We had a not exactly great experience (Well, to be honest it was awful) on the Scenic Pearl in 2016 and had almost thought of cancelling this cruise. But the two ships and experiences were like Chalk & Cheese. Spirit is only one year old and is immaculate. We had a Grand Deluxe Cabin (#303) which was superb ( A few niggles with the glass toilet door and the lack of long hanging space in an otherwise HUGE dressing room) The staff - from the guides to the butler to the dining staff and cruise director (Paula) couldn't do enough for you. Indeed that was the major difference with the Scenic Pearl where you thought that they couldn't care less about you. The Spirit staff are excellent. The food on board was equally good. We particularly like the 11 course tasting menu offered one evening. The excursions were well thought out - offering a mix of top tourist locations and off-the-beaten-track locations. The markets were fantastic - The WET market I Sa Dec was truly amazing! The ox cart ride, tuk tuk ride to 'Tea at Raffles' were amongst other high spots. But, to be honest, they were all good. We also did the pre cruise trip to Angkor Wat and the post cruise stay in Saigon. Both excellent and not to be missed. The Hyatt hotels used in both locations were to notch. If there was one #1 evening it was Show & Dinner at the Kraven Temple put on just for us! 300 dancers, soldiers etc. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. So THANKYOU SCENIC for restoring our faith in you. BTW - V few English people on board. Almost everyone was Ozzie! But extremely friendly and they also helped to make the trip memorable Read Less

We have travelled with Scenic for 10 years and have completed 5 river cruises with them in addition to many land tours. We love the fact that everything is included, itineraries are varied and staff are so well-trained. The Scenic spirit is a truly luxurious ship and we were fortunate to be upgraded to one of the Royal Panorama Suites. Luxuriating in our own jacuzzi with a glass of wine at the end of each day's shore excursion was sheer bliss. I also highly recommend Shretty's massages in the Wellness centre. Twenty-four of the 60 passengers had already travelled together from Hanoi for 12 days on a land tour and had formed a tight knit "Sticky Rice" group with our fabulous Vietnamese tour director, Nghia. This meant we were together for most of the shore excursions with him and Dara, a local Cambodian tour guide. One afternoon Dara gave us a lesson on how to tie the Khmer (Cambodian scarf) which had us laughing for days. Paula, Joyce and Eric run the cruise smoothly, like a well-oiled machine. Everything happened exactly as they said and their staff are super organised, friendly and capable. The Captain and his crew had to dock in some 'interesting' places and were very creative in making sure we were able to step ashore safely for our excursions. Ario and his team never let us go hungry and introduced us to lots of local delicacies and the friendly, happy waiters were a bonus. Our gorgeous Cambodian butler, Sithat, anticipated our every need and brought us fruit after lunch and chocolates after dinner. Thanks to her we were able to have several pre-dinner drinks and canape evenings with some of our new friends in our cabin. An added bonus with our cabin allocation was being able to send bags of laundry to be done every day. With the high humidity we certainly took advantage of this. All shore excursions were interesting and educational, some such as tasting snake wine and holding a python more challenging than others and the Killing Fields were really confronting. Scenic are to be congratulated for their support of local communities and children's charities. It was such a wonderful week we were all sad to have to leave the ship. Read Less

This was our first European River Cruise. Having done all-inclusive cruises with Regent Seven Seas we decided that an all-inclusive river cruise would be the way to go. We were certainly not disappointed. The experience was even better than we expected from beginning to end. We were met directly in Budapest and taken directly to the ship even though there were only 5 of us, three in our group. Our arrival time was perfect and we did not have to go to a hotel to wait for transfer. Our cabins were made ready in short order and were very well-appointed. A little smaller than we were used to, but well thought out and extremely clean. This was the case from day one until the day we disembarked. The food was excellent and several choices of entrees each day. The evening at the specialty restaurant was great with wonderful Italian cuisine. I can't say enough good things about the staff and crew. Our wait staff was amazing, so friendly and helpful. The bar staff could not have been any better, always making sure that you were taken care of promptly. Something was always available for snacking, either in the lounge or from your well-stocked cabin. Breakfast was filled with choices, either buffet or made to order. Our butler was wonderful - coffee arrived every morning on time -- sometimes even before I called! The service was exceptional.. Our cruise director, J.J., was one of the most energetic people I have ever had the pleasure to sail with. Funny and always smiling, he made the daily briefings lots of fun and the events he planned for the evenings were great. Entertainment was excellent for such a small ship and you would be hard pressed to complain about the quality of any of the musicians and artists that we were provided. The shore excursions were very well organized, great bus drivers, and almost every one of the guides we had proved to be excellent -- they spoke English quite well and made each trip off the ship a pleasure. Always felt that they were doing their very best to give us a good experience and keep us safe too. The ship had a problem with low water during the trip, but Scenic went above and beyond to make sure we never missed a port or excursion and we were able to finish the cruise exactly as planned. I know the officers and crew worked extremely hard to make our cruise exceptional in every way. When we went to disembark at the end, our little group of three were the only ones going to the airport at that time, so we had a wonderful private van with a great driver. He even followed us into the Amsterdam airport and made sure that we were in the proper line for check-in. He did not leave us until we were actually at the desk for check-in. You could not ask for better service! We loved the whole Scenic experience - we will definitely use them again, hopefully for the Budapest to Black Sea trip. Read Less

