We’d booked the Mediterranean cruise onboard Freedom of the Seas & wanted to try out the Baltic & Russia cruise with Royal Caribbean. We found the ship smaller but enjoyable but having been on the larger ship Freedom of the Seas it felt like a downgrade. No soda dispenser machine & awkward to be asking at a bar for soda top ups. Highlight was the cinema & the excellent movies. Hardly anyone ever went into the crown pub it was also awkward walking through casino to get to other places. Onboard entertainment in Tropical theatre was average. The one shore excursion we booked via RC wasn’t great. The independent tours we did book online were more superior. A charge of about €245 was taken from my account despite having paid a final statement of over €600. Waiting to get this back. Overall I’ll consider trying another cruise company or going on a bigger ship with more facilities Read Less

We wanted to celebrate our 40 years of marriage. We did 2 consecutive cruises - Caribbean and then crossing the Atlantic ocean to do the second one including Azores, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland with final port Copenhagen. We enjoyed both cruises. The service was excellent as a whole. Entertainment and activities included events for all ages and interests. Performances in Tropical Theater were impressive. The cabin was attended twice a day, which you cannot experience even in the high class hotels, the food was good as well. Windjammer offers quite a variety of different cuisines. Food exceeded our expectations in term of quality. The best of service we received at Reflections in the evenings, we were served by Zhelio Hristov, who was very helpful and polite. The whole staff we got in contact was very friendly, we were impressed by its attention and attentiveness. We will certainly recommend Serenade of the Seas to our friends. Read Less

We are destination cruisers rather than loyalty cruisers. So we can compare the difference in cruise lines. We've sailed on Royal, Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian and Carnival. And this was a very nice cruise. It doesn't beat our best - the Norwegian Getaway -, but it was certainly worth the money. Embarkation was the best ever. There was no filling out paper work - just show your ticket and board. . Disembarking was confusing as the printed delivered document gave different information than the computer screen. It went quickly, though. We ate at Chops, Izumi and Giovanni's all of which were good. Surprisingly, we liked Izumi the best. I think because the waitress was so pleasant. If there were on thing we could complain about it would be the entertainment. There were a couple of good shows, but over all we felt it was greatly lacking. The service was excellent. We really enjoyed the Park Café as it was quiet enough to read or play cards. The hot tub needs to be replaced. There is only one in the Solarium and it is way behind the times. There were few children on the ship, I think we would try a different cruise line if we did it again so that we would have a fair measure. This is the longest cruise we have ever taken and found it enjoyable other than the lack of entertainment. It is embarrassing to say that we spent some time watching TV and we went to the Cinema on board. We would have preferred to see a good live show. In this area Norwegian is superior and it has more choices of restaurants. Read Less

