The ship is great, balcony cabin was excellent and had lot of fun time. For majority scenario where a person who doesn't have dietary restrictions and didn't have to go to medical center, I would have given 4.5 stars. My only gripe is related to uncleanliness in Medical center and inconsistent responses from the staff in Garden cafe' that affected our dietery needs (making us feeling guilty and not enjoying it to the fullest). 1. Medical Center: I had to take my 9 year old son to the medical center as he threw up few times and was complaining about heartburn. The staff wasn't friendly and she started with money talk - "you need to pay $200 for the doctor just to see the patient and that needs to be charged to your stateroom (i.e. no insurance would be accepted). In addition, any other procedures after the consultations will be charged separately". Although I think this is required to set the right expectations - I would have loved to see empathy towards the patient who was in pain (totally opposite considering the service we were getting anywhere else on the ship). The biggest letdown for me was the operating room she took us to wait for the doctor to come. When I looked at that room, I was terrified. The room was unkempt and there were blood stains on the floor. We didn't feel good overall - and decided to skip the visit. Made sure we control the food intake that day and with that our son came back to normal (light meal, lemon water and some OTC medicines we had with us). 2. Dietary needs: We had dietary needs (no eggs, no meat, no fish, no alcohol). We let the cruise know in advance, and also met the associate maître d' on first day of the cruise to let them know. In Garden cafe' there was "Taste of India" station that met most of our needs (which was good). But at other stations, it was very difficult to figure out especially regarding eggs. For the exact same food item, I received 3 different answers from the people serving at that station on different days - 1. It's vegetarian (no eggs), 2. It has eggs, 3. It is made with fish sauce. For the first two days we ate it considering that addresses our dietary needs only to realize it wasn't correct the other day (this might have been the reason for us to visit Medical center). I have suggestion to the NCL staff to just put 5 checkboxes (or icons) for every food item: Meat/Fish, Eggs, Nuts, Gluten, Dairy. The chef who prepares the item already knows the contents (and SHOULD know), so making it visible addresses most of dietary needs making it very clear to everyone, and we don't end up getting confusing answers and also it will help respect guest's dietary restrictions. 3. Inconsistent responses from food staff: In Garden Cafe' (main dining room), there are foods marked with "Green" and "Red" labels. I asked the question on what does that indicate - here again there were multiple responses. My initial gut was 'green' means vegetarian food, and red means non-vegetarian food (i.e. containing meat/fish). The biggest letdown was that the Food and Beverage Director didn't have an idea about it. He first agreed with me, and when I showed him that a vegetarian food shows as red, he started giving some random reasons which made no sense. Finally the restaurant manager (who reports to the director) came and told that 'green' means cold food and 'red' means hot food. I would be interested to know why green/red combo was chosen, as usually green in terms of food denotes vegetarian/vegan food, and hot/cold in general is indicated by red/blue color (like hot/cold water in shower or at the sink). After this experience, I asked same question to two other people managing the garden cafe, and again got different answers :). Again, suggestion for NCL staff is to use "BLUE/RED" color combo for denoting "Cold/Hot" which is consistent with expectations. Read Less

We are longtime NCL cruisers. We enjoy the freedom of making choices day to day while relying on the excellent service. For this cruise the destination was definitely the highlight. The scenery and the wildlife were incredible. The NCL Bliss made experiencing this beauty even more special with the introduction of their beautiful Observation Lounge on deck 15. It was such a lovely experience sailing in Glacier Bay. In addition the Captain made the bow available for picture taking. That was a special treat. The inclusion of Park Rangers to provide the history of the area and to assist in pointing out wildlife was fantastic! We were able to see a family of five bears come right down to the water. Once the Park Rangers pointed them out, they were easy to see but would have been missed otherwise. We enjoyed meals in most of the specialty restaurants with LeBistro continuing to be our favorite. We enjoyed Jersey Boys in the theater and would have liked to see more production shows rather than smaller lounge venues. Our cabin was perfect. We were in an aft balcony and enjoyed the extra room and lounge chair. Service was excellent and all crew we interacted with were knowledgeable. Shore excursions were fantastic; we enjoyed the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and a Salmon Bake. In Skagway we rode the White Pass Railroad and experienced the Yukon, a definite highlight. In Ketchikan we took a boat trip to experience the Totems and eagles. We received a BIG bonus because there were many whales in the area and we were able to see them breach, and even sleep. Absolutely fantastic. Loved the cruise! Looking forward to the next one on the new Cape Town South Africa to Singapore sailing in March :) Read Less

Cabin was good. Food as expected. Room was kept clean with freshtowels. Beds were better than some worse than others. Nice closet space. Worst main dining room service in 8 cruises. Service was painfully slow. 30-45 mins to get a drink and starter/salad that was straight off the menu. Go-karts were a ripoff. Stopped my group after 5 laps. Allowed someone to repeatedly block pass attempts - even after telling him to pull to the side. Unfortunately if you bump someone they slow you down and send you to the pits. Go-karts are also not set to run at advertised speeds. Think crappy old amusement park speeds. If you have done the cars at Disney they are faster. Laser tag was good except the only thing you have is the gun - they removed the shoulder harness but at least you get the paid for time. Going back to Royal/Princess/Disney and maybe even Carnival. For the good on the cruise I highly recommend The Local. Food was goid and friendly service. I would suggest requesting a seat at the atrium wall to watch music/shows. We used AlaskaX for an excursion in Skagway to see the his kids/go for a sled ride. Happy with them - everthing went smoothly. The O1 family ocean view worked well for a family of 4. Kids had bunk beds to sleep on. My kids did not like the kids club, but have enjoyed the Disney and RCL kids clubs. They want to switch back to RCL or Disney for our next cruise. We went to several shows. Beatles were entertaining but definitely need some help on harmonization. Read Less

