Staff were fantastic but this cruise was 95% retirees over the age of 70. The activities were designed to entertain the same age bracket. We are late 40s and found the activities boring and the demographics were way too old. Other than great pools, there was nothing to entertain our age bracket. The internet was terrible, too slow and lots of drop outs. The room service was great, although no towel animals. The beds were extremely comfortable and balcony was worth the amount. The food was ok. Loved the pizzas and ice cream. The Lotus Spa services were good but way overpriced. The fitness centre was well equipped. Was disappointed with the day in Papeete, when no shops were open. The overnight stay should have been in Honolulu where there was more to do. There were no theme nights and the night club was designed again for old people. No area suited young people. Read Less

We had an amazing vacation. Meet some very neat people. Looking forward to keeping in touch with them. The ship was clean and beautiful. Food in the Horizon Court was always really good. The best meal we had was at Curtis Stone Share! Go there and eat, you will not be disappointed. The Casino was fun we won some and lost some but overall it was fun. The artwork was pretty, not my style but nice to look at. We got the coffee card, but could have done without it. The coffee in the Horizon was just as good and free :). Soft serve ice cream was perfect, my hubby's favorite. :) We had great weather, only rained in Juneau. We did a little shopping in Juneau. We did the train ride in Skagway, that was beautiful. I would go again! Glacier Bay was beautiful, so peaceful and relaxing, we did see a portion of the glacier break but did not get pictures. The Lumber Jack Show in Ketchikan was really cute and fun, great for the family! We did the Pedi-Cab ride in Victoria, BC, I recommend seeing the city this way. The stop in Victoria is short and Pedi-Cab makes it to where you see the whole city in 2 1/2 hours. So you still have time to shop if you want. Overall the best vacation we have taken in years. We are looking forward to our next cruise, I really want to got to New England & Canada cruise. Read Less

We've been to Alaska many times and we wanted our daughter and her family to see the beauty of the land that we keep going back to see. It's so peaceful with breathtaking scenery in all directions. There are many areas of pristine, untouched nature and wildlife abound everywhere. Embarkation and Disembarkation were the best of all the cruises we've been on. The crew couldn't do enough to make us comfortable and fulfill all our needs. The food was excellent and varied including gluten-free bread and dessert offerings. There could be a more consistent kids' program, however. And an indoor pool would be nice for Alaskan tours. The boutiques are well stocked with a diverse selection of goods. I love the International Cafe which is open 24 hours for a late-night snack. I loved taking a hot bubble bath at the end of the night...such a treat on a ship. Well worth going. Check the hours of some of the ports because we had one very early one...7 a.m., and one very late one...7 p.m. I'd have preferred more daytime hours for being onshore. Read Less

Toilet didn’t work correctly for 7 days, extremely loud fan blowing outside door for 4 days, severe vibration for 2 days. We tried every day to get these problems solved and it never happened. Staff that took care of the room were great and did try to help. Service manager sarcastic response. Shipboard entertainment was average. Food in the dining room was average but service was great. Ship stops were appropriate. Glacier Bay was spectacular. We found tours purchased off the ship were less expensive. On board shops were appropriate with fair pricing. Embarkation and debarkation were well handled well. This cruise provided a lot of inboard activity which was appropriate for all ages. We ate in all three dining rooms, the food was average. We could make dinner reservations which we liked. Wait staff was great. The stress of wondering if the toilet would work and trying to get it fixed was a daily battle. Read Less

The entertainment was terrible. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. The wait staff were excellent. Some even remembered our names. The price you pay for this cruise is too much for what you get. The entertainment was the same people all the time in different places and times. The one singer was horrible. I had to leave until he was done. Some of the staff even said he was terrible. In the mini suite we had one bed for 3 people and a sofa bed that was like sleeping on a metal frame. Very uncomfortable. I said something about it. Nothing was done, except to not open the sofa bed and have me sleep on the couch. I would NEVER take a Princess cruise again. I was so disappointed. I have been on other cruises and they were great compared to this poor cruise. The excursions were pricey and you got the same when schedule on shore for a lot less. Read Less

