It was recommended by our travel agent. We were not sure where to go and she thought this would be a good change. We especially enjoyed the music concert at the Palace Lichenstien. The lunch at the oldest restaurant in Salzburg which dates back to the 1400's was a real treat. We participated in the 35km bike ride along the Danube and that was truly special Ship - very nice and intimate Cabin - small but all that was needed Dining - all our meals were delicious especially the Table de Rive Entertainment - only one night was really good and that was Trivia night Ports and excursions - all were good Tips - if doing the 35km bike ride ensure to bring plenty of water and something to snack on as we got very hungry. We would definiately do another river cruise. Staff was excellent and we were taken care of from start to finish. Not a care in the world !!!! Read Less

On advise from our travel agent and excellent reviews we decided to travel through Europe on a river purpose built vessel and experience this fantastic trip ourselves , booked a year in advance to secure a cabin on deck 3 ,before the actual cruise we booked through Scenic into the Marriott ( outstanding hotel) and the view on the Danube river to give us enough time to explore the city for a couple of days The day of embarkation , smooth and hassle free, disembarkation in Amsterdam likewise with transfers well organised by our outstanding cruise director Patrik . The Ship is what it is , modern and clean with excellent and very professional and friendly staff who do their best to make this a great experience. We didn't use the room service as we preferred to use the dining facilities in the main mess room, that was our choice , my guess is the cabin (333) is fairly compact but well appointed but not great for in cabin dining :-) The set up of these ships , only one dining room to accomodate all passengers for meals and if the bell rings for ' Chow time' people seem to rush down to secure their seats and if you decide to enter a bit later you feel sort of stranded , Scenic try to sort this out by using their Porto Bello area in the main lounge as well , this helps to a certain extend and this should be done every time , and am sure the hotel staff is aware of this . Dining is okay , I am not a complainer by all means, on a scale of 1-10, cannot give it more than 7.5- 8 , their is choice however , but would love the dining degustation experience that was offered to us at the ' Captains Table ' on every occasion and for all guests, as is the Porto Bello fine dining experience . Entertainment , love our pianist Marco Di Napoli Shore activities , out of this world ! Well organised , loved it 100 % Do I want to make another cruise with Scenic ? Probably as a foody and wine lover perhaps France , make no mistake the German and Austrian wines are excellent too. Read Less

