The cruise itself was great. The rooms are large and well appointed, and the food is overall pretty excellent. It's amazing that we were at sea for more than a week, and yet they were still able to provide outstanding fruits and salads. The Thomas Keller restaurant is intimate and outstanding and worth doing at least once during the cruise, and there's no extra charge. The service was very good. It's not the same standard I've experienced on past Seabourn trips. I remember staff throughout the ship would greet me by name, even on a first encounter. That made a huge impression and spoke to a level of excellence. After all, if the staff knows your name, they will remember other things about you too, like what you tend to drink or eat. That leads to anticipatory service - you are offered what you want, before you even ask for it. That level of service seems to be gone on Seabourn. Still, it's outstanding by most measures. The passengers on a long crossing tend to be a different crowd than you'll find on shorter cruises. Frankly, they're friendlier. There's so much time to get to know people, and we really enjoyed the passengers we met. But ultimately our trip was spoiled when my belongings vanished when transferred from the ship to shore in Lisbon. I would find out much later that my luggage ended up being mixed in with other passengers' valuables and put in a taxi. The response to my missing belongings was troubling. At the pier I was placated with false promises of an immediate response. Then in an effort to get me to move along, Seabourn gave me a number to call for help and an email address. No one answered the phone and the automated response from the email told me I'd get a reply within two weeks. No one responded to my requests for information until after I posted publicly on social media after an entire day of silence. Then there was a bunch of blaming of local pier workers, who Seabourn had hired, but then acted like those workers were an entity out of their control or responsibility. In the end, fellow passengers and their travel agent solved the problem of my missing belongings. I spent two days of my three-day visit to Lisbon dealing with the problem, which included meeting with the Portuguese police. Other passengers I met on the Odyssey told me later that they also had problems with wayward belongings. When I heard that I was not alone, I followed up with Seabourn's corporate office, and wrote a personal letter to the company president. I received a we're-sorry-you-feel-that-way response. That's pathetic, and a sign that upper management has no intention of dealing with a very serious security gap. My advice: enjoy the ship, but don't trust Seabourn with your valuables. Carry on and off the ship all of your belongings. Read Less

Very happy .They couldn't do enough for us .Came up with an extension cord for the C Pap machine . Stocked fridge and bar had a full liter of good vodka .Svedka , I think . Mixers, beer , champagne . Room stewardess was always ready to go . Dinning room had some slow arrivals of food at times . But all the food was excellent .They could cook , fish , steaks , pasta . The Colonnade buffet on the back deck was always good .Pool bars and dining line was a great choice in the afternoon for a late lunch .Open to 3:30 . Used room service for breakfast 4 different mornings . Arrived in 20 to 25 minutes and hot .Transfers booked through Seabourn worked fine , even with a flight delay .They were there to meet us . We got our luggage frisked in Lisbon on disembarkation .The Seabourn Rep was on the spot to assure us we would get a cab to the airport when we missed the main bus with everybody else . Even sent a very sweet Portuguese woman ( cute as a button ) with us to make sure we knew where we were going inside the airport . Actually went in with us . Bar people , deck crew , waiters were all on top of it at all times .Entertainment was very good of what we saw . Did a special afternoon opera segment on the deck with the main show vocalists one afternoon . Pouring Patron Margaritas at the pool .l .All you can eat , drink and no tipping or bar bill at the end . But I did leave a small thank you for the housekeeping girl and a bartender .Not expected though .A great time . The best weather the crew had ever seen on this crossing . Just lucky . Read Less

Service is exceptionally excellent by all staff allways. Food is not up to expectations: very refined on the printed menus but too many different ingredients result sometimes in lack of genuine taste. Thomas Keller Grill is just o.k., nothing exceptionnal. For lunch at the Collonade, there is not much variety for the cold dishes and salads: allways the shame shrimps and salmon and salads. The breakfast on the terrace outside the Collonade is a magic moment and very well served. The tea time at the Observaton Bar is also a delicious experience. And after dinner, the same observation bar is a cozy place to enjoy a night cap with Jacqui's singing at the piano. We did not like the noisy entertainment games at the pool deck (Costa style), but they took place just 2 or 3 times. Entertainment and activities were not very interesting, we expected more lectures and classical music performances (piano 1 time, violin 1 time). But all by all, it was a marvelous experience, the weather in november on the south atlantic was sunny and warm, but above all, the way the staff makes you feel as a king all the time is the best reason to come back! We wanted to try a trans-Atlantic cruise just because.... It was wonderful. We took a southerly route and in spite of the season (December!) we spent each day at the pool or walking about the ship, or just sitting out on our balcony reading. It took a little time to realize we could have what ever we wanted, when ever we wanted it! This kind of pampering is not normal. And it was all done with a smile. The staff are incredible. It very soon feels like everyone knows your name, your drink preferences, how you like your coffee. And they are unfailingly cheerful while maintaining a very professional demeanor. Also, our stateroom was spacious and very comfortable. The best it the industry, in my opinion. Finally, we were first attracted to a trans-Atlantic cruise because of the price. I believe we got what we paid for and more. We had a wonderful, very relaxing time, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Read Less

My wife and i cannot express our true pleasure sailing with seabourn again. in fact we sailed 5 previous weeks on the seabourn sun. now the princendam a member of holland america. Also on the spirit. we have one thing to say about the odyssey-perfect. the highlight of our trip was shopping with the chef. Thomas was his name and seabourn needs to keep him forever. he has a outgoing personality and is truly a delight to be around. Food, what can i say terrific. service could have not been better. 6 stars+ in every aspect. Our cruise director david was a delight and we even had his assistant ross who was marvelous, funny and extremely talented. the trivia game at 12 noon everyday was a hoot. not serious which makes it fun. we met a lot of cruisers who will probably remain friends for a long time. seabourn again, yes sir without a doubt. I have often repositioned from Europe where I live, to the United States to visit my family...I must say that the Seabourn Odyssey ranked tops in almost every category. I have only paid to cruise a few times as I normally am at work bringing guests onto the ships, and cruising as the Tour Manager, not as the Cruise Director.... I have heard reviews about 45 minute long deliveries of Coke Light, on every night of their cruise, and the entire dining room up in arms about slow, poor service....I am a Tour Manager, and have been one for the last 30 years...I know excellent service as I dine in restaurants breakfast, lunch, and dinner...every day, about 250 days a year, so figure I have eaten over 21,000 restaurant meals, free, for work...further, I eat out on my own 5 meals a week, in some of the very best restaurants in the world, JOEL ROBUCHON, GUY SAVOY, ENRICO DERFLINGHER, MICHAEL MINA, THOMAS KELLER, BRADLEY OGDEN, CRISTINA BOWERMAN, etc. , etc. So what restaurants were these people describing on the Odyssey???…no way, no how, can the service be described as anything less than excellent...yes, I had a forgotten ice tea, and a main course took a little time once or twice, BWTF are we in such a hurry for to begin with...for those that wrote such false things about the outstanding staff in the restaurants front and back of the house, please check out a movement called #SLOW-FOOD in Italy...the difference between eating and dining is about 1 1/2 hours...The buffet at the Colonnade was always an option! THE GOOD: AMAZING SHIP, awesome embarcation, debarcation, due mainly to having only 450 guests on board, amazing food, AWESOME FRENCH FRIES, and I loved the breadsticks, but the fries are world class, Thomas Keller every other night!, coffee and cakes at the Seabourn Square, amazing books in the library, the plethora of chaise lounges all over the ship, The SERVICE by all of the staff, the included quality of the wines, and included drinks, Hendricks anyone?… the lectures, the amazing television channels, the wifi when it worked, the FREE LAUNDRY ROOMS, with irons...the free and included, constantly revstocked mini bars in the cabins. Superb knowledge of wine by everyone in the dining rooms, and especially bynthe actual Sommeliers... Awesome bathrooms with full deep baths and seperate showers. THE BAD: calling the ship and experience 6 star( certainly the following should not have happened or been possible on a 6 star ship) as it is too subjective and builds expectations too high, the poor GYM, what one would find in a 3 star hotel, terrible not having the missing 10 machines, and thinking the Technogym Wall would suffice( hard to use if a stretching or Yoga Class is in that area, The poor areas for streching classes, a true let down in a large spa area, mens and womens change rooms had tiny saunas, for two or three people max, NOT SIX STARS! The damaged and stained windows in the gym area...The pay for extra quiet area in the spa, the infrared saunas would burn your butt big time, and the whole area should have been the gym to begin with...Not giving out a list of ALL THE WINES AVAILABLE by the glass, why should I have to ask for that list? Why was it delivered 2 