Chose this cruise for 4 reasons. One a Royal Caribbean ship we have not cruised on, itineraries, length of cruise and a super, super low price. What a great choice. looking for water slides etc. Not on this ship. Well so far a total of 66 cruises under our belt now and this one was one of the very best. Tie with the Harmony of the Seas. Totally two different ships but our two best picks. Only a few negatives and so many positives. This will be a long review. I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience. The ship, older but beautiful. Like a ship should be. Decorated heavily with nautical décor. So much wood and planks. So beautiful. Super comfortable and cozy. A nice warm feeling. Not just a floating shiny piece of steel. Because of it being an older ship, there are signs of wear. Totally understandable. However, they keep it up and looking very nice. Exceptional had cleaning everywhere. They also wipe down all the railings with disinfectant several times a day. Our Ocean view state room. Large port hole and beautiful décor also. Small but very comfortable. We no longer dine in the dining room. Such a waste of time. So we will talk about the buffet in the WindJammer. I cannot describe how delicious everything was every day, no exceptions. Unbelievable. The temperature of the food was always perfect. Service was tops. Breakfast, lunch and dinner had such a wide variety of food. Out of all the ships this one by far had the very best pizza. Made like it is in a Pizza shop. Not in an automated machine. In a Pizza oven. Always three different kinds and always so very hot and tasty. Like hand tossed. Never burnt or under baked. Always super fresh and stringy cheese. Yum! If you like a certain food, I bet they have it. I love mashed potatoes and on carnival, you will be lucky to get them once on a cruise. On RCCL every day lunch and dinner. happy me! The burgers for dinner were hand made, the fries, always perfect and always very hot. I could do 1000 words on just the food. Entertainment was tops. Headliners, not just singers and dancers. Eight piece orchestra. They were awesome. Lead singer from the Jersey Boys. Awesome performance. Music everywhere and all different. Getting off of the ship was like normal. However it was handled with precision and fast. As for the crew members. The ALL were so wonderful. Made you feel like you were part of the crew. They get along so well, laughed and joked around with one another. Talking to many, they ALL indicated they were like family and all had good times together. It shows, always a smile and big hello. Asking them if they wanted to do another contract on this ship. All said definitely. So if you are considering a cruise on the RCCL Serenade of the Seas. Totally recommend it. Not much for children on this ship. No water slides, but they do have a rock climbing wall. OK it can’t be perfect, can it. Right, it is not. But it is close. Only one recommendation. The soft serve machines. They have four of them, only one or two are ever used. They only have them operating during lunch and dinner hours. I wish they had one where the drinks are open 24/7 till at least midnight. Carnival 24/7. Nice to have a soft serve late in the evening or before retiring for the night. I have two negatives. One is the Bingo. Lowest cost is $29 you get three cards for three games, and one crack and peal. The top is $69 you get the automatic 32 card iPad and 6 cards and two crack and peal. The payout is super low. $100+ game one to $300+ for the top sometimes even lower. No different if a lot of players are there. If you are lucky to win, you hope you are the only winner. The very last game was for a free cruise. I can see paying more for that one. Not the others. They are a rip off for sure. Now for the biggest disappointment. That was the specialty steak house. DO NOT GO!! Do not waste your money unless you just want to get waited on. We waited over 45 minutes to get our steaks and only 8 people were in the steak house. All of steaks are terrible and a big rip off. The steaks in the WindJammer are far better. Guessing on the average of the cruisers I would say 60ish So I will close by saying. Have fun cruising. Totally recommend the Serenade of the Seas for an enjoyable, relaxing, wonderful cruise experience. Read Less

First off let me say we have cruised over 35 times with different cruise lines. Royal Caribbean has always been our favorite though and they did not disappoint this time. We are Diamond Members with RC so it takes a lot to impress us. From the food, to the service to the entertainment everything met or exceeded our expectations. This was a 10 day cruise that left from Ft. Lauderdale and visited St. Thomas, St. Croix, Antiqua, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. We have visited all the islands several times so we didn't do anything special in any of them. If you have never been though St. Thomas and St. Maarten are your shopping ports. There is not a whole lot in St. Croix or St. Kitts to see so we just got off and walked around some before heading back to the ship for lunch. In Antigua we did share a cab with 4 other people and went to a beautiful beach where we spent about 3 hours. The cab was only $6 a person round trip. Only pay for one way though to make certain they come back to get you. For an additional $20 we got a beach umbrella and 2 chairs. I believe the same tour off the ship was $56 a person. If you want a close and easy beach in St. Maarten just take the water taxi into town $7 round trip and you will see the beach chairs and umbrellas right where you get off the ferry. Most places were charging $20 - $25 for an umbrella, 2 chairs, and a couple of drinks. We thought it was a good deal. St. Maarten has many other beautiful beaches though as well, but those you will need to take a taxi to or a tour. This was nice that it was right close to the main street shopping and then you could sit and relax and just enjoy the view. One thing we really enjoyed about the Serenade was that it had an actual Movie Theater and each day it showed a new movie several times so you had options on when to go see it. We are not sun worshipers so it was nice to have something to do in the afternoon beside sitting by the pool. All the movies were current as well. We were in a standard inside cabin. There was lots of storage space. I do always take extra plastic hangers with us. There are never enough in any cabin we have ever stayed in. We did have to tape a towel over the air vent. It blew directly across our bed and we knew we would not be able to sleep with cold air blowing on us so we taped a towel over it and the air flowed down the wall instead and it worked perfectly. We will carry a roll of duct tape with us whenever we travel in the future. We prefer Main dining so we eat with the same people every night. We had great dinner partners and really enjoyed our time with them. A table of 6 is perfect for conversation. There was not one item we ordered that we did not like or had to ask the waiter to get us something else. Everything was delicious. We had only one very small complaint. That being, in the past grilled salmon was offered every night as an alternative along with strip steak and chicken breast. On this cruise instead of salmon they offered a fish of the day. We are not big fish eaters, but do like salmon so that was a little disappointment but again so minor it is hardly worth mentioning. Before sailing though we did book the 3 night Specialty Dinner package for $60 a person. This was a bargain. If you get an e-mail beforehand and this is offered take advantage of it. On ship it was $70. One night at Chop's Grill is $39. We ate one night at Giovanni's and 2 nights at Chop's Grill. Both restaurants are excellent. The filet is top notch and the service is outstanding. Each waiter only services 2 tables so you wait for nothing. Even though we enjoyed everything in the main dining room, as well as, our dinner partners it was nice to have an alternative for those nights. Especially with it being a 10 day cruise. The Diamond Lounge is small and since almost a third of the people on-board were Diamond, Diamond Plus or Pinnacle Members getting a seat in the lounge was difficult so we would just go to the Centrum area and get our drinks before dinner and listen to music there. Bar service in general was more of a walk-up service than waiters coming to you. We found this to be true pretty much everywhere on the ship. Again for us, no problem, because we are not big drinkers. We prefer water and iced tea which we would get from the Windjammer or Park Cafe in the Solarium. Another thing we liked was that the Centrum area was not excessively loud. We were on a Celebrity ship last Spring that had a similar layout as this ship and we could not stay in the Centrum area because there was just too much noise. Again, we have taken a lot of cruises so we have a lot to compare to and we don't always give a ship 10's across the board, but this one we did. Read Less

