We traveled with a group from Henderson, NV. Took a chartered bus to port which made it so convenient to get to. Cruised to San Francisco, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. We took short tours on all of the cities except in San Diego. Our nephew met us in San Diego and took us to Little Italy. In Ensenada we went on a short wine tour. It was very informative. After we had time to stop for lunch at a nice cafe. We also bought some tequila at a local liquor store. We were able to taste some samples there. We always do the open dining. All our meals were great. Service was excellent every night. The mornings we docked we would order a continental breakfast so we could get to shore as soon as possible. We had a balcony room. Our porter did an excellent job keeping our room clean. Bed was so comfortable. Views from our room were great. Loved the sunsets. Read Less

We chose this cruise to Alaska because of the timing was perfect to get everyone of the family (except one) on board at this time. We had ten members of the family and eight friends join us for this wonderful event. We sailed on the Ruby (one of our favorite ships) and the venue was great for all to enjoy. The main event of course was to renew our wedding vows( after 60 years) and the ceremony was conducted by Captain Marco Fortezze (his first 60 year event). It was a real challenge getting everyone there but it was worth it. It's like herding cats and the grand kids said "Gramma and Grandpa are finally getting married" -HaHa. It was really worth it and everyone had a great time. The ship, cabins, dinning, ports and excursions and entertainment were super. This was our fourth time to Alaska and we highly recommend it. Especially if it is going to be the first time for someone to sail on a cruise. Read Less

My daughter wanted to celebrate her 21st birthday on a cruise so we selected the 7-day Inside Passage Cruise from Seattle to Alaska. The cruise was absolutely wonderful. Every employee we were in contact with were friendly, courteous and helpful. We absolutely loved our mini suite. Our room stewart Ricky was heaven sent. We felt like celebrities in our cabin with empicable service. Dining was also great. We appreciated the hand sanitizer station at the entry of the buffet with a host standing there to make sure everyone sanitized their hands before a plate (or platter) was handed to them! As for regular dining, we opted for the anytime dining. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. We had a great time with the dining room staff. We had the all-inclusive drink package which I highly recommend drinkers purchase. On sea days there was plenty to do. We played bingo, worked out in the gym, went to the spa and salon and tried our luck in the casino. We walked the promenade deck daily for fresh air and a look at the ocean. Unfortunately, it was raining at every port, however we enjoyed our land tours which we booked direct thru Princess Cruises. I've read many negative reviews about Princess Cruises. I have absolutely no idea why people would be unhappy with Princess Cruises. My group of six had the best time of our lives on the Ruby Princess thanks to it's staff and crew. We are looking foward to our next cruise on Princess Cruises. Read Less

We booked with Princess to Alaska as it was our 20th Wedding Anniversary, and our Cabin was decorated to celebrate this, the extra personal touches made us feel extra special. This is our second cruise with Princess. Princess Ruby was fantastic. Our cabin was a mini suite which was spacious and kept spotless by Ricky, food and service at the Bollecceli restaurant was super, excellent customer service from our waiters Gabriella and Miguel, food was delicious and varied. Service was efficient and themed nights great. The staff brought us our a cake and sang to us to celebrate our Anniversary. We enjoyed the two formal evenings and had a relaxing treatment in Lotus spa. Entertainment was good not as good as other cruises we have been on, not a lot of variety. Excursions were very good, loved seeing the Orca killer whales, hump back whales and a lot of wildlife but unfortunately did not see any bears! We had an amazing holiday and would definitely book with Princess again, we had a fantastic holiday experience and loved Alaska. Read Less

My wife and I had an awesome time on the Ruby Princess. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and splurged on a balcony cabin. The weather was unbelievable. Calm seas, warm temperatures, and cloudless skies every day but one. No rain at any time. The cruise director said that the weather was the best that Princess has ever seen on a 7 day Alaska cruise. This was probably overstated, but it would be hard to top it! The ship was very clean, comfortable and well decorated. The shows were good and plentiful enough that we were never bored. We ate in the Horizon/Caribe buffet for breakfast and lunch and the main dining room for dinner. The food was typical for a cruise ship. That is, it was fancy, exotic and well presented. Taste was so-so. Even so, we always enjoy eating on a ship and this was no exception. Service on board was absolutely top notch. The wait staff were always there with a smile and our cabin steward was very efficient and friendly. With all of this said, I would not recommend this cruise for a family. They had activities for younger kids, but not much for the 15-25 crowd. No indoor pool or rock climbing. Princess is targeting an older crowd and they do it well. Read Less