We lucked out with the weather. Spectacular sceneries. Great company. Everyone friendly. I am a frequent cruiser, been on different cruise lines; sorry to say that Princess isn't my top choice. Compare to Celebrity: Princess Ruby ( and Regal) has smaller cabin, their mini suite that my sister used is same size as a stateroom balcony on Celebrity. Food quality in Dinning room is mediocre. Food in buffet is a hit or miss . We ate @ the Crowne Grill, the food was good, but the service was poor. The waiter jr was serving the drinks, she served Martini in a regular glass, and she was having a problem understanding what we were trying to order. The waiter was rushing to take our orders after he made us wait a long time to come to our table , eventhough the dinning room was almost empty. Entertainment again mediocre. Photo Gallery: a RIP off. $25/photo, no deals. On Celebrity $15, if you buy more we get all kind of deals. I am not bitter or mad, just writing an honest review. One more thing, if you buy pop can(6) package on line, you have to order them to your cabin, and take a can with you ( in your purse ) to dinner anywhere on the ship, or else they will charge you. Better order soft drinks from fountain. Liquor and wine package much much more expensive than Celebrity. Do not book on Lido deck15),specifically front of the ship, the gym will be right above you, you can hear weights being dropped at all hours. Read Less

Choose this cruise as we were informed that this was the best line for Alaska Cruise. How very disappointing. I have taken over 15 cruises (Disney, Carnival, Royal Carrib, Celebrity) and this was the worst. Took a Princess cruise in 1994 - which was also terrible. Thought we would give it another try. Certainly never will again. Ship was not well kept, staff was not helpful or friendly. Breakfast and lunch were not wonderful. Dinner was doable and dining staff was great in dining room. Breakfast and lunch selections were not good and there was never enough seating. Entertainment was okay but we had late seating and never were able to get to show on time if at all. Staterooms were not well kept. Had many toilet issues (as did the whole deck). Rooms were on the small side. Guest services staff not knowledgeable at all (except Jose) and some were not friendly (one told us we asked too many questions) Read Less

We had a most wonderful cruise. Wonderful Entertainment all the time, everywhere on the ship! Food was delicious in all areas of ship! We went to Crown Grill and Curtis Stone's Share. Both were a little intimidating for us but our waiters, Martin? At the Crown Grill and Nasri? At Share and all the rest of the staff made us feel so special and helped us make great choices! Great dinners! We also loved the lectures and live narratives by author, Michael Modzelewski! He was informative, humorous, passionate and helped light the fire of the Alaskan fire in us! The room was spacious and clean and with the balcony, a very special place to hangout with coffee and a delicious snack to watch the beautiful landscape and marine animals! Our cabin person was very nice and personable. He made sure we had everything we needed! And may I say, this was our first cruise and we were very anxious. We came from NY Our travel agent at Liberty travel set everything up through Ruby Princess. All transfers went smoothly getting us where we had to be! Greatest trip ever! For our 50th anniversary, we took a 12-day Princess cruise to Alaska originating in Los Angeles. From the moment we stepped aboard the 5-star Ruby Princess, we were surrounded by helpful, smiling faces of staff. Our balcony room gave us a wonderful view and fresh air throughout our cruise. The bed was SO comfortable with cozy Egyptian linens. Our cabin Steward, Christopher, was so helpful and attentive. The ship holds about 3500 guests and about 1500 very service oriented staff- which is a nice size and ratio. The restaurant meals were fresh and fabulous with very attentive waiters. There were fresh food options 24- hours a day! We enjoyed the flexibility of "anytime" dining. The entertainment was nonstop. We especially enjoyed the nightly musical shows in the Princess Theater. They have very talented performers- bands, singers and dancers. The different lounges also had good entertainment and often dancing. The casino is spacious and has lots of variety, including blackjack tournaments which are really fun! The gym provides nice machines with an amazing view! We especially enjoyed the tram excursion in Juneau and the train in Scagway. We plan to fly to Anchorage on our next Alaskan trip to explore the more northern regions and to do a land tour to Denali. We highly recommend Princess cruises without reservation! We look forward to our next Princess cruise!! The 12 days flew by!! Read Less