We chose Scenic after attending one of their local presentations and after extensive research. We were not disappointed. Their attention to detail and providing us with the best experience we have ever had, was exceptional. The crew working as a team did an amazing job in providing us quality comfort. After understanding the efforts of the captain, cruise director and crew to assure the cruise and lock timings, we have a great appreciation for their achievements in making sure our experiences occurred seamlessly. The excursions choices and tour guides were very good and enriched us with a flavour and appreciation of the towns and countries we travelled through. The food was nothing short of exceptional, in quality, quantity and presentation as was the service. Our room attendant and butler were very friendly and accommodating, a service many overlook...but not us. A job well done and appreciated. A big hand to our cruise director Eric, who kept the happy travellers engaged and looking forward to each day. He did an exceptional job, again seamlessly to us, in orchestrating the our cruise and making sure our voyage experience was so pleasureable and memorable. Overall this was a fantastic experience that was made so by a great crew and organization right from the admin staff who arranged our trip to the ship crew and staff and the excursion tour staff as well. We would highly recommend Scenic to our friends and look forward to another Scenic experience in the future. (***We have one concern we would like to share with you. During our cruise, there was a group, that behaved less than satisfactory. They were loud at times and seem to monopolize the small swimming pool, much to the disappointment of others who wanted to use the pool. This was fuelled by large quantities of alcohol. They also captured more that adequate service from staff at the expense of other travelers. We are concerned that this group, based on the type of experience they would relay to friends, would encourage others who feel unending supply of alcohol and attention, is the reason to take a Scenic cruise. We are sure that you would agree with us, that this is not the path that Scenic would like to take as it would greatly jeopardize the quality experience Scenic portrays. We hope that Scenic examines this occurrence and puts into place well ahead of time, actions to correct this behaviour before it becomes a negative irritation to others and tarnishes the experience.) Beyond this...the experience was nothing short of exceptional! Thank you, Scenic. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation were fast and easy. The ship was pristine clean, easy to walk around. The suite cabin was compact with lots of storage place, the balcony is an oasis of retreat Dining is first class. The waiters, chef and buss people are first class (courteous, efficient and always happy to serve you). Entertainment and activities are chosen with great detail. You can do as much or less as you want. Our cruise director went above and beyond her duties. Service was a 10 + The e-bikes are a bonus. Easy to use and they you the opportunity to go as near of as far from the ship that you watt. Ports and shore excursions are chosen with great detail. Easy and tailored to everybody's needs. We are absolutely going back on Scenic, a real all inclusive trip. We did a 15 day cruise which was enough to see and appreciate that part of the Danube, Maine and Rhine. Congratulations Scenic. We figured we were old enough now to do one of these river cruises - being in our early 60's. We splurged & chose one of the Royal Suites. Best decision ever! The cabins are relatively compact on these river cruises, so the added bonus of a little sitting room & a bathroom with a bath was very much appreciated. Not that you spend a huge amount of time in your cabin but when we did we really enjoyed the space. Included in this level of cabin is free laundry which was great. (one downside was that a couple of pieces of clothing shrunk (maybe very hot water).....and no it wasn't the copius food & alcohol consumed :-) the pants I put in actually shrunk in the leg length by about 4-5 cms unfortunately. And they had a smoky smell when returned - which I worked out was probably the chemicals used in the wash??). Also included was $200 on board credit which no one reminded me about until we were 1/2 way into the cruise. I ended up having 3 massages - if I had been paying directly out of my pocket it would have stopped at one. The room was really stark & she played this god awful music that was not in the least bit restful (at one stage it went into rap!) And she was a personality free zone. I put it down to language difficulties, but not so sure tbh. She came across as very stern. Like all cabins we had butler service & I have to say our butler - Chris went above & beyond the whole time, as did our room attendant but his name escapes me. Both were from Indonesia. They were absolutely delightful & made the cruise that much more enjoyable. Could not fault any of the staff who were assigned to look after us. Exemplary! There was only one female butler who could be a bit grumpy but by the end we even managed to get a smile from her. The bar staff were so much fun, the executives who oversaw the running of the ship were professional & courteous & it was really obvious they wanted everyone to have the best time. We had dinner with the captain on the 2nd night of the cruise, which we really enjoyed. He was a lovely fellow & very interesting. We had 167 passengers on board & for the most part they were friendly & wanted to chat. We met up & became fast friends with a bunch of Canadians. Had such a good time with them. There were a few we steered clear of, but all in all it was great. The staff work every hour god made & yet they stayed cheerful & were always willing to engage. I would do another Scenic cruise in a heartbeat as I think they do 5 star really well.(except for the pathetic fitness centre) Read Less

