I've written another review of our experience on the Volendam from Vancouver to Skagway Alaska. My in-laws chose to go on this cruise to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary and was my first cruise.
Made the mistake of buying their soda package for about $70. The Dining Rooms have one specific person (the Wine Steward) for the zone you sit in and you can only place your soda order with that person.

This was our second Alaskan cruise and Alaska did not let us down. The weather was great -83 degrees in Haines! But such a relief from Texas heat. Plus, the air was so clean and fresh. My sister and I were about the average age of passengers and there were few young people or kids.

The stateroom had a small we could not get rid off...finally found mold on shower curtain. Mirrors in staterooms were old and needed replacing. Dirt in corners remained throughout cruise. Free drinks with the HAL means a poor choice of low quality wines with excellent food. This is not a good combination. Even with a group of 7 guests ( 7 x $ 9 = $63) they do not offer you to order a bottle or 2 with a better quality.
The free drinks package means 15 drinks. Max per drink is $ 9. They don’t offer you the premium package if you booked explore 4 in advance !.
