We chose this cruise as it was something my elderly mother and father had always wanted to do. My father passed away before they had the chance to go so we did a mother daughter trip. The ship was beautiful and the staff were incredible with their service no matter what role they had on the boat. The food was amazing - as was the wine selections it was truly a wonderful experience and a wonderful way to see the Seine and its rich history. The organised trips were good although my only feedback on these were some were very arduous for any one really elderly or with mobility impairments. Although in saying this the cruise director was very good at describing each tour option the evening before. This was a lovely experience and total "all inclusive" so the price covered everything except the hairdresser or the massage, no tipping required. We could not really fault this except the weather could have been a little kinder :-) Read Less

We chose Scenic as we had travelled with them once before. We were not disappointed. The whole time we felt cared for and nurtured. The cabin was beautifully appointed with an airy balcony and plenty of space. Dining options were numerous and all food and drink was fantastic quality. Entertainment included an onboard pianist, in addition to performers being brought aboard from various ports. We were even treated to a recital by a classical quartet in a Château, where Scenic docked just for the evening performance, then sailed on. Very special! Most of all, the staff were welcoming, attentive, competent and caring, which always makes a trip. There was always a personal touch. The cruise director was amazing - a French national who was full of wonderful insights into her native country. Hotel Manager ensured all F&B ran seamlessly. Food and drink choices were incredibly varied and top quality. Highly recommend! Read Less

Having cruised the Rhine also with Scenic, we needed another holiday where we would also be spoilt, and so we decided to go with them on the river Seine, visiting WW1 and 2 battlefields, and many other interesting historical places. The crew of the Gem are brilliant, and there is honestly nothing bad that can be said about them, they are attentive, dedicated staff who will do anything for you. Lots of great wine and cheese to be tasted. Watch your waistline on this cruise, as France is famous for it food, and the Gem's chefs are brilliant, and produce some absolutely great meals, and of course if you don't like what's on the menus they will make you anything. Once your on-board put your wallet and CC's in the safe, you will not need them. Everything on this cruise was included, including alcoholic drinks, and by the way there is a massive range of cocktails, which can be skippered or slurped on the upper deck in a light breeze as you sail down the river. Scenic Gem can get into harbours other cruise ships can not visit, so you are alone sometimes whilst docked, brilliant! Try this you will not be disappointed, but you will be spoilt. Read Less

I did explore Paris before embarkation. Saw all the local attractions and enjoyed the local restaurants. Did not like having people smoking in restaurants, hopefully this will be addressed in the near future. Welcome dinner was lovely with the beautiful city as a backdrop. . Dining experience was very good. Entertainment was good and enjoyed Chef’s cooking experience. Service was excellent. Some of the ports were littered with rubbish but that was not Scenic’s problem, local authorities should look into this problem. Shore excursions were very good , except the day of the Somme Battlefields excursion, the restaurant that day was not up to standard, food was terrible and were not offered anything other than the local cheap red wine. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly, thanks to the Cruise Director. Cabin was clean and very comfortable , servicing the cabin was prompt , with friendly service by staff. All in all, a very enjoyable cruise and I would highly recommend this trip. Read Less

My wife & I chose Scenic & the Scenic Gem as a retirement celebration & going to places on our bucket list in France. The entire experience was superb starting from the pickup at our hotel in Paris at the time designated thru to the final disembarkation. The meals were well done with choices at every meal, great service, friendly polite & professional staff. Our cabin was very clean & looked after every day. The tours were as stated, on time, well organized, with very professional & knowledgeable guides. Off ship meals were well done & with no hiccups. The cruise director was on top of everything & kept the passengers updated daily on the next days activities, in addition to printed itineraries delivered each evening with the turn down service. There is entertainment every evening with some being a resident pianist & other nights bringing other groups on board. Scenic seems to aim at the retired market & hits the mark. Read Less

