We were a little concerned we might find a river cruise a little 'small' compared to ocean cruising but we should not have been concerned. It was a simply amazing experience - first class scenery, experiences, staff, food and company. The excursions were wonderful - the Golden City of Salamanca, a wonderful concert in a church in Porto, the most amazing scenery. There was the chance to do more strenuous excursions if you wanted to. The staff and the food were the best we have ever experienced on board any ship and all staff from the Captain down were very interactive and funny and nothing was ever too much for any of them. Of course the cabins are smaller - otherwise we would not fit in the five locks up the Douro river! However, they were luxurious and the beds very comfortable. The highlight of the trip for me was the photography. This was a cruise in partnership with National Geographic and not only did we have an expert lecturer Tim Weed, but also a photographer Gianluca Colla. He was patient, very funny, interactive and very tolerant of stupid questions. The staff would join in - whether it was the head chef dancing at the lunchtime barbecue or the bar staff in the evening. The butlers did everything and were completely down to earth. Read Less

The experience was first class.when there was an issue the team made it disappear as best the could, like low water level. The service was second to none from the time we first met the team until the end. Food was fantastic and wine options great. The crew people made the difference and we have already booked our second cruise. The rooms were very good and well thought out as for the best usage of the space. The ship facilities were all there, pool, spa, gym, etc. Nightly entertainment was great with special presentations on some occasions. All the excursion options were good and well planned out. Again, the service of sf the boat was second to none and the cruise director JJ was excellent. The excursions ere great and options very well presented each and every day. The dining options ere good and the food falntastic. Recommend this to anyone. Read Less

Essentially took this tour with another couple who where wanting to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary. Despite the fact our airplane arrived well over an hour late in Prague the very approachable Scenic representative was their to greet us and take us to the local hotel. Likewise for the balance of the trip all the services from presentations by the Cruise Director, departure for excursions to opening of the restaurants were completely on time and very timely. The Chef on our cruise provided an excellent array of culinary delights both on the buffet and a la carte services. The cut on everything from slices meats to vegetables and dessert items was flawless. I inquired with the Chef who frequently made table checks about the "secrets" about a "Clear Tomato" that was being served for lunch. Chef Broccoli was most generous and provided a recipe for this exceptional soup. The effort put in by the entire staff of our trip was 110%. They worked well as a team and professional ignored the occasional unthinking and too casual guest. My only concern would be that the dining room was a slight bit noisy and congested and that for "older" folks (70 +) might find it tiring after more than a week. Likewise the rooms will be a tad small for those on the "heavier or tall" side. The Tailormade Scenic software very innovative and highly effective. I only recently have been using a smart phone but found it enhanced the trip. The system was occasionally nonfunctional when listening to the tour guides in large congested areas. However the information and pictures while sailing down the picturesque Danube River very complementary. Did find the survey questionare at the end of the tour rather long and time consuming. I thought it might take 20 minutes to complete but it had so many questions that I ran out of time and had to omit the last quarter of the survey. Cabin balcony excellent. Really liked the size, the glass, even the comfortable chairs. Read Less

Scenic was recommended to us by friends. Certainly glad we went with Scenic. Couldn’t be more pleased with the trip.Chose this cruise because of the date and the river it sailed on. Like the idea that it was all inclusive. We were treated by all crew members with excellent service. It was our first river cruise. Would definitely recommend Scenic. Good choices for the daily excursions off the ship. Tour guides that Scenic used were knowledgeable and personal. Used the Taylor Made app so could hear the guide as he explained the area to us. Liked the number of passengers aboard. Made it more personal. Would certainly use Scenic in any future travel plans. They have trips that appeal to us. The nightly entertainment was very good. Having to check off and on the ship for daily trips made us feel safe knowing that the crew were aware of where we were. Our room was comfortable. Nothing but praise for the entire experience. The list of dates given above did not match our trip. We were on Rhine HIghlights beginning July 10 in Amsterdam. Howerer, the boat was lovely with great bathrooms. the staff, mostly Serbian and Romanian, were friendly and competent. The Cruise Director, Andreea was a real trooper handling everything that came up with grace and excellence. The stops were very nice, and the guides were very good, except one. The complementary drinks and mini bar and excursions were a definite plus. Andreea spent a little time each afternoon explaining how it would all work the next day. The only drawback for us was the dinners. The choices were just not appealing to us. They did have chicken, steak, and salmon for alternatives, though. Breakfast was fine with a large buffet around the center serving area. One could also order special things like pancakes and french toast from a menu. Lunch was good, but difficult to maneuver the center buffet. There was no beginning or end, so one had to just jump in front of someone else. Read Less