This was our first river cruise. I must say I am please we choose Scenic. I gave it only 4 stars because of the lack of communication between Scenic prior to sailing. Other than that the ship is beautiful and well laid out. What they can do with a small space was wonderful. The food was way better than I ever expected including the buffet which I hate buffets. Everyone herding at one time to get there plate full. This seemed to work quiet well and great choices. The cruise director was a very hard working. Wanted everyone happy even if they choose to do nothing or go on every side trip and watch every performance. Our butter was the best. Now I must say my husband was a bit disappointed as far as all inclusive. He likes Royal Crown whiskey in the evening so upon getting to our room as stock was told we could not have it in our room but could go to the bar area. Now my husband has mobility problems and guess who was going to the bar to return with his glass of Royal Crown. Now the other minor problem was on booking we could not upgrade our room on the land package even if we were willing to pay more??? Perhaps they all have little things that could make them first class. The Danube is beautiful and a great choice. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to do a Rhine cruise and the dates coincided with our Ruby wedding anniversary and our friends 60th Birhtday ( We are from The UK our friends from Australia ) We arrived at the ship in Nuremburg to a warm welcome and glass of champagne. Most passengers had already boarded at Budapest a week earlier and so we were one of only six couples to board. We were given a welcome briefing which was brief, practical and on the whole useful. Our cabin was comfortable and reasonably spacious - the innovative balcony windows are a great idea. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The cabin staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble - the same can be said for all the staff aboard the ship. I personally found the meals to be disappointing as I a a Vegetarian and found there was very limited chice. Lunchtime was particularly disappointing - often of the two soups available one was rarely vegetarian and if it was it was often a cold soup ( yuk ! ) The lunchtime Bar- B-Q was also a disappointment - vegetarian options were lettuce, mini corn on the cob and jacket potatoes. There was a wide selection of meat and fish dishes but where were the vegetable kebabs, vegetarian sausages etc ? On another occasion there was a meat lasagna - wherre was the vegetable lasagna ...? ! ! Evening meals offered only one vegetarian option per course - I guess you coud call that adaquate but how many non vegetarian passengers would settle for ony one option per course ? Acceptable on a basic cruise but not in my opnion on a cruise advertised as five star. ( And yes we have been on 5 star cruises ! ) The bar and dining room staff work very hard ( Bar staff double up as waiters in the dining room in the evenings ) But due to the fact that everyone is expected in the dining room at the same time; it can be a long wait before you are served your meal and an even longer wait for wine ( There is no wine waiter ) We often had to ask busy staff for wine and also to be topped up. There is a longe with a bar in which some entertainment is provided most nights. The lounge is very crowded and it was often difficult to find a seat. This however was not the main problem. On our first evening we noticed a great many passengers were coughing and anticipated the worst. Unfortunatly it was not just a cought but a flu like virus and sadly both ourselves and one of our friends caught the virus. Not surprising given the close proximity of passengers in the lounge. I would estimate that at least 80% of passengers were take ill. In fairness to Scenic it was not thier fault that someone brought the virus aboard the ship and there is an emphasis on using the hand gel dispensers located at the entrance to public areas and at the entrance of the ship. But sadly our experience was spoilt and our wedding anniversary celebrations non existant. The same can be said of our friends 60th Birthday celebrations. On balance I would say the cruise was enjoyable - there are some good excursions, the staff are excellent and the cabins very comfortable. But if you are a Vegetarian think again about booking and don't book a river cruise end of September onwards - the possibility of catching a virus would be very high. It only needs one person to bring a virus aboard the ship and sadly it can spoil the entire experience. Read Less

This was our second river cruise with Scenic having previously sailed from Budapest to Amsterdam earlier this year. We found this cruise to be less frenetic and we were able to enjoy the ports of call in the afternoons and evenings after the daily included excursions had returned to the ship. The ship's officers and staff were very friendly and were always on hand as we embarked and disembarked the daily tours. The daily tours were excellent and the local guides provided a lot of interesting information. The quantity and quality of food offered at both breakfast and lunch was excellent, however we did find the rather strict regime of dining promptly at 7pm to be rather restrictive, as some times we would have preferred more time for our evening cocktails' We would have liked more vegetables to be offered with dinner and also bread rolls rather than the very small slices of baguettes on offer. All in all a very good experience and we have booked to travel with Scenic in 2017 on the Seine river cruise. Read Less