The Ruby Princess and its Crew did not dissapoint. From the moment we entered the port, a wonderful woman named "Reggie" with Princess assisted us and we were some of the first to board. The Ship is beautiful. Very clean and elegant. The food was some of the best I have ever had on a cruise ship and I have 15 others cruises to compare with. The entertainment was fantasic. Las Vegas style shows, exceptional comedians who amused us with improv, magic, and impressions. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and the new bed mattresses and comforters were like silk.. Never slept better on a ship. All of the ships staff were very helpful. The level of service was 4.5 stars.. The fresh water pools and jacuzzis were always clean and the perfect temperature. There were a few children onboard and they never bothered any of the passengers. The huge outdoor LED TV/Movie screen and "Movies Under The Stars" were most enjoyable. Daily concerts from bands like Elton John and Cheryl Crow made every day fun with popcorn and milk and cookies for all... Excellent screen resolution and sound allowed me to sit in one of the Jacuzzis and watch the shows.. Great Movies were shown nightly as well.. The ports on this trip were all wonderful.. Cabo, La Paz, Loreto, and Puerto Vallarta all have a great variety of adventures and fantastic shopping. We loved the Sea or Cortez...We rented cars with a driver and picked out out desired places to visit. We felt safe with tourist police present in all ports. Having a car and driver gave us freedom to do whatever we felt like and the driver was always there to assist. The casino machines were a little tight as expected on a ship.. All kinds of activities could be found, there was always plenty to do on the ship. The cruise director Billy was the best I had ever experienced.. a true showman and professional.. Bravo Princess, I will be back again soon.. The Ruby Princess shines very bright in my eyes !!! Read Less

Background We cruised almost 4 years ago on Costa Fascinosa, we loved this cruise and the beautiful ship! We've been saving up for another cruise ever since! This cruise was enjoyed by my husband and myself, our 3 year old stayed home with my in laws. Hotel We arrived the day before (2/6) and stayed at Four Points by Sheraton LA Westside, it was a 30 minute drive to the port. The Hotel was nice and clean with good service. It was nice to have a mall close by to get any last minute needs. Embarkation Embarkation day was a breeze! The World Cruise Center was organized and very easy to find parking. We arrived 11am, and there was the previous cruise getting off, but the area wasn't overwhelming. We dropped our bags off at with the Porters and proceded to fill out our Health Questionare, we went up the escalator and waited in line for maybe 10 minutes to check in. The check in process was very easy, we were there for no more than 5 minutes. We went through security and the only delay were caused by the confused passengers in front of us. Other than that there were no problems. Oh, no one stopped us to check for our alcohol. We only had 2 bottles total anyways. We waited in the large lounge area for about an hour, we found seats no problem. We were in group 6, and they hadn't started with preferred boarding yet. They had water/coffee to enjoy while you waited and the free wifi had a good connection. We were called and boarded before some people that we met in group 5 . We took our embarkation photo, and vacation had really started! We were greeted by Princess, but not directed to our stateroom which we though was odd. But truly, other than that the process was very smooth. Actvities As there were 3 sea days the cruise directors staff did a great job ! There was always something for everyone, but not too much so you felt like you didn't have time to relax. Lots of demonstrations and gameshows which we enjoyed. Ports We only did a Princess Excursion in Puerta Vallarta, we did the Jungle Zipline Adventure. We had a great time and the whole Vallarta Adventure crew was great! We felt very safe and we had a blast. We walked around and did our own thing in both Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. Mazatlan was a very pretty and quaint little town . We walked to the downtown via the blue line, lots of helpful volunteers! The town was pretty sleepy until 10, but we enjoyed the quiet . Cabo San Lucas was beautiful as well! The Marina was lovely to walk around and we enjoyed looking at the yachts and other boats. However, the people selling glassbottom boats and other souveneirs were really pushy and did not let up. We even saw people being solicited to on the beach, not very relaxing! We understand that this is their living, but it was truly too much. Dining We enjoyed the MDR and room service for breakfast. We loved the food and service for both, it simply depended on our mood. For lunch we typically enjoyed trident grill or the ever flowing pizza! We ate dinner in the MDR everynight, and the food was very very good!! The service was also great, well trained staff. We dined at SHARE the last night, and we LOVED the food, service and atmosphere. The server knew the menu and suggested great wines ( we had the all inclusive package, she still found a great one) we sat in a booth with pillows, that were really comfortable. We appreciate that Princess is making changes and moving forward with more modern dining and food offering. Sure the plates were smaller, but with numerous courses, we left satisfied. His restaurant MAUDE is 199-399 covercharge in Beverly Hills. At only 39$ pp, you can't beat that. Drinks We had the all inclusive package, which was very worth it for us! We had mimosas/cappuccinos/bloody marys in the am. And numerous (4-5) fruity drinks in the afternoon, wine with dinner, and martinis in Crooners after dinner. We did note that the fruity drinks served in the calypso bar, outriggers, were not very strong at all ( we could drink 5 and not really feel a buzz) the martinis were strong and very, very good! Disembarkation Very smooth, very clear, and easy. There were some delays, but nothing that could be helped by Princess and it was only 15 minutes for us. All in all, it was a great cruise and we could do it again! We loved Princess and look forward to many cruises with them in the future. Read Less

