7 Night Greek and Italian Jewels on Seabourn Odyssey Perspective: This was our 30th cruise. We were first time cruisers with Seabourn and received the first time OBC of $400, thanks to the Cruise Critic Seabourn Board. This cruise had a port of call each day so we did not get to enjoy all that Seabourn offers. But they did take very good care of us.  Pre-Cruise: We booked airfare through Seabourn. They are a Carnival Corp line, so there was significant savings doing cruise air. We were booked on Delta with flights operated by Air France and Alitalia. The Air France flight used a Boeing 767, which had the least space of any economy seat we have ever experienced. Later, the Alitalia Boeing 777 economy class was fine, but the Air France 767 was miserably cramped. Will avoid the 767 in the future, just to be sure. On a positive note, there was no air deviation fee to book additional days before or after the cruise. We arrived in Athens 3 days before our cruise. Used a taxi to hotel because of luggage. Enjoyed sightseeing and dining in Athens. Started early and ended at about dusk. Fall is less crowded, so was able to keep a distance for safety. Never felt unsafe, but as in all tourist cities, DH always kept a death grip on his wallet and phone. Purchased the Unified Ticket to visit Acropolis and additional sites. Embarkation; We again used a taxi to the port to help with luggage. Arrived at port around 11:30. Seabourn waiting area was not open to passengers. Waited in the port area. At about 12, we were allowed into the Seabourn area where there was cold water available. Check-in started shortly before 1:00 and went quickly. Went onboard to the back area of the Colonnade for lunch. Rooms available at 2. Cabin: Cabin was an ocean view suite. Was setup with one requested liquor and cold Champagne. Was missing one liquor and sodas requested. Since we never drank any alcohol in cabin, we did not note the problem. We only drank bottled water in cabin. On arrival to cabin, safe was not working and there was leak under one sink in the bathroom. Both fixed by dinner. Cabin service was excellent. Even on short port intensive cruise the extra space in the suite was very nice. Room service breakfast was setup nicely with plenty of room to enjoy. Room to dress for dinner was excellent – makeup area, large closet, and room for two to sit, walk or stand throughout suite. Food: Beverages - We never purchased a beverage because the included options were excellent. We normally carry on wine to insure our favorites. Research on Cruise Critic revealed that the included wines by the glass would meet our needs, which they did. Wine service was prompt and thoughtful including finding our favorites and opening new bottles of the included wines from previous nights. Never had to wait on wine service. Enjoyed the cocktail service in the bars and on deck. Staff made sure to offer Thomas Keller cocktail the night we dined there. Observation Lounge seemed to be place for those who really are into mixed drinks. Bartender even visited tables to get feedback about drinks. Specially prepared cocktails were brought to the Patio and pool area in the afternoon, which were very hard to resist. Even had beverage service at the hot tub on the front of the ship. Coffee was excellent. Enjoyed espressos and cappuccinos in dining areas. The Seabourn Square provided barista prepared specialties as good as any coffee house. Also served light bites. For Breakfast, we used room service most days since we needed to be off the ship around 8. The Restaurant and Colonnade opened at 8am and 7am. Used door hanger to order. All our choices were present. Food delivered on time, warm, and setup nicely. Best room service ever experienced. Did one breakfast in The Restaurant which was perfect. Two breakfasts in the outdoor area of the Colonnade, used a mix of ordering from wait staff and buffet, perfect as well. For lunch, we were never back on ship by 2 so the choice was the Patio or room service. We ate every lunch at The Patio, always freshly grilled fish and comfort treat like slice of pizza or burger. Excellent table service for wine and food ordering. When they were crowded, they setup more tables. Dinners were elegant affairs for us. We dressed elegant to formal each night. We had Thomas Keller reservations the first night as it was the only reservation available ahead of time before 9pm. It was a good choice for the first night. Best meal on the cruise for our tastes. An officer had recommended the lamb and was correct. Lobster as the appetizer followed by lamb was one meal. Salad and New York Strip for the other meal. Cocktail and wine service was thoughtful and encouraged. Food was paced nicely. Waiter recommended the Coconut Cake and the Chocolate Cake, was served half a slice of each presented on two plates. Another night a couple tried to add us to their reservation and were told the restaurant was totally booked; so reservations can be tight. Two dinners at Earth and Ocean. – Quiet and casual. Portions are small and options are creative. Great choice for a lighter meal. Remaining meals at The Restaurant. – Ate 4 meals here. All were excellent. Service was slow one night; staff team seemed a bit new. Went to one hosted dinner which was very enjoyable. The only drawback was that the area in the middle of the dining room made it difficult to hear at this large table of 8. Table was hosted by two of the entertainers who were very social and made the evening special. Regarding the menu in The Restaurant, the descriptions and choices as read on the menu do not do justice to the wonderful food. The actual items served were very well prepared and presented. Entertainment: We did not participate in many activities since we were in port each day. Can not comment on any of the daily items such as lectures and trivia. We did go two shows, one was a fairly typical cruise ship style show and the Tim Rice show was fantastic. The lounges at night had very good music. The deck dance party had to be moved indoors to The Club. We enjoyed the music and dancing with the entertainment staff. Volume of the music was at a nice level for dancing and yet one could get farther away and converse over the music. Staff and officers were very friendly and mingled. The gym is nice. Good variety of equipment. On the Odyssey there is no charge for the locker/changing room, showers, steam room and sauna. They were very nice and clean. My one visit, I was the only one in the area. The hot tubs and pool usually only had a few users. Did not use the internet or casino. The one blackjack table was 6/5 BJ, even though multi-deck. Seabourn Square is very nice with the library and sitting areas. Middle area for excursion staff offices. Disembarkation; Prepaid for a shared shuttle to hotel in Rome, approx. 38 euros each. Left ship at 8:45, shuttle arrived at the exact time agreed 9am. Arrived at hotel at 10:45am. Lunch then Vatican Museum tour at 1pm. Stayed an extra day for the Borghese Gallery. Heavy rain in the AM kept us from touring the Borghese gardens. In the evening, we used the Rome metro to tour sites at night. Very nice to see the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Navona fountains at night. Summary: Seabourn is all that the marketing claims. We enjoyed their cruise experience so much that it now changes what we look for in a cruise. Having never to think about costs onboard was much more enjoyable than imagined. Small ship with great space ratio was a big plus. The Seabourn Service is incredible; the staff is professional and caring. Their service is based on training and pride; they have no expectation of compensation from passengers because the gratuity is truly included. In the future we will evaluate what cruise we book to get close to our Seabourn experience if the itinerary and value are there; otherwise we will book Seabourn. Can’t give a higher rating than that! Chose this cruise because of the varied small port itinerary. Was not disappointed,all of the ports were good and some such as Kotor and Nafplion were brilliant, The only exception was Venice which with six ships in was a zoo. We have cruised with Seabourn twice before and they were better this time than on the previous two trips.(I also think that they have become a little better than Regent and Silverseas with whom I have also cruised in the last year.) The food was excellant and very varied and the matching wines well chosen. The nightclub on board is good and is something Seabourn do very well. All the staff on board were happy and the service very good all round. I can also recommend cruising out/in from Athens as it’s a lot less manic than Rome Or Barcelona. The clientele on board were generally very pleasant in a fairly low key way. About half were American with then the Brits and Aussies making up a reasonableContingent. Read Less

