Took a 7 day inside passage cruise to Alaska stopping in Juneau, Skagway, sailing through beautiful Glacier Bay, Ketchikan then Victoria Canada. Especially enjoyed Skagway with its goldrush history and Glacier Bay is absolutely stunning Beautiful, clean ship. We had the inside cabin and was delighted with the size, especially storage space for personal items. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, food was great, and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Especially enjoyed the afternoon tea time with scones and finger foods. You will have to pay for upgrades to dine in specialty restaurants and connect to wi-fi as with any other cruise line I imagine. As far as entertainment, we saw a couple of musical type shows which had some pretty amazing talent to be performing on a cruise ship. Also attended a couple of comic shows that were outstanding! Must do trip. Will definitely choose Princess again!! Read Less

We had an amazing vacation. Meet some very neat people. Looking forward to keeping in touch with them. The ship was clean and beautiful. Food in the Horizon Court was always really good. The best meal we had was at Curtis Stone Share! Go there and eat, you will not be disappointed. The Casino was fun we won some and lost some but overall it was fun. The artwork was pretty, not my style but nice to look at. We got the coffee card, but could have done without it. The coffee in the Horizon was just as good and free :). Soft serve ice cream was perfect, my hubby's favorite. :) We had great weather, only rained in Juneau. We did a little shopping in Juneau. We did the train ride in Skagway, that was beautiful. I would go again! Glacier Bay was beautiful, so peaceful and relaxing, we did see a portion of the glacier break but did not get pictures. The Lumber Jack Show in Ketchikan was really cute and fun, great for the family! We did the Pedi-Cab ride in Victoria, BC, I recommend seeing the city this way. The stop in Victoria is short and Pedi-Cab makes it to where you see the whole city in 2 1/2 hours. So you still have time to shop if you want. Overall the best vacation we have taken in years. We are looking forward to our next cruise, I really want to got to New England & Canada cruise. Read Less

We where searching for a cruise line that we would enjoy the ship, destinations, food and the overall feel of the experience.the staff was very friendly. The ultimate ship tour and the chefs table where great add ons to the trip to alaska. The staff in share, crown grill, and the salty dog gastro pub. Made for so wonderful nights. Alaska took our breathe away from the morning we approached juneau till we departed ketchikan. The shore excursions we took where great. We will be returning. Ruby princess was a great ship for being at full capacity it did not feel crowded. We where on deck 15 forward. The cabin was nice and quite during the night and mornings. The view from the other decks made evening walks a joy. The dining anytime option made for fun and interesting dining groups. The photo package we purchased worked out very well for us. This was a cruise we will smile about when we remember this lovely trip. Read Less

Booking a Club Class Mini Suite entitled us to priority embarkation - the process could not have been quicker or smoother. We had both red and white wine (half bottle of each) in our room on arrival, canapes on request, and the cabin was superior in both comfort and layout (see cabin review below for more detail). The ship was easy to navigate and never seemed crowded, even in the most public places! There was something for everyone in terms of entertainment, whether it be bingo, trivia, comedy etc. Of particular note is the very talented Pianist Liam Stewart who performed most evenings in Crooners Bar. The highlight of our cruise was undoubtedly the Club Class dining experience. Absolutely 'anytime dining' in a separate area of the main dining room, with dedicated Maitre D and wait staff who displayed impeccable customer service, and who made the experience very pleasurable indeed. The food was of a very high standard, presented beautifully and in a timely manner, with such delicious offerings as Lobster tail. The bar has been set rather high, and now that we have experienced Club Class dining (in fact Club Class sailing) it will be very hard to book a lower category in future. Read Less

