Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Ruby Princess

We choose Princess because it sailed out of San Francisco. We were able to take the Amtrac train out of Fresno, CA at 6:00 AM and were in front of the Buffet at 11:30 AM. Embarkation was the easiest of all our cruises. Luggage taken right from the Uber along the curbside. Every sea day was a hour practice on the steel drums for 30 shipmates. Leader of the drums, Wilson, was great. Much ...

All new ports and new lock canal transit for us. Ship's first cruise since a three week dry dock. Not sure what work was performed but ship had some issues. I think CP was built in 2004. The first thing we noticed was all the windows on the Lido deck were so filthy dirty you could barely see thru them and the window in our restricted view cabin on Emerald deck 8 cabin E308 also dirty. One morning ...

We originally booked this cruise through the Panama Canal for April 2020. We were very excited when we were finally able to start cruising again and were looking forward to sailing through the Panama Canal. Most of our past cruises have been with Princess. Princess has paid a lot of attention to health safety protocols. We had to have a negative Covid test within 48 hours of embarkation. We ...

Always wanted to do the Canal and it was amazing! The LGBTQ social in Adagio every day was very special and we met over 25 people from all over and met every day, plus had a pool social one afternoon. Cherry and Michelle were very friendly and served us well. It was great to see the return of two shows with singers and dancers and would hope this could be expanded as Covid recedes. Also enjoyed ...

This was our second cruise on the Ruby Princess. Passenger capacity was 60%. The Panama Canal full transit was the main reason for us taking this cruise. Embarkation took about an hour. Pier-side covid testing was expected although there were passengers who were not happy after doing the required 48 hour tests. Cabin was not ready until 1 pm. Comments: Food in the buffet as others have ...

Oceania cruises are great for couples (nothing interesting for children or singles) This cruise was from San Franciso to Santiago Chile, i.e. a 22-day section of a world cruise. In addition to embarkation and debarkation, we visited these ports: Santa Barbara and San Diego in USA; Cabo, Ixtapa, Acapulco and Puerto Chapas in Mexico; Puerto Quetzel in Gautemala, Acajutla in El Salvador; Manta ...

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the fact that it left San Francisco and ended in New York. Being from the East Coast, we only had to fly one way. This cruise had 13 port stops which was wonderful. The ship was almost all senior citizens which we expected due to the length of the cruise. We met some wonderful people from all over the world and it was so interesting talking ...

This is my 26th review for Cruise Critic. Unlike some reviewers that join this group just to complain about a bad experience, I have, for the past 10+ years felt obliged to write about my cruise experiences. I am a professional writer in another life which tends to make my reviews long and thorough. If you want to know simply if we liked our time on the Gem, just count the stars. If you want to ...

We had never seen the Panama Canal and this time worked well with our schedule. The shipboard entertainment in the evening was varied and of good quality. We particularly enjoyed the violinist and piano duo of Consonance and the choice of comedians, musicians and singers were excellent for such a small ship. The food was very good at all meals and at times excellent. The excursions were a mixed ...

We heard how good Princess is and we had traveled last year on a Princess. We wanted to see the Panama Canal and the cruise sounded just what we wanted. Embarkation and disembarkation went so very smooth. We were impressed. The service was awesome and our cabin sparkling clean thanks to our cabin steward. Was very much disappointed in that we were unable to take our scooter on the tenders and ...
