We wanted to try out cruising, and being school teachers, needed a cruise that left or arrived in our home town during school holidays. This 4 night cruise from Auckland to Sydney was perfect. Embarkation was a breeze at the port of Auckland. There was no problem with being dropped off with luggage right by the terminal. We were happy with the cabin, it was exactly as we expected after researching. It was comfortable and clean, with everything we needed. Our steward was amazing at looking after us. That was actually the theme of the cruise - the most incredibly staff are on Princess. Our daughter has coeliac disease, and safe eating is the hardest thing when travelling with her. Not on Princess though - we ate in the formal dining room for pretty much every meal after the first day as the food was incredible, and they were able to cater for my daughter's gluten free needs, as well as her wants. I was blown away by how great the food was. The other options on board were perfectly good (we had breakfast once at the buffet, and tried out the terrace grill for lunch as well once, both good meals), but the anytime dining at Traviata was super special. Bar service was equally great. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. There are amazing cocktails on Princess! Our daughter had great fun at the youth club, and she also loved the pools. We became addicted to the trivia sessions, and found that there was always something to do if we wanted to do something. The show Encore was amazing, extraordinary talent. Lots of live music from classical to rock band, at all different times, and loads of opportunities to take part in activities - not bad for a 4 night cruise! The crossing was a wee bit rocky - as it often is when crossing the Tasman, which also meant they couldn't disembark at Bay of Islands, but they really tried to make it happen. We weren't planning on getting off there, so that didn't impact us. We were having too much fun exploring the boat. We would absolutely sail with Princess again, the trip exceeded expectations in so many ways. Read Less

We were supposed to cruise on the 24th February, but a cyclone off the Brisbane coast stopped that. We managed to get out of port on the 27th instead. Great communication from Princess but alas we missed the South Island of NZ as a result. But NZ put on its very best weather for us. It was like Queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next. I loved the new beds they’ve been on about. Very comfy. 2 fabulous comedians on board keeping us entertained and in stitches. The show band was also very entertaining. I’m doing this cruise again soon, this time hopefully I’ll get to see the South Island. The food was brilliant, I asked for anytime dining and being alone, I met new people every night. The menu was varied and food was plentiful, Lobster Tails, Atlantic Salmon, Beef Wellington, Lamb, New York Steak. And then the entrees and desserts. I think I overindulged a bit. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it departed from Brisbane and we had mutual friends already going. Our first impressions were of poor service. Especially in the bars. Servers weren’t just ignoring us they were downright rude. Drinks were really expensive. $8.75 for a small beer. There was also a 15 drinks a day maximum on the drinks package which was not advertised. All of the entertainment on this cruise other than the movies under the stars (which is great) targets the over 60’s. There is hardly anyone in the bars of a night and the nightclub doesn’t kick of until 10pm and is also dead. The shows and musical entertainment are also for the over 60’s. For positives the ship is immaculately clean and the food at all venues is exceptional. Also the kids club is fabulous! Possibly a good choice if you are over 60. Otherwise give it a miss. Read Less

Traveled on Sea Princess on a world cruise 2years ago and it was excellent. Recently traveled to Papua New Guinea again on the Sea Princess and felt completely at home again. We like the smaller ships as they are more personal in all services offered. The Conflict Islands on this cruise was excellent and we were lucky to have 2 days there. The cabin staff and restaurants were 5 star. Boarding and leaving the ship was very well organised and stress free. We are hoping to do Circle the Pacific Cruise in 12 months. The Princess Entertainiers was so good and every show was so professional and high quality. The Princess web site was excellent with information for on board activities and managing day to day spending. Internet was easy to access and use. Special mention also goes to the Cruise Entertainiment Manager who was so much fun and a great entertainer in his own right. Well done Mat and will never forget his saying. What are we going have- A GOOD TIME! Read Less

