We've been cruising with Disney before RC, and even considering the fact that Disney is much more expensive, it left us with a feeling that it was much better, especially in the food, entertainment, and general feel ( there were 2 big spots of rust in the indoor pool on Serenade). Even the free food court (near the pools) in the Disney Dream was much better. What I found most irritating the design of the beds, that for some reason are half arched toward their end, so if you are a tall person like myself ( 1.92 meters) , if you sleep with legs stretched, you ankles will be outside the bed. I was told it is the same in all RC ships, and it was not comfortable at all. The RC app is a very good idea - too bad it doesn't always work in the real world and needed many restarts during the day. We tried specialty drinks ( 1 coffee, 1 alcoholic and one mocktail) , the mocktail was good but the other terrible especially for the price of 12$ before 18% tip. Quality of food in main dining room - 7/10 Main dining room service 10/10 Quality of food in Windjammer (buffet) 7/10 Service at Windjammer 9/10 The specialty restaurants (extra charge) Chops Grille (American, Meat) Giovanni's Table (Italian) 10/10 If you get a discount, you should try these. The food is noticeably better than in the main dining hall. Breakfast in Windjammer - tends to be very very busy, and it takes some times to find a place to seat. Guest services staff 10/10 Service was terrific! All staff members tried to help and find solutions, smiling, positive. Service - We got Alemao and Dehiby as waiters in the main dining hall, and Ikomang as room attendant. They were all excellent 10/10 and we gave them an extra tip. Staterooms - very clean, but design feels outdated (and uncomfortable as mentioned) Entertainment - 8/10 Daytime Activities (Rock Climbing Wall, Mini Golf, Dance Classes, Pool Side Events, Contests, Enrichment Classes, Lectures, etc.) 7/10 Arcade - very small arcade, with around 20 machines. It was deserted when I visited it during rainy days, and it was July (many kids on board) General : * I wish they would state the names of the cruise piers in each destination in advance, as it might lead to confusion when you tour by yourself. * The cruise felt like it was best for the adult crowd, less for families with children. *Embarkation - Swift and easy. Leaving the ship on disembarkation was also a very fast process, while in Disney it took a long while. *Duty free or not, the shops on the ship changes the stock everyday, but the prices are pretty expensive. I saw there a Russian chocolate they sold for 7 Euros, found it was sold for 2 Euros in St.Petersburg. * The Itinerary is pretty good, since the cruise began and ended in Stockholm and that enabled us to visit the city for a total of 5 days. The stops in Tallinn, Visby and Helsinki were too short (last boarding time 15:30 to 17:00), but those city are much less to offer than Stockholm. St.Petersburg is a marvel - try to book a cruise that docks there at least 1 night (equals 2 days in the destination). Read Less

Picked this cruise on Vision of the Seas for the destinations that we had not been to before. Really enjoyed Barbados, Grenada and especially Antigua. Did not enjoy Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and St. Lucia as much, but were a nice experience to visit once. We took three land excursions and also three sea excursions. Really enjoyed the sea excursions (some through Royal and some outside companies. Fun time, weather was beautiful and the overall experience was as expected. Chops dining was very good service and excellent food. Show quality was not bad, and singers and dancers were very talented. The entertainment was good for he size of the ship (Vision of the Seas) and kept us entertained throughout the trip. Room attendant did an excellent job, and was very stealthy about room cleanings, but was available when we needed him. We have traveled Royal many times, and this was a nice trip on a medium size ship. Read Less

My wife and I get to cruise once or twice per year, it is our light at the end of the tunnel. We love everything about cruising and this trip did not disappoint...mostly. Let's get the bad out of the way, this was the worst entertainment staff we have ever sailed with. They were professional, courteous and pleasant but man were they boring. Worse was the cruise staffed performers, they had on excellent singer we wished they would have featured more. The other singers and dancers were like a really bad high school production. The costumes were cheap and made at times little sense and the choreography very blah. That being said the rest of the entertainment was fantastic, every day and night the entertainment was great from the Ship's orchestra to the comics to the solo bar artists the Caribbean pool duo. But the stars of the ship was a pop band from Mexico called Switched On. They had incredible range and great charisma, they had everybody rocking in a very good way. Serenade is an older ship but incredibly well maintained. We love her size, because it feels more quaint, easy to figure out and you see the same crew often which breeds comfortable familiarity. We also don't love a tender process and didn't have to do any on this cruise. Getting ashore and back on was efficient and painless. Windjammer is where we did most breakfasts and lunches at it had great diversity of choices we have come to expect. I like the Indian fare and the Omelet Station is great, they have it down to a science. Main dining room Reflections is just fine for us and the My Time Dining. We were seated with Waiter and Assistant waiter Sinaga and Ian. Find these two, Sinaga is hard working sincere and does fantastic close up magic, Ian is equally hardworking, has a mischievous glint in his eye and is delightfully funny. The Itinerary was fantastic; St. Thomas-We have been to this beautiful Island a few times so we opted to take the ship excursion to St. John Trunk Bay and it was great. A fun Island Girl Ferry over and back with a friendly crew, then a short bus ride.Good snorkeling was included for novices in crystal waters and a gorgeous beach. really nice facilities with food and drink available for purchase. St Croix- Cruise excursion to the Whim Estate, an old sugar plantation with cultural and historical guides. Then to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens a very nice walk with an informed guide, took some pics for ideas in my Florida garden. Then to the Captain Morgan distillery because Cruzan was closed. This part of the tour was mostly sales, however the staff were amazingly friendly and the rum tasting...well it was an intoxicating venture and the gift/liquer store prices were very good. Antigua- Ship excursion and short bus trip to Ffryes Beach, again crystal clear water and beautiful beach. Some tent shops with very polite salespeople and not pushy at all. Ffryes Beach Bar/ Dennis Restaurant where two drinks and a very tasty lunch was provided. St. Kitts- Research told me to pick a tour once disembarked, and it was spot on. Look for All Weather Tours run by Franklin, it is all you need to do. 30 years on the police force and corrections now turned to tour guide. $20 a piece gets you a comfortable open air, narrated bus ride by someone in love with his country and impassioned to share it. The tour hits all the highlights except the fort. He also carries a bar and mixes some mean cocktails. If you think you can hang ask for the Ting with a Sting" or his delicious "All Weather Rum Punch", just know your limits. Next time we go we will book him again, it was that much fun. Our favorite stop on this itinerary by far. St. Maarten- Ship excursion 6 Jeeps with walkie-talkie narration. a Good guide who was able to keep us together and handled some adversity very well. You have to drive aggressively which was a blast but one of our jeeps had an incident with a tourist's vehicle in which the driver who was to drive to drunk. This was our least favorite destination, it is crowded, not very friendly and ridiculously expensive. Not a fan of either side of the Island. Read Less

