This is for the Southbound Cruise We arrived in Anchorage (from San Diego)by noon and embarked on the only downside of the trip - the exhausting 3hr. bus trip to Seward. It was a gorgeous trip, but long and followed by a delay due to the arrival of several buses at the same time. They had us circle the tiny town of Seward several times and kill an extra 30 minutes before allowing our bus to pull in at the check-in point. The check-in line moved quickly and the trip proceeded smoothly from that point. We enjoyed our dinner at the early seating, where we were joined by two other members of our family who had joined the cruise from different parts of California. We awakened the next morning to a blanket of pale turquoise-Glacier Bay. The sky, the bay and the glacier were monochromatic and it was wondrous to see....very surreal and like being on another planet. The glacier thundered and pieces fell into the bay with a slow motion crash, creating a large ripple on the bay. We stayed on the balcony (which I highly recommend getting) and watched for the entire time the ship stayed there. As cold as it was, and I don't recall the temperature, it was exhilarating! The trip proceeded to the ports of Juneau, Valdez, Ketchikan and Skagway. (not necessarily in that order) Our favorite was Ketchikan by far, where we saw salmon leaping from a stream and had lunch at a quiet cafe on the waterfront. You can skip Valdez completely and spend a relaxing afternoon in the ship's well appointed spa or swim in one of the two main heated pools. The odor of chlorine was present indoors, but the water was warm and inviting. The outdoor pool was equally as warm and comfortable, without the chlorine in the air! The ship was gorgeous! It was immaculately kept and the service, both in our cabin and in the various diningrooms was superb. We have a child and so did not partake of most of the nightime activities. He does not enjoy group activities so we don't often use the children's facilities. I would give this trip a 95 out of 100 in every area but the bus trip-and that can't really be helped. You get it either before you embark (Southern Bound) or after your trip (North Bound) so it's up to you which to chose. Read Less
