Ship was renovated like a miniature version of Oasis/Allure. TV is limited with repeating shows shown in multiple languages. The safe feels like an oven when you pop open due to the equipment below such as TV and refrigerator. Given a choice between show versus dinner, we choose dinner since Windjammer close at 9pm. In the past it stayed open longer. During sea days, played Ping Pong. RC figured out a perfect spot to place the Ping Pong table. Usually it’s in the worst place possible where you’re constantly battling upmost environment. Lack of ship activities but everywhere you go, you’ll see RC selling merchandise from A to Z. After awhile, the constant "sell" gets old. Did they forget we are on vacation and we don’t want to be bother? Cuts backs are obvious in food and entertainment. Whether you are in the Windjammer and/or Dining Room, every day was pretty much the same thing with a slight variation. No Lobster on Formal night. Deserts were in tin pans. Only memorable night was the Chocolate fountain. I skipped over the main course and jump into the chocolate fountain. Entertainment show was boring. Rather to see the crew talent shows than the paid entertainers. Luggage arrived in a timely manner outside the cabinet (not inside). Upon disembarkation, luggage was scattered, not good when you're rushing to the airport. Don’t forget to return your swim towel or you’ll get charge $25. We used to sail often on RCC, but with the obvious cutback in food, entertainment and everything else, we’ll need to revisit other ships. The price continues to rise and the quality goes down. 3rd cruise with RCI-standards have dropped overall-maybe competition has forced them to lower their standards. The ship in general needs redecorating/refurbishment particularly the cabin furniture-the settee appeared worn out. The balcony door was rattling and repaired by 2 staff with a thick paper wedge but both carried electric drills -very low key maintenance! Dining in Windjammer was fine but not so in the actual dining room-very sad as the choices on the menu were limited and on some occasions the main course was returned to the kitchen for replacement. The ice shows were brilliant and the 2 tribute bands very good-the rest were just OK. The service was very good but appeared to be understaffed- some looked so tired probably because of the lack of numbers particularly in Windjammers. We didn't use the RCI shore excursions-too expensive, so made our own arrangements locally. So sad to see that standards have dropped so low regarding dress in the dining areas and the problem of towels left on sunbeds still to be resolved. At the present time we are not considering future RCI cruises. Read Less

