We chose Scenic as we were looking for a cruise that was 100% all inclusive. It turned out to be the right decision as we never once had to pull out our wallet. The only additional cost was a massage! Scenic lived up to everything we expected. Rooms were excellent and the addition of a small balcony was great on mornings when we wanted room service rather than eating at the restaurant. Food was very good with incredible selection. Tours had enough variety that it appeared there was something for everyone. For people considering a river cruise for the first time here are some pointers that I was not aware of and had I known it would have made the experience even better: 1. Don't take the top deck for a room if you are travelling in the summer. Air Conditioning works better on the lower level. Rooms closer to the back of the boat are louder due to the engine. If you like white noise then they are great. Rooms closer to the front you hear everyone passing your room. 2. Do your research on destinations along the river you are cruising on along with tours. Some of our tours were two hours bus ride before you got to your destination. My assumption was destinations would be a virtual walk off the boat. (I understand the Rhone is more like this). When it was it was a walk off the boat such as Durnstein it was fantastic! 3. Compare docking stops. On the Danube we sailed by Passau. It looked fantastic but Scenic does not stop there...… Viking does. 4. Understand how often you can be up on the sun deck on the river cruise. Depending on low bridges or locks you are limited to just the lounge area below. This is when you really want a balcony ….. or pick a different river. The channel between the Danube and Nuremburg there are many locks. Although interesting we loved being up top so that is a disappointment. 5. On Scenic you would do a tour and the boat would continue down the Danube and you would pick it up later in the day. One day we passed on the tours and enjoyed just cruising. Again look at the schedule..... this may have been my favourite day! Ultimately identify how much you want to be busy or relax and choose the right cruise based on this. 6. Beware that the success of a cruise can be very dependent not only on the staff but also who you have the luck of cruising with. With a minimum of less than 200 people if the group is fun..... you will have fun. We met many ships along our cruise and it became obvious we were very lucky with the group we had. 7. Cruise success is also dependent on whether the water is at the right height. Check months and get some statistics from your travel agents to try and ensure that you will be on the water for 100% of your trip...… or book last minute like we did. Read Less

We chose this cruise based on the marketing done by scenic and had expectations of a five star luxury cruise. This was not the case, the air conditioning on the ship was inconsistent in the lounge and the bar service was slow with inattentive servers. The first time we called our “butler”, there was no answer. Apparently, they are also waiters and thus not always readily available. The housekeeping section was excellent with the cabin clean and well stocked. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly, and entertainment focused on local culture themes. The guides on the port excursions were excellent and the food was good. The special concert was a memorable moment and thoroughly enjoyed. We had an issue on an excursion in Vienna. As per the daily itinerary we received, we boarded bus number 4 for 9 am. Apparently, the cruise director had changed the bus destinations and made an announcement in the lounge at 845. We were unaware that we should meet in the lounge, as this was not on our itinerary. Normally we would have been understanding with this miscommunication, except that there had been plenty of opportunities for the cruise director to ensure all guests were informed. There was no sign on the bus identifying the destination; no lists or number of passengers were provided to the guides to ensure all passengers were on board the appropriate bus. Ironically, we had actually passed by the cruise director when exiting the ship. When the guide contacted the cruise director to explain the issue, his response was to tell us to take a cab and bring him receipts. Personally, I expected better support from scenic. Upon our return to the ship the cruise director asked if we had receipts and eventually apologized. The issue was not the cost of the cab and entrance fee it was about being in a foreign country with no cellphone and having to solve this issue with absolutely no assistance from scenic. We did eventually find the correct excursion however scenic had not even contacted the guide to be on the lookout for us. The purpose of booking the scenic cruise was to avoid having to travel on our own and enjoy a stress free holiday with included excursions and no worries. This was definitely not the case. Two days later we did receive a written apology from the cruise director and an on-board credit. We enjoyed the cruise on the Danube, however we will not be recommending scenic to our friends based on the poor customer service by the cruise director. The onus was put on the passenger to inquire about last minute itinerary changes and very little communication/info was provided in advance. Read Less

