I choose this ship because the itinerary that was excellent, specially for the 3 day stop at St. Petersburg (Russia). The embarkation process was very smooth and quick, no more than 5 minutes to complete all process. The ship is small and quite old but it doesn't seem old just not modern. The Ship has all what you need to expect from a RCI cruise, big atrium, pools, kids zone etc... In this trip I had 2 staterooms, one oceanview (7008) and one Balcony (8056). The cabins were normal, not big but also not very small, good for 2 or even 3 people. The bedding was nice and also the storage spaces. What I really dislike was that the only amenity Royal gives to customers in Oceanview and Balcony was a 1 in 3 Shampoo-Conditioner-Shower gel....even MSC or Celebrity gives 3 different bottles for different products! The food was ok, not specially good. The Windjammer Buffet Is ok but always the same food for a 10 day cruise is absurd. The main dinning room was also ok, the service was good and food also good. I purchase the unlimited specialty restaurants and was good because the food at Izumi, Giovannis and Chops is excellent but the ship is so small that paying the unlimited specialty restaurants is not worth it (just for Serenade), in other Royal ships you have more choices and it make sense. If you like Coffee...its horrible, even the speciality coffee. The worst thing about the entire cruise was the entertainment, the night shows were horrible, definitely Royal needs to upgrade the shows at smaller ships, the company concentrates a lot in larger ships but not in smaller. Overall, the service was good, the cabins are spacious but they have a lack on amenities. the ports of call were amazing. Read Less

always wanted to see the Norwegian coastline and this cruise did not disappoint. From the snow covered mountains to the hustle and bustle of Bergen - and RCI did a good job organising everything. we didn't have a drink package on this trip due to all the shore time and this worked well. Furthermore, the embarkation and back to back arrangements went well (nearly everything) the food was wholesome and one would have a good choice of faire - we didn't partake in speciality dining but Windjammer and anytime dining was great. Shore excursions were well organised and everything ran like clockwork (we did have one that we booked ouselves that didn't work out but thats another story). Crew were excellent including our room attendant - John - looked after us and our room was always spotless. The only thing was no shuttle from the ship on two of the stops without cost - seems a little issue but should be addressed. Furthermore, although I love not having the internet maybe having it included in the cost would be a game changer for others - people complained about the cost. Read Less

We chose this review because of the new areas we have not been to. Ponce PR and Grenada. All in all we really enjoyed the cruise. The Pinnacle/Suite Concierge was very good and we really enjoyed the special party put on for Pinnacle/Suite Guests. It was so good to see Mario in the Diamond lounge again. The elevator's were the only problem for us. They were so small and key hole shaped. Not good. We have traveled on the Serenade of the Seas before in 2009 14 night Panama Canal Cruise and 2012 The 12 night Mediterranean Greek Isles Cruise and do not remember the elevators being like that. The dining rooms also have changed and not for the better. Would like a better menu. There were so many things I could not eat. I ordered Original Chocolate Ensure from Special needs and did not receive it for 4 days. I got mighty hungry before it showed up. They first sent me Vanilla on day 3 which I did not like... wish I knew how to expedite this on my next several cruises so I get it in my cabin on the first night. Read Less

Just the right size for us. Great crew but some dinners in MDR could have been a little better. Fried chicken one night was dry and mostly bones. Windjammer basically had the same offerings every day. Was very bored with their lunches. Our room steward was excellent. He paid so much to detail. Best steward in my 22 cruises. Ship was very clean and no sickness as far as we could tell. Have been at all the ports before except Bonaire. We enjoyed all of them no matter how many times we have been there. Wish they would have more deck chairs. Sea days was impossible to find an open seat. Many saving of chairs. Very annoying. Spent every evening in the diamond lounge. Snacks could have been better. Mario the diamond concierge was wonderful and trying to keep everyone happy. Waited a little long for servers to take our drink orders. Read Less

