I wanted to take my elderly mother on a calm cruise as a cruise was on her bucket list. When I boarded the ship I ask if I could rent a wheelchair for my mother I was declined do to the face I did not make arrangements when I booked the reservation. I didn’t think we would need one 3 mo prior to the trip. I was spoken to TERRiBLE by the security personal. After we boarded the ship an after a 2 hour wait to get in our room I was told it was mandatory we attend the safety drill procedure. I could not take my elderly mom there with walking disability down the stairs so I had her stay in the room while I attended.. My mother there has Dementia also. When I returned to the room my mother was not there. I went to the hallway an ask the cabin Stew Ricardo if he had seen my mother.? Ricardo stated he went into the room (I assume to clean as it was not very clean when we arrived) an he saw he sitting on the bed with a blanket. Ricardo then said she said she was hungry then she left the room. I told him I needed to find her she has dementia. I looked through halls of our floor an I found her safe an sound. I was then paged by the security personal. I went to guest services an was invited to an office of the security personal. The female security officer and the male officer spoke to me HORRIBLE!!!!!! The female officer stated the cabin stew stated he found my mother in the room wrapped in a blanket laying under the bed. Complete total LIE. First of all my mother would not b able to get on the floor much less under the bed. Second, ileven if that were true...why would he leave her there?.,I told them that was impossible!!! They then told me the cruise line was never t responsible for my mother and I was not to leave her alone. I told them I would not have left her alone had it not been for their safety procedure an the caregiver who was suppose to be on the trip with us had cancelled the day before., I was shocked humiliated over they way I was treated. Also I ask guest services if I could rent a wheelchair was declined from for the ship and also declined for shore excursions an just walking in the towns when we docked so our entire trip was spent on the ship except for one day we left the ship for Halifax an I thought maybe I could rent a cab. My mother had a very difficult time even walking down the ramp to the port. A very nice man who works for Hop on Hop off ask if we needed anything I explained I wanted my mother to tour the city was unless we hired a cab it wasn’t going to work out. He said if we wanted to take the Hop on Hop off they would help me get her on an off. We did do that an we just stayed on the bus but at least she was able to see the city. This was the only time during this vacation someone treated my mother with kindness and respect. I feel my mother was discriminated against several times by the Cruise Line an will never take another Royal Caribbean Cruise again. Your cruise line should be ashamed. Read Less

We have been cruising with Royal Caribbean for 10 years. This was the worst ship for families we have ever experienced. First, no babysitting service. Every cruise we have gone on has had babysitting service. This did not and they are not able to accommodate. We prepaid to eat in the specialty restaurants every night thinking that we'd have sitter service. The kids rooms were old and out-dated. The chef at the Italian Restaurant has some kind of fetish with mushrooms, so if you don't like mushrooms your menu selection is very limited. There is no section for suite quests at the pool. The suite chairs are far removed from the pool and you can't use them if you want to watch your kids. That said, they don't police the chairs that well. People come down and reserve their chairs at 7 even though there is a 30 minute period where if you don't show up you lose your chair. The entertainment they have playing on the movie screen above the pool is completely inappropriate for children. Instead of playing something nice, like a movie or something, they re-played x-treme sports videos, in some cases, showing people being carted off a mountain with injuries (really nice for a 4 and 9 year old to see). While their were families on this cruise, most were older, so they didn't have much patience for children. Read Less

Rude staff, poor service, very unresponsive to needs. Food quality was very bad. Breakfast: Orders that had any variation from the menu, for example no cheese on my egg, were often wrong because the staff did not understand english well. It took may attempts to fix wrong orders. It took 25 minutes to get a cup of coffee in the dinning room. Orders were missing toasts. The list goes on. Bars: Rude staff. Even the main bars were missing drinks from the menu. Bar tenders were not willing to fetch the drinks from another bar or order the bottles for their bar. They made us go around fetching drinks form bars across the ship. Customer Service: Very poor grasp of english language. Based on their responses, it was evident they did not understand the question. Internet: Very bad quality. Signal dropped every five minutes. I took my device to the help desk. The tech representative tried to connect to the wifi, saw the errors message pop up, then asked me what is the problem. When I asked him to look at the error message, he looked confused and said would you like a refund. A friend on the ship told me to turn of the wifi and then turn it back on, problem solved but with no help from the staff. Read Less