From the time we stepped foot on the Bliss to the the time we left. The service was over the top. We boarded at 12:30 out of Seattle and where in an mid ship balcony suite on the 12th floor. The first couple of nights the ship moved alot due to open waters Im guessing. Being mid ship in our room was okay but at the back of the boat didn't find it so great. Alaska was where we were headed. Was disappointed in the amount of wildlife that we didn't see. Either time of year or just not looking closely. We did see pods of whales. Glacier Bay is beautiful and so quite, the water is so calm. Weather was sunny but had a nip in the air. Entertainment was good. I would have liked to have more bands playing music outside as it was warm most of the days and could be out in the sun. Food was over the top. I gained 4 pounds and I worked out every day in the weight room. My husband has a gluten allergy and the servers took great pride and instrist in making sure he was taken care of. We will forsure go on Neirwegian again. Read Less

My wife and I just returned from this Alaskan Cruise in late August. We both have mixed reviews. There is a lot to like about this ship - it's new, it's clean, it's got a wonderful spa and thermal area! We also paid the premium rate to stay in the VIP section called the Haven. Definitely worth the extra $$. The Haven has it's own dining room with excellent dinner and breakfast and ok lunch. You also have your own indoor pool area and outdoor sun deck with hot tub, which we used a lot. The Haven guests have their own separate observation room, consierge desk and bar area. You also get special access when getting on and off the ship using the crew elevators so you can really avoid the big crowds that are in the general population onboard. So, if you're going to do this boat, I highly recommend the Haven experience...otherwise this is a very very crowded ship. In terms of excursions, we did the Mendenhall Glacier and whale watch which I rate a 7 of 10, we also did the helicopter, hike and train glacier experience in Skagway which i rate a 8/10, if you are in shape for the hike of 6 miles. We saw the Jersey Boys show and it was excellent but it only played for two nights and the rest of the trip was void of any really good entertainment. We both had massages at the spa and were very pleased, but the best part of the spa is the (extra charge $) Thermal suite which was never too crowded and had a wonderful sauna, steam room, salt room, and pretty cool massaging pool area. Besides the Haven restaurant, we ate a several specialty dining places including the seafood restaurant (excellent), the steak house (very good) and the french restaurant (excellent dover sole). But there arent many restaurants that are always open on this ship, so we had to do the garden buffet once or twice just to get some late lunch and it is a massive food trough. As far as the schedule, there is a whole lot of onboard ship time on this cruise. And with a lack of activities and entertainment, you can get bored. One stop in Victoria was at 8pm at night, for only 2.5 hours! Ketchikan was only half day and it took 48 hours from getting on the ship to getting off at the first port in Juneau. So the negatives are the crowd size, elevator wait times, the lack of activities and entertainment and limited port times. The positives mostly are due to the Haven experience we had. Alaska is wonderful and so beautiful! Read Less

Went with a group of friends. My wife and I had done the same cruise on NCL 8 years ago on a smaller ship. Totally different experience. The staff at a lot of the food and bar venues were rude. A lot of the people on this ship were rude and disrespectful. How about getting on an elevator with food piled high on numerous plates, dropping it, and covering it with napkins. The elevator wait time was 10 minutes or more. Elevators were hot and packed to the gills with loud obnoxious people. Like a cattle call getting on an elevator. Too many people not enough facilities. For the money NCL should provide free internet. There was only expensive wi fi and if you didn’t turn off your phone it would disappear. No way to stay in contact with your group on ship. The Garden Cafe looked like a chaotic cattle call. Too many onboard services involved extra charges. Never again!!! Read Less

I listen to z100 and Elvis Duran being that he’s The Godfather I got really excited about the new ship. I love the ship. It has beautiful bars, restaurants and lounges. I would suggest having a few bars open later than midnight and more late night food options other than only the local pub. After 12, we sometimes felt that we didn’t have any where to have drinks and talk. There was the social club but some nights we weren’t interested in being in that kind of environment. Otherwise the experience was marvelous. I would highly recommend this cruise and Alaska was breathtaking. Problably need more time in Ketchikan and British Columbia Canada. The Canada stop was at night. There was not much to do and an hour after being there all the shops closed. The tours are all very expensive. They should be a little more reasonable for families to afford. You already pay a lot for cruise shouldn’t have to worry about having so much to pay for excursions Read Less