We recently sailed the Danube River on the Scenic Ruby from Nuremberg to Budapest. This was our first river cruise. My expectations were high and I have to say Scenic exceeded them. Our cruise director was Adrian. He was very organized and an excellent communicator. Our butler was Pratish. He was very friendly and eager to please. The entire staff was friendly and hard working. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs. Scenic offered at least 2 excursions each day and an additional one at night a few nights. You can also do self-guided tours or just hang out on the boat if you like. They have electric assist bicycles that we used several times including a 22 mile excursion along the Danube. The food was excellent with many choices every day. Scenic claims to be all inclusive and I found that to be true. We went on any excursion we wanted, ate whatever we wanted and had unlimited drinks day and night at no additional charge. Read Less

We liked that the cruise was all inclusive - no extra charges for excursions, tips, drinks. There was an ample number of choices for the excursions, or you could stay on the ship, or take an e-bike out and tour the town at your leisure. They'd even pack a lunch for you if you were going to be gone through the lunch hour. The service on board was excellent, the staff friendly and well informed about all aspects of the trip. The cabin was very well maintained, exceptionally clean as were all the public areas. The food was out of this world, and the presentation was creative. The portions were appropriate. Scenic had explored various entertainment options, offering us everything from an exquisite concert in a formal atmosphere to an Oktoberfest party, as well as some performers and speakers brought on board to entertain, amuse and educate us. It was all great. At the end of the tour, we had no outstanding expenses with the tour company. Our only out-of -pocket costs were for souvenirs for those we left behind at home. Embarkation and disembarkation went without a hiccup. Their systems have been well tested by time and experience. Things could not have gone more smoothly. Read Less

We were in one of the Royal Balcony cabins which was spacious and comfortable. The Butler and the cabin attendant saw to all our needs which included our Wedding anniversary and my birthday. Dining was excellent, breakfast was a buffet (very extensive) and lunch and dinner were a la carte (waiter served). Port and shore excursions were interesting and informative all made exciting by the Tour Director. Travelling to the Ship from the Zurich airport (luxury coach) and returning to the Amsterdam airport (limousine) was handled by Scenic. Luggage transportation was all handled well as our cases were in the cabin before we got there. If you are going on a river cruise look no further than Scenic. Read Less

Chose Scenic at that particularly time to celebrate our 40th Anniversary in my husbands family's heritage - Germany and for me to see Vienna, Spanish Riding School. Sadly they advertise 5 star dinning but it is at best 3 star. Ignored emails for us and our travel agent (6 in total) and we told three people when we boarded that the wife is seriously allergic to all fish and sea food products - I still go served fish 4 days into the trip that did not look like fish and was not ordered. The staff blamed us for not telling the company (we had 3 times) - one response state "we cant guarantee food requests can be met". We were told your met at the airport and taken to the ship. Nope we spent 7 hours in a hotel function room waiting to go to the ship. We had been traveling 35 hours in the same clothes by the time we got on board! All we wanted was our room and shower - but first Scenic crew wanted a lovely meet and greet with champagne - YUK! when your sweaty and dirty from traveling. To many Port calls they go on and on and everyone is expected to attend (at least a couple a day). While the crew handled a difficult time badly (rive closed for few days) the companies options were appalling - cut Vienna to 4.5 hours (the worlds cultural centre) and we had four days in row going to medieval villages - no offense but seen one seen them all - the best one was Rottenberg. There are no picnic baskets as advetised - the crew had never heard of such things. Meal times are ridiculously strict - and tend to over rule travel one would like to do - seriously the first two weeks of our once in a lifetime anniversary trip ruined by living to scheduale we do that for a living! May as well have stayed at work. However, Great Britain and Switzerland were awesome and made up for the cruise - scenic had nothing to do with that part of our trip. PS butler to look after your every whim - rubbish we saw him twice to say hello day 1 and goodbye on day 15. I am told Viking are much better company to travel with. Our Cabin Steward Putu was fantastic!!! Needless to say we thanked him privately. Read Less