Balcony, large with good view. Midship, 9610. This is our first 11 night cruise. It's also the smallest ship we've cruised on. It's also our first time back on Royal Caribbean. The embarkation was surprisingly smooth and fast! RC has improved! Thankfully! Their online presence is improved greatly but still needs work! Ship has Has a small town feel. Fewer people. Less crowds. And less to do. Never much problem finding a seat for anything. My only complaint about RC is their annoying policy of removing reserved chairs. Got up at 6 am to get the seat we wanted. Ate breakfast and came back. No problem. Then it stormed. We left our blankets and went to Next Cruise to reserve our next trip. Came back and all our stuff was moved and a very proud new owner was in our place. Needless to say, I was not happy. Hate this policy especially on such a small ship. Understandably on a larger ship but not this one. The ship is notably dated and slightly dirty but acceptable. It's due for updating for sure. The beds are hard. Yet, I asked for two toppers which helped greatly. I hate RC tube showers. However, the water pressure is great. The gym is good. The thermal suite was not in good repair. I eat a strict keto diet. It was sufficient. Had one specialty dinner and that was amazing. Overall, at 56 and 48 yrs of age, we found we were among the younger guests. Hardly any 18 and younger. Nice cruise. Already booked a bigger ship for next year, same length. Read Less

While the food was just average, almost everything else about this cruise was very good to excellent. The crew was friendly and efficient and the ports were very good. Boarding and disembarkation was very smoothly. We used My Time Dining which went smoothly. Our regular waiters were good, Viktoriia and Maynard. Contrary to other reviews, we found the ship to be very clean and well maintained. It is an older ship, but we found it well cared for. The ports were interesting, particularly Curacao. The one exception is Bonaire, which has little of interest unless you like diving or snorkeling. We understand for other cruisers that the specialty dining rooms were okay, but not spectacular. The food in the main cafe, Windjammer, was quite repetitive. (By the way, the Indian dishes were weak even though we tasted all of them provided on a daily basis.) The dinners in the dining room were generally fine, but it turned out to be virtually impossible to get a truly rare steak. The evening bars were well done. Both comedians and the Motown review were very good, but the four regular production singers were weak. The best feature overall was the friendliness and efficiency of the crew. We found most of our fellow cruisers to be extremely open and friendly. Read Less

Chose this cruise for 4 reasons. One a Royal Caribbean ship we have not cruised on, itineraries, length of cruise and a super, super low price. What a great choice. looking for water slides etc. Not on this ship. Well so far a total of 66 cruises under our belt now and this one was one of the very best. Tie with the Harmony of the Seas. Totally two different ships but our two best picks. Only a few negatives and so many positives. This will be a long review. I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience. The ship, older but beautiful. Like a ship should be. Decorated heavily with nautical décor. So much wood and planks. So beautiful. Super comfortable and cozy. A nice warm feeling. Not just a floating shiny piece of steel. Because of it being an older ship, there are signs of wear. Totally understandable. However, they keep it up and looking very nice. Exceptional had cleaning everywhere. They also wipe down all the railings with disinfectant several times a day. Our Ocean view state room. Large port hole and beautiful décor also. Small but very comfortable. We no longer dine in the dining room. Such a waste of time. So we will talk about the buffet in the WindJammer. I cannot describe how delicious everything was every day, no exceptions. Unbelievable. The temperature of the food was always perfect. Service was tops. Breakfast, lunch and dinner had such a wide variety of food. Out of all the ships this one by far had the very best pizza. Made like it is in a Pizza shop. Not in an automated machine. In a Pizza oven. Always three different kinds and always so very hot and tasty. Like hand tossed. Never burnt or under baked. Always super fresh and stringy cheese. Yum! If you like a certain food, I bet they have it. I love mashed potatoes and on carnival, you will be lucky to get them once on a cruise. On RCCL every day lunch and dinner. happy me! The burgers for dinner were hand made, the fries, always perfect and always very hot. I could do 1000 words on just the food. Entertainment was tops. Headliners, not just singers and dancers. Eight piece orchestra. They were awesome. Lead singer from the Jersey Boys. Awesome performance. Music everywhere and all different. Getting off of the ship was like normal. However it was handled with precision and fast. As for the crew members. The ALL were so wonderful. Made you feel like you were part of the crew. They get along so well, laughed and joked around with one another. Talking to many, they ALL indicated they were like family and all had good times together. It shows, always a smile and big hello. Asking them if they wanted to do another contract on this ship. All said definitely. So if you are considering a cruise on the RCCL Serenade of the Seas. Totally recommend it. Not much for children on this ship. No water slides, but they do have a rock climbing wall. OK it can’t be perfect, can it. Right, it is not. But it is close. Only one recommendation. The soft serve machines. They have four of them, only one or two are ever used. They only have them operating during lunch and dinner hours. I wish they had one where the drinks are open 24/7 till at least midnight. Carnival 24/7. Nice to have a soft serve late in the evening or before retiring for the night. I have two negatives. One is the Bingo. Lowest cost is $29 you get three cards for three games, and one crack and peal. The top is $69 you get the automatic 32 card iPad and 6 cards and two crack and peal. The payout is super low. $100+ game one to $300+ for the top sometimes even lower. No different if a lot of players are there. If you are lucky to win, you hope you are the only winner. The very last game was for a free cruise. I can see paying more for that one. Not the others. They are a rip off for sure. Now for the biggest disappointment. That was the specialty steak house. DO NOT GO!! Do not waste your money unless you just want to get waited on. We waited over 45 minutes to get our steaks and only 8 people were in the steak house. All of steaks are terrible and a big rip off. The steaks in the WindJammer are far better. Guessing on the average of the cruisers I would say 60ish So I will close by saying. Have fun cruising. Totally recommend the Serenade of the Seas for an enjoyable, relaxing, wonderful cruise experience. Read Less