We choose this 11 day cruise based on the itinerary and price. We also read comments from other cruise critic members that indicated the ship was very comfortable with lot's glass in the public areas that offered some great views. The embarkation was very quick. Less than 15 minutes. We found the ship very comfortable, but did notice quite a bit of wear on the furniture. The food choices were pretty good, except that for the entire 11 day cruise, the main dining room served the same vegatables with ever meal. (carrots & broccoli) And yet other options were available in the Windjammer. The servers in the main dining room were exceptional. We found the entertainment overall quite good. Most of the headliners were very good and the ships singers and dancers were very talented. The stateroom was comfortable and our room steward did a great job of looking after all our needs. The 5 days at sea were very relaxing. The service was great in both the dining room and the Windjammer. The food choices each evening were great and on the second formal night we had lobster and with refills allowed!! The Windjammer had a great variety of food and everything was a great temp. The evening shows were excellent with a good variety of shows. Getting on and off the ship at each port was very smooth with no long lines. Our cabin was a balcony cabin on deck 8 midship - we had plenty of storage and we enjoyed sitting there every evening with a nightcap. We were close to everything and walked to most places. Read Less

A neighbor of our close friends researchers cruises for good prices and perks. Almost two years ago, our friends told us about this cruise. There were 28 people from our over 55 community here in Texas. Most of these people were doing back to back on this particular cruise. We signed up for the second cruise. We have taken 14 cruises since we retired ten years ago.....10 with Celebrity and this being the 4th with RCCL. We realized that the Serenade had been around for a number of years. But the itinerary and the reputation that RCCL has/had was a good reason to sign up for it. Starting from the good to bad reviews, let me start with the good. Our room attendant and the wait staff were excellent. It was what you would expect, or wanted, on a cruise. The food was good. It could have been better, but we were okay with it. By no means was it outstanding. And, we definitely have experienced cruises with some above average appetizers, entrees and desserts. The entertainment usually held in the theater at two scheduled times was not good. There was no entertainment on two nights. Zilch. Oh, they did offer movies in a cinema room. But the big entertainment for the night was missing. Instead they called a movie their entertainment. And, this happened on the preceding cruise taken by many of our friends. I have to give this review a fair-good rating. A 5 out of 10 !!! I forgot to add that the overall status of the ship was in need of some major overhaul. Many areas appeared worn. I am not sure if they have had any refurbishing of this ship. 7610 Read Less

We were on the Serenade two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When we saw this year’s ininerary, we decided to sail on her again. I love the size of the ship. She has plenty of activities to keep us occupied and it’s also very easy to get around. We attended a few shows; our favorite was Travis Cloer, the headliner. He played Frankie Valli in “The Jersey Boys” on Broadway and put on one of the best performances that I’ve seen on any ship. The magician and comedian were also good. Two years ago, my one negative comment was that the food could be better. A ship’s officer told me that they changed chefs, and I could tell the difference. The food was excellent. We did not have a bad meal in the MDR or in the Windjammer. How they manage to keep such high standards while feeding so many people is a mystery to me. DeDe and Gorin, our waiters in the MDR, took excellent care of us. Our cabin was small but serviceable for just the two of us. I did notice that the furniture showed its age, and some refurbishing could be in order. We took a few tours of some the islands. One of our favorites was in St. Kitts. The tour owner and guide was Desiree, and she was fantastic. She was born and raised on the island and knew everything about it. While she’s not a RC sponsored tour guide, she was excellent and made sure we were back to the ship in plenty of time. All in all, we had a great time, and the Serenade has not seen the last of us. We just finish a 12 night Christmas/New Years cruise. Everything was wonderful. The food in the MDR was excellent, maybe a little more varitity, but if you have cruised more the 1 time you are aware of this before you booked. If you want more go to Sandels for a week and quit cruising and complaining. The Windjammer is a buffet... IT IS A BUFFET.. the food was excellent for a buffet. Again don't complain...go to the MDF for lunch on sea days, FANTASTIC. Service was GREAT,,, room attendent, Waiters, Asst. Waiters, Greeters in the Windjammer. These people work at least 10 hour days 7 days a week and still manage to keep a friendly smile and attitude. Willing to bet most of us wouldn't last a week working on a cruise ship. Remember before you write a bad review, you choose to cruise and a lucky enough to be able to go on a wonderful vacation... DINING... Food was GREAT. MDR as well as all 3 special restaruants. Izumi is an experience that we really enjoyed. The hot rock dinners were amazing. ENTERTAINMENT.. Maybe not a broadway show, but very enjoyable for us. We are on vacation, we are greatful for all types of entertainment. BINGO is our favorite... SERVICE. All the service, from room attendent, dinner waiters, cleaning crews, bartenders and all the wonderful people who work at these almost unbearables job that they do and still have a smile and friendly greeting all the time... PORTS AND SHORE EXCURSIONS We booked all our excursion through RCCL and were satisfied, we just enjoy bus tours w/ stops that give you a feeling of the island life. Read Less