We had previously cruised with Scenic on the Rhine River in the fall and had a terrific time. We actually booked this cruise for the Danube River over two years ago in order to ensure we got our first choice of cabins. At first, glance Scenic may seem more expensive than other river cruise lines in Europe. However, the key with Scenic is that almost everything is included. (Butler service, food, alcohol, including restocking your mini-bar daily, shore excursions and transfers). They will even provide electric bikes at no charge if you wish to explore on your own or in a group. I should mention tipping is included on board the ship as well as for your shore excursions. It is totally up to you if you decide to leave extra for any of the staff which I chose to do. You don't even need to set up an onboard account. The Scenic staff even passes out free bottled water as you exit the ship for your shore excursions, unlike some cruise lines that will try to sell you water. Scenic also sent two high-quality backpacks for my wife and me to take on our trip along with our travel documents two weeks prior to the cruise departure. Worried about getting lost if you decide to explore a city on your own? Scenic provides two GPS units (called Taylormades) to each cabin that are pre-programmed with points of interest, historical commentary, walking tours and maps. While on board you can turn it on and listen to commentary regarding points of interests as you pass by them on the river. One of the keys to me on any cruise is the friendliness of the staff members. The staff on this cruise were outstanding. It is apparent that getting to work on Scenic is a sought-after position for many of the staff members. BUTLERS: Bogdan and Harry Every group of cabins has a butler assigned. Our assigned butler was Bogdan and it is obvious why he was the chief butler on this ship. In our initial meeting with Bogdan, I mentioned I had enjoyed the miniature Bailey Irish Cremes that were in our mini-bar on the previous Scenic cruise on the Rhine. Bogdan apologized and said they didn't stock Bailey’s on this ship. However, he offered to bring me a Bailey’s from the bar anytime I wanted. I told him I certainly did not expect him to do this since our cabin was at the very back of the ship and I would be glad to walk to the bar. Bogdan insisted he would not mind. However, by the next day, my mini-bar was stocked with Baileys. Obviously, Scenic sent someone on shore to purchase some Bailey’s miniatures for me. I also want to mention Harry who is another butler that provided great service throughout our cruise. Bogdan and Harry were the team leaders at our incredible meal at Table Le Rive on one of the nights. It was an over three-hour meal for a dozen passengers that had six courses along with six flights of wine and an after-dinner drink. Harry always had a smile on his face and knew our names by the second day even though he wasn’t our assigned butler. I predict Harry will be the chief butler on another of the Scenic ships in the future. FOOD: Chef Raka GLUTEN FREE Available Obviously, this was particularly important for my wife and me since she has Celiac Disease and has to eat Gluten Free to avoid being hospitalized if the food is cross-contaminated. Agnes who is the restaurant manager met with a group of us with food allergies on the first evening in order to assure us they could accommodate our requests. Each day Agnes had lists of the meals for lunch and dinner sent directly to our cabin. The items my wife could not have were highlighted. Frankly, even if the items were highlighted they were willing to accommodate us. One example was when Wienerschnitzel was being served one evening. Naturally, it is typically coated with a wheat flour. They arranged to make Sheila some that were coated in rice or potatoes flower. Our waiter Satri and his assistant Dilip were great. They worked their butts off to provide top-level service to us in the dining room. Scenic has open seating but we made it a point to sit in the area served by both Satri and Dilip since we enjoyed having them service our table. Satri would immediately know to bring our Gluten Free bread for my wife. Plus he made sure there were special gluten-free deserts available beside typical fruit and ice cream options. HOTEL MANAGER: Marije Marija has obviously put together a top-flight team of managers. Everyone is always working to ensure your expectations are exceeded. We initially had an issue with our cabin being hot. Marije sent the chief engineer to our cabin to work on the issue. Throughout the cruise, Marije personally followed up with us to make sure we were pleased. Marije is very much a hands-on a boss who leads by example. CRUISE DIRECTOR: Adrian Anyone who has cruised knows the importance of having a good cruise director and how many hours they work. It seems they are the first up and the last to go to sleep. Adrian was absolutely impressive. Each day he provided port briefings for the following day with useful tips. He was always available as the busses were loaded to the various excursions offered each day. Adrain is a “worker”. At the end of the cruise, passengers were headed in many different directions (some heading to Prague, other to the airport, and some leaving on their own). Someone questioned Adrain whether their luggage would be properly handled. Adrian assured them he had never lost a badge and that he would be overseeing the bags on the day of departure. Adrian wasn’t kidding. He personally checked every luggage tag of all the bags by the side of the ship and personally helped carry and put them underneath the buses. He obviously, doesn't need to use the gym since he gets an incredible physical workout. SUMMARY: If you want a cruise where amost everything is included and the service is TOP NOTCH, then I highly recommend Scenic. My wife and I are already looking forward to our two upcoming cruises on the new Scenic Discovey ship that will offer cruises all across the world. We have booked Cuba for this fall and the Norwegian Fjords for summer of 2019. Read Less

