We chose this cruise as it was something my elderly mother and father had always wanted to do. My father passed away before they had the chance to go so we did a mother daughter trip. The ship was beautiful and the staff were incredible with their service no matter what role they had on the boat. The food was amazing - as was the wine selections it was truly a wonderful experience and a wonderful way to see the Seine and its rich history. The organised trips were good although my only feedback on these were some were very arduous for any one really elderly or with mobility impairments. Although in saying this the cruise director was very good at describing each tour option the evening before. This was a lovely experience and total "all inclusive" so the price covered everything except the hairdresser or the massage, no tipping required. We could not really fault this except the weather could have been a little kinder :-) Read Less

My mother wanted to do another river cruise (our first was the Rhone in France) and I selected the Douro based on my friends' many visits to Portugal. It was lovely. Although my mother has limited mobility, the staff went out of their way to make sure my mother and I really enjoyed the trip. The entertainment and activities were great, the cabin was a generous size, especially the balcony. We enjoyed the deck, we met some lovely people, tasted some great food. My mother is already wondering if we will do another river cruise. To top it off, I had a medical emergency on the last day - the staff looked after everything, including contacting my travel agent and my family member, and keeping an eye on my mother. When I was back on ship, our butler pretty much packed everything for us and the staff made sure we caught our flight the next day. That went far beyond my expectations. Read Less

This is our third Scenic Cruise both previous ones were in Asia and were outstanding in ALL RESPECTS. We were a little taken aback atvthe sizebof alm the ships on the Danube as ours and all others seemed to have over 150 passengers which to me was like a cruise line with 4000 plus passengers! Having said that the organisation of the cruise was outstanding and our every wish was accommodated! It was hard to understand why do few cruises go through to the Black Sea as the further north we went the demands of more and more tours became apparent and quality deteriorated! And we travelled in April! The staff in our ship were equivalent to the outstanding crew we had experienced in Myanmar and The Mekong! Our butler service by ATI and Stat made the journey so much more enjoyable and they are to be commended similarly the joviality of the senior butler Chris was appreciated by all! The Cruise Director was happy to meet our needs as because of a disability I cannot walk far and we had all our requests accommodated! The cruise on the Danube was relaxing and enjoyable the countries visited were historically interesting and we enjoyed the experience! I would not want to further up and suffer the issues of overwhelming Numbers! Each passenger has their own expectations we had ours met by the splendour of the Riger and countries the absolute attention to detail by our Bali butler ATI and the help of our support butler from Serbia Stat who was a source of great local information to us! Thank you staff we enjoyed The first night at The Marriot in Bucharest is best forgotten and the company should look for a better venue! Read Less

I love the Scenic river cruise line. This was my 4th trip with them. I particularly like having everything included such as: all tips even for shore excursions, mini bar, cocktails, coffee & tea anytime, special shore Enrichment events like a concert or Medieval dinner in a castle just for us. You can have an early or late breakfast and there is always something to eat between meals. There is a gentle walk excursion for those that have some mobility issues. This was great for those with walkers, canes etc. I also loved the opportunity to have a laundry bag stuffed full of dirty clothes laundered free of charge once during the trip as it was very hot and we changed clothes a few times a day. A waiter even remembered me and my first name from a cruise I took 2 years ago. Pretty impressive!! The crew on the Jade went out of their way to make our cruise a true hassle free excursion. In short, "What you pay before you start is all you pay". Read Less

We saw this Cruise listed in one of Scenic's brochures and thought this was a little different. It was a unique experience and were fully occupied by our Tour Director Raquel. The villages and port making establishment visits were well balanced as was the whole trip. Having cruised the Danube and Russia on Scenic's boats as well as the Inside passage, this cruise was very contrasting both in the scenic sense but culturally. The were able to interact more closely with the locals than ever before. Although the growing of grapes and the making o port was much of the focus of this cruise, and there was certainly no shortage of beautiful ports, the beauty of the countryside was stunning. So too was the attention paid to detail on the Scenic Azure that was equal to previous Scenic River Cruising boats. We concluded our tour by saying "we could easily live here". Our River Cruise was preceded by a 3 night extension in Lisbon that is really worthwhile with plenty of time to "do your own thing". Don't wait, just do it! Read Less