I will openly admit that I was sceptical about why anyone, myself included, would want to take a 10-day Scenic cruise up the Seine River from Paris to the coast, when you can drive it in 2 hours! I thought it would be boring with too much time doing nothing… How wrong I was… Scenic Cruises have once again exceeded my expectations, as has the countryside and places we visited throughout Normandy on this very leisurely ‘must do’ river cruise. Full credit to Scenic for making this a 10-day cruise and not a 7 day, as most other river cruise operators do. Those extra few days turn a short getaway into a genuine relaxing holiday, one that will be remembered for many years to come. The itinerary is very well thought out with a mix of culture, cruising, experiences and diversity that I wouldn’t have thought possible in just the one ‘department’ (state, county) of France. Normandy has so much to see and do. From quaint inland villages to coastal seaside towns. Rolling hills to tidal flats and chalk cliffs. There is something for everyone on this cruise. As always Scenic do it in style. That’s why they are the leaders in River Cruising, all others simply copy. It’s the staff that make your holiday a truly great experience, with attentive care, attention to detail and a smile whatever the time, day or night (do they ever sleep I wonder?). I came on with an old pair of shoes and left with what looked like a new pair – a tribute to the butler service. Some travellers are initially put off by the price but believe me it works out better value than many of the competitors when you take into account all the inclusions. You could give the moths in your wallet a well-earned holiday as everything is included, from meals, drinks, tips, to choices of excursions you could easily go the full ten days without opening your wallet nor spend a single Euro. I was particularly impressed with Scenic’s attention to detail. Their ship ‘The Scenic Gem’ is purpose built for this river, made slightly shorter, with less cabins solely so it can dock in Honfleur instead of Le Havre as many of the other companies are forced to do being as their vessels are too long. Honfleur was a highlight of the cruise and being able to moor up in the quaint historic coastal town centre was a plus. (Le Havre is a major industrial port, no comparison!). The evening concert at the Chateau was also a great experience not to be missed, so unique, something not possible anywhere else in the world. This was my forth Scenic River Cruise and it did not disappoint. I came away feeling totally relaxed and satisfied that I had tasted all Normandy had to offer – and done it in style. Note: If you are under 60 years you will enjoy the cruise but do not expect to meet too many new friends of your age group. It primarily attracts an older crowd, perhaps due to the excellent excursions to WW1 & WW2 battle fields (Somme & Normandy Landing) which catered to not only Australians, but Canadian and American history buffs. But don’t despair, as with all Scenic Cruises there is always a choice of day tours so if these did not rock your boat then you could go explore the spectacular Chalk cliff coast line and its delightful seaside towns, or perhaps a Castle or a culinary experience. The onboard meals are of the highest standard, all made from local produce complimented by a range of fine French wines. The fresh seafood from Honfleur was up there in the ‘yum’ stakes, as were the scrumptious desserts. This raises the question: ‘Has any Scenic passenger ever got off the ship lighter than when they boarded?’ I seriously doubt it. If you did you were a temptation diehard freak with the world’s greatest will power to resist the local French delicacies and pastries on offer every day. This cruise comes highly recommended and would be an ideal add on to any European tour, a great way to end any visit to the continent. Don’t forget to book a couple of extra nights at the beginning or end of your cruise so you can do Paris justice, there is so much to experience in this captivating city. Where to go next on Scenic? We just luv river cruising now 7th in a row.( see other reviews) and we are also scenic tragics..having said that I do hold them accountable for a superior offering. The scenic Gem and the crew we had was a superior offering ,food excellent ( though im a difficult person to please ..in a plain way) .Off boat excursions varied as we are used to with on & off board entertainment in line with what scenic does. Now: 1. Crew - just a group of can do people from Bagadan our dining room waiter to karlo bar person & Palen our bulter .They couldnt do enough , attended to my many and varied requests coped with my wierd food combos ( toasted ham & cheese with a choco milk shake..on a scenic fine food boat). We had great interaction and even when i wanted to served myself they cut me off .."at the pass" 2.Food- from made to oder breakfasts ..to my specifications to my special H & C lunch of other items from the cafe to fantastic dinners..again mix & matched to my specifications the food offering is always great.Just didnt indulge as much as I have in the past.Came home only 1kg heavier. They also have special regional lunches incorporating local specials each day. 3.Off boat excursions-a real varity which options each day ( though usually similar themes).I came specifically for the Anzac battle fields Villers Bretonneux & the Normandy beaches.VB comprises leg 3 of my Anzac pilgrimage ( Gallipoli & Kokoda PNG being first two)Unfortunately it rained but we did homage to those who went before.Scenic even have a guest poem that is read every cruise . This plus Chateaus , Monets garden a bike ride all completed the offering 4.On/off board entertainment- river ships struggle here and other than a poor WW1 lecture oldie rocker band (on/b) light quizz off/b clasical quartte round out this part which was quite good overall 5.Gym & wellness- the gym is ok for me small 3 machines does the job. What was interesting & different this cruise had a wellness/excercise coach ( doubling up i believe) which we had never experienced before. While only 5 /84 of us took advantage it is an area that scenic should develop . This is not a family crusie ..couples really only just a great 11 days of " wonder" Next......Scenic Eclipse april 2019..stay tuned. Read Less