My wife and I get to cruise once or twice per year, it is our light at the end of the tunnel. We love everything about cruising and this trip did not disappoint...mostly. Let's get the bad out of the way, this was the worst entertainment staff we have ever sailed with. They were professional, courteous and pleasant but man were they boring. Worse was the cruise staffed performers, they had on excellent singer we wished they would have featured more. The other singers and dancers were like a really bad high school production. The costumes were cheap and made at times little sense and the choreography very blah. That being said the rest of the entertainment was fantastic, every day and night the entertainment was great from the Ship's orchestra to the comics to the solo bar artists the Caribbean pool duo. But the stars of the ship was a pop band from Mexico called Switched On. They had incredible range and great charisma, they had everybody rocking in a very good way. Serenade is an older ship but incredibly well maintained. We love her size, because it feels more quaint, easy to figure out and you see the same crew often which breeds comfortable familiarity. We also don't love a tender process and didn't have to do any on this cruise. Getting ashore and back on was efficient and painless. Windjammer is where we did most breakfasts and lunches at it had great diversity of choices we have come to expect. I like the Indian fare and the Omelet Station is great, they have it down to a science. Main dining room Reflections is just fine for us and the My Time Dining. We were seated with Waiter and Assistant waiter Sinaga and Ian. Find these two, Sinaga is hard working sincere and does fantastic close up magic, Ian is equally hardworking, has a mischievous glint in his eye and is delightfully funny. The Itinerary was fantastic; St. Thomas-We have been to this beautiful Island a few times so we opted to take the ship excursion to St. John Trunk Bay and it was great. A fun Island Girl Ferry over and back with a friendly crew, then a short bus ride.Good snorkeling was included for novices in crystal waters and a gorgeous beach. really nice facilities with food and drink available for purchase. St Croix- Cruise excursion to the Whim Estate, an old sugar plantation with cultural and historical guides. Then to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens a very nice walk with an informed guide, took some pics for ideas in my Florida garden. Then to the Captain Morgan distillery because Cruzan was closed. This part of the tour was mostly sales, however the staff were amazingly friendly and the rum tasting...well it was an intoxicating venture and the gift/liquer store prices were very good. Antigua- Ship excursion and short bus trip to Ffryes Beach, again crystal clear water and beautiful beach. Some tent shops with very polite salespeople and not pushy at all. Ffryes Beach Bar/ Dennis Restaurant where two drinks and a very tasty lunch was provided. St. Kitts- Research told me to pick a tour once disembarked, and it was spot on. Look for All Weather Tours run by Franklin, it is all you need to do. 30 years on the police force and corrections now turned to tour guide. $20 a piece gets you a comfortable open air, narrated bus ride by someone in love with his country and impassioned to share it. The tour hits all the highlights except the fort. He also carries a bar and mixes some mean cocktails. If you think you can hang ask for the Ting with a Sting" or his delicious "All Weather Rum Punch", just know your limits. Next time we go we will book him again, it was that much fun. Our favorite stop on this itinerary by far. St. Maarten- Ship excursion 6 Jeeps with walkie-talkie narration. a Good guide who was able to keep us together and handled some adversity very well. You have to drive aggressively which was a blast but one of our jeeps had an incident with a tourist's vehicle in which the driver who was to drive to drunk. This was our least favorite destination, it is crowded, not very friendly and ridiculously expensive. Not a fan of either side of the Island. Read Less

The food was very good and we had more then enough choices. Everything was clean. The entertainment was great. The comedians had us laughing so hard and the dancers were very good. They made sure we were aware of all that was happening so we wouldn't miss things. Getting on and off the ship was pretty easy. No big delays. Most of the passengers we met were friendly and interesting. We will definitely be booking another cruise in the future. May e a different destination and ship so we can check them all out!! I guess the only thing I can say on the "down" side is there were soooooo many jewelry stores. They were everywhere lol. All in all it was a fantastic trip we will share with everyone. We had a balcony and will never have less. It was great to wake up to and go to bed after sitting out there for a while Read Less

I wanted to take my elderly mother on a calm cruise as a cruise was on her bucket list. When I boarded the ship I ask if I could rent a wheelchair for my mother I was declined do to the face I did not make arrangements when I booked the reservation. I didn’t think we would need one 3 mo prior to the trip. I was spoken to TERRiBLE by the security personal. After we boarded the ship an after a 2 hour wait to get in our room I was told it was mandatory we attend the safety drill procedure. I could not take my elderly mom there with walking disability down the stairs so I had her stay in the room while I attended.. My mother there has Dementia also. When I returned to the room my mother was not there. I went to the hallway an ask the cabin Stew Ricardo if he had seen my mother.? Ricardo stated he went into the room (I assume to clean as it was not very clean when we arrived) an he saw he sitting on the bed with a blanket. Ricardo then said she said she was hungry then she left the room. I told him I needed to find her she has dementia. I looked through halls of our floor an I found her safe an sound. I was then paged by the security personal. I went to guest services an was invited to an office of the security personal. The female security officer and the male officer spoke to me HORRIBLE!!!!!! The female officer stated the cabin stew stated he found my mother in the room wrapped in a blanket laying under the bed. Complete total LIE. First of all my mother would not b able to get on the floor much less under the bed. Second, ileven if that were true...why would he leave her there?.,I told them that was impossible!!! They then told me the cruise line was never t responsible for my mother and I was not to leave her alone. I told them I would not have left her alone had it not been for their safety procedure an the caregiver who was suppose to be on the trip with us had cancelled the day before., I was shocked humiliated over they way I was treated. Also I ask guest services if I could rent a wheelchair was declined from for the ship and also declined for shore excursions an just walking in the towns when we docked so our entire trip was spent on the ship except for one day we left the ship for Halifax an I thought maybe I could rent a cab. My mother had a very difficult time even walking down the ramp to the port. A very nice man who works for Hop on Hop off ask if we needed anything I explained I wanted my mother to tour the city was unless we hired a cab it wasn’t going to work out. He said if we wanted to take the Hop on Hop off they would help me get her on an off. We did do that an we just stayed on the bus but at least she was able to see the city. This was the only time during this vacation someone treated my mother with kindness and respect. I feel my mother was discriminated against several times by the Cruise Line an will never take another Royal Caribbean Cruise again. Your cruise line should be ashamed. Read Less

