terrazza best for lunch due to its large buffet offering. La Dame was simply exquisite on every level. Well worth the extra charge. The same applies equally to Seishin Restaurant, who provided a perfect Creme Brulee. The other highlight not to be missed is their Spider Crab appetizer. The greatest hidden treasure we discovered has to be the Arts Cafe. The food is art for both the eyes and the palate. Change the name to Arts & Eats!! Compared to dining on Crystal, SilverSea is close, but not the clear winner. Efficiency: SilverSea could benefit from an efficiency consultant. As an example, ship ID cards should have been designed for machine scanning/contact scanning without having to remove them from the SilverSea card case. Summary: this jury is still out on declaring the winner. We are hoping that our next SilverSea cruise (Muse Feb 2019) will settle the argument. Read Less

We were the first cruise passengers on after the big stretch! This cruise was Rome to Barcelona, taking in Portofino, Cannes, Porto Vechio, Corsica,Livorno, and Marseille We checked in as expected, at about 2pm suites would usually be ready but were not, finishing touches being made so got in about 3.30pm Nice suite no. 757 some problems, the safe did not work or TV or phone. Adjoining door to next suite was unlocked. Didn't see butler till late, explained problems Unlike previous cruises with Silversea- no champagne on ice on arrival. Butler was very pleasant when we met him properly, he stocked our fridge with our choice of wine. As we explored the ship work was still going on to finish the Arts Cafe and the Silver Note restaurant. They were complete the next day. Booked the premium restaurant La Dame, service was very slow. I complained as you pay extra for this meal and it certainly was not up to Silversea standards. They did however waive the surcharge. Having said all this the ship is beautiful, they maybe needed a couple more days to finish everything, we enjoyed the experience and would sail with them again. Read Less

We have sailed with you for 21 consecutive years. We have always chosen Silversea because of the quality of both staff, the ships themselves and the crew. However, this is the first year that my husband and I have noticed there was a lack of staff people, not only in the cabins, although our butler was very nice (ALBERT), but in the dining areas as well. I can understand cost cutting to make a profit, but when the quality is sacrificed, I think you begin to have faithful passengers who become dissatisfied. That being said, we have rebooked another trip for next year, but might in the future, consider another line. Another unfortunate event was that your pre cruise safari was fully booked so we did a private safari which was really the highlight of the trip for us. As for the visual, I understand that the SPIRIT was due to go into dry dock to get a bit of refurbishing, shortly after we departed, so I can excuse the "tired" look to the ship. We have a special place in our hearts for Silversea and hopefully will continue to do so. Read Less

From past experience with Silversea and this was a new itinerary for us. Positives were the usual Silversea attention and courtesy. Food not quite as good as in previous cruises. On shore excursions disappointing excessively lengthy. Morning excursions sometimes returned to ship too late for lunch except on the pool deck where it was sometimes too cold to ne outside. However deck service was excellent as was service at other restaurants. Transfer from disembarkation to airport in Fiumicino left us with over four hours to wait for flight. Bus dropped us up at far end of terminal three and we had a long walk with luggage back to terminal one, when the driver could have dropped us off at terminal one which we drove right by. We had very long walk to the gate. Airport staff refused to help us. Silversea should tell passengers that there could be a long walk to gate and offer to provide transportation. Breakfast was always prepared too early with the result it was either cold or the butler had to wake us up too early. Read Less

went on one last year to Alaska and loved it My husband spoiled us by getting the owner's suite which was really luxurious. However, we were extremely disappointed in how few shows the crew of six performed - why were there two movie nights and two done by Mr. Moss - one of his would have been more than enough. There must be a better system in getting reservations for La Dame - people should be charged the per person fee if they don't cancel by noon that day - it was a shame that there were empty tables both times that we were there but the food was outstanding. Food was only mediocre in the dining room; far better in La Traviata. The excursion for La Hambre needs to be addressed in order to not have so many people on the waiting list. I also don't understand how a biking tour done thru you could be so much more money than going thru Viator. Read Less

