Antarctica fabulous but Regent has declined

Review for a South America Cruise on Seven Seas Voyager

Loved seeing antarctica. we booked as former fans of regent after 5 previous trips. The voyager is a nice boat with fun circular pool bar where we have enjoyed meeting many friends on past trips. however, the boat is looking somewhat shabby and needs a rehab to put it back to 5 star status. while the staff people are great, they seemed stressed/training mode now, from what we observed (lack of ...

Plusses and minuses

Review for a South America Cruise on Viking Jupiter

The good points: The ship was just as amazingly comfortable as I expect from Viking. An A+ there. The food was pretty good, exactly as always. (Which is getting a bit boring. I wish they followed Viking River and had more variety and more local dishes.) The one bright spot was a Chinese food station they added which was much appreciated. Finally, the scenery -- once we got there -- was ...

This was our first cruise on Silversea. We were on the Silver Wind for18 nights (roundtrip from Puerto Williams) to Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. What We Really Liked * Butler service was outstanding * The Restaurant Dining Room waiters were excellent (most, but not all) * The activities host did an outstanding job with trivia, name that tune, ...

Viking Good but South America not so much

Review for a South America Cruise on Viking Jupiter

Having been to Europe on Viking River & Ocean we thought we would try South America this time. Disappointing as Argentina and Chile not very open to tourists. Getting off in Buenos Aires was a disaster-3 hours through customs and 6 hours to get luggage delivered to room. The ship and crew as always were up to Viking standards! The excursions tried hard to show us items of interest but some ...

Lots of good things--some not-so-good

Chose this cruise as way to see South America as land tours involved a lot of flights. Silversea was my first choice but it was sold out. We have done the Hurtigruten Norway fijords but otherwise this was our first cruise. The good stuff first: Viking Jupiter is beautiful ship--well-designed and top-notch finishes. Stateroom was spacious and comfortable. Staff were attentive and helpful and ...

Bait and switch on excursions

Review for a South America Cruise on Viking Jupiter

AVOID THIS CRUISE UNLESS YOU WANT TO STAY ON BOARD THE ENTIRE TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!! Great ship; good crew, with just a few exceptions. The problem is the excursions offered by Viking. Food is much better than Royal Caribbean and Carnival, but nowhere near the quality offered on Oceania. I chose this trip based, in large part, on the Andes Mountains lake and mountain photograph on the Viking ...

The Christmas that never was

Review for a South America Cruise on Viking Jupiter

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and time of year, being Christmas. We tossed up between it and Norwegian but thought a smaller ship would be better for being able to get in closer and see more. Having done other ocean cruises with other lines we imagined how wonderful Christmas would be on a ship. Not to be! Apart from some evening carols 2 days before, nothing else! Just another day ...

The cruise visited places that were not easily accessed by road. The ports and opportunity to visit Macchu Piccu was amazing. The Panama Canal transit was fascinating. However, we felt the Queen Vic could do better. Why with all the focus on ocean environmental responsibility does the ship use plastic cotton buds( refer David Attenborough,) plastic straws, plastic spoons, endless small ...

Silversea Muse; Valparaiso, Chile to Buenos Aires.

Review for a South America Cruise on Silver Muse

We chose this cruise because of the S. American itinerary and because the Muse was a new ship.We were concerned about the previous negative reviews we had read related to dining and formal nights and we were pleased to see that these items were not an issue. We never had a problem getting a reservation in any of the restaurants even though we changed many of our original reservations. There ...

Reflections on the Silver Muse

Review for a South America Cruise on Silver Muse

We chose this cruise primarily for the itinerary, but also because an acquaintance was actively recruiting people to join her and her husband on their sixth Silversea cruise. She was enthusiastic about the line and spoke highly of the travel agent she has used for many years. We ended up with a group of 18, some who had previously traveled together and others, like us, who were "newbies" to the ...