Wanted to return to Bermuda (7-nights), love the repo (12 nights), and love the itinerary for the 10-night at the end. From Day 1 we felt that all crew provided beyond exceptional service! Everywhere on the ship we noted that Officers not only supervised service, but participated in every aspect in every location. Crew members were always cheerful, many got to know us over the 30 days we were on board. Dining: First, we must compliment Dining Sevices for excellent management and organization of My Time Dining! We have experienced waits on other ships, but Serenade has this well managed. Our Head Waiter, Bassem Romdhane, is the best we have ever met. He personally ensured adherence to a milk allergy menu, even serving some courses himself. On discovering my love of tofu and stir fry dishes, he made that available any time. Also, we were greeted at the DR door each evening by Ayessa Ertugrul, Training Manager, as if she were waiting just for us! She always knew if our table was ready. We felt like king and queen during the entire trip! Concierge Lounge: A huge shout-out to our favorite Concierge Manager, Mario Abba Reyes! He is hands-down the best in the RCCL fleet! We actually book some cruises just to follow Mario, lol! Cabins: Unfortunately, we booked the B2B2B piecemeal, so were unable to get the same cabin for all. All were Spacious Ocean View (2B - 9078, 1104, and 9658) with balconies. We did feel that the decor is becoming a bit ‘tired’ but sheers had been replaced with new on balcony doors and Rooms were clean and well maintained. Cabin Attendants were wonderful and immediately addressed any issues we brought up. Not sure what happened for another reviewer who had mud on their balcony, but we found Attendants cleaning the balconies and outdoor furniture every day! Also, the Attendants moved our belongings for us each move, so no worrying about strangers handling things. Other: We very much enjoyed the musical talent of Damian Joyce in the Pub! Bar service was great there, as well, thanks to bar staff, Itupu, and bartender, Ian. We are not much for the theater entertainment, so cannot comment on that. Centrum duo was great, too. Excursions: We have been to these islands many times so only did a few. On Bermuda we did a private tour with Byways Tours and highly recommend. We love Ffryes Beach and lunch on Antigua. The Beach Rendezvous on St. Maartens was lovely despite some rain - probably the best shrimp sandwich I have ever had at Kim Sha Beach. Am likely forgetting something, but overall we have a wonderful month on Serenade! Can’t wait to sail with her and this amazing crew in April! Read Less

We selected this cruise for the exciting ports. The ports were incredible and memorable. But what was an unexpected surprise was how much fun we had on the ship. The ship is incredibly clean. I know this ship is older, but I found it in incredible condition. I have to give credit to the dining areas. How they are able to feed that many people and keep things so fresh and clean is truly a feat. I have been on a more expensive cruise and I did not care for the food. The food on this cruise was very very good. Truly. My particular mother in law said she never tried anything that she didn’t like. We didn’t go to any shows but I enjoyed the entertainment on board. We have a 7 year old son and the kids club was a complete success. I must pay special mention to our cabin steward. JOHNATHAN. He was so kind and made our cabins so fresh. Also a special note about MARK who I did arts and crafts with. Also the bar tenders were very nice. Special mention to Vortex and the schooner bar. Read Less

We chose the serenade because of the great destinations and with a 7 year old girl it felt like a convenient way to get around and see Scandinavia and Russia. Having said that we were very conscious that the ship itself was fairly old and small and we’d read reviews about everything that has gone wrong from embarkation to food to the service. But we were so pleasantly surprised right through the programme. Getting on the ship was an absolute breeze. We were taken into lunch at the Windjammer and by the time we’d finished the rooms were ready. The rooms also was just about right and clean with a cozy balcony. It was serviced twice a day with my child’s bunker bed put down during the evening turn down service. Our daughter absolutely loved the kids club activities in the adventure ocean club (9 am to 12pm; 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 10pm). So much so that she didn’t join us in a couple of ports. This gave us ample time to lounge around, check the 16 bars without having to worry about her. This was such a blessing and the team at adventure ocean where thorough professionals providing fun educational ways to keep the children engaged. The service also was really exceptional and personalised. We got the same table in the dining room. But also in Windjammer. The staff is from all over and friendly and ever willing to engage in conversations. The food was amazing all through and surprisingly we did not get bored although we didn’t do any of the speciality dining. The staff is particular about hiegene and everyone follows through with sanitised hands. No cases of Nora virus was reported on the ship which was the other thing we were worried about. The other impressive feat was the way a helicopter landed to fly someone out. It was just the most amazing sight. And the copter looked too large but we didn’t feel a thing when it landed or took off. And there wasn’t any fuss at all. Entertainment on the ship was also quite nice in the tropical theatre, in the centrum and the safari club. Some of the home grown productions are quite good. The team really makes an effort and it comes through. We didn’t do shore excursions with the exception of Russia for visa. In all other places we were offered a shuttle service into the city centre for 10 dollars. There was no hassle getting out or in whatsoever and no preference was given to people on the shore excursions as we had read. All in all without having to spend on any additionals the cruise turned out to be a lovely experience and we are considering more such cruises. We will in all probability sail on the royal Caribbean. The ship offers gorgeous views of the sea with glass everywhere. Read Less