I booked our honeymoon a year in advance and we decided to splurge on a suite for our honeymoon. I have spent hours reading reviews and suggestions on Cruise critic so I will try to give back by covering the different aspects of a Ruby Princess Cruise, both good and bad. Because we had a suite the embarkation process was great. We got on board around 3:30. We had reservations for Crown Grill (free because we were in a suite) so we didn’t want to eat too much. Cabin-Our cabin D737 was great. So nice to have a large cabin on a cruise. We were completely aft which I worried about having to walk too far, but it wasn’t bad and the view was amazing. I have to say for 2 people my husband and I agreed the suite wasn’t necessary. However , we did love the perks from the suite. The nightly canopees were too fancy for us, so we didn’t order anymore. Liked the daily fruit. We told our steward exactly what we wanted in the fruit delivery. Also asked for ice and bottled water every evening. Food- this was the biggest disappointment. My husband and are are not fancy eaters. That’s one reason I chose Princess. My last princess cruise I found the food constantly good and not too fancy. This time the food was mediocre to tasteless. The buffet had a large variety but the food was wasn’t good. I did love the breakfast buffett. I had French toast, bacon, fruit, oatmeal everyday. We did order room service breakfast a few days and I still went up to the buffet for more. For lunch we ate in the Club Class dining room. That was very nice for lunch. I had a hamburger from Salty Dog Grill by the pool (different from the Salty Dog Grill Cafe that you pay for) it was okay. Crown Grill for dinner was worth it. Service and food were excellent. We ate in the dining room for dinner 2x . Again the food and service was good. Horizon Buffett has a lot of variety, but the food wasn’t good. Entertainment- the magician was excellent. The big production the second to the last night was great. My husband and I didn’t find the comedian funny at all, we left early. My husband enjoyed the lounge singers each night. We did the deluxe ship tour $ 150 per person. We loved it. Very interesting and a great swag bag. Skagway zip lining at Grizzly Fallswas fantastic. Glacier Bay was disappointing . Not Princess’s fault. I visited it years ago, there were not really any impressive views. I kept telling my husband just wait. Then the announcement came on that we were leaving. I couldn’t believe that was all. Overall, we won’t be sailing Princess anytime soon. We plan on trying another company. Keep in mind, these are just our opinions. I’m sure people loved the food and entertainment. I’ll answer any questions you may have about the Ruby or having a suite . Read Less

Because we wanted to see Alaska and it was our first cruise and it was our 40th anniversary and we wanted to go on a cruise. The food was excellent and the waiters was really nice. Everything on the Ruby Princess was great, you had, movie nights and theater and dances. You 4 different swimmingft pools and hot tubs and you had great coffee. We thought Alaska cruise would be fun because, everyone says it is a really great cruise to go on and you had a lot to do at each port. We couldn't fit everything in 1 cruise, so we plan on making 3 to 4 more cruises and maybe we will see everything that we wanted to see. If you have never been on a cruise, I suggest the Alaska cruise because it is so beautiful up there and the wife love it. Thank you for everything that the Ruby Princess did for us and the crew members took great care of us. Read Less

I am looking forward to cruising with Princess again in the future. As first time cruisers, my husband and I were simply amazed at the wonderful experince we had on Princess. We were really impressed about the type of people in the ship. It was a crowd filled with older people and responsible young adults with children. We felt completely safe in the boat. There were no drunk people misbehaving in the boat. Safety was a big concern to us and our agent recommended Princess Ruby for that reason and we were not disappointed. The disembarkation procedure was perfectly carried out. Everyone selected a desired time to disembark from a given choice. The process was very orderly and extremely safe. The Ports and Shore excursions disembarkation procedure were orderly organized. The ship and cabin were extremely clean and the cleaning crew were constantly at work everywhere. Saving the best for last, the dinning experience was beyond amazing! There was so much variety. The food was excellent and so was the dinning crew. They served great food and waited on you as royalty. The specialty dinning available in the ship lived up to the reputation of being special. The food and service were also great. Next, time, I plan to skip the specialty dinning because the food Ruby Princess serves in the dinning room is equally great1 They served lobster tail and crab legs in the regular dinning rooms. I cannot say enough good things about the ship and crew. The ship entertainment could be better though. They need more variety and a better representation of different races. Read Less

We chose Princess to Alaska because 20 years ago we sailed the same cruise for our honeymoon. Having set our expectations during the first cruise, we were disappointed to find that smoking is still allowed in so many areas of the ship. It was impossible to enjoy any of the outside decks, or even our private balcony, due to second-hand tobacco smoke. Even worse, apparently smoking is allowed within the event horizon of the fresh air intake manifold and our stateroom was intermittently inundated with the smell of smoke, making it untenable. Repeated requests to address the situation were fruitless. We were finally offered compensation but then were given a smaller amount than promised as a credit on our account. One does not expect great value from a cruise -- everything is overpriced -- but no amount of compensation will offset our ruined 20th-anniversary cruise experience. Another issue was with the online booking of spa services. The online description was quite a departure from the actual service we encountered. The staff at the spa acknowledged the difference, even saying that this had been the same for other guests who had reserved the same service. However, they were not authorized to refund the money, so we paid extra for an upgrade and, in the end, we received services that would have cost a quarter of the amount at home. This is our last cruise with Princess unless they have a non-smoking cruise option. PS: The scones at high tea used to be freshly made from scratch with NO RAISINS and were served with a selection of jams other than raspberry. What's the world coming to?! Read Less