Overall, we had a pleasant cruise. In all fairness I do hold Princess to a higher standard than, say, NCL. We got the distinct feeling we were dealing with a crew where most were in training. They lacked attention to detail and knowledge, which improved somewhat over the period of the trip. The ship was just not is the best shape. Rust stains were prevalent, and most of the trip included a rather unpleasant sewer smell near the bow and upper-exterior decks. Food quality and variety were excellent, with the exception of the poor coffee in the Buffet. There was always something going on. Bars were themed and very comfortable. Alcohol drinks reflected variety and creativity. Cabins were very comfortable, and housekeeping service was excellent. We really enjoyed the overall layout of interior and exterior public areas on the Ruby. There was no overall central large pool, instead a number of smaller, sectioned areas that allowed for cruisers with different tastes to gather. The same can be said for the sprinkling of Bars throughout the ship. Entertainment was very nice, but nothing wowed us like our first Princess cruise that included Jeff Dunham and an Elton John impersonator. Mark, the Naturalist, and Tiki Dave, the Cultural guy, were the best, being both entertaining and informative. We continue to be underwhelmed and mystified by the need for all the shopping and art auctions on board. Ports were fine. One change we would consider would be to rent a car, especially to visit the Arizona Monument. Our tour drove us there and left us for 3 hours. Since the tour bus got there last, we did not get to take the boat tour, then were stuck waiting as the monument grounds do not take 3 hours to see. Lahaina was the best! Just get off the ship and wander around. No need for tours. People were friendly, and local dining and shopping were plentiful and reasonable. Make a point to walk into Kohola Brewing for a pint of excellent beer. We are cautious about taking a third Princess Cruise. Read Less

After several couples mentioned how much they loved this cruise, we decided, along with 2 other couples, to take it and were absolutely delighted we did! It turned out to be above and beyond our expectations in every respect. Embarkation was a breeze as was disembarkation. The service was extraordinary and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate your every need. Loved the ship, cabin, staff, food, activities, etc. So much to do on the days at sea that they flew by as we enjoyed participating in whatever we could manage to fit into our very busy schedule!! All the ports we visited were wonderful and we were most fortunate in having calm seas and beautiful weather throughout the trip. The entertainment was exceptional-especially the production shows along with all the other performers who took center stage as well as in the explorers lounge. Overall, just had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it and most likely will do it again. Read Less

I did this cruise 2 years ago and had a great time. This time everything was changed. They said the ship was newly renovated but what they really did was add 100 staterooms. The result was less seating on the promenade deck inside. They also changed the menu which affected the dining rooms and the buffet. The quality took a dive with a less appealing menu and an addition of things like steak and or lobster or surf and turf added at the bottom at an additional charge. If lamb is not at the top of your hit parade, stay off this ship. The buffet had a good selection of fruits, melons and desserts but the entrees seemed to be left overs from the dining rooms. There where still additional dining opportunities at additional charge's but less because of less deck space to put them. I had the drink package ($1000 plus) but was still charged for the initial bottles of water that were in our stateroom when we boarded. It appeared there were less room stewards as well and if you were not out of your cabin during certain hours, you room was skipped until the next specified hours. I have sailed with Princess before and enjoyed it but was told , what we experienced was the new Princess way of doing things. I will not sail with them again. Read Less

We’ve sailed with Princess in the past and know we will get a high quality ship and experience. Our recent cruise from LA to Hawaii and back was no different. Beautiful ship, comfortable mini-suite, fun activities, terrific crew, and a bunch of food. It took 4 days to get to Hilo. We visited Hilo, Honolulu, Kauai and Maui. Then 5 days to Ensenada, Mexico and one final day to LA. The boarding and disembarkation processes were very smooth. All of the islands were beautiful & offered different sites. Hilo is full of volcanoes. Honolulu has Pearl Harbor and Luaus. Kauai has waterfalls and beaches where movies were filmed. Maui is the nicest. Nice downtown near the port with plenty of shops. Would recommend Kimos for lunch. Right on the Pacific, great fish tacos and a huge Ice cream cake desert. Ensenada was a disappointment though. Not much to see or do. Read Less

