We flew into Shanghai and were driven straight to the cruise port (previously arranged with 'China highlights' - who were excellent). We then had to stand in queues for nearly three hours to board the ship, so many processes. Normally its between 30 minutes and an hour, not so for this cruise, even though we are Emerald members and had booked a Junior suite. Once on board the ship itself is ...
Thought it would be Cool to see China and Japan But between Chinese and Japanese immigration and a crappy cuise director and staff on quantum this vacation sucked, I will say after 15 cruises on RCCL this one really disappointed.
First we traveled to Shanghai from Chicago which went great, Once we got into China Immigration took about an hour using the 144 hr transit Visa, we then arrived at ...
We were excited to be on the Quantum, our biggest and newest RC cruise yet, but had read about the culturally immersive experience on board and were prepared to face unending crowds, crazy elevator situations, and pushy behavior. I am happy to report that the ship is stunningly beautiful, the crew are extremely professional, and the cross-cultural experience was a great learning opportunity. ...
My husband and I chose this cruise as we really wanted to relax on a cruise and enjoy the sights of Japan. What we got was an overcrowded cruise which was geared towards the Chinese market, the trips off the boat were rushed and we saw very little of Japan.
Trying to find a seat in the always busy Windjammer restaurant was a challenge, our food was often cold by the time we got to sit down. ...
Background Information
My friend and I were wanting to get away from Sydney and as we've enjoyed our previous cruises to the South Pacific, another cruise was always going to be the best option. However, rather than picking one that leaves from our home port we decided on this RCI cruise from Shanghai to Japan and back for a different kind of experience. We book-ended the cruise with a night ...
This is a very different cruising experience. There were 4000+ Mainland Chinese and 500 non Chinese which created a completely different vibe on the ship.
We had a taxi from our downtown hotel, 45 minutes, 260 yuan on the meter. We were dropped by the check in area, handed in our luggage which we had already tagged and were in our cabin within an hour of being dropped off.
Cabin was ...
Visiting Shanghai for the F1 Grand Prix and this was my first ever cruise on any ship. I have to say that this ship and cruise is most definitely aimed at Chinese. If you are a European like me, it’s a real eye opener. There are over 1 billion Chinese that have money to spend and Royal Caribbean wants to exploit that market, it’s good business sense.
Be prepared for rudeness, queue jumping and ...
My family of 4 chose this cruise mainly because we wanted to visit Japan, next thing was because we wanted to experience a 5 star cruise.
Embarkation at Baoshan port, Shanghai was a true nightmare. It took us nearly 3 hours to get on the ship. Chinese shore staff didn't speak English or pay attention to who we were. Since we were also Asians, they kept pointing us to the long queue line of ...
Either RCI’s standards have dropped or they chose to just totally drop the ball on this cruise. This cruise is geared for locals, so if you're not one, avoid this cruise.
EMBARKATION: Shanghai’s terminal is far from the city center. The drop off point was very far from the terminal. I understand these are under the port jurisdiction not RCI, but we did see vehicles entering the area. ...
Got a cheap deal and booked quickly - a bit of a last minute plan. I had a good time but I wish I had read more reviews before deciding on this cruise!
I travelled with my partner and we have been on one RCI cruise previously (7 days out of Venice) which we very much enjoyed. This time we had 2 days beforehand and 3 days afterwards in Shanghai - we spent a lot of time in museums, up towers ...