We decided to try a different river cruise line. We had experienced Uniworld a few years ago. The food and selections were very good. The daily choices were very good. The trip to the D Day landing was a disappointment as far the time allotted to appreciated and experience the area. They provided a meal while we were at Normandy that took up too much of our time. The group that we were with all agreed. This was one of the highlights of this cruise. We also found that there was a lot of bus touring with driving time taking up a lot of time. The deluxe cabin was the perfect size. the full sized balcony was also nice. The servicing of the room and the butler service was terrific. The ports of call were good except the long rides some days. Embarkation and disembarkation was very organized and seamless. The entertainment was ok but we made our own entertainment with our group. The waiters were very good and made some great recommendations. They had a good selection of wine and liquor. The daily drink specials also very good. Overall I enjoyed the Scenic experience Read Less

Primarily chose this cruise due to the itinerary and the visit to the Normandy beaches. Our first cruise with Scenic though have been on Avalon and Un-Cruise adventure river cruises. We were met at the airport and promptly taken to the ship with everything nicely handled. Took about an hour with Paris traffic to get to the ship but the van was comfortable. On the return, we were chauffeured personally with a Mercedes sedan which was wonderful and unexpected. Crew was amazing and were everywhere assisting in a myriad ways. No request was too much or a problem for them. Room service was prompt and tasty. You will see your Butler all over the place. Adam was ours and he was fantastic. Kudos to the management for superb training. By the way, this is an Australian cruise lines lots of Aussies, Brits, and Americans mostly in the 50-80 range. All inclusive so drinks were free and used top brands. Every day were new drink specials but the Margaritas were the best anywhere. Nice wines from all over France and as much as you wanted. No one abused the flow of alcohol as has been a problem with other lines. Valerie was the cruise director and she was excellent. The tour of the D-Day beaches consisted of a short visit to Arromanches D-Day museum at Juno beach followed by a long lunch and then a short visit to Omaha Beach and the American cemetery. This was far less than we wanted so Valerie arranged a private vehicle (extra $) to go to St Marie d'Eglise, the wonderful museum there, Utah beach, and then on to Omaha where we met the rest of the ship's tour. It worked out beautifully but would have been very disappointing since we did not come several thousand miles to just have a nice lunch. Unexpected was the wonderful little French fishing villages especially Honfleur and Les Andelys. Rest of the tours were well organized and very enjoyable. Everything ran like clockwork with absolutely no glitches of any kind. Couple of hour long bus rides but the buses were comfortable. Suggest using the TV's on the busses to amplify the historical information about the destinations. Monet's house and garden in Vrnon-Giverny were beautiful but made far less enjoyable because of the large crowds. Chantilly castle was beautiful and enjoyable too.Very much enjoyed shopping with the Chef in Paris. All meals (except for "L'Amour) served in the main dining room including the "Table Le Rive" which is a multi course extravaganza with each course paired with wines. L'Amour was served in a nice section of the ship forward and close to the bar and main lounge. L'Amour is a one time shot for all passengers and Table Le Rive offered only to Diamond Deck customers. Both were excellent.Generally meals were good but I have definitely had better steaks and fish.Spectacular service made up for any shortcomings. Not much in the way of entertainment except for an electronic organ player and a band that made an appearance one time. We did not come on this cruise for the big shows like on cruise lines so all was good. Similar entertainment on other river cruises that we have experienced. Buy some Euros before you go as ship will charge an additional 5% service charge. Electrical outlets are adequate but make sure you have adapters as they are the European plugs. Seriously considering the Bordeaux cruise next year on the same line. By the way, apparently the Aussies dislike tipping so it is all included in the price though I just had to reward a few of the crew since they were so great. Almost forgot, one free laundry service which made packing very easy. Can be used anytime during the cruise. Also free pressing. Read Less

