We were celebrating our honeymoon, the moment we set foot on the ship, we were transported into a world of utter luxury. We were doted upon and treated like royalty. George, the cruise manager, always greeted everyone with a friendly smile and answered all our questions. I am sure he would have also been quick to solve any issues but there were none. He was on top of everything. Everything was done effortlessly, or so it seemed, from my perspective. The staff was friendly, upbeat and Costi our restaurant server made me laugh, a discreet comedian, suggested food and drink, made me a toddy in the evening. He was a true delight. Vlad our attentive and intuitive butler knew or seemed to know what we wanted before we even expressed our thoughts. We was extremely professional and incredibly helpful. The food was stupendous! The chef came around and wanted our feedback. No wonder! The baked goods are to die for. The lamb, wow. The soups yummy. We loved everything about our trip! What a grand adventure. Sylvia the tour organizers took very good care of us. She took great pains to explain and plan the wonderful outings we enjoyed. Our suite was wonderful, ours was the Royal Panorama. It was spacious, kept spotless and generously supplied with anything one could possibly need. Our laundry was taken care of and returned promptly. The salt room felt wonderful after our massage. I could go on, but will stop here before I write a book. I am still suffering from Vlad ( our butler) withdrawal. If you enjoy a phenomenal adventure and want to feel coddled in luxury, then sign up. You will love it! Guaranteed. Read Less

Recommended by friends this cruise did not disappoint. Great activities, who could not be impressed by Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple.Scenic pay particular attention to the finer detail, arranging trips not experienced by other cruises in particular the themed gala dinner at an Angkor temple where we were entertained by Apsara dancers, and Wat Hanchey where we had the opportunity to talk to a novice monk. Their enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides ensure you are informed in terms of the history but also relate personal and family experiences that really give everything a context. The ships facilities are superb, cabins offering plenty of space, light and storage, food that challenges the senses, with wine/beer constantly on tap. The onboard staff are the icing on the cake they are attentive, and display genuine enjoyment at ensuring you are having a good time. All of this is packaged with a social consciousness that you do not often experience. It was great to feel that some of the money from this cruise was going directly to local communities. This was not gifted but earned which ensured that there was respect between all parties. Not cheap but bearing in mind everything is included, I would highly recommended it Read Less

I love the Scenic river cruise line. This was my 4th trip with them. I particularly like having everything included such as: all tips even for shore excursions, mini bar, cocktails, coffee & tea anytime, special shore Enrichment events like a concert or Medieval dinner in a castle just for us. You can have an early or late breakfast and there is always something to eat between meals. There is a gentle walk excursion for those that have some mobility issues. This was great for those with walkers, canes etc. I also loved the opportunity to have a laundry bag stuffed full of dirty clothes laundered free of charge once during the trip as it was very hot and we changed clothes a few times a day. A waiter even remembered me and my first name from a cruise I took 2 years ago. Pretty impressive!! The crew on the Jade went out of their way to make our cruise a true hassle free excursion. In short, "What you pay before you start is all you pay". Read Less

This cruise of the Irrawaddy in Myanmar was mind blowing amazing! First of all the setting of such a beautiful untouched country that few people have seen was very cool. This was my third river cruise and second scenic cruise. But after this experience my husband and I are scenic for life. First of all the people have working for them are first rate! From the captain down to the people who clean your room. Always a smile and impeccable service! Food was out of this world. Room always clean. All tours well thought out. It was a all Aussie crowd except for us, we were the only Americans. Which is fine by me Aussies tend to be more fun than most Americans and brits. This is a fun adventurous tour and it’s a hot county so keep that in mind. But there were some people I meet on this trip on the crew that were real stand outs. First of all we were broken into two groups each with their own tour guide. Both were lovely women. But owners Susan was unbelievable! Every one in the “Susan Group” would talk about how good she was every night over drinks. Smart, witting, gracious so informative! The girl is gorgeous but that not what shines about her it’s her personality. I really hope Scenic knows what true gem they have with her and book her as much as they can! Chentel was the hotel manager very nice and VERY GOOD at her job. This is a woman who gets thinks done. Best hotel manager I have every had and I’ve been around the world about 5 times now, very good! I also want to mention Zin I the bar he served the drinks in the bar. A young man who gets service and was impeccable at all times. We loved him. Such a great trip we can’t wait to cruise with them again! Scenic sets the standard for river cruising. Read Less