Let's be honest - Alaska pretty much sells itself. We could have been on a tugboat and still fallen in love with Alaska. But, that being said, there are still a few things to point out about this ship. Embarkation out of Seattle was a dream. We arrived via uber and 45 minutes later we were in our cabin WITH OUR SUITCASES. Seriously - it was amazing. We did anytime dining and therefore always sat with a different group of people. We tend to prefer the dining hall to the upstairs buffet. the food was excellent in both places but there were some challenges and room for improvement. The chairs are very small. I am a larger woman and I can say the chairs are probably smaller than an airplane seat. I can sit pretty comfortably in an airplane seat but I could not in the dining room or the buffet. So, if you have a big butt, beware. The service in the buffet was pretty bad. You sit and wait for coffee and OJ and every time we had the same experience - we cruise the floor for a long time trying to find an open space. We finally find something and there is no silverware so we need to steal it from another table. Then, halfway through our meal, someone would come by with drinks. It's a terrible system and one of the reason we preferred the dining hall. the boat was very clean and nice. the common areas were beautiful and I really liked the decor. I was not too impressed with the entertainment or shows, however. Besdies, the chairs in the theater were worse than the the dining hall. Seriously, I'm about 250 lbs and I could not fit into the theater chair. I had to sit with my butt skootched all the way up. This is my 8th cruise (first on princess) and I've never had this sort of trouble with the seating. The shore excursions were all wonderful. Great ports, great itinerary, beautiful and breathtaking scenes. Hope you enjoy it! Read Less

We had a wonderful cruise because Alaska is gorgeous, however the Ruby was the worst ship I've sailed on. Not only does the ship appear old and tired, so does much of the crew. Our steward didn't address us by name, so if that's your thing, good luck. Personally, it doesn't matter to me. I'm more concerned about having service, like ice in the cabin, without having to beg a few times. It took 3 days for pre-purchased alcohol to get delivered to our cabin. The flowers finally made it on day 4. Air conditioning seems pretty basic and certainly expected in a premium aft-facing balcony. No, it's wasn't. Four phones calls, three techs, and finally we were told that would just be the temperature of the room. Never thought we would literally sweat all night on an Alaskan cruise. So, if air conditioning is high on your list, look elsewhere because sleeping on the balcony for cold air is miserable. The food...well, it's there and usually lukewarm. You pay extra for the good food. We did have the $100.00 balcony dinner and that was awesome. I can't comment on the MDR because we never went. On all other cruises, the stewards are like ninjas. You walk out your cabin for an hour and POOF, your cabin is refreshed and the bed made. Our bed was made 5 times on a 12 day cruise. I told y'all the crew seemed tired. I can say that the big suite next to us seemed to always have their door open with the steward in there. Lucky dog. Anyway, I know that I forgot a lot because this looks much too pleasant. Oh, it's a 2ft square shower with a non adjustable shower head. Take a good bath before you leave and when you get home. Not sure how a large person fits in there. Definitely can't shave legs. No, I'm never going back on Princess. Never, ever. I've sailed Holland America, Norwegian, Carnival and Princess is absolutely last place. Read Less

For our 50th anniversary, we took a 12-day Princess cruise to Alaska originating in Los Angeles. From the moment we stepped aboard the 5-star Ruby Princess, we were surrounded by helpful, smiling faces of staff. Our balcony room gave us a wonderful view and fresh air throughout our cruise. The bed was SO comfortable with cozy Egyptian linens. Our cabin Steward, Christopher, was so helpful and attentive. The ship holds about 3500 guests and about 1500 very service oriented staff- which is a nice size and ratio. The restaurant meals were fresh and fabulous with very attentive waiters. There were fresh food options 24- hours a day! We enjoyed the flexibility of "anytime" dining. The entertainment was nonstop. We especially enjoyed the nightly musical shows in the Princess Theater. They have very talented performers- bands, singers and dancers. The different lounges also had good entertainment and often dancing. The casino is spacious and has lots of variety, including blackjack tournaments which are really fun! The gym provides nice machines with an amazing view! We especially enjoyed the tram excursion in Juneau and the train in Scagway. We plan to fly to Anchorage on our next Alaskan trip to explore the more northern regions and to do a land tour to Denali. We highly recommend Princess cruises without reservation! We look forward to our next Princess cruise!! The 12 days flew by!! Read Less