We took our entire family on a cruise to Alaska to celebrate my husbands retirement. We chose the Bliss as we have 8 Grandchildren ranging in age from 6-13. This was my husbands and my 4th Norwegian cruise, so imagine our surprise and disappointment at all the problems we had. We found the website a mess. If you schedule dinner and then an excursion, and there is a conflict, you are in trouble. You have to cancel the dinner, and in order to do that you must call on the phone. when you call the average wait time is 30-45 minutes. Then you get sent to another number where you wait another 30-45 minutes. Worse of all when you get to the ship, the prepaid items are a mess. We had to fight to get thins straight at Teppanyaki. Then we had to fight to get our prepaid photo package. We were charged for the game room after we prepaid for the kids, and we were using the green swipes. I actually got a call saying my charge was almost $600.00 and I had to fight with guest services to get it removed . We all got the $10.00 ability to text and call on the ship and it hardly ever worked. The staff in the dining rooms were a mess. I think they all must have just come onboard. On night we got desert before our meal. The most horrible thing was Splash Academy were they terrorized our 4 6 years olds. They threaten to put a diaper on my grandson because he cried, and belittled him. They threatened to tape my other grandsons mouth shut. When asked who they have caring for our children, there was no answer. I could go on and on. Alaska and the actual ship were great, staff poor Read Less

My girl friend and I went on the Bliss for a cruise to Alaska. The ship is beautiful the service was superb the crew couldn’t do enough for you. My complaint is the tea really Lipton tea on an upscale ship. I’m a very big tea connoisseur & I was expecting something better than Lipton teas. Or steep the tea in the pot & bring it out that way.. Also wish we had more time in Ketchikan & Victoria. Too much ship time and not enough port time. Other then my two complaints I had a wonderful time on the cruise. We met lovely people on the cruise and we had breakfast together every morning & some dinners also. I also liked how you had people spraying hand sanitizer and dispensers throughout the ship. Enjoyed the Casino & enjoyed the Beatles they looked like the real group and sounded like them also. It was a very relaxing cruise Read Less

Always wanted to do an Alaskan cruise. The experience with Norwegians cruise line was extravagant the were great! Definitely would book again through Norwegian. The help on board were fantastic, anytime we needed something someone was right there to answer our questions and fulfill our needs. Disembarking the ship for excursions was a little hectic with everyone trying to get off the ship, but the help did all they could to ensure it went as quickly as possible. The ship was beautiful, the food was phenomenal, we just loved everything about it. Our favorite lounge was the Observation deck where you could see all angles of the beauty around you, very comfortable and relaxing, had even fallen asleep in there. Loved the bartenders in there as well they were on top of serving everyone at the bar in a timely manner. We would love to do this trip again, and if we choose to it will be with the Norwegian cruise line. Read Less

Spent 20K on a family vacation with our adult children & grandchildren. Once in a lifetime affair, we can't afford again. Has been totally ruined. I will never cruise NCL again and my husband who is a travel agent will be sure to warn many others. 1) Matridi refused to accommodate table for 8 in Garden Cafe. Could clearly put two available tables together. 2) Waited long time in guest services line about CPAP & Dining package. Said would call stateroom about CPAP NEVER called. 3) Dining package was chosen along with beverage package but was not applied to only 1 room of our family party/vacation. Was embarrassing & charged at Cagney's astronomical amount of over $200 which was not reimbursed and only solution to the miscommunication was to purchase an additional dining package for 2. 4) our cards were frozen because apparently had old card on file, had to wait in guest service line again, had to wait in guest service line several times for long periods. It felt like half our cruise was waiting in lines. new card was authorized and signed, when went to use again it was still frozen. Jewelry clerk overheard my frustration & called to correct it without having to wait in long guest service line again. Not good practices to hold card numbers on file. These things change often. 