We chose this itinerary because of the ports, and were excited to try Royal Caribbean again after quite a few years. Serenade of the seas was outdated, boring, lack of good entertainment and activities. Food in the the Windjammer was terrible. Main dining room was mediocre at best, the waitstaff was excellent though, all the crew were excellent, no complaints on that aspect. No Caribbean music at the pool, they played 70's and 80's music the whole cruise. Didn't even feel like we were on a Caribbean cruise! Movies on the big screen were hard to watch with all the black spots/bad pixels. Who wants to watch red bull advertising on a movie screen by the pool! come on we are in the Caribbean, that's all they ever played during the day. No poolside activities worth anything, come on a belly flop and a sexy man contest on an 11 day cruise....boring. I guess if your over 65 this cruise is for you, most guests were geriatric. Sorry to say but it's the truth. Room was okay, our room Stewart was very nice and helpful. Shore excursions were over priced and didn't deliver(Picture Aruba and sunset cruise in Curacao...don't waste your money) Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise because of its 10 night duration, the itinerary, and the price. The pros: marvelous service throughout the ship, plenty of chairs to sit in the sun or the shade, very relaxed atmosphere, great itinerary, amazing aft balcony, easy embarkation. The cons: entertainment was lacking, food was hit or miss. The ship is not a new glitzy number, but was welcoming and fit like an comfortable old shoe. It was easy to get around, easy to learn the layout. In the center was, of course, the Centrum, where there was music or other entertainment featured most of the time. Speaking of entertainment, there was no pool band due to a last minute family issue for one of the musicians, and this was a glaring miss. In addition, there really was only one big production show, as the new singers and dancers arrived later in the cruise. They actually were quite good. We were introduced to the Royal Quest, and it was a ball! There were a lot of "loyal to Royal" folks on this cruise, and I think it added to the more relaxed tone on the ship. We cruise many lines, but it is always interesting to hear what other cruisers have to say. We would happily sail on this ship again, Read Less

First off let me say we have cruised over 35 times with different cruise lines. Royal Caribbean has always been our favorite though and they did not disappoint this time. We are Diamond Members with RC so it takes a lot to impress us. From the food, to the service to the entertainment everything met or exceeded our expectations. This was a 10 day cruise that left from Ft. Lauderdale and visited St. Thomas, St. Croix, Antiqua, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. We have visited all the islands several times so we didn't do anything special in any of them. If you have never been though St. Thomas and St. Maarten are your shopping ports. There is not a whole lot in St. Croix or St. Kitts to see so we just got off and walked around some before heading back to the ship for lunch. In Antigua we did share a cab with 4 other people and went to a beautiful beach where we spent about 3 hours. The cab was only $6 a person round trip. Only pay for one way though to make certain they come back to get you. For an additional $20 we got a beach umbrella and 2 chairs. I believe the same tour off the ship was $56 a person. If you want a close and easy beach in St. Maarten just take the water taxi into town $7 round trip and you will see the beach chairs and umbrellas right where you get off the ferry. Most places were charging $20 - $25 for an umbrella, 2 chairs, and a couple of drinks. We thought it was a good deal. St. Maarten has many other beautiful beaches though as well, but those you will need to take a taxi to or a tour. This was nice that it was right close to the main street shopping and then you could sit and relax and just enjoy the view. One thing we really enjoyed about the Serenade was that it had an actual Movie Theater and each day it showed a new movie several times so you had options on when to go see it. We are not sun worshipers so it was nice to have something to do in the afternoon beside sitting by the pool. All the movies were current as well. We were in a standard inside cabin. There was lots of storage space. I do always take extra plastic hangers with us. There are never enough in any cabin we have ever stayed in. We did have to tape a towel over the air vent. It blew directly across our bed and we knew we would not be able to sleep with cold air blowing on us so we taped a towel over it and the air flowed down the wall instead and it worked perfectly. We will carry a roll of duct tape with us whenever we travel in the future. We prefer Main dining so we eat with the same people every night. We had great dinner partners and really enjoyed our time with them. A table of 6 is perfect for conversation. There was not one item we ordered that we did not like or had to ask the waiter to get us something else. Everything was delicious. We had only one very small complaint. That being, in the past grilled salmon was offered every night as an alternative along with strip steak and chicken breast. On this cruise instead of salmon they offered a fish of the day. We are not big fish eaters, but do like salmon so that was a little disappointment but again so minor it is hardly worth mentioning. Before sailing though we did book the 3 night Specialty Dinner package for $60 a person. This was a bargain. If you get an e-mail beforehand and this is offered take advantage of it. On ship it was $70. One night at Chop's Grill is $39. We ate one night at Giovanni's and 2 nights at Chop's Grill. Both restaurants are excellent. The filet is top notch and the service is outstanding. Each waiter only services 2 tables so you wait for nothing. Even though we enjoyed everything in the main dining room, as well as, our dinner partners it was nice to have an alternative for those nights. Especially with it being a 10 day cruise. The Diamond Lounge is small and since almost a third of the people on-board were Diamond, Diamond Plus or Pinnacle Members getting a seat in the lounge was difficult so we would just go to the Centrum area and get our drinks before dinner and listen to music there. Bar service in general was more of a walk-up service than waiters coming to you. We found this to be true pretty much everywhere on the ship. Again for us, no problem, because we are not big drinkers. We prefer water and iced tea which we would get from the Windjammer or Park Cafe in the Solarium. Another thing we liked was that the Centrum area was not excessively loud. We were on a Celebrity ship last Spring that had a similar layout as this ship and we could not stay in the Centrum area because there was just too much noise. Again, we have taken a lot of cruises so we have a lot to compare to and we don't always give a ship 10's across the board, but this one we did. Read Less