We booked this cruise because it was 10 nights and the itinerary was a good one. The ports of call were good saint kitts was beautiful. The ship was beautiful. I liked the way it was easy to maneuver. The thing i liked was that it had a dedicated theater. Which rccl has done away with on most ships. I just love having a choice to see an in house movie . The movies were good. I loved the windjammer the food was actually excellent. The ribs and the brisket and the all the grilled veggies were very nice. The waffle machine where belgium waffles were made fresh with all toppings every day was a plus. On other ships i have seen frozen toaster waffles. The deserts were good .The dining room was excellent with great service lobster wasn't over cooked and the prime rib was perfect. In fact every dinner we had in both the dining room and the windjammer was perfect. The latitudes coffee bar was great. The service was quick and personal touch was much appreciated. The shows were good but not plentiful which was my complaint. It lacked comedy shows and other broadway type shows. Some days no show at all??? The casino was tight but friendly. The pools were crowded but i usually don't swim since i have a pool at home it's no big deal. The bars were busy and friendly the service was great and the drinks were fairly poured sometimes even generous. I really loved our cruise on this ship .I would do it again on the same ship. They will go the extra mile to get things done. The entertainment on the ship is diverse and upbeat. The ship was clean and shiny. The cruise director is full of energy and fun. Everyone has their own preferences and Royal does their best to accommodate everyone. I’m not saying they are perfect, but pretty close. I spent a lot of time in the Diamond lounge and the wait staff there is fantastic. The drinks and appetizers are delicious. I love the ports but I really don’t even get off half the time. I recently took a cruise from Boston to Bermuda 9/31/18-10/7/18. I love taking the cruise ship out of Boston it’s very convenient for us being only 45 minutes away, no flying. Also, Royal Caribbean leaves on Sunday afternoon at 5:00. Our designated arrival time was the earliest scheduled for between 10:30-11:30, we were there at 10:15 sharp and we were allowed to board the ship at 10:25…….. 10 minutes later. I love this!!! NCL makes you wait until noon. I know it’s petty……. but I love that little perk! Yes! Being a gold member I did have priority boarding anyway. The Sunday departure is GREAT because there’s no traffic whatsoever around the cruise terminal or in or out of Boston on Sunday compared to Friday departures and arrivals on NCL. Also the construction from 93N to the terminal is complete now and it’s exit 18, right onto Congress Street and straight to the terminal entrance, very easy to get to now that the constructions done in that area! Royal Caribbean... to start……… I can’t stress this enough……. the staff was SUPERB!!!!!! They actually had crew members wearing bright yellow T shirts that read “ I can help you ask me any question you’d like”. Also the food was outstanding! from the main dinning to the buffet!!! The entire crew we engaged, was always pleasant, and willing to help! We sampled virtually everything in the buffet. Our head waiter Danny from Indonesia and his assistant waitress Elaina from Romania were the best team I’ve ever experienced on or off a ship in any restaurant! Our water glasses were never below ¾’s full, the second we were done with our entry or desert the setting was cleared……. I love that….. it shows they’re paying attention to their guests!!!! Truly a pair of professionals!! I also liked the fact that when we were sitting on the ship the waiters throughout the ship would be walking around with a variety of drinks…..NO!!! Not pushing alcohol but delivering, cold drinks such as: lemon aid, strawberry drinks, ice tea, hot coffee, hot tea, and water. Yes… of course they would take an alcohol order as well. Love that, service with a smile!!!! I have not been on a RCL cruise in 9-10 years. I am a gold member with both cruise lines. In 2009 I left from the port of Seattle, Washington on the Radiance of the Seas which was a cruise to Alaska. If you have never done it…it’s a must!! For the past 7 years I have been taking the NCL Dawn from Boston to Bermuda. What a difference! I read on line the Dawn would be repositioning south and the NCL Gem would be replacing her departing from Boston on Fridays starting in 2019 at 4:00 in late April early May. The parking this year has changed from last year back to the garage, the open parking lots at the pier are now specifically for monthly parking only. Parking has increased from $140.00 a week in 2017 to $175.00 this year :( Ouch!! It has changed ownership, but they now take Master, Visa, Amex, and I believe Discover, NO MORE CASH PAYMENTS!! Our room location was deck 10 1002 forward sweet 2 port side (left) we always get a balcony forward this seems to be the quietest part of the ship for us. Plus 1 floor up for the pool, food and sun, 3 floors down to the theater. Now being located on deck 10 which on this ship just happens to be the first deck under the pool deck and jogging track. I could hear the joggers very early in the morning but it was very, very faint. There are plenty of elevators on board no problem with overcrowding or excessive waiting. We were allowed in our rooms at 1:00 and had our luggage by 5:00. The ship was immaculate!!! The room was adequate like all the rest but…. the bathroom shower was very, very tight!!! I have to say the shower is very small and the only negative thing on the ship!! I’m 6’ tall 180 lbs. on the thin side and I was bumping and banging my elbows the whole time I was in there….. it’s tight!! Think NCL dawns toilet area with the sliding door, That’s the size of your shower. It’s very small!! All and All GREAT trip! Read Less