5) Ship was so crowded, could not get elevator for sometimes 10-20 mins. 1st & 2nd day, before & after entertainment events and disembarking at ports. As a person with special needs and a scooter that requires use of non crowded elevator it was very frustrating & impossible to get elevator. Disembarking in Juneau thankfully an attendant saw the impossibility to obtain a elevator & my frustration and guided me to service elevators so I could get off ship to make our excursion on time. Ship was so crowded was hard to enjoy anything and never, not ONE hot tub available. Very young children were allowed to occupy them the entire time around pool even though not medically safe for young children and the hot tubs in H20 were occupied by the same groups of people ALL DAY which I can't tolerate more than 20-30 mins in hot tub idk how these people could tolerate all day. 6) Reservations for specialty restaurants made through the app were screwed up & two scheduled for same day. Was supposed to be Wednesday & Friday, had both booked Friday. Had to then wait in line to correct at dining services. ALOT of time was wasted in lines to discuss or fix problems! 7) Rude waitress in Cagney's steakhouse 8) Waited 15-20 minutes before being offered juice at breakfast by someone other than our waiter, our waiter took 3 of 4 of our orders then walked away not taking husband's order, then waited long time for food. Over an hour for food in both Taste & Savor. Worst service ever! 9) again waited over an hour for our breakfast food at Savor, then food came out missing all the meats and other items ordered. Waited over an hour at dinner also and dining room was practically empty so not sure why the hold up. 10) room service took 15-20 minutes to answer phone for me. Never answered at all for son's room. The local is the only place to get food 24/7 besides room service that doesn't answer and you cannot take food out! Is dine in only which was not an option with sleeping children 2 five yr olds and a 2 yr old. 11) photographer took our family pictures while out to dinner at Cagney's restaurant which is fine but then returned with developed photos, literally hovering over our shoulder while we tried to view them and the charge of $25 each photo is ridiculous. The whole thing was awkward & disruptive of our dinner. Taking the pics was fine after that should have been told they will be available shortly in photo gallery for view & purchase on deck 6. 12) my husband & son were charged $300 on card the day of checkin. Without warning or notification or informed of CASH option so that if don't spend it can have immediately returned. Not released & credited 30-60 days later. 13) informed my adult son & daughter to not bring many cigarettes as can purchase on ship cheaper and you never restocked or got shipment of their POPULAR brands so had to purchase at port in Alaska for DOUBLE the price at home if would have purchased before trip. ALSO: When stayed in Haven last year 8/18. We were disappointed but never complained about them painting on our balcony most the time, being restricted from our balcony due to wet paint, then the ONE morning we decide to eat breakfast out on our balcony, water came splashing down, some of it splashing us as they were apparently washing something above. Spent ALOT of money! Maintenance & repairs should be done when guests are not in room. We didn't complain because we love NCL & enjoyed the privacy and VIP of the Haven but this family vacation has been one disaster after the other. I'm actually embarrassed after I talked NCL up to my children & in laws only for them to come and have an experience such as this. Also realized NCL is not a true all inclusive. When add cruise fare, air fare, hotel stays, transfers, excursions, wifi, paying for almost EVERY on board activity & service ie arcade, cake shop, starbucks, race track it is astronomical! I recent found out Regent is the only TRUE all inclusive vacation cruise but I'm reluctant to use them either because owned by NCL and refuse to spend anymore of our hard earned money on NCL after this ruined, astronomical cost of a disastrous family cruise! Friends recommended NCL cruise to Alaska at the end of August. The weather was perfect. Cruise Director Roberto and the Entertainment and Recreation staff were wonderful. Especially Alex and Una. I participated in several passenger shows which was so much fun. “Dancing with the Stars” was hilarious. The Excursions provided were as advertised. Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan were awesome. Glacier Bay was also awesome. I have food allergies and I was assigned Camilee Marinas Assistant Maitre’d when I contacted the Restaurant Manager my first day onboard the Norwegian Bliss. Camilee Marinas took the time to make sure my dining experience was specified to my dietary needs. My mind was at ease knowing I didn’t have to worry, which made my cruising experience that much better. I would recommend NCL Bliss to my friends and family. My cruise start to finish was the best I ever experienced. I had a blast!!! Thanks to all!!! Read Less