Wanted to return to Bermuda (7-nights), love the repo (12 nights), and love the itinerary for the 10-night at the end. From Day 1 we felt that all crew provided beyond exceptional service! Everywhere on the ship we noted that Officers not only supervised service, but participated in every aspect in every location. Crew members were always cheerful, many got to know us over the 30 days we were on board. Dining: First, we must compliment Dining Sevices for excellent management and organization of My Time Dining! We have experienced waits on other ships, but Serenade has this well managed. Our Head Waiter, Bassem Romdhane, is the best we have ever met. He personally ensured adherence to a milk allergy menu, even serving some courses himself. On discovering my love of tofu and stir fry dishes, he made that available any time. Also, we were greeted at the DR door each evening by Ayessa Ertugrul, Training Manager, as if she were waiting just for us! She always knew if our table was ready. We felt like king and queen during the entire trip! Concierge Lounge: A huge shout-out to our favorite Concierge Manager, Mario Abba Reyes! He is hands-down the best in the RCCL fleet! We actually book some cruises just to follow Mario, lol! Cabins: Unfortunately, we booked the B2B2B piecemeal, so were unable to get the same cabin for all. All were Spacious Ocean View (2B - 9078, 1104, and 9658) with balconies. We did feel that the decor is becoming a bit ‘tired’ but sheers had been replaced with new on balcony doors and Rooms were clean and well maintained. Cabin Attendants were wonderful and immediately addressed any issues we brought up. Not sure what happened for another reviewer who had mud on their balcony, but we found Attendants cleaning the balconies and outdoor furniture every day! Also, the Attendants moved our belongings for us each move, so no worrying about strangers handling things. Other: We very much enjoyed the musical talent of Damian Joyce in the Pub! Bar service was great there, as well, thanks to bar staff, Itupu, and bartender, Ian. We are not much for the theater entertainment, so cannot comment on that. Centrum duo was great, too. Excursions: We have been to these islands many times so only did a few. On Bermuda we did a private tour with Byways Tours and highly recommend. We love Ffryes Beach and lunch on Antigua. The Beach Rendezvous on St. Maartens was lovely despite some rain - probably the best shrimp sandwich I have ever had at Kim Sha Beach. Am likely forgetting something, but overall we have a wonderful month on Serenade! Can’t wait to sail with her and this amazing crew in April! Read Less

We selected this cruise for the exciting ports. The ports were incredible and memorable. But what was an unexpected surprise was how much fun we had on the ship. The ship is incredibly clean. I know this ship is older, but I found it in incredible condition. I have to give credit to the dining areas. How they are able to feed that many people and keep things so fresh and clean is truly a feat. I have been on a more expensive cruise and I did not care for the food. The food on this cruise was very very good. Truly. My particular mother in law said she never tried anything that she didn’t like. We didn’t go to any shows but I enjoyed the entertainment on board. We have a 7 year old son and the kids club was a complete success. I must pay special mention to our cabin steward. JOHNATHAN. He was so kind and made our cabins so fresh. Also a special note about MARK who I did arts and crafts with. Also the bar tenders were very nice. Special mention to Vortex and the schooner bar. Read Less