My husband and I (mid-fifties) had wanted to visit Venice for many years and thought a cruise that started in Venice would be the perfect way to see it as well as some other interesting places. We did two nights in Vencie pre-cruise in a great hotel, the Palazzo del Giglio, easy to access from the Alilaguna water bus stop and near San Marco square. On our full day in Venice, we did a tour with the Roman Guy of San Marco, Rialto Bridge area and Doge's Palace, which I highly recommend. We splurged for a private taxi boat to the pier on embarkation day. Embarkation in Venice was long - not due to check in which was very quick, but due to where we were docked - it took getting on and off two shuttle buses. There were 7 ships in port that day so I am sure that was the main issue. We had booked a V1 guarantee and found out the week before we boarded that we had been assigned a handicap room on deck 8. The cabin was the biggest we have ever had on a cruise and was very nice, if quirky. The ship was beautiful, spacious and very well maintained. Dining was good - some restaurants had better service than others, but the quality of the food was always great. Best meal on the boat was in The Grill - excellent wine, steak, dessert and the service was exemplary! The entertainment that we experienced was always good, but we did not make every event. One of the fun things we experienced on board was watching two World Cup games with our fellow shipmates. That was a great opportunity to bond with fellow passengers and people watch! We ordered breakfast to our room twice - one was perfect, the other not so much. It was late and not complete. Four visits from the wait staff before we had it correct. Service overall was hit and miss - there were times finding a steward or waiter was more work than it should have been. There is a fine line between too pushy a bartender on ships where gratuities are added and having to go flag one down on a ship like Seabourn where gratuities are included in the fare. We had a massage in the beautiful spa which was very nice. We also worked out in the fitness center which was the nicest one I have seen on a ship. The ports were great and very different. We did one excursion through Seabourn that was absolutely first rate, the hydrofoil to Albania from Corfu to visit the Butrint ruins. We wanted to book a second one but waited too late and there were no spots available. In that port, Vodice, there was VERY little to do on your own so that was really the only disappointing port. A recommendation to Seabourn would be to anchor in Sibenik, as there seemed to be more to do there, or provide more spaces on the ship sponsored excursions. Another highlight port was Nydri, where we rented bikes and rode, then hiked, to the Nydri Waterfalls. A really fun on-your-own excursion - we felt like locals!! One tip for the port of Gythion – there is a lovely beach that the local advisor on board will suggest for a relaxing beach day but take a cab – she told us it was a safe 2 mile walk but it was anything but!! We survived to tell the tale but it was harrowing, and once out of the port area there was no flagging down a taxi. Disembarkation was very quick and smooth. We easily got a cab to our hotel in the Plaka, the Palladian House, a lovely old home on a beautiful square, and spent a lovely day and evening walking around Athens and drinking in the ambiance. Overall, it was a great vacation to a beautiful part of the world on a lovely ship. I give it 4 stars overall, my husband says 3.5 stars. His expectation was so high for the Seabourn brand, so while the trip was great, it fell short of his expectation. Read Less

After cruising with other lines we learned what we didn't like and what to look for in our next cruise. And trust me it was hard to convince my husband to take another cruise after our last disaster on another cruise line..Royal ###, I did my research and we settled on Seabourn. It was the perfect time of the year and where we and our friends wanted to travel. Upon checking in we were greeted with champagne, walked right up to the service desk, everyone was so helpful and friendly. There were 2 gentlemen checking in the same time we were, and they shared "how much they look forward to the this cruise every year". Upon entering the ship, our room was not ready we had the Spa Penthhouse Suite 1093, so we decided to have some lunch and drinks. During this time we got to the know staff and they us, the food at lunch was excellent. By the time we were able to check in to our room my husband Mike and Big Mike knew every staff member working the poolside...whIch I'm grateful because my husband had the darnest time finding our room and luckily 2 staff members knew where to take him. But that is another hilarious story. Our room was right on the back of the ship, the best view of all! It was spacious and contemporary design. The bathroom was enormous..and a walk in closet! Hello my friend! We did have small issue, one of our suitcases was damaged during the transfer, we shared this with our steward and right away Zonett took care of the issue and we were issued an onboard credit that afternoon. Our trip was amazing, personalized and the staff was amazing! The food was excellent, onboard live entertainment was marginal but I would rather be sitting on my back patio with my husband and friends having a very nice glass of wine discussing the day we had or what tomorrow will bring. We also met so many new friends, whom we still in contact with even today. Due to the excursions and activities on the ship you get to know everyone and by the final night we were sitting in the pool area for the open dance party, I think we pushed all the tables together to accommodate 26 people...we had so much fun that night! It was truly memorable. All the men went out dancing ...some sort of man dance like they were driving a car...not sure but it certainly had all the other guests laughing. It was so nice not to have worry about upcharges, or buying beverage packages or paying for specialty restaurants. I want to enjoy my trip not constantly think about pricing. With Seabourn, if you want Steak and Lobster, you get Steak and Lobster no extra charge. If you want 5 scoops of ice you can have 5 scoops of ice cream no question asked and never a bill! Plus the best part is no cheesy formal night photos. Our room steward, Zonett, was amazing, Every day she left little notes for us, and it truly made our trip extra special. By the end of the trip, we knew everyone and they became family. I was so sad to say goodbye to her. We and all of our friends were completely spoiled by Seabourn! And my husband has required we only cruise with Seabourn which I am booking now. If I could give Seabourn10 stars I would. Read Less

21 Day Aegean & Adriatic Odyssey Cruise - fantastic itinerary. There is nothing much to improve on, the options for dining are plentiful, treated like royalty by all levels of Crew -from the Deck Crew to the Captain. I don't know how you can get much better, the training of the Crew by Seabourn is excellent, and they promote well from within. We had the Britain Got talent Winner-, young magician Richard Jones as one of the entertainment and he was excellent. Bar service and restaurant service was top notch..they still call you by name and walk to the table when able, and Francois, the Bar Tender from the Observation Lounge was outstanding. Itinerary allowed for 2 sea days, so kept pretty busy on shore other days which was fantastic. Along with the usual highlights such as Santorini ( although they should spend till 11pm in that Port to allow good time for passengers to tranverse up & down), some real standouts included Monemvasia, Syvota, Zadar in Croatia, Malta & Gozo - these were spectacular and Seabourn was able to get their smaller ship in. Watersports days from the back of the Ship are an added bonus, along with Shopping with the Chef, and open Caviar orderings available! Read Less

We chose this particular cruise line as we have sailed several times before with Seabourn and it has been excellent. We chose this particular cruise because of the time of year, and the ports visited in particular the Greek Islands, Croatia and the Dalmatian coast. Our cruise was made up of three cruises. Boarding was very good as usual and always great to meet the pleasant and welcoming crew. Our cabin was exactly as we expected it to be. We had a forward cabin on the 5th deck ( cabin number 511 ) and this proved to be a bit of a problem when the ship was mooring rather than berthing in an actual port. The noise and vibration of the anchor dropping and /or then raising in the evening was very noisy and intrusive. In previous trips although we were on a forward cabin we did not have this problem.The cabin itself was kept very clean and tidy by our stewardess and the bed as usual was extremely comfortable. Our breakfast every day was in the Collonade Terrace and was made especially enjoyable thanks to our favorite waiter Andre van der Spuy. Andre made a special effort to make us feel happy and could not be more obliging. We dined every evening at The Restaurant in deck 4. Service was impecable. The food was generally very good particularly steaks and fish. Desserts were not up to the same standard. We ate also twice at the Thomas Keller grill on deck 8 and the food was very good as well and service was outstanding. Activities on board were minimal. We really enjoyed the trivia afternoons when they were available. We went to a couple of lectures by Ambassador Karel Kovanda which were excellent. We also were lucky enough to be invited to share a couple of meals with him and his wife Noemi. Evening entertainment we did not attend many as we tended to linger over our evening meals with other guests. Guest services were excellent and would help in every way they could. Disembarkation was very easy and we were allowed to stay longer on board as we were not flying out of Barcelona until the evening. All in all an excellent cruise and recommend it. Read Less