Our first river cruise, found Scenic to offer everything we wanted, rooms with full balconies, all inclusive price including meals, tours, entertainment, alcholic beverages. The tours were first class in every way, just fabulous, extremely well organized and coordinated. enjoyed every moment of every tour Once on the cruise we found this was all true, no restrictions whatsoever, and we also found the Scenic Ruby to be a fabulous ship, the cleanest ship possible in every way, the staff to be more than happy to please everyone at all times, couldn't do enough for us, the managremet team on board was the same, seemed to want to make certain everyone thoroughly enjoyed every moment with the Scenic Ruby and their staff. The cruise director, Weirney, was unbelievable, just fabulous, there cannot be anyone better on any other ship. He was fabulous, couldn't be more friendly, caring, entertaining, efficient, helpfiul, knowledgable, resourceful in any way. He was great. We cannot find the best words to convey how fabulous was everything and everyone associated with the Scenic Ruby. The cruise was unbelievable and beyond our expectations in every regard. Read Less

I would highly recommend this cruise to others, especially in the 60+ age bracket. The only complaint I had was that the scrambled eggs at breakfast and some of the sauces had too much salt. Breakfast was easily overcome by ordering from the menu or having an omelet. This was a wonderful cruise. Our cruise director, Eric, did everything possible to ensure we had the best possible time. I also liked the fact that everything was paid up front so I did not have to keep opening my wallet. I would definitely cruise with this line again. The staff were so friendly and attentive. I definitely felt spoiled. We did not add any days before or after the cruise so we were on a tight timeline but Scenic made it work, no issues at the airports, just a seemless vacation experience. I would definitely do another cruise with them in the future. Read Less

We have travelled from Amsterdam to Budapest and wanted to see the remainder of the Danube. We found the area very different, not as interesting but the cruise itself was enjoyable. The area has seen it share of communism and war. Plenty of bullet holes throughout the region. Budapest and Bucharest are both fascinating cities although the remainder of the owns leave a lot to be desired. The excursions offered were not the best but more than likely there isn't much available. There was quite a mixture of passengers from numerous countries which always adds interest to the cruise. A note to anyone travelling on Scenic. It is suggested a jacket for the men but I saw only two gentlemen bother. It is a more relaxed atmosphere with smart casual dinner dress. The hotels provided both before and after were excellent including the transfers to and from the airport and ship. All in all a good cruise and we would travel with Scenic again. Read Less

We were recommended to Scenic by dear friends who have had great experiences with this company. We were told about the 5 star food, drinks and accommodations. We booked a balcony suite 2 years in advance and saved to go on this cruise. It started off on a bad note on day one. We went to the bar and ordered champagne to celebrate our cruise. We were told to go sit down and that they would bring us our drinks. What they served us was not champagne. It was something sparkling but of such poor quality that we returned the drink. The bartender, Alin, explained that most guests preferred prosecco, so that is what he pours. No. We specifically ordered what we wanted. We didn't want a substitute of something inferior. This was the tone of the entire cruise with the bar staff. Eventually, we just stopped ordering drinks. If you ordered Remy Martin cognac you received something that would burn your throat. The bar staff would give us rude comments and show mocking behaviour about our champagne request whenever we came in the bar. We were always polite but insistent on getting what we ordered. They would pre-pour drinks and have glasses lined up with who knows what. When you asked for something specific they would substitute it for something inferior. If you did not insist that they pour it in front of you, you could never be sure what you had received, you only knew that it wasn't what you ordered. When you save your money and pay for a high quality experience you have every right to expect it. At the end, we were charged for items we did not order and had to argue it at settlement. The food was horrible. 3 star at best. As I have read of others, we lost weight on the ship. The salads were browned lettuce with no dressing. We could see no reason for the poor produce as we visited the central market in Budapest before the cruise and could see the beautiful produce available. The quality of everything served was just mediocre. We were so thrilled with the land excursions and the chance to eat a tasty meal that we willing paid of our own money for these experiences. The wine quality on the ship is very poor. The serve it freely at dinner but after tasting it, I usually drank water. At the Portabellas restaurant we left before dessert because it was such a poor meal. I will include photos I took of the breakfast selections, you be the judge if it looks 5 star quality. The coffee is vending machine coffee. At least they served Moet champagne at breakfast, but who wants to drink in the mornings? On the last evening, the menu produced was so lacking that my companion asked for a burger instead. The restaurant manager came over with snarky comments about "Here is your McDonalds". We don't eat a McDonalds at home. We don't eat fast food at all. The food is so poor, we figured they couldn't screw up a burger, could they? Many people ordered specific things not on the menu because the menu was just so poor. The ship itself was fine. Our room was fine. David, who offered the entertainment was great and was a nice, friendly diversion when we needed to go to the lounge/bar for updates. Yvonne, the cruise director, did an exceptional job and offered great suggestions. Dennis, our housekeeper was a highlight of our cruise. He always had pleasant conversation and was so attentive. We saw the butler once. After that it was kitchen or wait staff that would bring the things we ordered to our room. Dennis was the most attentive. The only negative about the room is that other ships dock right next to you so the balcony use is very limited. Mostly you are looking into the room of the next ship. Our best part on this cruise was when it ended and we did the land portion. The Scenic guides in Prague, were the best. The Marriot was a real treat after the ship. I'm glad we didn't start in Prague because getting on the ship would have been even more of a let down. I loved hearing the personal stories of the guides. It brought so much to my enjoyment of the cruise. We cannot, in good conscious, recommend a Scenic Cruise. Read Less