days later? Terribly small T.V.'S mounted in a stupid way, so not fully viewable from the bed…really not 6 star....we should have 50" tvs, with sound bars....The mini golf was a joke, 6 star is on the Celebrity Equinox, on real grass, or any Royal Carribean ship, epically not 6 star, nor were the 60% selection of left handed putters and woods and irons...why was there not a golf simulator on board? The Ping Pong table was in a far too windy area...for such ultra limited recreation choices, this ship ranked a 1 star rating, beyond poor...SUITES? A suite must have a seperate bedroom, otherwise it is a Jr Suite...these CABINS were generous in size, but the Cruise Ship Industry deserves to get sued by every single passenger, when their cabins turn out to be just that, when they a buy SUITES.... THE UGLY: no wine lectures or iPad classes, or photo work shops...the one wine tasting offered was to drink 40 dollar glasses of wine....why so expensive? Why not use the wines included for free and discuss them? CONCLUSION: I loved this cruise ship, and Seabourn in general, however not 6 star, as that infers beyond perfect...I loved the inclusive nature of everything on board, and the CAN DO attitude of everyone on board...I thought the food was great, better than all my cruises so far, with strong competition from the French Chefs on Le Ponant, and the amazing chefs on the Mississippi Queen....EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE SHIP SEEMED TO BE A REPEAT GUEST… incredible loyal following, and I can see why....Seabourn is a class act in every way....I cannot wait to book again!!!! We usually do Transatlantic cruises for the long uninterrupted days. Seabourn on past cruises shines above the others for making the crossing fun and exceptional. This cruise did not start that way but midway morphed into a different ship. I believe the reason was many of the guests had done this before and found that the service and attention at the beginning of the cruise did not meet their expectations and made sure the ship's senior officers were aware of this. I have never been on a Seabourn Cruise that started with so many disappointed cruisers. However, I believe that by the end, most, if not all were happy with the cruise. The dining has always been the best on Seabourn. Other cruise lines are beginning to rival it but it consistently performs. The entertainment through the years has weakened. You can also get a sense that although the crew are working very hard, the for profit, Carnival administration has found ways to cut costs at the expense of the once impeccable Seabourn experience. I truly find the staff exceptional but they were clearly in short supply. The ship was in excellent shape. The captain and senior officers receptive and courteous. Carnival's senior officer's may be forced to cut to the point of Seabourn's diminished status. I have signed up for another cruise in December 2016. I hope that there are no further changes "to improve the bottom line". I would rather pay more. Read Less

We are repeat Seabourn clients. This was our first (and only) try aboard Seabourn's larger vessel. Virtually none of the small-ship experience Seabourn is famous seems to have transferred to the much larger Odyssey class ship. Visually the ship is beautiful. Food was excellent with the notable exception of the morning galley chefs' treatment of eggs. Day after day the scrambled eggs in the chaffing dish was like a soupy swampy mess. It is unbelievable that any chef worth his salt could send this out for consumption. The scrambled eggs were so watery they should have been served with a ladle. I've seen egg drop soups that were more cohesive than the Seabourn scrambled eggs. Made-to-order eggs were no better. The key seems to have been to order eggs well done in order to receive an edible plate. Even then they had to be sent back half the time. The coffee on Odessey was terrible. The coffee bar at Seabourn Square was better, but still nothing to write home about. Beyond the coffee and egg issues, food over all was excellent. The restaurant 2 menu we had seemed a bit over the top in terms of making very unusual pairings for the sake of being unusual. One course was a corn meal, chorizo sausage, and lobster fritter. The inherent greasiness of chorizo combined with the corn meal to create a fritter of such heaviness with flavors that completely overpowered whatever lobster was in there. We commented on this and the server said even the chef wasn't pleased with this course. So why did he send it out then? Come on chef, don't insult your diners' pallets by sending out dishes you yourself agree are terrible. Odyssey vibrates and rattles like no other ship I have ever been on. Fortunately the ship was not full and they were able to move us to another PH suite on another deck. The specific pipe rattle behind the wall in our first room was replaced by the clanking elevator shafts next door to the new room. It was however, much much better. Other guests we met said their rooms have wooden shims throughout the ceiling to quell vibration in their suites. The staff... The Seabourn Stewardesses are amongst the most friendly and hardest working people on the high seas and it shows. While