We chose this cruise to get a good overview of the countries along the upper Danube. We arrived in Budapest a day prior to embarkation, in order to have more time to explore the city. We stayed at the Marriott, which is the preferred hotel for Scenic. We were picked up at the airport and transferred to the hotel, and then picked up at the hotel and driven to the Crystal. Everything went so smoothly, once we arrived, we were invited to enjoy a drink in the lounge and get our room cards when ready. This was a great way to avoid a lineup of everyone in the lobby. The food and service on the ship was excellent (although my mom, with whom I was travelling, felt that the food she had on a Caribbean cruise with Celebrity was just a touch better). The choices for excursions were plentiful and varied, although I found that with a few of them, there was either not enough free time, or too much free time, depending on how large the area was to explore. In Vienna, we ended up taking the hop on, hop off bus tour in order to see more of the city, as we had free time, and one of the stops was right in front of our ship at the pier. Our cabin (110) was fine for sleeping, although the shower was far too small. I can't imagine how a larger person could even move! The bed was comfortable and the cabin crew came in twice a day, once in the morning to clean and then again to turn down and leave the next day's schedule. Disembarkation was also quite smooth, and they even provided a tour of Nuremberg which was not listed as part of the trip. The also dropped us at our privately arranged hotel at the end of the tour, which was great, as we had expected we would have to arrange our own transport from the ship. Read Less

Scenic provides a high end cruising experience and if you need to, start saving your money and book a cruise! We chose Scenic at the suggestion of friends, with whom we travelled. As people who have never been on a cruise (either river cruise or ocean cruise), we were excited about the all-inclusive nature of Scenic’s cruises. We were not disappointed. From embarkation until the penultimate day of the cruise, we had an excellent time. The boat itself had a luxurious feel. All the common areas were very clean and comfortable. Our room was spacious and well appointed. But what made the cruise exceptional were the staff. Everyone from the room attendants, Butlers, serving staff, bartenders, Hotel Manager, and Restaurant Manager were all friendly, kind, and helpful. They were able to accommodate dietary issues without hesitation. If the room attendant saw that you prefer certain items in the minibar, they would ensure you were properly stocked for the next day. We appreciated the hard work the staff did to keep the boat maintained at a high quality during the cruise. The level of detail from the staff was astounding. We will always remember the staff with fond memories. Shoutouts to Marica, Zania, Sijlvia, Snez, Milan, Dejon, Branislav, Vuk, Martin, Marko, Mauricio, Nemanja, Milos, Alex and Stan! They were the stars of the cruise. Special mention to Birgitta, our guide in the Wachau Valley; Wanda, our guide in Cesky Krumlov; and Dominic, our guide in Nuremberg. As with most things, there were issues that were out of Scenic’s control. While river levels were good, there were issues with the lock system on the Danube. The Cruise Director, Beate, was able to troubleshoot issues with ease; however, we took issue with her plans for disembarkation. High water levels on the Danube meant that we could not make it to Nuremberg. Instead, we were let off about an hour away. We understood why we had to disembark outside of Nuremberg, but we took issue with how the Cruise Director planned transportation for those who were to stay in Nuremberg after the cruise. Beate scheduled us and five other couples to disembark at 7am and take a coach ride to the Nuremberg airport, as we assumed some of the couples would fly out that day. From there, we were to make our own way into the city of Nuremberg. Whilst on the coach, we learned that none of the six couples had flights from Nuremberg and that the Cruise Director essentially kicked us off the boat at 7am and had us escorted to the airport when none of us had flights. We were so disappointed. Other passengers headed to Munich or Prague were able to remain on the boat until late morning. Fortunately, our guide Dominic decided to bypass the airport and take us all into Nuremberg city centre. From there, we checked into our hotel. In addition, Dominic had time to give us a tour of Nuremberg’s Old Town. It was early morning on a bank holiday, so it was like we had the city to ourselves. What was such a disappointing end to a fabulous cruise was saved by Dominic. Read Less

Had been on Ama (wonderful), Uniworld (good) and wanted to try Scenic. Also wanted Danube cruise that went to Salzburg. The service was excellent, room kept very clean, and excursions good. Wine far better than we were expecting but food was a disappointment. Beate, the cruise director went out of her way to help everyone but she was leaving at the end of our cruise for a private job opportunity. Some of the excursions groups were too big and they should have hired another guide or 2 to keep the groups smaller. The new system for the headset didn’t work well all the time, but that was due to too large groups. The biggest disappointment was the food. Breakfast was a 10 but lunch and dinner fell short. Sometimes the food was lukewarm. The veal schnitzel was almost inedible. There were no wow factors. The salmon and tenderloin that you could always order were under seasoned. The gala night had Canadian lobster tail and beef Wellington and it was very good. Then the closing night was turkey. The turkey was good but it doesn’t seem like a luxury dinner on the last night of a luxury cruise. They could Improve by doing a grill on deck with bratwurst and cheeseburgers! Soups were generally pretty good. Desserts were average except for ice cream. We are excellent home cooks so food is very important to us. I will stick with Ama for future cruises. Or try Crystal. But Scenic and Uniworld are out. If you are a foodie, go with Ama. I’ve attached pictures of menus and wine lists and daily plans. I wish I could have received this information in advance so hope it helps others. Mark, the musician, was excellent. The dancers were ok. The concert in Vienna was very nice. Portobellos had excellent appetizers and desserts but mediocre entree. Have to submit photos separately because they don’t attach from an iPad. Read Less