We chose this trip because of my interest in history and music. The main cities where we spent time fitted in with those interests. Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague were all wonderful places to visit. The meals on board were excellent. The guides on shore trips were first rate. After leaving the boat in Nuremberg we went to Prague by bus.All of the buses that were used to get us from the boat to the various short destinations on the cruise were luxury vehicles. We chose Scenic in part, from a recommendation by our Travel Agent (M. Gaw of Vision Travel) and a local presentation by the company. We wanted a slightly ‘up-scale’ cruise. We liked the idea of a European river cruise to minimize our time in coaches and not having to change hotels every night or two with all that implies. The number of people on the ship was to our liking. It is a group tour done “better”. See fewer countries but at a better pace. This particular cruise fit into our dates available, length of cruise (8 days) with the 3-day Prague extension but also, the trip went to an area we have wanted to explore for some time (Austria/Czech). The flexibility of the included excursions and the availability of E-bikes were an added feature we very much liked. In addition, the help from our travel agent to make sure all the deatils were included and explained along with other factors (early arrival, organization of air travel, etc.), made our confirmation of this choice easy. The use of Marriott hotels at both locations (Budapest and Prague) were great. The whole trip, from the early arrival to departure went extremely smoothly. We were extremely happy with the Scenic Jasper ship but more importantly, in our opinion, the crew were fabulous from the cruise director through the wait staff, were the best. Our cabin was perfect for us. The quality of the food but especially the bar were ‘top-notch’ with real champagne, great domestic and imported wines and a good selection of single malt. Cabin and cruise service(s) were teriffic even if we ‘under-used’ these amenities. We met some very nice and interesting people from around the world and were happy to be on board with other French and English Canadians, people from Great Britian and the USA. The excursion choices were a treat and the ‘guides’ friendly and knowledgeable. Their local knowledge reflected pride in their contries/cities which we very much liked. For the most part, they went out of their way on each excurison to ensure we had a pleasant day. The highlight for us was the Ebike trip but it was over too soon and could use a bit of ‘tweaking’ for a better day. True, we were perhaps too many people in one group (38). It may have been better in two (or more) groups if sufficient guides were available but all in all, we really enjoyed the Ebike tour. One negative for us was the slight rush in between and during the excurisons but we understand that they wanted to cover as much as possible where we would rather see less but spend more time. While we did not travel with children (and none were on board), we would suggest that theis mode of travel would suit kids to broaden their horizons on other cultures. The Prague extension was a treat. While a rough entry to our downtown hotel due to traffic (again the Marriott), once we settled, in it was perfectly situated to explore the old town and all that it has to offer. We would definitely recommend the Prague extension. Except for the (sometimes) ‘sea of humanity’, it was still a fantastic place to visit. As you can expect, we highly recommend this trip and this company and really found little to no fault. We would definitely take another Scenic crusie to explore other areas of Europe but maybe other parts of the world. Read Less