We chose the serenade because of the great destinations and with a 7 year old girl it felt like a convenient way to get around and see Scandinavia and Russia. Having said that we were very conscious that the ship itself was fairly old and small and we’d read reviews about everything that has gone wrong from embarkation to food to the service. But we were so pleasantly surprised right through the programme. Getting on the ship was an absolute breeze. We were taken into lunch at the Windjammer and by the time we’d finished the rooms were ready. The rooms also was just about right and clean with a cozy balcony. It was serviced twice a day with my child’s bunker bed put down during the evening turn down service. Our daughter absolutely loved the kids club activities in the adventure ocean club (9 am to 12pm; 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 10pm). So much so that she didn’t join us in a couple of ports. This gave us ample time to lounge around, check the 16 bars without having to worry about her. This was such a blessing and the team at adventure ocean where thorough professionals providing fun educational ways to keep the children engaged. The service also was really exceptional and personalised. We got the same table in the dining room. But also in Windjammer. The staff is from all over and friendly and ever willing to engage in conversations. The food was amazing all through and surprisingly we did not get bored although we didn’t do any of the speciality dining. The staff is particular about hiegene and everyone follows through with sanitised hands. No cases of Nora virus was reported on the ship which was the other thing we were worried about. The other impressive feat was the way a helicopter landed to fly someone out. It was just the most amazing sight. And the copter looked too large but we didn’t feel a thing when it landed or took off. And there wasn’t any fuss at all. Entertainment on the ship was also quite nice in the tropical theatre, in the centrum and the safari club. Some of the home grown productions are quite good. The team really makes an effort and it comes through. We didn’t do shore excursions with the exception of Russia for visa. In all other places we were offered a shuttle service into the city centre for 10 dollars. There was no hassle getting out or in whatsoever and no preference was given to people on the shore excursions as we had read. All in all without having to spend on any additionals the cruise turned out to be a lovely experience and we are considering more such cruises. We will in all probability sail on the royal Caribbean. The ship offers gorgeous views of the sea with glass everywhere. Read Less

My wife and I decided to go on the 7 Night Scandinavia And Russia Cruise. It was awesome!!! The ship, while a little on the dated side, was clean and the crew was fantastic. We had an Aft facing Cabin on Deck 8 and it was very nice. As ours was on a corner (8168), we had a little bigger balcony. There is plenty of storage in the cabin. Our TV had issues, but they worked to get it fixed quickly. The bathroom is small but bigger than I expected. We did "My Time" dining but only ate in the Reflection dining room on the Formal Nights and one breakfast. If you want to wear a tux, I recommend renting on from RC prior to the cruise. No need to pack one. The meals in the Reflection was very good. I think they could have added a little more variety, but what we had was very tasty. The service for dinners was fantastic. They even brought us out a special dessert for our anniversary!!!! The breakfast in the Reflection was not very good. They throw you at a table and the service was very, very slow. When we got our food it was not very warm. The rest of our dinners were in the Windjammer, which was very good as buffets go. My wife figured out that Room Service is very cheap ($9.50)!! We ended up doing Room Service for our breakfasts which helped on Excursion days. We spent quite a few evenings in the Pub. They had excellent service and one of my favorite beers. The singer most nights did requests and we did a lot of sing alongs with the rest of the audience. We did watch one show in the main theater. It was nice but not memorable. Excursions were very good. The only one that was disappointing was in Stockholm. Due to the drought they were having we could not go into the canals (not RC fault). So we just cruised around the main channel. The tour guide did a great job. We then were supposed to take a bus tour of old town, but due to construction, we ended up sitting in traffic. Very disappointed. The Tallinn Old Town and Beer tour is very good. They mark it as "Strenuous" but it is not for us mid 50 year olds. Saint Petersburg was very good. We did the Grand Petersburg and Hermitage. We were lucky as we were the second tour into the Hermitage that day. Saw a lot of the city and they take you shopping at a big tourist trap place. Prices were good though, but get in line early to pay and stand your ground. A lot of line cutting. Helsinki was also good. We did the Town Tour and Ice Bar. Both were great. All in all, if I had to do it over again, I would do Stockholm on our own but the others were good to be on a tour (it is required in Saint Petersburg unless you have a tourist visa). Getting on and off the boat was very easy. Embarkation Day, we had a very smooth experience, but don't expect your bag brought to your cabin. Ours were way down the corridor from our cabin. We had very little issues on Excursions days getting on and off the boat. We only had one long line and that was in Saint Petersburg. On our return to Copenhagen, things went so smoothly, we were off the boat and in a cab in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend having your bags handled going off the ship (unless you are traveling light). The elevators are packed so you have to lug everything down stairs. We only had to go from 8 to 4 to our waiting area and then down to two but it was still a workout lugging our small bags. I was very pleased with this cruise. We are going on a Christmas Cruise with RC on the Jewel of the Seas. We are looking forward to it. Read Less