The food is better on the large ships (Celebrity Cruises). One night they had a special dinner with Lobster and Scallops and no one at the table liked the scallops and the lobster tail was very small. Food could be better. All the staff on the ship were amazing !!! They did an excellent job and were more then helpful. From the Captain right down to the man who cleaned our room. All the staff were wonderful. The tours were very nice and the buses were great with washrooms on board. They could also have better entertainment. The best nights we had in the lounge were the Disco night and the night they played Trivia. That was fun ! Read Less

Suggested by my travel agent. I also liked the fact once you paid your final payment that it covered everything! Excursions, alcoholic beverages and gratuities! The staff of the Jewel were absolutely phenomenal. Food was awesome as there were so many choices from fine dining to a la carte to buffet. Ship was nice and clean. Nightly local entertainment in the Lounge was the perfect finale to that particular port and a great way to enjoy a cocktail and wind down. Shore excursions were informative. There were some issues with my tech device to hear the commentary from our guides. Guides were local to the area so they could add a lot more flavour to the commentary and answer questions. You could hear their passion! Prague was a great "tack on" to the cruise. Well worth the little bit extra. Lots of walking. For fit bit enthusiasts, around 15000 to 20000 steps per day in Prague. Wear comfy shoes, cobblestones can be tricky. If I was going across the "pond" again, I would upgrade to first class air. 8 to 9 hours is a long time so you want comfort. Direct flights are undoubtedly your best bet. Read Less

We chose the 14 day river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest with 3 days in Paris (Westin Hotel) at the start and 3 days in Prague (Art Deco Imperial Hotel) at the end. This was our first river cruise but we have been on 5 ocean cruises in the last 3 years. Scenic was pitched to us as 5 star all the way and it simply did not live up to its reputation. The Paris and Prague portions were excellent with great tour directors, hotels and excursions. We had free time and could walk most places. The high speed train from Paris to Amsterdam was excellent with good food and drink service as well as a comfortable seat. The transfer to Prague was via a long coach ride and we got stuck in two traffic jams due to accidents. A train transfer should be considered by Scenic. The cruise itself was underwhelming. The cabin was small but well appointed and comfortable. Our room steward was phenomenal and kept our room clean and well stocked including the mini bar. The balcony was nice but the window was loud to open and took about 15 seconds each way. Unfortunately due to the vast number of ships sailing this route we ended up tied alongside another ship for half of our time in Port. This meant that you couldn't really use the balcony and needed to keep the curtains closed which meant that you basically had an inside room. Balcony was a waste of time money. The food was a mixed bag. Both breakfast and lunch was served buffet style in the main dining room with an option for a la carte from a menu. The layout of the buffet was terrible with people not knowing which way to go and line ups for omelettes etc longer than I've experienced before and there was only 160+ onboard. Breakfast food was quite good but lunch here was not worth it and we generally went for the light lunch in the lounge upstairs which was less crowded. Dinner was great some nights including Portobellos and average some others as was the service. Definitely not 5 star dining and certainly the worst food overall that we have had on any cruise. The drink service was excellent including bar snacks before dinner. The excursions were also a mixed bag and as usual dependant on the tour guide. They varied from poor to very good but at this price point you expect excellent across the board. We discovered that the "Sundowner" excursion included in our package was only going to be drinks and snacks on the sun deck and not in a more exotic location as on other Scenic cruises. It never occurred anyways because shortly before that day they ran the stern of the ship aground briefly during the night, waking everyone up and damaging the propeller and other parts of the propulsion system. This necessitated placing the ship in dry dock for one day. The cruise director did a great job of rescheduling most of the excursions but some people missed out and we spent a lot of hours on a coach killing time until the ship was back in the water. The Captain, basically non communicative during the entire cruise, gave a poor and perhaps dishonest explanation of what occurred and why which satisfied few onboard. The "Sundowner" event never happened and was never mentioned again. Be aware that this cruise goes through 68 locks which are interesting at first and during dinner but not as much during the night after going through 40 already. We found a few crew members both unhappy and rude which we have never experienced before on any cruise. The majority however were very friendly and accommodating. The entertainment on board each evening was listed as live but was generally a DJ. One of our group complained one night and he switched to playing and singing live for a while which was quite good. The local entertainment they brought onboard several times in the afternoon was always excellent and we could have used more of that. Read Less