My husband and I had a wonderful time on our cruise. All of the personnel that we dealt with, from our cabin steward to our restaurant staff were wonderful to deal with. We had a wonderful time at all of the activities, but most especially the 80's Dance Party. Our weather was perfect. We feel that the food was not always at a high standard (i.e., occasionally not as hot as it could have been and the steaks were sometimes not tender). We do feel that everyone on the ship went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our cruise. We also especially enjoyed the piano bar, especially Danny. The shore excursions were the only area that we had an issue. Halifax (Peggy's Cove/Titanic Graveyard) - Peggy's Cove was more than we could ever have dreamed of. I wish we had picked an excursions that was only that stop. We only landed up having about 45-50 minutes, so there was no time to go into the store, get food, or see the town. We would have liked to have time to sit on the rocks and just relax. We did have a huge issue with the bus service. It was very warm (80's) and the air conditioning on the bus was either not working or working poorly. People were complaining and asking them to turn up the air conditioning, especially since the windows did not open. I started to feel so sick that I thought I was going to faint. The next day we ran into other people that said they they almost fainted also. It was terrible and ruined the rest of the excursion. New Brunswick (Hop On/Hop Off Big Pink Bus) - We started out very disappointed with the bus service. We had to have waited almost 1 1/2 hours for the initial bus to pick us up in the parking lot. The parking lot was full of people, standing in direct sunlight on a very warm day, waiting (people in wheelchairs, with canes, etc.). The bus service was poorly run. Otherwise the tour was okay. The Skywalk was a little disappointing and was much smaller than the picture. We were done in 15 minutes. Bar Harbor (An Intimate Look at Acadia National Park) - This tour was the highlight of our cruise. Despite the fact that Immigration showed up an hour late and caused a commotion with all of the tours that had to wait for their passengers, our tour of Acadia was wonderful! It was even more beautiful than we imagined. We had a wonderful time in Bar Harbor. Overall, despite some disappointment with our shore excursions, our cruise was a wonderful experience and we would love to go again in the not very distant future. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary plus we got a good price with Planet cruise. The cabin was lovely and spacious. Staff were very good. Food was good and the bars were excellent. We bought the drinks package. This was worth it as the drinks are pricey. The only negative was the queuing to enter St Petersburg. This was not helped by RC excursion team insisting that their excursions go first. My advice just leave the ship ASAP. No one was stopped. We had an excellent tour of St Petersburg with Alla tours. Our guide Pauline was excellent. Other passengers were complaining about the ships excursions. We were a party of 5 with 3 cabins. We all had a brilliant time. We made our own way around Tallin, Riga and Helsinki. It was easy to get around. Would recommend this trip for all ages. You'll have A fab time. Read Less