Watch you tube reviews of different ships before making your choice. Cruising costs a good chunk, but it should be well worth it. Alaska and it's ports were well worth it. However, ship staff, buffet, anytime dining, staterooms and staff helpful/friendliness fell flat. If you do choose to cruise with Princess, I highly recommend opting for club class. It's a little extra, but the perks are worth it. The dining alone is worth it. Club Class wait staff were exceptional and friendly. They always made us feel like guests. The food was excellent. I'm Italian and I'm usually leery of red sauce. Their sauce knocked my socks off. We never had a wait or a bad meal in CC. We often walked past anytime dining and saw long wait times. Important, if you want to catch excursions/shows. Don't waste your calories at the pub lunch. Fish fry was heavy and soggy. If you're going to pay an extra $29 pp in the Crown Grill Steakhouse, get the filet or the surf and turf. Filet in the dining rooms is great. Cooked perfectly every time. The buffet is a completely other story. They have hand sanitizing stations at the beginning of each line, but I hardly saw anyone use it or staff insisting people use it. There was never any seating in the main buffet room. You often had to walk around all the dining areas to find a seat for more than 2 people. Wait staff are there and milling about, but rarely are they helpful or offer to bring water (this is supposed to be a Princess buffet perk). The only time the buffet staff was available to help was when staff, in white coats, were present. I'm assuming they were supervisors. Staff serving the food were not nice. The international cafe staff was not nice, annoyed even. Steer clear of the EFFY store, even if they are offering free jewelry. It's not worth it. The Effy manager was high pressure, unfriendly and made us feel like we were wasting her time. The jewelry is overpriced costume. As luck of the draw, we had a Princess musician staying next to us. He played his guitar a couple of times, on the balcony next to us, and that was a wonderful bonus. The Lou Gazzara shows were great. He and the band were great entertainers. Stateroom was really outdated. The bathroom was spacious, but dilapidated with missing and cracked tiles. There is a shower curtain, which I abhor. It sticks to you and if you maneuver it, you'll get water all over the floor. I had to shift the shower head all the way to the side to avoid cleaning the bathroom floor. The view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony itself was outdated. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The couch, chairs and balcony furniture is not. Trust me, I tried to catch the northern lights from my balcony for a few hours one night. The lounge chairs are not meant to lounge for long periods of time. The steward was efficient and timely. He was pleasant, but barely spoke to us. I don't remember his name, so that tells you something. We've cruised twice with Royal Caribbean and the steward was one of our favorite people on the ship! Overall, the ship staff was lacking, often times unfriendly and annoyed and couldn't be bothered. The exception to this was club class dining. Really, Club Class staff were really great. Although we paid for the friendliness. Overall it was an unforgettable trip. But Alaska is astonishingly beautiful in it's own right. The local people are great and very welcoming. We had a blast everytime we were off the ship. We booked a Viator, an Alaskan Shorline and a Princess excursion. All were great and worth the price. We traveled with our family, all adults, and made some priceless memories . My advice is to really research the ship and read reviews. I would absolutely 100% recommend an Alaskan Cruise that cruises through Glacier bay. The ship is up to you. Even with perks offered, if we cruise princess again, I would try another cruise line, just to compare. Happy Sailing! Read Less

It was a great deal and affordable for ys to bring our daughter and new son-in-law on their first cruise. We attended many of the onboard activities including Once Upon A Dream. What a fantastic production. The crab legs at the original Tracy’s Crab Shack were incredible and Joshua loves Tracy, loves working at the crab shack and was very attentive to us! What a joy to meet someone who thoroughly enjoys his job! Made our Juneau stop totally worth the wait as we had to postpone the port stop due to high winds and rough currents. The captain was calm and explained that issue in detail to keep all the staff and passengers in the loop. We were lucky enough to attend the chefs dinner and were treated like royalty by all the staff but especially by the chef and maitre’d. The food was delicious and the details of each dish made me want to go home and try the recipes myself! The next day we received additional treats delivered to our stateroom from the maitre’d as a thank you for attending the dinner. It was us who should be doing the thanking! It was an excellent experience that just can’t be repeated! Our cabin steward, Leo, took great care of us ensuring our room was impeccably clean, stocked with everything we required and requested. We met him right after we boarded and he worked hard to assist us in having a fantastic voyage. We were able to board very quickly and actually got to our stateroom well ahead of the actual “all ready” alert. Leo was there waiting to greet us with that beautiful smile and a sincere welcome! We couldn’t ask for a better cruise - from start to finish! Read Less