We have sailed with Norwegian 2 prior cruises and love it. So when our friends wanted to go on an Alaska Cruise, I immediatly recommened Norwegian based on past experiences. So not a good time. The overall service/staff were not helpful or plainly speaking rude. The food was sub-par for the most part, food was served cold, order was consistently wrong, and the selections were limited. I not sure if it is because of the Drink Package promotion, but most of the bar tenders were rude and non-socialble. Something from past cruised I was not expecting. The entertainment was great and had a grand time at the shows, bingo, etc. Our room was a good size, however, the staff kept using a stray washer at the front of the ship. Our room was on deck 8 AFT for we could not fully enjoy our balcony because of the constent spray from them cleaning. We were swamped with spray from the washing and runoff. During bad weather and high winds we had major issues with our sliding doors and were not able to get help or a satisfactory answer (after 3 calls to guest service)..The balcony funiture was thrown around during high winds for a couple of hours, slamming into the glass doors. No one would help, my husband had to jeapordize his safety to so outside and try to secure the funiture. We woke up to our balcony having broken funiture, bolts, screws, and similar debris all over. I try to reach out to the cruise line and also tried to fill out their survey. Survey wouldn't work. I have sent 2 e-mails requesting someone contact me, and to no avail. Totaly ignored. Read Less

Cruising is the perfect family vacation as it allows us to have both family time and for our teens to have more “freedom” for activities they enjoy. The Bliss is a large ship, but it is designed to provide more private spaces. Here are some highlights: EMBARKING/DISEMBARKING were very easy. We went to the dock earlier than our assigned time and were allowed to board. We disembark on our own, so were off the ship in a matter of minutes at the end of the cruise. We took the NCL shuttle to the airport (book this in advance). BALCONY CABIN was very spacious for four people, including two teen boys. The space is well designed. We put the coffee service on the top shelf of the closet to give us more countertop space. There is plenty of storage space in the room (even under the coach/convertible bed). I read about bringing heavy-duty magnetic hooks for the walls and am glad I did. Everyone had a hook for their cardkey lanyards and we used them in the bathroom for our toiletry kit and by the balcony door for our binoculars. FOOD We enjoyed the Garden Café (buffet style) for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The variety is astonishing and the quality is excellent. One observation: There are no crab legs offered at any of the buffets (odd for an Alaskan Cruise). Favorites on the buffet: Prime rib, Indian cuisine, Asian Noodle bowls, fresh fruit all the time and the salad bar selections. We went for one dinner at Cagney’s Steak house and the NY Strip Steak and Petit Filet Mignon were outstanding. Friends we were with enjoyed several meals at The Local (no charge, but not a buffet). One of our friends was in a single cabin and she had access to a “Singles Lounge” which was a delightful, quiet space with excellent coffee (expresso, cappuccino, etc.) and snacks. This was a perfect place to get away from the crowds. OBSERVATION LOUGE on deck 15 was my favorite location on the ship. Designed for Alaska, the floor to ceiling windows and comfortable couches and lounge chairs allow you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors no matter the weather/temperature. There are groupings of chairs and sofas that give the space a more intimate (less crowded?) feel. A buffet is set up with a limited, but still excellent, selection for breakfast and lunch. TEENAGERS have access to many activities onboard. Ours enrolled in Entourage (the high school teen club) first thing when we got onboard…and we didn’t see much more of them after that except to sleep and go on excursions. Our boys LOVED Entourage’s activities and met some kids there from around the world they are still in touch with through social media. We had thought the race track and laser tag would be the big draws for them and even considered getting the unlimited race track pass – SO GLAD WE DIDN’T The weather when we were at sea kept both the race track and laser tag facilities closed so our kids didn’t use them at all. Our boys used the arcade and abided by our daily limit with no problem ($10). There is an unlimited pass for the arcade too, but we didn’t get that either. ENTERTAINMENT was great. Jersey Boys is wonderful – book before you get onboard. We didn’t and were lucky they added an extra show! A delightful surprise was the Liverpool Beatles (tribute band) that played at The Cavern Lounge several night – each show was different (they “age” through the years and play the music from each “era”). EXCURSIONS were booked mostly through Viator or directly with the tour operator (not NCL) and we were very happy with our selections. Juneau we did Whale Watch and Mendenhall Glacier Combo with Juneau Tours. First part of our tour was a short hike to see the Mendenhall Glacier and then we boarded a 45-person catamaran for whale watching. We were able to get very close (much closer than on a boat with 250 people) and saw many whales. After our tour we went for crab legs at Tracy’s Crab Shack (delicious) – it is right by the Tram parking lot. Skagway we had planned a helicopter/dogsled tour directly with Temsco (I had done this excursion in July, 2018 and it is AMAZING. It is expensive and TOTALLY WORTH IT!). Unfortunately, our travel in 2019 was in August and the weather had been too warm and the dogsled camp had be shutdown early. We found other excursions: I took our boys on the Chilkoot Trail Hike and Float Tour (arranged through Viator) and everyone had a great time. We spotted close to 30 Bald Eagles. You should be a good walker for the hike (there is some incline, not much, and the path is well worn and narrow at times, but the guide will help those we need it). My husband and our friends booked a 4x4 tour in the Takhanuk Forest and they really enjoyed the experience and the vistas. Another set of friends booked a bus tour to the Yukon and LOVED it. Their photos of the trip are amazing. Finally, we went to Jewell Gardens to do glassblowing (we arranged this directly with them) and it was a wonderful experience. Best of all, they shipped our creations home so we didn’t have to carry them the rest of the way on the cruise! There is really something for everyone out of Skagway. I will be the one person who will tell you that I don’t think the Yukon train trip is worthwhile. It is too long, too repetitive (a lot of trees) and too much sitting. We had a long day in Skagway so some of us went to the Skagway Brewery for lunch and enjoyed more crab legs and a basket of battered halibut and fish. Try the Spruce Tip Beer! Ketchikan we had planned to go to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary (arranged through Viator), but the weather prevented us from docking. Full refund from the tour operator. Having been to Ketchikan before I had hoped to go back to Ketchikan Youth Initiatives (632 Park Avenue) were they sell locally made art - paintings, hangings, birdhouses with Alaska license plate roofs, etc. When you go to Ketchikan, this place is worth a stop for a less touristy gift/memento AND you are supporting the local youth activities. Last time I was in Ketchikan I walked to the Native Culture Museum and the Totem Pole Museum ($6 each or a pass for both for $10). Easy walk, saw bald eagles in the trees, walked by the salmon ladders…this is how I found the Ketchikan Youth Initiative. ALSO, the Ketchikan Fire Department had a vending machine of t-shirts ($25 with a credit card) – BEST souvenir I got my son in 2018 – again, less touristy and it supports the local FD. Unless you have very young children, I would give the Lumberjack Show a pass. Victoria was supposed to be a very late and short time in port (8 p.m. to midnight) and there weren’t shore excursions offered. Once we were onboard we saw NCL had a trip to Butchart Gardens (this is a MUST SEE in Victoria) and quickly booked it even knowing we would only see the gardens illuminated by lights. However, because we missed Ketchikan they arrived early and NCL extended our tour to include highlights of Victoria and we were able to see the garden in daylight (so much better!). If gardens aren’t your thing (though even our boys were impressed), NCL had a “Bites and Sights” excursion that might be of interest. Note the cruise ships are quite far from the things you will want to do in the city and you will need a cab or other form of transportation to get where you want to go in Victoria. Next time I would like the opportunity to explore Chinatown – it looked fascinating as we drove through on our highlights tour. This was an amazing vacation for our entire family and we will definitely cruise with NCL again. The Bliss is our teens' favorite ship. Read Less