We loved Scenic because their balconies offered an automatic glass window that you could raise to lower to expand the bedroom space and allow us to enjoy the river scenery. They also offered multiple choices of excursions each day and all were included. The tailor made devices were cumbersome to use on the tours but here helpful to point our sites while on the river. The staff were superb and the food choices were fabulous. The cruise director was exceptional at accommodating any request by guests and ensure we all had a fabulous experience. We loved starting in Budapest and cruising to Amsterdam so the 68 lift locks came first then we had an easier cruise into Holland. We had great weather --22-28 degrees. The water was low but we only were stuck in the mud at one point when we moved to the side of the Rhine to let another river cruise ship go by. There were days when we had to close the sun deck as the the clearance to the bridges was so tight. The concert in Palace Lichenstein in Vienna and the Sounds of Music in Salzberg were highlights as was the Sundown evening in Aggstein Castle. Dining was open and earliest you could have dinner was 7:00pm. But after the excursions and the pre-dinner entetrainment eg. violinist, string quartet etc. made it seem not so late to eat. The gym was small and had only 2 bicycles but we made do. I would love to do another Scenic cruise SOME DAY! Read Less

My husband and I wanted to see Germany, Amsterdam and Budapest. I wanted a luxury ship that would attend to all my needs. I am blind and I appreciate the extra services we received as we booked one of the two largest suites on the ship. I had everything I needed to make this an excellent vacation. Our butler, Ratko Adjic went above and beyond for me. From morning cappiciinos to drawing my bath in the evening I was well treated. Dinner with the captain was marvelous. This cruise was all inclusive, alcohol, excursions and gratuities. The excursions were very well planned in each town. We were able to get a taste of the city and in two towns we had private concerts. It was fabulous. Richard the cruise director did a great job planning for our enjoyment. They never requested a credit card! We will travel with Scenic in 2020, Bardeaux to Bardeaux. Can't wait! Read Less

My husband and I have nothing but praise for this ship and her crew and Scenic in general. From the moment we boarded our 'spaceship' we were treated like royalty. We had a balcony cabin port side on the Amsterdam to Budapest cruise that was spacious and comfortable, with a bed you melted into at the end of an adventure filled day. The bathroom was very roomy and the water pressure and temperature were wonderful. All tours, drinks, food and entertainment were included so you didn't have to put your hand in your pocket - unless you wanted to buy something to take home. It was great to know that everything was paid for before we left Australia. The food was plentiful, delicious and varied, it changed from region to region - as we did, along with the wines. Wonderful new wines every day. So much food! "It must be time to eat." The staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly and funny - even at midnight when my husband wanted a cheeseburger and a glass of red. The ports of call were wonderful for someone who hasn't been to that part of Europe before. Easy to do, lots of walking on cobly streets but flat. Such history! It was magnificent. There were many shore excursions to choose from or you could just stay on board and do nothing in a quiet corner. Something for everyone. We made some wonderful new friends that we will keep in touch with. The age group was extremely varied from 20 somethings to 80 somethings. NOT full of old people. We were on the first tour of the season and I must admit it was better than going in high summer or later. No leaves on the trees meant you could see a lot more as you cruised the river. Another couple of weeks and all you will see is trees! Less people, no queues or crowds at any of the venues. Bliss. We have already booked our next Scenic trip. If you've been thinking about it - just do it. Read Less