My wife and I have always wanted to go on an Alaskan Cruise and we spend months pouring over reviews and options for different cruise lines. After all of that, Princess seemed to be the obvious choice given the positive reviews and large number of accommodations. So, my wife and I booked it in celebration for our 25th wedding anniversary and were not at all disappointed. We felt as though we were treated as a king and queen from the fine dinning every evening, to quick food and snacks throughout the day to the steward caring for our cabin throughout the day. If we stopped by our cabin to use the freshen up, the next time we returned it had been tidied up! The productions are of Broadway quality and the other entertainment was well organized and well run. I wanted to see Alaska but I'm not a big fan of cold weather. I chose Princess because I'd heard they were the best for Alaska cruise. I'd never cruised on Princess before. I was NOT disappointed. From embarkation till debarkation, everything was much more than I expected! We traveled this time with a group of 14 (10 of which I had not met before). We did travel Club Class and this was a first. Club Class Dining and priority boarding and deboarding made it well worth it. We had a Jr. Suite and the bathroom was bigger than I'd ever seen on a cruise ship. The extra seating area and larger balcony were great perks. I'd highly suggest having a balcony - you see some of the most majestic sights right from your own balcony. We saw humpback whales, orcas, bear, otters, seals and eagles right from our balcony. The day spent in Glacier Bay alone made the cruise worth it. We saw the magnificent glaciers, went through floating ice to get in to the Bay and were lucky enough to see pieces of ice break off (called calving). They spent plenty of time right in front of the glacier and then turned the boat around for the other side of the ship to have the same view. We chose a seaplane excursion (don't miss this one - went to Taku Lodge, landed for lunch and a hike and back to the port) , an ATV excursion and a fishing excursion for our 3 Alaskan ports. They were perfect! A few of our friends did the helicopter excursion and actually walked on a glacier - looked spectacular too! The ports - Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan were breathtaking by themselves. We did not have enough time in Ketchikan and I hope to go back one day to explore further. We didn't get off the ship in Victoria simply because it was the last night, we were tired and it seemed like a lot of trouble to deal with our passports to get on and off the ship. The service on board was impeccable. We did one thing we've never done on a cruise ship - we arranged for a Chef's Table dinner. At $95 per person this is the single most incredible thing I've done ON a cruise ship! The Maitre'D and Chef served us unlimited champagne and 3 appetizers IN the kitchen before seating us in the center of the dining room and serving us white and red wine and a fabulous 4 course dinner. At the end we were each given a picture of our group, a picture of our couple with the chef and the signature cookbook. We were all blown away by the entire evening. They had never done a group our size and it was quite an endeavor. I'll do this again - whether it is just my husband and me or a group. Just spectacular! All the entertainment we participated in was fun - comedian, magic, stage show, Voice of the Ocean, bingo and trivia. We fit in as much as we could and could not make it to everything available. We opted not to do spa treatments but many in our group did and loved them. The spa itself was beautiful. The Ruby Princess was a very well appointed ship and quite beautiful. I never felt crowded on board and the service was never slow or compromised at all. Room service was better than I'd ever experienced on other lines too. The beds are exactly as comfortable as they advertise - the Princess bed. So although I wasn't overly enthusiastic about going, I can not WAIT to go back! In one word - SPECTACULAR! Read Less