Loved special concert in Vienna they scheduled for us as well as a piano concert at school for deaf in Budapest. Cabin Steward was Dejuan . He was helpful in making suggestions and so very professional and cordial. Also all wait staff in dining rooms were great, Alexander, Stan, “Daniel Craig”, Andy, Wilber, Rada, JJ, etc. loved them all. Food was good and especially liked that evening meal, while elegant, was just right amount, not too much. Only recommendation would be that on shore excursions it would have been better if passengers were given hand held devices as a lot of our iPhones lost power by the end. Wish we could have had more time at all of the stops, especially Budapest which was a real hidden Gem. Also adding names of wines which we had on board to an app would be helpful updating n our return Read Less

Recommended by friends this cruise did not disappoint. Great activities, who could not be impressed by Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple.Scenic pay particular attention to the finer detail, arranging trips not experienced by other cruises in particular the themed gala dinner at an Angkor temple where we were entertained by Apsara dancers, and Wat Hanchey where we had the opportunity to talk to a novice monk. Their enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides ensure you are informed in terms of the history but also relate personal and family experiences that really give everything a context. The ships facilities are superb, cabins offering plenty of space, light and storage, food that challenges the senses, with wine/beer constantly on tap. The onboard staff are the icing on the cake they are attentive, and display genuine enjoyment at ensuring you are having a good time. All of this is packaged with a social consciousness that you do not often experience. It was great to feel that some of the money from this cruise was going directly to local communities. This was not gifted but earned which ensured that there was respect between all parties. Not cheap but bearing in mind everything is included, I would highly recommended it Read Less

We have been on several cruises both river and sea since 1980. This was the very best so far for many many reasons. The itinerary was spectacular. Sailing the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia. If you are thinking of doing this. DO IT NOW. 5 years from now you will not be able to experience the personal level of meeting local people doing what they do from working on the river, selling in markets or making silver or silk. The Scenic crew was one of the best. You could not want for anyone anytime. The ship was excellent and the staterooms were two times as big as any I have ever seen. We bought the regular fare not the premium but I cannot imagine what else you would need. The food was very different but if you wanted standard fare, it was always available. I could write 10,000 words describing each day but I won’t. JUST DO IT! Read Less