We boarded the Ruby Princess on Superbowl Sunday. What a party. All over the ship. It was awesome. Embarkation couldn't have been easier. Were in our cabin by 1:00 and the cruise was awesome. 2 days at sea were very relaxing. Puerta Vallarta is a beautiful stop. The weather as perfect. Mazatlan was equally beautiful. Cabo was the same -- would have liked to be in Cabo longer. The ship is beautiful. The weather was great. The food and service is awesome. Our waiters, Pravin and Raj, knew our preferences by night 2. We couldn't have been happier. We never book excursions through the ship. You can get a cab into PV for $5 a person each way. Even if we get a cab back to the ship. We got off the ship at Mazatlan and picked up an excusion right at the port of 25 a person. It was a 5 hr tour that was really nice. Cabo was good too. We took the boat tour around the bay and after that walked all over the port. It was very nice. The disembarkation was a little chaotic. Even though the ship pulled in at 7:00, we were walkoffs and didn't get off the ship until around 8:15. So plane your flight accordingly. Would I take this cruise again? Definitely. The ship was great. Read Less

We love this cruise because it offers us so much value. Living in Las Vegas it's easy for us to drive to the Los Angeles port on day of departure and avoid hotels, airfare etc. Because of this we've taken this cruise 4 times and enjoyed it. A great tropical getaway in January/February. Regarding Princess ships, always a good experience. We keep coming back because of the food, entertainment and quality service. Very important for us is the CLASSIC cruise ship ambience. By that we mean no carnival rides and gimmicky rock walls, zip lines etc. Just a focus on classic cruise fun with pools, competitions, music, dancing etc. An important feature is also the classic PROMENADE DECK. You know, the one that used to be on all cruise ships with hundreds of outward facing lounge chairs with great ocean views and a way to walk entirely around the ship. Including a huge view to the rear of the ship. Love, love, love this on Princess ships. You feel connected to the ocean. We've tried the Royal Caribbean mega ships and were disappointed. Found ourselves basically cut off from the ocean. Clearly, emphasis at RC is to keep you focused inward towards the shops and restaurants where you'll spend more money. They accomplish this by not having a promenade deck and blocking the rear view with huge stages and generally keeping you occupied with a carnival / mall at sea experience. Why take a cruise if you can’t find the ocean? If you want that, great, have at it but we prefer to have a classic cruise experience without the Mall at Sea atmosphere. Read Less

The first three days were Vancouver to LA and then 15 days to Hawaii for four days. The sea days were great as there so much to do and more activities than anyone could imagine. The staff were extra polite, professional and out of the many cruise we had had with Princess and other lines this was the best, it was the christmas season and the ship was decked out beautifully. Many fun activies for both christmas and New Years. the food was excellent, the ship was very clean and the staff seemed truly engaged in excellent customer service.we were concerned with so many sea days but they turned out be very relaxing. After taking a couple of hours to embark with great excitement we were not disappointed. When we arrived at berth 93 at LA we handed our cases to the porter and next time we saw them they were safely stored outside our cabin. We had a balcony stateroom R342 which whilst not being the biggest room we've ever stayed in it suited us fine. Our porter was a lovely guy called Donato who couldn't do enough for us. Overall the staff onboard were absolutely superb always helpful always available. Before we went on this cruise i read a lot of reviews on this site criticising the food but we found the food ranged from very good to superb.. The entertainment on board tended to cater for the older people even though we are 57 we were among the younger element on board ! We used to go in the fusion bar in the evenings for the band and dj but most nights there was less than 10 people in there ! There was also a nightclub called skywalkers which looked amazing and we were really looking forward to going in there but every night we went in there was a couple of people reading books! What a letdown ! The band onboard were called Castaway who did 3 or 4 gigs a day all over the ship and they were brilliant. We booked anytime dining which was a great decision I couldnt believe that people rushed to the dining rooms like robots for their 5.30 and 7.00 dinner and queued for ages! The restaurants were excellent we used Di Vinci and Leonardo for our formal evenings and the buffet style Horizon restaurant the rest of the time. We also paid $25 per person cover charge to go in the crown grill which was absolutely superb some of the best food I've ever tasted.. There was plenty of bars to use our drinks package card which was also a good decision when drinking expensive cocktails and shorts all evening. The facilities on board were excellent with Zumba classes every morning and an excellent well equipped gym. We paid for 3 of the ships excursions which were very good in Hawaii and one day we just got off and did our own thing. The stop of in Ensanada Mexico on the way back was a total waste of time. We found it run down and scruffy and not a great place to visit. Overall we had a fabulous time and would recommend the Ruby Princess to anyone thinking of going on a cruise. Read Less

