Disasterdam!

Review for a South America Cruise on Oosterdam

Embarkation We cruised from Valparaiso, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina on Feb 24-Mar 10 2023 on the Oosterdam (I renamed it the Disasterdam!). On the cruise there was an interesting talk to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Holland America Line on HAL’s history. One segment was about the line transporting immigrants from Europe to the US in the late 1800’s-early 1900’s. They decided to ...

Poor quality of food and disrepair

Review for a South America Cruise on Oosterdam

We chose this cruise as it was offered to us at a discounted price due to our mariner status & casino offers. The fruit was old, meat chewy, food cold many times and many areas of the ship needs repair. We had multiple issues with our cabin and never got them resolved. We were very dissatisfied and unsure we will return to Holland cruise line even though we have 4 star mariner status. The line has ...

Not as good as expected..

Review for a South America Cruise on Oosterdam

We chose this cruise, and ship, because we wanted to visit South America and the itinerary was just what we wanted. Never having sailed with HAL before, we were encouraged by remarks that they are 'just like Cunard', our favourite line. Sadly this proved to be, most definitely, not the case. The embarkation, at Valparaiso, was the most shambolic we have ever encountered in 20+ cruises. There ...

Machu Picchu Land Tour (NOT!) and Antarctica Cruise: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Sapphire Princess

We are Platinum level Princess cruisers. We chose this cruise primarily for the itinerary which included a Land Tour to Machu Picchu followed by a cruise around Cape Horn and Antarctica. Unfortunately, that itinerary was in flux and cut back before and during the trip. We've written a long, detailed letter to Princess' Executive team. An abbreviated version follows, which I've called "The ...

Didn't Meet Expectation

Review for a South America Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

We chose Celebrity thinking we would get a better experience and more refined than we have on RYC (which have been great on the 3 cruses we have taken with them). I was quite disappointed to be honest, the ship was tired with worn out carpet, rust visible on the outside of the ship and generally not the experience we were sold. Most of the staff were great and tried to make up for the tired ...

Good Cape Horn Cruise after a shaky start

Review for a South America Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

We had always wanted to do a Cape Horn cruise as it is one of the classic voyages. We were 2 couples. Coming out of Covid, the incentives were fantastic with free drinks, tips and (slow) wifi. Embarkation from Valparaiso was a gong show as I believe ours was the first ship departing for Celebrity from that port in about 3 years. Lots of grumbling in the very long line and many of the staff ...

Amazing expedition and beautiful weather too

This was my first Lindblad expedition experience, 2019 Epic Patagonia and everyday from the first day arriving in Santiago, Chile was better than the last. There were some things that Lindblad had no control over, like the amazing mild and sunny weather we experienced on almost all the days of this expedition, and the 5 pumas showing up for their portraits at Torres Del Paine. My solo cabin on ...

Ports of call interesting. We havd never been to these countries on the Pacific side of South America.. Going this tome of year we expected, and received waem weather. Having sailed with Princess several times, with very positive results, we picked this itinerary. Being familiar with the Royal Princess, having sailed with her before, and having been told that she was refitted with new ...

Wanted to passage the Panama Canal again - to see the new larger locks that were being built the last time we passed this way - Holland America was recommended to us - we were disappointed at the poor meals - not much choice and constantly had rice (which we are not keen on) - the expensive poor trips - some of which did not actually visit all the places listed. As the cruise went on - things ...

Review for a South America Cruise on Seabourn Quest

This was a once in a lifetime cruise around Cape Horn starting in Santiago, Chile….glacial cruising around Cape Horn, Antarctica landings, up the east coast of South America, ending deep in the Amazon in Manaus, Brazil. For booking, this cruise was forty-two days and technically two back to back cruises on Seabourn Quest. The ship is reinforced for Antarctica. This was the last summer trip ...