My wife and I chose to go on this cruise because two of our friends were taking it and asked us if we wanted to join them. Getting on the ship wasn’t too bad, there was some confusion emanating from being given two different sets of instructions from port side staff, but that was quickly overcome. The ship is small compared to some, so finding your way around doesn’t take long. We had a balcony cabin, I would say; if you can stretch yout money to at least this, then do it. You have enough room to move about plus you have the balcony to use at any stage of the cruise, it’s great for early in the morning when your pulling into port to jump out of bed and watch all the goings on outside. The main restaurant and the buffet were both fabulous, the food and service was always (I thought) of a very high standard. The shows were generally good, there were a couple that we went to that I just wanted to walk out on (they were that bad) but my wife kept a restraining arm on me (she said it would be rude) I said to her; that it was rude of them to offer up such dross. Hey ho.....all a matter of opinion. There are three things that we were most annoyed by.........the price of alcohol, around the $14 mark for a glass of wine and if you were feeling particularly flush, a minimum of around $50 for a bottle, and that’s at the cheap end. The Steakhouse.........it is the only “fine dining” experience on board. All be it in a partitioned off area of the main buffet (not in a separate venue). Reading Princesses blurb before coming on, they said it would cost an extra $29, on boarding that shot up to $35........HOW?? Secondly........don’t bother! I agree with a previous review; the steak was on the way to being tough and the veg looked like prison mush served up on plastic pudding plates. Save your money and just use the services provided that don’t cost any more. And thirdly I still get annoyed when you are charged extra to use the WiFi....this day and age this practice should not be happening. Read Less

Cruising wasn’t high on my to do list. Price and visions of ‘Titanic ‘ came to mind! Then mum and dad shouted the whole family on a 10 day cruise! 15 of us met and boarded smoothly and quickly at Brisbane port. First 2 days at sea gave us a chance to explore the ship. Our internal cabins were small but adequate, (could still swing a cat) had super comfy beds (and I don’t have a great back!) refreshed daily and yummy chocolate on the pillow at night! Nobody goes hungry on a cruise! Food everywhere in endless supply! They met our dietary requirements. Friendly wait staff. Big outdoor movie at night by the pool is a must! Lots of activities throughout the day so study the timetable the night before. We gave Zumba a go to try and reduce the food baby that had developed! Yes I’m unco! Teen club a must!! 16yr old boy not keen. Signed him up on day one.... hardly saw him again! He didn’t want to leave!! Shore excursions relaxing on beaches. Beautiful warm water but really hot the more north we got! Don’t forget you rash top, hat and heaps of sunscreen! Overall I enjoyed my first cruise! Read Less