Enjoyed stopping at San Francisco and walking along the wharf Santa Barbara was another good walking port of call, charming city The food in the main dining room was excellent each and every night Our table partners were from Hawaii which made for some great conversations We tried the free ice cream on the upper deck, not great but still nice to have The bratwurst though was very good and a great snack, especially when sitting looking out over the ocean. Our room was always cleaned and squared away yet we never saw anybody, ghosts? We could not believe how full the ship was, especially for a November local cruise The staff that we interacted with were always polite and friendly, our dining staff were great. The dining room was very clean with beautiful decor and table settings. We plan on taking another coastal cruise after our cruise to Hawaii. Read Less

My husband and I went on a 7 day Alaskan cruise on the Princess Ruby. We LOVED this ship. Our cabin was large and the queen size bed was VERY comfortable. Our favorite part of the cabin was the balcony, a must have on an Alaskan cruise. My favorite thing was the baked goods and deserts. My mornings began with a steaming, hot cappuccino and 2 warm, homemade almond croissants. YUMMY! We also loved the Crown Grill where we had the most wonderful dinner; grilled scallops, french onion soup, Filet Mignon, Lobster Tail with drawn butter, loaded baked potatoes, 2 baskets of the most wonderful homemade bread, and the best desert we've ever had. The service was perfect! My husband enjoyed the cigar bar and the smoking areas on deck where he met dozens of wonderful people from all over the world. We loved our excursions, which were the Duck tour in Ketchikan, the Gold mining (Soot out to our guild Kai) and Salmon bake in Juneau (a bear came in for some marsh mellows, thrilling!), and the Wilderness Safari in Skagway. The scenery on the Safari was unmatched. The service on this ship was amazing, we really did feel like royalty. Read Less

Thai, our head waiter was simple superb and Menardo our waiter was johnny-on-the-spot. We would recommend Ruby Princess to all our friends in a heartbeat! So much to do we could not fit it all in this trip, so MUST go again!!!! Hopefully very soon, it was a total blast! Entertainment was really enjoyable. Loved singing in the Pop choir. My husband and I (now in our 60s) had always been too busy to vacation much. When we decided the time was right to do that, we chose BIG. For us, that was a cruise around Alaska. We chose a cruise line that was noted for its wonderful cruises in Alaska, and that was Princess. We made a great choice. We were on the Ruby Princess with its beautiful cabins, terrific food, and detailed service. Every Princess staff member was courteous and helpful. We took the Inside Passage from Princess and were thrilled with the itinerary. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. We enjoyed the two formal nights. I was surprised that more people were not dressed for the evening, but those that did looked lovely. In a world of jeans and tee-shirts, it was a great opportunity to play "dress-up" and lent an air of romance to our nights. We took our breakfasts and lunches onboard at the Horizon Buffet. Even though there were thousands of people onboard, we never had a sense of that. The one time the seating was crowded, other passengers were friendly enough to offer us seats at their table. We found the food to be very plentiful and good. Food that was supposed to be hot was, food that was supposed to be cold was, as well. I never felt I was in danger of getting sick. Food handlers wore gloves, there was hand sanitizers outside the buffet and the dining rooms, the plates were inverted, and a staff person was there to keep an eye on things. We had chosen our excursions online at home. That was a wise decision for us, as we had plenty of time to read about our choices. The excursions Princess offered were varied in both time and energy. The ones we took were exactly as described. The tour guides were knowledgeable and very pleasant. We loved getting up early to sail through the Tracey Arm Fjord. The trip could not have been any smoother, the water reflected the mountains with barely a ripple felt. Even in the glorious land of Alaska, the most magical moments for us were in the Crooners Lounge listening to Ray Coussins sing and play the piano. The talent that flowed from his fingers gave us such pure joy. Mr. Coussins, a longtime piano player for Frank Sinatra, sang and played a full repertoire of his songs. In addition, Mr. Coussins played his version of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" that had the most "Fascinating Rhythm." What surprised us was how receptive Mr. Coussins was to his audience. He played requests that came from the audience, and he was happy to talk people after his set. Ray Coussins could be the "poster child" for the Princess slogan, "Come Back New." He had a unique ability to reach the members of his audience, cascade them with melodies, and take them to places where they forgot they had been. He mattered to people because he actually made a difference in their lives. His disarming way and his unparalleled ability to use music to evoke a myriad of emotions in people truly enabled passengers, not only to come back new, but come back better, much better. Mr. Ray Coussins was the diamond in a sparkling array of gems on the Ruby Princess. Read Less