This was our second time with Seabourn...and the second time with Odyssey. Originally this cruise was supposed to go from Athens to Istanbul but it was changed due to troubles in Turkey. Still it was worth it as we went to several Greek Islands including Crete, Rhodes, and Mykonos. Ship: Just the right size with a super friendly staff. Not really any change than the first time we sailed which was during the summer of 2015. Cabin: Very nice and very roomy. Service in the cabin was extraordinary. Dining: Food is always excellent. We ate in Restaurant 1 and Restaurant 2. We also ate on the patio for lunch a number of times and in the buffet. We had room service for breakfast every day. Excellent service. Entertainment was fun and also interesting. They had a speaker who talked about the various islands we explored. As I said, service throughout was excellent. Ports were wonderful and the excursions were quite interesting. We'll be taking the Odyssey again this summer from Rome to Barcelona. Read Less

We booked Seabourn's 7 Day Cruise on board the Odyssey from Venice to Athens and could not be more pleased by the experience. While nothing is perfect, and there were some bumps along the way, this was by far the best cruise experience I had and plan on taking more Seabourn cruises in the future. We arrived in Venice, Italy one night before embarkation. While we did have about a day to explore the city, in hindsight I would had liked one more day. We stayed at the Splendid Hotel in Venice which was a great location to see a lot of attractions in the heart of Venice. The hotel was great and our room was much bigger than expected. If you do stay here I highly recommend taking a water taxi directly to and from the hotel if you have a lot of luggage. We did have trouble with embarkation. It started when we asked the hotel about the best way to get the port. They recommended a private water taxi for $100 Euro. They also told us we could take the water ferry from the Rialto Bridge for $15 euro per person. We cheaped out and that was a mistake. We asked the hotel which stop to get off and they said Tronchetto. We asked the people on the ferry and they said the same, which would have been correct if the ship was at the main terminal. But since the port was so busy that day, the Odessey was at the San Basillio terminal, which is a much different ferry stop. So after a lot of walking, some panic and a $20 euro taxi ride around the port, we got to the right place. Problem was it was late, a little after 4:00pm, and the Italians inside the terminal said the boarding process was now closed. After some more panic, and a lot of back and forth in English and Italian, they reluctantly let us on board where we started the check in process. It was a very tense hour and at one point we felt like we might actually miss the boat. But in the end we got on and the Seabourn staff were very welcoming. Once we were checked in we immediately went to the mandatory safety meeting with the rest of the passengers in the main restaurant. It was there I realized that we were on a much smaller cruise. All 400+ passengers were there for the safety meeting. Once the meeting was over (about 15 minutes) we were allowed to go to our room. Our room was great. Much bigger than some hotels I have stayed in Europe, New York or San Francisco. About five minutes after we got into our room, our stewardess came and greeted us with gifts. It was a really nice touch and made us felt welcomed. About five minutes after that, the ship’s on board guest services called to ask us about the embarkation. We told them what happened and they apologized. That night we sat in the observation bar and watched the ship leave the beautiful city of Venice. Then we went to the main restaurant for dinner and had amazing steaks. I found the food at all of the restaurants on the ship great. We had dinner at all three during the course of the cruise. The main restaurant had a solid menu. The colonnade had different themes every night. And Restaurant 2 is defiantly worth a visit or two. We had lunch many days at the Patio Grill, which was very good. We hit the colonnade only twice for breakfast, but both times were good with a very large selection of breakfast items. I liked that you could hit the buffet or order items like eggs and pancakes to order. It might sound strange but I prefer to order my scrambled eggs fresh versus getting them from the buffet line. On our first full day on board we took a tour of the galley with the head chef. He was great and showed us where most all of the meals were cooked. He talked at length about the process they go through to insure the quality of the food. He even told us they fly all the meat served on board from the US to make sure the quality of the meat is the highest possible. The head chef also told us they do source seafood from local vendors at some of the ports they visit. What was also impressive is that the ship bakes all the bread and pastries daily on board, only bringing in gluten free products from the outside. What we really took advantage of was the room service. We had breakfast in the room five of the days during the cruise. The night before we would fill out a card and leave it on the door before we went to sleep and the next morning the waiters were there with everything we had ordered. We even tried to stump them a few times with special orders, but they handled it flawlessly. I will say they were prompt. While the card gave 15 minute time frames for delivery, they were they a minute after the initial time. For instance the first day I asked for 7:00am to 7:15am. They were there at 7:01am, I had not even gotten out of bed yet. Every time we ordered that was the result. It was great. We also ordered room service after a late night of drinking and dancing. I ordered a cheeseburger at 1:30am. I swear I had just hung up the phone and a waiter was there with a perfectly cooked cheeseburger. It was impressive. As far as the alcohol and wine served on board, it is all top notch. They have a wide selection of beer and hard alcohol. The wine served at dinner was better than most restaurants. There are some premium wines and alcohol you can purchase, but honestly the regular selection is so good you really don’t have to spend extra money. The pool area is not the biggest, but it is nice. So is the spa. I had a wonderful couples massage with a ritual bath after. The bath is outside in a private area that overlooks the sea. The Spa also has nice steam rooms and saunas to use after your treatment. I did not use the gym, but I did stop by. It is not very big, but it had a nice selection of equipment. They also offer different classes like stretching, yoga and palliates (free of charge) in both the morning and in the late afternoon. The entertainment on board was OK. The shows were entertaining, but not spectacular. The best was probably the magician, who performed twice, each show was different. The club was OK, not too wild or crazy. The casino is small with only roulette, black jack, three card poker and some slot machines. One pro tip, You can take your winnings to Seabourn square (the reception area) and put your winnings (if you have any) towards your bill. I did not know that and cashed out at the casino receiving U.S. dollars. We didn’t really participate in any of the other activities so I cannot comment on them. I will say the passengers on board were mostly adults, and most were of the retirement age. That’s not to say it was filled with retirees, but there were not a lot of families with children which was nice. Given the quality of the service and the time of year we traveled it was not a cruise for families. The cruise went from Venice, Italy to Athens, Greece. Our first stop was Primosten, Croatia. We didn’t book an excursion and spent half the day walking around the small island. After a drink we opted to head back to the boat and spend the afternoon at the pool. It was truly relaxing. Day two took us to Dubrovnik, Croatia. We booked our own tour online and took the shuttle bus from the port to the old city. Once there we went on a Game of Thrones tour which was great. If you’re a fan of the show I highly recommend it. Unfortunately it started to rain very hard so after the tour we returned to the ship and did not get to spend a lot of time in the old city. Day three we went to Corfu. Once again we skipped the cruise excursions. We rented a car right at the cruise terminal from Hertz and drove around the island. It was a lot of fun and we got to see a couple of the villages and beaches around the island. We ended the day walking around the Old Town Corfu. Day four was Nydri. We had an excursion booked, but it was canceled due to weather. I will say out of all the ports, Nydri was our least favorite. While we did get off the boat, I would of rather spent the entire day on the ship. Day five was Olympia. That day we took the Seabourn excursion “Best of Olympia” tour. It was really wonderful and our guide was engaging and informative. We went to the birth place of the Olympics and to two museums to see some of the artifacts found at the site. The tour included a delicious traditional Greek lunch at a lovely restaurant just outside of the new city of Olympia. Then we had about a half hour to walk around and see the new city. Day six was probably the biggest surprise, Monemvasia, Greece. Words cannot express how amazing and beautiful this small town really is. We had originally thought we would spend about two hours in the town and head back to the boat. We ended up spending almost the entire day exploring the town including a challenging climb to the top. It was a breath taking view on a sunny day. We had lunch in the old city which was quite good. My only regret about that day was not taking a bathing suit and towel for a swim in the Aegean Sea. Our last stop was Athens. This is where our time on the ship came to an end. Disembarkation was a breeze. We had a transfer to our hotel arraigned by the Seabourn staff. It was simple and fast. It could not be better. Athens is amazing. We only spent a day there, but could have easily spent three. Seabourn is not cheap, but you really get what you pay for. The nice part of the cruise was pretty much everything was included, our bill at the end was minimal. There was no extra charge for all of the alcohol, room service and coffee bar stops. Overall the service of the staff was top notch and I would highly recommend taking a Seabourn cruise. I plan to make my next cruise on Seabourn. Read Less