Very comprehensive tours with excellent guides. However one criticism is that their walking pace was a little to fast for me age group they were leading. The app on the smart phone had several technical difficulties. The two external musical events in Budapest and Vienna were superb and very professional. Venues exceptional. The whole experience reflected the culture of the countries. On board entertainment was equally memorable. Food of a very high standard, good choices. journey arrangements good excepting at Budapest some confusion on arrival at Budapest airport as no one there to meet us. I rang the help number given only to receive a recorded message in what I presumed to be Hungarian!! Overall a most enjoyable and memorable holiday. Thank you o very much to everyone involved. We have tried many other river cruises companies; SCENIC is the best one so far. When it says EVERYTHING INCLUDED, everything is indeed included: no surprise such as port fees, beverages (top quality brands & excellent wines), tips for staff/guides, excursions etc.. You do not spend any extra penny if you wish (besides merchandise on board or extra tips for great staff). Dining is super:BREAKFAST- many varieties of meats, cheese, vegetables, eggs, juice, breads (to die for), a la carte items such as lamb chop, grilled steak, different types of eggs benedict; LUNCH: 2 soups every day, cold dishes, hot dishes, so many choices and not the same ones during the whole cruise, the 2 ice creams are so exquisite; DINNER: every day menu is a surprise and delight to your taste buds (we consider the chef, Milos, and his staff did a marvelous job). The wine choices by the Maitre D' were more than excellent (are you listening, other River Cruise Companies!!) Overall, the whole crew, staff and management work like a well-oiled machinery complex: we are delighted to see the little detail each wait staff is performing to the next level- which shows the degree of careful training from management- Kudos to SCENIC. Minor Problem: Scenic is introducing a new app/program you can download on your smart phones or tablets (you may borrow one of theirs) to listen to all commentaries during excursion, self-guide tours, description of cruise itself while on rivers etc... As in any new app, this one was not ready for the "grand opening" which means half of the time it did not work as described. Scenic management needs to be aware of the frustration caused to their guests. Read Less

Scenic left no stone un-turned. The wine selection was excellent, the food was excellent and the cabin was super comfortable. Two weeks went by in a flash. The wait staff in the lounge and in the dining room were always smiling, always willing to please and very friendly. We especially were impressed with Dejan in the dining room and Richy and Cynthia. Nemanja was a great waiter in the lounge. Marko was our butler and sooo good. Marina, the assistant hotel manager knew our name on day 2 and always addressed us as such. Giovanni was a treat- so efficient-so charming. The excursions were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from all over Australia, Canada and the UK.. I really hope we get another opportunity to do this again. It was an amazing experience. Read Less