Starting with my first Royal Caribbean Cruise 15yrs ago, then multiple Carnival Cruises after that, we decided to choose Royal Caribbean again because of how much we enjoyed the first one. After 5 Cruises prior to this one in 2018, I’d consider myself experienced and because of that, I have realistic expectations of what a Cruise should entail. Well, unfortunately this one was the WORST ship (Serenade of the Seas) I’ve been on. We travelled with a group of family consisting of ten people in total - 6 adults and 4 children. Three children under the age 10, one being 12 and the adults ranging from 40yrs of age to 60 yrs of age. We were amongst 1800 senior citizens, if not more! (Nothing against seniors, for the record) They should just market this Cruise for seniors, and not families traveling with little ones. 2/3 pools were closed on the ship. Jumbo TV over the main area was broken so there were no movie nights for the entire 7 day duration of the Cruise. Kid friendly night club was closed, as well as most of the child friendly activities weren’t running. There’s one indoor pool on the boat, which was considered “adult only” however nobody mentions that children are allowed to swim 2hrs per day during a scheduled period until the very last day of the Cruise - THANKS! The formal dining service was not very good and the food was mediocre at best. The Matradee (short, balding, mid 50’s, Greek type fellow) responsible for looking after the guests dining experience, purposely ignored our table every night, only catering to the senior citizens. It was almost comical watching him squirm and go out of his way to Ignore our table. We travelled in a pack of 10, it would be pretty hard not to see us!! The daycare centre was phenomenal and for the kids, one of the highlights of the trip. They were excellent with our kids and they enjoyed their time & activities at “Adventure Ocean”. The boat was very dated and it showed in all areas of the ship, There was next to no child friendly live entertainment and unless you wanted to listen to vulgarity, you were out of luck. This Cruise fell WAY below my expectations, especially for the high standard I remembered Royal Caribbean to have. It was such a bad experience, I have no reason to ever book again with them. Carnival Cruise line was way better. SO much more of a friendlier family, single and couples ship and to top it off....so much more affordable!! Royal Caribbean, you dropped the ball big time!! My friend and I chose this cruise bc it was the only 5 day cruise out of Boston with the New England and Canada intinerary. Our boarding was delayed because the Coast guard wanted to inspect the ship due to Serenade returning from a summer overseas...at least we knew the ship was safe!! You could also see Royal’s procedures in place to ensure a smooth boarding process and it was. It’s just that the ship was completely booked so there were a lot of people boarding at once rather than trickling on all day. The rooms opened promptly at 2. Our room was very nice and clean and our room attendant Juliarta was amazing...he made our cruise special with his attentiveness, efficiency and sense of humor! We were on the starboard side of the ship and we got both sunrise and sunset from our balcony! We stopped in the R Bar in the Centrum first and this turned out to be our favorite place to hang out.. there was a guitar player who entertained there a couple of times who was amazing! We also enjoyed Vintages and the Schooner for trivia..we received great service from the staff in all of these places! The ship itself is beautiful with different artwork in every corner hallway and stairwell, they even have a champagne art auction! The food in all of the venues was very good...service even better...we were especially impressed with the lunch buffet in Reflections dining room and the nice hot food in the Windjammer! We even had someone bringing us drinks and clearing things for us in the Windjammer. We dined in Giovanni’s and Chops and the service and food was second to none! We did Giovanni’s for 1st nite done right and it was only $20...There are so many choices to eat..just not in Rita’s Cantina, which was disappointing bc we wanted Mexican food with Margaritas! The excursions we took on this cruise were really great! 3 hour tour of Peggy’s Cove in Halifax and the trolley tour of St John. 1 1/2 hours...then we hopped off at the City market and walked back to the ship. There was a flea market inside a white tent specifically for cruise ship travelers, in St John...down the street and on your left of the terminal...Everyone in Canada takes American dollars! And they reduce the price for you...$20 Canadian and $17 American..I can’t say enough about how friendly everyone is in Canada!! Some people complained that they didn’t enjoy their 6 hour tours in both ports!, but I can’t even imagine touring for that long! I would suggest a shorter excursion and then finishing off with your own tour/ lunch by yourself..It’s perfectly safe and easy to get around in these city’s.. Bar Harbor was a different story because we were completely fogged in and we had to go thru immigration on the ship, but they couldn’t find the ship due to the fog! It backed everything up bc it was a slow process getting off, with excursion boats arriving late and only 2 tenders unloading everyone..But RC made up for it by giving us an extra hour in port and enlisting the help of local tour boats to get everyone back on in a timely manner!! Keep the very real possibility of fog in mind when you plan your excursions...sometimes they go anyway and you can’t see anything! There is plenty of shopping and dining in Bar Harbor if you choose not to do an excursion. Disembarkation was backed up a bit bc Boston was slow in releasing the ship, but it got moving pretty quickly...our bags were waiting for us and we were in a taxi by 9:30am....it would have been longer if we had to go through immigration. Overall, I was really impressed with every aspect of this cruise...the ship, the crew, the ports and the excursions..the only hiccups were from things outside of Royal Caribbean and they did everything possible to make up for it So I can say that I recommend it highly! 2 thumbs up!! We chose this cruise for the itinerary plus we got a good price with Planet cruise. The cabin was lovely and spacious. Staff were very good. Food was good and the bars were excellent. We bought the drinks package. This was worth it as the drinks are pricey. The only negative was the queuing to enter St Petersburg. This was not helped by RC excursion team insisting that their excursions go first. My advice just leave the ship ASAP. No one was stopped. We had an excellent tour of St Petersburg with Alla tours. Our guide Pauline was excellent. Other passengers were complaining about the ships excursions. We were a party of 5 with 3 cabins. We all had a brilliant time. We made our own way around Tallin, Riga and Helsinki. It was easy to get around. Would recommend this trip for all ages. You'll have A fab time. Read Less