My husband retired in June and we decided to celebrate by going on this cruise. We had contemplated planning and organizing an itinerary on our own (which is what we do most of the time) but decided to leave it to Scenic! We had made our own arrangements, arriving several days earlier to enjoy Paris. We checked into the hotel provided with our cruise, Le Scribe (Sofitel) which is always good. Others went to the Westin and I understand that it was equally very good. Thereafter we took a TGV to Chalon sure Soane where we boarded our Ship. Embarkation was a breeze and our luggage was already in the room. In the past, when we traveled with my in-laws, all the women received a rose but no longer- a minute change which I did not miss but noted! The Sapphire ship is the oldest of the Scenic fleet but it had been refurbished so it appeared to the the same as two others we had been on. Our cabin (junior suite) was comfortable and had a shower tub combo. Our butlers, Vlad and Dominik were solicitous, discrete, efficient and went out of their way to ensure we were well taken care of, which we were. The lady that cleaned our room was equally efficient, warm and caring. The fitness area had three modern machines (Elliptical, treadmill and bicycle and hand weights/balls and the like) which I did use three times. The first time the room was very warm but this was quickly remedied after I reported it to the cruise director . "Dragun", the fitness expert had daily morning exercise/stretching classes which were excellent. The entertainment was good and varied (as per my husband as I did not attend most of them because port excursions were early morning) . If port excursions had had started one hour later as I would have been able to attend the evening entertainment, as in the past, I always did attend them but then we cruised at night (which we did not on this cruise). Unlike most people on board, I am not retired and had to go back to work upon our return so I wanted to be rested! If there is something Scenic could change, is perhaps doing a bit more travel in the evening (and even at night?) so that excursions could start later.... Dining /meals were very good to excellent- However we were disappointed at the meal served at "L'Amour" (a plate of charcuterie as part of appetizer?) as we were with dinner served at the Pope's palace in Avignon-such a beautiful venue with a live ensemble but food (except for dessert) was not good at all. Additionally, we had two bottle of wines for a table of 8 and when someone asked for another bottle we were told "there is no more wine"- Perhaps having a cocktail reception (with Chateauneuf du Pape wines)with an ensemble and include the daily port talk by the cruise director as an alternative? Our cruise director, Eric was outstanding- self -assured, with excellent public speaking skills, knowledgeable, solicitous, warm & with attention to details, he ensured that we (and the staff which appeared to get along well with one another, and be cohesive ) had a good time, while at the same time managing the unexpected. For example, we were to disembark in Tarascon but because of water issues the cruise did not end there- he reviewed with us our alternatives and efficiently arranged transportation to Nice. As cruise director, Eric should probably mentor those wishing to follow in his steps! Of all our cruises, I remember only another cruise director, and not for the same reasons! Our captain was visible, accessible, and friendly. The sommelier "Agostino" (equally approachable and knowledgeable) presented daily offerings, and explained well why they were chosen. The chef prepared regional dishes which were well executed. Buffet breakfast and lunch were varied ,very good, and provided a certain amount of time efficiency. Of note is that we observed one of the chef going out on bicycle to buy gluten free bread for a passenger! Port excursions were varied, with options for the "gentle walkers " to more active ones (cycling, hiking) which we enjoyed, even hiking the vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape! Overall, this was a memorable cruise. I was very sad when the vacation came to an end. Beautiful destination with outstanding service. I would recommend it to anyone. Read Less

The Toronto Globe & Mail sponsored and structured this extraordinary cruise. Having senior writers from the Globe was valuable and value added. We did the Globe cruise from Istanbul back in 2009. The Scenic Globe cruise was equal and surpassed this first cruise experience. The staff of Scenic are outstanding. I was a senior executive with The Walt Disney Company and know something about customer and guest experience. Tours, food, hospitality, onboard infrastructure all excellent. We also knew many of the fellow guests so that was a huge plus. The Rhone and the south of France seen from the cruise ship truly the experience of a lifetime. Congratulations and thanks to the Globe & Mail and Scenic for a truly inspired cruise. Bravo! From Paris to Dijon to Lyon (arrived at night to full light show) to Avignon to Nice and every stop and tour in between, truly brought the culture, history and beauty of Burgundy, Beaujolis, Provence and related Rhone River areas to life. 2000 year old Pont du Gard Roman acqueduct not to be missed. Chateau Neuf du Pape worth the hike. Pope's Palace and dinner in Avignon spectacular. Read Less

It was recommended by our travel agent. We were not sure where to go and she thought this would be a good change. We especially enjoyed the music concert at the Palace Lichenstien. The lunch at the oldest restaurant in Salzburg which dates back to the 1400's was a real treat. We participated in the 35km bike ride along the Danube and that was truly special Ship - very nice and intimate Cabin - small but all that was needed Dining - all our meals were delicious especially the Table de Rive Entertainment - only one night was really good and that was Trivia night Ports and excursions - all were good Tips - if doing the 35km bike ride ensure to bring plenty of water and something to snack on as we got very hungry. We would definiately do another river cruise. Staff was excellent and we were taken care of from start to finish. Not a care in the world !!!! Read Less