Let me start by saying Princess is not a party boat. My wife and I just turned 30 and love Princess for this reason. If you're looking for spring break and a liquor waterfall being poured into your mouth by a dancing bear you should find another cruise haha. You can definitely have a blast and drink and be crazy but the Princess experience is definitely not built around this concept. Alaska is for nature lovers: This really is the last frontier. It's incredible, from the endless view of mountains torn through by the neon blue glaciers, to the real wildlife surrounding you. By real wildlife, I mean not in a petting zoo, free of charge, raw wildlife. We saw a bear on our nature walk, we saw whales while eating breakfast on the ship, sea lions fighting for salmon in Ketchikan, glacial ice falling into the ocean. We take nature for granted because we can watch it on Facebook and TV whenever we want. Seeing the real thing is priceless and truly unmatched. Go on this adventure. Weather: Do your research. just because it's Alaska doesn't mean its the frozen tundra. Know what the weather is averaging around the time you want to depart. The inside passage is where we cruised through ( Seattle> Juneau> Skagway> Glacier Bay> Ketchikan> Victoria, BC) and we stayed on top of the weather until the day before we cruised. Bring a light wind/rainproof jacket. This area is a rainforest, the second largest in the world! For August time, bring lots of light layers and a waterproof backpack. We were glad to be able to strip down into t-shirts during the hikes and throw them into a backpack for later. Overall I found the adverse weather nice and enjoyed how the fog and clouds complimented the scenery. Cruise experience: We chose to get a balcony at the risk of my motion sickness. It was well worth it. The gentle... Sometimes strong breeze was nice when I felt a little off and the view will help you forget about everything else. The staff is highly attentive, very knowledgeable, and generally appear to be enjoying themselves. I have friends who work on cruise ships and have spoken of the long hours so I have more appreciation for the fantastic customer service we were given. The food is AMAZING. I can't imagine anyone besides a Micheline star chef having any complaints about this cuisine. If you enjoy the casino they have all of the expected games and slots you would hope for. I don't gamble so I don know much more other than you are allowed to smoke while actively playing there. All in all I would highly recommend this trip. If you absolutely hate rainy cold weather or are trying to get away from it maybe look at another cruise. Read Less

First of all, take an Alaskan cruise. The inside passage through Glacier Bay NP was phenomenal, and we loved everything about our time in Alaska. But consider a different cruise line. We sailed with Royal Caribbean in the past, and in comparison, Princess is really missing the mark... The positives: 1. Excellent staff: all of the staff were extremely attentive and hard working. We were amazed at their efficiency and ability to keep things running so smoothly all of the time. We loved getting to know the staff in the dining rooms and bars. Great group of people. We both noticed, however, that many of the staff members seemed exhausted, stressed, and overworked at times. 2. The outdoor decks and pools: We loved the spacious outdoor decks, many pools and hot tubs, and amble seating on decks. It felt like there was more outdoor space on this cruise than our last. 3. Balcony: We booked an aft facing corner balcony. The room felt very spacious, and the balcony was huge. What a view! The room was very clean upon arrival, though the furnishings and carpet are somewhat dated. Our stateroom attendant was excellent, and really went the extra mile in everything. 4. Ports of call: We visited Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria. Each of these places were amazing. 5. Embarkation/ Disembarkation: Never had a smoother, easier embarkation and disembarkation than this. Princess did a great job here. We were able to drop off our luggage at the pier at 11am the day we were scheduled to sail. Our boarding time wasn't until 1:30, which left us with plenty of time to walk and explore Seattle. By the time we got on the ship at 1:30, we were able to walk right on, and our luggage was already in the room. Very impressed. Cons: 1. The food: We aren't foodies, nor are we picky eaters. This food, however, was pretty bad. This was our biggest complaint, and the reason we would choose another cruise line. The buffet served the same things over and over, and oftentimes you would see yesterdays lunch or dinner show up in the next mornings scrambled eggs (mushroom scrambled eggs one day, salmon scrambled eggs the next, etc). The problem was, the dishes weren't even very good the first time, and we were pretty sick of the food after the 5th time eating the same dish. We thought the dining room would be an improvement, and while it offered a different menu, the quality was no better. There's lots of choices, but as I said, you'll see those same choices every single day. There's always a salad bar, a few veggie choices, a couple meat choices, and a couple indian dishes (which all tasted very similar but were actually quite good). Steer clear from the desserts though- not even remotely worth it. 2. General maintenance: The ship is only ten years old, but its starting to show its age. In high traffic areas, such as in front of the elevators, the carpet is literally threadbare. The carpet in many of the hallways and in the staterooms looks dingy. Many of the hot tubs were closed throughout the week, though the remaining open tubs were packed with guests. The fitness center equipment is old but adequate, and some pieces were out of order. My wife and I chose to cruise with Princess Cruise Lines after talking with others about different cruise lines and we are both very pleased with our first experience. The Logistics of the Princess line is unbelievable as to ensuring 3000 guests are taken care of and no major issues necessary to deal with. at the various ports we went on excursions and back to the ship without issues, time, location, guides that were very informative and knowledgeable. All this was received on a very positive note. The entire staff of the Ruby Princess was in my opinion top notch, The customer service, energy, care and concern for their passengers was never ending. The entire cruise was a great success. The only thing I would have liked to have done was tour the ship the entire ship IE the engine room, control deck, etc. but that is me. I would have enjoyed seeing the engines that move such a vessel through the waters to Alaska. I for one will promote the Princess Line to family and friends. Thank You for a Cruise well done. From the transfer at the airport to the transfer back we loved our cruise. Weather was great, beautiful ship, delicious food, great entertainment, excellent service. The beds were excellent. We ate one meal at the crown grill and it was a fine dining experience. A special treat was brought to celebrate our anniversary and we were honored with a song. There was so much good it would be hard to choose another cruise line the next time. I purchased the coffee card and found it to be worth it. There were a lot of activities on board- lots of audience participatory games- loved the trivia. Some the of the games tried to make it funnier by being off color- I don’t like that kind of humor (seemed high schoolish) and there were families on board - games would be just as fun without asking someone to act out a “condom” in Pictionary- that would be my criticism (makes a beautiful ship seem trashy) loved the comedian, the voice, and Iditarod speaker. We went with 2 sons and daughters in law. They wanted to go to Alaska. We went 25 years ago and had a fabulous experience. We were excited to go share it with them and my husbands parents as well. We’ve been on 10 plus cruises-different companies. Enjoyed being with family but overall experience was as lacking. Service was top notch liked the dining room food (rate a 5) the best but overall food (rate a 3) wasn’t what I expected. Bed was the most comfortable I’ve had and our room steward was great. Loved having a balcony! Was awesome especially at glacier bay. Weather played a huge factor in the excursions and even getting in to port in Skagway (we didn’t!) so that was very disappointing to have only 2 of our 5 scheduled excursions work out. It was unfortunate. Glacier Bay was a highlight. Last time we did the inside passage and I liked that better. Saw more wildlife last time. Entertainment was ok. Read Less

