We booked a 50 day cruise with Cunard Queen Mary 2 primarily to visit Petra, Rome plus about 20 other countries. The cruise departed Feb 23 from Shanghai to April 14 in South Hampton. While boarding in Shanghai, I was bumped by a luggage handler and my knee was scratched. The scratch became infected by Feb 27 and I had to take antibiotics for the whole cruise, so we never saw any of the sights ...
This past January we went on an Asian Cruise with Princess Cruises. We were to board our cruise in Shanghai, reporting to board our cruise beginning at 12:00PM, Jan. 5fth. Then, the night before, I received an e-mail indicating the ship was late arriving on port and we should report beginning at 4:00PM. As we arrived at the terminal, our taxi driver noted the main gate was closed and a worker was ...
Having booked what I thought would be the trip of a lifetime I have been left very dissapionted.Embarkation was a joke!3 hours queing in high 20 degree temperatures with no information or as much as a glass of water because ncl had not informed passengers of the need for 2 passport photo copies.Booking in was then not completed properly with no credit card details taken, only to receive a rude ...
Spent a week on Mariner. Upselling began the minute I got on with pressure to buy drinks package, tours, internet, cheap clothes and jewellery. The main 'atrium' is a poor excuse for up selling of just about anything except anything of worth. Compared to eny other ship I've been on - HAL, P and O, Cunard etc - this ship is garish and cheap. The library is no more than a small corner with the ...
After cruising for many years this has to go down as the worst cruise we have ever been on. It was so bad that it has actually put us off cruising for the foreseeable future.
Meals terrible, suite tired and was a joke been more comfortable on an oil rig. Met some lovely people that without, this would have been a 100% bad experience.
The noise in the suite from pipework banging and running ...
Pre cruise information was dreadful, when I enquired about whether I need a Chinese visa for 2 days in Shanghai prior to joining the ship I was told that the 144 transit visa was not applicable to my trip. I purchased 2 visas at a cost of £340 , when I arrived at Shanghai airport I waited whist the other cruise passengers went to the 144 hours transit desk to obtain free visas, these passengers ...
I choose the cruise as I thought it would be a trip of a lifetime. How wrong unfortunately the Mariner of the Sea is old and it looked. The entertainments Manager was old and passed it putting on really bad performances in the evening that most people each night walked out of. There were quiz nights but you couldn't understand the quiz masters who needed help with each question as they couldn't ...
Where do I start!
We were a group of experienced and first time cruisers. Like another reviewer, those of us who had previously cruised kept trying to tell our first time cruiser friend that this is defiantly not the norm! I don't think it worked as we were told it would be the very last time they ever went on a cruise!
The only (and I do stress only) good part of the whole cruise was the ...
This was my first Royal Caribbean cruise and I was disappointed for the following reasons:
- embarkation in Shanghai was chaotic - it was difficult to find staff who knew which forms we had to complete and where the luggage should be left.
- once on the ship, there was no one around to point us in the direction of the dining areas or our cabin.
- the Windjammer (buffet dining area) was very ...
Let's start with the embarkation in Shanghai: it took 2 hours and with this I rest my case on this subject.
Cabins: average, nothing special.
Food: the smell in Windjammer was awful and the food is of poor quality. There is plenty of choice, but if you have a little higher standard, pretty much nothing to choose from. We had dinner on deck 5, I can't remember the name of the restaurant, and the ...