Our first Seabourn cruise. Istanbul/Venice 4 June 2016 14 days.(Other cruises Matson's Monterey, Avalon, Regent). Short summary - top class, giving us the relaxed and comfortable, quiet holiday we expected. Staff prior to departure in Seabourn's Sydney office pleasant and helpful and, importantly, extremely efficient. Boarding in Istanbul so fast and smooth I can't remember the detail. Out of taxi, handed over luggage, passports, and on board in what seemed like five minutes. Relaxed lunch in Colonnade, moved then to excellent, spotless cabin, welcomed there with champagne and canapés. Bathroom good..shower adequate in size despite what some others have said. Staff throughout always pleasant and helpful. Food always excellent, with good variety at all venues. More than adequate servings. Soufflé ..yes,yes,yes! Wines OK to good. Premium wines were over priced in my opinion. Thomas Keller didn't impress us as much as the excellent MDR. We were very impressed with the Town Square setup and used its comfortable facilities a lot. WiFi arrangements were adequate in speed and pricing for us as we needed only email and a few other resources. Staff quickly and competently fixed a problem one day (and gave credit for the lost period). Two lady expert speakers on the region were excellent each evening. They deserved a larger audience. Very accessible throughout the cruise. Smokers, few, were no problem at all. Why do so many cruisers get their knickers in a knot over this issue? (Neither of us has ever smoked and prefer to avoid them, but, leaving aside the adjacent balcony issues, complaints seem to us to be over done). Tendering was efficient and comfortable. Disembarkation ditto. Two key destinations - Santorini and Dubrovnic - less enjoyable because of the thousands disgorged from multiple cruise ships at the same time. But, what to do...... It's not a perfect world! Shopping with the Chef was a highlight. Overall, hard to find any faults. So much so that we rebooked for Quest ex Barcelona in April 2017. PS. If I had to find a fault, even a minor one. .......In the Sky Bar I was served a Scotch on the Rocks, in a wine glass! Read Less

My husband and I have recently returned from a 7 night cruise on Seabourn Odyssey Athens to Venice. We have cruised several times previously on Celebrity but after a disappointing cruise on the Reflection decided we wanted to try a smaller ship and a more 'luxury' experience. And we certainly got that! From the moment we stepped on board it was another experience entirely. The ship itself is understated elegance - no ostentatious décor or bling anywhere - it created a very relaxing environment everywhere we went and oh how much space there was to relax in! The ship only carries 450 passengers so it is never crowded and there was always somewhere to go to sunbathe in peace or to just have a coffee and read - the exact opposite of the Reflection where the noise and crowds were everywhere. Relaxing on deck 5 was a hidden gem - a small pool, 2 Jacuzzis and shade for my hubby whist I was sunning myself. Also great service from the staff coming round with cold drinks, fruit punches, champagne (always on tap!) and anything else we needed. Our cabin was very spacious and every little detail had been thought of - wine, beer and champagne in the fridge with an ice bucket filled daily. Large bottles of water left in the cabin every day, a walk in closet with plenty of room to store everything, a bathroom with separate shower and bath and double sinks with gorgeous Molten Brown toiletries. Absolutely the best cabin we have stayed in. The food was superb in every venue - we enjoyed the main restaurant but our favourite was The Colonnade in the evenings, where we could sit outside, be served an amazing meal with fabulous wines and just soak up the atmosphere. Above all though the most memorable part of this cruise was the outstanding service we received from everyone - from our cabin stewardess who kept our cabin immaculate, to the waiters and waitresses who looked after us so well, remembering our names and what we liked to eat, drink, where we liked to sit etc and all with a smile on their faces and a genuine desire to please. The entertainment staff were wonderful and our most memorable evening was the on deck 'Rock the Boat' party with a live band and dancers - all the guests joined in and there was a real 'family' atmosphere. Our ports of call were varied - some small and very quiet to the big touristy destinations of Dubrovnik and Venice. We chose to go on the ship's excursions and these were all very well organised and the best part - only small groups so you got a much more personal experience. Prior to this cruise we were a little apprehensive about booking a '6 star cruise' thinking that we may feel a little out of our depth and that we wouldn't fit in but how wrong could we be! We felt so comfortable and welcomed from the minute we boarded to the minute we left and were spoilt rotten the entire cruise! If you are thinking about making that step from mass market to luxury I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you do it. Yes - it is more expensive but worth every penny. Both my husband and I said that overall this was the best value for money cruise we have ever been on - and we are now looking to book our 2016 cruise with Seabourn! Read Less

From Venice to Athens the cruise was heaven. A 'delight' of middle aged folks enjoying themselves. From Athens to Istanbul we were joined by some family groups who changed the atmosphere on the ship totally. They did nothing wrong and were indeed charming but going forward we will avoid school holidays for our cruising. The food was really lovely, the service was A1 and the ship immaculate. The entertainers were top notch but were challenged by rather esoteric (for us!) material and to be honest we didn't really like the shows. This was a shame as when they did the sail away from Venice they were amazing and we had high hopes. They sang like angels but we just didn't know many of the songs. Note the informal dress code (or whatever it used to be called) had disappeared and it was formal for two nights in the 14 and elegant casual the remainder which meant that we carried two jackets unnecessarily. Main complaint. We don't like the Colonnade for breakfast (actually at all - the only place Silversea beats Seabourn for us is La Terrazza) . It is too busy and the seating is odd with very limited places for two and odd stalls where you can sit en masse - not for us. We think the main dining room should be open as it was on previous cruises for a tranquil breakfast and lunch. The much hyped complimentary trip to Ephesus for a classical concert was also disappointing. Firstly the venue requires some mighty music (and indeed would be a great place to use some of the wonderful classical singers on board) but instead we were treated to lovely but delicate chamber music (named for a reason) which felt simply wrong. Then we were bitten alive by horrible mosquitoes (or similar). Seemingly this is a known evil and there was meant to be spray on the table. I didn't see it and nearly a week later my ankles are still a mess. I should say we were at the back and most people we spoke to found this a lovely experience - maybe just us! We were on the 10th floor and for the first time were very conscious of noise from the Observation Bar to the point of just being about to complain when it stopped. Week one no issues but week two the pianist seemed to be louder and one night started a singalong which was totally inappropriate given the proximity of cabins to the venue. I've just read this back and this review sounds negative which is not the intention. We paid our deposit and will be back on Seabourn soon as it is totally our favourite cruise line (as it was with most cruisers on board). The criticisms are intended to be totally constructive. SEABOURN ODYSSEY CRUISE 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2014. This was to be our sixth cruise with Seabourn; we have done two each on all of the three BIG Sisters, Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest. We flew to Venice to join the ship, and stayed overnight in Venice before embarking on our cruise. We arrived at the dock at 1230pm and were soon on board, the check in facility again was very smooth, with no queues. We were then shown up to the Colonnade for lunch. We were told that our suites would be ready for occupation by 2pm. As we approached the Colonnade we saw a familiar face, that of Antonio Carillo, we could not believe that this man remembered us by name, and throughout the cruise he addressed most people by their names. The staff including Antonio were exceptional, nothing seems too much trouble. My only comment would be that at lunch time they serve too much fish and not enough cold cuts, as starters. Overall the food was very good. At 2pm it was announced that our suite were ready, we arrived at our suite and our cases were already on the bed ready for unpacking. We were soon unpacked and ready for the Emergency Drill which takes place in the Restaurant. This done, it was time for Sail a way, which being Venice is very spectacular down the Grand Canal. It was the day before George Clooney’s wedding and the paparazzi were out in full force. Our Itinerary was as follows. Sibenik Croatia Kotor Montenegro Corfu Greece Simi Cephalonia Gythion Greece Rethymnon Crete Piraeus Greece. We have not visited some of the locations we sailed to, and we particularly liked Sibenik, Simi, and Rethymnon. We had fabulous weather from the time we left Venice to arriving in Piraeus. Observations of the Ship and Dining Options. We felt that Seabourn had again come up to the mark, we were on Sojourn in November 2013, and felt that standards were not as good, as this cruise. Staff seemed to gel better, whether they were more experienced in their rolls we do not know. We did not use Restaurant 2 as it is not to our liking, we did use the Colonnade twice for dinner, but again both evenings it was Buffet service, so somewhat of a disappointment. The Main Dining Room we felt was excellent, unlike others who have commented on this cruise, we felt that there were no problems with having a table for 2, or being asked to join a table to make up a 4 or 6. We again were invited to hosted tables on more than one occasion. The main dining room was never open for either breakfast or lunch, so the only choice was the Colonnade for breakfast, or Patio Grill, and the Colonnade, for Lunch. We found that we had no problem getting a table even though the ship was reported to be full. We were also fortunate to have a Marina Day, which was a little disorganised, in that the booking system to participate did not work, but overall we had a great afternoon and were able to use most of the facilities. Our thanks must go out to the staff, from the Maitre’d, Restaurant staff in Colonnade and MDR, also the stewardess, who again did a sterling job. Entertainment. This is where we were a little disappointed, they only had two shows with the singers and dancers, in the second show they did not use the dancers at all. We were told afterwards that the cast had been changed over for our cruise so they were all very busy rehearsing and it felt that they had not the same rapport with the clients on board . The guitarist in the Club though was very good. The Cruise Director, John Howell, was very visible around the ship, and seemed to run a tight operation. Conclusion. The ship is still in excellent condition and overall maintenance was good, Seabourn seems to be keeping their standards up and we did not notice anything amiss. The only small thing they have reduced is the welcome onboard soaps, but this is a small thing, also the fruit in the suite is not a plentiful , but I am sure if one asked for more it would be provided. My other small niggle, is the same as all our other cruises, food is served Warm, instead of HOT, even after making the request for hot plates and food. I do appreciate the fact that they are serving many people, but I heard quite a few comments about the temperature of the food served, something I think Seabourn should be aware of. So after our sixth cruise with Seabourn, we have no hesitation in booking another cruise with them, in fact we have already a Future Cruise Credit in place.   Read Less