My husband and I have nothing but praise for this ship and her crew and Scenic in general. From the moment we boarded our 'spaceship' we were treated like royalty. We had a balcony cabin port side on the Amsterdam to Budapest cruise that was spacious and comfortable, with a bed you melted into at the end of an adventure filled day. The bathroom was very roomy and the water pressure and temperature were wonderful. All tours, drinks, food and entertainment were included so you didn't have to put your hand in your pocket - unless you wanted to buy something to take home. It was great to know that everything was paid for before we left Australia. The food was plentiful, delicious and varied, it changed from region to region - as we did, along with the wines. Wonderful new wines every day. So much food! "It must be time to eat." The staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly and funny - even at midnight when my husband wanted a cheeseburger and a glass of red. The ports of call were wonderful for someone who hasn't been to that part of Europe before. Easy to do, lots of walking on cobly streets but flat. Such history! It was magnificent. There were many shore excursions to choose from or you could just stay on board and do nothing in a quiet corner. Something for everyone. We made some wonderful new friends that we will keep in touch with. The age group was extremely varied from 20 somethings to 80 somethings. NOT full of old people. We were on the first tour of the season and I must admit it was better than going in high summer or later. No leaves on the trees meant you could see a lot more as you cruised the river. Another couple of weeks and all you will see is trees! Less people, no queues or crowds at any of the venues. Bliss. We have already booked our next Scenic trip. If you've been thinking about it - just do it. Read Less

My wife and I travelled with Scenic for a fortnight from mid-September 2016 between Amsterdam and Budapest. We paid for a balcony suite in the middle of the Sapphire deck (deck 2) and found it to be very comfortable and relatively quiet. The bed was excellent and a pillow menu was available if required. From time to time we could hear some noise as we moved through locks, but it caused us no concern and was just part of the experience. There was plenty of storage space, including under the bed where we stored our empty baggage. The crew of the Scenic Amber was outstanding, without exception. Their customer service skills are tremendous and they consistently made us feel welcome and assisted where needed. In particular, my wife and I would like to thank our tour director Andreea, together with Radmila, George, Ion, Elod, Sandy, Jelena and Margi for helping to make this the cruise of a lifetime. If we were ever take another river cruise, the ship and its crew will have to be of a very high standard to come close to our experience with the Scenic Amber. The tour guides and bus drivers were also of a high calibre and we very much enjoyed our tour at Wertheim with Marie-Noelle and her delightful sense of humour. The standard of food was very high throughout the cruise and there was something for everybody. We were very lucky with the weather for almost the entire fortnight with sunny and unseasonably warm conditions, plus the water levels in the rivers and canals were sufficient to allow the ship to travel through without any problems. The cabins had wi-fi, but sometimes the service was weak or intermittent or a connection could not be made, especially when we were away from the larger towns or while in locks. You cannot download material such as books, so you need to attend to that before travelling. The ship’s sun deck was lovely, especially when travelling through picturesque regions such as the Middle Rhine and the Wachau Valleys. The sun deck was closed for about five days during the middle of the cruise because of low bridges over the River Main. The rooms have almost everything you need, including hairdryers for the ladies, but there are no irons and none are permitted for safety reasons. That was the only minor criticism, because the only way to have washing and pressing done was by the crew and the costs can add up. Overall though, the entire river cruise was thoroughly enjoyable and we would certainly recommend Scenic and the Scenic Amber to anyone wishing to have a memorable and quite luxurious journey with magnificent scenery and beautiful towns and villages. From the moment we were greeted at Amsterdam airport by a Scenic tour director, we knew we had made a great choice. We had done numerous ocean cruises in the past and had decided that a river cruise taking in the Christmas markets was a great way to see parts on Europe that we had missed on previous adventures. The cabin, while at first looking smaller than expected was a lot larger once he curtains opened up onto our balcony which included a versatile window that could be raised or lowered at the flick of a switch. The ship (Scenic Crystal) was excellent as was the staff throughout with a very special mention to Yvonne out cruise director who was a sensation and loads of fun. The tours to all of the small towns and cities were extremely well run and informative with no problems at all along the way and the scenery as the ship sailed down the Rhine Gorge had to be seen to be believed. Do not worry about getting bored on this cruise as there is no time for bordom! This is a cruise that I would totally recommend and a company that stands by their word. Scenic deliver! Read Less