Exceptional service, the best we've ever had, and we've been on over 20 cruises. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the crew. The cruise director insisted on carrying the 2 cups of tea i was taking to my cabin, even though she had just come back from a hike with other guests, and still had her coat and bag on. The hotel manager was everywhere, greeting guests, assisting crew, assisting chef, always there. The crew were clearly happy to be there. Attention to detail was incredible. People with gluten allergies didn't need to ask for anything. They had different freshly made gluten free bread provided to them each meal without asking, and recommendations made to them at meal time. The food was fabulous, with interesting local dishes added to the menus. Any type of drink you desired all day long, and nothing measured if you wanted free poured. There were quality wines, something I was concerned about, since it said local wines, and were were travelling through Germany, and I drink red. Really good selection of reds from all over Europe. My husband likes single malt scotch, and there were at least 3 good quality ones, not just the gold/blue label and blends offered on most ships. Outstanding entertainment and shore excursions. Everything was first class, nothing was second rate. Everything was included. The only trip we picked that we weren't fond of was the Loisium wine tour we picked. It was a little Disney'ish, and the wine tasting wasn't up to much. The views along the river were wonderful, as were the lovely ports were stopped in. We stayed in an river view cabin, on the lowest deck. The room was very small, so not really comfortable to spend a lot of time in. The lounge made up for this. It was the living room of the ship, and very comfortable to sit in to read, chat with other guests, etc. The ship itself was lovely. Crew were always cleaning, painting, up keeping all the time. Unfortunately we were sailing in an unlucky year as 2018 saw one of the driest condition on the rivers in 100 years. So we weren’t able to sail on our assign ship the Opal. Our embarkation didn’t happen on Oct 24 as scheduled because no ship could reach Budapest. We were able to finally board the Jewel on Oct 28 in Regensburg. The ship was comfortable and it was smooth sailing, we had a good crew. The cabin was small but clean and comfortable, the little balcony was nice when we could open our curtains. Our butler wasn’t the most attentive as we hardly saw him, when we did he was a bit argumentative although reasonably nice. The food and drink selections were great, the service in the dining room/lounge etc was superb. The onboard entertainment was very nice and we enjoyed it. The ports and shore excursions were also very nice. The only thing negative to say about those is related to the drought complications and the fact that to go to Salzburg we had to do another 31/2 hours each way by bus, so way too much time spend in the bus and our visit in Salzburg was very short and felt rushed. We made used of the ebikes once, and it wasn’t a good experience because my husband fell and we were forced to return to the ship. When back there I asked if they had a first aid kit. Unfortunately even though they had one it was quite lacking in supplies such as peroxide to clean wounds and antiseptic cream for example. They could really improve in the stocking of their first aid supplies. We were given assurance that there would be compensation for the days we missed on the boat. We were told that we would get a letter within 7days of our return providing the final amount we are able to claim. We have been back now 9 days and are still waiting for a sign of the letter. You can really judge a company by the way they handle a difficult situation. My experience, and others, on this trip was that Scenic handled this absolutely terribly and conducted the tour at the most cheapest cost possible to themselves. They didn’t deliver a luxury experience, even though they still had the opportunity and facilities to do so, instead they provided terrible service with really cheap food (often buffets) and really cheap wine. I thought after their 16 million dollar class action case they lost last year that they would have improved their service, but they have obviously learnt nothing from past mistakes. We were advised by email on 19th October (5 days before our cruise, and we were already in Europe) that we would have to do land arrangements for four nights before joining the Scenic Jewel (instead of Scenic Opal) in Regensburg on 28th October. We were not advised of an option to cancel the tour. We were then emailed on 22nd October advising which hotels we would be staying at. Still no option to cancel. On the 24th October in Budapest we met our Tour Director, and was given an update on the trip. At that stage we found out that there were 109 people booked for this cruise but only 65 showed up in Budapest and 44 people cancelled and didn’t travel. After speaking with people on the tour we found out that scenic contacted some people before they left Australia and gave them an option to cancel, and didn’t bother to contact other passengers at all (including us, except for an email advising a change to the itinerary, but not advising any option to cancel). We were informed that the river was the lowest in over 100 years by the tour director, so obviously scenic knew well in advance that this trip was going to be affected and yet we were not advised. Looking at reviews of previous scenic passengers that cruised this itinerary this year, there were many disruptions, so scenic should have advised us well before we left Australia and given us an option to cancel like they did for only select passengers. We totally understand that scenic can not help the water levels being so low that they can’t operate the cruise at certain sections of the river, however, they knew the river conditions well in advance of the cruise as they’d had problems all summer. They should have given everyone, not just a select few, the option the cancel before leaving Australia. I wonder if they went ahead with this cruise because they had a travel agent famil group booked on this cruise? I telephoned and emailed Scenic in Australia from Budapest, after our tour briefing, however they were not of any help at all and just gave a generic reply to claim for compensation when we return home. Rather than going into a long letter, I’ve itemised below the terrible experience that we had from Scenic considering that Scenic has advertised this “Luxury River Cruise” as an all inclusive (spirits, wines, soft drinks, tea, coffee and mini bar), with anytime dining. - we were advised in writing by the tour director that we were allowed up to two glasses of wine, beer or soft drink with dinner and one glass with lunch during the first four days of our trip which was conducted by land (hotels and buses) - Even though scenic had the access to provide spirits, wine, coffee, tea, afternoon tea...etc at the hotels we were staying at, scenic would not include this for us and we were told we would have to pay for these ourselves. - The quality of the buffet food and wine we received at the hotels was of a very poor quality. The food was like something you’d get at an RSL club and the wines were really cheap and nasty. We stayed at very nice hotels, but received the cheapest quality of food and wine. - We finally boarded the scenic jewel in Regensburg, on 28th October. - We were onboard the ship for 10 nights. During this time, there was no anytime dining in the crystal dining room (as advertised by scenic) instead we were restricted to sometimes late dining times and the waiters were always in a hurry to get us fed and out of the restaurant. - Portobellos was only open 2 nights out of the 10! Why?? - For 8 out of 10 nights on the cruise there was only one dining option, and that was a fixed time, which is totally opposite to what scenic advertise. - There was absolutely no drinks or food service on the top deck during the entire cruise, which is completely the opposite experience of friends who have done this cruise before. I know there was part of the cruise when the top deck was closed when going under bridges, but we received no service there at all the entire cruise. Even when we docked in Amsterdam, we saw Viking and Avalon ships beside us serving their passengers drinks and food on their top decks.....our ship was completely dead in atmosphere and service. - The food quality on the ship was very “hit and miss”. Sometimes the food was very nice, other days they food was just terrible and quite often cold. - The cakes in the river cafe were a generic shop bought cake that was often stale by being cut and left in the display cabinet. - We were never offered a packed picnic lunch, as advertised by scenic, if we didn’t want to do an organised tour and just do our own sightseeing. - The entertainment onboard the ship was really amateur and something you’d expect on a budget cruise, not a luxury cruise. Cruise was supposed to be a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam, however, low water levels resulted in being bussed 800 km of the 1400 km trip. Scenic was not, of course, responsible for the low water, however, they almost certainly knew well before the Oct. 16/18 start date that they would likely have to bus passengers for more than 1/2 of the trip. They therefore should have cancelled the trip as they knew they would be unable to provide the product promised, or even a reasonable facsimile of it. This was a very expensive bus tour. We were put up at a hotel in Budapest for 2 days before being bussed over 300 km to board our ship. We were scheduled to be on the Crystal but instead boarded the Pearl (sister ship) but for only 2 days then bussed over 300 +km to board the Opal which we were on for 6 (or maybe 7) days then bussed for about 200 km to board the Amber which we were on for 3 days. Breakfast & lunch were, of course, buffet and were good. Dinners were, however, inconsistent. Beef not cooked correctly, entrees not hot. Service was good ie. prompt. Not the over the top friendly we're used to on ocean cruises. Could be because the crew was eastern European & it's not their culture. Very little on board entertainment but none really expected. Nice comfortable lounge. Read Less