Early 50's couple here, booked this cruise about 3 months prior to departure in part due to interesting itineary (Nessebur, Varna, Constanta and Sinup) and positive feedback from friends who had sailed Seabourn in past. We have sailed with SilverSea twice before and found them a bit too overly formal and without many dining options. The Odyssey was the perfect size, a large ship with several options to drink and eat but small enough to avoid the mob scenes of many of the other cruise lines. For the most part our fellow passengers were well traveled, smart and polite - they were not looking to make new best friends and everyone kept to themselves. We liked having a more relaxed envirnment, no tuxedos or suit / tie needed and, for the most part passengers did not need to be reminded not to wear jeans and tee-shirts in public rooms. Service was professional, warm and intuative, the crew were always available to help, but never overbearing or overly familiar. We did not use the casino or take in any of the shows - but all bartenders, spa attendants, servers, and room attendants were 1st rate. Read Less

Seabourn Odyssey is an identical ship to Sojourn and sister ship Quest but it was pleasing to see that the service, food and all other components of the cruise were consistent with our previous Seabourn experiences ... Simply stunning. Our itinerary this time took us down the coast of Turkey (Bodrum being our favourite) across the Aegean Sea to some interesting Greek Islands including Patmos and Parg, and of course the mandatory but very crowded Santorini. Overall, it's hard ( in my opinion) Togo past Seabourn ... 450 passengers is as big a ship as I want to travel on! Read Less

What we had heard from friends was true - Seabourn is the best cruise line short of having your own private yacht. If you just compare a Seabourn fare to anyone elses' you are definitely "missing the boat". We are not experienced cruisers, having only gone on 2, but just the comparison of cabins was worth the price difference. Our cabin was more like a hotel than a "cabin"...A spacious 5-fixture bath done in marble and granite, a walk-in closet, king bed, good-sized seating area and balcony with chairs and table. The food, entertainment, service and all amenities (all drinks are included, all the time) were superb, no need to explain all that. But one special treat is worth mentioning - When we visited Kusadasi, Turkey (Ephesus), after a day touring Ephesus and the house of the Virgin Mary, we came back about 4:00 to clean up and change for the evening. After an early dinner, most of the passengers (it only holds 450) departed on nice motor coaches back to Ephesus, by then closed to all "normal" tourists. We were met by well-dressed, white-gloved waiters serving trays of wine. We picked one of the white-clothed tables and enjoyed the hors d'oeuvres placed there for us. A live chamber music orchestra played about classical selections for close to an hour under the stars, all right adjacent to an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Afterward, when we arrived back at the ship, a number of the chefs, waitstaff, and entertainers were there to greet us with more hors d'oeuvres and drinks while we queued up to check back aboard. The best part? It's included in your cruise fare - no cost, no tipping, nothing but a great evening. Read Less