we chose this particular cruise for the destinations as we already been to most of the regular islands, this was our first and last cruise with royal Caribbean line. thee embarkation locale is dirty and guests are treated like cattle, we were booked in a superior balcony suite, it felt like a shipping container with a balcony, the bathroom is so small even the comedian joke about the only way to soap is first rub the soap on the walls of the shower and then roll. I can't even describe the bed because I was afraid to look underneath. they nickel and dime the passengers, no shampoo, or conditioner, our cabin person was non-existent we only saw him just a few times, the bedsheets were never changed, the room was dusty even after a request to vacuum, I made the mistake of opening the balcony door while the ship was moving, we paid dearly, the dust that came flying in from the curtains felt like we were next to a sand quarry so for the duration of the cruise we spent as little time as possible in the room. after the first day of visiting the windjammer cafeteria, we avoided it like the plague, the servers are the rudest peoples ever, but have to mention the staff in the reflection dining room ( Gerard and Heman) made up for the rudeness of the rest of the staff. The food were at best palatable( luckily we didn't get sick). the entertainment is ZZZ because I fell asleep almost every night, some of the cruise directors staff were terrible with the exception of one(Grant). the parties at night were ok and only because of the limitation of music selections. It is the first time I ever experience where staff members refers to guest as "hey Man" or "hey lady" when addressing guests. Be careful when returning from shore excursions because a few of the security guards are unprofessional and think that their are cops and treated the guest just like TSA agent do. Overall the excursions are decent. we met some nice and interesting folks both on and off the ship that made up for some short coming of management whose agents lies to get a sale, they make false promises i.e. onboard credits( when attempted to verify the guest is treated like a criminal by guest services,) or unrecorded diner vouchers sent to the homes that cannot be redeem. Oh I forgot to mentioned several ports the ship docked in freight terminal so in order to do anything in town one must take a shuttle. Overall we made the best of a bad experience, not coming back, we rather pay more on a higher quality line. Read Less

To start with my wife and I are pretty easy to keep happy, yet they failed in every way possible. While we have enjoyed RC cruise lines in the past, this one was a FAIL in all aspects and not just by our opinion but also by MANY in asked for comments by others. The Ship was clean and on time getting to and leaving ports, and while a good thing, that should not be the best thing about the trip. Where to start on the list of problems is difficult but here's some of the highlights...our suite's mini fridge/bar was broken and actually making items HOT so they quickly removed it and replaced it 4 (FOUR) days later. Our at port activities booked through RC (one every port) with the exception of one were Late to start, early to return, poorly planned and over priced, here's an example...At the last port we booked a Jeep and Beach ADVENTURE about 4 1/2 hours, you drive your own (group's) 5 passenger NEW jeep, convoy style to historic and viewpoints, do some off roading on the dunes, and arrive at a beauty of a private beech where you'll have crystal clear waters swimming, beach loungers, umbrella, cocktails, and food. after a couple hours a bus will pick you up, make a stop for a little local shopping/refreshments, then return you to the ship...sounds Great right?...REALITY Late start, about 45 min waiting on the dock in the sun standing in a line, 10 minute march to a BUS depot where you board a SMALL and over PACKED bus...some sat/stood in the walk way. About 45 min later (with people packed in like sheep) we arrived at a parking lot with a view that was less than breath taking, people scrambled back to secure a seat and we went to the "other beach", where they had ran out of loungers, seats, umbrellas, But had LOT'S of rusty bottle tops and broken glass in the sand to keep u occupied as you BAKED in the sun and swam in thefairly murky water of the about 20 yards deed and 75 yards long beach (along with about 200 other people). I was offered a BROKEN chair (1) for our group of 3 for $15 dollars US, and you COULD NOT have beer or cocktails as our Jeeps (that we would be the drivers of) would be arriving...then the self drive home in convoy style, heavy traffic (literally their rush hour time) where we stopped 3 times for about 10 min to SMELL the stench of open sewage at areas wiped out by the hurricane. After a stressfull hour driving we stopped at a what was less that a flea market for 15 minutes then rushed back to the ship with 5 minutes to spare before scheduled departure......Here's the KICKER...MOST of us raised some hell at the excursion center on the boat...the next day we were told the best they could do was a 17.00 dollar US refund!!!!...and I don't even want to start with the quality of the "SHOWS" on the boat they tried but...hahaha not in a good way. That was our last day at port, and my last trip with them. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it covered Christmas and New Years. The ship was very short staffed. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful but way overworked. Could never get anyone's attention to get what we needed in dining room. Saw the waiter when they took your order and brought the food 30 minutes later but then never again not even to remove the dirty dishes so we stacked them on the next table. Tacky but didn't know what else to do. No waiters in sight around pool area. In general in every area of the ship it was understaffed and obvious. I guess that saves save money for RCL. Chop's at $200.00 was a terrible waste of money. Don't pay for drink card because no will waite on you. The fruits and vegetables were not fresh most of the time. Bed in room were like sleeping on sidewalk and no shampoo or conditioner in the room. All together a really disappointing cruise. Read Less

Chose this cruise before the hurricanes, lost most of our ports with THEIR selections. Martinique was a total waste, they didn't even promote shore excursions or shopping, jus dumped you off on your own. St Lucia next was nice, then a short sail to Barbados. It was their Independence Day, everything was closed, we hired a taxi to a beach, could not get there, streets were closed for parade. You think they could have switched ports to not arrive on a holiday when they are so close? The entertainment was woefully lacking, very ameturish, and lack of variety. If you liked that specific genre, maybe you could endure, we tired and headed back to our balcony to enjoy the moonlight sea. The food was lacking, named to make you interested, however it was tasteless and small portions. The menu was the same each night, very few changes, and the first cruise I ever saw fried chicken on the menu. On the 8th evening the menu listed lobster tails, however the plate arrived with 1/2 of a tiny poorly prepared lobster. Upon asking what we were being served we were advised they ran low, so they divided the portions rather than substitute. The deck posted menu listed items, and then the table menu provided was different!!!! Purchased a beverage package, soda, and every fountain on board served flat beverages. Explored the ship to find a proper drink, not available, complained, told if the first night I complained they could have done something, ended up drinking ice water. Read Less