Green Valley River Casino in Las Vegas offered a free cruise to their "high rollers". My wife & I always wanted to see some of the sights along the California coastline. San Diego, San Francisco, Monterrey/Carmel, & Ensenada, Mexico were the featured stops on this 7-day cruise. Unfortunately, the 8-foot swells would not let any of the passengers off the ship's tenders at Monterrey/Carmel, so Princess Cruises let us stay an extra day in San Diego. This permitted us to leave the ship at anytime during the 36 hour stay. Sights we visited: Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Wharf, San Diego Zoo, USS Midway Museum, and La Bufferaro in Ensenada, Mexico. The ship consisted of mostly older passengers. I would suspect the average was close to 62 years of age. Many passengers well over 70 and very few children on the ship. The entertainment was very good, the service, and the food was excellent. First-run movies were shown daily as well. We stayed in an inside cabin and had a top notch cabin steward. We really enjoyed the cruise and the way we were treated. Read Less

The three areas that were disappointing were entertainment, menu selection and smoking venue. The comic, diva, trio and pianist at Crooners very good; the dance band, guitar players and Wallace Black dIsappointment; The trio played a great selection of mariachi and dance music. Tea Cake Forest Diva performance of Aretha and Whitney Houston excellent; the comedian offered a good show. The dance band played with no soul and the Wallace Black Duo especially the female singer not at quality level for Princess Cruises, the pianist at Wheelhouse advised me doesn’t do requests - really? Movie selections impressive and availablity to see in Princess Theater was a positive option. The menu selection on Horizon for breakfast and lunch unappealing Friday and Saturday. Sailed on Ash Wednesday and a Friday in Lent and found selections of non meat sparse. Salty Dog Street Tacos selections disappointing and exception of Saturday night menu of Michangelos limited, two nights orders were incorrect and avoided ordering wine or drinks as it seemed delayed menu orders. The Speakeasy was a cramped room for smokers and drink service available lnconsistent in comparison to smoking bar on The Star Princess. Read Less

I chose this because it was a ten day cruise which went to some off the beaten track Ports. The food was sub-par and the ships facilities were in need of repair. None of the Hot Tubs on the ship were working properly and nothing was done to repair them. The food in the Michaelangelo Dining room was mediocre and the Crown Steak House was disappointing. The activities on sea days on the ship were not geared to be of any interest to an active person or of any educational value. The quality of Merchandise in the stores was disappointing. I have always looked forward to see the latest styles in Invicta watches as I have experienced on every cruise I have been on in the last ten years. I was told that they no longer carry that Brand. Instead, they had a few lines of very cheap Chinese-made watches that were an embarrassment. Read Less

We chose this cruise about 6 weeks beforehand as we were looking for a winter getaway. I was looking at a few different options and I am very pleased with the choice we made. Starting with embarkation, the tone was set. Really efficient and seamless - we got our luggage quickly and from port to ship was fast and all staff were friendly! Although it was not perfect (what is?) there were so many positives on this cruise. Near or at the top of the list was the social nature of this cruise. We met so many nice people - I feel like the design of the ship really encourages chatting, social time and not rushing! Food was very good. Entertainment was a bit hit and miss - AJ the comedian was quite good, we had a group called the phat pack that were excellent (and not part of the cruise specific entertainment!) and some of the musical acts were fun and location appropriate (eg Mariachi) The colours of the world was not great for a variety of reasons and I found the show times of 630 and 830 really conflicted the dinner times. Dinner was typically at a leisurely pace and we missed quite a few shows. No matter, we just chatted with friendly passengers! We had an inside cabin which was ok but I think we will be back on a balcony next cruise. If you have not had a balcony you may not know what you’re missing. We did and noticed it! One other complaint was a one off - there was an unruly passenger that was picking a fight with another, much older passenger on the tender back from Cabo - I tried to alert the Princess Staff and nobody seemed to know what to do or act with a sense of urgency. I am guessing that it is not common on Princess which may explain why but it could have turned serious and they should have been quicker to act. Overall, loved the ship crew was good passengers were almost universally friendly. We will definitely be sailing with Princess again! Read Less