We just finished 3 B2B cruises that started in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. We crossed the Atlantic and the first segment terminated in Copenhagen. From there we did a Norwegian fjords cruise taking us back to Copenhagen. Followed by a Dave Koz charter cruise to the Balkans. This was 31 days onboard the Serenade of the Seas. We changed cabins with every segment. That's the background, here's my impressions. The crew was fantastic, they were friendly, attentive to our needs and requests. And by the end of the 3rd cruise, they were treating us like family. The meals in the restaurant were better prepared that those we've experienced on Princess. We used anytime dining with a reservation. Because of this we typically got the same waiters. When we missed our reservation and they had to put us at another table, we typically got a different waiter. Because of this we did experience different waiters and I've got to say that there's a wide range in abilities in the wait staff. Some waiters were very good at getting things done efficiently and getting the correct plate to the right diner. Other waiters were slow and frequently confused dishes. The cabins were nicely appointed. We had superior balcony rooms. My only complaint would be the shower. And who doesn't complain about the shower. It's a tube shaped appliance that doesn't give you much room to bend over and scrub your toes. There's one more thing, make sure you pack some shampoo and conditioner. These items are no longer provided unless you're in a suite. Had I known, I would have grabbed them from the hotel we stayed in the night before departing on the cruise. We only booked excursions through Royal Caribbean. We booked when the excursions went on sale and at that point the prices were as good or better than any of the 3rd party excursion companies. All of the excursions we took were well done. Feedback from other cruisers that took some of the other excursions were similar. One note about one of our stops in the Baltic, we spent a day in St. Petersburg Russia. Near the end of the excursion we stopped at a shopping mall for the opportunity to purchase some souvenirs. Here's my advice, stay on the bus. The prices are ridiculous. There are several shops at the cruise terminal with much better prices and some of the vendors are quite willing to bargain. One item we were hoping to pickup was a stacking Christmas tree. Thankfully, they had some of these on the ship so we already knew what a reasonable price was. We couldn't find anything on shore that even came close. Guess what, we bought ours onboard. In the end, we had a great cruise. Read Less

The dining and cabin services was excellent. We enjoyed the live entainment and games. The ports visited was second to none, we enjoyed the different culture and history, and the excursions was informative. The time spend on land should be a little longer so one can appreciate the history and lifestyle. Excellent variety of excursions at the various ports of call although some were quite expensive. The crew members was very friendly and always willing to assist is any way. The ship is very clean and well maintained for its age. The meals in WJ was good, but some consideration could be given for those who do not eat beef and pork, bur overall the meals was excellent. We enjoyed the evening shows and events, it was enjoyable. We chose the serenade because of the great destinations and with a 7 year old girl it felt like a convenient way to get around and see Scandinavia and Russia. Having said that we were very conscious that the ship itself was fairly old and small and we’d read reviews about everything that has gone wrong from embarkation to food to the service. But we were so pleasantly surprised right through the programme. Getting on the ship was an absolute breeze. We were taken into lunch at the Windjammer and by the time we’d finished the rooms were ready. The rooms also was just about right and clean with a cozy balcony. It was serviced twice a day with my child’s bunker bed put down during the evening turn down service. Our daughter absolutely loved the kids club activities in the adventure ocean club (9 am to 12pm; 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 10pm). So much so that she didn’t join us in a couple of ports. This gave us ample time to lounge around, check the 16 bars without having to worry about her. This was such a blessing and the team at adventure ocean where thorough professionals providing fun educational ways to keep the children engaged. The service also was really exceptional and personalised. We got the same table in the dining room. But also in Windjammer. The staff is from all over and friendly and ever willing to engage in conversations. The food was amazing all through and surprisingly we did not get bored although we didn’t do any of the speciality dining. The staff is particular about hiegene and everyone follows through with sanitised hands. No cases of Nora virus was reported on the ship which was the other thing we were worried about. The other impressive feat was the way a helicopter landed to fly someone out. It was just the most amazing sight. And the copter looked too large but we didn’t feel a thing when it landed or took off. And there wasn’t any fuss at all. Entertainment on the ship was also quite nice in the tropical theatre, in the centrum and the safari club. Some of the home grown productions are quite good. The team really makes an effort and it comes through. We didn’t do shore excursions with the exception of Russia for visa. In all other places we were offered a shuttle service into the city centre for 10 dollars. There was no hassle getting out or in whatsoever and no preference was given to people on the shore excursions as we had read. All in all without having to spend on any additionals the cruise turned out to be a lovely experience and we are considering more such cruises. We will in all probability sail on the royal Caribbean. The ship offers gorgeous views of the sea with glass everywhere. Read Less