I love the Scenic river cruise line. This was my 4th trip with them. I particularly like having everything included such as: all tips even for shore excursions, mini bar, cocktails, coffee & tea anytime, special shore Enrichment events like a concert or Medieval dinner in a castle just for us. You can have an early or late breakfast and there is always something to eat between meals. There is a gentle walk excursion for those that have some mobility issues. This was great for those with walkers, canes etc. I also loved the opportunity to have a laundry bag stuffed full of dirty clothes laundered free of charge once during the trip as it was very hot and we changed clothes a few times a day. A waiter even remembered me and my first name from a cruise I took 2 years ago. Pretty impressive!! The crew on the Jade went out of their way to make our cruise a true hassle free excursion. This was our 50th Anniversary trip (of a lifetime) and our 2nd Scenic River Cruise. I was somewhat disappointed with the young lady who greeted us at the airport... no 'welcome to Scenic'.. no conversation on the bus... but found out she worked for the ground operator not Scenic. The 'official welcome' started right away as soon as we departed the bus at the ship. The greeting was so warm and welcoming.... dispelled any misgivings on the bus. The front desk crew, under the direction of Anna were excellent. Within a day they knew our cabin number and simply handed us the key without asking. Always a welcoming smile and greeting! I cannot speak high enough about the Cruise Director and staff. Their knowledge, their openness, their story telling ability and their care about quality was outstanding. The food, produced under a young but very talented Chef was outstanding. We both enjoyed a massage ..and would recommend it as a perfect way to really get into the vacation mode. The Dining Room staff were amazing. Scenic trained (although not actual Scenic employees) they seemed to love their job. So personal. Greetings with such warm smiles. They bent over backwards to ensure your dining experience was a total pleasure. Our cabin was excellent. A workspace with ample plugs (bring adaptors) for my computer etc. The bed was too comfortable (didn't want to get up some mornings).... the bathrooms equipped with excellent bath and hand towels, good shampoo and conditioner and a hook for my shaving kit. I should add, a GREAT shower! The blackout curtains were so appreciated, since the sun doesn't really set until about 2am and stays dark for all of 90 minutes. The beauty of Scenic, there are not really any decisions to make. ALL of the tours are included. All of the tips are included. The wine etc at meals (this is the only difference we experienced from our previous Scenic cruise where the bar seemed to be free 24/7). My personal gripe was that my wife could drink all the wine she wanted at dinner but I had to pay for my non-alcoholic beer). A small gripe but we were warned that th Russia Cruise was a little different from the regular Scenic offerings. I can't say enough about the included tours.... everything from the Moscow Circus to a private reception with a 4-piece orchestra and amazing Champagne / vodka buffet of canapés and caviar. We adjourned to a theatre that sat our 90 fellow Scenic travellers very comfortably... a FULL orchestra and a 60 minute presentation of various famous ballets. An evening never to be forgotten. When asked about our impression of Russia... all we can say is how open and honest the people are about the changes that they are experiencing under the Federation. All preconceptions about Russia were dis-spelled. An awesome trip that I cannot recommend highly enough. Read Less