We have just returned from a 14 day cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Scenic Jasper. This was our first river cruise and the cruise surpassed our highest expectations. There was no question that Scenic is a 5 star cruise line as there was nothing they wouldn’t do to try and make the cruise the best experience possible. Most of the passengers were from Australia with a few from New Zealand, Canada and the US. The crew were mostly from eastern European countries but were friendly and very well trained. We had a choice of two to three excursions almost every day and the guides were all excellent and all spoke very good english. Scenic’s Taylor made devices work very well in comparison to others we have used and were very easy to use and provided more functions than simply a device to hear the guides narrative. While on this cruise the Danube was closed for about three days due to an incident that happened in the Gabcikovo Canal near Bratislava and caused all boat traffic to have to stop and tie up in the river. We were kept very well informed by our cruise Director Sylvia and Scenic made plans to deliver as many of the excursions as possible. Although we had to endure some long bus rides from where the ship was tied up to our planned excursion I strongly believe Scenic and Cruise Director Sylvia did everything within their power to deliver a first class experience during this delay on the river. They even went as far as to provide one nights hotel rooms in a 5 star hotel in Salzburg for those of us who chose to take that excursion. While the rooms on Jasper were fairly small they were very well appointed and the bathroom were very nice with a large shower by cruise ship standards. The public spaces were very comfortable and the service by the waiters and bartenders was excellent. The daily selection of primarily regional wines were excellent and if by chance you didn’t like one of them there were always several alternatives. While the menu for dinner was a little limited the food was very well prepared and beautifully presented. As I previously mentioned Sylvia, our cruise director, was one of the best we have ever had. Everything that happened was very well explained and everything was run exactly on time. The passengers were also very good about getting back to the busses after shore excursions on time so that fellow passengers didn't have to wait for a late person. Scenic’s enrichment experiences were fantastic and all of them were very good but the one we liked the most was the Sound of Music event held in the Alps overlooking Salzburg. The food, music and entertainment were excellent and it was a pure joy to be there. Scenic advertises as an all inclusive cruise and they really deliver on that. Once we got to the airport in Budapest we never spent a cent except for some small touristy things we bought to bring home. They even had a representative at the airport in Amsterdam to guide to to the proper check in area. All in we will probably go on another Scenic cruise in Europe and whole recommend it highly to our friends and relatives as we believe is an excellent value for the money! Read Less

This was our second river cruise with scenic and we cannot recommend Scenic enough....from the very start of the process - booking through to arriving home - the whole experience was absolutely fantastic. We sailed from Nuremberg up the river Main and Rhine finishing at Amsterdam. The highlight of the trip was the wonderful journey through the Rhine Gorge with the sun shining sipping a cocktail - just perfect. Another enjoyable time was spent at the Oftoberfest - 3 course lunch and plenty of free beer and wine. Also a great evening was had at Marksburg Castle enjoying a medieval banquet with authentic entertainment. Scenic's organisation was superb - no detail was fight ten. The Scenic Crystal was exceptional, clean and contemporary. It's food was excellent, top notch inclusive drinks included, plus all the magnificent trips and events were included too. Cruise was faultless with staff being exceptional. We had a fantastic Cruise Director who ensured the trip went without any hassles. He was very friendly and went out of his way to meet people's needs. The cruise stopped at some ports for a couple of days to enable us to take tours to some areas further away. We went to the Somme area, for example, and also the D-Day landing sites. It meant some longish bus trips bit you got to see the countryside. Guides on all of our excursions whether they were the longer trips of just town/city visits were very good. Our guide to the Somme was exceptional and he helped bring the whole story to life. We dodn't do a lot of sailing during daylight hours but just enough to see some of the lovely houses on France along the Seine. Staff, as mentioned, were brilliant. Very friendly and they didn't know the meaning of the word 'no'. Top, top class. Food was also brilliant with lots of choice. Very difficult to fault. We went from Amsterdam to Budapest, which took us through some lovely countryside and fascinating, historic towns and villages. One of the great features of the cruise was that it was 'all inclusive' including all the tours drinks etc. The only additional cost was for laundry. The shore excursions were generally very good and there was often a choice of what to do, plus a reasonable amount of free time. the local guides were generally very knowledgeable. We would certainly travel with Scenic again, based on our experience. Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable cruise. Highly recommended! Read Less

This was the year of the great French roast, Paris at 35ºC and similar to that all the cruise long. The payback was clear blue skies, no rain and great photos. The ship was 100% full, hence the service levels in the public areas were stretched. This cruise is a mixture of great French wines and cheeses (approx 450 different cheeses to be tasted), as far as scenery goes the highlights are the cities. The visit to an old hospital and nearby wine tasting at Marche aux Vin was very interesting, as was our first tasting of French nougat which is based on egg white and honey, as was the truffle farm (with charming hosts & dog). The Sundowners excursion (a walk to a nearby fortress tower) for wine/beer/nibbles with live musicians in a cool afternoon breeze was very hard to take. The itinerary was exactly as published. Compliments have to be given to all the bus drivers - they were very professional, safe drivers who helped some of our fellow passengers with their walkers. Driving through the French countryside was most enjoyable. Read Less