My wife and I decided to go on the 7 Night Scandinavia And Russia Cruise. It was awesome!!! The ship, while a little on the dated side, was clean and the crew was fantastic. We had an Aft facing Cabin on Deck 8 and it was very nice. As ours was on a corner (8168), we had a little bigger balcony. There is plenty of storage in the cabin. Our TV had issues, but they worked to get it fixed quickly. The bathroom is small but bigger than I expected. We did "My Time" dining but only ate in the Reflection dining room on the Formal Nights and one breakfast. If you want to wear a tux, I recommend renting on from RC prior to the cruise. No need to pack one. The meals in the Reflection was very good. I think they could have added a little more variety, but what we had was very tasty. The service for dinners was fantastic. They even brought us out a special dessert for our anniversary!!!! The breakfast in the Reflection was not very good. They throw you at a table and the service was very, very slow. When we got our food it was not very warm. The rest of our dinners were in the Windjammer, which was very good as buffets go. My wife figured out that Room Service is very cheap ($9.50)!! We ended up doing Room Service for our breakfasts which helped on Excursion days. We spent quite a few evenings in the Pub. They had excellent service and one of my favorite beers. The singer most nights did requests and we did a lot of sing alongs with the rest of the audience. We did watch one show in the main theater. It was nice but not memorable. Excursions were very good. The only one that was disappointing was in Stockholm. Due to the drought they were having we could not go into the canals (not RC fault). So we just cruised around the main channel. The tour guide did a great job. We then were supposed to take a bus tour of old town, but due to construction, we ended up sitting in traffic. Very disappointed. The Tallinn Old Town and Beer tour is very good. They mark it as "Strenuous" but it is not for us mid 50 year olds. Saint Petersburg was very good. We did the Grand Petersburg and Hermitage. We were lucky as we were the second tour into the Hermitage that day. Saw a lot of the city and they take you shopping at a big tourist trap place. Prices were good though, but get in line early to pay and stand your ground. A lot of line cutting. Helsinki was also good. We did the Town Tour and Ice Bar. Both were great. All in all, if I had to do it over again, I would do Stockholm on our own but the others were good to be on a tour (it is required in Saint Petersburg unless you have a tourist visa). Getting on and off the boat was very easy. Embarkation Day, we had a very smooth experience, but don't expect your bag brought to your cabin. Ours were way down the corridor from our cabin. We had very little issues on Excursions days getting on and off the boat. We only had one long line and that was in Saint Petersburg. On our return to Copenhagen, things went so smoothly, we were off the boat and in a cab in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend having your bags handled going off the ship (unless you are traveling light). The elevators are packed so you have to lug everything down stairs. We only had to go from 8 to 4 to our waiting area and then down to two but it was still a workout lugging our small bags. I was very pleased with this cruise. We are going on a Christmas Cruise with RC on the Jewel of the Seas. We are looking forward to it. Read Less

Food was excellent, lots of choices, kids program amazing...kept my oldest occupied with waterslide races, scavenger hunts and tons of family activities....kids pool was great as there weren't a ton of kids on board so wasn't crowded but more pool options would be beneficial, fitness area was clean and lots of equipment to use! Shore excursions were great, used the royal Caribbean ones for Antigua, St Lucia, Curacao and Aruba, did beaches as we were travelling with 2 kids....beaches were great and excursions were long enough to keep everyone busy and gave time to experience the sand and beautiful location but not so long that you had to buy food or kids getting to tired. Would go again in a heart beat. Location of this stateroom is great...away from noise, above the life boats far enough from elevators.....rooms are amazingly quiet. Read Less

We chose this cruise not for the ship but for the destination. Had to travel 3.5 hours from our home to Fort Lauderdale and we were nervous wrecks by the time we got there. Park & Go was GREAT! Extremely helpful and accommodating. Highly suggest using them if you need to park your vehicle. Check in was awesome. Took no time at all and we were onboard. First snafu: we requested a handicap accessible room and what we got was FAR from it. They put us in what was supposed to be a Large Ocean View cabin. If that was a large cabin, I'd hate to see what the others were. We tried to get my husbands scooter in there and there was absolutely NO WAY we could get around that room. We went to the Guest Services desk and they could not do anything due to the ship being booked full. My husbands electric scooter sat by the elevator down the hall the entire cruise. In Barbados there was supposed to be a complimentary shuttle to assist people from the ship to where the excursions meet. There was even a SIGN informing this! We asked a RC representative standing near the sign where we picked the shuttle up and she said there wasn't one. We pointed out the sign and she mumbled something and pointed in the direction where she told us to walk to. On the 3 block walk to the dock we saw a golf cart pass by and stopped it. IT WAS THE COMPLIMENTARY SHUTTLE. We asked its driver to please inform the RC rep that there is indeed a shuttle. The food was "ok". The buffet in the Windjammer offered lots of selections but the food was terrible. The eggs tasted like powdered eggs, the biscuits & gravy gravy tasted like flour. Even the food in the one and only dining room was meh. Specialty Dining is the bomb!! We went to Chops Grille for my husbands birthday and then again a second time. It was great! Giovanni's was good and Izumi was so-so. Spent most of our sea days in the Solarium pool which was awesome except for people hogging the chairs even though there are signs posted everywhere no to. The Park Café was a nice alternative to the Windjammer and the stuffy dining rooms. One problem we encountered the entire cruise was 2 younger couples hogging the stairs and railings going into the pool. And when we asked them to move they did so but with an attitude. They also brought a personal radio into the pool (area) and had it playing loud music we didn't care for. We asked the Life Guard on duty to say something and ONLY 1 TIME HE DID. This continued through the entire cruise. The entertainment was meh, too. DO NOT go to the Cinema Theater if you want to see a movie. Cramped, only seats 40 people and the sound system is lacking terribly. Our room steward Leonel was great. We had fresh in our bucket every day and the room was immaculate. We'll do RC again despite this cruise's shortcomings. Read Less