My husband and I picked this cruise as a compromise for our honeymoon and it turned out absolutely amazing! We arrived in Copenhagen on Thursday afternoon and had Thursday, Friday and Saturday to explore which was probably the minimum amount of time I would suggest in Copenhagen. It's such a beautiful city with so much history. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza which is a quick trip from the airport and 5 minute walk from the metro station with easy access to the downtown area which was perfect for us. They also offer a shuttle to the cruise port for a reasonable fee. Embarkation would be the only really negative I have for this cruise. Royal Caribbean only offered priority boarding for Diamond members and above at this port, this was not advertised anywhere and in fact I had received an email 1 week prior to sailing confirming this benefit. My husband and I booked a spa appointment for the day we boarded the ship and arrived at the port 2 hours before the appointment thinking it would be more than enough time but due to the fact we had to board in the general line it took quite some time and we were delayed getting to our appointment. Once we got on the ship everything else was great! It was my first time on a smaller ship and I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Our cabin was ready promptly at 1pm so we were able to rush there to drop our stuff before heading to our spa appointment. Once we returned from that our luggage was waiting outside our room so we were able to shower before heading out to enjoy the set sail activities after the muster drill. The service aboard was great as with all the Royal cruises we've experienced. Everyone we encountered went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. It was our first experience with My Time Dining and we really enjoyed it. I had made our reservations about a week before we boarded the ship on the Cruise Planner, we did change our time one evening after we already boarded it and wasn't a problem. On the 2nd day we asked the host about getting a table along the window so we could enjoy the beautiful scenery while we dined. He was a little hesitant at first, but once we explained we absolutely didn't mind waiting until one opened up it wasn't a problem getting a table by the window every night. We never waited more than 15-20 minutes. All of the ports were absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Our first was Stavanger, which we chose to do the Pulpit Rock Hike. This was very difficult but extremely rewarding once you reached the top. My husband and I weren't show if Royal was being over careful by all the warnings about the strenuous nature of the hike but they weren't so I would definitely take caution booking this excursion if you're not prepared to hike up/down a mountain for at least 4 hours in all weather. The 2nd port was Bergen and it was probably our favorite port. We did a city tour and then our last stop was at the Ice Bar which was really neat to see. After this tour we had lots of time to explore the city on our own, grab lunch in the outdoor fish market and just enjoy the great weather we had! My suggestion for this port would be that you can easily do the Ice Bar on your own, it's a nice walk from the dock and you can enjoy the fish market on the way. We ended up not boarding the bus back to the dock and left from there on our own exploring. The 3rd port was Alesund. I would have to say this was our least favorite port which was a little sad since we had the longest time here. Our boating trip was canceled about a week before departure for an unknown reason. We booked the Sugar Top Hike last minute which was really neat and had beautiful views at the top once the weather cleared up a bit. Afterwards we had about 8 hours to explore the city. I'm not sure if we missed anything but not a lot of restaurants or places weren't open for some reason and since our excursion changed shortly before we departed we unfortunately didn't do a lot of research on what else there was to do. It was still beautiful and we enjoyed everything! The last port was Gerainger which is breathtaking!! I would highly suggest booking some sort of excursion or activity while in this port. It is a very small town and not much to do if you don't have anything planned. We booked the Storeseterfossen waterfall hike and Westeras Farm visit which was very enjoyable. I would also caution that this is not as leisurely of a hike as it was worded in the description from Royal Caribbean. There was quite a few people in our group that either didn't make it to the top or had some trouble. Getting off the ship was very easy for us!! We took advantage of the Crown and Anchor lounge to debark and walked off the ship and had our luggage within 10 minutes. I would highly suggest booking the ships transfers to the airport or making sure you have some sort of transportation from the cruise ship terminal in advance. The port is quite a distance from the city center and the taxi line was EXTREMELY long. We booked the ships transfers which was great. The only downfall is they dropped us off in the domestic terminal and we had to drag our luggage over to the international terminal. Overall I would suggest this cruise to anyone! The ports were amazing, the service aboard was amazing and it was the perfect mix of exploring when we in ports to having time to relax while aboard the ship. It was definitely a different vibe from the Caribbean cruises I've been on before but we really enjoyed it and already booked a Baltic cruise for next summer! Read Less

New ports of call .....Loved all 5.Could not compare them .Dining was great. For breakfast we tried the park cafe which opened earlier and we tried the windjammer, the main dining, and room service. All were great with no complaints. We only snacked for lunch if that but dinner was always the main dining which was great in every way.My favorite appetizer was the coconut shrimp. And my hubby was happy with his double shrimp cocktail and double creme brule. He says he is going through creme brule withdrawl.lolThe cafe lattitudes for coffee also had some awesome deserts. We booked one excursion with the cruise line in St Lucia. It took us on a spanish Galleon replica ,took us to the volcano where we had a mud bath experience, and got to try a creole buffet. All were great and highly recommend. The other 4 ports we found stuff to do on our own.Highly recommend all 5 ports but for different reasons because they are all so different. Our room was always clean and we had an awesome attendant. There was always stuff to do on the ship. And we loved the hot tub and minature golf early on ship.My hubby and I had a date night every night and that was great. For entertainment they had almost everything.Yes we would go again. To start with my wife and I are pretty easy to keep happy, yet they failed in every way possible. While we have enjoyed RC cruise lines in the past, this one was a FAIL in all aspects and not just by our opinion but also by MANY in asked for comments by others. The Ship was clean and on time getting to and leaving ports, and while a good thing, that should not be the best thing about the trip. Where to start on the list of problems is difficult but here's some of the highlights...our suite's mini fridge/bar was broken and actually making items HOT so they quickly removed it and replaced it 4 (FOUR) days later. Our at port activities booked through RC (one every port) with the exception of one were Late to start, early to return, poorly planned and over priced, here's an example...At the last port we booked a Jeep and Beach ADVENTURE about 4 1/2 hours, you drive your own (group's) 5 passenger NEW jeep, convoy style to historic and viewpoints, do some off roading on the dunes, and arrive at a beauty of a private beech where you'll have crystal clear waters swimming, beach loungers, umbrella, cocktails, and food. after a couple hours a bus will pick you up, make a stop for a little local shopping/refreshments, then return you to the ship...sounds Great right?...REALITY Late start, about 45 min waiting on the dock in the sun standing in a line, 10 minute march to a BUS depot where you board a SMALL and over PACKED bus...some sat/stood in the walk way. About 45 min later (with people packed in like sheep) we arrived at a parking lot with a view that was less than breath taking, people scrambled back to secure a seat and we went to the "other beach", where they had ran out of loungers, seats, umbrellas, But had LOT'S of rusty bottle tops and broken glass in the sand to keep u occupied as you BAKED in the sun and swam in thefairly murky water of the about 20 yards deed and 75 yards long beach (along with about 200 other people). I was offered a BROKEN chair (1) for our group of 3 for $15 dollars US, and you COULD NOT have beer or cocktails as our Jeeps (that we would be the drivers of) would be arriving...then the self drive home in convoy style, heavy traffic (literally their rush hour time) where we stopped 3 times for about 10 min to SMELL the stench of open sewage at areas wiped out by the hurricane. After a stressfull hour driving we stopped at a what was less that a flea market for 15 minutes then rushed back to the ship with 5 minutes to spare before scheduled departure......Here's the KICKER...MOST of us raised some hell at the excursion center on the boat...the next day we were told the best they could do was a 17.00 dollar US refund!!!!...and I don't even want to start with the quality of the "SHOWS" on the boat they tried but...hahaha not in a good way. That was our last day at port, and my last trip with them. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. We were not disappointed by that at all. The Ship was small and I missed the Promenade Deck. Centrum is too small and confining. We feel the same way about the dining room. Cramped space and service was not good. Food was great, we only ate in the main dining room 3 of our 10 nights. We did greatly enjoy the Specialty Restaurants and didn't mind paying the surcharge for it. Not enough activities and the entertainment was boring. Cruise director was bland. No music on the pool deck during the day. Our Stateroom was clean and comfortable and our Steward Alvin was wonderful. Embarkation was very smooth and we were on the ship in less than 20 minutes. Debarkation was horrible. The lines were too long and it seemed chaotic. I will definately give Royal Caribbean another try but not on Serenade. Read Less

