we choose the cruise to celebrate my sons 60th. Birthday The whole experience was horrific I had previous experience of Costa cruises some six years ago so was confident that the cruise would meet our need at this time. The cabin was very small but clean and maintained daily. The food and service in the restaurants was a very poor standard. The evening dinner in the restaurant was served cold and most evenings returned to be reheated. At other times water was not available at lunch times and had to be purchased. The restaurant staff were the most incompetent I have ever encountered. We waited up to an hour every evening before the aperitif was served. There were hordes of customers everywhere all describing the service as disgraceful, incompetent and staff who were working away beyond their capabilities. I complained to the Maitre de's on numerous occasions but that was a waste of time and energy. this was the most horrific experience of my cruising experience ( all 22 of them )11 Read Less

Chose this cruise for the itinerary. Was anxious to see some of the parts and take shore excursions. Embarkation process was very uncoordinated; staff seemed confused with process. Ship was ok, cabin with balcony, very close quarters. Food and dining: very, very disappointed in quality of food served throughout ship; buffets to specialty dining. Food was never hot. A lot of wasted food because it was simply unpalatable. Customer service and shore excursion personnel were often rude and abrasive. If you had a complaint or needed help with something you were met with some not so very nice attitude. Not customer friendly. Shore excursions were horrendous. Please do not waste your money on NCL shore excursions. Do the Hop-On, Hop-Off yourself for 12 to 15 euro and save money. Excursions often departed late which cut into excursion time. Often taken to a destination and "there you go, now you are on your own". Excursions were not as depicted in online summary/description. Best thing of the whole trip was our cabin steward. He was so accommodating and pleasant. Alexander was always on hand to assist with whatever you may have asked of him. Will not travel NCL again. Read Less

I just took the 10 Days Regal Princess out of New York last November and had the best food service and selection so I gather a group of friends to do the 10 Days Euro Explorer cruise and what a disappointment! Everyday the breakfast buffet is exactly the same! Where is the smoke salmon? If is behind the station and you have to ask for it! Water down coffee and hard as a rock toast! Lunch buffet is no better unless you go down to the dinning room and catch hell from their waiter staff and yells at you when you do not sit at the right table. No flexibility when you want to eat before 8pm or else buffet is your option! The ship was supposed to be recently refurbished but the cabin still looked aged and only new TV and bed. But I must say the bed is really good and comfortable to sleep on! TV has very good movie selection but you can not check the ship's day program and only via your cellphone or mobile device... why not? Who is their IT Program Director that can't even come up with this basic function? The TV is HD but the in-house program that talked about the shore information recorded from the live sessions are not so you will see all the fizzy video the you can't even read the wording they are showing on shore info. As a seasoned cruiser on many different lines and ships i have just returned from a ten day cruise on NCL SPIRIT. I last used this ship about six years ago on the same tour. At which time we thought it to be an excellent cruise with all conditions and services meeting high standards. Alas what a letdown, the food appeared to be mainly for Asians several types of rice and pasta with meats mainly having the Asian twist. For instant there were a dearth of potatoes, you had chips every meal, baked potatoes once and some “black” potatoes (natural). Cheese was another rare item it appeared lunch time with salads (cut small) but none was available at dinnertime for desert. The majority of the food was tepid so by the time you ate it was cold. Breakfast time there were at least three egg stations catering for all tastes – until you wanted ‘Poached’ eggs when you had to go to a special one, heaven forbid you asked for eggs Benedict this you were charged for and on the last day they did do any –when a chef was asked why he replied it was company policy. A good point was the presence of a coffee machine (good for making tea) in the cabin. A big downside was room service which is normally free (at least to midnight) is charged for at over $7 per request. Our balcony cabin was good although we had a single fold –up fouton which was excellent as a mini settee but it did take up a lot of room. The toilet, washroom and shower were separate the toilet and shower each having a solid door. Opposite was a large wardrobe with plenty of hangers and a couple of dressing gowns also a stack of shelve tucked away at the side. There was a mini bar which had a lock on it I can only assume being a non-drinker, the room maid had the key. The TV was awkward to operate and had the usual channels plus lots of foreign stations leaving us with mainly the news and one film channel. On our first day at sea ‘NORO VRUS’ myself and my wife succumbed and spent the next five days in quarantine. We soon got over the sickness and diarrhoea but were only allowed to eat plain boiled rice and grilled chicken accompanied with beef broth, dry toast and jelly which was cold and had to twiddle our thumbs or sleep. Apparently we were informed some people got fed up and went to the buffet which resulted in the spread being up graded to a serious outbreak.. When we were released on day six we found more ‘agro’ the passengers weren’t allowed to touch anything not handed to them. All cruet sets were removed you had to queue up at a drinks terminal and receive small packets; sauces were doled out in little pots. Queuing for drinks took forever, not because the boys were slow it was a continuous queue whether you wanted a bag of sugar or salt, or 6 glasses of water and four glasses of orange juice. Even here so many people started reaching for things under the barrier that they moved the barrier so far from the food that people were moving around the food in single file. One respite was the dining rooms but even here you had to ask for bread to go with the meal and of course the condiments came in little sachets. And all the time in the buffet and dining rooms when a passenger finished his table was striped and ‘Sanitized’. The excursions seem to go alright, the ship sent out cleaners to sanitize the buses even the ‘hop-on, hop-off bus’ was done. The sanitization of the ship seemed continuous with all rails, door knobs in fact anything which could be touched continually coated with cleaning foam. At every entrance and exit was a waiter with a squirt bottle using the phrase ‘washy washy’ and giving you a dose of anti-bacterial spray. Forgive my rants, please check your travel insurance make sure you’ve got ‘Cruise extra’ otherwise you’ll not be able to claim for incarceration. Finally I think it unlikely for me to use Norwegian Cruise Lines again Read Less