On the negative side, not enough staff to offer a 5 star cruise, food tried to present as ostentatious but failed, wines local and uninspiring. Enhanced experiences very nice, but other trips disappointing. Onboard entertainment less than one would expect for the price and claimed luxury standards. Cruise Director comes in for critism as a poor communicator, inefficient and with a sense of humour that could be interpreted as irritating by many. After considering many, if not all, river cruise lines we decided on Scenic. What a great choice we made!! One of our travel partners had concerns about Scenic rep meeting us in Budapest, was met as soon as we entered main area of Budapest airport! Room at Marriott was great, communication of what, when, and how was fantastic as we checked in 2 days prior to sailing. Amber is as clean as can be. Cabin 226 was a balcony and we used the balcony for 8 sunny days of cruising but noticed many other cruise lines without any similar type of cabin. Plenty of storage under the bed and closet. Cabin is supplied with communication device for tour guide, umbrella, and walking sticks for tours. All inclusive meant all inclusive...ask the server or bartender for a larger pour and they will take care of you throughout the cruise. Minibar was refilled daily. Food was fantastic if you ate the chef's suggestion and there are other choices which are just as good if you pick a different meal. Breakfast had all the regular fare, sandwiches are available if you need a snack. Our tour director Richard was readily available for any need and did a superb job of arranging transportation at the last minute due to a canal door which would not function which necessitated disembarking in Regensberg instead of Nuremberg. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and the bus (coach) drivers were a hoot. Hats off to Thomas!! Cannot say enough about Scenic. Take the bike tour!! it is so worth the trip and the bikes are pretty easy to figure out. You WILL peddle but the electric assist makes it pretty easy. Having already enjoyed the Scenic Jewels of Europe Cruise, we were more than happy to do another Scenic Cruise and chose the South of France with equally as enjoyable results. The entire crew of the Scenic Sapphire were very pleasant, approachable, eager to please and to share their experiences aboard, and indeed Sonja, the Tour Director was absolutely tops - her sense of humour, her organisation, her personality won us all over in no time. The social life on board was excellent, albeit we had far too many late nights enjoying it all, and it was often hard to rise early to go on the tours.......the tour selections catered for all tastes and interests and there was not one that we did not enjoy. We were given a magnificent overview of life in southern France, both nowadays and of the medieval times. On board welcomes and farewells were well orchestrated and an enjoyable experience, rather than hassles of embarking and disembarking, everything was taken care of for you. The cabins, even if a little small as would be expected on a river ship, were well designed and appointed with more than ample space for storage and in the ensuite. The food was of gourmet standard and once again all tastes were catered for - and there would be not one person who would go hungry or short of choices. To our taste, the French wines were not quite as good as the German ones on the Rhine Cruise, but that did not stop us enjoying most of them. All staff service was of a very high standard and enjoyable. We would not hesitate to do this trip again, but we know there are several other Scenic tours that we have yet to experience and enjoy. Our appreciation and thanks to Scenic for a memorable river cruise in the South of France - we loved it. Read Less