We were disappointed in this cruise line. We did a river cruise in Europe with Scenic almost a year ago. We were in a 200 cabin (205, 207, 209?). The balcony was pretty useless; would have made more sense if they took out the doors and made it part of the room. If you happen to be on the balcony you could hear conversations from several rooms away. The excursions were mostly great. Their headsets were horrible and desperately needed to be upgraded. The worst part was the food. Trying to serve an entire, albeit small, ship at the same time in the evening is a bad idea. We sometimes had to wait 45 minutes to order, so we were served late. And the food portions were, as some of the Canadians said, quarter sized. No seconds, except dessert. We expected local food, but only got German sausage once. The staff was friendly and some overly so. I expect that was to receive extra tips (included in cruise price). They did work extremely hard. I heard some say the work they were doing was not what they signed up for; bait and switch? Read Less

Family heritage encouraged us to take this river cruise departing budapest hungary, sailing thru austria and ending in nuremberg germany. very nice land tours & ports. Awesome bed. great storage in room. bathroom needs hanging space. one small towel rack to hold 4 towels (layered on top of each other for esthetics) and after use where do you hang 4 towels? Needs hand towel rack as little bitty countertop has no room. our deluxe "balcony" was not really a balcony at all. balcony was actually a space completely part of the regular room that had 2 chairs beside the window. The exterior wall was all window but only the top half rolled down to open air; because this was a river cruise we were requested to use the screen covering if putting window down but, screen was a dark screen and couldn't see out of it so didn't use window opening; deluxe balcony was really a room about 1-1/2 ft wider with a very large window. oh - biggest problem: coming from usa needed us electrical plugs and there were none. fortunately we brought 1 converter but this took forever to charge a cellphone even with usb cord brought from home. there were no usb plugs either. We had 2 cellphones and a waterpik.... also, marketed as luxury cruise with butler for each room and we never saw our butler and bed turn down only happened about 50% of the time. note: of the 140 patrons on board, 54 were american, 60 canadian, rest were australian, china, chile. food, while elegantly presented, was not usa food, unusual offerings that seldom were appetizing as unusual foods (chef was from croatia), very tiny portions, (i'm a small female), no bread and there was no food bars etc. Available between breakfast, lunch of after dinner. one dinner seating which was usually 7-7:30 (varied day to day) which meant you left dinner around 9-9:30 and with no entertainment went to bed with full stomach. Scenic was recommended by friends and travel agents as the best. The ship was both attractive and clean, as well as our cabin. Dining was a pleasant experience with great service and many food selections. Appetizers and entres were attractively presented but as a taste experience were average. Desserts at the service centre along the highway had more visual appeal than anything presented onboard. Food could be view as average. Lounge entertainer David was excellent in his entertainment and most likeable and personable. Service was excellent. Excursions were greatly informative and enjoyable with the exception of Nuremburg. That was partly due to the black history of Nuremburg but largely due to an inexperienced and ineffective guide. This was a great way to explore Hungary, Austria, Germany and Czech Republic, countries we have not previously visited but not one we would repeat. Pleasantly upon return we both found that we lost weight on this cruise, rather than gain the 10 pounds that we were told we would...a testament to the mediocrity of the food! Read Less

Every day since we left, our ship docks next to at least one other. Sometimes there are 3 abreast - this, in the low season. As a result, our view from our balcony (which we paid extra for ~silly us!) is into the window of the cabin of the other ship. So, no view. One night, we were apparently near the exhaust vent of another ship and so for days after, our room and all others on this side smelled of cooking grease. Food is average to poor, you have to eat at 7pm regardless if ypu’d like to eat later, so no opportunity to have a leisurely cocktail hour, most of the towns in between are largely unremarkable, just a means to provide some diversion between the two main cities of interest (in our case, Budapest and Prague). No one on the ship other than the cruise director knows anything about the itinerary, landmarks, upcoming events, so if you can’t find the cruise director, you’re in the dark. There’s about 20 of us in our mid`50s and all have did “never again”. Read Less