Chose this cruise to see the scenery, castles, and towns as we cruised along the Danube and the Rhine and the fact we would not have to pack for all 15 days. Actually we only cruised 1 day total in the daytime, the rest was a series of long bus trips, 3 ship changes and a few night in hotels and some cruising at night. The Ruby was the last ship but no space to enter all 3. This was all due to low water levels in the rivers which Scenic knew about long before our departure date but failed to inform us. We were not given the option to cancel or change sailing dates. I tried to correspond with Scenic prior to our departure when I suspected a problem, but had no response. The city excursions were good and we had very good local guides. These were hard to enjoy after our long bus trips and room changes. The buses used for both the excursions and the shuttle service between port had poor visibility out of the side windows because of reflection. The washroom in the buses ranged from filthy to poor. One of the rest stops along the way was disgusting and we had to pay to use any of the Rest Rooms (WC's) - something Scenic should have covered. The main topic of conversation on the trip was how to get compensation from Scenic for our lost holiday not how we were enjoying the trip. There was little enjoyment just frustration on this trip. We are keeping in touch with each other to see what Scenic will offer us for not providing what we had signed up for. Read Less

We chose the Scenic line thru a recommondation from our travel agent and also friends. There were low river issues before we left, but there was no talk of postponing or cancelling. We started off our holiday with a 10 day bus tour of Poland. We chose to pick up the river cruise in Budapest to have a relaxing 2 weeks after busing for 10 days. We were on the Pearl for 4-5 days, switched to the Opal for a few days, then bused to a location, missing a major portion of the cruise we where looking forward to. Then switched ships to the Amber. It was not relaxing after the first 4 days, Constantly packing up, unpacking and meeting new crews. The Positives: Each ship was a little nicer each time The Crew was wonderful and accommodating The Amber crew was really taxed with cleaning up after the guests switching to the Opal and preparing to accommodate the Opal guests. We all needed a holiday after that. Read Less