My wife and I decided to go on the 7 Night Scandinavia And Russia Cruise. It was awesome!!! The ship, while a little on the dated side, was clean and the crew was fantastic. We had an Aft facing Cabin on Deck 8 and it was very nice. As ours was on a corner (8168), we had a little bigger balcony. There is plenty of storage in the cabin. Our TV had issues, but they worked to get it fixed quickly. The bathroom is small but bigger than I expected. We did "My Time" dining but only ate in the Reflection dining room on the Formal Nights and one breakfast. If you want to wear a tux, I recommend renting on from RC prior to the cruise. No need to pack one. The meals in the Reflection was very good. I think they could have added a little more variety, but what we had was very tasty. The service for dinners was fantastic. They even brought us out a special dessert for our anniversary!!!! The breakfast in the Reflection was not very good. They throw you at a table and the service was very, very slow. When we got our food it was not very warm. The rest of our dinners were in the Windjammer, which was very good as buffets go. My wife figured out that Room Service is very cheap ($9.50)!! We ended up doing Room Service for our breakfasts which helped on Excursion days. We spent quite a few evenings in the Pub. They had excellent service and one of my favorite beers. The singer most nights did requests and we did a lot of sing alongs with the rest of the audience. We did watch one show in the main theater. It was nice but not memorable. Excursions were very good. The only one that was disappointing was in Stockholm. Due to the drought they were having we could not go into the canals (not RC fault). So we just cruised around the main channel. The tour guide did a great job. We then were supposed to take a bus tour of old town, but due to construction, we ended up sitting in traffic. Very disappointed. The Tallinn Old Town and Beer tour is very good. They mark it as "Strenuous" but it is not for us mid 50 year olds. Saint Petersburg was very good. We did the Grand Petersburg and Hermitage. We were lucky as we were the second tour into the Hermitage that day. Saw a lot of the city and they take you shopping at a big tourist trap place. Prices were good though, but get in line early to pay and stand your ground. A lot of line cutting. Helsinki was also good. We did the Town Tour and Ice Bar. Both were great. All in all, if I had to do it over again, I would do Stockholm on our own but the others were good to be on a tour (it is required in Saint Petersburg unless you have a tourist visa). Getting on and off the boat was very easy. Embarkation Day, we had a very smooth experience, but don't expect your bag brought to your cabin. Ours were way down the corridor from our cabin. We had very little issues on Excursions days getting on and off the boat. We only had one long line and that was in Saint Petersburg. On our return to Copenhagen, things went so smoothly, we were off the boat and in a cab in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend having your bags handled going off the ship (unless you are traveling light). The elevators are packed so you have to lug everything down stairs. We only had to go from 8 to 4 to our waiting area and then down to two but it was still a workout lugging our small bags. I was very pleased with this cruise. We are going on a Christmas Cruise with RC on the Jewel of the Seas. We are looking forward to it. Read Less

