Just completed a 14 day cruise to Norway and Iceland. It was our best cruise yet, the stops were great, especially in Iceland. We met some great folks and as usual the staff were top quality. From the point we arrived in Southampton everything ran like clockwork, its so easy to embark. The food on board is excellent wherever you decide to eat. we mostly went to Horizon. The bars on board are great, we used Churchill's mostly, its like being in your local at home, it tends to be quieter than the other bars. We did our on exploring in all ports, this is made easy as all stops had a tourist centre, and with some planning beforehand. The Platter and the Destination Expert Videos are very helpful. If I have any disappointment, then it was the last 3 days at sea. It was good to relax, but another stop on way home would have broken up the time. Next years cruise booked on board, another good deal. Read Less

I saved up to take my retired parents on their first cruise. The itinerary was good, the stateroom was beautiful and spacious but the dining was slow, on average it took 2 1/2 hours to serve a soup or salad, salmon or meat and veg and a cold pudding. We chose anytime dining which seemed to make the service slower. We tried going early /half time /later and always had to wait a long time for a table so we missed a lot of the entertainment too. The food was edible, like a bar meal or canteen catering but it wasn't delicious. However, the food on the last night was delicious and much different to the other nights which saddened me. The service overall was hit and miss. I would say that the staff were all overstretched. The guy cleaning the cabins had 19 to take care of and easily worked a 12 hour shift, there were hardly any waiters in the dining room which contributed to slow service - about 8 waiters per restaurant, the entertainment who were excellent, also had a triple shift - singing for over 3 hours throughout the night, which is a lot for a band. The ports and shore excursions were enjoyable. We visited Bruge, Copenhagen and Oslo. We couldn't dock at Skagen due to high winds. We had a lovely holiday but it certainly didn't have the cruise wow factor we expected for that price point. I feel quite cheated and I don't feel my parents got the real cruise experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily to see Mid Night Sun. And we were not disappointed! We were above the Arctic Circle for 5, 24 hr Sun days/Nights! 3 days were cloudy, one day partially sunny and one day was clear blue skies. The midnight sun on June 22 was very surreal and Princess had a midnight party on the top deck. All the other ports of call were very scenic. The Norwegian Fjords are awesome ! We really did not take any excursions from the ports as there was much to see right there ! At Geiranger and Lofotin Islands, we took some excursions offered by local bus tours but not any offered by Princess as they were too costly. The worst part of the cruise was lack of quality food options for vegetarians. There was only one choice for main dish every night and most of the time, it was not well prepared. Vegetarians can eat many Italian dishes ( cheese ravioli, pasta primavera, quiche and Indian dishes ). I do not understand why they add meat to salads and soups! I am glad at least the deserts have no meat! The Sanctuary was hardly used by people for whom it was intended. Make that space available to all. There were only 2 formal nights as against 3 advertised. There should have been enrichment lectures on Astrology (Midnight sun) and Geology as we were in the arctic circle , going thru the fjords and oil rigs in the North Sea. We enjoyed the cruise very much because of the choice of the poarts, fantastic scenery and Mid Night Sun! Read Less

We chose this cruise to Norway as we have traveled quite extensively but not to this region. The embarkation was well organized, as typical for Princess, and went smoothly. We had a balcony cabin on the Lido deck that was very convenient for the breakfast and lunch buffet. The cabin was not glamorous but had a very comfortable bed, plenty of closet space and beautiful views. Our steward was a lovely gentleman and provided excellent service. The ship's passengers were mainly 50+, and there were few children aboard. This is really a trip for the older well traveled set, and I can't imagine how it could have been entertaining for anyone under 21. If you want activities for children this is the wrong cruise line and the wrong ports of call. We selected the early fixed time dining and walked past the long line of Anytime Diners as we went to our table in the Pacific Moon dining room. There were 2 other couples at our table who we enjoyed getting to know during the cruise and had many enjoyable conversations. Our 2 waiters were very professional, and we all wanted to take them home. The meals were excellent except for the steak dishes, which were not up to the same quality as the other selections. The Horizon Court buffet had a good selection but was very crowded on a few days. We went on excursions at every port and especially enjoyed the train in Flam, the ice bar in Gravdal and and trip to Mt. Dalsnibba. Our only complaint is some of the guides spoke English with an accent that was hard to understand. We went to all the shows that varied from outstanding for the professional entertainers to average for the ship variety shows. The biggest weakness of the whole cruise was the limited seating in the theater compared to the population of guests and, therefore, the need to get to the theater at least 50 minutes ahead of time to snag 2 seats next to each other. I would have liked to have some presentations about the history of Norway and the current political situation. The talks we went to were from a tourist perspective or really boring. The disembarkation went smoothly and we were delighted to see our luggage waiting for us when we got off the ship. Read Less