The St. Thomas Scenic Harbor Cruise and Shopping excursion was a sham. It was not a tour. It was an slow and expensive water taxi ride straight to town and after a short time a ride straight back to ship on the same route as before. A land taxi ride was $4 US. This cost much more and did not give us enough time to shop and sightsee. Unable to watch anything on TV because they did not have program list. What is on? When is it on? Seats at outdoor theater did not face screen -no blankets, pillows, popcorn - volume so low all you could hear was audience talking. They roll up the sidewalks early. Beer is very expensive. No food after 12.00am and not much after 10pm. No ice cream shop or pizza shop. Decor: Just OK. Service: Excellent Clean: You bet Food: Nothing special Ship: Good condition, BUT old and out of date (no Ice skating, no huge water slide tubes and missing some of the cool stuff on the newer ships. Elevators: They SUCK (and at only 2 locations) Read Less

We chose this cruise with Royal Carribean because my sister and her family have cruises with Royal many times. From the moment we arrived on the ship until the day we disembarked 11 days later we were totally transformed from island travelers to Cruisers. There is nothing like it. The places you see in the world over the short 11 days wa what I really enjoyed the most. The staff , crew, all the food drinks and snacks we second to none. Lots of sun chairs to lay in all day and towels were also a plenty. One item They should look into is a better coffeeserved through ship except at CaffetudesCoffee shop. The expresso drinks were amazing but regular coffee could be better tasting . Otherwise we had amazing weather and are already talking about taking this trip with Royal again next March . We are transformed travellers from now on . Read Less

For our 10th wedding anniversary we booked an eleven night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Serenade of the Seas. The ship was okay, the cabin and cabin attendant were great. The dining room left a lot to be desired. The menu selections were repetitive, the serving sizes were small, almost minuscule. The food was tasteless and I often compared it to hospital food! Crab claws to wrestle on formal night....really! Overcooked and under seasoned! The service in the dining room was lacking......no rapport with the passengers. After complaining to the Head Waiter I had a meeting with the head chef to express my dislike....he really had no explanation but did offer a nice filet mignon the next night for the two of us from Chops! We did eat in Chops and it was excellent as usual.....so I know they can prepare good food. One night we ate dinner in Windjammer just to find more variety in selection. The food in Windjammer was no better, but they did do a nice breakfast! Diamond Lounge was a joke and should be abolished. Over 300 Diamond guest on the ship and seating for 30 at one time. Not a great way to treat your repeat customers. Mario, the manager of the Diamond Lounge said it was an executive decision and I should contact Miami about the situation......which I will do. Sure, they push you to just go get your three free drinks at any bar...but that is not the purpose of the Diamond lounge. Entertainment was blah....except for the comedian.....he was entertaining. Next time I decide spend my valuable vacation dollars it will not be to be stuck somewhere eating cafeteria food with lack luster entertainment and poor service. Wake up Royal Caribbean......I will be shopping for a new cruise company! Did not book another cruise while on the ship! Read Less

My wife and I just returned from a 12 night cruise aboard The Serenade of The Seas leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale on 2-26-18. It was a wonderful cruise but did have some hiccups. We LOVE the smaller ships as we have been on the larger ones (Anthem, Oasis, Quantum) and feel they are much too big with too many people and the "personal" touch is just not there. Well this ship was small and to are liking but was missing two of our most favorite things when cruising. First of all their hot tubs were terrible. Not hot at all many days and had absolutely NO BUBBLES. When we complained we were told it would be looked at but after speaking directly with the pool maintenance folks, it was discovered that these hot tubs have very few jets and 1 motor...just not powerful...that sucked! Secondly the casino was extremely outdated. Old, old machines. Really? You can refurbish the ship but not refurbish the casino? There were only maybe 6 fairly interactive modern machines in the entire casino and a husband and wife monopolized play on these machines all hours of the day. They were there so much I don't think they even ate the entire trip!!! On the plus side our balcony was so spacious and beautiful...we had a Deluxe Ocean View Balcony room and it was fantastic! We spent many a night out on our balcony watching the moon, sipping wine, and listening to the roar of the waves. Herbert, our greeter in the Windjammer Café was the star of the show!! He was great! Always wearing a smile every day and saying "hello my friend!!" Every ship should have a Herbert!!! The cruise itself was great..destinations were enjoyable but we would not go back o this ship until they update their casino and their hot tubs!! Read Less

my wife and I took this cruise for a mid-winter get away and celebrate our up coming 30th anniversary. Over all about what we expected if not somewhat better. I will say that some of the theater entertainment was "high schoolish" reminded me of the high school drama club performers.. Also still trying to figure out why I was billed approx 150.00 more than my final on board statement showed.. The ports were nice with the exception of Ponce.. No reason to get off ship there. The boardwalk area is still recovering from hurricane season and the list of things to do in town was not exciting.. Would like to have spent more time in Barbados and St Lucia..(love those islands) But understand the need to get the ship out of port. All staff we dealt with were awesome, The main dining room people are great,, Food was above expectations. Still hope they can do something about "deck chair hogs" I saw numerous chairs vacant for over 1 hour with towel and personal stuff. I do not have an issue with saving a chair for your self or spouse, But 1/2 hr is all that is allowed, however not enforced by staff. I have and will move your stuff myself but that could cause a problem someday. Read Less