My husband and I picked this cruise as a compromise for our honeymoon and it turned out absolutely amazing! We arrived in Copenhagen on Thursday afternoon and had Thursday, Friday and Saturday to explore which was probably the minimum amount of time I would suggest in Copenhagen. It's such a beautiful city with so much history. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza which is a quick trip from the airport and 5 minute walk from the metro station with easy access to the downtown area which was perfect for us. They also offer a shuttle to the cruise port for a reasonable fee. Embarkation would be the only really negative I have for this cruise. Royal Caribbean only offered priority boarding for Diamond members and above at this port, this was not advertised anywhere and in fact I had received an email 1 week prior to sailing confirming this benefit. My husband and I booked a spa appointment for the day we boarded the ship and arrived at the port 2 hours before the appointment thinking it would be more than enough time but due to the fact we had to board in the general line it took quite some time and we were delayed getting to our appointment. Once we got on the ship everything else was great! It was my first time on a smaller ship and I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Our cabin was ready promptly at 1pm so we were able to rush there to drop our stuff before heading to our spa appointment. Once we returned from that our luggage was waiting outside our room so we were able to shower before heading out to enjoy the set sail activities after the muster drill. The service aboard was great as with all the Royal cruises we've experienced. Everyone we encountered went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. It was our first experience with My Time Dining and we really enjoyed it. I had made our reservations about a week before we boarded the ship on the Cruise Planner, we did change our time one evening after we already boarded it and wasn't a problem. On the 2nd day we asked the host about getting a table along the window so we could enjoy the beautiful scenery while we dined. He was a little hesitant at first, but once we explained we absolutely didn't mind waiting until one opened up it wasn't a problem getting a table by the window every night. We never waited more than 15-20 minutes. All of the ports were absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Our first was Stavanger, which we chose to do the Pulpit Rock Hike. This was very difficult but extremely rewarding once you reached the top. My husband and I weren't show if Royal was being over careful by all the warnings about the strenuous nature of the hike but they weren't so I would definitely take caution booking this excursion if you're not prepared to hike up/down a mountain for at least 4 hours in all weather. The 2nd port was Bergen and it was probably our favorite port. We did a city tour and then our last stop was at the Ice Bar which was really neat to see. After this tour we had lots of time to explore the city on our own, grab lunch in the outdoor fish market and just enjoy the great weather we had! My suggestion for this port would be that you can easily do the Ice Bar on your own, it's a nice walk from the dock and you can enjoy the fish market on the way. We ended up not boarding the bus back to the dock and left from there on our own exploring. The 3rd port was Alesund. I would have to say this was our least favorite port which was a little sad since we had the longest time here. Our boating trip was canceled about a week before departure for an unknown reason. We booked the Sugar Top Hike last minute which was really neat and had beautiful views at the top once the weather cleared up a bit. Afterwards we had about 8 hours to explore the city. I'm not sure if we missed anything but not a lot of restaurants or places weren't open for some reason and since our excursion changed shortly before we departed we unfortunately didn't do a lot of research on what else there was to do. It was still beautiful and we enjoyed everything! The last port was Gerainger which is breathtaking!! I would highly suggest booking some sort of excursion or activity while in this port. It is a very small town and not much to do if you don't have anything planned. We booked the Storeseterfossen waterfall hike and Westeras Farm visit which was very enjoyable. I would also caution that this is not as leisurely of a hike as it was worded in the description from Royal Caribbean. There was quite a few people in our group that either didn't make it to the top or had some trouble. Getting off the ship was very easy for us!! We took advantage of the Crown and Anchor lounge to debark and walked off the ship and had our luggage within 10 minutes. I would highly suggest booking the ships transfers to the airport or making sure you have some sort of transportation from the cruise ship terminal in advance. The port is quite a distance from the city center and the taxi line was EXTREMELY long. We booked the ships transfers which was great. The only downfall is they dropped us off in the domestic terminal and we had to drag our luggage over to the international terminal. Overall I would suggest this cruise to anyone! The ports were amazing, the service aboard was amazing and it was the perfect mix of exploring when we in ports to having time to relax while aboard the ship. It was definitely a different vibe from the Caribbean cruises I've been on before but we really enjoyed it and already booked a Baltic cruise for next summer! Read Less

We chose this cruise with Royal Carribean because my sister and her family have cruises with Royal many times. From the moment we arrived on the ship until the day we disembarked 11 days later we were totally transformed from island travelers to Cruisers. There is nothing like it. The places you see in the world over the short 11 days wa what I really enjoyed the most. The staff , crew, all the food drinks and snacks we second to none. Lots of sun chairs to lay in all day and towels were also a plenty. One item They should look into is a better coffeeserved through ship except at CaffetudesCoffee shop. The expresso drinks were amazing but regular coffee could be better tasting . Otherwise we had amazing weather and are already talking about taking this trip with Royal again next March . We are transformed travellers from now on . Read Less

We've been on the Serenade several years ago on a Mediterranean cruise (R/T Barcelona with Cannes, Florence, Naples, Rome, Venice, Ravenna, and Dubrovnik as the ports ). The ship is just the right size for us. The dates and ports were good as there were two new ports (St. Croix and Martinique) and favorite old ports: St. Thomas, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. We also like the Solarium pool area, where we spent most of our on board time.. The dining in the Windjammer is great with the circular counters so you never are really standing on a long line. The Centrum was very popular and mostly extremely difficult to find seating. We often observed the Centrum activities from deck nine where we had our cabin. Wish that the Centrum was a bit larger with more seating on decks four and five. All in all a lovely ship and a great cruise. Read Less

This cruise seemed interesting as I have wanted to visit Halifax for years. Hoping to see fall color as well as interesting ports of call we chose this itinerary. We have sailed on Serenade of the Seas before and liked the layout and amenities the ship has to offer. Our cabin was kept spotless by our stateroom attendant and the Deck 8 location was ideal for us. Food at Windjammer has improved a lot since we last sailed on Serenade, dining room has gone down a notch or two, however. Shore excursions were all handled well and seemed to be a bargain. On the Acadia National Park excursion we had a lunch of lobster, mussels, potatoes, corn, bread and blueberry cake. All were yummy. It was great fun to explore the reversing rapids and the City Market at St John, New Brunswick. The thick and creamy seafood chowder was such a great addition to the tour. The last day on shore we took a tour called Best of Halifax which included a visit to the Citadel, the Museum of the Atlantic with a Titanic exhibit, a wonderful lobster roll lunch with great apple crisp and the beautiful lighthouse and postcard perfect village of Peggy's Cove. The cruise seemed to give me some bang for my buck. Such a wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer! Read Less

We had a wonderful time on this cruise. We did not participate in every event as we don’t like to be over programmed. So, here is what we did find: The food overall was very good. The Windjammer buffet restaurant was always busy for breakfast and on the day of the first shore excursion, there was a huge backup. Their food was good. The one day we tried Room Service was a travesty because everyone else tried it that day due to a 6:30 am shore excursion. However, we really enjoyed dinners in Reflections, the main dining room. The food was very tasty- not an unusual selection if that is important to you. Our waiter and the asst. waiter were very attentive and had a great sense of humor. We tried Giavannis (sp?). The quality of the food was not worth the extra price. However, we got a wider range of more expensive options at Giavannis. The last nights Chef’s dance was a riot. The entertainment was incredible. Topi, the cruise director, was extremely talented (comedien, dancer and singer). We would sign up for another cruise just based on his being there. The other entertainers were very talented and we enjoyed each show. We couldn’t stay awake for the late night entertainment each evening but the one we did attend was energetic, fun and humorous. There was a wide range of shipboard activities. We enjoyed the dancing lessons, the various contests and last night’s presentations. There was bingo, the marriage game, a few lectures, and more – you could have been busy from the time you got up until you go to sleep. We only went on 2 of the St. Petersburg shore excursions (see the end of this review). They were mediocre. Our goal was to explore the cities on our own and that worked for us. However, it does take more planning and the willingness to get lost. Read Less