First cruise. Enjoyable. Food was good. Would rate Le Bistro as best, Teppanyaki was the most fun. Ocean Blue was good, but Le Bistro and Cagney's were better for us. First night ate at Manhattan room - did not go back. Used Garden Café more than we planned - it was very good. Taste and Savor were also good. All restaurants were good. Vibe club was probably not worth it for an Alaska cruise. The hot tubs were warm and could have been 3-4 degrees hotter. Would have been nice for the cool misty days. Service at the Vibe was outstanding. The thermal spa was wonderful! Probably our favorite place on the ship. Wish it opened earlier. Spin class was disappointing. A lot of potential wasted. Gym was packed most mornings. Jersey Boys was great, Havana was not. Beatles were good, but crowded every night. One had to arrive very early to get a seat. Comedy was very good. Went to two, but fell asleep at the late one - not because of the act, but because we were tired. Alaska was a good choice and Glacier Bay was the highlight. Read Less

Everything was ok until we started using our cabin. First the bedsheets had stains on them!!!! Then the cabin ceiling and walls started cracking at nigh... plus we could hear weird sounds coming from the deck above us very late at night (we were on deck 15 and heaven staterooms were above us). I’m talking about 1 am to 3 am. Who can sleep like that???? Our steward and a carpenter came a couple of times and couldn’t find where the noise was coming from. They gave us a cheap wine bottle and a $200 onboard credit for the “inconvenience” but I feel they were short, in reality I should’ve gotten a refund for the whole onboard expense account and for being so uncomfortable on our cabin, plus if things were not getting fixed, they should’ve moved us or upgraded our stateroom to a better one, as I explained to management we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and it wasn’t a cheap cruise to begin with so to have this kind of situation was very bad for our cruise experience. On the other hand we had booked our excursion with NCL way before our cruise started thinking our experience was going to be the best (even tho we could have gotten it cheaper with independent companies) and the truth is that at the end it was as bad as anywhere online because it just got cancelled just a few days before the cruise; when we called to cancel the cruise at that point they said there wasn’t any refund or exchanges available and they didn’t even give us a credit or anything towards a new excursion; so we had to pay even more money for the new one. Similar issue happened with one of the ports which by the way I must say they do stay very little time at (Ketchikan), you’ll be practically running the whole time when ashore (some even get you there at almost night time) and even when we missed that port (due to bad winds or weather) we didn’t stay longer at the next port. I’m don’t know about the rest of the world but I like things to go according to schedule or to be compensated for it; mind you this is the third “inconvenience” on this cruise so yeah so far not recommended to people like me who actually care about details on a cruise. Other than that food was great, service was ok (they don’t go out of their way to serve your needs), the ship is very stylish and updated for our times, doesn’t feel cramped (except when getting off to explore a new port, people are coming to the hallways from all sides, it’s crazy); they do have good shows (Broadway style I’d say), you can’t miss the Beatles and Jersey Boys, I’m not an art critic but I thought they were all very profesional and talented (didn’t feel cheap). The disembarkation process was very smooth (they use a camera system with face recognition, very sophisticated and fast, I liked that). Read Less

Short vacation, out of Seattle for me and my wife. Impressive big ship comes with a price when you share it with over 4000 passengers. Crowded check in, main areas, theater shows, restaurants and elevators. You need reservation for almost everything if not you'll wait for long time on standby lanes. Lots of amenities and fun options if you don't mind being charged again for them. Surprised by pastry and ice cream charge. Even clean our balcony stateroom was smallest so far and mini suites are not much better, just a 3 feet larger bathroom. Looks like the real staterooms start at Heaven level-high price. Complementary restaurants have pretty much same menu every day, Some of the staff are trying hard to make your experience better while most look tired or bored. Best Spa and treatment if you don't mind the over charge. Our impression was that of a bar/ casino where if you are not ready to spend extra better don't come or be there. Read Less

We were impressed with Norwegian's dedication to the environment. Towels were not washed and replaced unless we requested it. Only cloth napkins and real plates, cups, etc were used for the meals. We were equally impressed with their concern for cleanliness. Hand sanitizer was available as we entered all restaurants and squirted on our hands by lovely, cheerful employees whenever we entered a buffet area. All of the entertainment on board was very enjoyable, but Jersey Boys was a cut above! The acting, singing and dancing were professional and as good or better than other plays we have seen in top venues. Frankie Valli's voice was amazing, as well as all of the other "Jersey Boys". WOW is how we felt when it ended!! The Observation Lounge was also a plus on this ship. There was a light lunch available everyday and we enjoyed being away from the crowds in the Garden Cafe Buffet. We are so glad we chose Norwegian Bliss. Read Less