Having never considered a River Cruise, we attended an information number night. After learning about Scenic, we spoke with friends who had taken this excursion previously. They all highly recommended that we go. From pick up at the airport to debarkation, everything was first class. The service, dining and excursions went above and beyond anything we imagined. The staff were very friendly and attentive ensuring all of our needs were met (sometimes without even asking). The Cruise Director was very well organized and ensured that everyone was aware of all activities, timelines for returning to the ship and worked tirelessly to accommodate the need of passengers. The group of passengers on board were all adults and everybody went out of their way to get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company. We had a balcony suite which met our needs nicely. We now understand the excitement from our friends when we told the that we were going on this trip. Read Less

This was the biggest trip my husband and I have ever done, both in cost and time. It was worth every penny and seemed at once timeless and over too soon. The scope of experiences, the beauty for all of our senses, the quality of service... everything was so wonderful that I ran out of superlatives. :) Every port held new experiences. We visited sea level up until the mountains. We heard classical and folk music, tasted local foods, wines, cheeses and other delights. We feasted in an ancient castle. We rode bikes in Vienna, and walked about 7 km a day when we chose to. The cabin was well tended as were our every need. The restaurant service was impeccable though the food was sometimes just average there was lots of variety. The Portobello experience was delicious. Overall We had more food, drinks and treats than were good for us I'm sure. I'd travel with SCENIC again in a heartbeat. And I was especially impressed with our Cruise Director Szilvia's efficiency and kindness. Read Less

We choose Scenic for the all-inclusive option, where tips and alcoholic beverages outside of meals are included in the price. We also chose them because of their 5-star rating, as most in the group were seasoned travellers with discriminating tastes. Scenic met our expectations in all respects, with only a few exceptions. The design of the Jewel (not sure about their other ships) is flawed in the sense that the two most expensive suites, the Royal Panoramic Suites at the stern, are located above the engines. A member of our group staying here. The vibration and noise is quite disturbing for guests sleeping in these quarters when the ship is cruising at night which is fairly frequent. The suites are beautiful, with full length windows on two sides. This turns the suite into a sauna on a sunny day and unfortunately the air-conditioning only functioned in the entry way of the suite, not the whole suite. The windows can be opened but while in port, the suite filled up quickly with flies. Scenic should indicate on their ship maps where the engines are located so guests can be warned in advance of where the noise will most likely occur. Our cabin was midship and so quiet you didn't even know the ship was moving. There is no motion at all on river cruise ships, making it an extremely comfortable cruise. Wait staff and butlers go above and beyond, as do the cleaning staff, kitchen and our cruise director, Tadei. They can't do enough for you. In spite of the design shortcomings in the Royal Panoramic Suite, we still gave it full marks, as it would be impossible to surpass every other aspect of this trip. Read Less

Was told it was 5 star but it was let down by poor cold or inedible food . On the whole the ship is great , drinks ,staff ,trips and entertainment all very good especially the cruise director who was brilliant . Cabins very well appointed and places visited very good . Would recommend if the food had been up to standard but it certainly wasn’t a standard we had expected. The trips were extremely well organised with lots of special extras , the guides all very well informed . The staff on board friendly and helpful and the evening entertainment was all local people from wherever we where. The drinks are extensive with small fridge in cabins restocked daily. However the cruise was badly let down by the food , even the special dining at portobello and table Rive was not brilliant . This all spoiled what would have been a brilliant cruise. Read Less