I'm usually a fan of Royal Caribbean and have had two previous cruises with them that I would rate as excellent, but this one wasn't. My wife and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary and I had pre-booked an ultimate anniversary package, only to find that after I got on the ship it had been cancelled by Royal Caribbean without any notice to me. Then when I tried to re-book it, I was told that they don't carry the items on the ship and therefore couldn't provide it. Instead they offered the minimal. Hugely disappointed. Activities on the ship - not varied enough and fairly standard. Talent on the ship - below even cruise performers. No-one was notable and none of the performances were very inspired. Ports of call - okay, but not much variety in the shore excursions between each of the ports. Got "excursioned out" because the lack of variety. And too cold to hit the pool on the days of sailing. I choose this cruise only because of it itinerary only. It is the only cruise line that offer 3 days in St Petersburg. Now that I have gone, I think 2 days will be enough which mean many other cruise lines to choose from. I have been with Princess cruises, Celebrity cruises and P&O. I have never experience a cruise which just want to push the customers to buy and buy. First, throughout the ship, there are booths setting up trying to sell customer drinks and to sell customers to take pictures. The very one thing that turns me off is that they even sell you to pay extra to go to other speciality restaurant right in front of the main dinning room and while you are already sitting at your dinning table inside the dinning room. Imagine the situation that we are walking into the main dinning room or when we are already sitting down at the dinner table, preparing ourselves for a fine, nice dinner and someone is telling you to spend some money in other better restaurant. What does this mea to men? Does it mean the restaurant that we are going to dine is not a good one? I honestly don't think this is a good idea to try to get income this way. Also, they are selling Sushi inside the dinning room while we are having our meal. Both Princess and Celebrity offer customers the opportunity to go inside the kitchen to have a look of how's the catering job done. For Royal caribbean, it request us to pay for a look. Well, speechless. Overall, food is very average. In the main dinning room, the food is serve cold even it is suppose to be hot dish. The presentation of soup is so awful as you can clearly see the soup spill around the bowl. I have never seen this kind of food presentation in other cruise line. If they make an extra effort to wipe the bowl slightly, we would not notice about it. Royal Caribbean close its buffet restaurant between lunch, and snack and dinner. Princess and Celebrity never close it even though they are changing their food as per different section time. Service desk staff - unbelievable rude. First, they don't carry smile. Even when I settle my payment, they don't even say thank you. I was in a group of 13 and we were allocated in 2 different disembarkation time. I asked for some luggage tags which matched the other group. I was given that at the first time with no problem. Then after 20 minutes, I get back to the same staff and get 2 extra tags. He look at me and said "you have taken too many tags". I told him I have got 13 people and each of us have 2 or some of us have more luggage. I am not asking to waste it". After he heard of this, he turn his back to me going to get the tags for me but without saying a word. As a customer, I feel very bad being treat like this. I just not feeling comfortable. For entertainment, their show is okay despite some are really boring. People have to leave just after the show start. There are several nights that they only have 1 show for the whole night. That's just mean some of the customers are going to miss out. I am very sure that I will not get on Royal Caribbean anymore. Read Less

Ship is very worn. Lot's of rust. Raw sewage smell in the cabin twice during the cruise. Same smell in other areas of the ship. Maintenance was quick to respond each time. Ship is too crowded and loud. Too many smoking areas, cigarette smell in too many areas. Loud music from the pub below kept us awake until the early areas of the morning. Rude and unhelpful crew and customer service. Main and assistant waiter were great! Food was great. Room service selection is poor. On our first day there was a pair of underwear, a dental flosser and a bobby pin on the floor from the previous occupant. Groups on scavenger hunt kept disturbing us to take their picture. Deck 7 has a partially obstructed view due to the roof over the life boats even though their company policy says it is not obstructed. Crew/staff seem listless overall and some were rude. They are trained in multiple ways to say "No" and not take care of problems. This is my 5th cruise and the 3rd on Royal Caribbean. In the future I will spend more money and cruise on more exclusive cruise lines. We jokingly referred to Serenade of the Seas as the "Ghetto Ship". Headliners were good for the most part. Ship's dancers/entertainers/shows were poor. If you walk off the ship at some ports of call you are mobbed by tour operators/taxi drivers/locals selling tours. Most are not very friendly. Roseau, Dominica has open sewers with raw sewage flowing down the street. Read Less