We wanted to see the Baltic and this cruise is absolutely ideal especially as it leaves from Copenhagen and finishes in Stockholm. The ports visited provided great variety and interest. It is an awesome area to visit. The ship was comfortable, the service good and staff very friendly. We took the Royal Caribbean organised trips and they were very good, the guides were excellent and very knowledgeable and made these places come alive. The St Petersburg days were absolutely fantastic and this cruise takes you to such a wide variety of locations with such a diverse set of cultures and history. This cruise gives you a great opportunity to see a variety of countries in the period of ten days We also took the tour round the ship on the cruising day which was brilliant and allowed a glimpse of how it all works behind the scene. The engineering section was very very good. We had timed dining which was very good and meant we had the same table each night and same waiters who were excellent, friendly and humourous. The food was also very good and varied. We visited the theatre on several evenings after dinner and enjoyed a good variety of entertainment, the Irish four piece group Graffiti were first class, very talented and funny. Read Less

This was my second cruise and have already booked a trip again on Royal Caribbean for next year through the Panama Canal. Felt really relaxed after each of two different types of massages during the 10-day cruise. There were so many activities onboard that we never got a chance to play miniature golf, swim, or go into the hot tub like we had on my first cruise. One singular entertainment drawback was insufficient variety of movies to consider; they could have introduced more during the slotted show times. Despite gale warnings, captain piloted ship so deftly that our wine hardly swayed in the glass after we left Tallinn (note: learned in Stockholm from Norwegian Cruise passenger who left Saint Petersburg on same day, they had to skip port call in Helsinki during same storm). Our table service and the food in Reflections was so outstanding, we really looked forward to each evening meal. Read Less

