This was our 5th cruise aboard Regent, and the staff and crew were fabulous as usual. We met Anastasia, Marla and Lorraine, and saw Rahul again. SS Mariner is so beautiful, but the staff really make the cruise. Lorraine is a wonderful cruise Director and always cheerful and accommodating. Marla is a fantastic conversationalist and so friendly and comfortable to be around. Anastasia is one of the most charming and sweetest service staff that we've ever met, and Rahul is super friendly and attentive. Our cabin was 376 sq ft plus a 76 sq ft balcony. It was well appointed. Our Butler was super. We finally figured out how to use a butler, by scheduling hors d' oeuvres at 5 every day, with Martini glasses for us and our friend for whom we purchased another cabin. We'd previously reserved our cabin liquor. The food on Mariner is spectacular. We felt guilty as we usually eat smaller portions and, accordingly, a lot of leftover food went back to the kitchen. Specialty restaurants are favorites; Signatures and Prime 7. Of the 5 cruises on Regent, on this one, we spent the most time on the ship, instead of taking shore excursions. Crew Capers, the last performance staged by the crew onboard, is always tearful, as it is done by volunteers, and creates a beautiful memory of staff and the last night onboard. Those memories will always be cherished. The only issue that we had was apparently as a result of the merger with NCL and a mis-communication of management orders. On Regent, cigarette and cigar smoking is permitted in the Connoisseur Club and one area of the pool deck. Pipe smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club. I'd made friends with another passenger and we smoked cigars in the designated area of the pool deck. We were approached several times (in a very cordial manner) by bar staff on the pool deck that cigar smoking was not permitted. They were very friendly, but it was, nevertheless, a little intimidating and disconcerting. On the third approach, I showed the bar staff member the RSSC website and it's rules aboard Mariner, and he apologized and we were not bothered again. Unfortunately, that was the last afternoon on board. In July, we booked Explorer for two back to back Mediterranean cruises for a total of 15 nights starting late October, and we're looking forward to seeing Hassain and Anastasia again aboard Explorer. We'll have another totally fabulous experience aboard Regent on its newest ship. We've compared other cruise lines to Regent, and honestly feel that Regent is like our home away from home to us, though, as Lorraine says on the last night of the cruise; when we get back home, take a shower and drop the towel on the floor, we're a bit dismayed that there is no one there to pick it up after us : ) A very huge Thank You to Regent and staff for our wonderful cruising experiences! We can't praise you enough for such rewarding, exciting yet relaxing times aboard your beautiful ships. Vince and Paul Read Less