travel agent found this cruise for us - DISASTER.we had lots of problems with the cabin allocation prior to sailing. one of the party is disabled and needs the use of a wheelchair on occasion. although i followed all RC's instructions, completed the relevant forms and e mailed the request for a cabin close to restaurants/elevator my request was totally ignored. we were allocated a tiny interior 'stateroom' (more like a prison cell) a long walk to elevators, at the opposite end of the ship to restaurants etc. and to top it all off the linen station was parked right outside our cabin every day making it impossible to get the wheelchair in or out of the cabin. The request to change cabins was met with a NO! Would not recommend interior cabins.we developed really bad chest infections and coughs caused we think by the air con which you have to have on constantly as it is so hot and you cant turn it off. Windjammer food was at most what we would expect of a typical 3 star all inclusive hotel. Basic and bland. don't expect to get a glass of wine with your meal here as the self serve bar didnt serve alchohol and we found it almost impossible to find a waiter to serve us. Restaurant food was better, but why do RC have a dress code for the restaurants if they dont adhere to it. we noticed people going into the restaurants in shorts t shirts for dinner. not appropriate dress. Beware of the travel agents (thomas cook in particular) telling you this is an all inclusive cruise. we tried to order drinks at the bar only to be told we only had a soda package which consisted of Coca Cola and soft drinks. Cocktails and spirits are not included and nor is bottled water at the bars. they finally relented and allowed us house wine and beer but only after i made a phone call to the U.K. to complain to thomas cook who informed us we had the whole drinks package. We went on a couple of excursions- enjoyed them especially the beach extravaganza in antigua. Embarkation and disembarkation was a bit if farce - organised chaos with some of the staff not sure what they were doing. took us about 3 hours get off the ship and through security. we have been on 4 cruises in the past but Royal Carribean is by far the worst. Although the staff were very friendly and hard working the customer service needs to be reviewed. very disappointing holiday! Read Less

We’d booked the Mediterranean cruise onboard Freedom of the Seas & wanted to try out the Baltic & Russia cruise with Royal Caribbean. We found the ship smaller but enjoyable but having been on the larger ship Freedom of the Seas it felt like a downgrade. No soda dispenser machine & awkward to be asking at a bar for soda top ups. Highlight was the cinema & the excellent movies. Hardly anyone ever went into the crown pub it was also awkward walking through casino to get to other places. Onboard entertainment in Tropical theatre was average. The one shore excursion we booked via RC wasn’t great. The independent tours we did book online were more superior. A charge of about €245 was taken from my account despite having paid a final statement of over €600. Waiting to get this back. Overall I’ll consider trying another cruise company or going on a bigger ship with more facilities Read Less

WE CHOOSE THIS CRUISE TO CELEBRATE OUR 20 ANNIVERSARY, , This was a cruise leased by Royal Caribbean, and that's why we took it because we have traveled 5 times with them and we know their service. The process of boarding very cooperative, lunch ok, dinner was without reservation very fast the attention of the waiters excellent as always, very attentive. There was no package of drinks which does not seem fair to me and the price of the expensive liquor in any side I paid for a glass of process $ 14 very good schedule for Zumba classes, the instructors very fun. that day the concert had to change time because of problems of the time was understandable, the concert ended and we went to the main dining room and very well organized very fast and the excellent service was open buffet, then the excellent rumba good service security, Read Less

My wife and I just returned from a 12 night cruise aboard The Serenade of The Seas leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale on 2-26-18. It was a wonderful cruise but did have some hiccups. We LOVE the smaller ships as we have been on the larger ones (Anthem, Oasis, Quantum) and feel they are much too big with too many people and the "personal" touch is just not there. Well this ship was small and to are liking but was missing two of our most favorite things when cruising. First of all their hot tubs were terrible. Not hot at all many days and had absolutely NO BUBBLES. When we complained we were told it would be looked at but after speaking directly with the pool maintenance folks, it was discovered that these hot tubs have very few jets and 1 motor...just not powerful...that sucked! Secondly the casino was extremely outdated. Old, old machines. Really? You can refurbish the ship but not refurbish the casino? There were only maybe 6 fairly interactive modern machines in the entire casino and a husband and wife monopolized play on these machines all hours of the day. They were there so much I don't think they even ate the entire trip!!! On the plus side our balcony was so spacious and beautiful...we had a Deluxe Ocean View Balcony room and it was fantastic! We spent many a night out on our balcony watching the moon, sipping wine, and listening to the roar of the waves. Herbert, our greeter in the Windjammer Café was the star of the show!! He was great! Always wearing a smile every day and saying "hello my friend!!" Every ship should have a Herbert!!! The cruise itself was great..destinations were enjoyable but we would not go back o this ship until they update their casino and their hot tubs!! Read Less

I choose this cruise for my daughter's birthday and because we've never been to Cozumel. The ship is beautiful and that's probably the only positive thing to say. If you're looking for a party cruise this is most definitely not for you. To begin with the food was horrible. Throughout the entire cruise there were maybe 2 items that I enjoyed and that was the small hibachi area on the last night and the tiramisu from Reflections. Our wait staff in Reflections were nice but very slow and not attentive at all. While we were waiting for our entrees some people were already ordering desert. Every cruise that we take we ALWAYS go to our reserved dining and we just couldn't do it on our last night. We couldn't handle how boring it was and seeing the same food options over and over. Absolutely disappointed with the food options on this ship. The burgers, chicken sandwiches, fried chicken completely disgusting. The windjammer closes at 9 and there are no other options to eat anything else other than from Park Cafe which had very limited items as well. The entertainment was not that great either. The best show for us was the first one with the actual comedian. Normally cruises will have several options on the same night with a musical show and comedian show but in these 4 days they only had 1 comedian show and we were not happy with that at all. As for the musical shows again we would normally stay for all the shows on other ships but we had to walk out on one specific show that said that this band playede different genres and for us they played only 2 and this is not the music that we listen to. Overall very sad options. The music that the cruise played were all the same ones from every ship. Royal Caribbean needs to try to bring on different passengers from all era's not just one. Housekeeping may have worked all day however we kept getting dirty towels every night with nasty looking stains. Just gross all together. This cruise definitely catered to more older and conservative people which need to realize that the port out of Ft. Lauderdale will have diversity and I'm not sure where the majority of these people came from but it was very uncomfortable hearing all the comments and seeing the reactions when they came across people that didn't look like them it was just awful and in South Florida we have people from all over the world so for the sad and miserable people who cannot handle that, then they need to pick a cruise elsewhere. Cozumel was very nice and affordable I would definitely go back. Truly disappointed with the Serenade of the Seas and i would not recommend anyone that I know to book with this ship. Read Less