Decided to take hubby on a 14 day cruise to NZ for his 60th birthday and had a great time. Our room A302 [Aloha Deck] While small had everything we needed [an amazingly comfy bed, lovely balcony to have breakfast & drinks out on & PLENTY of storage for all our gear...I had packed for winter & summer as we expected NZ to be cold, but apart from 1 cold day and 1 bitterly cold night , the weather & seas couldnt have been more perfect] Ariel was our wonderful guy who looked after us , he did a wonderful job ! Negatives with regards to the room were aircon seemed to mysteriously turn off for a few hours overnight, making it quite stuffy in the rooms....heard a lot of guests complain about it[we ended up sleeping with the balcony doors open] towels in the shower need to be upgraded to AT LEAST the size of the pool towels[we just use to take clean ones up from the pool] . And a small design fault in our room where the chair didn't fit under the desk, taking up valuable floor space. Food in Horizon could sometimes be a bit hit & miss, but their was really so much that you could always find plenty. I did notice that when it was sushi day & ramen noodle/choose your own stir fry day this was very popular. Maybe sushi on the cold selection side could considered[also where was the kewpie mayonnaise...a must with sushi] Traviato dinning [we chose any time] was always delicious , we sat with a different table every night and got to realise that some people really love cruising...sat with a couple that were on their 3rd back to back & another couple that have done more than 50 cruises and have 5 more booked for this year] Our wait staff were exceptional. A few negatives , Curtis Stone where were you ? On a 14 day cruise we had a repeat of just 3 of his dishes[seafood stew with fennel...amazing, chicken & leek pot pie, just as good & pork belly...sorry pork belly just doesn't cut it without the crackling& where were the crispy potatoes advertised?] The price of wine/alcohol in general was through the roof...they were out of stock of a number of the bottle's of wine right from the start of the cruise. We ended up buying a couple of bottles of wine on our winery tour and were happy to pay the $15 corkage & have them with our dinner.Think also the wait staff should also include in their nightly talk[specials etc] If any one needs something explained please ask , I am more than happy to explain it to you. We sat on tables a number of times where people didn't know what an item was on the menu[beef wellington with truffle, madeira demi glaze...the lady next to me didn't know what any of it was , until I explained Also pork & duck rillettes was a stumper for some people ...I love cooking & eating , so was more than happy to explain when I heard anyone a little lost] , but were a bit intimidated to ask. If the wait staff included this I am sure they would get some inquiries. Its also time to can the old traditions[like the bomb Alaska parade...fake bombs with candle don't hold a match to the real thing with flames] and maybe start to invent some new princess traditions. We went on this cruise purely to relax, so the entertainment was way down on our to do list, but I do think the number of people playing the Grand Piano was excessive and even the older ballroom dancing generation barely got up on the floor. Mosaic was an excellent bank on board the ship as were the 2 girls that played the electrical strings. The rest we gave a miss, happy to catch movie under the stars most nights [2 checkerboard man shows were great] Shore tour were mostly good though very expensive...think I would go more research about private tours in future as I saw many tours on land advertised significantly cheaper than we paid . Though Princess did throw on complimentary shuttles at nearly every port, which I thought was very good of them. Staff in general is AMAZING. And go out of their way to make your holiday great. Bar staff in Crooners was probably the most disappointing. Twice we went in their for a drink and both times had to wait a good length of time to be served[they seemed to delight in having lengthy conversations with their regulars] Also more staff on the main pool deck is needed. People constantly leave their wet towels just hanging on chairs and when new people come looking for a lounger they don't know whether its taken or not[especially movie time] Also on cruises with a warmer climate I'm sure the cookies and milk would go down better in the evening. Saw the staff give out plenty of cookies during the day & very few glasses of milk. At night that would be great The specialty coffees card & soft drinks card were definitely a money saver , but could also be very hit & miss. Since when have cappuccinos been specialty coffee? Pretty standard if you ask me. We had gotten a few cappuccinos with breakfast before we realised they were coming off the card. We preferred to keep them for the iced coffee variety and special coffees. We always had a laugh when we ordered our specialty coffees and commented on how they would turn out. Because their was very little consistency with them. Some times way too much syrup in them making them impossible to drink. We found the mocktails on the beverage card to be the same. You never really knew what you were going to get. Also its time to ditch the premixes for your coctails , they really do make for a poor version of the real thing[pina colada for example] Would I go with Princess again...definitely. Is their room for improvement, yes , without a doubt. Its time to bring cruising into the 21st century and stop living in the past and just repeating the same things over that have been done for decades. Read Less

The captain and his wife of the Sea Princess sat and ate lunch with me in Horizons buffet. Such a beautiful couple. This is why the staff are so beautiful because it comes from the top. Highly recommend Princess Cruises and the 14 night around NZ . Staterooms are wonderful and were cleaned up to 3 times a day. Food was amazing and entertainment outstanding especially MOSAIC. Kids were always happy and had so many activities to do, families around the ship had so many activities to choose from all day long. Bingo, casino, movies, coffee or tea, ballroom classes, Zumba, Trivia Games, Karaoke, dancing in the bars with Mosaic and do much more. Cruise was great despite 4 floods,a fire in the library and a broken down engine in cairns. Food overall was excellant except for the stirling steakhouse. .where the meat was dreadful and the vegetables likened to prison mush. The ports of call were good but princess needs to expediate the tender service. Leaving everyone in 34 degrees plus heat for exceptionally long periods of time is not acceptable. On board facilities were an acceptable standard however the attendants would leave the male and female change room doors open at the gym. As the signage is on the door people kept getting confused. Twice i had a lady walk in on me in the shower and the sauna in the mens change room. Princess cruises are great but the shine has definitely tarnished. Entertainment was excellant and the cruise director was good at his job. The room attendant was very good and s9 obliging. You do get what you pay for and princess is a good mid range cruise line. Great cruise. Have done it twice now and loved it both times. Friendly crew, great food and great ship. Sea Princess is my favorite ship. I have been on her 3 times now. Entertainment was good, (Freddy Mercury impersonator the very best), but other shows were quite good as well. Restaurant was good for Breakfast lunch and dinner although we will need to go on a diet now as we just could not turn back any of the fabulous food on offer (Challenge was accepted). Cabin was spacious and very well positioned on deck 8 which was handy to almost everywhere we wanted to go. Embarkation and de-embarkation was a breeze and reasonably quick with no hassles. This is one of the reasons we enjoy cruising over flying as it is much easier to board a ship than go through the airport hassles. All in all the Sea Princess is a very well run ship and I would definable sail on her again.. Read Less

