A wonderful cruise to some challenging places
"There is no doubt that sailing on a luxury ship like Silver Shadow through Melanesia, Micronesia and the Philippines can't get any better and Silversea did an excellent job choreographing the whole process. Our cabin was more than adequate for twenty days and I really don't see any reason to spend more just for better location unless ship motion is a concern...."Read More

We chose this cruise primarily for the itiniary and except for the New Zealand ports (Auckland and Bay of Islands) everything was new to us. There is no doubt that sailing on a luxury ship like Silver Shadow through Melanesia, Micronesia and the Philippines can't get any better and Silversea did an excellent job choreographing the whole process. This was our first Silversea experience as we've ...

Never again with Silversea

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Silver Shadow

We wanted to visit New Zealand and Australia at this time of the year and had heard good things about Silversea. If the Silver Shadow is an example of the Silversea cruise line, we will never travel on a Silversea ship again. The ship is very old and most definitely not the luxurious ship it's promoted, the restaurant staff was poorly trained and no one seemed to be supervising the staff, the ...

Poor beginning with some issues and late attempts to resolve issues

chose the cruise for silver sea reputation and ports of call. too many sea days, some ports of call were a total waste of time. could have stayed longer in main ports, bali and perth. perhaps cost of ports was too high to remain there. would not recommend this ship or ports of call to anyone. excursion director had poor attitude and not professional. restaurants excluding pool area ...

Lovely Cruise - in the main

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Silver Shadow

We chose this cruise for the itinerary - Auckland NZ to Sydney AUS - and over Christmas/New Year's holidays. We've done about 50 cruises in the last 20 years on a number of lines. Most recently we took three cruises on Crystal but began to notice things slipping as they seem to have lost sight of their core cruise business as they have expanded. So we were eager to see what Silversea had to ...

The culture of this ship does not live up to its rating

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, rating of cruise line and were told the ship had been renovated the year before. We were hugely disappointed. The Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly, including the stops. That's where the good news ends. The staff on the ship were not well trained. The servers had these tablets they took orders on and they had pictures of all the cruisers ...

We were on two legs of the cruise that started at the date listed in Auckland and completed in Singapore on 01/21/2018. We wanted to see part of Australia. It's so large you have to go at least two to three times. We added New Zealand to the itinerary because of travel costs, flights in business class are so high at that duration and distance. We're glad we added New Zealand. The shore ...

Silversea Still Has it

A number of recent review on Cruise Critic portray the Silver Shadow as an aging ship with substandard service and cuisine. We found the opposite. This was our tenth cuise on Silversea, and we were totally happy with the experience, We saw no evidence of an aging ship needing refubishment, service was impeccable, food in all of the dining areas was excellent (one could question whether La Dame was ...

Great service and food but no sparkle that makes it a 6 star shop

The unusual itinerary was the main reason for selecting this cruise. It met my expectation. The service by the crew and staff is outstanding but the ship's special touches that make one return to Silver Sea are missing. Having traveled with Silver Sea since 1998 (more than 500 days) I find that the ship(s) have become very lack luster. Gone are the tasty after dinner candies and cookies. The ...

Don't fall for the luxury scam

Review for a Asia Cruise on Silver Shadow

Luxury is the most abused word used by cruise companies; it is an attempt to mislead consumers. Silversea plays a con game because it is, based on my recent experience, very far from being a true luxury cruise line such as Seabourn, Regent or Azamara. The Silver Shadow should have received a major renovation and refurbishment some years ago. Every other passenger on our cruise who had previous ...

Standards Have dropped - a disappointing cruise

Review for a Asia Cruise on Silver Shadow

We chose this cruise based on past experiences with Silversea but also because the timing happened to fit perfectly with our desire to take time out. This cruise was our fourth with Silversea after 2 in the Mediterranean in 2012, and one in 2016 also on Silver Shadow in Asia, This voyage provided several disappointments and we felt a lowering of standards. We boarded the ship in Singapore, ...
