We chose this cruise to end our first trip to China. Couple late 60s. We had 17 days on land and sightseeing prior to boarding in Shanghai. Perfect relaxing finish. The terminal was 30 min from the Bund area central Shanghai. Taxi about 20aud. Train was avail with 5 min transfers from station to ship provided. We arrived at our designated time with limited ques. Very quick easy boarding. We ...

This cruise was put on offer as all inclusive and at an acceptable price, and it was visiting Asia. We found that the boarding setup, the staff, the cabin, the tours, the food and the ship in general was what one would expect. We were advised that the ship was setup for the Chinese and we accepted that part of the cruise. We were pleased that there were also many Australians on board. We ...

Low quality and upselling

Spent a week on Mariner. Upselling began the minute I got on with pressure to buy drinks package, tours, internet, cheap clothes and jewellery. The main 'atrium' is a poor excuse for up selling of just about anything except anything of worth. Compared to eny other ship I've been on - HAL, P and O, Cunard etc - this ship is garish and cheap. The library is no more than a small corner with the ...

Great ship and itinerary but poor food and drinks service.

We chose this cruise because of its itinerary as we had never been to asia. Embarkation in Shanghai was very slow at least 2 and a half hours once on the ship all seemed great. First night in main restaurant was shockingly slow took an hour and a quarter to get our drinks and still waiting for starters. We had a table by the main service area absolutely freezing second night moved to another ...

This cruise was booked around this time last year whilst aboard The Splendour of the Sea in The Med. We were advised at the time that this was one of the few English language cruises sailing in this region so we decided to book it. Overall we had a great holiday and the staff/ crew were amazing. However, the ship itself felt neglected. In the Junior Suite we had the curtains were ...

Old ship bad services old entertainments Manager and very poor shows

I choose the cruise as I thought it would be a trip of a lifetime. How wrong unfortunately the Mariner of the Sea is old and it looked. The entertainments Manager was old and passed it putting on really bad performances in the evening that most people each night walked out of. There were quiz nights but you couldn't understand the quiz masters who needed help with each question as they couldn't ...

Not up to the standard expected from RCI this time!

Certainly not on par with other RCI ships we have sailed on. Quality and choice of food was below standard. Entertainment was poor. Sea days were boring...not the usual choice of activities available; no shuffleboard type activities on offer at all. Time tabling of events was not favourable for the second sitting guests. Bar staff need training as there was a lot of "queue jumping". The choice of ...

Still not sure about blue ocean cruising

We were travelling through China and thought it would be interesting to travel home via a blue ocean cruise so we picked the 10 night Shanghai to Singapore cruise with Royal Carribean. We'd cruised before but not on such a large ship with so many people - 3100 on this cruise. Embarkation at Shanghai was chaotic, long and tedious but we got through it fairly painlessly. Once on board we did ...

I got a bit freaked out about Visa Stuff in the run up, wondering if I should have applied for anything but it was all fine (I have an Irish passport and my wife and son have GB ones). We had seen some reports of the cruise food and entertainment being aimed towards a Chinese audience but I didn't agree with that. I think the food however was just OK - did the formal dining on a couple of nights ...
