Day 1 (Embarkation)
Well, we took a chance for the first time in 5 cruises and decided to fly into San Francisco on the same day as embarkation due to financial constraints and DH's inflexible job. We've never done it before and despite a flawless execution without flight delays or hitches of any kind, we won't do it again unless finances absolutely dictate the necessity. Flight was on time, we ...
We decided to take a cruise to the Mexican Rivera on the Norwegian Sun when they offered a sale in Mid-Sept. We purchased our inside cabin for $499 per person plus tax/fees...a great deal for 11 nights. We also enjoyed the fact that since we live in the San Francisco Bay Area, we would not have to fly to meet the ship..a big plus. We sailed previously on NCL in 1990 on the former Seaward in the ...
What follows is a review of the Norwegian Sun on its Oct. 24-Nov.4th voyage from San Francisco to the Mexican Riviera. I must admit that after I read the reviews on this site dated Oct. 8th that I had some misgivings about having selected this cruise. Fortunately, I found a lot to like, tho we had a couple of significant perturbations.
We had two adjacent cabins booked, one of them for my ...
We chose this cruise since it departed from San Francisco and would save us airfare to Los Angeles or San Diego.
We arrived at Pier 35 and found the embarkation process to be quick and efficient. After boarding the ship we waited in the Great Outdoor cafe for our cabin to be ready and enjoyed a lite lunch.
Cabins were ready at about 2:00pm. We were pleased with the size of the cabin and ...
We were on the Oct. 1-12, sailing of the Sun. The trip was our first time with NCL. We've sailed with Princess and Carnival before. We sailed out of San Francisco, which is a 35-minute drive from our home. That part was wonderful. Plus, it was almost a religious experience sailing through the Golden Gate, under the bridge from the Bay into the Pacific Ocean. We had a balcony cabin, very ...
Perhaps in each review we should state our biases and backgrounds first. We are older, and have taken over 50 cruises, only one of which was on NCL. The cruise lines we use most are Princess, HAL, X, and RCCL. We preferred traditional dining when we arrived at the ship and still do.
Embarkation. This was the worst part of the cruise. It took over two hours to get on board, over one of which was ...
This is a review of a cruise on NCL's Norwegian Sun, San Francisco to the Mexican Riviera and return to San Francisco, 12-23 October 2009.
We booked the cheapest inside cabin, which cost slightly less then $750 per person, including port fees, taxes and the automatic $12 per day gratuity charged to your shipboard account. According to the cruise broker I used this was supposedly almost a 50% ...
This was only our second cruise, the first was about 8 years ago on the Celebrity Horizon, a much older ship (so old that it didn't have balconies)! That cruise was a 7-night Western Caribbean with family, and although we had a great time it was not what I'd call relaxing. My most distinct memory from that cruise was laying by the pool for the first time on the last full day of the trip thinking, ...
My wife and I have only been on one other cruise, and that was with Royal Caribbean and that was also to Mexico. After reading many negative reviews on the Sun, I can only guess that most of those negatives are from nit-pickers. Not to say that our cruise didn't have some problems, but for the amount we paid ($959.00)pp for a balcony, I feel we got our moneys worth.
Embarkation was smooth but ...
Just got back from the Sun on Mexican Rivera cruise for 11 days. We usually get a suite when cruising. This was our 8 th. cruise with NCL. Butler was Roel and Concierge was Karin. Both were excellent! Though we only used Karin for booking dinner, she was very attentive with any questions we had. Roel our butler was very good. Had breakfast in suite twice, he kept our fridge with fresh limes we ...