I thought everything on the cruise was great. This was my first cruise, so I have nothing to compare it to. The food at the buffet was acceptable. I only ate at the buffet for breakfast. Nothing really spectacular, but nothing was poor either. The only issue I had with the Horizon buffet is finding a seat in the dining area. There are two sides for the buffet, and both sides are really busy and packed with people. I had to either eat really early to get a seat, or wait for someone to finish eating, then swoop down on the table to get it. Or, the alternate is to take your food outside to the pool area to eat, but it could get pretty cold and windy out there. Dining for dinner in the DaVinci or Michaelanglo dining rooms were wonderful. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The inside basic cabin that my wife and I were in on the 8th floor was acceptable. It was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was very small, but that's to be expected on a cruise ship. It fulfilled its purpose. I thoroughly enjoyed all the activities on the ship. We did dance lessons, trivia games, attended concerts, used the fitness center, walked laps on the ships deck, etc. Our favorite staff on the ship was a guy who claims to be from Serbia, who has a strong accent. He was the host for most of the trivia games, bingo, and was even the announcer for the disembarkation process. Loved that guy. He's so funny! Embarkation and disembarkation was a breeze. The cruise staff got this down to a science! All in all, a wonderful experience. I will be returning to Princess Cruises soon! Read Less

We do this as often as we can for Christmas week. This is the first time we can say from the minute we got on to the end entire crew welcoming, helpful, pleasant caring. 1 of us needed wheelchair assistance and it was there from check in all the way to the Horizon for lunch, wow !!! Room attendant provided what asked but not the friendliest, and the spirit of the entire ship was amazing on the night the crew sang Christmas carols with passengers joining in. It was a pretty amazing thing to see and be a part of. Also great was the passengers who formed the passenger Christmas choir to sing in their own show! Negative was the way too early scheduled late seating at 7:15 or 7:30, (just back and now cant remember oops!)the lack of late shows for late seating and missing alot because of the early/ late seating time. Was no late night comedienne either, When in ports no way to make that seating time. Few nights we skipped it. We recommend the specialty steak restaurant ,we went twice. We didn't care much for the girl main server in the dining room, every night was rushed, talked fast and offered recommendations we did not ask for. We were excited to see what Princess had to offer. 3 stars is generous, unfortunately. We had a balcony cabin. The room was really small and the shower was extremely small. The food had no flavor. The entertainment was mediocre. The fitness center was small and did not have a lot of equipment. The result was long wait times. We did like the Princess phone app so we could message each other if we needed to find one another. We also enjoyed the large flat screen tv and the choice of movies. Outstanding Cruise on the Ruby Princess. Great service from the cabin steward to the head waiter, all outstanding. We had a great room location - L309 - this was an ideal location for accessing the Lotus Spa, the Sanctuary and adults only pool, and the stairs to access the piazza and dining. We loved the enrichment programs such as the cooking demonstration and galley tour. The banter between the Head Chef and Maitre De was hysterical. We really enjoyed the shore excursions - we took in Whale watching in which we got a lot of great photos of humpback whales, seals, and dolphins and an old town city tour of Puerta Viarta. It included Tequila tasting at an organic farm and distillery, a lunch at El Set that had great food and spectacular views. We usually sail on Carnival, however, I'm glad we booked the Ruby Princess for our 7-day Mexico cruise. We were platinum and were upgraded to a junior suite. Our room steward was excellent, he parked his cart across from our stateroom so we received excellent service. Carnival could get a lesson in ship design, Ruby does not put a band next to guest services. The horizon buffet food was excellent, very diversified. The main dining room food was very good with spacious tables. The pools were heated, unlike Carnival's cold water. The music was top notch, the mariachi band was good, and the best piano player I ever heard and I was in the business for 18 years. Anyone who complains about this ship should stay home. It is a ship and not a boat. Calling this ship a boat is like calling Mount Everest a hill. Written by: Captian Glen Read Less