The bartenders was not very attentive to the customers, some of the alcohol was not available on the 3rd day, casino had all old machines, bartenders was not very attentive in the casino, The headliner shows were not very good, They had one night theme party and then nothing after. You pay all this money for the cruise plus the drinking package just to find out there are plenty of extra charges like bingo games, they have a drink of the day and you have to pay extra for the cup. The spa was absolutely beautiful, the staff was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. This was our 3rd cruise and this is the first time I actually had complaints. Read Less

A little background first, then a bit long, but ultimately fair review. I am a 61 year old widower with a decent amount of cruise experience.This was my 2nd with RCCL (although the 1st one was some 25+ years ago) to go with 4 on Carnival, 1 on Princess, and 1 on NCL. I traveled with my 32 year old single son. This was also his 2nd on RCCL to go with 2 on Carnival and 1 on Princess (all with me). We try to go on these cruises as often as possible as we don't live together and we don't see each other as often as we would like. We chose this cruise for many reasons...length, itinerary, and our schedules being the main reasons. We have been very happy with Carnival, but with RCCL having a good reputation we booked this 12 day repositioning cruise. Due to RCCL's reputation we expected a (slightly) superior experience than Carniva.This is where our disappointment originates. There were many areas that the cruise lines were equal, with Carnival superior in some areas.There were NO areas that we thought RCCL was better than Carnival. Plus there were several glitches/snafus that also contributed to this middling review. Let me first say, even though the remainder of this review will have the negatives, especially compared to Carnival, we still had a great time and given the variables of itinerary, cost, etc. we would not hesitate to take another RCCL cruise. Also, our cruise last year on Carnival was on a similar ship (size, age, etc.) so that it is a fair apples to apples comparison. Let me also say that the staff and crew were wonderful and faultless. All this being said, lets go to the review: Transfer from airport to ship: We prepaid for this transfer. Landing in Boston we found no one meeting us. We asked at information booth where the RCCL transfer people were, and were pointed to a couple of ladies nearby. Introducing ourselves, they said our names were not on the pick-up manifest.After a very short, pleasant discussion they said it happens every now and then, and it was no problem to bring us to the ship...Glitch #1. Embarkation/Check-in: Major line, very slow moving, took around an hour (maybe more)...in all of my previous cruises never more than 15 minutes. In later conversations aboard ship with other passengers, this opinion was pretty much consistent...Glitch #2. Dining Room: In booking this cruise we arranged for a table for 2, we were put at a table for 8 with 6 other passengers...glitch #3. (fortunately it was a great group and we all became very friendly). Informal (buffet) dining: While RCCL Windjammer buffet is basically adequate, Carnival has, in addition to the usual type buffet, "action" stations: Deli, Indian , make your own burritos, 24 hour pizza, a burger station (with tie in to Guy Fieri), a fresh Mongolian wok station, plus others...Major advantage to Carnival. Main dining room: Basically equal to Carnival....reasonable quantity of choices, well prepared, tasty, etc. One difference with Carnival, which may or may not matter to you: Carnival main dining experience much more festive...wait staff usually in aloha-type dress (except on formal nights) with a silly, nightly dance and/or song number with the guests. RCCL dressed in informal dress twice (of 12 nights), and sang on 2 nights...personally I really enjoy the festivity of the Carnival dining room. Room service: We didn't use it, but at the same time would have been disappointed to find out that except for the continental breakfast, it now contained a $7.95 fee... first time I've seen a cruise charge for room service . I wonder if the profit made on this will overcome the negative image it gives the cruise line. Beverages:Again an area where RCCL takes a back seat to Carnival. First, soda ....Where Carnival charged $2.25 for a soda, and a bit over $5/day for its unlimited package, RCCL charges over $8/day for its package. I had no intention of getting the RCCL unlimited package until I discovered they were charging $4 per soda. So I bought the package anyway. Later on I discovered my preferred soda, Coke Zero, was only available in a few of the venues. (available at all Carnival venues)...a day or 2 later I complained and was able to cancel the package (prorated). As for alcohol...I'm not much of a drinker, consuming less than a dozen alcoholic drinks in a year. I usually will have a couple or 3 drinks on a cruise. Day 2 I ordered a banana daquiari....only to be told that RCCL doesn't do them.Really???, not exactly an exotic drink! I had a strawberry daquari instead, which was my only alcoholic drink of the cruise . For the remainder of the cruise it was the free lemonade and iced tea....no soda, no alcohol... One plus for RCCL...they offered a 10 for $75 discount card for drinks, which my son bought. Activities: On par with Carnival, however could be scheduled better to limit conflicts, with some venues underutilized and others overcrowded (especially the "Centrum", the main center atrium of the ship...Too many activities there with minimal seating/standing space.) Entertainment: Another area RCCL inferior to Carnival. Where Carnival uses a lounge specifically for comics and each night has at least 1, and sometimes 2 comics, each sometimes doing a family show as well as an adult late night show...RCCL had I think 5 comics with only 1 doing a 2nd show for the entirety of the cruise, all in main theatre. The other "talent" is pretty much equal...a few "production" shows, a singer or 2, etc. Also, most shows only done once, creating conflicts with scheduling. Movies: While Carnival usually showed 2 movies on the big outside screen nightly (usually themed, with popcorn available), RCCL rotated maybe 6 movies for the 12 nights (same ones in multiple venues). Also, except for the movies, some football games and baseball play-offs, big outdoor screen usually displayed screen saver...on Carnival, most "dead time" filled in with music videos. Some comments on the ports, not really specific to RCCL: St. Kitts: We just walked the port area, shopped a bit, had lunch ashore. Pleasant enough. Antigua: Beach excursion with lunch included...pretty beach, adequate lunch, shopping at port. no problem. St. Lucia: BIG PROBLEM: another beach excursion, no lunch though. Asked tour guide if it was safe to leave stuff on beach chairs. She said no, and told us to leave wallets on bus where driver would be hanging out. While returning to ship, my son and I discovered we both had cash removed from our wallets (we figure $100-$140 total). I suspect driver, can't prove it though.Reported it to guest services, filled out paperwork, interviewed by ship security, but I expect nothing will come of report. Another, more minor issue, locals selling cheap trinkets to the tourists. Every few seconds another "vendor" would approach with his/her wares.A polite, "no" would send them away, only to be pestered a few moments later by another. Curacao: another beach excursion, prettiest beach of the 3...some more shopping, no problem. Aruba: submarine excursion.Went 150 ft. down, around reef, sunken ships....awesome...pricey, but worth it. Disembakation: went fine, no problems. To summarize: Surprised that RCCL gave me an inferior experience compared to Carnival, but none the less even with issues stated, had a great time, made new friends of former strangers sitting at table. Great staff and crew. Won't hesitate to cruise on RCCL in future, but if all things being equal, still would lean to Carnival.....until RCCL steps up its game. Read Less