We actually did most of Australia, joining the cruise in Perth, followed by a back-to-backcruise to New Zealand. A total of 30 days. What we have discovered over several years of cruising is that cruise success is tied to the Captain. The tighter the ship, the better the cruise. This ship was well run and the crew was awesome. And a change of Captain 3/4's of the way through didn't change things. This was our first time in a "Sea" Class Princess ship. Total passengers 2000, average passenger count 1900. Our opinion is that the public areas are too small. Inside cabin passengers tended to sit in the bars and read, blocking others who wanted bar access. To be fair it was cool in NZ so sitting outside wasn't always an option. We had a basic balcony room which seemed small to us. Our room attendant was great though, and we enjoyed our balcony. The itinerary was very good and we took advantage of seeing the different parts of Australia. We had only had been to Sydney prior, and NZ was beautiful. We have also discovered that the longer the cruise, and the more sea days, equates to older and many more medically challenged passengers. That isn't a bad thing, but it is a data point most people should understand. We don't go to the restaurants on ships anymore, only the buffet. If you have to wear long pants I won't go. And the Horizon Court Buffet on this ship was the best layout we have ever seen. Lots of room and large isles make it easy to move. I should also state that one of the reasons that we like Process is because we feel they are more flexible than most cruise lines. They allow excursion cancellation within 48 hours and BIG POINTS for having laundarmats on most floors. Having said that, this ship had two washers and two dryers on most floors which is a reduction from 4 and 4 on other ships. Add to that the machines were substandard at best, and the advantage to Princess is eroding rapidly. Whoever made the decision to choose these inferior machines should have been fired - period. Or, is it a strategy of Princess to get passengers to pay for laundry due to the frustrating experienced of washing your own clothes? (and saving a lot of money)... We probably won't book another Princess Sea Class Ship as we didn't care for the lack of public space. We still prefer Princess, but if they continue to 'cost cut' on the passenger experience we may find another cruise line. Read Less

We are regular cruisers. We like to have a change of environment about twice a year. There was no special reason for this particular cruise. It just happened to be about the right time of the year for us. We choose Princess because they are one of the few cruise lines to operate from Brisbane. Also, they have the best loyalty program. We have been using Princess Cruises mostly, but we may need to re-think our priorities if Princess continue to downgrade their food quality, and menu choices. The quality deterioration is especially noticeable in the buffet area, but the restricted menu applies generally. Smoking is still encouraged on cruise ships by providing smoking areas in public spaces on board. Passengers are encouraged to complete the survey at the end of the cruise. This will take about half an hour, No acknowledgement is ever made of any comments or suggestions. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was short and left from our home city. We had not been on a cruise before. After this cruise, I would not recommend that anyone affected at all by motion sickness book a cruise, even with the medications available for purchase in chemists. The activities available on a cruise, particularly outdoor activities for children, are significantly affected by the weather, so a cruise in poor, cool or rough weather conditions can rule out all swimming and deck activities. Our shore excursion was also markedly impacted by the weather, with none of the water activities we paid for being available on the day at Hamilton (snorkelling, kayaks etc). This left only beach swimming and using the pool, activities not worth the hundreds of dollars the excursion cost us. It is also a very lengthy process to get to shore locations- it took 2 hours to get from Hamilton back to the Princess in poor weather, and required 2 boat trips and a bus ride. Coffee drinkers should also note that the free coffee on the Princess is terrible, and the coffee which you can buy only marginally better. This might sound petty, but those who are regular coffee drinkers will understand how crushing four days with absolutely terrible coffee can be!! Read Less

The waiters are rude in that they ignore you or at best say "yes"?? How about they hire wait staff who understand the language enough to have a conversation. You feel like you are talking to robots. Our rooms were clean (but not to the standard of Royal Caribbean) and the beds were so comfy (better than Royal Caribbean). Entertainment was so so, not bad but not A grade. Food was good, not great. Lots and lots of older people so no loud music at all will be tolerated lol. Pretty boring really no activities for kids other than kids room. Most bars are closed until 3pm and no real entertainment, an Irish singer (love Ireland but can only hear so many Irish tunes). A piano man again so so and a duo playing violin and a Caribbean band that's it guys. They have shuttleboard but couldn't find the rules. It was nice but the staff made it a very disappointing cruise with their lack of warmth. PRincess need to check who they are hiring. We missed all ports due to bad weather but that didn't bother me. The captain made the right decision and kept us safe. I would have had a lovely time if not for the coldness of most of the staff. I hate to complain but Couldn't stand how they were. Read Less