We chose Scenic in part, from a recommendation by our Travel Agent (M. Gaw of Vision Travel) and a local presentation by the company. We wanted a slightly ‘up-scale’ cruise. We liked the idea of a European river cruise to minimize our time in coaches and not having to change hotels every night or two with all that implies. The number of people on the ship was to our liking. It is a group tour done “better”. See fewer countries but at a better pace. This particular cruise fit into our dates available, length of cruise (8 days) with the 3-day Prague extension but also, the trip went to an area we have wanted to explore for some time (Austria/Czech). The flexibility of the included excursions and the availability of E-bikes were an added feature we very much liked. In addition, the help from our travel agent to make sure all the deatils were included and explained along with other factors (early arrival, organization of air travel, etc.), made our confirmation of this choice easy. The use of Marriott hotels at both locations (Budapest and Prague) were great. The whole trip, from the early arrival to departure went extremely smoothly. We were extremely happy with the Scenic Jasper ship but more importantly, in our opinion, the crew were fabulous from the cruise director through the wait staff, were the best. Our cabin was perfect for us. The quality of the food but especially the bar were ‘top-notch’ with real champagne, great domestic and imported wines and a good selection of single malt. Cabin and cruise service(s) were teriffic even if we ‘under-used’ these amenities. We met some very nice and interesting people from around the world and were happy to be on board with other French and English Canadians, people from Great Britian and the USA. The excursion choices were a treat and the ‘guides’ friendly and knowledgeable. Their local knowledge reflected pride in their contries/cities which we very much liked. For the most part, they went out of their way on each excurison to ensure we had a pleasant day. The highlight for us was the Ebike trip but it was over too soon and could use a bit of ‘tweaking’ for a better day. True, we were perhaps too many people in one group (38). It may have been better in two (or more) groups if sufficient guides were available but all in all, we really enjoyed the Ebike tour. One negative for us was the slight rush in between and during the excurisons but we understand that they wanted to cover as much as possible where we would rather see less but spend more time. While we did not travel with children (and none were on board), we would suggest that theis mode of travel would suit kids to broaden their horizons on other cultures. The Prague extension was a treat. While a rough entry to our downtown hotel due to traffic (again the Marriott), once we settled, in it was perfectly situated to explore the old town and all that it has to offer. We would definitely recommend the Prague extension. Except for the (sometimes) ‘sea of humanity’, it was still a fantastic place to visit. As you can expect, we highly recommend this trip and this company and really found little to no fault. We would definitely take another Scenic crusie to explore other areas of Europe but maybe other parts of the world. Read Less

The thing that enticed us to go on this cruise was to experience a cruise for the first time and see the tulips at the Keukenhof. The daily excursions were very enjoyable and educational. The Dutch water management with the shutoff dyke and delta works, reclaiming so much land is amazing. The daily routine with full breakfast, lunch and dinner service was fantastic. If you are not fond of buffets you could order from the daily menu. The variety of food was very good, from vegetarian or vegan to regular diet. Desserts were always a big hit with different flavours of ice cream every day. Coffee and tea selections were also very broad, from normal tea and coffee to decaf or regular espresso crafted choices. Every afternoon there was flexible time to spend time in the lounge or sun deck to enjoy a cocktail. Daily briefings for the next day were presented by the beautiful and knowledgeable cruise director Andrea. The entire staff was professional and attentive. Read Less