When we arrived at our cabin, there was blood on one of the pillows. Also, the ship did not appear to have been deep-cleaned. P&O do not seem to cater well for those with disabilities. It was difficult for my wife to get around the cleaning trolly using her walker. This was because the towels stuck out from the sides. When we docked at Tenerife, the gangway was far too steep for my wife to use her walker to disembark. This resulted in her feeling extremely frightened and having a panic attack. She had to be carried down by three of the stewards. Our holiday was completely spoiled by the men painting the ship. We could not go out on deck. The paint fumes were spread throughout the ship via the air conditioning. This is the third ship we have been on this year and the worst. We loved the Ventura. My wife and I had to visit the ship’s Doctor and several weeks after returning home I am still on medication and this is under review. As previously indicated we are both filled with sadness and extreme disappointment that the holiday we had both looked forward to for a long period of time was completely and utterly ruined because of this unfortunately timed paint job. They did state at reception that it was safe but if it were safe then why were the workmen wearing protective masks? Also the bar staff seemed on edge and this resulted in a tense environment. However, this does not reflect upon the bar staff who were very good indeed. I would never eat a steak anywhere else on board except the glass house. However, this cost us extra each time we had a meal there. The cruise cost enough money, so surely people should be able to eat anywhere on board? Read Less

I am afraid our experience was bad firstly the majority of travellers on board were loud, and had little or no manners, the entertainment was very poor ie the music in Beverly Lounge was very loud and of poor sound quality and musically poor, the theatre show which was supposed to be the highlight show was dreadful as lip synch and poor dance routines was all that was offered many people along with us walked out, the guitar player in the Lord Nelson sounded if he was in agony, in another lounge the piano player was good playing to backing tracks however, he was unable to reach high notes when singing pushing the microphone away, these observations were also observed by many others who we met, overall the entertainment was of poor standard. The stateroom cabin was just about ok ie small and the toilet was not working on many occasions i reported it several times. The ship seemed to be full and we had difficulty getting sunbeds at times and there was no area to get away from the incessant loud chanting and noise coming from the pool area not at all relaxing. The food was just about all right except for crowds descending on the on the buffet at times particularly Italians who were brash and loud, the dreadful background music and the Cruise Directors loud announcements who decided meal times was best to make announcements which few could understand because of the noise level was very uncomfortable and annoying. The trips ashore were just about alright except for Dubrovnik which was vastly overcrowded because of the amount of cruise ships because of this and the heat we immediately left and went back to the ship. I have cruised before in the Caribbean with MSC Divina which was better not by much however, I would not recommend MSC based on our experience with them. Click &GO ie Edel was very good to arrange an alternative flight because of fog delay, the same happened last cruise in the Caribbean because of hurricane Erma. These are our views and many other Irish people on board. PS I would like to point out that i have played music for years and my observations would be fair if deserved. Read Less