For our 25th wedding anniversary, we were very lucky to be given the chance to take the trip of a lifetime--a gift from my grandfather. As my wife has always wanted to see Santorini, and Seabourn's Odyssey was going to be there on our anniversary (with a late departure so that we could see the sunset in Oia) it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I would highly recommend working with a travel agent in planning a trip like this, particularly if you don't normally do this kind of travel. We had never cruised before--never wanted to, given the crowds and jostling that come with the mega-ships. We figured Seabourn would be the right kind of cruise for us, and they certainly delivered. In our mid-40s, we were not the youngest people on the cruise, though the majority were older. Embarkation We arrived 45 minutes earlier than our scheduled time of 2pm, but the embarkation process was well underway. We handed off our bags, answered the health questionnaire, registered at the desk, and went through Turkish passport control all within about 20 minutes, and then were on our way to the ship. We were greeted by a line of staff and officers, and were conducted to the elevator by one of the staff who pushed the 8 button and told us someone would meet us to take us to lunch. When the doors opened, we were greeted by another staff member who led us into the Colonnade and welcomed us aboard. It was not just painless, it was graceful. We had lunch, and by 2pm the announcement was made that the suites were ready. We finished our wine and walked down the stairs and out to the front of the ship to find our suite ready and our luggage waiting to be unpacked. Having been touring Istanbul for two days already, we were a bit tired and ordered room service for our first night's dinner. We ordered some things from the room service menu, and some from the Restaurant menu, and all was wonderful. Suite We stayed in Suite 700, the Signature Suite at the front port side of deck 7. The room is vast, with two couches, a dining table for four people, a bar/butler's pantry, a guest washroom, a separate bedroom behind frosted-glass double doors, and a bathroom with a whirlpool tub. There are three closets, including one that extends the entire length of the wall behind the bed--not only is there plenty of room for clothes (the closet offers two sets of drawers as well as a shoe cabinet) but this space provides perfect sound insulation from the adjoining cabin. We didn't hear a sound from neighboring suites the entire time. The Signature Suite verandah is larger than that of any other suite on the ship; it extends from the bedroom (where the verandah is partially covered--a relief in the cloudless Med during August) all the way along the suite to the front of the ship. There were two wicker-style lounges, a dining-sized table, and two chairs. All of these were anchored to the deck with rope, as the wind does get feisty at times. We enjoyed breakfast on the verandah several mornings as the ship came into port. Our stewardess, Anna Paula, was a gem. She was so friendly, and so cheerful, that it was a delight to run into her in the hallway. For our anniversary she decorated the room with rose petals and candles, and left us lovely notes of congratulations. We hugged her goodbye at the end of the voyage--I imagine that happens to her a lot. Given the position of the suite at the bow of the ship, we were concerned about motion. The Aegean in August was relatively calm, though there was a strong wind several evenings. We were awakened once by the ship slapping into a wave, but other than that the motion wasn't a problem. We took Sea-Bands, Bonine, and candied ginger, and didn't need any of them (actually, I ate the ginger during an excursion--yum). Dining We had room-service breakfast every morning, and every morning it was delivered precisely on time, and with exactly what we had ordered. Even when I went off-menu and wrote in a custom omelette, it was brought without question. One morning a gust of wind seized the croissant we had ordered, and it rolled across the verandah. The waiter was mortified, apologized profusely, and brought a replacement basket of croissants within 5 minutes. The service was exemplary. We took lunch in the Colonnade most days, except for one day at Patio Grill and one lunch provided on an excursion. The food was always good, the service attentive. We split our dining between the Restaurant and the Colonnade, depending on the menu (the next day's menu is delivered each night, which is a great service--it allowed us to choose the Indian Market Dinner in the Colonnade one night, for example). Dinner in the Restaurant was well prepared and attentively served, and we found the staff to be both professional and personable. The Colonnade, though primarily a buffet, was always well staffed, and most times my wife was relieved of her plate on the way to the table. The service was attentive without being oppressive. We were invited to tour the galley with the chef on the second day, and I was really glad I went. There were only 5 of us, and we got to see in person how much work goes into food preparation on the ship. I was particularly impressed to see where the chef stands at the end of the preparation line during service in the Restaurant, and that he personally sees and approves every main course plate that leaves the kitchen. That kind of care and attention shows in the dining room. A last note about beverages--though I enjoy a glass of wine with lunch and dinner, my palate is not expert (on coffee, though, I have definite views). I was satisfied with the quality of the wines, and there was a selection available (several reds and several whites) at each meal. The cafe in Seabourn Square was my first stop in the morning after working out, and then throughout the day--got to know the baristas quite well! Itinerary/Excursions This was a heavily port-intensive itinerary--no sea days at all! We arrived in Istanbul two days in advance, and did a private tour with Sea Song both days, arranged by our travel agent. After embarkation at Istanbul we went to Myrina/Lemnos (we took the traditional caique tour, which was amazing--swimming in the Aegean is a treat), then to Izmir (where we skipped Ephesus and toured Pergamum instead), then Cesme (the walking tour of the town was a nice, bus-free way to spend the morning). The rest of the ports were in Greece: Patmos, then Santorini, then Paros, and finally Athens. We took a Seabourn tour in each port, and I'm really glad we did. Almost everyone comments in their cruise reviews that the ship's tours are far too expensive, and you can arrange private tours more economically. But on this itinerary it was really nice to have the details taken care of--plus, someone from the ship always accompanied the tour group to provide assistance if needed. Also, the largest group we were ever a part of was still under 30 people--it wasn't a cattle drive. The guides were all knowledgeable, professional, and willing to engage in conversations ranging from history to current politics--they were all terrific. With a port every day, we were happy to let Seabourn take responsibility for the excursions. We also took advantage of the transfer/tour offered on board for Athens at the end of the voyage--a half-day of touring, including the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, concluding with drop-off at our hotel, the Grande Bretagne. It was a great way to get oriented in the city, which we explored on our own for the next two days. A note for those new to cruising As I mentioned, this was our first cruise. People have told us that we will be spoiled, starting with Seabourn, and I think they're right. It was just so easy and relaxed--never worrying about what anything might cost, or having to sign for drinks. The staff were, to a person, friendly and engaged and professional. Yes, you pay much more up front, but then you never worry about money while you're on the ship--we had to settle up a bill of 1.50 at the end. We got a $400 OBC from the first-time cruiser referral program (check out the Seabourn forum for how to get this) as well as $300 OBC from our travel agent, and spent it on a couple's massage and bathing ritual, a facial, and the transfer/tour in Athens. All of that, plus the world's finest Patron margarita mixed by special order one evening, was covered by OBC and pocket change. A great deal. So when you're considering a luxury cruise, keep in mind the total cost of the trip, and understand as well how much more relaxed you will be on vacation when money isn't an issue on the ship. We had a terrific anniversary celebration, and wouldn't hesitate to book on Seabourn again. Read Less

My wife and I are back from our first Seabourn cruise, boarding the ship in Istanbul on August 31, 2013, and concluding on September 14, 2013 in Athens. First the positives: The ship is beautiful and is cosmetically well maintained. Food, the various restaurants and food services aboard the Odyssey were outstanding. The variety of wines and caviar and champagne were impressive. Entertainment was very good and the itinerary was quite nice. The cruise included several Black Sea ports followed by ports in the Aegean Sea. Now the issues: 1. Our housekeeping stewardess entered our suite on at least two occasions early in the cruise, unannounced. There was no phone call, knock, or doorbell. She came in the door and then apologized when she saw us. 2. Our favorite 'hang-out' was aft on deck five. There is a small pool, two jacuzzis, lounges and shade, for those who wish to be out of the sun. Drink service at this pool was almost non-existent. Soft drink self-service was available in this area, but nothing alcoholic. On many occasions I would go to the main pool (deck 8) to get drinks. Also, the staff closed the pool and jacuzzi at 7:00 pm each day for unknown reasons. When cruising on vacation, we like to watch the sun set. This can be quite nice while enjoying the jacuzzi. Doesn't work well if the jacuzzi closes at 7:00 and sunset is at 7:30. Not a great policy! 3. At several of the small ports we visited we anchored and used tenders to get ashore. One morning we waited well over half an hour for the ten minute ride ashore. The Cruise Director came by just before the tender arrived and said, "I had no idea this was happening." Isn't that her job? Another day we arrived at anchor at about 8:00 am and were cleared by immigration about 8:15. However, we were not allowed to go ashore until 10:30. 4. Smoking. Throughout the world, most hotels, restaurants, and public buildings no longer allow smoking inside. This however does not include Seabourn. This line allows smoking in staterooms (non-smoking staterooms are not available). Smoking is also allowed in the Observation Lounge (deck 10, forward). There was always strong cigarette smoke amid-ships on deck 5. If you are sensitive to smoke, this policy will make the Observation Lounge off limits for you. Yes, we know the smoking policy is going to change in 2014, but we do not know what those changes entail or when they will be enacted on the individual ships. 5. On day three, at about 11:30 pm, our toilet would not flush. A call to 'Guest Services' identified the issue. Technical services had turned off the toilets to remove a clog from the system. I know this sort of thing does happen. I would expect however, some warning from the crew, which never happened. After several (late-night) hours of noise from a sewer 'snake', the problem was resolved. 6. Before the cruise, I requested a bottle of champagne and decorations in our stateroom on September 5th, to celebrate my wife's birthday. A bottle of wine (although nice but not champagne) with decorations were delivered on September 1st. Not the best nor desired time since we had just spent a very long day ashore, and were a bit worn. 7. On September 11th at about 4 in the afternoon, we noticed a strange noise in our closet, which is next to the bed. The noise sounded like air gurgling in a water pipe. Sometimes soft and sometimes louder and even stopping for several seconds from time-to-time. We reported this to 'Guest Services' and were told they would get the issue resolved. One sleepless night followed. We reported the problem again in the afternoon of September 12th, after our trip ashore, and were assured the problem would be resolved. The service people they sent however, were not aware that the issue had been reported the day before, so the troubleshooting started over again. After dinner and the show, we discovered the issues had not changed. When I called 'Guest Services' I was told that the staff was off duty and the issue would be addressed the following morning. The second sleepless night followed. After our shore excursion, on September 13th, in the afternoon, I once again called 'Guest Services'. They sent a housekeeper, who knew nothing of the ongoing problem, to determine the source of the noise. Needless to say, this did not sit well. I found a senior officer in the passageway and explained my displeasure. Within half an hour several people were at our suite, including the Director of Hotel Services, one of the Senior Engineers along with two technicians. They assured us that they would resolve the issue. When we returned from dinner and the show, the Director of Hotel Services came to the suite to explain that the problem was in the primary air conditioning system, so they shut off the primary A/C and turned on the secondary. The noise however was still there! The Director of Hotel Services then brought us ear plugs, explaining that the ship was full and another suite was not available. He also said he would bring us coffee and danish the following morning, and he did, in his dress uniform at 7:00 sharp. Great coffee service. Another sleepless night! They did refund $400 because of the recurring issues; rather weak considering the on-going problem. Seabourn handled this issue very poorly. It seemed that the different departments were not talking to each other. Guest Services, as the point of contact, was terrible in monitoring the problem. No one took responsibility for identifying the problem and fixing it. 8. On our departure day, after a nice shower, the toilet once again stopped working. Bon voyage to us. Summary: Our experiences on other cruise lines have been very good and we looked forward to moving up, expecting this cruise to be even better. It seems that most of our fellow passengers were also first time Seabourn cruisers. Perhaps we now know why. If our experiences aboard this ship are typical, then Seabourn certainly does not deserve its 'six star' rating. Cruise Critic reviewers, our travel agent and Odyssey crew members told us to prepare to be spoiled; that did not happen. We are very disappointed with the Seabourn cruise line.   Read Less