We chose this cruise because Silver Sea is one of several cruise 5-star luxury cruise lines and we liked the itinerary (and our friends asked us to join them). While the cruise was very good overall, we felt that some of the "rules" were rigid and the staff, while anxious to please, often wasn't well trained. On several occasions, we were told that the specialty dining room was sold out. We showed up anyhow and the room was always half empty! A pity for the staff that had to prepare the meals. Apparently, there were "no shows." While I don't believe in extra charges, I think there should have been a charge if someone confirmed a reservation and then didn't show, denying it to someone else. There wasn't a good explanation of the wi-fi scheme and maybe it should have been included in the "all-inclusive" rate. Our one free hour ran out because we weren't told that we had to log out. At the end of the cruise, there was a charge for wi-fi but it couldn't be removed, because the computers were closed. That should have been the time when the bills should have been resolved. There seemed to be a lot of excuses like that. The ship's common areas were a little bit dated. We learned that it is going in for a retrofit in March. I guess it is common on cruises but there was always someone trying to sell you something: art, shoe inserts, you name it. The excursions were priced about 50-75% above what I was able to arrange on my own (I guess that's typical). Read Less

We found the restaurants to be pretty good. Not a very good experience at Le Champagne. Several of the dishes had been sitting for awhile with mushroom soup being lumpy. We had to stir the soup to eat it. It should be better. Great wine selection and nice size Foie Gras. We found the Italian restaurant and the main dining room to our liking. We had two reservations in both Le Champagne and the Japanese. Cancelled the second reservation in both. If we had to pick a weak spot for the overall experience, it would be the staff. Slow food service at the pool. Our room was not clean when we checked in. Trash under the bed with dust bunnies, sticky residue on counter top and on our phone. After that was addressed we had no problems, room was kept clean. Our butler was very nice, but it took two days before our bar was stocked. Our travel partners across the hallway got their bar stocked on day one. The reception was unable to answer simple questions regarding disembarkation. We got off the ship in Venice, at a dock far away from the main port terminal. Reception had no idea how to arrange private taxi transfer to our hotel. We had not purchased transfer thru SilverSea what we felt was completely overpriced private boat taxi to our hotel. The fact that the reception did not know the process is unacceptable. It turned out to be very simple. Just pick up your bags and walk 100 yards to the Taxi dispatcher! We had prepaid for the transfer directly with Venicelink and had to wait about 30min for the boat. No big deal. Spa was nice, but again very expensive. Workout facilities, about the size of a tiny hotel room, basic. Found it annoying that all of the pools and every hot tub on the ship where drained and closed the morning before we got off the boat. None of the people we talked to had heard of this being scheduled. Pools and hot tubs are a major part of the facilities on a ship and loosing all of them for 1 of 7 days we felt ripped off. We had very low expectations of the on board entertainment and after attending one event that was confirmed. No big deal. Did not partake in any of the shore excursions as we booked our own for 1/2 the price on-line. Used tenders to reach two of the ports, very well run, never waited at all. Well done! Buffet for both breakfast and lunch where outstanding. Decent wines served everywhere. Security on board and at shore was good. We felt safe and secure. Read Less

Cruise line. We have sailed with Silversea 5 times. This last cruise service and food has gone down hill. The buffet breakfast service was poor. The Grill food was poor. The Le Champagne restaurant was excellent as well as the Italian restaurant for dinner. The highlight of the service was the room butler. He was very attentive and efficient with a good personality. The onboard entertainment was extremely poor. The cruise director served as the main entertainment ( kind of mom and pop) and the rest of the entertainers were poor. The room was well kept and serviced and modern and clean. The ship is well kept and clean. The exercise facility is small and limited. Spa facilities are over the top expensive. The ports of call were ok. Kudusadasi was the best port of call. Mikanos was a bit of a disappointment. The downtown area is nice but that's all. Read Less