Scenic guests travelling from Britain have a free choice or air travel, or first-class rail. As I had never been through the Channel Tunnel before, or used Eurostar or TGV, I chose the rail option. SCENIC REALLY MUST PROVIDE BETTER GUIDANCE TO GETTING ACROSS PARIS! If you've transferred between Paris stations before, you shouldn't have any problems, but if you've not done it before, expect a nightmare! Eurostar terminates at Gare du Nord and TGV leaves from Gare du Lyon. You can either transfer between stations via taxi, or the Paris Metro (=Underground). Signage on Paris Metro and Gare du Lyon is very poor: I tried to get to the right platform on the Metro, but struggled to find the right lift (I had a suitcase) and ended up on the wrong platforms a couple of times. ...On the Underground in London, they don't allow suitcases on escalators and you must use lifts, I assumed Paris was the same, but it appears it wasn't, so I gave up on the lifts and used escalators! ...All this confusion made me miss the 10:15 train to Basel! The woman in the ticket office made me pay full price (189 Euros) for a new ticket on the 12:15 train. Even then, it was difficult to find the platforms (on a higher level than the ticket office) and I only just made the 12:15. Also, rail & Metro staff in Paris are far less helpful than London's rail and tube staff. ...Fortunately I was still well in time for the ship, as it didn't depart Basel until 23:45 and the free taxi transfer arrived promptly. Breakfast was excellent on Scenic Jade, everything you could possibly need: Full English, Continental, fruit, yoghurt, fish, fruit juice, etc.. HOWEVER, dinner was as bad as breakfast was good. I was a solo traveller, this is my first river cruise, but I've done sixteen seacruises. On seacruises single travellers are offered the option of going on a large table with other singles AND everyone has a reserved place at dinner: NOT SO ON SCENIC! ...Sit where you want and if you're single, either eat on your own, get room service, or take the plunge and risk a "They're reserved for our friends" reply, or a "What's he doing here?" look. It would be so much easier if they reserved seats and had a big table option for singles! Early on in the cruise, dinner service was slow and confused, but they seemed to improve on week two. A big drawback with a lot of seacruises is the airconditioning is always on, even when it's only about 12C/54F outside, so everywhere's freezing cold. Not so on Scenic Jade:YOU CAN TURN THE A/C OFF, YESSSS!!! ...I had a Balcony Suite (237, starboard aft). It's not a fully open balcony. It has a large electric sash window on the outside, which has a noisy motor and can be a bit difficult to close: so it's best to leave the balcony window slightly open at night, to avoid disturbing your neighbours, if you get upin the night to photograph or film where you're going through. The balcony has inner doors, so the cabin doesn't get cold, even in Europe in October. Most of the passengers were Australian (I guess about 80%), Canadians made up about 14% and Americans about 5%. I believe I was the only British person. River cruising is a lot more free and easy than sea cruises: you can freely wander on and off ship, without having to constantly show your pass, or yield to bag searches. Also, there are quite a lot of overnight moorings, so you could stay out all night, or visit people in the areas the ship moors in. There was entertainment on Scenic Jade in the evenings, but I didn't go to any, as there's plenty to do anyway: the ship is often moored in the evenings and there are also inclusive off-ship dining experiences in some places the ship moors at. I did go to the crew show, but this was not as good as the general standard on seacruises: most acts were just larking about, with a couple of exceptions. Germany was a real eye-opener, it's always been a place to drive through in the late evening or night, to & from Switzerland or Italy, but the Moselle River is as impressively scenic as much of Switzerland (I know, I've been to CH five times). The Netherlands was very enjoyable too: helped by unbroken sun on the days we were in Veere (a quaint New England-like village), Antwerp (Belgium) and Amsterdam. Read Less