We stayed one night in Long Beach at the Hyatt Regency, not many restaurants around. Embarkation was great. We liked our cabin, Full suite C751, first time in this suite and room is identical to Penthouse Suites. Balcony was narrow and beam right outside bedroom door did obstruct view and too hard to go out as lounge chair in the way. We did have plenty of room to use the balcony dining table. The lounge chairs did not go back, but we're stationary, we didn't like that, but was to hard to climb around beams to get to other lounge chair. There is a beam out the living space as well, but wasn't an issue for us. Thought this room because of lack of balcony and lounge chair usage is overpriced. Really miss the bathroom in Full Suites, better storage in all other class of cabins. We had wonderful staff. We had Brian and Rowena Vasquez as our Hawaiian Ambassadors and definitely are our favorite! Learned so much and so much fun learning Ukelele from Brian. Appreciated learning "authentic" hula from Rowena. Both are so nice to be around, we hope to sail with them again, our first of 3 cruises with them. Brian is so talented and loved hearing his Santana style on the Uke as well. The seas were rough-again and weather was not great until day before getting to the islands, this was expected and with lots to onboard we did not miss being outside. Pools were on the cool side. We loved the "beach break excursions" offered by Princess on Honolulu and Maui, highly recommend. Remember Waikiki beach in Honolulu is all non-smoking! The food, service and entertainment was excellent everywhere on the ship. Another great Princess cruise! Read Less

We flew into LAX and did the transfer which was fine as they checked you into the cruise at the hotel which was convenient; I would have considered flying into Long Beach airport which is closer but no airlines offered a direct flight from our city, and I like to keep things as simple as possible when I travel. Almost everything about this trip was great - the Cruise Director staff was terrific, specialty dining was good, although the Crab Shack was a bit disappointing. The one area that we found lacking was the Main Dining room menu. We sailed on the Royal in January and the menu selections were virtually identical. I was hoping the Chef had something original or more Hawaiian dishes. Understandably, this cruise was not the norm for the Ruby so I get that they didn't have an abundance of Hawaiian decor, entertainment or cuisine, but some additions here and there would have been nice. Our cabin location was terrific - L250. I really liked that you can just step our the door and be on deck within a few feet. Now I am a Lido deck devotee. Regarding the Sanctuary - they need to do some work to block the wind on sea days - too cold on the Pacific to hang out up there. The Ruby did look in need of a facelift however, there were lots of dented cabin doors due to scooters and some finishes needed a little freshening up - like the drapes in some of the public areas. I must commend the Cruise Director staff - they were the best staff we have encountered - Chad, Bianca, George, Romeo and Tess were a blast and we have not seen such a great band as Passion on a cruise in about 4 years. Well done Ruby. The shore excursions for this trip were really expensive - suggest using toursbylocals.com - we did and our guide for Hilo was great. Also, the deck waiters at the Neptune pool (Marlon and Rowyn) were great - they provided service not sales which was a pleasure. Overall this is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable cruises we have taken. One final tip - stay on the ship at Ensenada. Read Less

My husband and I have been on 8 cruises and this was our first Princess cruise. We had a wonderful trip on the 15 night Hawaii cruise on the beautiful Ruby Princess. Upon arrival at the cruise port, we felt it was a bit unorganized with all of the luggage porters roaming about and mobs of excited vacationers with luggage trying to track down a luggage porter. There was absolutely no organization. It would be nice if someone from Princess was outside by the luggage drop off to organize lines. Once we were able to get our luggage on a porters cart, the rest of the boarding process went smoothly. We were in a mini suite on Emerald Deck 8, cabin E731. It was a wonderful suite if you don't mind the back of the ship. We did have rough seas a few nights and definitely felt the motion while trying to walk around the ship and while trying to sleep. We were not bothered by this motion but knew we were rocking. We had Anytime Dining and this was the first cruise for us where we had this option. We enjoyed the freedom to eat whenever we wanted. We always seemed to eat after 8pm and never had a wait for a table. Service was good. We also decided to eat dinner in the Horizon Court a few nights. We enjoyed every meal we had on the ship from main dining rooms to the pizza parlor, International Cafe, Carib Cafe and the Trident grill. We didn't have a chance to eat in the speciality restaurants on the ship but heard several other passengers say they were wonderful. We went to most of the after Dinner shows and thought they were all good. We enjoyed all of the activity in the Exploreres Lounge most every night. We spent a lot of time in the casino and thought the staff and all the passengers at the 3 card poker table were wonderful. We had such a great time in the casino with all of them. We thought the ship was beautiful, however, we did feel it was time for cabin updates. Our cabin was in desperate need of new mattresses, new pillows, new curtains, new couch, new carpet and the sliding glass doors and the balcony glass needed a good cleaning in the worst way. We put the glass doors and balcony glass cleaning on every comment card we were given. I sure hope that was done for the next passengers. Our cabin did show it's age but we did not let it dampen our cruise experience or our fun. The layout was nice and the amount of storage and closet space was wonderful. Disembarking was a breeze. It happened so smooth and efficiently and that is all I can say about it. All in all our cruise was excellent and I highly recommend this Hawaii cruise round trip out of Los Angeles and I recommend Princess. Read Less