We boarded the ship in Venice. Beautiful ship. Our first Seabourn cruise. We got the 'guaranty' verandah cabin and ended up next to the elevators, stairwell, which turned out to be no big deal. Very quiet! The cabin stewardess introduced herself and then we never saw her again. Evidently she became ill and had to leave the ship. Our only complaint of housekeeping was that we never had our bed linens changed during the entire week. The service was amazing. Caviar and champagne delivered to our suite every afternoon at no charge. This was my 40th cruise and I have to say it was the best in terms of service and culinary. Our ports all started to look the same (Greek isles) however Seabourn made sure that we were safe at all times. Not much in the way of evening entertainment or daytime activities, however we were never bored. Our transfers to Athens airport at the end of the cruise were smooth. We are a well travelled couple (mainly cruises). We love to dance, explore and relax. We have sailed on the Odyssey before and we decided to do 4 back to back segments that included many Greek Islands, Turkey and Croatia. We were in port every day. Embarkation in Venice was easy. We had stayed in Maestre(a suburb so we could avoid the water taxi as we had much luggage) for one night but went into Venice for the day. Once we were on the ship we were greeted and told to have lunch in the Colonnade and then our suite would be ready. Everything went smoothly. When we got to the suite our luggage followed within 1/2 hour. There was champagne and fruit greeting us. Our cabin stewardess, Martine, was exceptional. Ship The Odyssey was filled (450 passengers) each leg of our cruise. The ship accommodated everyones needs. The decor, cuisine and staff were top notch. Always someone was there to say hello and after several days everyone knew our names. Cabin was very large with a huge bathroom (separate tub and shower)with excellent lotions, shampoos,etc. Balcony had a lounge and 2 chairs and nice size round table. We enjoyed sitting out on it every day as the weather was unbelievable. Sunny mild days. There were very few ship's activities except for a port lecturer who was extremely knowledgeable about the history and especially the archeology that was so important in this part of the world. Since we were in port every day activities were not important. One could always get a lounge at the pool and since it was cool the ship's four whirlpool tubs were busy. Service at the pool was excellent. Waiters kept bringing around specialty drinks or anything else one desired. Fridays found sail away at the pool with Maloissa caviar and blinis served by the chef and Food and Beverage manager. Restaurants There are 4 restaurants. The Restaurant (main dining room), Restaurant 2 (reservation only)which offered a seven course tasting menu that changed every week. The chef could win Iron Chef! Also the Colonnade: buffet and table service for 3 meals per day, and the Patio Grill at the pool: also buffet,freshly made pizza and service at the table but steaks and shrimp and lamb chops etc. at night. Home made gelato was available from 12:30 to the end of dinnertime. There were galley tours and shopping with the chef. At many of the ports our chef, Rafael, would take a few people to shop for fresh fish and produce and then create masterpieces with the purchases at meals the next day. Port and Shore Excursions We only took a few as we had pre-booked some private tours. The ship's excursions were fine. Just walking into the small ports and around the seashore was so wonderful. There were always free shuttles. Entertainment Shows were not until 10 PM and this being such a port intensive cruise, we were usually too tired to go. There was an excellent magician and a classical piano player extraordinaire. The dancers and singers were very talented. The cruise director and his assistant were very experienced, entertaining and able. The Captains (they changed after 2 weeks) were funny and personable. All in all Seabourn is our favorite ship and we will be on the Sojourn in 2014! Read Less

We've been cruising since 1989, starting that year on Canberra (great ship). Since then we've moved up the quality scale a bit and over the last 7 or 8 cruises have come to prefer the Grills on Cunard. However, on 6 July 2012 we flew out to Istanbul on BA and joined Seabourn Odyssey the following day for a seven day cruise to Piraeus via some of the Turkish & Greek islands. From the moment we joined the ship, we knew we had made the right choice. We were immediately directed up to The Collonade on deck 8 for lunch & refreshments out on The Terrace, where staff greeted us by name immediately. How they do that is just a mystery....do they have photo's of the passengers and their names pinned up in a cupboard??? After 'Murphy' had taken our carry on items and stored them away for us, we had a really a great lunch with some chilled rose and then made our way along to our cabin towards the opposite end of the ship. Our cabin was 813, grade V6 and absolutely perfect and our waitress Cornelia was a perfect match catering for our every whim. In fact Cordelia seemed to know whatever we needed before we had asked! The standard of decor and fittings on this ship were really good and everywhere absolutely spotless. The contents of our cabin fridge were exactly as requested and the welcome aboard bottle of champagne, chilling in the ice bucket and the canapes alongside were just perfect. Over the next 7 days we experienced pure luxury, delicious food, fantastic service with the most pleasing and attentive staff it has ever been our pleasure to cruise with. We even enjoyed enjoyed the entertainments! All the ports we went to were interesting and where we went ashore by tender that really went smoothly with just a few minutes wait. Leaving this ship and our newly found friends at the end of the cruise was quite sad...another week would have been great. Disembarking was handled with amazing efficiency, we were off, into the terminal where our baggage was on a trolley with our name on it, then into our car for transporting to Athens airport all in less than 10 minutes. Our experience just has to be cruising at it's very best and even though we have two other cruises already booked in The Grills on Cunard, we are planning another Seabourn cruise for early next year. This was our first Seabourn Cruise and it exceeded all our expectations. The food, wherever you eat, is first class. The service is outstanding, all the staff on the ship are friendly and genuinely happy and helpful. The cabins are so well equipped, television with movies and so much music to choose there would be something for everyone. An I Pod docking station, which also charges up the I Pod. The bar, not only with your choice of drink, but ice, mixers, stirrers, everything. Very comfortable beds. Big walk in dressing room with lots of hangars, safe, robes and slippers, even shoe polish and sewing kit. Laundry bags to send out or you can use laundry area. Lovely selection of toiletries, bath and walk in shower. Good air conditioning unit which was quiet. Room service was good, we had breakfast many times on our balcony which was delivered. The table was set up with white tablecloths, weather information was delivered with this. We also had a world news sheet delivered daily. The whole ship is beautifully and very tastefully done. We have cruised on many of the bigger ships before so are used to sailing with crowds. It was lovely to have a smaller quieter ship, I don't think we shared the lift with anyone else all week. There are lots of outside areas to sit which are never crowded. The marina that comes out of the back of the boat is fantastic, a lovely sea water swimming pool, sailing, water skiing, canoes. It is all done very professionally and took lots of staff a long time to set up. The entertainment was first class, we had two excellent guest entertainers. The resident singers and band were good. Staff escorted the ladies into the dining room, there were so many lovely extras on here I wouldn't have room to write them all. They really have thought of everything, sun tan cream, glasses wipes, cool spray or ice cold flannels when you are sitting out on deck. We originally booked a guarantee V4, and were shortly upgraded to V6. Then the week before we were due to sail we had another upgrade to a Penthouse Suite. We had no problem with noise of which I have read on some other reviews in any part of the ship. We ate breakfast and lunch in the Colonnade and of which I have no complaints whatsoever. The staff were very attentive, they would serve whatever was required or you could just help yourself. I tended to eat omelettes for breakfast, which were lovely, my husband had steak and eggs on the last day, which he said were excellent. Our evening meal was taken in the Restaurant in the "Irish Corner" wonderfully run by Nicola and her staff. Nicola with her irish sense of humour made the meal an experience. The food itself was excellent and well presented with complimentary wines served by a knowledgeable somelier. We took two organised tours, one from Argostoli which took in the underground lake, which I have to admit was a little disappointing, and then went in Sime where Captain Correlli's Mandolin was filmed. The tour took in most of the island so gave us a good look round. The second tour took us to Ancient Corinth and the Canal, another enjoyable and interesting tour. We spent some afternoons on one of the sundecks, there is always a quiet one to be found, and enjoyed being served iced water/cocktails/champagne. We also spent a small amount of time in the Square which was a really lovely area where you could read the papers/books/do the jigsaw/have a coffee, cake or ice-cream/book tours or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet which seemed abundant on this ship. Leaving the ship at Athens was well ordered with no queues or the feeling of being abandoned off the ship, even the captain was there to say goodbye. Read Less