Two couples: We chose this cruise to fulfill a bucket list for both of the ladies. We wanted a Norway itinerary and this 11 day cruise certainly delivered. We flew into Copenhagen 3 days early and enjoyed this city a lot. Stayed at the Andersen Boutique Hotel, only three blocks from the main train station, and it was excellent. Very highly recommended. Be aware that Copenhagen is a bit toward the expensive side, but there is a lot to do ... canal tour and Ho-Ho bus were good, and Tivoli Gardens is not to be missed. Our ship sailed for a day and a half and first port was Geiranger. Beautiful all around, and don't miss a trip to the top of Mt. Dalsnibba. The Fjord Center was very nice and a great place to visit with a nice snack bar inside. Sailed next to Tromso and crossed the Arctic Circle...make sure you get your blue nose...Aquavit is an acquired taste tho. Tromso is a great port town...we took a tour out to the Island of Sommeroy and toured by bus through the area. There is a lot in this largest town north of the Arctic Circle. We liked the beer and the atmosphere at the Old Hallen where the Mack brewery used to be. Next was Honningsvag at the tip of Norway. We toured by bus to two local fishing villages and saw lots of reindeer everywhere, including lounging around in the first village. We had rain, snow, sleet, and bright sunshine all in the space of a three hour tour. Some folks went all the way to the northernmost area, the North Cape and visited the town and the monument there. A long sail south to Alesund and we had a city tour here including a trip to the top of the mountain for a fabulous view at Fjellstua. If you are active ... you can walk up or down the 418 steps from city center to the top. We also had a great tour of the outdoor Sunnemore museum with lots of buildings and boats to explore. This was very nice, and the cafe inside the big museum building has free wi-fi. Next, we loved Flam. Make sure you take the train up and back to Myrdal. The train was packed, so make sure you get a ticket in advance. There is a local brewery right next to the cruise dock and the beer is excellent...well worth the price. (There is a LOT of tax on alcohol in Norway.) Our final stop was Bergen. We did a tour to see the highlights of the area and were dropped off at Bryggen, or the old wharf area of town. Do not miss the funicular to the top of Mt. Floyen. On the harbor is the outdoor fish market, under red tents. There is also a large building there with the tourist info center of the second floor and several fish markets/restaurants on the first floor. If you like seafood ... eat at the outdoor market ... they have a bit of everything there. We took all shore excursions from the ship, but many towns had Ho-Ho bus tours and fjord cruises that you can get locally, at a cheaper price. Be advised that if more than one ship is in port...it can be crowded and trips can be hard to book. We enjoyed our RC cruise ... it is not the best we've had, or the worst. Food was good, service was mostly excellent, with one glaring dining room exception, and our cabin steward was superb. Thanks so much Terri from Trinidad/Tobago. Thanks to Jouta, Jay, and Arleen, who were great wait staff. Ask for Rachael, Jennifer or LeAnne (crazy Canadians) who work with the shore excursions group. On sea days .. you can get a $2.00 mimosa from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Casino bar. This is the best deal on the ship. (They will do a peach bellini or cranberry mimosa too for the same price.) Good bartenders here. We did not try any of the for fee themed restaurants...thought they were overpriced, and besides, the main dining room food was very good. The Windjammer Cafe was good, but seating at times can be a hassle when they are busy. The Park Cafe around the pool was good, but watch their dining hours. There is no24 hour food on the ship, except room service and there is a delivery charge at all times except if you order from the Continental breakfast side of the menu. On our other cruises, room service was free. Laundry on board is very expensive and there is no self-serve facilities. Entertainment was good in the main theater about half the time. The musicians in the Centrum and the lounges were excellent. The onboard orchestra was excellent. We enjoyed the Vibes Nation duo the most. We would do a RC cruise again, for the itinerary...there was no WOW that would make us choose RC just for the fact thatit is RC. There were many little things that bothered us at times, and we cruise to enjoythe trip, not to be annoyed by little things. Read Less