"Oh, you are the Hammann's? You have been upgraded!" OK. I'm not an idiot. I realize that getting upgraded is fairly standard. However, don't we all love to hear that phrase? It put a smile on my wife's face as well as mine and set the tone for our 20th wedding anniversary cruise. We arrived at 2:00 as suggested by our boarding pass. It literally took about 5 minutes to get through the check-in process. We stood for about three minutes behind on family and then was instructed to move to a quicker line by an attendant. We were greeted, given our cruise cards and moved on to the ship. Quick and easy! We had reserved an obstructed view stateroom and were upgraded to a balcony stateroom. We were excited to see our room. Both of us had never cruised before so we were enjoyed each and every step of the process. From the name tag on the room to the greeting from Jeffrey, our steward, we were amazed at the service. The food and food service was top of the line. We loved our meal times. Not only were we served amazing food, we established some great relationships with the servers who come from all corners of the world. While I haven't been on other cruises so I cannot compare, I suspect that it would be hard to beat what Princess offers in this area. We dined using the anytime dining package which offered a great amount of flexibility. The balcony cabin we were booked into was amazing. It offered amazing views. The bed was comfortable. Our steward, Jeffrey, was efficient and stealthy! It took some getting used to the two a day service plan on our rooms but once we had the system down it was great. The 2015 New year celebration was great. We had a great time hanging out with people of all nations. This was a memory for a lifetime. I certainly would sail Princess again! Read Less

Please note this is my first cruise and thanks to all of the previous ruby princess reviews which lead me to select this ship. My fiancé and I traveled on the April 17 Western Caribbean cruise from the frozen tundra of Washington DC. Took the princess bus from Miami (cheaper than supershuttle/taxi from Miami). Embarkation was a breeze and we were in the room in no time at all. I was worried from reading the review about the rooms/bathrooms since I am a big guy (6'6 270+). The shower was tight but I was able to maneuver just fine and thought the bathrooms are designed well for such a small space. I also was concerned about the bed size but it is bigger than a Queen and smaller than a king...similar width to a California king bed but not as long (good sized). The room was nice and the balcony was plenty of space for two people. We are in our late 30's and I thought there was a good mix of people from 20-70. Most people looked in there 40-60 range. We hung out at the main pools for fun and swam at the adults only terrace pool at the back. We didn't see the need to hang out at the sanctuary as I never felt it was that crowded. The Casino was fun and we ended up getting the drink package ($49 each per day) which was reasonable and also included unlimited bottle water. We were situated on deck 12 which made it easy to go two flights to the lido deck/pool and easy to walk down to the piazza. The reviews are correct on the Princess Pizza which is thin and similar to NYC style pizza; Delicious. We tried the Crab Shack pop up on the day it was offered and loved the king crab and popcorn shrimp. Crown grill was really nice and we enjoyed the MDR as well. All the meals I had were great. The design is really nice and made for a very relaxing time. My fiance enjoyed her spa day but it is pricey (even by downtown DC standards). I enjoyed the in room tv movie options which ran very recent movies (Saving Mr. Banks, The Hobbit 2, Man of Steel, etc). It was relaxing to chill in the room and stare out the balcony door to the ocean. Movies under the stars were fun and we did that two evenings. The dance parties were also fun at night time. My knock: I could only work out on the bike's in the fitness center since I would hit my head on the treadmill or elliptical machine (if your under 6'3 your probably fine). However I am a runner so I noticed many runners using deck 7/8 (front of the ship you go upstairs to 8 then back down to 7) to run around the ship during off hours (5 laps to a mile). I was able to run for 30 mins when the ship was docked in Cozumel. They probably discourage you from running on deck 7 during sea days and prime hours. Ports: Grand Cayman; We skipped the excursions and took an 8 buck cab to the Royal Palm beach club and had a wonderful time chilling out on the beach. Cozumel; we checked out the port but stayed on the ship and relaxed. All in all a wonderful time and I wouldn't hesitate to book a cruise on Princess again.   Read Less