Lots of wasted time on ship, Very short time in most of the ports. Ship needs to be more considerate of passengers needs and less on ships schedule. Would be my last consideration for future cruises. First dinner had to wait in a line for a table in a half empty dinning room supposed to accommodate " Anytime Dinning". Orders food before everyone around us and had to complain to head waiter to find out why everyone else that ordered after us was already having desert and we where still waiting for our dinner. Another morning of a day on ship went up to deck 15 to breakfast and ran into only one open section at 10:00am with a line of people waiting to eat. You would figure on a day with no place to be knowing that passengers would probable sleep in the ship would keep more options open. Zero entertainment after 10:00 pm. How about an after hours adult comedy show? Where have you seen a casino that doesn't pay you in cash. Was told they would mail me a check in 3 weeks and if anyone wins less than $30 they donate it to charity???? Read Less

Where do I begin, off the ship was awesome, but coming back on was a huge let down. Bars were way understaffed and I fell bad for those who paid for drink packages. I would have to wait about 20 mins just to get a coke. When you would sit down to dine the wait for a drink would be worse, almost finished when the drink would arrive. Cabin looked old and outdated. The view was great though. Dining- Be prepared to pay extra for dining if you want a good meal. The specialty restaurants were great. Regular dining had no flavor but service was good. Buffets were the same all the time, they just changed the sauce that it was prepared with (LOL0 Hope you like pork! Entertainment- Shows were ok, have seen better on other cruise lines. Magician was horrible my son could do better than him. Comedy was great first nite, his second was basically a repeat of his first (Which was made to sound like it was going to be a special treat). Trying to get a drink was a joke because not enough staff. Crew shows were ok, they did their best. It might sound like all I can do is complain but this cruise ship was such a let down, every-time you got around the other guest after 2 days all you would hear is complaining of how horrible the service was, I am sure I am not the only one giving this cruise a bad review. I work hard for my money and expect great service when we go on vacation. Chose another cruise line and have a great time. If you do chose this line be prepared to spend extra for great food and bring your own alcohol !!!!! Read Less