We have been cruising with Royal Caribbean for 10 years. This was the worst ship for families we have ever experienced. First, no babysitting service. Every cruise we have gone on has had babysitting service. This did not and they are not able to accommodate. We prepaid to eat in the specialty restaurants every night thinking that we'd have sitter service. The kids rooms were old and out-dated. The chef at the Italian Restaurant has some kind of fetish with mushrooms, so if you don't like mushrooms your menu selection is very limited. There is no section for suite quests at the pool. The suite chairs are far removed from the pool and you can't use them if you want to watch your kids. That said, they don't police the chairs that well. People come down and reserve their chairs at 7 even though there is a 30 minute period where if you don't show up you lose your chair. The entertainment they have playing on the movie screen above the pool is completely inappropriate for children. Instead of playing something nice, like a movie or something, they re-played x-treme sports videos, in some cases, showing people being carted off a mountain with injuries (really nice for a 4 and 9 year old to see). While their were families on this cruise, most were older, so they didn't have much patience for children. Read Less

To start with my wife and I are pretty easy to keep happy, yet they failed in every way possible. While we have enjoyed RC cruise lines in the past, this one was a FAIL in all aspects and not just by our opinion but also by MANY in asked for comments by others. The Ship was clean and on time getting to and leaving ports, and while a good thing, that should not be the best thing about the trip. Where to start on the list of problems is difficult but here's some of the highlights...our suite's mini fridge/bar was broken and actually making items HOT so they quickly removed it and replaced it 4 (FOUR) days later. Our at port activities booked through RC (one every port) with the exception of one were Late to start, early to return, poorly planned and over priced, here's an example...At the last port we booked a Jeep and Beach ADVENTURE about 4 1/2 hours, you drive your own (group's) 5 passenger NEW jeep, convoy style to historic and viewpoints, do some off roading on the dunes, and arrive at a beauty of a private beech where you'll have crystal clear waters swimming, beach loungers, umbrella, cocktails, and food. after a couple hours a bus will pick you up, make a stop for a little local shopping/refreshments, then return you to the ship...sounds Great right?...REALITY Late start, about 45 min waiting on the dock in the sun standing in a line, 10 minute march to a BUS depot where you board a SMALL and over PACKED bus...some sat/stood in the walk way. About 45 min later (with people packed in like sheep) we arrived at a parking lot with a view that was less than breath taking, people scrambled back to secure a seat and we went to the "other beach", where they had ran out of loungers, seats, umbrellas, But had LOT'S of rusty bottle tops and broken glass in the sand to keep u occupied as you BAKED in the sun and swam in thefairly murky water of the about 20 yards deed and 75 yards long beach (along with about 200 other people). I was offered a BROKEN chair (1) for our group of 3 for $15 dollars US, and you COULD NOT have beer or cocktails as our Jeeps (that we would be the drivers of) would be arriving...then the self drive home in convoy style, heavy traffic (literally their rush hour time) where we stopped 3 times for about 10 min to SMELL the stench of open sewage at areas wiped out by the hurricane. After a stressfull hour driving we stopped at a what was less that a flea market for 15 minutes then rushed back to the ship with 5 minutes to spare before scheduled departure......Here's the KICKER...MOST of us raised some hell at the excursion center on the boat...the next day we were told the best they could do was a 17.00 dollar US refund!!!!...and I don't even want to start with the quality of the "SHOWS" on the boat they tried but...hahaha not in a good way. That was our last day at port, and my last trip with them. Read Less