We've chosen this cruise for the ports of call - Baltic cities, specially Saint Petersburg and we were limited with the departure dates. 7 Night Scandinavia and Russia cruise fitted perfectly and we were not sorry. We made perfect choice. The ship is not recent but you don't see this. She is elegant, clean, well equipped. The crew members were helpful, present but descreet. Food is excellent - choice and quality. We were having diners in the main dining room and Windhjamer caffe.Windjhamer caffe can get crowded for the breakfast when ship arrives early at the ports. We had a cabin with the balcony at the 7th deck. It was not very modern, but very specious, clean(twice a day - interesting folded towels every night - nice touch!!) and well equipped, bathroom with a shower as well. There was a wide choice of shore excursions, but we only took 1,5 day + half day excursion in Saint Petersburg and the local guide was excellent. The rest of the cities we explored on our own, since they were much smaller. Very nice first cruise experience that gave us envy to do it again in the very near future. Read Less

We had one day at sea and this was also perfect! Just a quick note about port of Rostock: this ship berths down in the industrial sector, not in Warnemunde. The taxis are scant and it could've been a long wait if not for the good luck of the three groups ahead of us not having any cash :) We later found out that there are a couple of bus stops near where the ship berthed, about a 5 minute walk to either one. We took a bus back from the train station (we went to Schwerin) and saved about 35 euros. The bus only runs about once an hour from the train station but the timing was right for us. The food was great in the Reflections Dining room. I've read some reviews that the RC food quality was slipping or some such nonsense but I heartily disagree! We also took the ship's Klaipeda walk/hike the Curonium Spit excursion and it was a great value and one of my favorite days. All other ports were done on our own. Read Less

We choose this route because we wanted to visit the baltic and this was a perfect experience. The entertainment is fantastic the musicians are really good (all of them), dining experience is fantastic the only problem is when you want to have dinner because there hours which can be very busy. We took the St Petersbourgh shore excursion due to problems with visa, but they are very expensive so we rather walk or take the bus. Cleaning in the Windjammer could be better during lunch time. Very nice service in board, the barman were attentive and fast, the pool is nice but full of kids so we end up in the solarium (no kids). The ports of call were fantastic, and they give you enough time to visit without any problem. The only problem I found from shore excursions is they are very slow as some people are always complaining they have to walk. Read Less

Great places visited, very nice service on board, excellent quality of food. 100% recommended. Clean cabin, Great Entertainment, High quality night shows. Nice Ship. On Shore excursion tours were all magnificent. Perhaps i´ve would have included another port to visit. What to get better: - Cabin window was smaller than the offered on reservation. - I´would´ve included complementary water for On Shore Excursion. - The Internet Speed connection was OK, but not great. Sometimes unavailable. Advise for the On Shore trail to the Pulpit Rock from Stavenger: This trail is hard for elderly people, and I believe it has to be strongly advise in advance. I saw people completely exhausted, two people injured (fell and hit on the face, one of them. The other fell and hit her waist against a rock), and there were few first aid assistance. Very nice trail, outstanding Sightseeing, but at least water & First-Aid assistance are advised. Otherwise, GREAT CRUISE Read Less

Wanted to see Baltic. This cruise did that very nicely. The Serenade still looks good and the design works well. Ship to get a refurb. soon to add some new paint and replace aging furniture. MDR was offered good food with great service. RCL tours were excellent. Room attendant and dining staff excellent. Diamond Lounge was overcrowded but staff there were great. Next Cruise was bad. Booked early and found prices dropped a lot later. Was told no dollars back but if I paid more I could upgrade. We learned that the upgrade took away our onboard credits. Won't book there again. Shows were very good. It was so cold (snow twice) that we never used the balcony. Tours in Russia were long walks but worth the effort. The ICBM site in Lithuania was a trip back in time. The history of the area remarkable when it comes from a local person. They saw war from Norway, Sweden, Czarist Russia, followed by Bolsheviks, then Nazi Germany, then more Russians followed by a devastating Soviet experience with collapse. Lots of poverty and excess but no real middle class. In Russia saw poverty and folks driving by in a new Lamborghini. Read Less

We chose this ship and cruise because of the prior experience and the personnel on the ship We were able to have the same waiters as on previous trips and many recognized us from our previous cruise. The entertainment was fantastic with a good variety. Our cabin well maintained and our steward "Sheredon" does an excellent job. Visit to the dining room surprised our prior waiters "Kevin & Max". Kevin & Osden were our waiters this time and what an nice asset to the cruise line industry. The Executive Chef :Benedict Capriata" stopped by to see how satisfied we were with the food provided. This does not normally happen and what a nice treat. The Head Waiter : Mihal Oprea is real people pleaser and always upbeat and friendly. In the Windjammer our waitress "Mengol Lee" made this restaurant a dining pleasure. Made friends with many of the staff and met fellow cruisers to vacation with. Read Less

This was my 10th Cruise and we decided on this one because there was 3 islands we have never been too. Serenade of the Seas is a smaller ship but very clean. All of the employees on the ship were friendly and helpful. The food in the windjammer & main dining room was fabulous. And we always found seats at the busiest time in the windjammer. If we had a question anywhere on the ship it would get answered. There was a lot of older people on scooters and they seemed to think they got around well in all areas of the ship. The only thing that I wish they could change up once in awhile is the merchandise on the ship. It is always the same items and the same sale prices on every cruise. Put out some different products and sales. I have been on other cruise lines but I find Royal Caribbean to be the best. Read Less