This was a 'special' Mary Berry Telegraph cruise which set off on 22 November 2017, not on the 17 November. We chose this cruise on the recommendation of our friends who are platinum Scenic travellers; they said that previously the food was always amazing and the excursions brilliant. The ship is lovely, as are the cabins; they are spacious and light and the cabin balconies are just wonderful. The staff are also superb, with one or two exceptions. However, some things were disappointing: Logistics: Approximately 100 of us arrived at the same time in Budapest airport. We were greeted by two reps and herded together in the arrivals area until everyone had been rounded up. We were then shown to our coaches for the transfer to the ship. There was no-one on the coaches to explain what was happening or to provide assistance. We suggest that people are shown to the bus in smaller groups so that they can sit in comfort whilst others arrive. It would also have been nice to have been provided with a bottle of water and a guide to tell us what was happening ie how long the transfer would be etc. Most of the passengers were pensioners and had been up since at least 0400, so a drink would have been welcome. We were offered lunch once we arrived on the ship, the lunch was fine. However, there were long delays waiting for the buffet to be replenished. On the return journey we had to leave suitcases outside our rooms at 0730 despite the fact that we weren't leaving the ship until 1045. That meant getting up very early. Excursions: Budapest City tour was fine. There just wasn't enough time in Budapest. Schonbrunn Palace was stunning. However, there was virtually no free time to look around independently or to peruse the Christmas market. The return coach was twelve minutes late collecting us - that just rubbed salt in the wound. We could easily have had more time at the palace if we had left the ship a little earlier. Spanish Riding School: The visit was in the afternoon which meant that it was impossible to see the horses rehearsing or performing. Cesky Krumlov: A fantastic day out! It snowed and we had a perfect amount of time to visit this amazing Unesco heritage town. Although the lunch was rather grim. Entertainment: Piano recital was wonderful - we hadn't realised that a virtuoso pianist could produce such astounding music. Orchestra/Ballet/Opera evening was perfectly pleasant. However, it would have been wonderful to have visited the real thing rather than these pale imitations. On-board entertainment was fine if you like thigh slapping, lederhosen dancers; jolly accordion players and traditional folk singers. On-board pianist was very good and provided some lovely background and dance music. Food: This was really disappointing. Remember our friends had 'sold' us the holiday on the basis of the fab food. Dinner in La Rive on our one permitted evening was very good. The rest of the food was OK, but nothing special. Mary Berry: was as lovely as you might expect; perfectly charming and very approachable. However, what ever made anyone think that a boat load of pensioners would want her latest book 'Household Tips & Tricks' in which Mary shares those little domestic secrets that she has gleaned over many years. Did it not cross anyone's mind that the passengers had all lived a long time and had probably gleaned most of the same tips and tricks. Mary Berry is a renowned cook. We were expecting a cookery book! And then there were the mince pies made with minced beef instead of mincemeat. How was the poor pastry chef to know that there is an important difference between mincemeat and minced meat. Our friends were embarrassed because we had booked the holiday on their recommendation and it didn't come up to standard - even the Cruise Director said more than once that this was not a typical Scenic cruise. We were sad for our friends because we really wanted the cruise to live up to their expectations too. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a 50th birthday treat for my wife. We could not have chosen better. The ship, the crew and the staff made our holiday such an amazing experience. The presence of the correspondents John Simpson, Martin Bell and Kate Adie added a new dimension to a holiday giving us memories of their Balkans experiences in the 1990's. The food was 5-star with extensive choices at buffet meals and the evening A La Carte menu was always superb. The wines were quality and plentiful as far as dining was concerned. It was nothing less than lavish. If you want to leave your wallet at home, go with Scenic. We were sceptical about their claims prior to going but we really did NOT spend any money at all, either on board or during the excursions. We could not believe that all the cash we took with us went back into the bank when we got home ready for a similar trip next year. The Cruise Director, Sylvia, was excellent. If we had to give advice to other first-timers as we were, then we would point out the size of the Standard Suites. They are quite small but superbly appointed. However it didn't detract from our holiday as we were only in the cabin to sleep. We will however, upgrade next time. The only other grievance would be the terrible meal at the Hilton Hotel in Bucharest. This is not what to expect in a Hilton Hotel. This however was not Scenic's fault but they have to address this as they are ultimately responsible. Well done Scenic. We shall return! Read Less