My sister and I took this cruise because our family came over to Minnesota from Norway. Our great grandfather was from Alesund so we wanted to see what the country was like. I know why they chose Minnesota as below the arctic circle it looks like Minnesota. Above the Arctic Circle it is a vast wilderness, not many people, no trees, and cold, but interesting to visit once. We flew in to Copenhagen a day early to try to adjust to the time change. Stayed at the Radisson Park Inn about 15 minutes from the airport. It was 90 that day, the warmest day of our entire trip. It snowed twice while we were in Norway. We boarded the ship on Sunday, waited about 15 minutes to embark, and since it was almost 1:00 we went to our floor, cabin 9066 and waited for a few minutes and were allowed in. We immediately met Neuman our cabin steward who was great the entire trip. We did a back to back and this was the first leg. The second was a Baltic cruise. Will write another review for that. We cruised Monday and arrived in Geiranger Tuesday. We got off and boarded a Hop On Hop Off bus and toured the town. We purchased our passes on line with Stromma for all our Hop On Hop Off rides, you get a discount and take 3 the fourth is free. Wednesday we cruised the arctic circle. Thursday we arrived in Tromso and took a ship tour Highlights of Tromso, saw the Arctic Cathedral, explored the museum and took a cable car up 1,350 feet to see a great view of the area. It snowed at the top of the cable car. The next day we were in Honningsvag and took the Our Northernmost Life Perleporten, two hour guided walking tour. This is the northernmost mainland point at 71 degrees of the world, no trees but lots of rock. The next day we cruised and Sunday we arrived in Alesund. We did the Hop on Hop Off bus here and were able to see the entire city of our ancestor. Monday we arriced in flam, Norway. We took the Flam Railway and it was absolutely fabulous. The scenery was amazing and the train ride was fun. Snow-capped peaks, spectacular rivers, ravines and falls. We had a snack at the top at the Vatnahalsen Hotel of Norweigian waffles. There are lots of fjords to see, water falls and beautiful scenery all along the trip. In Bergen and again took the Hop On Hop Off Bus and toured the town. Wednesday we cruised and were back to Copenhagen on Thursday. Since we were on a back to back we got off the ship and toured Copenhagen on the Hop On Hop Off bus. We did see the shows on the ship, they were okay, the entire singers and dancers were getting off the ship so they lacked energy. The casino was busy and one woman hit the $10,000 jackpot on the first night so that was interesting. We did not disembark in Copenhagen as we were on the b2b which will end in Sweden. the food was good, you could always find something to eat, we did the Mystery dinner which was fun and it was held in Giovannis, the food was very good there. We often ate lunch in the Solarium after our touring, ate in the Windjammer for breakfast, the waffles were amazing. Our table mates in the main dining room were a blast for we enjoyed all our dinners there. This was a very different type of cruise as it was cold and daylight most of the time, not much sun and the pool was only open two times up stairs. The solarium was open all the time. Read Less

Picked Serenade Narch 30 for the itinerary. Had never been to St Croix and St Kitts. Serenade is the 3rd Radiance class ship we have sailed on. It’s pretty perfect to us. Distance between stateroom and dining room, Windjammer, Centrum, really anywhere is short. For someone with mobility problems it’s wonderful. Our service all the way round was excellent. In the dining room I asked what happened to Savoury Bites and they appeared, waiting for my arrival every night. Our waiter, Paolo, and assistant waiter constantly offered extras and made sure we had everything we needed. The tutti salad bar and especially the stir fry and pasta bars at lunch the last sea day get 6 stars in my book. We booked two ship’s shore excursions and thoroughly enjoyed both. In Martinique we did the Panoramic tour which included the town of Ste Pierre which was devasted by a volcanic eruption, and in St Kitts the Caribbean Scenic Railway, which was lovely. I was given great and friendly service everywhere I turned. We had our car in Pt. Everglades so could take our time disembarking. Even with a lovely breakfast in the dining room, we were in our car at 9:05am!!! I have only two adverse comments: Our dinners were excellent, especially the roasted strip loin, but were not plated with the care we’re used to. One night my prime rib was especially lumpy. There was a large stalk of broccoli under it. Often the veggies were half hidden under the meat thrown on top. The other comment is about trivia, which may seem trivial. The man and woman who alternated working trivia had very heavy accents to the point that no one knew what they were saying. This was every day, and frustrating for those who enjoy trivia. In the interest of full disclosure, I am only 50% loyal to Royal as we alternate with Princess. Our last 2 cruises, on Coral Princess and on Serenade of the Seas, were among the best of the 52 or 53 cruises we’ve enjoyed over the last 35 years. Read Less