Water levels were low so we ‘swapped’ ships twice. Started on Scenic Pearl, then Scenic Opal then Scenic Amber. Opal and Amber were newer ships so larger rooms. Service was excellent. Food great. Tours organized very well and cruise director Andreea was amazing. The swaps were handled very well and pretty painlessly for us, with the exception we had to pack up twice but all luggage was handl d by the crew and in our rooms when we reached the new ship. Weather for October was well above normal so we were able to st on the top deck as we crises te rivers. Rm 234 at te back of the ship was very noisy on the Pearl but not so on the newer Opal ad Amber. Etertanmet rought on board was ver good. String quartet delightful. Would have enjiyed ports more had we been able to dock closer to town centres but low water levels found us needing to shuttle into centre of towns. Would definitely travel wt Scenic again. Read Less

Gems of the Danube river cruise (my husband and I were actual paying cruisers on the Jasper just 11 days ago. We were not compensated in any way to write this review) We did online research of several cruise lines. We were particularly looking at the excursions offered on various cruise lines. We felt Scenic offered a good variety of choices. Some active choices and some less active choices depending on how you're feeling. As expected the excursions were well thought out and executed. When traveling to a particular location we were aboard Volvo coaches. Very nice. Everything on the ship was done on time! Including embarkment and disembarkment, excursions, meals, entertainment, etc. Very nice. I can't say enough about the ship staff/crew. Super friendly! Every time we passed a staff member or had an encounter with one they smiled and greeted us. They genuinely seemed happy to be doing their job. We met some very interesting crew members. Funny and entertaining. Our cruise director was Richard from Yorkshire and he was so funny. He never got flustered either. Each room has a butler. The name of our butler was Graykor and he was very attentive. If you called him with a need he was at your door in a mater of minutes. The Hotel Manager on our ship was Marco and he assured that everything ran smoothly. And let us not forget the bartender. His name was Mikol (pronounced Me-Hi) and he was so funny. We loved getting to know him. I elected to have an optional massage during out first day of cruising to work out the knots from our traveling. The massage therapist did not disappoint. He gave an excellent deep tissue massage. Ahhhhh And the fee was no more then I would have paid here at home. The food! Oh the food. I miss it already. Excellent regional food. Buffet (excellent buffet food) or menu ordering for breakfast and lunch. And a fabulous menu of choices every night. The food and wine were paired as well. Twice during the cruise we received an invitation to a special dinner: Portobellos with restaurant manager Predrag Acimovic, and Table La Rive (for Diamond Deck cruisers) with Executive Chef Antonio Jones. An amazing dining experience with multiple courses. We really enjoyed the nightly entertainment too. Hungarian folk dancers, Viennese Waltz Dancers, Decades Disco with Enzo, Schuplattler Dancers, Trivia Challenge night, Music and dancing every evening throughout the cruise with Enzo at the piano. Last but not lease we made some wonderful friends and exchanged contact information. You know it's a wonderful vacation when you come home with new friends! I highly recommended Scenic Cruise Lines. It met and exceeded our expectations. I realize I used a lot of adjectives & exclamation points - but I'm still enjoying the wonderful memories we made on such a fun cruise! Read Less

We had seen ads and decided to check out a Scenic presentation. We discovered a hidden gem in the sea of river cruise options. We knew we had stumbled on to something when we discovered that booking went quickly 18 months before departure. Scenic has thought of everything, and I mean everything. Everything is included. Drinks top shelve, meals gourmet that's all meals, professional and friendly staff made this fabulous trip even better. The excursions were all incredible. One in particular was the performance at Palais Leichtenstein, a beautiful palace complete with renaissance art. We sipped champagne and listen to an orchestra in a beautiful room. It was like going back in time. Can't say enough positive things about the rooms, sumptuous and well designed, the food, delicious and varied as was the great wine, the hardworking staff, particularly our tour director, and the excellent entertainment both on board and off as well as the beautiful picture perfect stops along the cruise This was a dream vacation and we are so happy we had a chance to experience Scenic. My wife and I are already thinking about our next river cruise with Scenic! Thanks for such an enriching experience which we will not forget Read Less

We choice Scenic cruise lines because of the amenities that the cruise line offers- an all inclusive vacation with no stress! We were greeted at the airport and everything from there until we came home was orchestrated to perfection! We spent 2 days in Budapest before the cruise started. Communication from Scenic personnel was top notch! There was never a question about what was happening next. All of the staff were polite and friendly, funny and caring. Richard, our cruise director, was knowledgeable about every stop and knew what was important for us to know. The lounge staff were great- they got to know the passengers and their drink preferences. Sonja, Putua,Michka were a few of the staff we impressed with. Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. The food selection was awesome, prepared just the way you wanted. Port and shore excursions were well planned and the tour guides were all very pleasant and knowledgeable. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and without incident! We were greeted with a warm wash cloth and glass of champagne the first night, and daily upon return from our shore excursions there was always someone at the door, greeting us, with a tray of snacks or drinks and with a welcome back did you enjoy your trip? We would absolutely recommend this cruise, cruise line and are planning out next trip! Read Less