Romantic Rhine and Moselle Monday 15th Joined the cruise in Basel, Scenic provide phone numbers and email addresses of your ship which in our case was the Scenic Pearl launched in 2011 (no swimming pool yet) so the day before you can send them an email and ask where they are berthed. The taxi ride from the central station in Basel to their berthing point cost just under 36 Swiss Francs. You have barely time to get out of the taxi before the Scenic crew pounce on your luggage and whisk it away to your cabin. No hassle once on board they sit you down in the lounge give you a cool drink and a refreshing towel and after a while ask for your passports which you retrieve the following day. Then you get your room entry cards and are shown to your cabin. At 19:15 you get the welcome and safety briefing and are introduced to the Captain, Hotel Manager and Cruise Director. The cruise director this time was a young lady from Romania by the name of Andreea. I don’t know where Scenic get their cruise directors from but I suspect they have a secret factory where they cast the moulds and break it after each one. As with the previous three Scenic cruise directors, always available, helpful and popping up even on the excursions to give you some helpful information. Once again full marks to a fantastic cruise director. The first night is a buffet dinner with the usual free flow wine. 22:00 All aboard and ship departs for Breisach Germany. Breakfast started at 06:30 and there was even a late riser breakfast up until 10:00. for those not going off the ship on excursions (nobody gets forced to go anywhere). The usual wide and varied choice, a great egg station manned by a young Indonesian who managed to remain cheerful throughout the voyage despite having to get up early every morning and do perfect eggs and omelettes for everyone. In addition there was a menu on the table where additional items could be requested such as Eggs Benedict. The usual buffet lunch choice in the Crystal dining room consisted of three main courses one of which was always vegetarian but often I skipped the main course as the buffet had such a wide and varied selection. For the next two weeks you can forget your diet and the weighing scales, you are going to put on weight. A light lunch option is also available in the River Café but you can forget about that if you think it’s going to control your weight as it’s far too near the pastry and snacks counter. Tuesday 16th Scenic Free Choices included the Black Forest and Colmar also a bike tour Breisach to Colmar. We opted for the pretty village of Colmar one of those small attractive French towns with Petra as our guide. 14:00 All aboard and we sail to Kehl 15:00 Mandatory safety drill. 16:30 Daily port talk with Andreea (earlier today) which usually takes place on a daily basis just before you go into dinner around 19:00 and gives you an explanation of the entertainment on board and the upcoming daily excursions. 18:45 Captain’s Welcome Cocktail Reception followed by the Captain’s Welcome Gala dinner Wednesday 17th Scenic Free Choices: included Mittlelbergheim in the Alsace Wine Region, Strasbourg and shopping with the chef. If you have never been to Strasbourg then that is a must, so picturesque but since we did that last year we opted for the visit to the Alsace Wine region where we had a great introduction to Alsace wine from Pierre Albert of Seltz albert-seltz.com/ who has his own winery and was not only very knowledgeable but also very entertaining, well worth a visit if you are a wine lover. 16:30 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Gambsheim arriving 19:00 19:45 Private concert at Rastatt Palce. Reception drinks, Tour of palace followed by a very enjoyable concert. 23:45 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Mannheim arrives next morning. Thursday 18th Scenic Free choices: Heidelberg & Castle Tour, Sweet Tastes of Heidelberg Tour and Hockenheim Formula 1 Tour. Many times you will have difficulty deciding which of these tours to go on as you can only choose one. We choose the Heidelberg and Castle Tour even though we had done it previously and we got the same entertaining guide Klauss who looks a bit like Albert Einstein. Heidelberg is another of those picturesque places which is a must, your camera will be in overdrive so many fantastic views. 14:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Rudesheim arriving 19:30. 19:30 Barbeque dinner on the sundeck, not something I look forward to, I prefer the more relaxed dining in the Crystal dining room but I gather its popular with the Australians customers. However plenty to eat and drink and as usual very tasty. Friday 19th Scenic Free choices on the Guided Tour of Siegfried’s Musikkabinett and a cable car ride across the vineyards to up to the Germania monument. Some give this a miss as they are afraid of heights and so am I but this is no great deal the cable cars are not that far above ground level and if you miss this you will miss some of the most spectacular views on this tour. I have been there three times and never tire of seeing these views. Rudesheim is another charming little town which you will love, loads of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and the ship within easy within easy walking distance although Scenic does have a mini train transfer both ways 14:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Koblenz through the Rhine Gorge. Book your place early on the sun deck for this journey though some of the most stunning scenery on this trip as the Scenic staff makes sure you enjoy it along with your favourite drinks. 18:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Koblenz this is just a brief stop before you enter the Moselle River so you have just enough time after dinner to walk around before the ships departs for Cochem at 23:00 but on your return from the Moselle there is a longer stop and tour of Koblenz. Saturday 20th 07:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Cochem. Scenic Free choices on the 20th Guided walking tour of Cochem and visit to the Reichsburg Castle. There will be mini buses to take you up to the castle where you get another informative and entertaining tour of the castle conducted by the curator who was a Dutchman. Cochem is another of those places you will want to return to, whichever way you turn all you can say is wow like so many other places on this cruise. Plenty of free time in Cochem as The Pearl sails for Bernkastel at 09:00 the following day. Sunday 21st Time to relax today with the Scenic Pearl sailing the beautiful Moselle Valley. This was the part I enjoyed the most I just wish we did not have to sail so much during the night but to cover the distance and the 48 locks apparently that is a must. 15:30 Scenic Pearl makes a technical stop to allow all bike riders to disembark and pedal the 25km from Traben Trabach to Bernkastel while us less active ones enjoyed the views from the sun deck with a nice glass of wine as we covered the same distance. 18:30 Scenic Pearl Arrives in Bernkastel. Monday 22nd Scenic Free choices, Luxembourg City tour, Bernkastel Walking Tour and Trier City Tour, I wish I could have done all three but ended up in Luxemburg where we had an interesting tour of the old city and a bus drive through their financial centre where they seem to have banks as far as the eye can see, thankfully outside the old part of the city which has been preserved. 