Crew & Waitstaff are GREAT!!!!!,,,, Food as fine as any ,,,,Better then most,,,, Only real complaint was the Whale watching Tour in Halifax NS,,, One trip out,, for 1 hr. pa system only working in lower covered deck,,could not hear anything that was said.. 1 hr. Trip back,,, no whales at all !!!! Iceland is a very popular destination so we wanted to check it out. Done it and not impressed. If you had seen Niagara falls then the waterfalls in Iceland has nothing to brag about. The geysers are puny compared to the geysers in New Zealand and even the geysers in Yellowstone. What a mess it was in Copenhagen, the transfer from the airport to the port was totally disorganized. There was no one to greet the passengers or to direct us where to wait for our transfer. When we finally found a representative she directed us to a space in the terminal with no seats available and had to wait over an hour for the buses to be loaded. The disembarkation was a total disaster. Guests who opted to do the express (lagging their own luggage) were instructed to clear immigration at 6AM, didn't get close to seeing the immigration till 7 AM then we were herded to the outside deck on 5 and left there to wait and wait. We must have waited in the cold for almost an hour and a half. No one was told what was the delay. A lot of us missed our flights. We had a 10 AM flight that we almost missed. Until today no one from RCCL has said anything about the delay. Read Less

Had a balcony yet cabin was smaller than a postage stamp..not much can be changed there. You get spoiled on a larger ship. Will keep this in mind when booking next cruise. Children allowed in pools constantly and hot tubs became swimming pools for the children. Saw a baby with parents who was not trained in the pool on numerous occasions and in hot tub when signs clearly state no children who are not trained. KIDS allowed to jump in the pools when again signs clearly state this is prohibited. When I told the attendant, he stated that this could not be enforced. TAKE THE SIGNS DOWN IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF ENFORCING THEM. NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE AT THE POOLS AND HOT TUBS DURING THE HOURS KIDS WERE PRESENT. We are glad we are Crown and Anchor but see so many cutbacks since we began cruising in 1982. Sad. Do not want Royal Caribbean to become like Carnival. Food was good but again quality has slipped somewhat. Dining service outstanding..great personable staff. Read Less

