Review for a Transpacific Cruise on Noordam

Flew from hometown to San Diego to embarkation. Met my roommate in San Diego airport. We only had time to get luggage and then catch the shuttle to the ship. We were promptly put aboard and our cabin was ready for us as well as Invitations for dinners, drink cards, chocolate covered strawberries (never was sure who sent them)and our cabin stewards, Setyo and Nita, greeted us before going to ...

Really wanted to see the South Pacific Islands, but because of weather, Captain decided safety was foremost and we bypassed two islands, and had excursions cancelled on the third. Gutsy of the Captain to walk through the Lido buffett area after he made these announcements. Embarkation A disaster. Having only one person slowly process the "special needs" check-in line caused for long ...

HAL still rocks, but the cutbacks continue.

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Noordam

This was our seventh cruise on HAL but our first on the Noordam and certainly our longest at 39 days. We thoroughly enjoyed it, which is why we keep coming back to HAL, but are concerned that the cutbacks in service are continuing. At some point we pray that HAL will stop cutting back and maintain the quality that we have come to expect. We experienced the first cutback just after boarding the ...

This was our first cruise with Holland America, and we were not disappointed. We flew to Honolulu and sailed back to Sydney, a 15 night segment of a longer cruise. There were lots of sea days on this sector which is what we wanted to just kick back and relax. If you are looking for a party this is probably not the ship for you as the average passenger age was probably 55-60+, which is also our ...

Everything you have read about the San Diego to Ensenada transfer on Cruise Critic is true, but probably understated. It was the main topic of conversation at the Cruise Critic RollCall get-together, when the cruise director asked for comments or questions. Try to imagine being in a giant warehouse with 2,000 other people, with one set of bathrooms, no signs telling people where to check in, no ...

Good but a bit of a disappointment

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Zaandam

I should preface this review by saying that even a bad cruise isn't totally bad. On the other hand, I haven't done a Carnival Cruise in a while (ha). 4 out of my last 5 cruises have been on Holland America but this Zaandam cruise was (by far) the worst. My first cabin was 1882 on the Dolphin deck. On the first night of the cruise the seas became a bit rough and we began to hear this loud ...

Embarkation: We boarded the Zaandam in San Diego. Boarding was fast and efficient. We arrived at the pier around noon and were in our cabin by 12:30. The staff both on shore and on board were very helpful. Stateroom: We were in cabin 2603 (center, starboard side). As with previous HAL ships, the stateroom was roomy and comfortable. Our cabin was not particularly clean.. This was ...

Where should I start? First, I want to say this is MY review and ONLY my account will be in it. Nobody else had any input or review of it so if it is badly written it is all my fault. This cruise was memorable to say the least. I will start with kudos to our wonderful "hostess" Amy, our Cruise Critic leader. She was on top of stuff and was/is the spark plug that made things seem to come together. ...

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Oosterdam

Let me preface this review by pointing out our previous cruises have all been on ships with a maximum of 700+ passengers. So, while I realize there are people devoted to HAL, my view is going to be that of someone experiencing a large non-luxury ship for the first time. We chose HAL as non-of our preferred ships were scheduled for a Hawaii round trip at the time we wanted to go. This was also our ...

Ok, my only cruising experience before this was 20 years ago on the old norway so i dont have a lot of foundation to compare this trip to. The upsetting things to me, would probably be far more upsetting to those of you that have more experience on cruise lines. And the truth is I'm coming from this from a different perspective then many readers. So a little background. im a single 42 year old ...