Like the smaller ships, and enjoyed the ports in the Southern Caribbean although 5 in a row left us tired and worn out. Should break up the port days with a day at sea. Staff always friendly, guest services always promptly answered your calls with satisfaction to your inquiries. Main dining room food quality great, service was SLOW though and not always did you receive what you ordered. Onboard selection of entertainers very good, and on-board 'company' dancers/singers always put on quality shows. Ship is old, casino very old, but ship well kept and clean. Avoid Bingo. Embarking quick, dis-embarking had major glitch and 1hr delay with port personnel not ships fault. Will not go on this ship again, not enough 'there' to want to go back to. Excursion staff very friendly and will go out of their way/the extra mile. We had mixed up our port dept time, and would have missed the excursion otherwise had they held the bus for us and had one of their personnel WALK us there! It turned out to be the best excursion boat trip too! RCI did not impress us as being so much better or worse than other lines to either avoid or only cruise with them either. Read Less

WE CHOOSE THIS CRUISE TO CELEBRATE OUR 20 ANNIVERSARY, , This was a cruise leased by Royal Caribbean, and that's why we took it because we have traveled 5 times with them and we know their service. The process of boarding very cooperative, lunch ok, dinner was without reservation very fast the attention of the waiters excellent as always, very attentive. There was no package of drinks which does not seem fair to me and the price of the expensive liquor in any side I paid for a glass of process $ 14 very good schedule for Zumba classes, the instructors very fun. that day the concert had to change time because of problems of the time was understandable, the concert ended and we went to the main dining room and very well organized very fast and the excellent service was open buffet, then the excellent rumba good service security, Read Less

My wife and I just returned from a 12 night cruise aboard The Serenade of The Seas leaving out of Ft. Lauderdale on 2-26-18. It was a wonderful cruise but did have some hiccups. We LOVE the smaller ships as we have been on the larger ones (Anthem, Oasis, Quantum) and feel they are much too big with too many people and the "personal" touch is just not there. Well this ship was small and to are liking but was missing two of our most favorite things when cruising. First of all their hot tubs were terrible. Not hot at all many days and had absolutely NO BUBBLES. When we complained we were told it would be looked at but after speaking directly with the pool maintenance folks, it was discovered that these hot tubs have very few jets and 1 motor...just not powerful...that sucked! Secondly the casino was extremely outdated. Old, old machines. Really? You can refurbish the ship but not refurbish the casino? There were only maybe 6 fairly interactive modern machines in the entire casino and a husband and wife monopolized play on these machines all hours of the day. They were there so much I don't think they even ate the entire trip!!! On the plus side our balcony was so spacious and beautiful...we had a Deluxe Ocean View Balcony room and it was fantastic! We spent many a night out on our balcony watching the moon, sipping wine, and listening to the roar of the waves. Herbert, our greeter in the Windjammer Café was the star of the show!! He was great! Always wearing a smile every day and saying "hello my friend!!" Every ship should have a Herbert!!! The cruise itself was great..destinations were enjoyable but we would not go back o this ship until they update their casino and their hot tubs!! Read Less

We've been on the Serenade several years ago on a Mediterranean cruise (R/T Barcelona with Cannes, Florence, Naples, Rome, Venice, Ravenna, and Dubrovnik as the ports ). The ship is just the right size for us. The dates and ports were good as there were two new ports (St. Croix and Martinique) and favorite old ports: St. Thomas, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. We also like the Solarium pool area, where we spent most of our on board time.. The dining in the Windjammer is great with the circular counters so you never are really standing on a long line. The Centrum was very popular and mostly extremely difficult to find seating. We often observed the Centrum activities from deck nine where we had our cabin. Wish that the Centrum was a bit larger with more seating on decks four and five. All in all a lovely ship and a great cruise. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it covered Christmas and New Years. The ship was very short staffed. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful but way overworked. Could never get anyone's attention to get what we needed in dining room. Saw the waiter when they took your order and brought the food 30 minutes later but then never again not even to remove the dirty dishes so we stacked them on the next table. Tacky but didn't know what else to do. No waiters in sight around pool area. In general in every area of the ship it was understaffed and obvious. I guess that saves save money for RCL. Chop's at $200.00 was a terrible waste of money. Don't pay for drink card because no will waite on you. The fruits and vegetables were not fresh most of the time. Bed in room were like sleeping on sidewalk and no shampoo or conditioner in the room. All together a really disappointing cruise. Read Less