Value for money was the reason for booking with RC. The crew are the main asset of the company. RC have let themselves down by constantly looking for ways of extracting money from you with items grossly over priced and items charged for when inclusive with other companies. We had an all inclusive drinks package which you had to pay for water. Fragrance was tax free yet still twice the price of Boots stores. Incorrect charges were applied to our accounts on several occasions, which had to be corrected. RC have a two tier passenger policy were the Sky bar was closed to the majority of passengers until 8.30 every evening, even when there were very few people using it. Sun beds closed off for these passengers and rarely used. The Star lounge was closed off in addition to the sky bar, one evening. The knock on affect of this puts strain on others. There was limited seating around the ship which is very poor made worse by these private functions. Entertainment and day time activities were poor or had an additional charge applied which are inclusive with other companies. Other passengers, that holidayed on this ship last year, told us they could see RC had cut back in many areas and were, like us, disappointed and will look elsewhere when booking their next cruise. Oh dear. Royal Caribbean seem to have a 'squeeze every last dollar out of the customer' attitude and it spoiled our experience. This was our first cruise, and we would not sail with Royal Caribbean again, having spoken with many experienced cruisers whilst on board. It's not just about money, the daytime activities were pitiful, such as 'try on a watch event' in the watch store, 'guess the price of jewellery' in the jewellery store... the same things, day in, day out. Of the films shown, on deck throughout the 14 day cruise, were Psycho (1960) and ET (1982) and the rest were fillers, i.e. not exactly box office. Apart from 4 or 5 quizzes EVERY day, by often disinterested crew members there wasn't really any other free daytime activity on offer. There was ice skating, and crazy golf, and a rock wall, but not many over 65's want to do that. You could pay USD 80 for a tour of the ship though? Again, that's expensive per person. I must mention that some quiz hosts/entertainment staff, were fantastic, such as Dominic, engaging with and entertaining the cruisers, but for the most part the hosts were bored and showed it. Everyday, everywhere, even whilst dining in the buffet restaurant, you had crew members plugging the speciality dining experiences, the spa, the behind the scenes tours of the ship, the photography package. I must mention the price of packages too, Bingo packages were USD28 to USD58 for 4 games, photography package starts at USD80 for 5 poses(you can't just buy one photo), wifi package USD13 per day. The alcohol package was USD65 per person, per day, and applies to every day of your cruise, you can't dip in and out, so on a 14 day cruise, you must buy 14 days package or start it from day 3 and then have it for the whole cruise. Suffice to say we did buy drinks but these were USD9 for a bottle of bud or USD11 for a glass of wine so again, captive market that they thought they had, they tried to exploit... Many people go on cruises for food which we thought was just average and very hit and miss. We did alternate nights between the buffet and Sapphire dining room and although service was very good, the food in the main dining room was trying to be fine dining and was pub grub at best. While mentioning the restaurants, we saw a maximum of 8 people in any speciality restaurant so to us, these are wasted space onboard and as we and others could hardly get into the bars around the ship, they would be better converted to public areas for everyone to enjoy and ditch the ridiculously priced boutique shops on the Royal Promenade as well ! Overall the ship was beautiful, clean and comfortable, but the lack of activities or talks, or activities such star gazing, films, crafts etc, made the time drag when you were on board. I think RC should review what they call entertainment, and stop with the hard sell all the time., make the onboard costs of photos, tours a bit more realistic, then people might actually buy them. The evening theatre shows, were average at best, and certainly not 'West end' standard. They were dated, and some were circa 1970's. In future, cruising could well be something we enjoy but we would choose a Line which gives more bang for your buck and with someone who seems to care more about you and the overall experience than money. We cruised for 14 days but I was not as satisfied with this cruise as I was with some of the other cruise ships I have previously been on. The food in the windjammer was terrible! The only place to get a decent meal was the main dining room which was only opened for very limited hours. The staff was very nice though. I thought the entertainment was not that great. The comedy show was good but that is about all I can remember from the entertainment. I wish there would have been more activities going on through out the day to accommodate all ages but my husband and I actually found ourselves bored at times. This was my first time traveling with royal cruise line (Navigator of the Seas) and I was a little disappointed. As for the ports our favorite port was definitely Lisbon, Portugal. We found the people of France to be very rude and we were ripped off multiple times. Read Less

We chose it for the ports and we like the larger ships. Food was exceptional on this particular ship, better than normal. We don't usually like the windjammer but the food was really good for lunch and our children sometimes had dinner there and they really enjoyed it, fantastic selection and high quality for a buffet. Don't like the smoking in the casino. Concierge not as good as other ships. Stateroom was lovely, clean and spacious our room attendant, Josephine was brilliant. Entertainment was ok, the pub music should start earlier than 10, the chap in the pub not as good as other ships. Somehow smoking needs to be controlled on stateroom balconies as this was highly annoying, security asked our neighbor to stop but they continued and our cabin smelt of smoke if we opened our door. Embarkation and disembarkation was fast and efficient. overall we loved the cruise. Read Less

Wife don't like to fly so sailing out of Southampton works well. Royal Caribbean offer some great cruises out from here, but do need to offer some more different ports of call. as we have done then all? We have rebooked for next year so that give you an idea what we think of Royal Caribbean. We have found the staff all to be freindly and helpful and their ships have plenty of things to do on board. as all cruise lines we have notice over the years they have been cutting costs and added extra charges. Always pre pay your tips as it's cheaper in the long run as they just add it to your sea pass account anyway. If you like a drink buy a drinks package as they know how to charge. beer $8 wine by the glass $14.We have found Royal Caribbean ships to be clean and tidy plenty to eat and the shows are realy good, and for the ice show brilliant. We are diamond members in their Crown & Anchor Soceity and the benefits with that do work, as higher level you get better the discounts on your next cruise. Read Less