21:00 All aboard as we sail back along the Moselle River to our next stop at Koblenz. I personally could have spent the whole two weeks just sailing along the Moselle and it’s a shame that we spent so little time there and did a lot of the sailing at night. I hope one day Scenic just has a Moselle river cruise I gather the ship can travel as far as France along the Moselle but the guide in Koblenz said that after Luxemburg it gets a bit industrial and is not very scenic. Monday 23rd 12:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Koblenz Walking Tour of Koblenz second time for us and we choose the same guide Elmar who was just as entertaining and interesting as last time. Then it was the cable car ride to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress probably not something for those who don’t like heights which I don’t but having done it once before it was worth it, not just to see this magnificent fortress but also for the view over Koblenz and the confluence of the Moselle River as it flows into the Rhine. Here we also had the Scenic Sundowners drinks and snacks. I have to say here that this time the catering was not as good as last years and at one stage they even suggested we pay for a second drink until the ever present cruise director Andreea stepped in. 22:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails for Duisburg. Wednesday 24th 08:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Duisburg. Scenic Free Choices included a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mines Site tour, a former coal mine which has now been turned into a museum and is an UNESCO World Heritage site. Most people choose a walking tour of the charming village of Xanten followed by a Duisburg Brewery visit I guess that says a lot about all of us that we were more interested in the brewery than the industrial past of the Rhur area of Germany. 13:00 Scenic Pearl sails for Maastricht (Netherlands) Thursday 25th 10:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Maastricht. Maastricht walking tour another picturesque small town this time in the Netherlands and of course Scenic provide another informative and entertaining guide for the walk. 22:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Nijmegen. Friday 26th 13:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Nijmegen Scenic Free Choices included a Guided biking Tour of Nijmegen. A Guided Walking tour of Nijmegen or a visit to the Arnhem Airborne Museum. We opted for the walking tour, I didn’t think that Nijmegen was as interesting or as picturesque as Maastricht. 19:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Veere. Saturday 27th 12:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Veere. 13:00 Scenic Free Choices included a Delta works visit a Guided biking Tour of Veere a Guided walking Tour of Veere. We choose the Delta works which is the Dutch flood defences on the North Sea another must see, an engineering marvel. This was followed later that evening by a choice of dining out at one of three restaurants. Our choice was the Westkaap built on a dyke overlooking the North Sea. The food was average but the restaurant given that it was already a hot day was like a sauna. 21:30 All aboard Scenic Pearl departs for Antwerp. Sunday 28th 09:00 Scenic Pearl departs arrives in Antwerp. 09:00 Scenic Free Choices included Bruges Excursion or a Guided walking tour of Antwerp. Bruges is the Dutch equivalent of Heidelberg or Strasbourg your camera will have a busy time in Bruges. Your free time is spent visiting the chocolate shops recommended by your tour guide who steers you away from the mass produced stuff to the genuine Belgium chocolate. Don’t miss a visit to Bruges. 16:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl departs for Amsterdam. 18:45 Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Reception. 19:00 Captain’s Farewell Gala dinner Monday 29th When you wake up the Scenic Pearl will already be docked in Amsterdam, disembarkation. Please note the arrival times are approximate but it seemed to be the case we were always ahead of time arriving. Once again a superb crew, the hotel manager Miguel remarked at the farewell dinner it consisted of over 20 nationalities who all managed to work together with no problems. Nothing was too much trouble and while you were getting this service you were usually sailing along often trying to eat the next meal or enjoying drinks, snacks etc and the most wonderful sights slipping past the windows. Portobello restaurant is of course wonderful not only for the food and wine but for the people you sit alongside and meet a wonderful experience every time. A similar experience with Table La Rive although more for the variety of wine with that particular dinner. I haven’t said that much about the evening’s entertainment as usually after dinner all I wanted to do was retire to my cabin and relax. However each evening and sometimes during the day there was something going on in the River Café with an entertainment group or a demonstration or quiz and of course late night snacks and free flow drinks. Each day chocolates and small snacks are left in your cabin often untouched along with the mini bar, I think at most we used less than a handful of bottles having had sufficient to drink during with the meals or even the occasional afternoon drink in the river café. However I do miss the bar of chocolate which they used to have in the fridge but perhaps it’s just as well they took it away and provided something lighter with not so much chocolate. The cabin slippers you are allowed to take with you but this year they have replaced the white slippers with black ones and for some reason these do nothing but leave a trail of black fluff so I hope they go back to the white slippers. Also the soap seemed to be in short supply we were given one small bar for the whole cruise and also had to request extra shower gel. However the bathroom which for a junior suite also includes a bath is well equipped with an excellent shower, hairdryer and toiletries. The cabin gets cleaned and made up twice a day and with an allowance of 4 garments a day for ironing and a kg of free laundry per cruise (this for the junior suite). When I left anything for ironing it was usually back by 5 p.m. the same day. My favourite meals: the buffet breakfast and lunch where the choice was wide and varied along with a wonderful young man who did the best omelettes and eggs you could wish for. For me the highlight of the tour was the Moselle if only that could be a lot longer I think that journey along with the Rhine Gorge must be the most wonderful in all of Europe. We took our first river cruise in 2014 Amsterdam to Budapest with Scenic who were more an accidental choice given that the previous couple of river cruise companies I tried were full. This cruise was our fourth with Scenic and before even setting foot on board for this one I had already booked my Douro river cruise with Scenic for 2017 and I am currently working on plans for Bordeaux in 2018 but cannot book that until next March. We have done plenty of ocean cruises - this was our 1st river cruise. Wow! We were surprised and impressed. Lovely thoughtful cabin, huge walk in shower and we loved the greenhouse-style balcony that expands room space and can be enjoyed in poor or nice weather (windows drop down). The gym and beauty salon were smal but enough. Food was simply terrific and consistently so: the evening specialty dining space (all passengers had one reservation) was a fun and elegant Italian style meal. There were so many extras that the truly all inclusive Scenic format facilitates. Crew went beyond expectations all the time for passengers and Cruise Director Richard Grey was exceptional at his job. The fully included excursions were nicely orchestrated with the highlight being the fine evening orchestra performance with ballet and opera staged just for us in a gorgeous Vienna venue. Well done Scenic! We will be back for more. Read Less