This was a new itinerary for us and an amazing deal. The Seas were very rough the 1st half of the cruise, but that's out of anyone's control. Our cabin was midship on deck 8 with a balcony and was perfectly located on the ship. Central to everything and never having to go outside to go anywhere. There was a large door at the entrance to our cabin area which greatly muffled any sound from the later hour activities. The sauna and steam room was complimentary and never crowded. It would have been helpful to have a timer in this room or an attendant to explain how to use these rooms. It was not staffed at all that I could tell. The ship was in beautiful condition, clean, and very detailed. Even the wall art on the stairways was changed daily providing lots of interest. The food was great compared to other ships and the design of the buffet with round stations and separate drink bars kept people orderly and never felt overly crowded. The selection of movies shown was great....but why they keep the lights on during the movie was annoying. Also a popcorn machine would have been a nice touch. Entertainment was good in the main theatre but cancelled one night... never found out why nor were we informed ahead of time. An announcement would have been appreciated. We showed up 1/2 ahead to get good seats but heard from other passengers that the movie Elf was being shown instead....very disappointed. Although good, there was a lot of piano entertainment and would have enjoyed more variety. The casino machines were the tightest ever....although I did hear one guest won a few thousand dollars, tried the slots several times, but a $20 bill in a quarter machine lasted 5 minutes and no play back.....got bored quickly. Never saw anyone "on a roll" the entire 11 days. The solarium was a wonderful place for adults to relax around the pool and hot tub, or just sit on a padded lounge chairs without the loud poolside music. Even the pool tables outside the Safari club were specially balanced to accommodate the movement of the ship. Made playing very fun! On the down side, smoking is still allowed in the casino. And vocals of the centrium entertainers was lacking..... many times you couldn't understand the words of the songs and just murdered many of the tunes. Overall, our experience was fabulous. Thank you! Read Less

Our server in the main dining room, Rody was the best and her assistant Savio couldn't have been more attentive. Jason our bar server was the best always had us laughing..an awesome personality.. Herbert in the Windjammer always had a smile and friendly greeting. Our captain was top notch and very personable. Carly, the cruise director was one of the best. We dined in the main dining room every night and couldn't complain about anything. The entertainment was good for the most part. We thoroughly enjoyed the music of Island Vibz...very lovely young men.The 70s Disco night party was a lot of fun. We were very lucky to have great weather throughout our cruise. Nice coming home with a tan. We will definitely take this cruise again in the not too distant future. Read Less

Chose this cruise before the hurricanes, lost most of our ports with THEIR selections. Martinique was a total waste, they didn't even promote shore excursions or shopping, jus dumped you off on your own. St Lucia next was nice, then a short sail to Barbados. It was their Independence Day, everything was closed, we hired a taxi to a beach, could not get there, streets were closed for parade. You think they could have switched ports to not arrive on a holiday when they are so close? The entertainment was woefully lacking, very ameturish, and lack of variety. If you liked that specific genre, maybe you could endure, we tired and headed back to our balcony to enjoy the moonlight sea. The food was lacking, named to make you interested, however it was tasteless and small portions. The menu was the same each night, very few changes, and the first cruise I ever saw fried chicken on the menu. On the 8th evening the menu listed lobster tails, however the plate arrived with 1/2 of a tiny poorly prepared lobster. Upon asking what we were being served we were advised they ran low, so they divided the portions rather than substitute. The deck posted menu listed items, and then the table menu provided was different!!!! Purchased a beverage package, soda, and every fountain on board served flat beverages. Explored the ship to find a proper drink, not available, complained, told if the first night I complained they could have done something, ended up drinking ice water. Read Less