The disappointment started with the embarkation. The process did not go smoothly at all. I have an injured left leg and should not walk for far lengths. The airport provided a wheelchair and the cruiseline said they would provide a wheelchair as well. When I got there, there was not chair for me. The women say my orthotic boot and gave me Priority Boarding. The issue it, there was absolutely no crown control. There was ONE line for priority boarding which included both handicap and VIP guests. All the guests, not jus the VIP guests packed all of the lines, and people were even pushing me to get on the boat. I left and told them that I can not get in line and I was told that cannot control what their guests do!!! Get ready to be RUN OVER by wild Europeans on the Fantasia. Do not purchase their excursions. They say that people speak English but in reality, the accents are so thick that you will no understand them anyways. Deborah in Rome spoke very poor English and during the whole tour in Rome the microphones did not work at all. We could never hear her. We took 3 excursions- Rome, Pisa, and Monaco. In all 3, you have very limited time to actually STOP and enjoy a site, or take a picture, or enter a small shoppe. They are so concerned with you being back by 3pm, even if the boat doesnt leave until 5:30pm!!! Its better to take a taxi or do a local tour. MSC excursions are not worth it. Also, only ONE local destination offered free shuttle buses into the city center, I think it was La Spezia, but should be all cities. With dinning, they are far too strict. You have to be seated by 7pm and if you are not you can loose your place in dinning and have to eat at the buffet. The buffet is NOT wheelchair friendly. I was only using a wheelchair temporarily, not permanently, but still, no staff offered to help me. The cruise itself is not very wheelchair friendly, which made me feel very bad for people who are actually permanently disabled. For example, there is no wheelchair only elevators. There were actually not enough elevators. There are also no automatic doors throughout the entire ship so you have to rely on other people to help you through the doors. Also, the counters in the dinning room are far too high for anyone in a wheelchair to take a plate, see the food, and serve themselves. My husband had to help me every day, because the staff never assisted. Once, a kind waitor assisted me when he saw me limping with coffee. Definitely the worst part of our trip and what ruined our whole trip was when our cabin was flooded with water when a pipe burst at 2am. I woke up to water in our room in the middle of the night and had a panic attack. They later told us that we were LUCKY they had an extra room available for us to sleep in that night. They even wanted us to go back to the soiled room the next day. Our items were soiled with dirty pipe water and many of our items were not cleaned for when we were scheduled to disembark 2 days later. They refused to return our money for the price of our cabin for those 2 nights and refused to provide any compensation for our shoes or even let me fill our a complaint form. We have been trying to contact customer service for the pipe even specifcially but no one has returned our contacts. All in all, this cruise line is NOT wheelchair friendly, has no automatic doors or dinning assitance, and did not own up to their responsiblity for our cabin and items. Read Less

The cruise schedule only mention one day at sea, instead they are two. The schedule mentions 2 days at Mykonos and that a great lie. The Santorini visit is just 4 hours in the morning and then the ship moves to Mykonos from 8:00pm to 3:00am, then spend a second day at sea in a ship that the only entertainment is a verity small casino, a antique small pool. Just 4 bartenders for Deck 11 ( pool and sun deck) for all the passengers, spect 20 minutes for a beer or drink. The Buffet food quality is the same as Golden Corral but cold. The restaurant serves the same as the buffet but in small quantity. Food quality is the worst compare to: Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival... The food and beverage personal doesn’t care about the customers that’s do the minimum required. Expect all excursion to start 1 hour late, so you will get less for your money. Final recommendation spend your money on any othe cruise line. This was a 12 member family vacation, as a gift From the Grandfather and was extremely disappointed. Read Less