Having had a great 8 day experience last tear with Scenic, we booked the Romantic Rhine and Moselle cruise sailing from Amsterdam, and finishing in Basel. We booked a few extra nights in Amsterdam prior to the cruise and stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton. This allowed us to have time to explore Amsterdam, and have an easy embarkation. Scenic use the Double Tree as their base in Amsterdam, so having checked out, we went to the Scenic lounge where the cases were taken, and placed in our cabin. We had a few hours in a comfortable lounge, getting to know other passengers before a coach came to take us to the Scenic crystal. A very slick process. Having been given our cabin details, we were delighted with it - worth paying a little more for the cabin as it was nearer the central area, and more spacious. The cabin staff were first class. The cabin attendant who looked after the room was fantastic. The butler was first class. The one point is that unless your request alternative synthetic bedding, the bedding is feather and down. My wife is allergic to feathers and had a serious reaction. The staff and cruise director were very helpful, and the bedding and pillows were replaced. The on shore excursions were generally very informative but it would have been better if we had more free time to explore the towns we visited in bit more detail. I'm thinking in particular of Maastricht, Colmaer and Heidelberg. I would have happily sacrificed the stop at Duisburg if it allowed more time in one or more of these places. The majority of passengers were Australian, with a sprinkling of Kiwis, Canadians and Brits. I think this mix is great as you get to know people from distant countries who all share a common language. The majority of trips were guided very professionally. The one exception was to Strasbourg by a French guide who spoke from the minute she introduced herself on the bus to the time she departed. It would have been better if she'd have slowed her delivery, and perhaps concentrated on few major points than trying to cram in everything. Dining experience was very good. There is the main restaurant, supplemented by the Table La Rive (a 6 course, degustation menu, with wine paring, by invitation to Diamond deck guests only), and Portobellos which everyone on the ship sampled The service was generally very good although, as it was the last cruise of the season,I felt that some of the staff were already on their way home and lacked that extra attentiveness that we received last year. Disembarkation was also very slick. SCENIC have this down to a fine art. Overall, this was another first class experience, and I'd have no hesitation in recommending SCENIC for anyone who wanted hassle free travelling. Nothing is too much trouble. My wife is disabled (mobility issues) but she was able to participate in all of the on shore activities as well as the evening entertainment and had a fantastic, relaxing time. Definitely will continue to use SCENIC for further holidays Read Less

We chose this cruise to travel with friends who had been with Scenic previously. We travelled by Eurostar and TGV to Bordeaux, which was fine but only just made it to Paris Montparnasse as the cross-Paris timing was very tight. On arrival at Bordeaux we were not met by any representative so made our own way to the ship. From there our luggage was taken on board, we were given champagne and escorted through the beautiful ship to our cabin, which although smallish by ocean cruise standards was beautifully fitted with a balcony and kept spotless by our cabin attendant Angela. The dining on the ship was excellent with fine wines and other drinks included. The choice of food was excellent and the two special dining evenings were superb. There was a wide choice of excursions (included) to wine chateaux to taste and dine. Passengers should be aware that they should be fairly fit for the walking involved. The entertainment on board was a resident musician, and guest artistes from the local area, and also a very good crew show. Finally, the crew and service on board was faultless, friendly and attentive with a smile. Disembarkation went smoothly and we were transferred to the station for our train journey back to the UK. Would we go again - yes but would need to pace ourselves for the walking involved. Read Less

Having already enjoyed the Scenic Jewels of Europe Cruise, we were more than happy to do another Scenic Cruise and chose the South of France with equally as enjoyable results. The entire crew of the Scenic Sapphire were very pleasant, approachable, eager to please and to share their experiences aboard, and indeed Sonja, the Tour Director was absolutely tops - her sense of humour, her organisation, her personality won us all over in no time. The social life on board was excellent, albeit we had far too many late nights enjoying it all, and it was often hard to rise early to go on the tours.......the tour selections catered for all tastes and interests and there was not one that we did not enjoy. We were given a magnificent overview of life in southern France, both nowadays and of the medieval times. On board welcomes and farewells were well orchestrated and an enjoyable experience, rather than hassles of embarking and disembarking, everything was taken care of for you. The cabins, even if a little small as would be expected on a river ship, were well designed and appointed with more than ample space for storage and in the ensuite. The food was of gourmet standard and once again all tastes were catered for - and there would be not one person who would go hungry or short of choices. To our taste, the French wines were not quite as good as the German ones on the Rhine Cruise, but that did not stop us enjoying most of them. All staff service was of a very high standard and enjoyable. We would not hesitate to do this trip again, but we know there are several other Scenic tours that we have yet to experience and enjoy. Our appreciation and thanks to Scenic for a memorable river cruise in the South of France - we loved it. Read Less

