We choose this itinerary because of all the different ports it hit and we weren't disappointed. We got up close and personal with a couple glaciers and that was exciting. The captain always pointed out if there were whales nearby too which was really nice. The stops were interesting places and the crew on board was, as always, fantastic!! The food was good, not fantastic, but good. Their ice ...
2018 Alaska Cruise Log
May 19 Saturday- We flew out of Green Bay to Seattle, with a layover in Minneapolis. No delays. We arrived in Seattle on schedule and so did our luggage. A quick call on the courtesy phone and the shuttle was here to take us to La Quinta, our preferred motel. Nice room with a view of pine trees.
May 21 Monday- To the ship! Starting our 14 day cruise on HAL Zaandam, ...
I cruise withy my elderly father. We originally wanted to do the May 21 - Jun 4 14 day cruise on the Zaandam but I have two nephews graduating from High School on May 31st, so we opted for the May 7 -21.
We took super shuttle to SFO. We were really sweating it and worried we were going to miss our flight to SEATAC. Supper Shuttle usually gives you a three hour time frame for pick-up prior to ...
This was our third Alaskan cruise, and definitely the most uneven experience.
Pros:
Smaller ship
Great itinerary
Excellent service in the Lido and from housekeeping staff
Naturalist onboard
Alaskan scenery
Cons:
Horrible cabin
Extremely poor service from front desk
Problem with Shore Excursion
Very expensive internet plans
Let's start with the good: The ...
I was determined to try a Holland America ship after our cruise to Alaska last year on Princess. Princess has always treated us very well, but when we docked in Victoria next to HAL's Amsterdam, the ship just looked so elegant. Reviews of the fleet, the service, and the food confirmed my impressions, so we booked a test run on a 1 day sail from Seattle to Vancouver.
Pre-board: Documents and ...
We decided to take a quick 1 night cruise to Vancouver BC as part of an anniversary celebration. After checking with the HAL office in Seattle, we found we could board early, eat lunch and then relax on board before we set sail. Alas, it was not to be.
After scrambling to catch an early morning flight as planned, we were met by security officials at the terminal who said that boarding the ship ...
First, I am not a Holland America "homer". I've now sailed with them 3 times but my allegience is with Princess thanks to the great amenities we've earned over 22 sailings. I wish CCL would allow Captain's Circle members the same amenities on Holland as the Mariner Society members receive and vice versa. It would be really good for CCL business if they allowed that type of arrangement among all of ...
First, about us. South Alabama residents, D and I are 35 and 26. He is a contractor and I am a newspaper reporter. We don't have children -- yet -- and this cruise was one of the things to do on our "bucket list" before we have children. Because we're young and on a budget, we always look for a good deal when planning a cruise (this was our third). We also look for great ports, where we can have ...
Our cabin was at the back of the ship directly below the Rotterdam dining room. While the first 2 nights were relatively quiet, the 3rd and 4th nights it sounded like they were bowling. Lots of banging, and dropping stuff that sounded like bowling balls. When I inquired by phone at the front desk I was offered ear plugs. The trip to Juneau was a bit rough but I did not get sea sick. Hardly any ...
I've been on four cruises (1 other to Alaska in the early 90's) and have never experienced a cruiseship move as much as the Zaandam. I actually got seasick for the first time in my life (and I've been on much smaller boats in rough seas) on the Seattle to Juneau leg. I understand about 1/3 of the ship's passengers did too. Not only did the ship move from front to back and up and down, it also ...