My boyfriend and I choose to take our first cruise this March, after researching all the possible cruise lines we choose Princess. Nothing but good things too say about this trip. The food was excellent, between the constant buffet, the main dining room and the little grills poolside. Our room which was upgraded from a balcony room to a mini suite a week before we embarked and I have to say we we're very pleased! Our "bellboys" name was Micheal, he served us hand and foot, anything and everything we needed at all hours of the day/night, we was great! Evenings when we dined in the Da Vinci dining room we had a waiter name Mersal and his assistant Victoria, always conversed and made dinner for us a great time every night. The casino was a great time and a great place to meet new people, which we did and again I have to say the bartenders Roy and Merlin were always happy to serve my boyfriend and I. Grand Turk was BEAUTIFUL and a great place to shop. We did the Snorkeling and Sting Ray Excursion while we were there, it was wonderful the tour guides made you feel safe in the ocean and brought lots of smiles and laughs to our faces while on this excursion. The shopping at Grand turk was good, a little expensive but HEY your a tourist that's what happens right? We also visited Princess Cays on this trip, now any future cruisers on this agenda, do all your shopping at Grand Turk because Princess Cays is a day designed for you to just relax on the beach, which is exactly what we did. Overall an excellent vacation, excellent cruiseline, we will be back for another getaway soon! Read Less

My adult son and I traveled aboard the Ruby Princess last week from Port Everglades to Princess Cays and Grand Turk, returning to Port Everglades on Saturday. The ship, the itinerary, the timing...all were exactly as advertised and exactly what we wanted. We arrived in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday and spent the night at the W Hotel on the beach...it was adequate in terms of room and location, but lacking in service. We checked out Monday morning and took a cab to the cruise port where we easily boarded the ship...no waiting, no hassles. Embarkation was hassle free and quick. We had left our large suitcases with the porters who met our cab, so we dropped our small bags in our room (more about that later) and had a lovely lunch in the Horizon cafe. Then we began exploring the ship. The ship is lovely - beautifully decorated and delightfully clean. It took us a little while to figure out where the attractions were, as they're a bit spread out. Eventually we found the spa, the theater, the restaurants, the late-night lounge and the various bars/entertainment venues. Nice surprises were the two small pools...one inside the spa area for adults only but available to all adults, not just spa guests. That area also led to The Sanctuary which I loved for its comfort, service and shaded lounge chairs. The other small pool is on the rear of the ship just outside the buffet...we often took our breakfast or lunch out there and ate al fresco. Now to our cabin...we had selected a balcony cabin on the rear of the ship (C753) and it was exactly what we expected...large enough for two of us and with a larger-than-average very private covered balcony with great views of the ship's wake. The bathroom was quite small (especially the shower) but we knew in advance and were prepared for it. Our cabin steward, Romeo, was practically psychic in caring for us...he seemed to know exactly when we'd be out and what we'd need upon our return. Even if we left for just a few minutes, on return he would have been in to refresh towels, neaten our clothing and replace ice in our ice bucket. We were never bored and in every venue we found the service to be friendly and quick. We played several rounds (and types) of trivia; listened to various musicians and attended most of the evening shows in the Princess Theater. We had fun and there's a 33-year difference in our ages, so I'd recommend this cruise for any adult. We used tenders to get to Princess Cays, and since we didn't leave the ship until about noon, we needed no ticket...just walked right onto a tender and were ashore in a very few minutes. We had reserved a clamshell for the beach, and had to do a bit of walking to find one that was available but once settled we enjoyed the visit very much...it was a perfect day of sun and moderate temperature (about 75-80 F) so we read, walked the beach and enjoyed the drinks service in our clamshell. The return to the ship by tender was also uncomplicated - no waiting. Some people complained about the rolling of the tender in the rather large swells and maybe they should stay ashore instead of cruising! Our days at sea were marked by perfect weather and gracious service. The other port, Grand Turk, was a short walk down the pier...we did not book an excursion choosing instead to take advantage of all the amenities available at Margaritaville...huge, clean pool with lounge chairs, beach with chairs, restaurant and friendly drinks service. The only negative here was the relatively high price of the adult beverages...two regular margaritas cost $25 with tip. We chose to dine each evening in the dining room and had signed up for anytime dining. We missed the memo that assigned us to the Michelangelo Dining Room and showed up at Botticelli's the first two nights where the Maitre D'Hotel graciously found a table for us without telling us we were in the wrong place! In fact, he was SO pleasant and accommodating we greatly enjoyed meeting him later outside the restaurant. By the third night, we found out about the anytime dining room (Michelangelo's) and met some lovely fellow travelers while enjoying our leisurely dinners. When the final morning came, as it inevitably does, we prepared to leave the Ruby Princess with great sadness. As directed, we vacated our cabin, wandered up to the Lido Deck for a cup of coffee then moved to the assigned lounge to wait for our color to be called. When it was called, we walked down one deck to the gangway, immediately found our luggage and moved through customs and out to the bus that took us to the airport with barely a pause. It was probably the most well-organized debarkation I've ever experienced. This was my fifth cruise with Princess, and I've also sailed with many of her competitors. I will be sailing with Princess again when the itinerary, price and timing are right. No complaints and lots of compliments for the ship, the crew and all the details. Read Less