This was only the second cruise my husband and I have been on and were so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse including our dealings with the provider TUI. We had booked a balcony cabin as we have in the past but although the room was pleasant, it certainly wasn't the standard we expected. There was a dummy dial (did not work) on the wall for the air-conditioning but it did not control anything so all day and all night we had cold air blowing directly on to our bed for the whole week. We went on the second sailing for this cruise ship and it was quite obvious, that things were not what they should be. Many of the staff, although always polite and helpful, ran around like headless chickens and it was obvious that management had not completed training of the staff. The food was OK but not as good as we had had on a previous cruise ship with a different company. I think that probably the worse problem was with the toilets. The public toilets were constantly having to be closed as the sewerage was overflowing and floating which smelt dreadful at times. Staff tried their best to keep on top of the problem but it is obvious that this old refurbished ship was not fit for purpose and was not able to take the volume of passengers. I can understand why things such as norovirus can spread quickly on a ship. There were many other issues which are too many to mention but I think what I am most annoyed about is that on the day after our return to the UK, I emailed TUI to outline all my concerns and problems. They did not respond so after 28 days I had no option but to contact ABTA who are no handling the complaint. A simple apology from TUI with acknowledgment of the problems the ship was having would have been sufficient but it has now angered me that they didn't even have the common courtesy to contact me following my email. I now have to wait a further 28 days for ABTA to try and resolve the matter but if nothing is forthcoming, I shall pursue the matter further TUI ..... (from a very annoyed TUI customer) Read Less

The Carnival organization should be recognized for its ability to take a brand new ship and reduce it to a floating tribute to poor food, bad service and mediocre entertainment. The food was cheap, overcooked and boring. The only possible exception was breakfast where Carnival staff had nothing to do with boxed cereal, yogurt and some fruits. Toast was dry and cold. Eggs were immersed in oil. Lunch and dinner offerings were either overcooked or smothering in sauces to deguise the lack of taste. The Main Dining Room wasn't much better. Some items such as the Maine lobster tails were inedible. Other offering were old and tired and have been around for years. A new ship should have a new menu. I am left with impression that the Carnival strategy was to make the Lido and Main Dining Room food so bad that it would force guests to eat at the Speciality Restaurants to get a decent meal I would lke somebody to explain to me: to whom Carnival pay VAT in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea? It appears to be another grab on their part. Never before on a cruise ship have I ever experienced such a high degree of rude and indifferent staff. There was very little willingness to offer assistance or answer the simplest of questions. Carnival needs to reimagine loyalty. There was a time when Carnival hosted a reception for past guests with the Captain and officers present. Now it is a bottle of water and drink voucher with conditions; the last of the cruise, after 5pm and not to exceed $9.00. Loyalty shouldn't come with strings attached. Carnival expects my loyalty unconditionally, it should work both ways. Bon voyage Carnival. Never again. Read Less

Having previously enjoyed 3 cruises with NCL (Star, Epic,Spirit) we decided to take a 2nd cruise on NCL Spirit. From start to finish we found it to be an absolute nightmare, and couldn't wait to get home. The cruise did not get off to a good start, when passengers were told on embarkation in Barcelona, that the itinerary had been changed, and 3 major ports were substituted for far less attractive ones. We were told that this was because of the weather, but this sort of thing seems to be going on a lot with cruise ships lately. We were not too bothered, because we had been to the missed ports on several occasions, however, we would certainly not have booked this cruise if the itinerary was the one we ended up with. Having been on many cruises as a passenger on both large and small ships, and having been a ships officer for 15 years, I can count on one hand how many ports have been cancelled at the last minute. Once on board, it was time for a drink. Next shock coming up. We discovered that even though we had an Ultimate Beverage Package, we would still be charged 10% Spanish VAT. This is something that has never happened before, even on the same ship, in similar waters this time last year. That evening, we went to one of the lounges for a drink before dinner, only to be told that the same drink that we had last year, was not on the package as it was now over $15. There were many other things that were different, but for us, the major gripe was the fact that we had hammering and drilling noise in our stateroom EVERY DAY OF THE CRUISE, when we wanted to have a rest either after breakfast or lunch. It appeared that there was nothing that could be done, because the work being carried out on the open deck above was urgent. We were finally offered another stateroom 2 days before the end of the cruise, but by this time we could not be bothered. We feel that this is not the way to treat repeat guests, and we are now wondering if we should give NCL another chance or think again. Read Less