We loved the intimacy of Serenade having had several cruises on RCI's larger ships. This cruise made us Diamond so we certainly plan more. Found My Time Dining to be just our thing having always done fixed time dining in the past. Entertainment staff was one of the best led by Cruise Director Topi who we believe is our best experience of a cruise director yet. Loved the Centrum entertainment venue and found the Vintages on board to be even better than most. Staff there appreciated and knew wine better than any ship to date. Cruise director empowered his team effectively and more than we have seen in the past. As usual with RCI, never enough pool chairs and the usual chair hogs in Solarium and evening shows in the theater had more people saving 8-10 seats than we have had in the past. We ate at Izumi several times and thought it to be excellent. Loved the outdoor dining area in back of Windjammer. ' Read Less

We started our holidays 12 days earlier as we flew to Puerto Rico from Vancouver to enjoy 10 days of sun before boarding our ship. We had an awesome time in Puerto Rico but the highlight of this trip for me was the cruise that was waiting for us. We then flew from Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale the day before where we stayed at a boutique hotel in Fort Lauderdale called The Nobleton Hotel which was about 15 minutes taxi ride to the cruise terminal. We arrived at the terminal around 12:15 pm. The check in was pretty fast. We did not have to wait in line and it went very smooth. Once on the ship we went around familiarizing ourselves with the different decks to see where everything was. Our cabins were not ready until 1:30 pm so we decided to go to the Windjammer for some lunch. At 1:30 pm our cabins were ready so we headed that way and to our surprise found that our luggage was waiting for us right outside our cabins. That was a great bonus for us as we were able to organize ourselves and get ready in time for the sail away party. I chose this itinerary because I wanted to go to St. Lucia and some of the ABC Islands. I was not disappointed with my choice. We enjoyed every single island that we visited. In Antigua and St. Lucia we did shore excursions through Royal Caribbean and the rest of the islands we did on our own. With regards to food, I was not thrilled with the food at the Main Dinning Room. Some things were good and others were not good at all but our waiters Gabriel and Mara from Brazil were great. We ate there every night except for one night we went to Giovanni's and another night we did the Chef's Table. We had breakfast (except one morning where we went to the MDR but was not thrilled with it) and lunch (except one lunch that I went to the MDR, and tried their salad bar that they prepare in front of you) every day at the Windjammer and sat at the back overlooking the ocean. That was a very nice thing to do every day. We enjoyed the entertainment on board. We missed a couple of shows like the ventriloquist, because that day we did not feel like going to a show and also the Beatles as we were at the Chef’s Table that night. Most of the mornings when getting to port we will get up early and run to the Helipad where you can see as we approached the ports of call. That was a great experience to do every morning as you are standing on the helipad and the ship is slowly sailing to the ports. In Antigua, there was on the pier already a Holland America ship, the Rotterdam. In St. Lucia, there was one ship called Club Med 2. In Barbados, including our ship, there were a total of 6 ships. There was from Celebrity, the Eclipse; from P&O, the Britannia; from Seaborn, the Royal Clipper; from Oceania, the Regatta; plus a yacht that we couldn’t see which ship it was. In Grenada, at the old pier, the Sea Cloud II was there. And in Aruba, there was again the Britannia from P&O and from Thomson Cruises, the Tui Discovery. Regarding the bars, every time we wanted to go to the Schooner Bar it was like a freezer in there so we just did not have any drinks there. The same thing with the Safari Club, it was too cold. I understand it is hot outside, but that does not mean that you have to freeze while inside. We had a drink once at Vintages and the bartender was really nice. He provided us with some tapas at no charge to go with our drinks. We had a few drinks on Deck 4 by the Centrum, but forgot the name of that bar. The service was great. Also had a few drinks from the bars by the pool. When you tell them how you like your drinks (like not too sweet or more lemony) then you have a really nice drink. At Giovanni’s we had an excellent dinner there one night. The food was excellent and our waiter was really nice. There was a lot of food and every dish was delicious. We followed the waiter’s recommendations and we were not disappointed. We had some appetizers, as well as a caprese salad followed by some pastas (mushroom risotto and gorgonzola gnocchi. Sole fish and lamb chops. And of course we had to have tiramisu, cannoli and panna cotta. The Chef’s Table for me was the highlight with respect to food. We were greeted with a glass of champagne. Once everybody arrived (we were 10 people in total) we headed to the table. The chef explained to us, course by course, how he will make the dish, the waiter will bring our dish and then he