the complaints on this voyage were numerous, most seemed to be associated with the apparent drop in what I will call the 'true Seabourn' experience. Aside from our stewardess, the only Seabourn staffer who used my name was a barista at the coffee bar, and that was on day 10. Most of the staffers were friendly, but there were a couple whom you wonder how they made it past Seabourn charm school. The dining staff in the restaurant ran either full hot or full cold with descent service followed by nights of long painful service. A table for two next to us was so frustrated one night they left midway through their entrees. Food was a 10. Service was a 5 at best on good nights, and a 2 on bad nights. One day I arranged to have the pastry chef prepare a special dessert that was supposed to be sent up to our suite the following evening. It never arrived. The staff was very apologetic and they did deliver the next evening, but again, it is so uncharacteristic for these types of errors to occur on Seabourn. A very telling indicator of the degree of dissatisfaction is how many of us did not put down the $1000 deposit for the next Seabourn cruise. We had forged friendships with about 40 people on this crossing with whom we would like to see again. Additionally we also knew several people who were sailing on this trip. To my knowledge none of them put down a deposit either. Right then and there that is at least $20,000 of revenue lost, to say nothing of the cost of the itineraries that will end up being booked on Silversea or one of the other luxury lines. Speaking personally, we love cruising; we don't love having so many little negative details adding up over the course of 12 days. It becomes annoying. It diminishes the overall experience to the point of wondering what is Seabourn going to screw up today? Vacations should not be dragged down with detail after detail being overlooked. One comes to Seabourn with certain expectations. Ours were not the only expectations not met on this trip. We will sail with Silversea on our next cruise in early fall. Will we return to Seabourn? Perhaps yes on their smaller ships, but I will be keeping an eye on the reviews and first hand reports from friends. It would be a shame if this is indicative of where Seabourn is heading; however they will have to work harder to retain business. Maybe Silversea will be better, maybe it will be lacking. But one thing is certain, our next itinerary will not be on Seabourn. Read Less

Although we began cruising with Sitmar in 1976, it had been 15 years since our last cruise in French Polynesia. I had always wanted to do a transatlantic crossing and my wife has tried for years to get me to spend sometime in europe. Seabourn provided the opportunity to do both on a six * ship, the ODYSSEY. We flew into Rome and spent 3 nights at The St. Regis, touring the sights, prior to boarding our home for the next 3 weeks. The boarding process was painless and our luggage was waiting at our suite when we arrived. Our room stewardess introduced herself and we discussed our service requirements, which she duly noted and then performed flawlessly for the entirety of our cruise. We soon learned to anticipate a personal message or artistic preparation from her when returning to our suite at night. She was great! We purchased on board tours in 4 ports and utilized the Seabourn "on & off" complimentary transport into town at the other ports of call. This is a wonderful service provided by Seabourn as an included item which saves the taxi expense from ship to town and return. The purchased tours were as described and well guided. Life on board ODYSSEY was as I anticipated, without children and consisting of a mature and experienced group of world travelers who were, for the most part, congenial while respecting ones privacy. We have made friends on previous cruises with whom we have remained in touch over the years and this cruise also produced some who will be friends for life. We were blessed with incredible weather in the western Med - mostly sunny days and calm seas - and the crossing had the only 2 days of rock n' roll weather during the cruise. We ate in all the venues and found the food to be exceptional in both quality and presentation. Wine was complimentary and choices other than the nightly selection were available. A wine list of "premium" wines was available for purchase but I never found the necessity, as the selection of provided wines was quite in line with my tastes. The selection of liquor was substantial and met our desires for quality Scotch, Tequila and after dinner drinks. There was no additional charges for these items and bottles of our preferred liquor was also placed in our suite, where our stewardess re-filled the ice bucket three times daily. For our last dinner aboard with invited friends, I requested in advance three special order items, all of which were delivered graciously to our table. Service was always friendly and professional in all the restaurants and poolside. Staff was helpful and always concerned that we have an enjoyable experience. Read Less