The first reason why we did this cruise is the ports of call and second this is our 6th time cruising with RCC. The ship could really use some major window washing. It was hard to see the views through the window in the back of the ship because the windows were really dirty. It's an older ship, so there are signs everywhere of it's age and used. Their Photo Gallery can use some lessons about photo retouching from Carnival Cruise. Carnival offers photo retouching for free and take much professional photos, where as RCC does not offer this at all. We could have spent more money in the photo if they came out more professional looking, come on, with the computer technology, this is not hard thing to do! The food was just okay but gets to be boring after a couple of days. We booked a dinner at Chops Grille for $35 pp, I was disappointed that there are additional charges for some steak and lobster for $30! The steak almost tasted like the ones in the main dining room. So I think the specialty restaurants on board is not worth it. The crews were amazing, the entertainment was good. What I love most was the disco night, everybody seems to have a good time. The crew did a wonderful job on this event. We also booked the specialty sushi restaurant, Izumi, which was a good relief from the ship's daily food routine. RCC seems to be cutting back and charging on things which they did not use to charge before, like American room service, no more lobster night. We are Platinum member and the only thing we got was a robe to use while on board! They did not even bother to do anything for our 33 year anniversary even though they asked us in advance; We are glad that we booked all our shore excursions thru SPB tours, we don't feel like herds compared to the RCC big bus tours. SPB tours are so professional and have smaller crowds. The best to use anywhere in the Baltics, we booked cuz they have good reviews in tripadvisor.com. Read Less

This ten day cruise went to St. Martin, Tortola, Dominica, Antigua and St. Kitts. We did locally purchased shore excursions, mostly from the taxi vans that wait outside the port gates. They were much cheaper than the ships excursions and we were quite satisfied with them. This was a great itinerary and the weather mostly cooperated. The food was very good in both the main dining room and the buffet. The buffet breakfast had crepes and freshly made waffles, as well as the usual omlette station and other items. The pastries at cafe latte were pretty basic compared to the ones on other RCI ships and it seems the mudslide cookie has completely disappeared from the menu. One night the soft serve ice cream machine stopped working in the buffet and it seemed to totally perplex the staff as to who was responsible for fixing it. There seemed to be some kind of staffing issue throughout the ship. The staff conducting activities like trivia seemed more interested in themselves than the game or the passengers. They decided to have a cleaning crew clean the decks of the aft outdoors dining area right at dinner time one night and the head of the Windjammer Buffet seemed totally unaware of the fact that they had closed it. The Guest Services staff were excellent and worked hard to solve a recurring mystery noise at night in our cabin. Well done. The Captain was very personable and was in evidence throughout the ship. Overall this was a very good cruise, but the executive staff needs to impress on their crew the importance of guest satisfaction. Read Less