Our scenic adventure started with a driver waiting for us at Budapest airport who dropped us at Marriott. Great hotel good location. Two pre cruise days in Budapest. So much much to see and all of it walkable. Scenic picked up our luggage first then later transferred us to Scenic Ruby. Very efficient and quick process. We had a royal balcony suite on the ruby. Spacious, comfortable bed, large bathroom, plenty of storage for clothing, and separate lounges area w/small couch and two chairs. We were very happy with the size of the suite for our 15 day journey. Daily laundry service was an unexpected bonus. Put out your bag of clothes in the morning, and they are returned clean, folded and pressed in the afternoon. Though we did not use the butler service much, they were quick to respond when we called. Due to low water levels we had to change ships once after Melk. The staff on both Ruby and Jade made it so seamless, it was no issues what so ever. The daily choice of activites were excellent. We did bike rides, city tours, and more. Scenic really caters to all activity levels. Our tour guides in Salzburg and in Cologne were boring, so we set out on our own to explore. Wished we had more time to explore some of the Salzburg. The staff on both Ruby and Jade were quite honestly outstanding. From housekeeping who kept our suite spotless, to the wait staff in the dining room, all top notch. Food in the dining room was really quite good. My husband especially enjoyed the fresh cookie selection available all day every day next to that great coffee machine in the lounge. Alex our crises director was entertaining and informative, and we looked forward to the port talks each night, as well as his insightful presentations on the history and culture of the areas we cruised through. Each day he steered us to the right buses, or activities, and was always on hand to answer any questions we had for him. I really enjoyed the fact that I didn’t have to plan anything...we just had to choose what our activity was for the following day. We very much enjoyed the wonderful fellow cruisers on the boat. We are in our late 50’s early 60’s, so we were part of the younger crowd. But what a great mix of people. We also had on board two folks from National Geographic. Susan was the photographer who was there to share technique’s and help hone skills. Mark was there to share with us the history, culture and politics of the regions we were sailing through. Both were such a great addition to the cruise. We ended the cruise in Amsterdam, and spent two days exploring that lovely city. I would suggest that Scenic select another hotel option other than the Double tree. While it was a great location, it was was run down and our room was dirty. I would pay more for a nicer hotel. This was our first river cruise and our first Scenic adventure. Our first Nat Geo adventure. It is not often that often that reality exceeds expectations, but Scenic hit it out of the ball park on this trip. When Scenic says it’s all inclusive, they not kidding. From food to cocktails to all your excursions, it’s all included. If you are looking for outstanding service, spacious and lovely accommodations, varied excursions for all activity levels (we were the high activity level), a great mix of passengers, and a trip you won’t soon forget - Scenic is the cruise line for you. We choose this cruise because we had done the Rhine and this looked like a decent alternative for our next cruise. The day trips on this cruise required more bus time then the Rhine cruise which made for long long days. The low water level caused us to have to change ships too days prior to the end of the cruise this made for hectic travel time of packing and unpacking. The kitchen and bar staff were great however the butler service was a lacking compared to the service we received two years prior on the Scenic Crystal. For example all the products in the min fridge were not to our liking so www asked the butler to change the items in the mini fridge i.e. more beer less wine and on this trip he stated that the mini fridge has a fixed set up and can not be changed however on the Crystal the butler was only too happy to make the changes. This is why we rated to trip in some ares mediocre. However the money we paid of the trip was top dollar. Read Less

We picked Scenic for a few reasons. Good ratings for the cruise line. We liked the itinerary. Would have been better ratings from us if we had been able to stay on the ship we had booked. This alternate ship (the Pearl)had a wonderful crew. The crew on the 2nd ship seemed to find us an inconvenience. This is understandable since it was inconvenient for us as well. We were required to change ships for one night due to the low water levels in the Danube. I can't imagine all the extra work that means for the crew. The cruise director (Richard) was great. The worst thing about moving the ship was leaving the hearing devices on board. So we were without those fantastic devices for a full day. The guide we had that day (Regensburg?) was great, but very soft spoken. I would have had a more interesting time if I could have heard her. Read Less