We booked principaly to see the Cirque du soleil performance and have been on many MSC cruises before. This ship is ghastly in side and out. The décor in the balcony cabin was dark and depressing the view being partially obscured by a life boat which they failed to mention when booking. I think they got TK Max or the Range to do the furnishings. The ship was full of all nationalitys the result of which was over crowding at every event and facility. The buffet was akin to being in a lunatic asylum- pushing ,shouting, no manners , people making pigs of themselves etc. Security on and off the ship was shambolic ,queing not enough staff, rude and ill mannered. We had a meal in the Cirque du soleil - the chaos had to be seen to be believed in the dinner serving. All with rip off prices and lack lustre service. We have been cruising for over 35 years, and never have we had a bad cruise, till now. We have cruised with Costa before on many of their ships, so we were under no illusion it would be noisy, particularly as it was a large ship, however, it was only a 7 nighter and it was going were we wanted it to, so we thought we'd make the most of it. Our first impression of the ship was very favourable, it was a beautiful high tech ship. The cabins were very comfortable and the staff were very good and tried to please where they could. The shows too were a very good standard, and that was were the pluses ended. I'll list the negatives which sadly far outweighed the pluses: 1. There was very little seating around public areas for such a large number of people. 2. No cultural activities, not even on sea days. 3. The food in the restaurants was mediocre with very little choice in the buffet and the quality was not brilliant. 4. The wine packages were very restrictive and the selection of wines on offer on these packages were not of good quality. 5. Worst of all was the hygiene, or lack of. This was evident at the entrance to restaurants as the sanitising gel was hardly used. Even if you did use it as we did, it was rendered null and void by the waiters who handed you a tablet to sign for the drinks. After a few days, my wife and I ended up in the hospital with food poisoning, and by the looks of it, many people were affected too as the hospital was very busy. Some passengers on our table were also sick. We have a policy of never eating or drinking outside the ships precisely to avoid getting sick and spoiling our holiday, but this time, after 35 years of cruising, we got sick with food on board. Never, never again will we go on one of these cruises again, even if they were to be given to us free. Read Less

This was cruise number 13 for me and number 4 for my partner all with MSC. We thought because it was a new ship it would be great, no such luck. There were not enough crew for the ratio of passengers hence things were not done as they should have been. for example, long waits for drinks, cold meals, queues to get off and on the ship The staff managed as best they could and were very good but all could see it was tough going for them. There are signs at the casino entrances under 18years not allowed but the parents don't give a toss, there were kids in there every night, not good. This ship is lovely but it is too big, too many kids and not enough staff, it would be nice to have a few areas ADULTS only, every 2nd person we spoke to were very unhappy and said the same as us ", we will not be doing any more cruises with MSC." you really don't care about your loyal passengers. Was so hoping that things were going to be different on this cruise and the Meraviglia since MSC is now making a huge play for the AMERICAN MARKET....but it was really an unfortunate circumstance for a wonderful itinerary....too bad for my group...both ships were lovely but the service and food were impossibly horrible!! Ruined our vacation....Worst vacation in many many years! Production shows were wonderful but that was all there was on Musica and on Meraviglia the ship is fabulous but you get a taste of Cirque (which you pay for) and more production shows...no enrichment activities whatsoever....We were all Black Level Members and were invited to party for Black Members and there was no staff to meet and greet at all....done in very poor taste....Bars were lacking. No hot drinks with dinner...Nickle and dime to death....no water unless you purchase, no juice after breakfast...what a horror...I do not recommend and will not travel with MSC again unless they change for the American market. We have travelled on m.s.c. Now for the 4th time, and 2 on the sinfonia. In 2013 from c.town to genoa hit was a great trip and we were so happy with everything on the ship excepting the air conditioning which went from freezing in the dining rooms and some lounges and didn't have a constant comforftable temperature throughout. This trip i had to go to the hospital owing to this air con situation as i am asthmatic and had to have treatment to the cost of $383.00!!!! everywhere we went the passengers were coughing and sneezing. We refuse to pay the extra daily on-board cost as we will not subsidise the paying of the crew, that is for the shipping line to ensure that they are paid enough for their duties. As for the food!!!! It was dreadful and we ended up by eating salads at the buffet but we had to ask for sliced tomatoes and the cucumber was sciled too thickly. The cheeses were tasteless and the meats were tough. The pizzas were tasteless and of no variety, same old choice all the time, the coffee was the worst that we have ever tasted so we had nescafe sachets and all of the other passengers that we spoke to were of the same opinion of the food. All in all, it was a waste of money and we were so looking forward to this cruise for such a long time and being retired pensioners we could have done so very much more with our money. Never again. We have cruised with celebrity and norwegian and m.s.c. Must take a few tips from these other cruise lines to come up to scratch. Read Less