We sailed in January 2014 for 2 5 day cruises back to back. One to Eastern Carribbean and the 2nd to Western.....We had sailed previously on the Emerald Princess and enjoyed that ship immensely and knew that the Ruby would be the same type of layout. Embarkation was a breeze and did not take long at all...The only hiccup we had was the transfer from the Hotel to the pier, as they apparently forgot about us and our Princess Rep had to call to get the bus to come and get us. Once on board, we made our way to our room, and found our luggage inside our room already, and we were promptly greeted by our room steward (Marian) who went over important issues with us. He took care of us and the room throughout the 2 cruises wonderfully. Food on board was fantastic. We choose the anytime dining and had a great time sampling a lot of different dishes. We are Ballroom Dancers and were happy to see, that they had given us some dance time between 5pm and 8pm in Club Fusion, even with canned music, we enjoyed it thoroughly. We were disappointed with Sea Days where they made our practice time disappear, and only had a dance lesson (for Beginners) and there was no practice time after the lesson... Sea days were a little boring at times. I attended a seminar for Good Feet, however did not realize it was just a sales pitch to sell us Good Feet insoles. We did enjoy attending some of the sales on board and picked up some watches and T Shirts.... Theatre shows were excellent and we enjoyed some of the bands in the Explorers Lounge. Ship staff were always helpful and courteous.... We enjoyed using the pools on the ship, as well as the adult only areas at the rear of the ship... We were a little disappointed with when first getting on board, and throughout the cruise, we were always asked if we wanted a drink, from staff carrying around drinks, but they always had the pads at the ready to charge it to your room card, so we learned to first ask if the drink was no charge..... Pizza and Ice Cream on board were great when you needed a extra treat....   Read Less

Left on a 5 day Princess cruise onboard Ruby from Ft Lauderdale. Reason I went was because of the promotion they are having for a free cruise since I am booked with them on a 7day cruise to Alaska in May of this year. We had sailed on princess once before and had loved it. We especially like their movies under the stars venue. Embarkation was pretty fast, we arrived at terminal at 2:30 pm so most of the crowds had gotten on ship already. Pros: Nice ship, had 5 pools which I liked, and also the ports of call. Room steward was good, room very clean except for the carpet, showed wear but clean. Rooms nice in size and so was balcony. Cons: very small showers, smallest Ive ever seen and we have been on alot of cruises with all the diff cruise lines. A large person def would not fit in there. Food was average in the Lido Deck but very good at their 2 restaurants. Never went to the pay restaurants. I noticed on this cruise that we had a hard time/language barrier with most of the crew. Most of them did not understand us. Also some of the crew not very friendly/serviceable like in other cruises we have taken. One major con: The itinarry was changed and we were not informed. When I asked the front desk about it, they said they could chg itinarry if need be but did not give us reason why. If I had booked a private tour on cozumel like I wanted to it would have royally messed me up since we were suppose to be there on tuesday and arrived there monday. I usually book all my tours through independent and not the cruise lines, thank heavens they were all sold out for the tour I wanted to take. We originally were suppose to have been in cayman on monday and cozumel on tuesday. We were in cozumel on monday and in cayman on tuesday; also the hours on the islands was cut short. I have been on alot of cruises and never has the itinarry change. Weather was great(not a factor) and seas were smooth. If you visit Cayman you must do the stingray/beach tour which is awesome and the highlight. Book thru independent and save money. In cozumel we booked the Salsa and Salsa tour which was great. I was surprised to find out that this tour is only offered thru the cruise line (nobody had mention this). I love Princess' under the Stars theatre. We got to watch the Playoffs all day sunday while in the pool and got to see many movies/concerts under the stars. They give you blankets, popcorn, cookies, love it. Didnt get to see most of the shows because we hung out mainly in the casino, but the comedian was good. All in all it was a great cruise and I would def recommend Princess and the Ruby.   Read Less