After 10 years of travelling on 4 star cruise ships and last year on Silversea, we decided to splurge and try the "yet to be built Seabourn Odessey". Travelling from Australia to start your cruise from an overseas port can be a very expensive exercise, but almost 2 years before the Odessey was built we booked our cruise on the inaugural Transatlantic crossing as we thought it would be a special 6 star experience with some added highlights as it was the first time it crossed the Atlantic. To say the cruise was a disappointment is an understatement. Whilst the staterooms were spacious and comfortable and offered decent facilities, the rest of the ship was a let down. Corridors were often lined with laundry trolleys for most of the day, carpets throughout the corridors and public areas were badly stained (looked like the cleaning product bleached the stains), carpets had been patched in many places (badly and this is in a ship that was barely about 4 months old. How could this happen? We also felt that the ship lacked artwork throughout, furnishings were dull and there was a mish mash of different carpets in areas that didn't blend in well with the colour scheme. It is always nice to see scuptures and paintings around and we missed this. There was also a distinct lack of sofas/chairs scattered around that offered a quiet place to sit or wait for friends. The theatre was badly planned. What could have been prime seating next to the aisle centre to the stage was blocked by large columns, and the timber stage floor was a dark brown flat stain finish that was scuffed and looked grubby. During the second half of the cruise we booked the exclusive and supposedly very upmarket private spa area for a cost of $300. No one informed us that the pool was initially freezing then emptied, the day beds and all outdoor facilities were covered with soot and some facilites were not in operation. We asked for a refund as did 4 others that we knew of. This was a huge disappointment as we had planned to use the spa on the Crossing. The rear of deck 4 had no ambience. Cushions on the outdoor furniture were stained and most days were missing altogether. Much more could have been done to brighten it up. A photo shoot was being conducted on board for the first 10 days of the cruise and paying guests of Seabourn had to watch from the sidelines whist the main pool and whirlpool was taken over by photographers/models etc. Various other locations around the ship were also out of bounds on various days. This was not acceptable and we should have told this was going on as the shoots went on and on for hours and hours each day. Hello -----we were paying guests who couldn't use the facilities. We also found out that the photo crew/models/hangers-on had been allocated much better staterooms than we had and we felt that in the interests of good customer service, this shouldn't be so. Our stateroom was located next to a service area and after the first couple of days of not being able to rest due to metal grinding through to 7 pm we asked to be moved to a quieter cabin. To cut a long protracted story short, our request was denied. Apparently there was no spare rooms. 4 days later and by this time the noise was driving us crazy and we continued to request a quieter room. Then whilst we were at breakfast on the 5th day, our belongings were moved to a disabled room without our knowledge. The disabled room was awful. Our things were moved back to our noisy cabin. Then after we let management know that we were unhappy with the way they were handling things, they "found" an empty cabin. We were shown an identical room on the next floor up, same location, same everything. The cabin was full of the models/photographers baggage and had been empty of guests for the whole 5 days we were requesting a move. NO SPARE ROOMS !!!Meanwhile another couple on deck 4 were upgraded to a quieter room due to similar noise we were experiencing. NO SPARE ROOMS!! The day after we changed cabins, we were preparing to go on tour when a huge noise rumbled through our room and water started pouring into our bathroom and under the door. Outside, the roof had caved in after a water pipe had burst. We missed our tour, we were soaking wet and very unhappy. It was beginning to be a nightmare. Our room had a mouldy smell for the rest of the cruise, carpets were lifted up outside in the corridor, noisy fans were working most of the day to dry out the carpets, the roof was being repaired and pieces of carpet were being cut out and patched with old carpet pieces that didn't match. It was, and looked dreadful. Nice relaxing cruise so far !!!! We felt that senior management treated us poorly and were lacking any compassion. The rest of the cruise was uneventful but the Hotel Manager ignored us for the rest of the cruise and seemed unconcerned about what had happened. Our friends who travelled with us were very unimpressed and will not sail Seabourn again. After returning home we have corresponded to Head Office and we have been given a discount on a next cruise, but to be honest, we would have rather been treated like valued guests on the cruise we were on at the time. Seabourn needs to lift their game. We probably will not be able to use the discount so we have ended up with nothing but a bad experience and a depleted bank account. Shame on you Seabourn. Read Less