Chose this cruise line for reviews. This ship is older so some wear and tear expected. Had a mini-suite that had a strong odor of mold, bed was well used and lumpy with visible deformations in the mattress. Club Class dining was very good, staff was excellent. The pizza was tasteless at other cafe, and ice cream substance was horrible. Buffet was mediocre at best. Most activities on board were to encourage you to buy their priceless baubles. It felt like we were living in an infomercial. While I expect some of this, this cruise line is all about the sales. Princess claims that they will make this a once in a lifetime experience. I presumed this meant it would be a good experience, to the contrary, I think they mean that after one cruise you will never use Princess again. The staff and Captain were reluctant to provide information on where disembarkation would occur, where lines should form. It was a big secret, unlike other cruises I have experienced. The staff then complained about where the lines organically formed and meandered. Also, someone had a "medical emergency" on board that required a 7 plus hour detour causing a complete loss of any excursions in Juneau. Not sure what kind of emergency requires such detour, but yet doesn't merit helicopter to fly to medical facility. Seas were not that rough. Captain then repeatedly lied about still making port on time, only releasing that we would not about an hour before we were due in. Notice would have been nice to cancel excursions. When we reached excursion company via phone, they stated they had known the night before. Captain lied. On other cruises such issues, even when weather related, were offset by some renumeration to the passengers such as credit to their account. Not with the money hungry folks at Princess. Listened to Ms. Texas blather on about buying their coupon book (don't do it), or being a VIP shopper...worthless, same coupons taped to display shelves in stores in port. If other wish to cruise with this company, don't buy a thing until the last full day of the cruise. Those priceless baubles are not worth the opening price, and probably not the finishing price either. The "Love Boat" company is now the "Lust Boat", and they are after your money...not the way to see Alaska! Read Less

I've only been on 8 cruises. I'm certainly not an expert, but the cruise on the Ruby Princess was by far my least favorite. We found some of the staff to be warm and welcoming, but others were surprisingly curt and almost condescending. There were 4 of us traveling, we are self-employed, in customer service and upper management positions. We are polite and courteous to all. On the Ruby Princess, we all experienced being cut off mid-sentence when asking for something with “YES MA’AM or YES SIR”. Some staff even turned and walked away while we were still talking. SPA - We paid $400 to use the thermal suite and it was below par. One day everything worked, another the lights and saunas were broken, another day the saunas were way too hot. I mentioned this to a spa employee who didn't seem to care. I also mentioned it to a ship officer (in white uniform) at the thermal suite and he responded rather exasperated "YES, we're going to fix it just for you". Two ladies at the thermal spa at the same time as me left and said they were going to complain and get a refund. SANCTUARY - We always look forward to relaxing in the serenity area of the ship, but the Ruby Princess charges $20 to use it on a regular day and $60 on the day we cruised Glacier Bay? It was a ghost town! ROOM - Our steward was great about cleaning our room and did a great job. However, the bathroom smelled like urine from the time we boarded the ship. I don’t think it was from it being unclean, more likely urine underneath the surface. My sister came into our room and smelled it right when she walked in also. The beds and pillows in our stateroom on were extremely comfortable. I read that Princess is replacing them on all their ships. Great call! INTERNET - We purchased 240 of internet which worked intermittently. I had to go to the internet café three times to get it resolved. I was told and heard them telling other people they were having trouble with the internet and I asked and was issued credit. Unfortunately, this could only be resolved when the internet café was open. It was closed one afternoon and I was told I had to come back in 2 hours. I asked if the front desk or anyone else was available and told no, nobody else on the ship could. I realize it’s not Princess’ fault that we had to turnaround the first day due to a medical emergency on the ship and miss the day in Juno and our excursion. Thank goodness the excursion company gave us a refund. It was very disappointing that we didn’t get off the ship until 7pm and told we had to be back on the ship by 9:30pm. We spent 2 hours in Juno, got in line to get on the ship at 9:10pm. For some reason, the gangway was closed. Princess was very unorganized and we didn’t get on the ship until 10:15pm. This is my second time on an Alaskan cruise, imo Ketchikan is the best port. It was disappointing that we were only there from 7am to 1pm (in port for only 4.5 hours). Getting off the ship at 7:30 in Victoria was really a waste of time as most stores and the vistor’s center were closed. Princess sent out a survey after the cruise, I voiced my concerns and nobody even bothered responding. Read Less