As the title suggest, this cruise was made for my wife and I. It was our 4th Caribbean cruise and by an amazing coincidence, all six ports of call would be new to us. It's not so easy finding a cruise with all new destinations every time you sail. You will note from the overall rating above stops at "very good," and just one aspect stopped me from making it "excellent." The cruise from the very start and almost to the end was without any criticism, until disembarkation. I'm sorry to say that Royal Caribbean's intention to get that number of guests off of the ship in their planned time is, to be kind, extremely over-ambitious. They had a staged process in place but in the end the queues to get off, and then through passport control were horrific, That said, I cannot emphasise enough that everything else about the cruise was outstanding. My wife and I were debating which line is our favourite between Royal Caribbean and Princess, and up until the shambolic disembarkation, we really couldn't split them. You will note that I haven't rated some of the categories below. It is in no way a derogatory comment, just that we didn't use the facility. I would still recommend Royal Caribbean if somebody asked what I thought of them, just warn then that leaving at the end of your cruise could be easier. Read Less

It provided 4 ports that we had never seen before (Ponce, PR - Barbados - Antigua & Granada) as well as two of our favorites ports (St. Kitts & St. Lucia). We especially love to sail on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. They provide very fine cuisine and service. We usually eat in the dining room for most of our meals and prefer to dress for dinner. This cruise has two formal nights but no the jacket and tie nights which tends to make us feel out of place in our suits. RCCI always has the most polite staff and crew. They always have a good day or something as you pass them. While the ship is not one of the newest in the line it is well maintained and clean. We had smooth sailing and wonderful weather all throughout the 12 days of the cruise and I am sure that this was due to the wonderful experience of our able CAPTAIN. Read Less

This was our 3rd time on this vessel and it was very enjoyable. Being a US Master Mariner Unlimited I take vessels very seriously. I find the RCCL vessels to be very well managed in all aspects of the sea. I am also a Deputy Maritime Commissioner and look at Safety at Sea aspects of the shipboard life in accordance with the International Maritime Organization Conventions/regulations, ILO and STCW. Embarking and disembarking was very good. I would recommend that RCCL have the US Health Form on line that can be printed with your Sea Pass. It would save additional time because many people are very slow readers and cannot figure it out. That slows the check in time. We had My Time Dining and selected 1900 every night. It was only delayed one time for 15 minutes. Had same table and same guests every night which worked very well. The RCCL Singers/ Dancers and orchestra are as GREAT as always. Read Less

Left from Port Everglades and did self park in ramp garage after dropping off luggage at terminal. Took free shuttle to the ship and embarkment was easy. The RC Serenade of the Seas was built in 2003 and it shows its age with the dated décor and smaller ship then there are available today and doesn't have all the amenities the newer ships do. Still the crew works hard to keep it clean and are the friendliest crews ever, even though most are very hard to understand their English. Rooms ready by 1pm, luggage came around 3pm. Had inside stateroom which is much smaller then other ships been on but plenty of storage and clean. Nice linens, towels, pillow, comfy bed. This cruise and ship were chosen by us strictly because of the itinerary. Southern Caribbean ports of call for a first time visit by us. To our observation, 70 percent of the passengers were 70 yrs, plus, 20 percent with mobility issues, and 60 percent overweight. Not a cruise for young ones as not much to do for them. Entertainment: The nightly shows in the Tropical Theater were very good. The variety of dance music and the other musicians performing throughout ship very good. Casino typically tight slots. Other activities offered throughout day, but hard to understand persons giving trivia questions because most of the staff very hard to understand! Service: Wait staff, drink staff, stateroom attendents all friendly and efficient. Dining This is where we fell short of having a successful cruise. To us, one of the most important aspect of the cruise is the dining. The Main dining room food was awful to say the least. All very exotic with tons of unfamiliar spices on everything that to our taste was inedible. Was looking forward to our nice sit down, catered and waited on dining experience, one of the main pleasures of cruising. So disappointed, tried 5 times and it just was not to our taste. There is only a few venues to choose food from and Ended up most nights in Windjammer buffet and lo and behold a lot of those dishes very similar but enough salads, fruits, deserts, soups and a fresh carving station and a pasta station to choose from but was not the same!! For this reasons alone we will not be cruising RC again. We have cruised 5 other lines, in at least 17 cruises and never encountered this. Charges: At $14.50 per person per day, the gratuities are higher then other ships we have been on. We were able to carry on two 750 wine bottles and bought a three wine bottle package on board ($99 plus 18% gratuity). Also, purchased a Café-lattitudes card for 15 specialty coffees that is highly recommended. Also, had a 12L case of water delivered to room $39. Drinks on board $8 to $12, wine, beer, mixed plus gratuity. Read Less