will explain the wine that he was pairing it with. This was for all six dishes that we had. Six courses, six different kind of wine (full glasses). I think at the end of the night we needed somebody to take us to our cabins. Just kidding. Every penny was well worth it for this dinner. I definitely recommend it. Islands: In Antigua we did the Catamaran and Snorkel shore excursion through Royal Caribbean. The staff was really pleasant. It was not the best snorkel that you can find as not too many corals but there were plenty of fish. The rum punch was the best that I have had on all islands. After the excursion we took a taxi to a close by beach where we stayed for a couple of hours and arranged with the taxi driver to pick us up and he did. We enjoyed this island. In St. Lucia we also did the excursion through Royal Caribbean. We did the Catamaran view of the Pitons with snorkel. This excursion was in the afternoon, so in the morning we hire a taxi that took us around some parts of the island. Very beautiful. I was impressed with the luscious vegetation and our driver was really nice. The shore excursion was nice. It is just incredible to see the Pitons from the ocean. The view is quite something. The snorkel was OK, just off the beach. On the way back we were served some punch but this was not as good as in Antigua as it was too sweet. We were listening to Christmas carols on the boat with a Reggae style. Quite funny. I will definitely come back to this island. We didn’t do a shore excursion in Barbados through RCI. Instead we hired a taxi for over 3 hours and he took us around the island. He was great. We told him more or less what we wanted to see and he took us there. We negotiated a good price and were very happy with what he showed us. He then dropped us at a beach close to the terminal and he picked us later after one and a half hours. Grenada was the island that we liked the most. We hired a taxi and he took us to several areas of the island. We were very impressed with the beauty of this island as we really did not do our research here and it was quite beautiful. Our driver was very knowledgeable and very pleasant. He then dropped us by the old pier as we wanted to walk through some of the streets of Grenada. We will definitely come back to this island as well for sure. In Bonaire we didn’t do much. We just took a taxi to a beach and stayed there all day. We took with us our snorkeling gear as we had heard there was good snorkel there. We saw lots of fish. We took a taxi back to the pier and walked around looking at some of the shops. In Aruba we took a public bus to Fisherman’s Hut where my DH was able to windsurf. He was very happy about this, as he has not been able to snorkel for a few years. After he finished windsurfing we walked towards the hotels and resorts to find a beach were we could find some facilities, like food, water and bathrooms. After several hours we took the bus back to the Pier where we walked around the many stores around the area. We would want to come back to this island and stay at the resorts with all the kids and grandkids. The last day at sea we did the “All Access Tour”. That was lots of fun. We were taken to the galley, back stage and the bridge among other areas. For me, as a foodie, it was impressive to see the kitchen where they make all the food for the different specialty restaurants and the Windjammer and the MDR. Impressive. The bridge was quite something, being able to talk to the Captain and their second in command where they explained us everything. We found it quite interesting. My overall experience was fantastic. We would definitely come back to this ship. We didn’t feel that the ship was old or anything like that. We saw that it was maintained all the time. Cleaning and painting whenever they could. We previously sailed on Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Sea & had an fantastic cruise, so we tried a sister ship Serenade of the Seas. Our travel plans were made with 2 other couples & it was truly a delightful trip. The food was excellent, service in the dining room past our expectations with waiters Jesuno Max Fernandes & Kevin Bras were exceptional & treated us like royalty. The dining in the Windjammer restaurant was strictly a buffet experience with plenty to eat. The morning breakfast offered a variety of fruits, breads, rolls & fresh sticky buns (Yummy), made to order omelets, pancakes, waffles & eggs any way you liked. There was also smoked fish, bagels, cream cheese & fresh smoked salmon for your sampling. A variety to make everyone happy. The lunch menu was filled with delicious pastries & deserts as well as many fine warm meals to choose from. Always fresh coffee & drinks to top the meal off. Plenty of great night shows to attend, dancing, music & a full days agenda of activities to keep one busy. The stops at the ports of which were 5 gave us plenty of time to shop & sight see via a guide we found on shore. Taking a private tour was more to our liking as we could select where we wanted to go & bargain on the prices. Getting on & off the ship was made very easy with all the assistance from the crews. We enjoyed the trip so much, when we got home 4 of us booked for next March on the same ship for an 11 day cruise. Can hardly wait for this year to roll around. Read Less