Cruise on the RCL Serenade of the Seas Feb 3rd, 2017 to Feb 13th, 2017 Well we were very excited to try a different Cruise Line and compare it to Princess, which is the only Cruise Line we have used thus far. The first day started off on a rocky note as we were whisked into the holding/customs building only to have to wait an hour and a half or more, to actually start to be processed into the ship. Something about the photo station not working so they had to do it when we boarded. Since we were directed to the back seats, everyone that came after us were put in front of us when those seats became empty so we were last onto the ship and people who just got there were processed before us. We then were finally let on the ship around 1pm or later and were directed to the Windjammer for lunch. It was an okay lunch and we were happy to eat and finally relax. We checked a couple of times for our luggage when the hall doors to our stateroom were unlocked but no luggage to be seen. We saw that someone else's luggage was in front of our #8639 stateroom door so we figured our luggage was elsewhere. We started to hunt for it and finally found it halfway down the hallway in front of someone else's door. If "Nino", our stateroom attendant, had been on shift he would have corrected the mistake immediately. Our stateroom attendant, Saturnino Badajos "Nino", introduced himself to us and gave us his business card. Our first impression of "Nino" was that he was a very quiet man with a great amount of class. He was very friendly, all the while being unassuming, a sweet man who I hugged and my husband shook hands with throughout the cruise. We liked him immensely and our thoughts and respect only increased throughout the cruise. This man should be promoted pronto. He is the type of customer relations staff that every cruise-ship, wanting great public relations, should strive for. He showed us where everything was and said to call if we needed anything. We didn't ask for much as we usually were up at the crack of dawn and to bed early. We love sunrises and sunsets. We unpacked and went to the dining room for dinner at 5pm. Since I have allergies to Shellfish, Fish, and Histamines, the head of the dining room looked after me and he was very patient and attentive. He made a copy of my allergy list from my doctor. We did have to wait for him to come when we ordered each course, as he was very busy. So is the life of a person who could die from shellfish. Better safe than dead. We ordered prime rib and it was terrible. A very bad and thick cut of meat with fat and hard gristle. Baked potato was very plain. Veggies were tasty. Buns were tasty. My husband loved his chocolate dessert but thought the coffee was the worst he had ever tasted. I ordered the banana creme brûlée and it was curdled with the crust overdone. We decided that the dining room food was not worth 3 hours of our time each day, including getting ready for dining and changing afterwords. We heard from many, many other guests who also disliked the dining room food. We also heard that the waiters were slow and frazzled. My husband and I didn't have that experience with our waiters or with the head of the dining room. We had tea later in the Windjammer and I was delighted to see that they had Twinings 100% English Breakfast BlackTea. They only had it the first day though, much to my disappointment. They made excuses why they didn't have it anymore, but they were excuses. Now to the Windjammer staff! They were amazing. The friendliest helpful staff we have ever had the pleasure to experience. Truly! The very tall thin young man with dark hair who was always at the grill cooking stir fry to filet mignon was exceptional. I wish I could remember his name. He is also very classy, cheerful, helpful, and should be promoted. He was very thoughtful when it came to my allergies. The food at the Windjammer was every bit as good as the dining room food but we wondered just how many ways they could dress up the mousse desserts. They did have the odd different desserts like the berry tart and key lime or apple pie. The big cake was also very good. The grill food was really good as was the omelette station in the morning. Bread selection great! Salad selection lacking. The world theme foods were interesting. Juices were watery. We found the pools were too small but the hot tubs were clean and hot! We found the ship was very clean and the staff were always cleaning and repairing each day, every day. We, at first were not happy that the Windjammer closed at 8:30pm as the Princess Line buffet was always open until 11:30 pm. But then we discovered the other spots to go to find drinks and snacks. I was very impressed with the Breakfast in the Solarium when I was up early for the sunrises. Great strawberry parfait. Coffee was still the worst I have ever had but the other foods were good. The ship Theatre singers were very good. The comedian and the Hypnotist were so bad that guests were leaving in droves. I felt sorry for them, in a way. We had a message on our phone that the excursion we booked for my favourite island, Dominica, was changed. We were not asked what we wanted to do we were just given the Hibiscus Falls instead of the Emerald Pool. We went down to the excursion desk and the rude woman ( a chunky girl with dark hair. Her name started with a J ), said snootily that she thought the Hibiscus Falls was a better choice. She then called her boss who told us Royal Caribbean had known about this for six weeks. We had booked all six excursions before Christmas as a present to each other and we could have made different arrangements if we had known. We then cancelled the Dominica excursion and after talking we then cancelled the others ( we had gone to the Tortola one already) because she was so rude and had a very bad attitude. She should not be in a position of customer relations. Unlike Princess Line, Royal Caribbean charges your Visa for the excursions when you book them. Princess charges you after you actually go on them. The staff on the customer relations main desk were great also. We didn't have an alcohol drink at all as they were $10 U.S. Plus 18% tax/gratuity. We brought empty Pepsi bottles and filled them with water from our room for our island walking and also brought our Tim Hortons Mugs so we could bring tea to our room. They did have takeout cups and lids. Our favourite spot was the back of the Windjammer which was open with a canvas top. I had to call the Royal Caribbean today as our $264 from the excursions we cancelled is not returned to our Visa yet. The nice young man said we were charged $12.39 for two bottles of water missing from the mini fridge in our room. I told him we didn't drink anything from the fridge, in fact didn't have a drink period on our cruise. He said he would reimburse the money to us. I asked who thought we drank the ships water and he said the staff who refills the fridges. I guess mistakes will be made with the rush to get ready for the next ship full of guests. The movies under the stars is a favourite thing for us. If only the staff cleaning the bar behind us could be a little quieter. Also the young staff men were standing around behind us chatting in there own language kind of loud. All in all we loved the fact that the ship was not over crowded and we could always find a quiet place to read and relax if we wanted to. We found that 95 % ,or more, of the staff were helpful and genuinely friendly. Hope this long review helps. Rose and Jim Read Less

The dates and ports worked for us. The weather was great, the ship, not so good. This was my 7th cruise and the amenities were the worst. To give you an idea of how they think about food.....they listed the main dining room as complimentary dining. The entertainment was woeful with the exception of the comedian. Zumba was great. Finding food after being in port was nearly impossible....only two stations open with three people serving. It's not the employees fault, definitely the corporation. The size of the ship made it manageable but there are too many negatives. Guest services and security during disembarkation at ports were nonexistent. I tried to get a wheelchair for my husband just to get him to the end of the port...you would have thought I was asking for the moon. Security said go to guest services and vice versa. Unfortunately, not all of the ports have private transport for the docks. It would be helpful if the cruise line could accommodate this. Read Less

Well...we have only started cruising for years ago. During that time we stayed loyal to Royal but I must say that the quality of the Serenade of the Seas was a bit...disappointing. It's an older ship and in need of renovation on a lot of things: The food in the Windjammer and the main dining room needs more variation! For the Windjammer, after 5 days of broccoli (which I like as a vegetable) you might want to change this and serve something else. Also the main dining room menu needs an update. We've had the same menu choice over and over again. Don't get me wrong, the food is good but get some variation in it! The entertainment was...kinda OK...although some variation is also needed: I mean, how many comedians, jugglers and wannabe singers can you take on an evening. There are so many good singers and performers in the world...why they always take the old and forgotten, I do not understand. On a previous cruise we once had a singer who took part in X-factor UK, he was awesome! Please, book more of those acts for your shows! They also had a group called the Music Makers who performed mostly in the Centrum...OMG, this is so NOT the quality we are used to! The older guy was mostly out of tune and he sounded like a cat meowing nervously. Up to now I did not know anyone who could kill an Abba-song...well, now I do. Staff was, as always, SUPERBE! Main dining room, room attendant and all other staff are ever so friendly and reliable. Itinerary was also awesome. We loved all the ports of call, St-Lucia, Aruba and Bonaire really impressed us in a good way. Read Less