Culture so different to our own.To taste the varieties of food and drink's.The architecture. The transport. The language. We managed very well. The entertainment on and off the ship was remarkable. The excursions were better than expected. A good time frame as well. No rushing all the time. The ship was only 4 month's old and impeccable. Our cabin on the 2nd floor was superb. The food was out of this world, the variety was so fantastic. We could not have ever wished for any more.Entertainment from crew and local's was fabulous and funny where it was supposed to be.The service was so good . We had a butler" George" . He was great. There wasn't one time that we walked into any of the lounges or dining room without someone ushering you to a table or offering drink's.It was all mind blowing ,can't wait to do it again in another country. Not up to the standards set by Viking or Uniworld! A cruise of contrasts:- The crew were mostly excellent but the waiters at the Farewell Dinner lacked organisation and enthusiasm. Access to the ship was difficult for many passengers as it usually involved a steep and inadequate gangway plus a climb or two via the ship's upper deck and sometimes that of double or treble moored vessels alongside. The cabins were well designed but the air conditioning did not either heat or cool the cabin adequately - and yes, we had the windows closed as instructed. The "free" drinks on board were thought to be of poor value for those not drinking or drinking little. Similarly the trips were all included but not wanted by all. The quality of food and drinks was very good (occasionally first class!) but vegetables were sparse in number and quantity for some. Our t transfers from and to the ship were well organised but the need to spend nearly six our in a very "tired" Hilton in Amsterdam on the way home very questionable. Earlier flights to Leeds were available ,- and we did book a year in advance! The excursions should have been much easier with the option of a slower walking group as we have been offered in the past. The coaches were a long way from the ship, and insufficient information was given in advance as to how much additional walking was involved. We think by having optional tours at a cost the quality of these experiences could be much improve - we thought Scenic was "penny-pinching"! The introduction of the whole crew on the last night wsas farcical and, if done at all, should have been done at the onset. In conclusion a quite enjoyable experience but, at the price, should and could have been much, much, better. Read Less

From the moment we were greeted at Amsterdam airport by a Scenic tour director, we knew we had made a great choice. We had done numerous ocean cruises in the past and had decided that a river cruise taking in the Christmas markets was a great way to see parts on Europe that we had missed on previous adventures. The cabin, while at first looking smaller than expected was a lot larger once he curtains opened up onto our balcony which included a versatile window that could be raised or lowered at the flick of a switch. The ship (Scenic Crystal) was excellent as was the staff throughout with a very special mention to Yvonne out cruise director who was a sensation and loads of fun. The tours to all of the small towns and cities were extremely well run and informative with no problems at all along the way and the scenery as the ship sailed down the Rhine Gorge had to be seen to be believed. Do not worry about getting bored on this cruise as there is no time for bordom! This is a cruise that I would totally recommend and a company that stands by their word. Scenic deliver! Read Less

In Australia, we were happy to pay the $11,000 per person (excluding airfares) based on the fact that everything you could possibly need or want on tour was included in the tour price - "a five star, once in a lifetime luxurious experience!" is what we were sold. This was supported by advertising propaganda provided to our travel agent, inserts in their Scenic Russia brochure and on-line advertising which states "travel without your wallet"! and shows pictures of a butler cleaning shoes, etc. On boarding the ship the story is very different, with passengers being asked to sign paperwork for their "on-board account" as soon as they board the ship. Nothing is at request, with access to food and drink only at meal times unless you pay. The only exception being tea and coffee which can be obtained from a machine at any time. Dispite being asked to provide dietary requirements months in advance, these are only catered for as an after-thought by removing what can't be eaten (no special meals) and if it can't be removed, expect to be offered very little to eat. There is no butler, no assistance for elderly passengers, no laundry, a Dr is on board but all medical services must be paid for. Rooms are modest. The fitness centre is a walking machine and a bike in the upstairs bar. Live entertainment is rare, most evenings this will entail the sad sight of a member of crew DJing. In no way the five star, once in a lifetime luxurious experience it was billed as being. In the very least, knowing the truth would have allowed us to pack and budget differently. But in reality had we known the truth about what was on offer, we would not have taken this tour. To say we are dissappointed is an understatement. Read Less