My Wife's 70th and Grandson's 21st and our 50th anniversary. We liked the Dining room and Windjammer for the casual meals, the food was good. Drinks and shore excursions were very expensive when compared to the online booking prices and the onshore (local tours) The exchange rate for South Africans made it even worse. Shore excursion members were not very helpful when asked for info on doing our own thing such as where to go. The ship was good but starting to show it's age, some automatic doors did not work properly and occasionally stayed open, really noticeable on bad weather days. Rust patches were visible although small there were quite a few. The Ice show and Beatles show were excellent, but some of the other musical entertainers and Bands were obviously "low budget" and disappointing. The guy who did presentations on Flying was very good and interesting. TV movies, there was only one and repeated every day for the whole 14 day cruise. Read Less

We have cruised on Navigator many times and thoroughly enjoy the ship, the staff and the food but not always the entertainment. We find people from all over the world interesting but we do not enjoy the negative reviews that some cruisers find it necessary to emphasise, peoples opinions vary but we find some comments do not relate to the same cruises we have experienced. We sailed on 12 May and the first 3 days we not as warm as usual for the time of year however temperatures improved and as we have visited these ports previously it is still a pleasure to repeat our visit, the entertainment in the theatre could have been better but the ice skating is excellent, I think since the drinks packages have been offered to cruisers and the dress code is more casual, cruising is not the same at all but each tohis own as long as everyone has a good vacation. I am glad to say that we embarked on an amazing adventure on board the Navigator of the Seas. It was an excellent choice. The trip started when we left Jordan heading the spend few days with our friends in Vienna and then headed towards Southampton to catch our cruise.the Flight on board Vienna Airlines was smooth and quick once we reached Heathrow airport we headed directly to the Bus Station -National Express- terminal 2&3 to catch our ride to Southampton. This was the cheapest option to reach Southampton from the airport. Tip buying tickets on line and ahead of time is cheaper. we did the same for our ride back to the airport on our last day of the cruise. The Cruise was excellent in terms of services staff friendliness food cabins entertainment smoothness of embarkation and disembarkation. In terms of our Cabin it was assigned to us by Royal Caribbean since it was a Guarantee basis - our booking was made a bit late. The assigned cabin was in an excellent location and was very specious. During the cruise we opted to take two excursions - Pisa &Florence and Rome excursions due to distance from the port and us wanting to see as much as we can during our stay in Italy. We chose the ones with Navigation device as we wanted to explore as much as possible on our own. Food was excellent as staff were really very friendly and attentive. Entertainment on board was really excellent especially the ICE show and the two themed parties done on the promenade. Ports of call were as we expected and more. it was an adventure we will not forget and surely we will consider cruising with Royal Caribbean the future. Read Less

We are looking forward to our next cruise in October and started thinking about next year we have a few ideas. You meet some great people who become friends and meet up with them on other cruises. We got to Southampton at 10-30 and was on board by 10-45 sat in the coffee shop having a coffee and relaxing so quick and easy they have a good system it works. some of the entertainment wasn't up to normal standard or it might just have been not our choice but on a whole not bad Read Less

We chose this cruise for its ports of call, which did not disappoint us. The ship is a little dated, and probably in need of an update, but it was more about the destination. The cabin was fine, the windjammer cafe so very under resourced- because of the cooler weather- most people stayed indoors- and with less room to make way for the fancier restaurants, (more revenue making exercise?)getting a table was a nightmare, very stressful event every morning, and they seemed to run out of basic items- no bananas for breakfast? the queues for tea and coffee just so unnecessary. we were a group of 4 and decided to go to the main restaurant for other meals- but there was always a queue there too, except for our dinner. All the staff were pleasant, as was the standard of food. However the windows were so dirty, a big disappointment. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the length of trip and extra ports visited. Most Scandinavia cruises were only 7 days. However it was only available at beginning of May which turned to to be a bit too cold so didn't enjoy as much. In general the ship and cabin was clean and well keep and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Embarking and disembarking was well organized and smooth. The food quality at main dinning room and cafeteria were okay and average with a few good exception. The Food service lineups were not excessive but still time consuming at peak time. We had a dinner plan and dined in Giovanni's Table and Chops Grille. Both offered slightly better quality and better cut of meats (some available in main dining as options). The port order could be better aligned to provide a larger and more flexible window for excursions. We did most of our excursions with hop-on hop-off buses which are easily accessible from the docks. Because of port time, were not confident to spend time at many stops. Read Less