WE had been on a previous Scenic cruise and decided that we'd enjoy the Scenic Gem cruise in France, along the Seine. We spent two days exploring Paris first of all then Scenic transferred us to the Boat , docked along the river bank. Our welcome on board, along with the rose and champagne prepared us for the next eleven nights of Scenic pampering. Our cabin was beautifully prepared and quite roomy and we were delighted with the balcony. The daily excursions were varied and pleasant, especially as the local guides were interesting and knowledgeable. We were impressed with the way that each staff member worked very much as a part of the team. They were well trained, cheerful and always ready to speak, or go out of their way to be helpful. Our housekeeper and our butler were wonderful - our cabin was always beautifully kept, and my morning cup of tea was bliss. The dining room constantly amazed us with the range of magnificent meals created by gifted chefs, but in order to keep our clothes fitting we also enjoyed the River Cafe light lunches. Dining in L'Amour, and enjoying the Palace dinner were special events we shall remember for a long time. Thank you Scenic for another wonderful holiday experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise after a presentation in Peterborough and it lived up to all expectations. It was our first experience of Scenic but it certainly will not be the last. The whole trip was trouble free and with it being all in we did not have to worry about tips, costs of excursions, drinks etc. The whole ship was immaculate from the galley (yes we did have a look around and marvelled how the chefs produced such fantastic food in such a small area) to the cabins. The cabin staff were very efficient making beds and cleaning the bathroom not once but twice after our evening shower leaving a cleverly folded towel on the bed to welcome us back. All the staff from the Captain to cabin staff were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble we just had to ask. The cruise Director was extremely entertaining and other entertainment was good especially the Crew Show. The waiters were always on hand to cater for all our needs and on the day of the barbecue on the sun deck must have walked miles making sure we all had drinks. We were invited to have dinner in L'Amour restaurant which turned out to be a lovely evening with a French menu and a variety of wines to be sampled. Whilst the waiters were all attentive in the Crystal Room they were particularly so in L'Amour making us feel very special. An evening to remember. Read Less

I accompanied an older relative who suggested Scenic, and was happy to do so being an Australian company. The ship was amazing, clean, beautifully turned out, lovely suites, great staff, above average food. What disappointed me was the company that Scenic contract their onshore excursions to. Three (3) places on the itinerary were closed, some of the special attractions were not so special and there was a consistent lack of information as to the capability of travellers to attend these attractions. Yes, we travel knowing our capabilities, but as the average age of the Scenic traveller on this ship was about 70, a lot had walking difficulties. So information about how far, how steep and how long, should be included, rather than, slow, moderate or hard going as a description. Scenic need to 'Mystery Shop" their own cruises to get a better understanding of what is being offered onshore. We had a late flight out at the end of the trip so organised a 'day stay' hotel room to wait our time to depart. We had spoken with Scenic in Australia about this, and basically got the answer, you board at 4pm and depart the ship at 9am. This is NOT so. Passengers were boarding from about 9am and some were not departing until 5:30pm. We could have stayed on board in the lounge until time to depart to the airport instead of spending 250E for a 'day stay' room in a hotel. Would I recommend Scenic, yes I would solely based on the onboard experience, but feel they need to up their game with regards to this particular cruise and its onshore attractions. Read Less

We spotted an exceptionally good price on a 6 day, 5 night cruise from Paris to the English Channel and jumped as fast as we could. The cruise was a charter by Legendary Journeys and, with the exception of initial problems in receiving information because of a computer issue, the trip was a real joy and we regret not also taking the "return trip" to Paris The Scenic Gem is a new design for cabins. Comments are below. Our desire on the trip was to relax and enjoy walking around small French towns at a comfortable rate, The trip worked perfectly for that and we were able to enjoy the company of good friends we met on the trip. The food was very good and the Chef was available for special requests. We totally enjoyed the dining experience from Breakfast to late night snacks. The entertainment was limited to a single musician playing the piano and guitar, as well as singing. Sounds concerning, but this guy was both experienced and talented and worked the room with skill. Service was excellent. Benjamin was the Legendary Cruise Director and spent a lot of time helping us contact embassy (my wife's purse with passport and green card were stolen in Paris before the cruise) and we really appreciated his efforts. All other staff were very friendly and worked hard to ensure you enjoyed your cruise. I was impressed to the point that I want to take the same ship next year? Visits to towns along the river ere a joy to stroll around and we would enjoy visiting each one again so I would rate them 5 Stars. Overall the cruise was fun of good food, great new friends and excellent service. Strongly recommended, Read Less