Flew in early to Seattle and had decided earlier when planning, to get on the ship and get restaurants and shows scheduled and to do our exploring Seattle on the back end. We were happy with decision. Note that there is a 10% tax on alcohol while docked in Seattle, even with the unlimited alcohol plan! This was our first cruise so everything was new to us. Getting on and off the ship in Seattle and at every port was simple and moved quickly. There are kiosks on different walls with touch-screen to make/edit reservations for dining, spa, entertainment, etc.. The ship wi-fi never seemed to work for us. We had 250 minutes to use and ended up wasting them trying to log on and off and trying to access internet. You really have to let the social/internet world go while on the ship. It was actually quite nice once you got used to it. The NCL app on the other hand, we used constantly. You can pay $10/person to have unlimited texting and calling with others on the ship. That was great to be able to meet up. It was only my husband and I on the trip but we used it a lot, surprisingly. The ship is 20 levels and you are not together every minute. He would get up a couple hours before me and go for breakfast. I would turn my app on once I woke up and see where it was to meet up. Or he might be running back to the room for something and I could call and ask him to bring me a jacket or tell him I'm moving to another deck or bar, etc - totally worth the $. Best things about ship to me were the amazing staff and the cleanliness! I can't say enough about the service provided. Everyone was so friendly, happy and helpful. They truly do everything possible to make sure you enjoy your trip up until the very last hour. I loved that there was never trash or empty dishes laying around. The bathrooms were always spotless and well stocked and always had warm water at the faucets! Same with shower - always instant hot water. The bars were all so fun. We spent a lot of time at the bar in the Atrium just because there was always a fun show or activity or music going on in that area. The Local restaurant above was another great hangout because it has a bar top that ran all the way around the opening down to the Atrium stage. So you could eat (food there is included) or have drinks and enjoy the entertainment. Loved going to karaoke in the evenings. Loved the comedy shows, Havana and especially Jersey Boys! Siglo was the main live music we watched. They are amazing! And they play several different types of shows around the boat throughout the whole week. The dinners at Tepanyaki and Ocean Blue were my favorites for all the seafood. My husband's favorite was Cagney's for the steak. Ports - We rented a car in Juneau at Avis, which is on the walk towards town, and drove up to Mendenhall Glacier and then up to the road to the "end of the road". I didn't care for the shopping in town though - too many jewelry guys and cheap souvenirs from China. They do have a Costco and grocery stores if you need to buy other basics you might have forgotten. Must get salmon cakes (and/or salmon burger) at Salmon Spot! Amazing! Be sure and look for bears at Mendenhall. We didn't know to and kept hearing stories and seeing videos from others throughout the week about their bear sightings there. In Skagway, take the bus up (and back) to the north end of town to see Gold Rush cemetery and do short hike behind it up to the beautiful waterfall. It is totally walkable to get there but I felt like we wasted a lot of time walking through a non-exciting neighborhood to get to it. Definitely take the train ride and hang out on the end of the cars as much as possible for great pictures. It takes you across the Canadian border. Skagway Brewery was our choice for fish and chips - delicious. What I loved most though was the biggest crab leg I've ever had in my life! It's about $40 for a 1lb leg but so worth it! Hubby loved the beer. Loved the shops in Skagway as well. Much better for shopping. In Ketchikan, we booked a float plane tour with Seawind Aviation. Awesome pilot and fun way to see the Misty Fjords. Walk to the river and go upstream and you will see 1000's of salmon waiting for their chance to move forward. It's unbelievable. You can see them anywhere along the river. Our lunch here was in tiny building across from the ship called Alava's. Wonderful chowder in a to-go cup that we ate while standing in line to get back on the ship! The last port was Victoria from 8pm-midnight. We only got off here because I had never been to Canada and wanted to check it off my list of places I've been. It was late so we walked quickly over to Fisherman's Wharf to grab fish 'n chips at Barb's. It showed it was closing but they stayed open late to get the late arrivals off the ship. (The Salmon Spot in Juneau did the same thing.) Their cod is what the "famous" one on the menu states. The server told me it had a bit of fishy taste and that he preferred the cod or the salmon. Hubby had cod and it was huge, non-fishy and so flaky! My salmon was my favorite. Never had fried salmon but OMG! Cute area to walk and see the floating houses. It's a like a little neighborhood on water. It was really dark so we decided to just head back to the ship. Glacier Bay - Very Cold! That was the only time I wore my puffy jacket, gloves and beanie. Beautiful pics. We brought food and drinks out on one of the decks outside of bar and hung out for most of the day. We would take turns going in for refills of both. I really expected to see way more ice. The brochure and map they hand out was so helpful in understanding why the ice is receding and what it all looked like before. Definitely glad we included this in our itinerary. I don't have anything negative to say about the trip! There were a couple times I had a food item that I didn't care for but you can go back and eat something different anytime you want so that didn't matter. The cabins were laid out so unbelievably well. There was PLENTY of storage for all of our things. Loved that they provide hair dryer, shampoo, soap, handsoap, bodywash and lotion. I would suggest switching the bodywash with conditioner since you have a bar of soap already and handsoap at the sink. Us girls need conditioner! Announcements are always made over the speaker and on Channel 2 to let you know port info, etc. Channel 2 is nice to have on because it is a view from a camera off the front of the ship. I would recommend this trip to anyone! Read Less

This was my first civilian cruise and it was MAGNIFICENT! My wife and I had not been back to Alaska since the last century! Loads of changes in that time. The weather was perfect, 60 degrees F at night and 70s during the days. Rain at night only! Visibility was great during the daylight hours, except at sea. Glaciers had filled the bay with floating ice and the whales welcomed us to Alaskan waters. I cannot say enough about the crewmembers courtesy, politeness and efforts to make our voyage special. The excursions were outstanding and very much on time. Our schedule was only briefly interrupted once for a medical emergency where passenger safety was paramount. Although this was the busiest week of the season, the ship was not overcrowded and there was no real wait for anything, meals, drinks or boarding. We had an aft-facing balcony for this trip and it was worth every penny with those spectacular Alaskan views! We eagerly look forward to our next NCL voyage. Read Less