Sailed aboard the Lyrical The ship epitomizes its French origins - go for show, worry about substance another time. The boat is modern, sleek, and almost well designed. The cabins are nice. The food itself is mediocre. I have had better on other cruise lines. They make a great show of presentation, when serving the food but calling a hot dog a tube steak does not change the fact that it is still a hot dog. The first meal after embarkation was 35 - 45 minutes late. No explanation. A few things which would have improved my experience on board. When they say it is a small ship, they are telling the truth. You get one washroom. That is it. There may be other washroom facilities on board the ship but the only other one I saw, besides the one in my cabin, was kept locked. If you are at one end of the ship and need the washroom, you have to move quickly, and hope your roommate is not using it. The bulk of the serving staff were French, and they let you know it. If you were not French, well they condescended to serve you. You were expected to be impressed, and pay for some of their fantastic wines. Internet charges are reasonable, I think. They started at 30 Euros, and went up from there. I don't know how good the wifi service was on board because I never used it.. Of course when I got off the boat there are lots of places which provided wifi for free. The staff claims to understand English, but only to their advantage. When I put the gratuity for the staff on my credit card at the end of the trip, I expressed the amount in dollars. When I asked for a receipt, the staff member would not give me one, but assured me it was correct. Except it was not. They got the amount right. But they put it through in Euros, not in dollars. Sailing on Le Lyrial was an interesting learning experience for me. I don't think I will sail with them again. Read Less

I wanted to experience the new ocean going vessels; my friend had traveled on the brand new ocean vessel last year and raved about it. I was extremely impressed with the emphasis on cultures and learning. I enjoyed the classical music. The nightly entertainment was very enjoyable; the actors/singers/dancers were highly talented. The food was well prepared and presented. The made to order fettuccini was soooo delicious! The excursions were informative and the local guides were professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. Interacting with the local residents was fun and a great learning experience. I am always impressed at the well managed exit and re-entry procedures that Viking employs to insure the safety of the passengers and staff. I was actually wishing for more sea days to enjoy the beautiful Viking Sea. My sincerest thanks to the Captain and his entire staff for an unforgettable journey. Viking did it again! Congratulations on your new ships. Read Less

We chose Regents because I wanted to see Egypt and we felt it may be dangerous to fly in. The ship was newly refurbished and so was the staff. They never let on in booking. I guess cause most cruise sites warn against a newly refurbished ship and they are right. Staff had no clue and we were the training program and a costly one at that. Food and service in Compass Rose poor. Tour guides poor to awful. Fumes from the rugs and refurbishment left me woyh a 21 day sinus problem for the entire cruise. I know cause off the ship it was fine back on it was back and others seemed to be experiencing the same. Shows, not great. Same guy with his puppets most of the time. Pre cruise hotel pretty bad. DisEmbarkation a disaster--- Told to take a taxi if I did not like the transfer offered and I could bring my luggage to the elevator myself. This could have been an amazing cruise given the ports but, it fell very short of basic expectations. Read Less

Been on Azura 3 Times decided to try Ventura Food was Terrible in Buffet Indian and Asian food for 12 days, Food was always barely warm if not cold, if you wanted a salad, forget Ham or Prawns were only out twice complained to Management only to be told it was exactly the same on all their ships!! What a load of rubbish could not fault anything on Azura, entertainment everything was brilliant . Unlike Ventura entertainment was poor, 1 band was on every night for 12 days ! We had a luxury executive room with balcony, sofa looked like it needed a good clean stained and faded as we're the curtains,. Will never go on his ship ever again, They say you pay for what you get well that's not true cost nearly £5000 for 3 of us for 12 days, don't feel I want to use P O ever again Read Less