The list of lecturers first attracted us to this cruise and also the destinations as we had been to Eastern Europe before but not to Bulgaria or Rumania or Serbia and not to the parts of Croatia included in the tour. We had to change ships after four days but that was very well managed although our cabin seemed slightly smaller on Pearl. We would criticise the first evening's arrangements--there seemed insufficient Scenic staff presence at the hotel and the main course at dinner was not good. On board we once or twice found the timings of events rather hectic, ie arriving back from an excursion and having a briefing meeting almost immediately afterwards. I realise this could be due to traffic problems and beyond the staff's control and once the timing of the meeting was altered. The Cruise Director Szylvia was really excellent: although at times facing ( unfair!) criticism from passengers she remained cheerful and calm. She was very helpful when I asked about future Scenic cruises although that was not her particular sphere. We had been on one other river cruise before when the company made a great point of advertising future ones, with discounts, and although I appreciated the fact that Scenic didn't do that I should have liked a little more information, especially about when Kate Adie would next be lecturing for you as she was absolutely outstanding as both a speaker and a fellow guest. John Simpson's lecture was good though I regretted that he was so briefly available on the cruise and Martin Bell was a pleasure to meet and to listen to--I just wished one of his talks wasn't so early in the morning! All the guides we had were very good and had interesting personal experiences of their countries and the meal in a Croatian home was the highlight of the cruise for me. The low water level in the Danube did make some gangways very difficult for less mobile people to go up and down--perhaps cruise information should give a warning about this. NB In the ratings below I'm assuming "Enrichment activities" means the talks and lectures. As I said, that was why we chose your cruise and they lived up to expectations. My rating for food may seem grudging as some meals were excellent but others not--especially the Hungarian goulash! Final point--we very much appreciated the fact that excursions, drinks etc. were all included in the price. Read Less

We enjoyed all the excursions but my most memorable was Belgrade in Serbia, visiting the fort and seeing the amazing views over the River .The other one was a home meal with a local family. One of the family spoke excellent English and we got some real insights into what happened to people during the war.The same could be said of our Serbian guide in Belgrade who came to Serbia as a refugee fom Croatia. Kate got us all very interested in the English women who came to Serbia prior to the first world war to assist the Serbian people in a war. They are forgotten by the British but still remembered and honoured by the Serbian people. It was recommended by a friend. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the lovely sights we visited. Beautiful scenery and fantastic architecture. Cabin was excellent, food good and staff on ship were excellent. We enjoyed some breathtaking scenery and would not have missed it for anything. I am gluten free and every night the Maitre De would come and speak to me about what I could have on the menu which was suitable. Excellent!!!! The down side was that there was just too much going on with little time for relaxing. Most of the excursions started at 8.00 am which meant setting the alarm clock to get us up before 7.00 am so that we could have breakfast and get ready for the day and be on the coach by 8.00 am. We haven't had to set the alarm clock since we retired six years ago! When we got back in the afternoon we often had to rush to get changed in order to get to the daily "talk" and then go to dinner. Everything was done in a rush and by the end of the week, couples were just dropping out of excursions because they were just too tired from rushing about and just wanted to relax a bit. Also the COACH journeys were chaotic. The guides never seemed to know how many people should be on the coach. Everyone got back to the coach on time but we ended up waiting needlessly for imaginary people because the guides didn't know if everyone was back or not!!! The worst time was the day we went home. We had to be out of our cabin by 8.00 am and then were taken to Nuremberg and told to be back on the coach by 12.00 midday. Everyone was back at the pick up point early but the guide had four people on the list who were definitely not on our coach and we waited 20 minutes for them, knowing there was no-one else to come. By the time we left, the next coach party had turned up at their 12.15 slot for a different coach, and they started getting on our coach causing even more chaos. We then had to rush when we arrived at the airport because of the delay. Why didn't the guides COUNT people on to the coach and given sometimes one guide would take us to a venue and another guide would collect us, why didn't the guides communicate with each other regarding numbers??? One day 15 people went on an excursion and Scenic sent TWO FORTY SEATER COACHES to collect just 15 of us?? Even then the numbers were wrong because two people had decided to stay on the boat and there were just 13 of us which the boat knew about?? On one excursion we were on coach No 2 and were told to go back to coach No 2, but when we arrived back at the coach, the guides were telling us to just get on any old coach!!!! How could numbers possibly be checked in this chaotic way. Things like this spoil the holiday and we would have thought that Scenic would be much more organised than this given they have been operating for years. That said it was a good holiday but could have been more relaxing and organised better. Read Less