Our retirement holiday and first river cruise. This was recommended by friends and travel agents as a good first choice. We saw all the highlights we expected and more and had a great time. The ship's staff and facilities were fabulous. We enjoyed the fact that everything was taken care of from pre boarding to disembarkation, including all meals, drinks, excursions. The scenery was spectacular throughout the journey. We enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers and the ships cruise coordinator, chefs and other staff looked after everyone very well. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always smiling and welcoming. Only negatives were that we couldn't check into our hotel room on arrival at Budapest after about 36 hours travelling. Also, we and many others suffered from respiratory ailments that went through the ship. However, that's something that can't be prevented by the tour operators, but should be prepared for by travellers. Read Less

it was recommended by our travel agent. It was certainly an excellent experience. staff was excellent and very friendly. Embarkation details was not very details. We were told to have coach transfer to the spaceship at 3.30 pm at the Double Tree by Hilton. However, the exact location was not mentioned in the document sent to us. We accidentally got off the lift at the wrong floor on the way out of the hotel after breakfast. The departure was actually 3.00 pm. The cabin was small but satisfactory for a cruise ship. However, for the extra money we pay for the Junior suite, there is not a lot more space in the room. The balcony was just wide enough for a chair. However, It was exceptional experience from then on. Evening Entertainment, daily free choice were very high standard and certainly above expectation.Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much of trouble except that they prefer you to make cups of tea except at meal time. Two possible consideration for the company to consider;- 1) If wine and alcohol are not part of the all-inclusive price, it will cater for the non-drinker and keep the cost of the cruise down. 2) Having the same breakfast for 14 days is a bit much. Food sometimes can be a bit salty and other times, a bot bland. Overall, very enjoyable experience. Read Less

My husband and I chose Scenic because it was an all inclusive river cruise. We flew into Zurich Switzerland and enjoyed a few days of sightseeing. We were picked up at our hotel by a driver from Scenic to meet our ship in Basel. We were greeted and welcomed before we got on the ship and our luggage was taken to our suite by the cabin attendants. A glass of champagne in hand and we started to explore our new home for 7 nights. Our suite had a balcony, so we would have coffee brought to our suite in the morning by the butler and marvelled at the view of the Rhine River. We were invited to dine at Table La Rive and Portobello, which is a great way to meet new friends. When we were on shore excursions, the guides were locals, so they knew the area and we did not have to tip anyone, again, all inclusive. After the shore excursions, my husband and I would stop for a drink in the lounge and the server remembered what we liked to drink and would bring it to us, with a big smile and asked about our afternoon. We also had a bath tub in our bathroom as well as a glass shower. Laundry service was also at no charge, all included. Disembarkation was just as smooth as ever, because we stayed a few extra days in Amsterdam, we were one of the last ones to leave the ship, and we were not rushed to get off the ship. First class river cruise, first class staff, and very organized. I would highly recommend Scenic. Read Less

This was my first cruise ever. I traveled with my sister-in-law and we had a wonderful experience with Scenic. We took the Rhine River cruise on the Scenic Pearl and the whole experience was wonderful! The whole crew were so friendly and attentive to our every need. Our butler Haris was just so wonderful and when we needed his services he was right there within 2 minutes. All of our excursions were great and they had a separate guide for our "gentle walkers" group. So those who were not able to walk as fast did not have to miss out. The room was great and loved the sun room balcony. The meals were all delicious and the food choices were plentiful. I cannot say enough about how friendly and attentive the whole crew was. I loved the entertainment and the farewell show that the crew put on for us was hilarious ! Will definitely choose Scenic again when I get the chance. Read Less