We are Diamond plus and love RCCL and were beyond excited for this cruise so you can imagine my disappointment when we go on board with our best friends and our rooms were not connected by room or by balcony as promised when we booked on our kart cruise on Legend of the seas March 2015 . It makes the trip so much more enjoyable to be connected for early breakfast or late night snack and chats . When we went to the main desk we were shocked to she at least 4 other people in the same position and some with children . I will say Daniela at the front desk was top notch in calming everyone down and trying her very best to make everyone feel heard. I train for 5 star customer service and she was amazing. When we got to her she still was smiling and said she would note it in the computer and for us to contact them when we return . See also assisted me in getting my phone set up for Wifi which I must say was the best I have ever had on any ship !! Now for the sad part while checking in we were in line next to 3 people all coughing deep lung coughs and since I'm in the medical field I knew this was not good and I was disappointed that the check in person did no question them . Clearly they lied on the health forms and not once did any of them cover their mouth. We you guessed it on the 4th day I woke up to horrendous chest and lung pain and coughing I felt so bad and weak I went down to the medical clinic , it took me 20 min to walk there I was so weak and it was hard to breath I knew I had no fever and since I had flu and pneumonia vaccine I most likely had bronchitis or walking pneumonia . The Doctor $135 , she was wonderful tested me for flu and said my glands in my throat were swollen and I definitely had lung infection. I knew at that point for me the trip was over she gave me antibiotics and cough $129 medication ( thank god we always purchase trip insurance to get reimbursed ) I had already purchased in the ship store Nightquil for $18 a bottle which is so ridiculous overpriced fro $6.50 in Walgreens . I was bedridden for 5 days and came out to the pool on the 10 day which was cloudy for a while but it was too windy . Now my amazing room attendant 9652 Made pronounced Madee was my angel everyday he would come and bring me water ice three times a day he gave me his number and said I could call anytime he would come . He cared for me like a son would take care of his mother including having chicken soup brought to me specially from the kitchen . When I could get out of bed he would help me on the balcony for some fresh air while he changed the linens because I was so worried my husband would get it . I did get a had full of masks from the clinic to avoid spreading my germs and insisted Made worn one in my room. I forced my husband and friends to get off the ship to enjoy their cruise and to stay away from me . I did get in one nights of chops one night in the dining room table Oscar Bautista 456 who was so amazing in preparing a plate for my husband to bring me each night that included soup. I tried room service twice and never got what I ordered and never warm one day my husband ordered a steak sandwich and I got a slab of steak cold cheese not melted on half of a roll I called and said I ordered a sandwich and there is only one piece of bred and the guy said yes it an open face sandwich and I said that's not the description and he laughed and said yeah I know ! So I never ordered again. As for the Islands I only got to go to Aruba which is lovely and we rented a cabana for the day $300 My husband said Grenada was the poorest island he ever saw and he hoped thru ships coming it would help the residents who clearly are very poor. St Lucia is one of our favorite places and he went to the pitons and had lunch at a Jade Mountain resort hotel up in the mountains he said while the food was fair it was very overpriced $300 for 4 people with tip they ate noting special had one beer each. We did take in a movie on first night in the movie theater which the seats need to be redone or re padded all of us had to leave half way through and many had left before us . The rest of the ship was very nice and cozy the centrum is the smallest I have ever seen on a RCCL ship but it was nice to sit and hear music at night and the main band was awesome really I would hire them in a minute for any function!! The casino I went to 3 times and sadly the smoke is awful and the automatic spray to clear the air is worse people don't respect smoking rules . The machines are way outdated and so many were broke I really think the casino needs to be updated soon most people walked in and walked out . My friend who loves penny machines and would spend all night there if she could went a few times and said its not worth her money and one night she went at 10:30 and she and two other people were the only ones. Lol I was able to get in 2 days at the pool and while people tried to hog chairs as soon as you told an attendant no one was there for 1/2 hour they would clear off their items . Everyone on the ship staff wise was fantastic and helpful and I think that's why we have made them out got too cruise line but I will say we went to book another cruise the last day and unfortunately we got Lorna who apparently doesn't really like her job . She was so rude to the people before us the got up and left and while we were sitting a gentlemen whispered in my ear she was the worst and they walked away two days prior and were now back to see someone else . I was very fatigue from being sick and really just wanted to make sure we got connecting rooms . At one point I had asked her to please repeat what she said because she was facing away when she was talking looking at her computer and she looked at me with an annoyed look and mouthed the words slowly like I was deaf . My husband was so shocked he said to her that's uncalled for and she blew him off . We finished booking to get it over with and when we got up to leave she never even say thank you good bye . While we were getting hot tea for me at the cafe behind the booking center one of her fellow booking rep came up to us and said thank you for booking and hoped I felt better since my husband had told her the day before I had been sick , when I said I had never seen a rude employee on RCCL ever and that I was going to write to to the home office about her she said she was sorry . So stay away from Lorna . The windjammer food was fantastic and I must say the burgers beef and chicken were the best I have ever had and the friendship fries are perfect . While I feel cheated I know my husband and our friends had a great time and mentioned the chefs table was great as always and the mystery dinner was fun however they wished they were not put with big table of 12 because the large group excluded them and they felt left out also despite being in Giovanni's the food was awful and cold . So I hope this helped and always buy trip insurance !!!! Getting off was as usual very slow for no reason or fault of RCCL its customs and understaffed we waited 40 minutes in line and honestly for me so fatigued and I had trouble breathing was wheezing it felt like 2 hours . Happy to say I'm home two weeks now and even though I had to go back to a doctor here and get stronger antibiotics and breathing treatment I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia but I finally feel some what normal but still coughing. I forgot to mention while I was in the medical clinic the 6 day to get my blood pressure checked there was 4 staff with same symptoms and at least 6 guests with same symptoms and I was surprised not one hand sanitizer anywhere around clinic lol everywhere on the ship but the one place they really need it and not there? We had been on the Serenade 3 times before, all out of New Orleans and we loved the ship, the restaurants and the crew. Mario in the Concierge Lounge was the best concierge we ever dealt with and we looked forward to seeing him again. We did a back to back, starting on March 28th for 11 days and then a 10 day cruise starting on April 8th. Sadly for us Mario wasn't on the first leg, he was on vacation, but happily he was on the second leg and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing him again. Surprising to us he was in the Diamond Lounge and said that RCCL was establishing a rotation policy between the Concierge and the Diamond Club. One of the highlights for us was the server in the Concierge Lounge, Al from Albania, a charming and personable young man who had all the ladies hugging him nightly. The service throughout the ship was fantastic, Andrea at the reception in Chop's, Roberto and Ursula in Giovanni's, Jayson and Ronald in the Schooner Bar and Ivula in the main dining room ( we did My Time Dining) - all excellent. In Izumi's we had Isabelle as a server whom we had befriended on our earlier cruises and she was as gracious and efficient as ever. Benta at Chef's table was his wonderful self, serving very nice wines with the food. The food at this Chef's Table was good but not as great as on other RCCL ships. They served a split pea soup that was over salted and few of us could eat more than a bite or two. The best Chef's table we have experienced was on the Quantum. The bands on board were terrific, especially Pulse, a group of 4 young men who could play anything. The other band was a young man and young woman from Barbados who were also excellent. We only did two excursions, snorkeling in Tortola and a tour of Dominica, both very nice. On the other port days we shopped and took a walk around the town and then back to the ship for some pool time. We love being on the ship during port days, very quiet and relaxing. My only complaint is concerning the upkeep of the ship. The wooden rail around the pool area on the 12th deck badly needed to be re-stained. In our cabin the small rails in the BR side mirror cabinet were loose from the wall and there was a lot of wear and tear on the tile floors in our bathroom. Nothing major but yet surprising to us as RCCL is usually out their painting and staining and maintaining all the time. This was our 47th cruise, most on RCCL and Celebrity and overall I'd rate it excellent due to the great service on board. Read Less

This is only our second cruise but were not disappointed. Having read some of the earlier reviews I was slightly apprehensive. I have come to realise that as a contributor on Trip Advisor that some people only seem to use reviews to highlight the negative. The ship was smaller than the Equinox we sailed on last time but was equally attractive. It is true that there are some signs of wear an tear but I would never describe anything as tatty. All the public areas are well kept and the Schooner Bar and Safari lounge have lots of character. The atrium is stunning! Our room was lovely, no complaints and our steward kept it very clean. We thought the food was excellent throughout the cruise. One thing we did miss from the Equinox was home made scones every day! Some of the acts in the theatre were very good, others average. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a great time and will travel with RC again at some time in the future Read Less