We loved the Breakaway last year, discovered Haven and didn’t even look at other cruise lines, booked the Bliss for our Alaska trip which we’ve been planning for a while now. Haven was great for embarking, disembarking and to skip the crowds which can be overwhelming. However, it’s exaggerated to the point of misrepresentation. You do get priority with dining but everything else is just regular. You have a concierge that calls around for you but if something you want is booked, it’s booked. Our trip also started on the wrong foot, a customer representative canceled our whole reservation by mistake 4 days prior to sailing - she was supposed to be canceling the airport transfer- 3 hours on the phone after being interrogated and put on hold to listen to the recordings and I got it back but allen reservations I’ve made were gone. And when I tried to rebook, everything was gone. Another few hours on the phone with no luck, no sympathy from anyone, not even an apology and we hoarded without any reservations. Haven concierge just kept saying everything is booked. Freestyle cruising is a joke, if you don’t plan months ahead, you won’t get to do the things you want. Race car and laser tag we’re both completely booked, we could do race car doubles only and once in the whole week. That was disappointing since we were counting on those two even though they charge extra. Our butler was nice but he didn’t have language or people skills to make anything happen. Luggage - tagged priority- came at 7pm, butler said sorry it will come from downstairs?! Everyday I asked for housekeeping at 9am, we get up early with the kids, no one stopped by before 1pm. I was washing coffee cups in the sink because housekeeping wasn’t responsible for those, it was someone else, butler we found out the last day. Small things but they add up. Jersey Boys was great, Broadway quality. However, there was nothing to do with the kids during the day. The simple silly things were really boring because the staff is not enthusiastic and language is really a problem. How can you entertain people if you’re struggling to speak English the whole time? And 80% of the activities revolve around selling you stuff and promotions. So we actually walked around not being able to find anything to do which was not the case at Breakaway. Haven lounge was a great escape and the observation deck there is outstanding, we spent most of our time there. Also the pool and jacuzzi was nice for the kids since it was indoors. Fitness center is a shame, it was full every single time I went and it’s so small. Just the lounge area of the spa is bigger than the fitness center. The weight equipment is lined up on the side so narrow, looks like an after thought. And no classes other than a 7am stretch class. This is a deal breaker for me. Dining is pretty good at NCL, however Haven restaurant was over staffed with under trained employees that walked around all the time but you still don’t get your coffee and only option is French press. For us, Haven was not worth the money and downstairs was too hectic so we’ve decided to look at smaller cruise lines and it’s ok if they don’t have a race track on top. Read Less

My wife picked this cruise based on reviews from Cruise Critic and the awesome deal being offered by Norwegian at the time. The Bliss is an unbelievable beautiful, clean and well run ship. Don’t cheat yourself out of a great time by going with something smaller or less expensive! We’ve been on several cruises with different cruise lines but this is the first one with Norwegian and the first time we bought the drink & dining packages. All I can say is going forward, it’s the only way to go! If you like entertainment, you’ll be pleased....The Jersey Boys & Liverpool Beatles were two shows you wouldn’t won’t to miss. They had other shows but we didn’t have time to see them. I would recommend booking your cruise early and taking full advantage of the specialty dining packages. The food & service was as good or better than any “land based” restaurants. Read Less

I was invited by family members, and I was interested in seeing Alaka, so I was happy to be included. Alaska was beautiful and the three shore excursions I chose very well done, though a bit expensive. But there were several issues for me. 1.The worst issue was the disembarkation. It was a nightmare. Trying to get 4000+ people off the ship in a period of 3 hours was unrealistic and the process was very long and exhausting. I would suggest having a longer time range to get off and adding more exits. This was terrible. Just getting off and back on the ship after shore excursions was unwieldy and crowded. 2. I am dairy and garlic intolerant and though the cruise attempted to make my dining more selected, the process was not done well. The food at buffet at the Garden Cafe was overwhelmingly cooked with dairy. We had to ask the staff about every item. We had to reserve a dairy free meal the night before for each of the restaurants, and even then, they would just tell us which item we could eat, rather than make adjustments in the meal preparation. Besides Jello, the dairy free dessert was unedible and awful. They told us we would have a "guide" for dairy free meals, but that person never materialized. Besides that, the food at the specialty restaurants was excellent. The main dining rooms, not so much. 3) The line at guest services was always a long wait and the phone to guest services from our cabin NEVER answered the phone. 4) The daily flyers were great but would have been a lot more helpful if they had been given to us in advance rather than the night before. That would have made it more feasible to plan our activities. 5) Elevators were too slow and too crowded. 6) When I went to see Jersey Boys, entrance to the theater were closed, and two people I was with were not allowed to enter after me because of space... BUT there were empty seats all over the theater, including two next to me!!!! There was no reason to close admission. 7) Arriving in Victoria at night and having only 4 hours there was unrealistic. I dont know if the itinerary can be adjusted but I wound up not being able to see Victoria... so a wasted time. Read Less