My wife and I wanted to see Cairns Australia and travel on the Kuranda railway. We selected this cruise for this purpose, but unfortunately the ship could not dock in Cairns because of high winds. This also applied to other ports on this cruise, except for Airlie Beach. Apart from this disappointment the actual cruising was great. I must also mention that it had been my policy, not to cruise with other Australians. It is difficult to put this diplomatically, but I went against this policy for the efficiency of embarking in Brisbane, not far from our home, where we could drive to the port and park nearby. To say we were soon disappointed and embarrassed with our fellow Australians (and some New Zealanders) is an understatement. The "bogans" as we call them here were everywhere. The wandering of the ship with beer bottle in hand by poorly attired men (and some women too) was repulsive. I better leave it at that, but I could go on a lot further. Needless to say, I will re-instate my previous policy from now on. The dining room (Traviata Dining Room) staff were outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure meeting them and to be served by them. The dishes we tried each night were superb, if a little low on volume. I cannot see Americans accepting the low portion sizes. The usual problem with finding a table in the Horizon Court was in evidence on this ship also. It seems to be a universal problem. I do not like being forced to eat food at a table with people I do not know. I was expecting The Sea Princess to look a little dated after reading feedback from other people. I know it has been refreshed lately, but I found its condition to be superb. Apart from previously mentioned disappointments I enjoyed this cruise for what it was. Read Less

We flew to Singapore to join the Sea Princess but she still had plenty of work not done including carpets not laid and the kids club was not able to be used for the whole 12 day voyage. Bringing three grandchildren with us it was a bit disappointing but they still had a great time, thanks to the lovely staff who looked after them in various places around the ship. There were some very poor choices in carpet especially the new grey and white carpet in the buffet which looked dirty after a few days! What were they thinking! The cruise went from Singapore to Phuket,Langkawi,Penang,KL, Bali and finally Fremantle. As on all Australian based Princess ships the staff were great especially the waiters and cabin staff. Upper management seemed to be clueless at times and would not give the people under them any powers to make decisions. Our minibar setup had stale dated soft drinks in it and it was a real struggle to get this issue sorted out. No one seemed to have any authority to fix the problem. We had been to all the ports before but our son and grandchildren had not so for them it was frustrating when the ship was late docking at almost all the ports.WHY? Anyway we had a great time thanks to a very nice cruise director Neil and the many regular staff who were kind and friendly. Oh by the way the new beds were really great! Meals were pretty good although we had some tough steak a couple of times. I think the Princess crown is slipping a bit especially in the Australian ships in terms of quality of food. Read Less

We are regular Princess cruisers having traveled 8 times in the last 5 years. This is our second time on the Fremantle to Albany run, Both times on the Sea Princess. As with all Princess cruises the shore team pre and post cruise were excellent - efficient and well staffed this whole experience was seamless. Sadly we had numerous toilet issues and whilst the response time was always short the failure to resolve the problem was disappointing. After the first few complaints they did recognise the issue and intrusion by providing a small tray of chocolates to keep us sweet. Staff on the ship were as always polite and made every effort to make our trip a relaxing time where we feel like true kings and queens of the waves. Sadly wait times at several bars seemed far longer than usual and a happy hour when you can only get one order filled in the hour is hardly very happy. Albany is a beautiful port and tying up in the harbour means only a short walk into the town centre - don't miss the ANZAC Centre, a must do for any first time visitor. The town offers a range of options for the first timer with most things within walking distance of the shuttle drop off. The Anzac Centre is a short taxi ride and really too far to walk. Busselton the second stop is a tender port. The jetty is a wonderful walk if the wind is mild and the town offers a range of small town facilities. Busselton is not Margaret River despite the advertising and a 45 minute bus ride is required before you reach the famous wine region. Sea Princess is looking a little tired but the cruising experience and the limited number of short cruises out of Fremantle make this opportunity too good to miss. Read Less