We chose Scenic because we saw online reviews that listed them as one of the best in river cruising. We have been on Tauck and they were fantastic. The Scenic experience BEFORE the trip was pretty bad. Their web site was bad. The company repeatedly thought we hadn't entered excursion choices even though we had. The information was inaccurate and the final cruise documents we got didn't entirely match what actually happened, just 3 weeks later. We found out from some Australian guests on the trip that they received emails of changes just prior to the trip, but no one from USA got them. But once the trip started, things were much better. The Scenic Spirit ship is beautiful. The rooms were huge with all the modern amenities. The entire staff was happy and helpful and really would do anything you asked. The food was okay, and the one day they made real pho, it was delicious. But overall, we were hoping for better food. Scenic transfers to and from the ship were thorough and someone stayed with us, door to door. Read Less

All inclusive cost including transfers, air fare etc. Sound of Music excursion included which was a highlight of the itinerary. Ship in excellent shape cleaned and painted daily when needed. All staff involved as required in upkeep of vessel. Cabin included window veranda (spacious), beverages filled daily and unwanted items removed. Diet beverage purchased by staff for spouse. Dining varied and excellent, entertainment locally highlighted. Service impeccable including extra staff and butler to do additional laundry initially. No children on ship, lifestyle active as much walking required. Scenic is the epitome of river cruising and if a needed itinerary available, we would go in a minute. Cruise director unmatched in cruising world as outgoing, knowledgeable and very well organized. Each port had daily excursions and service before and after the cruise was well organized by Scenic. All of our needs were anticipated by Scenic both at the company and staff level. It is impossible to try in future to compare Scenic with any of the other cruise lines we have sailed as the bar has been set so high. Read Less

This was a charter cruise with a particular group, and I was a staff member with the group. There were no children aboard this trip. While I didn't explore the departure city before boarding, embarkation and disembarkation were very well organized and went smoothly. The ship staff did a marvelous job adapting the schedule to things beyond their control, such as the river flooding in some areas and the lock workers striking one day. The food was always excellent, and the service was exemplary. Really, I can't say enough about how professional, welcoming, efficient, and friendly the staff were. I enjoyed the excursions - walking or biking tours, and multiple choices per day. The group itself provided most of the on-board entertainment and events. While I was not one of them, others greatly enjoyed the late-night music and dancing! The boat itself was luxurious, and always well maintained. I would definitely go again! Read Less

We were on a special charter by the US Navy Supply Corp Officers. It was our first time on Scenic. I was disappointed in the service. it seemed as if they were short staffed and the dining room service was very slow and sometimes just plain poor. The staff was not well trained in serving, on the wines or on keeping in touch with the tables to make sure you were given what you needed. Many times had to go get coffee from the machines in the lounge on the next deck because the wait staff never asked if we wanted any. The buffets for lunch were very repetitious - there seemed to be very little variety. The dinners were just OK except for the specialty dinner in Portobello restaurant. This was Italian cuisine and it was excellent. There was also an 8 course special dinner for people in suites and it was quite nice but not to my taste because I am particular about certain foods. They had the habit of pushing the wine selection of the ship and not on the wine list that was available. Read Less

The US Navy Supply Corps Association organized this cruise. It was first class all the way. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The ship was beautiful and the crew very attentive and gracious. Our cabin was very nice with comfortable beds and an ample bathroom. The food was very good. A great selection of entrees at every meal, plus places where you could get food, coffee, tea, etc. at any time. The off ship tours were interesting for the most part with knowledgeable guides. The crew accommodated our request for a cook out and did an outstanding job. Great bratwurst! The best part of the cruise was the staff. From the Captain to the Cruise Director to the Hotel Manager to every one of the cabin crew and wait staff. They all tried their best to make the cruise a memorable experience. No request was too small for them to jump on. Our butler Milan was a standout. We would definitely do a river cruise with Scenic again. Read Less
