Overall summary of the cruise: great weather, hard working staff, we made the best of the app, however, the food was mediocre at best unless you paid extra and a few surprises really got to us.
The other reviews that we read tempered our expectations and this ship had a serious norovirus outbreak a few weeks before we sailed. We arrived in good spirits on a soggy afternoon in Galveston. ...
The embarkation process was fast, but then we had to wait because the ship was being sanitized due to a norovirus outbreak on the previous cruise. (We did not have an outbreak on our cruise.) Our room (B3** balcony room) was comfortable. The bathroom was small, but the shower was tiny. I don't know how a large person could take a shower comfortably. My 6'2" husband had difficulties. The ...
We've previously cruised on HAL, NCL and Costa with Princess being our 12th cruise each. We chose this Ruby Princess cruise specifically because it departed from the Port of Galveston and visited ports we visited years ago and were curious how they'd changed.
Booking
I booked online directly about 90 days before cruise on Princess site, no agent. It was my first Princess Cruise, my husband’s ...
I'm not sure what happened to the Ruby since I cruised on her in July of 2022, but something sure changed.
Dining:
Crown Grill: We ate there 2 times, and the first time I ordered the Filet Med Rare - It was the toughest piece of meat I've ever eaten......tasted like a cheap piece of sirloin steak. It was cooked perfectly, but man was it tough. The 2nd time I ordered the Porterhouse ...
We returned to Alaska on Princess because our friends are frequent cruisers on Princess. Alaska is still a great place to cruise even though most of the ports have become McCommercialized with diamond stores and the like. The excursions are a great way to see the sights and we have no criticism there. The staff on the ship was usually top notch and jumping to provide quick and efficient ...
We do wish there was more competition from San Francisco. The weather in Alaska was just appalling except for Sitka. Sitka now has a dock 5 miles out of town. A FREE bus is supposed to run every 15 mins but it is hopeless, disorganized queue jumping, free for all elbow jabbing contest. Expect to queue for hours waiting to return to ship. If there is more than 1 ship in town the guests from both ...
THE CRUISE
This was our 19th Alaska cruise and unfortunately the worst weatherwise. We have had beautiful weather on many of our previous cruises and only had three days of rain on all of those. This one made up for the good ones of the past with rain everywhere and biting cold winds. Well, that’s Alaska, you have to take the bad with the good.
CHECK IN PROCESS
We were through the check ...
We wanted to go to Alaska, and trip was convient, leaving and returning to San Franciso. I had previously traveled with Princess, but over 10 years ago. More recently with other carriers. We chose this date to see Glacier Bay. The itinerary and service did not disappoint.
The menu descriptions were very appealing, but the food was not. The buffet had items like roasted potatoes and others ...
Post-Covid, the cruise industry is not what is was before. It is evident that cost-saving measures have been implemented and ships are not full, whether from the difficulty of getting sufficient crew or as a covid precaution is hard to say. Our cruise began with two BIG hiccups. The ship docked late (we were told) and so passengers disembarked late and new passengers were left standing outside ...
Medallion system was often fun and often difficult to use. Getting it set up I had to call Princess to walk me through. Princess should supply written instructions.I never did figure out how to use the phone app.
I chose this cruise to Alaska because it was round trip San Francisco and I'm too lazy to fly to a ship. Food in dining room has improved since our last Princess cruise: more ...