The 4 of us are from Sydney. We flew to Brisbane, booked an Uber taxi to the cruise terminal. The ship is small, it my 5th cruise with the Princess line. I'm only interested in short cruises, my budget and time allows me to do this. Passenger service desk was attentive and great customer service, there were 3 printing stations to print and track your expenses. A few families due to the school holidays, a few Asians, but mainly Aussies, and all age groups. There was also 2 weddings performed in this cruise. When the ship left Brisbane, there was no real entertainment like they do on Golden and Diamond Princess, just sad and no real vibe. Embarkment and Disembarkement was excellent, as one of us had a disability. The staterooms on Sea Princess are very small, but you get by. Our room attendant, Jayson was great, and as always we tipped him. I felt a lot of rocking and slightly sea sick in the stateroom when siting down, I think it's because we were at the back of the ship, but for sleeping no problem, as we were out on the deck most of the day. All other room attendant and staff always acknowledged our presence when walking pass. The ship needs some refurbishment and especially with plumbing issues. Some rooms had big toilet issues. We dined in the Rigoletto dining room, for 5.30pm sitting. Our waiters Vladyslau and Rodigo was great, and ensured we we satisfied with our meals - we tipped them too. Roast beef dish was melt in your mouth, Curtis Stone was offered on the menu - the seafood stew was terrible. Paella dish was also terrible. The seafood terrine was delicious. The Horizon buffet is the same as usual, just ok to if you are hungry or if you want to pig out. There is always something there for you eat. Great desserts and presentation. New Zealand ice cream bar is no longer free, you must now pay. Coffee no matter what is terrible, but you get by. The Terrace Grill was fine, but there was a lot of wastage with people taking more than they should on to their plate....just plain greedy. The piano/singer, Funch was great with oldies and mid 40-50s. Did not like the group band Steel or the comedian with his farting jokes, people were walking out. I guess they were cheap to hire. Princess is cutting down on expenses, treasure hunt was cancelled. Did not partake in activities. Karoke was held for 3 nights, 1st night we had a terrible, boring host. 2nd night did not attend, 10.30pm starting time....rather a late start. 3rd night was great with a new host, and the audience wanted more. The music book choice is rather bulky and tack-icky, taking too long to find a song choice, and disorganised. Overall our 3 nights was good, to relax, to recharge, and to eat and eat more, with great weather. Read Less

A cruise I had wanted to do for a long time, I thoroughly enjoyed the ports of call, Geraldton, Broome, anchor in the Kimberleys, Darwin, Cairns and Alotau. Loved the locals and all their attention in Geraldton, along with their $5 hop on hop off bus - best value of the trip. Due to a medical emergency we missed out on Port Douglas, and instead of mooring offshore in Cairns, we actually docked in town. Question why we couldn't have done that anyway? Something to do with tides etc perhaps. Dining and our table of 8 were a lovely bunch, as Pam said, it's like sitting down with the family each night - catching up on what everyone had done during the day. Wish I could say the same about our waiters - why couldn't they remember (it was a 16 day cruise) that I was the only one who never had pepper - my patience did run out a little towards the end. Our wine waiter never knew what ingredients were in the martinis I requested - he had to go away to find out, then came back with half an answer. I wonder if their lack of care was a result of knowing they weren't getting extra tips - as the tips had been taken care of in our cruise fare. Other cruises we have done, the waiters knew everything about us the second day in. Cabin was small but adequate, and very sound proof - a definite bonus. Our attendant was also wonderful. The food was okay, yes plenty of it, but sometimes the eclectic mix didn't always add up to the best tasting food. Stand out were the pizzas in the Corniche Café. The entertainment was great the first time around, but several of the artists made repeat performances, which fell flat second time in. The sea days activities were good, but always the same. I mean, how many people wanted to do quilling each day? It would have been nice to have a bit more variety. Having said that, I liked nothing more than to laze on Deck 7 with my ipad, reading stories, then snoozing or gazing out at the gorgeous blue/green ocean sailing past. The main thing I disliked about the entire cruise (don't get me wrong I really did love our time onboard) apart from all the people who got a cold, then sneezed and coughed over everyone, was the airconditioning. Outside it was balmy with sea breezes, then step inside and freeze. So much so that when I succumbed to the lurgy onboard, I had to wear my coat to keep warm. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it gave us the itinerary that we wanted and had previously sailed on the Sun Princess to NZ. We found this cruise to be very good mostly. There was a lot of time wasted on precious hours in Darwin where the disembarkation took far too long. Another thing that annoyed our party of seven was the constant asking us to purchase the coffee card. We do not drink a lot of coffee and definitely not enough to warrant purchasing the coffee card. That also applied to waiters asking us to purchase liquors after dinner. We would like those two features of the trip to be taken out of the staff duties. Our cabin man Gilbert was excellent - you knew he had been but he was very discreet. Our waiters on table 193 for the 5.30 seating in Traviata Dining Room (Jerrick and Ema) were sweet, polite and very efficient and had a very good working relationship. The crew were 99% fantastic. The lovely South African Jodie I think was her name was the perfect person for the job that she did. Totally suited!! I thought the cruise was really good because we shared it with like minded people Read Less