This was a great cruise. We enjoyed the excursions, the services on board, the quality and quantity of the food and the staff. We made friends on board which we will likely keep contact with for years to come. The free time was nice so we could explore on our own without any pressure. We enjoy the tour guides in all the walk-around experiences in Budapest, Osijek, Belgrade, Varna and Bucharest. The entertainment on the ship, the special meal in the portabellos were most enjoyable. We were fortunate to have great weather the whole time. The home visit in Osijek was interesting as we were able to spend time with a local family. We have no complaints. We are pleased to be able to recommend this cruise to others who are interessted in doing a cruise. It was fun to see the Black Sea and to visit the coastline. Thank you. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was advertised as 5 star, everything was 5 star except the food, which was awful. The standard of the food was unacceptable for a cruise of this quality - one and a half hour wait for the main course, inedible raw tough meat that had supposedly been cooked for 8 hours, half empty buffets, lemon meringue pie with the uncooked egg whites raw on top, to name but some of the problems. Dining in Portobello's and the Captains dinner was no better. The Captain's dinner starter being scallops, which turned out to be one scallop, which when cut into it was raw so not eaten , lobster came , looked good but was once small piece of lobster and the rest of the shell was filled with mushrooms in cheese sauce. The waiting staff were the ones who had to face the customer but the problem was not theirs - the kitchen just could not cope. Food is a very important feature in a holiday of this calibre and this was not up to standard. It was such a shame as all other aspects of the cruise were perfect -good cabins, trips, chauffeur to airport etc, but the kitchen let the rest of the ship down. Read Less

This was a 'special' Mary Berry Telegraph cruise which set off on 22 November 2017, not on the 17 November. We chose this cruise on the recommendation of our friends who are platinum Scenic travellers; they said that previously the food was always amazing and the excursions brilliant. The ship is lovely, as are the cabins; they are spacious and light and the cabin balconies are just wonderful. The staff are also superb, with one or two exceptions. However, some things were disappointing: Logistics: Approximately 100 of us arrived at the same time in Budapest airport. We were greeted by two reps and herded together in the arrivals area until everyone had been rounded up. We were then shown to our coaches for the transfer to the ship. There was no-one on the coaches to explain what was happening or to provide assistance. We suggest that people are shown to the bus in smaller groups so that they can sit in comfort whilst others arrive. It would also have been nice to have been provided with a bottle of water and a guide to tell us what was happening ie how long the transfer would be etc. Most of the passengers were pensioners and had been up since at least 0400, so a drink would have been welcome. We were offered lunch once we arrived on the ship, the lunch was fine. However, there were long delays waiting for the buffet to be replenished. On the return journey we had to leave suitcases outside our rooms at 0730 despite the fact that we weren't leaving the ship until 1045. That meant getting up very early. Excursions: Budapest City tour was fine. There just wasn't enough time in Budapest. Schonbrunn Palace was stunning. However, there was virtually no free time to look around independently or to peruse the Christmas market. The return coach was twelve minutes late collecting us - that just rubbed salt in the wound. We could easily have had more time at the palace if we had left the ship a little earlier. Spanish Riding School: The visit was in the afternoon which meant that it was impossible to see the horses rehearsing or performing. Cesky Krumlov: A fantastic day out! It snowed and we had a perfect amount of time to visit this amazing Unesco heritage town. Although the lunch was rather grim. Entertainment: Piano recital was wonderful - we hadn't realised that a virtuoso pianist could produce such astounding music. Orchestra/Ballet/Opera evening was perfectly pleasant. However, it would have been wonderful to have visited the real thing rather than these pale imitations. On-board entertainment was fine if you like thigh slapping, lederhosen dancers; jolly accordion players and traditional folk singers. On-board pianist was very good and provided some lovely background and dance music. Food: This was really disappointing. Remember our friends had 'sold' us the holiday on the basis of the fab food. Dinner in La Rive on our one permitted evening was very good. The rest of the food was OK, but nothing special. Mary Berry: was as lovely as you might expect; perfectly charming and very approachable. However, what ever made anyone think that a boat load of pensioners would want her latest book 'Household Tips & Tricks' in which Mary shares those little domestic secrets that she has gleaned over many years. Did it not cross anyone's mind that the passengers had all lived a long time and had probably gleaned most of the same tips and tricks. Mary Berry is a renowned cook. We were expecting a cookery book! And then there were the mince pies made with minced beef instead of mincemeat. How was the poor pastry chef to know that there is an important difference between mincemeat and minced meat. Our friends were embarrassed because we had booked the holiday on their recommendation and it didn't come up to standard - even the Cruise Director said more than once that this was not a typical Scenic cruise. We were sad for our friends because we really wanted the cruise to live up to their expectations too. Read Less