We took this cruise principally because of the itinerary,and for the curiosity of trying a line other than Silversea. In my past reviews of Silversea cruises I approached my views as a hotel owner ( Relais& Chateau)which resulted in pointed comments over food and wine, but never of their service and the experience of cruising with them. As for Seabourn, they failed on many fronts,and more importantly, they left no lasting impression. Seabourn believes that it is a very efficiently run operation. They strive to board, communicate and feed people with military precision. The problem is that nothing they do stands out, and as a result they offer a very generic product.Some examples follow: 1) Seabourn is staffed primarily with recent graduates from hospitality schools in South Africa and Eastern Europe. Although these young men and women ( kids) are eager to please, Seabourn is not a career for them.It is a ticket to see the world. Contrast this with a professional service staff whose livelihood depends on renewing contract after contract with the same employer, and the difference in attention to detail becomes palpable. Two days into the cruise while having lunch on the pool deck, a waiter inadvertently spilled a lot of salad dressing ( ie oily and slippery) onto the deck. When alerted to the spill, he dismissively said not to worry because the decks were swabbed at the end of the day. This was code for it's not my problem because I happen to very busy, and some underlings will take care of it. A professional, regardless of "rank", would have cleaned it up immediately. As it turns out Seabourn has a hierarchical service protocol which defies logic. Instead of relying on one professional waiter to supervise everything which is needed at any given table ( their station), the orders, the drinks and the table service are handled separately. The results were chaotic, and eventually became the butt of jokes because we never knew which dish or drink would appear in front of us, leading to frantic shuffling of plates and glasses. Many readers may consider this picayune, but the next example will drive my argument that Seabourn does not understand, or support superior service. After six days, our chambermaid ( excellent, by the way) alerted us that she was headed home to Namibia and that her replacement was boarding in Athens.This young lady had flown from New Zealand, and boarded the ship jet-lagged beyond recognition. Worse, she had never worked for Seabourn before and therefore was not familiar with their protocols.Once again, the result was chaotic. Between crash courses in safety procedures, she tried her mightiest to keep up with her cabins, but exhaustion won. Our cabin was barely made up at the end of the day, and I can only blame Seabourn for their work scheduling and hiring criteria. A professional employee ( ie familiar with the company after many contracts) would never let this happen. 2) The food on the ship was all over the map, from excellent to inedible. As a rule of thumb, the meals in the Restaurant were good, and became excellent with the Chef's menu ( once a week). The Collonade was good for lunch and marginal for dinner, while the Restaurant 2 was a nightmare. The latter was an experiment in tapas/ cuisine minceur run amok. The pool deck food was one giant salad bar, with soggy pizza. My main objection to Seabourn is its total lack of personality. The cruise director did not "direct" anything. Their were no activities such as trivia, bridge, golf etc. supported or promoted by the ship. Instead the director spent his time over the sound system constantly warning us about something:" If you don't show up at the safety muster we will throw you off; the seas are rough so be sure you are willing and capable of boarding a tender;if you don't board by 5pm, we will sail without you etc". Perhaps the Costa disaster has infected their behavior, but it is certainly not welcoming.And welcoming is the feeling that you should have on a premier line, but alas Seabourn is driven by a belief that they are good when in fact they are not. They get this belief by a relentless effort ( over the intercom by the Captain, no less) to get passengers to fill out feedback forms. In my hotel experience this is a false exercise because most people will rate anything highly just to get it over with. The fact are that when you drill down, and ask yourself if you had an exceptional experience, the answer will be no. Read Less

Once we were 'checked in' (which took about 20 minutes), were were dealt with efficiency and courtesy. Met on the pier, welcomed, guided to our cabin, shown its facilities and made to feel special. Our cabin steward quickly made herself known to us and welcomed us. Indeed, the most refreshing and positive aspect of the whole cruise was the professionalism, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, who went out of their way to serve us in every way. However, the very helpful and friendly demeanour never strayed into over-familiarity and this must be down to training and company philosophy and is to their credit Our cabin had a few housekeeping issues on arrival, which were dealt with immediately -â€" thereafter our cabin was spotless, as were all visible areas on the vessel. Linen, floors and windows were all clean and very presentable. Having stayed in high-class hotels, we recognise the standards as equivalent to many, and a deal better than some. The food. -â€" Just too much, too often! And the drink -â€" as much and as often as desired! However, we never saw any evidence of over-indulgence, although I often ended dinner feeling like a burst sofa. We were very impressed by the range of wines and drinks on offer, indeed we never at any time opened the courtesy spirits laid on in our suite. We have dined in some excellent restaurants throughout the world and, whilst there were odd courses or individual items which could have been hotter or more precisely cooked, we found the food to be of an excellent standard with good variety and options. My wife is a fish-eating vegetarian and (evening) dining room staff very quickly started to anticipate how her meal could be augmented on any given evening -â€" very impressive. The ship offered a good range of entertainment - individual, organised and self-organised and there was never any feeling of compulsion to participate unless we wished. The entertainment on board was good. Accomplished musicians were laid on for tea, functions and concerts and the standards were generally high and very acceptable, though it is never possible to cater for all tastes. We listened to a very knowledgable historian and our guides on the shore excursions were good - albeit an tad verbose and (well, Greek!) Most notably, Odyssey organised an evening visit and concert to Ephesus from Kushedasi for the passengers. Not only was the concert played in a magical and well-lit venue, we returned to the vessel to be met at 9pm by the whole crew of the ship lined along the pier with drinks, snacks and a vast 'welcome back' poster! - a very nice touch. As staff came to know us, they called us by name and very quickly demonstrated their awareness of our preferences (e.g. my early-morning espresso was being made as I entered the lounge and the wait-staff knew we preferred a certain Shiraz!), this level of personal attention was impressive and very much appreciated. We found the Odyssey an excellent size -â€" big enough for comfort, yet small enough to feel a bit exclusive. We dressed (me in a dark suit and my wife in a dark trousers/top combo) for formal nights. It was optional but most people made the effort, we never saw any evidence of the crew 'streaming' guests according to their formality of dress - I think we all felt it makes you feel special, if you make an extra effort to look the part for the occasion. So, to summarise -â€" yes we LOVED Seabourn -â€" an improvement on our recent experience of Norwegian Cruiseline and vast improvement on our much less recent experience of Carnival. Read Less