We've been on the Serenade several years ago on a Mediterranean cruise (R/T Barcelona with Cannes, Florence, Naples, Rome, Venice, Ravenna, and Dubrovnik as the ports ). The ship is just the right size for us. The dates and ports were good as there were two new ports (St. Croix and Martinique) and favorite old ports: St. Thomas, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. We also like the Solarium pool area, where we spent most of our on board time.. The dining in the Windjammer is great with the circular counters so you never are really standing on a long line. The Centrum was very popular and mostly extremely difficult to find seating. We often observed the Centrum activities from deck nine where we had our cabin. Wish that the Centrum was a bit larger with more seating on decks four and five. All in all a lovely ship and a great cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Itinerary and we had heard a lot of good things about Royal Caribbean. Embarkation was smooth but we like to carry our own luggage on and we were not allowed to. Food selection in the Windjammer buffet dining room was exceptional and the food was very good. Staff was very friendly, very nice and accommodating. Cons: No ironing stations or laundry room. This was the smallest ship we had ever been on but it was no problem for us. We were also use to having a TV as part of the treadmill in the fitness room, it helps the time to go by faster for me while working out so that took a little getting use to. We booked our own shore excursions. One was via shoreexcursioneer for St Marteen. the skylift and Flying Dutchman combo and it was excellent. For Debarkation we did our own luggage carry off and it was the easiest debarkation we have EVER experienced on any cruise we have ever done. We have done 23 cruises not counting this one. Thanks to the staff, food and itinerary it was overall a very good vacation. Read Less

This is the first time I have ever written concerning any vacation or cruise I have taken. This is because I am a very laid back person and realize that sometimes thing will go wrong on any trip or vacation. So, I have learned to go with the flow and don’t sweat the little things in life even when one of the islands I wanted to see was replace with one I been to last year because of the hurricanes. You are on vacation so chill and have fun because there are many people who can’t take a vacation or in this case a nice 10 day cruise to 5 Caribbean Islands. I decided to write after receiving a survey from Royal Caribbean concerning my cruise experience on Serenade of the Seas so decided why not. First, I would like to say I had a great time but I have never had a bad time on a cruise if traveling with friends, family or alone. The food was good, the ship and staff was great, the entertainment was good, and the locations were fantastic. I received some sort of insect bites on my first day and night on the ship and the staff, front desk, nurses and doctors went above and beyond to make sure I was ok. They gave us a new room and gave me great medical service to relieve my discomfort. Ricky the cruise director was great! I don’t know where he gets all of his energy from but he and his staff did a great job of keeping us entertained. If I had to write about anything that can be improved I would say that there should be more than 1 night showing of great comedians like James Stephens because if you miss the act one day you can see it another. I made the mistake of heckling him from the audience, something I have never done before, but he got me back by calling me to the stage. It was all in good fun and I spent the rest of the cruise explaining to other guest that I wasn’t part of the act and that it just happened. He does the best impresses of Bill Cosby and Ray Charles I have ever seen. When there is a great show word gets around the ship but if it is not shown on the ships TV anyone who missed it doesn’t get to ever see it. This is what happened to a friend who missed his act because she wasn’t feeling well. There should be a video of the cruise that can be purchased because with all of the activities going on there is no way to catch them all. It would be a great memento to keep and share with family and friends. I asked the front desk if there was one to purchase and was told there was not. I have been on other cruises in which there were. Also, the Centrum should be extended or have more seating because whenever there was certain events going on there was not enough room for the over flow of guest. The front desk being right next to the stage area where music and other events were going on makes no sense because it gets pretty loud at times. The few times I had to talk to someone at the front desk I had to shout to be heard. This has to be a big problem for the front office staff too. It seems it would be better served if the front desk was moved to another floor and the space was used for more seating. I was on a ship with many senior citizens and it was sad seeing them show up late for events at the Centrum, on walkers and crushes, only to not be able to find seating. There was even a show one night in the Tropical Theater which was crowded in which a elderly women was having a hard time finding a seat and was being forced to walk down the stairs to the lower level until I stepped in to help find her a seat in our area. Cruise lines with a high number of elderly guests should have staff available to assist them in finding seats. I’m not a big gambler but would love to give it a try when cruising but the strong smell of smoke in every cruise casino I have ever been on runs me out fast. Now I’m not trying to ban smoking in cruise casino’s but there should be another casino on the opposite side of the ship for those like me who may want to gamble but can’t because the smoke smell is so repulsive. Lastly, Royal Caribbean should take a page from Carnival and begin serving burgers, and vegan burgers, fries, tacos and burritos at the poolside which makes it a nice touch and adds to the feeling of having a party at the pool. All in all I had a great time and I love RC and will continue with the cruise line but I do like to try other cruise lines and ships, to compare, to get the best deals and the locations I want to visit. But again, I have never been on a bad cruise. Read Less