I was not aware upon embarking the ship the she had only come out of a two week major refurbishment and mechanical refit the day before taking on passengers. So it was not surprising there were problems with some areas of the ship, although we did not experience personally. The crew lived up to the service we have come to expect from Princess Cruises. The food was good and in the Horizons, plentiful. The dining room food was good and the service provided by the wait staff excellent. It is not well publicised but there is a 15% service charge on all food and beverage purchases. Check the reverse side of your cruise card and there you will find mention of it. The ports of call, Phucet, Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur and Lombok were all shrouded in smoke from the illegal burning in Indonesia. This made going ashore most uncomfortable. Langkowi was not scheduled for Tender Disembarkation and came as a surprise. This was a debacle! We were informed the night previously that by 1030-1100 on the day of arrival those going on tours etc would be ashore. We then were given a landing number. At 1430 we had still not got ashore and decided it was not worth it as return onboard was at 1700. So we remained on the ship. This was good as people were queuing one and a half hours with no shade or seats to return. The crew shoreside seemed unable or unwilling to ease the problem. No water was provided only damp towels. Entertainment was good but unfortunately no guest speakers, only one on astrology. Many passengers had problems with showers, toilets and sewage. Some cabins and public areas experienced minor flooding. Draught beer was not available at the Riviera Bar after the first few days. Given that staff had no time to test systems after the refit it is surprising there were not more problems. I suffer every cruise with a cough. We were given advice by a friend to take Glen20 disinfectant and Detol wipes. We cleaned all surfaces in the cabin and sprayed INSIDE the pillow cases with Glen20. Result no coughs or sniffles. Whether this was from our decontam efforts or not I don't know, but we will be taking disinfectant son future cruises. Ask so until the burning off in Indonesia I advise anyone going to SE Asia to take medical masks, something we had with us and wore whenever outside the ship or ashore, because the ship was shrouded in smoke even out at sea. Embarkation in Singapore was lengthy and very tiring on the elderly. We had documentation checked 7 times AFTER passing immigration, which held up embarkation. Why? Read Less

We went on this cruise to NZ and did enjoy the Destination it was great. We are a middle aged couple and went with two of our kids one 20 and one 16. I called and found out about activities for the 16 year old and they advised me that there was heaps including DJ classes. however when we board after I paid full fare for him they advise me that due to not enough teens on board they have cancelled his activities. NO APOLOGY. Also I asked the call centre if they had coke 0 on board as its all I can drink due to medical reason and they said we don't know. I found that all they had on board was to cater for over 80's very disappointed, we had travelled on Carnival before and loved it so be careful who you travel with and part your money. if you cruise just make sure that you take entertainment with you as all the shows were older songs I mean 50 and 60's. we still enjoyed it but they need to not make it JUST for the older travellers (even some of them were complaining about the entertainment) thank god that NZ was beyond our expectations and well worth the trip. Will be travelling again but not with Princess. Food was warm if not cold and on several occasions we had to send it back and we are not fussy but cold raw chicken I draw the line!!!! I lodged a complaint to the line about them cancelling my sons activities and they did not bother to respond as they already have my money and get plenty more from the retiree's that love Princess. Example of catering for oldies only if you went to the late show ie 1015pm it finished about 11pm so most if not all food places were closed you had to go to your cabin and order room service just for a late night snack. no pizza after 10pm and I get it most of the people are in bed night club was fun as it was just myself and my kids as no one else ever went.