This was the follow up cruise to our Atlantic crossing and it was a good choice. The Baltic itinerary was very busy compared to the crossing but there were no scheduled speakers, which would have been a plus to gain a better understanding of the history of each port. The food in the main dinning room was fine but the choices were a little slim, with no effort made to bring any local flavor to the menu. On the other hand, the Windjammer cafe, while often crowded during peek periods, had a better than usual list of options including some local fare and the service there was above average. I only used third party excursions (Google SPB) and liked the smaller group sizes and the ability to savor local food at each port. Finally, I must mention how well the ship handled the cold weather we experienced. With temps in the 40's and 50's every day, the ships design was nearly perfect. All that glass acted as a wind break and only the main pool and sport decks were, effected by the wind and cold. There were other venues to keep you occupied, like the gym or the indoor pools and spas. All in all I would be happy to sale on the Renaissance class ships any time. Read Less

My wife and I had planned this cruise for 10 months and we were married in Copenhagen on the day of our cruise, fantastic adventure,I surprised my bride with a Jr. Suite that had been decorated by RCCL with a just married package,Suite number 1570,for anyone cruising this is the quietest room on the ship,we did not hear a peep for 10 days, just the ocean, plenty of room, clean ,a balcony and a bathtub with the shower for your lady,Amos our attendant always had a smile,I keep reading about the ship needing this and that, well, the ship is in amazing shape, sure it's older but you make your vacation good or bad right?,it's just the right size, service on the ship was excellent from guest relations to the dining room, plenty of variety in windjammer and main dining room, service in main dining room never took more than an hour and we chose my time dining which worked for us,for all the meals the chef has to produce in mass quantity we found the quality to be above average, all the people who say it lacked variety are just being picky and nothing would make them happy, the menu changed every night, the ports were fantastic and again you make your own happiness and satisfaction by seeing the good in everything and embracing new experiences,we did a bike ride in Estonia and a ballet in St. Petersberg and everything in between,so fun, entertainment was energetic and very professional,we went to a show every night they had one, singers and band had a lot of energy and the duo who did the magic and acrobatics were so very strong,we were able to meet the acts after the show and on the ship as we shopped that's how intimate the ship is,the staff tried very hard in every circumstance, they even let us go into the guest relations office to print our boarding passes for our departure flight, that's going above and beyond, yes the internet was slow so plan B is a great idea, embarkation was smooth as was disembarkation,we would recommend this cruise and we visited 7 countries 2 we had been to before, very port intensive so plan your excursions wisely to make use of your time! We chose this cruise for the itinerary. Serenade is a nice ship, the cabins are a little tired but well maintained. Dining was good, we chose anytime dining and switched between sharing a table and having a table for two. The quality of the food and the service in the main dining room was varied and very good quality. We didn't feel the need to seek the speciality dining. The entertainment was varied, we only found one show, not to our liking. The guitar, vocalist in the onboard pub was great, we went down every night and really looked forward to that each evening. There was a huge range of activities we could participate in if we wanted to on any day. Service in the stateroom and restaurants was faultless. We tend not to use the ship's excursions but found that we had to in Russia, because of the visa limitations. The shore excursions were well organised and provided great variety, those we took were value for money when you consider that a Russian Visa is $270 AU each not to mention the process to get it organised. Embarkation and disembarkation were not too bad, not the most streamlined we've seen, but all in all not bad. All ports were easy to access, no tenders needed. We have so many places still to see that we may not get back here again, but we are glad we got here once. St Petersburg was stunning, but each port had something unique and worth visiting. Read Less