Never been near the Adriatic or the Balkan countries, thought this as a way to touch on some of them. The cabin was excellent as well as the cabin service. Dining for the most part was very good but the upscale venues left a bit to be desired. The dress code was not uniformly enforced, seemed that some guests were allowed to ignore. The shore excursions were poor and in general a waste of time and money. I would recommend arranging one's own tours or sight seeing. One of the stops was Santorini, could not see what the draw is, needs a good going over, looked tired. The 4 ports we stopped at (Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro) were exceptionally clean and people very friendly, I would certainly visit ant of them again particularly Kotor in Montenegro, breathtaking vistas. I would say this is not a cruise for children, very adult in structure. I emphasize the service was beyond reproach by the cabin attendants. Read Less

Myself and two girlfriends chose this cruise as it had a list of destinations that other cruise lines do not do ... especially being able to go to Kusadasi, Turkey and take a trip to Ephesus. The Spirit also has one of the largest stateroom verandas which can accomodate 3 adults. We were not over cramped, the bathroom large , a bathtub a bonus. I normally travel with Oceania and found that Silversea is comparable. We found the staff very good, our butler Alex was wonderful, we enjoyed being able to have all the tips and liquor included. Being Canadian and our dollar not doing well the price was good . We opted out of their airfare program as we could not fly economy and their upgrade to business class was out of this world. Was not aware of the ballet at time of booking, and not being big ballet fans, we did attend one performance but would not be interested in doing another one. the stage is too small for such performances. Food was good, wish they offered a couple of more restaurants that we did not have to pay extra for. we did take 3 of their shore excursions and found that they were a fair price, but we booked a lot of private ones ( not the private ones offered by the ship) but ones we searched out on the internet and made arrangements ourselves. We found them to be so much better. as we had a car and driver to ourselves and able to maneuver the sights so much easier. Read Less

The ship is really nice. Food was good. Service was very good. We really enjoyed the smaller ship with fewer guests. No crowds, no lines and no drunk rowdy party animals made for a very enjoyable and relaxing on-board experience. The cabin butler was exceptional. Though food was good, you are limited on your dining experience unless you "make reservations" for other restaurants and least 6+ moths in advance. Out of nine nights we were able to get reservations (other than main dining area) for only one night - and we tried 4 months prior to the cruise. Not sure about entertainment, the main show didn't start until 10:00 p.m. By then we were exhausted and went to be to try and sleep (see cabin review). Our daily shore excursions were very good! Some of the best we have ever had. Also, don't let the crews line book your airline tickets. Or, if you do, double check all flight times and connections, then make changes. We had to actually run through two airports in order to make connecting flights. The gate was about to close when we reached one and if the other flight had not been delayed, we would have missed that flight. We like the luxury cruise experience and will probably look at the other luxury lines going forward. Read Less

This was our 5th cruise with Silver Sea (in 5 years). Our second time on Spirit. The best things about this cruise were the condition and cleanliness of the cabins, our butler and room attendant were so accommodating, friendly and professional and the Captain letting us stay longer in Elba to experience the holiday's firework display! The Elba experience really was the highlight of the cruise! As far as the dining experience, the wine selection was great as usual. Dining in the Main Restaurant, Seishin, Le Champagne, Stars, La Terrazza and in-suite dining were excellent. Dinner at the Pool Grill was poor and really needs to be addressed. The steaks and shrimp were very disappointing. Nothing impressive! The shore excursions in Palma, Alghero, Elba and Florence were good to excellent. The local tour guides can make or break the tour experience. I think evaluations by customers should be completed and submitted after every tour to provide Silver Sea with feedback. We did have a "tainted" water event, where the water running from the bathroom sink and in the toilet were discolored. We reported the situation and upon return from our excursion, a note was posted on everyone's door about what happened and what was done to correct. It would've been nice if someone personally came by and spoke to us about it. Our Butler checked in with us, but to us, it should've been someone in charge. For whatever reason, we feel that our experiences on the smaller ships (Wind and Whisper) were much better and really exemplified luxury cruising. It felt cozier, friendlier and the quality of service and food was so much better on the smaller ships. We will take this into consideration when planning our next cruise on Silver Sea. Read Less