The Norwegian Fjords have been on my bucket list and did not disappoint. The itinerary was absolutely gorgeous and if it wasn't for that, this cruise would be getting a much lower rating. The cabin was small and tired. This ship is due a major overhaul. Specifically little things like better outlets and charging ports for the number of devices we are all carrying these days. In-cabin entertainment was also limited and the ability to plug your own device into the TV to watch pre-recorded shows would be a nice amenity. We could get to an open input but the TV is preprogrammed so that you cannot change inputs and are forced to watch the Princess stuff. Our chair was completely broken (I completely fell through it when I first sat down) but was fixed quickly. The demographic on this cruise was VERY old and it made traveling with a teenager a little difficult although he doesn't complain, he was bored on-board. Luckily we had 11 stops so we got off fairly often. Too bad the shore excursions were so astronomically expensive or we would have done more. Also, the shore excursions seemed to rush from one attraction to another never giving you a chance to explore in any depth. All the on-board entertainment seemed to be geared for people 75+. You've got to mix it up a little. Not everyone is into big bands, show tunes, and stuff from the 1960s and earlier. I'm in my 50s and was simply flabbergasted at the lack of entertainment for even my generation, much less anyone younger. The real disappointment however was the food. This was by-far the worst food I've experienced on a cruise. (I've been on 6) The Horizon was awful and had no variety at all. Every piece of beef we had on this ship (even in Sterling Steakhouse) was overcooked and tough as leather. Sabatini's was the only really great meal we had. The pizza place in the Piazza was decent also. We've always had great food when it was an Italian or French food services crew but I think this one was British. I'm not sure if that had something to do with it but the food was bland, under-seasoned and every piece of bread was hard as a rock. Overall, service was top-notch and the crew treated us great. We had a very good time despite the short-comings compared to other cruises. One thing I have to note though is that Princess has gotten out of hand with the "nickel & diming" and charging extra for every little thing. Charging extra for things like regular coffee is no longer acceptable when I can stay in virtually any cheap motel worldwide and get free coffee. A cruise should be virtually all-inclusive for the amount we are paying. Bottom line: The destination was amazing and fun but the ship & crew need to be improved Read Less

We liked the variety of destinations on this cruise. St Petersburg was definitely the highlight with Tallin a close second. We were lucky to have glorious weather the whole time. The entertainment was excellent with a variety of different acts. The Russian folklore show on the overnight stay in st Petersburg was brilliant. A great singer Philip Browne gave a great show as did Greg Scott a violinist. Not too keen on the comedian. The ships dancers and singers gave great show. Duke the Cruise Director was a great guy and has lots of enthusiasm. He also tells great jokes. Loved his shoes!! There was a good range of shops on board. We chose tradiodining with friends we were travelling with and we had a great rapport with our waiters who looked after us very well. There were three formal nights when most people dressed up for the occasiona. The meals were beautifully cooked and presented. Would recommend this Cruise. Read Less

We had been to St.Petersburg before, but this cruise covered 2 important dates, our 52nd Wedding Anniversary on the 4th June 2018 and my Birthday on the 11th June 2018. I usually tell people I am 96 years of age , but to be truthful I am not that old. Just bits of me feel that old. We had selected a Mini-Suite mid-ships, which was good, but not great, nothing can compare to a Cunard Suite! and we do like a butler suite, but Princess have stopped having any butlers, don't know why?. The TV's in the cabin had all been changed to large flat screens, we had 2 of them. The one nearest the windows had to be changed, it stopped working and its replacement wasn't prperly installed. Each TV has a modem and each deck on the ship has a server, for TV and presumably WIFI, which had an excellent reception. unfortunately the installers forgot to retune the TV's modems, so although it received TV programs, it wouldn't download on demand films. Also when they had removed the old TVs there must have been shelving. The screw holes for the shelving had just been left as holes, we managed to get them covered, they installed finger bandage stickers!, not push in plastic plugs. The food in the Freedom Dining room was quite good, but the price of their wine was far too high. For basic plonk wine, i.e. the cheapest was around $33-$38 a bottle, and a bottle of water in your cabin cost £3.95 for a 1 litre bottle, absolutely robbery!. But we struggled on, one day the Cruise Director interviewed Shirley Jone, star of Oklahoma and Carousel, after the interview we met up with her and my wife Dodie had a lovely cuddle, Dodie had danced in all these shows. Dodie mentioned to Duke, the Cruise Director that she had taught Tap Dancing on many Princess Ships, he said "would you like to teach on this ship" and of course Dodie said yes. She actually taught 2 classes which were well received, the second class had around 40+ passengers participating abd many have since sent Dodie very nice emails. We didn't use the cruise excursions, each time we stopped, apart from Russia, we hired a local taxi and did our own touring, we highly recommend this method. So we had 4 great events to remember the cruise, birthdays, anniversaries and 2x tap dancing, great can't wait for the next cruise. (September with P&O in a butler suite). Read Less