We (my Wife and I + 2 first time cruiser friends) have just returned from our 3rd, and most enjoyable RCI cruise to date. Firstly I'd like to mention how good the staff were,  our cruise director Marc was the most active, most pleasant and happiest cruise director we have ever come across.  He was absolutely brilliant. The sports entertainment team on the sports deck were again fantastic, some great sporting events in the sports court organised and any of they that could precipitate did (we would have enjoyed more Quik-Cricket - we met some great guys to spend our evenings with each time we played) Secondly, food, after reading reviews on CC we were very pleasantly surprised how good the food in all the restaurants on the ship were - after being on Anthem with 4 free MDR restaurants and then being a little disappointed when on Serenade with just 1 MDR I Wrongly assumed that The Independence had 3 MDRs (King Lear, Romeo & Juliet etc) we realised that the names were just the different floors of the same MDR.  but, even so, the food was, good-very good on our 6 visits over the 14 nights. Chops Grille - 4 times - Very Good, just as we expected from our other two RCI sailings Giovanni's Table - 4 times - on this ship Exceptional!  Brilliant staff, brilliant manager, fantastic food - one point well worthly a mention - my Wife's favourite dish is Spaghetti Carbonara,  sadly this is not on the menu, nor is my favourite spaghetti Bolognese, after having our favourite meals in Rome we asked the manager of Giovani's why it wasn't on the menu - to our delight he said "just ask'.  We have all the ingredients on ship, We can make you anything if you ask for it - so, the next night, we did.  It was the best carbonara we had ever tasted! Even better that the meal we had in Rome the day before! Our cabin, 3608 was just as we expected inside, I was a little worried that the proximity to the OnAir Karaoke bar would have been audible, but it wasn't at all,  one slight inconvenience worth mentioning for deck 3 is, due to the ice rink in studio B means you cannot travel the length of the ship (front to back) on deck 3  this was annoying on the 1st day, but because of this our corridor was not used as a thoroughfare for other passengers which was great. The entertainment was very good,  Grease was brilliant, the ice shows were very good, Darren Day was great,  2 comedians were good too. -  the staff run game shows were, as always brilliant, but Tom and Polly made them even better (The Quest and Love and Marriage my personal favourite) The shore excision choices on this cruise were a little disappointing from what we are used too in the Caribbean, but we booked 5 anyway, they were organised well, however annoyingly after a 2 hour coach ride to the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo we were told trainers were not allowed (this was not printed on the ticket).  Also my wife is a massive Dressage fan and was really looking forward to the Horse Dressage rehearsal,  this was cancelled by the ship on our first day,  we assumed it was due to lack of participation, however the day we visited Cadiz the rehearsals were not on. This was my first cruise and it could not have been better. In the Romeo & Juliet restaurant we kept the same table for the whole cruise and had excellent service on table 366 from Ernami and Martin.During the day the activities were plentiful so there was no chance of being bored. In the evenings a trip to the theatre and then into the Pyramid bar both of which provided top entertainmenet and the service from Silvan Dabre and Stephen Danziel was beyond compare. We would also pop into the vintage bar where Fernando was always very helpful. The cabin was an interior cabin and gave us more space than expected and was kept imaculate by Putu Sawipatjana our stateroom attendant. During the Port stops we had plenty of time to have a look round although i think next time i will take some excursions. On our journey to the port we stopped at a double tree hotel where we had a comfortable overnight stay and left the car for a fortnight. On the day of the cruise we were ferried by taxi to the ship and the boarding was very quick and easy.At the end of the cruise the taxi was waiting to take us back to the car and i cannot fault the service. As i said this was a first cruise and i hope to do more with Royal Caribbean and would thank them for a lovely holiday. Read Less

We picked this so we could go to Petra. The other stops were useless--Athens on Easter Sunday? Everythihjng was closed. Israel on Good Friday? Everything was closed. They should have planned this better. Onboard, lectures and trivia were great. Dining room food was fine, but service was lacking. Windjammer was typical. What they call "mousse" is some kind of whipped jello. Pavlovas were fantastic. Staff gave good attention to the diners. I loved that the specialty restaurants were open for lunch, but this was not advertised well. We were the only ones in Chops and Giovanni's Table for lunch, and it was good! Half the cost of dinner, and the lasagna is to die for! They had a large smoking area by the pool, but there were not enough ashtrays. Lounge chairs by the pool were losing their straps. I loved that there were coffee stations, and the Park Cafe provided delicious breakfast sandwiches, fruit, parfaits, and bagels. Read Less
