We chose this cruise for the Baltic capitals itinerary, which exactly matched our requirements. Most things that you would expect on a ship with 2,400 passengers was as we expected. The dining options were good and varied, entertainments were available most of the time and of a reasonable quality, our stateroom was well equipped and matched the description in the literature, and transfers to/from the ship were well organised. The only general problem we had was the noise levels. In the main dining room (supposedly a 'sophisticated' experience), the background music was so loud that my wife and I had to yell at each other to make ourselves heard. How large groups fared I shudder to think. Also, the bass player in the band that entertained in the Centrum until midnight could be heard in our cabin on Deck 7, at the far end of the ship. This was totally unnecessary, as their audience sat only 25/50 yards from where they were playing. If loud, unnecessary noise bothers you, avoid this ship. Read Less

We've chosen this cruise for the ports of call - Baltic cities, specially Saint Petersburg and we were limited with the departure dates. 7 Night Scandinavia and Russia cruise fitted perfectly and we were not sorry. We made perfect choice. The ship is not recent but you don't see this. She is elegant, clean, well equipped. The crew members were helpful, present but descreet. Food is excellent - choice and quality. We were having diners in the main dining room and Windhjamer caffe.Windjhamer caffe can get crowded for the breakfast when ship arrives early at the ports. We had a cabin with the balcony at the 7th deck. It was not very modern, but very specious, clean(twice a day - interesting folded towels every night - nice touch!!) and well equipped, bathroom with a shower as well. There was a wide choice of shore excursions, but we only took 1,5 day + half day excursion in Saint Petersburg and the local guide was excellent. The rest of the cities we explored on our own, since they were much smaller. Very nice first cruise experience that gave us envy to do it again in the very near future. Read Less

Great cruise. All the stops in the Baltic were incredible. Riga is a very very nice city, that surprised us. St Petesburg is a huge city and the Hermitage was too crowded. Peterhof was a very entertaining and educational activity. In Tallin we went to the mediaval castle and had a great time with my child. Very good for grownups and children. The food at the windjammer was very fresh and good. At the Reflections restaurant food every day had its highlights. At Schooners and the bars, they are not very frienndly when you dont ask for non alcoholic beverages, but nothing too bad! The stateroom (I was in an internal one for the first time in my cruiselife!) was good. We were 4 and found place for everyone. Bathroom had everything you needed. The adventure kids club was so good that my son wanted to be all day there! We had to go and pick him up! Great entertainment for kids. Read Less

Amazing staff, food and facilities on Serenade of the Seas. Myself and my wife and two children aged 14 & 16 had a fantastic time and the children especially met some very good similar aged friend from all parts of the globe and will I am sure keep in touch with them for a very long time to come - one of the main reasons why we choose Royal Caribbean in fact as we know that great friendships are built up with the younger passengers as they form groups on board via the 'teenage club' area and do not get bored as there are plenty of activities and things to do around the ship all of the time. This is our third cruise in 4 years with Royal Caribbean and the same things has happened on the two previous cruises which is great. The entertainment is great of an evening and the shore excursions and choice are extensive from short 3/4 hour trips to entire day excursions. The specialty restaurants are just amazing with service to match and we honestly could not find fault with any of the cruise. The one small and regular gripe that seems to happen each time is in respect of the Tips that you can pay in advance when booking the cruise but which we decide not to as we tip dollars throughout the cruise at the various dining areas, specialty restaurants and bars and also leave a sizeable ‘last day tip’ for the room attendant and the main dining room staff who we see most days. Even though we choose not to pay these up front it seems to always be the case that they get added in anyway on board and within 48 hours of the cruise you start to see several $13.50's appear on your room statement (we had two adjacent rooms so I saw 8 of these on the second day!). You then have to visit the Customer Services desk and they will then email the central accounting department and adjustments will then appear within 48 hours. It seem that despite specifically choosing not to pay these in advance when the cruise is booked and choosing to tip the staff yourself in cash, this request seems to be ignored on board and you are automatically charged anyway. This is an easily resolved issue I would say but it should not really happen in the first place. Just be aware of this when you book a Royal Caribbean cruise. I would still 100% recommend Royal Caribbean for your cruise provider and will be looking to book up my families next cruise with them for 2018 very shortly. 5 starts! Read Less

The cruise was amaizing. We enjoyed the entertainment staff, shows, food and most of the ports of call. St, Petersburg was amaizing. We spent two days and also took the opportunity for a night tour to see the beatifull city at night anf the opened bridges. Tallin, Stockholm and Riga are also beatifull, but we found Helsonki as disappointment. We loved the ship althogh is it not one og the biggest or the newest. The maintanance of the ship is good, it is very clean and looks nice, although you can find a bit of signs of rust if you look for it. The ship crew was very comitted and friendly. The ship's crew provided music, shows and dancing every evenong until late hours. The performance level of the shows and music was really impressive. We also want t mention the food large variety and high quality, althugh the windjammer restaurant was sometimes very croudy. This is our second cruise with Royal Caribbean (the former one was to the Caribbean witj Allure of the Seas) and it is certainly not the last one with RC. Read Less

Baltic itinerary is terrific. All ports were enlightening and pleasant experiences. Ship was okay, but worn. Heard going to dry dock soon for refurbish. Balcony Cabin furnishings ready to replace. Roomy but worn. Food in main dining room was fair at best. Few inspiring options, few fish seafood options. some quality so bad it was inedible (strip steak). Specialty restaurants not special, like those on Solstice, just passable good food that was equal to other lines main rooms. No tableside preparations. We bought the 3 night specialty dining packages but the ship only has two specialty, upscale restaurants! Izumi looks like a snack (sushi) bar with ala carte pricing-not fine dining and hard to get to (deck 12). Food in buffet is not worth the trouble. There was no lobster night (we paid premium price for it in spec restaurants). And no midnight buffet. Overall, food variety and choices show budget concerns more important than customer satisfaction. Overall, cruise had economy feel. Personnel was highlight, staffers really well trained and care. Control of crowds never a problem. Nice time but overall just a 3. Read Less

I'm not really sure why this ship doesn't have better reviews. Just returned from this cruise yesterday (we spent 2 additional days in Stockholm after the cruise) and really enjoyed ourselves. My wife and I (in our early 60's) began the cruise on July 23 and it ended on July 30. Yes, I can see some of the "age" of the ship, but that did not prohibit us from enjoying the cruise. This ship goes into dry dock later this year and will have some increase machinery in the laundry division. I'm not sure cruisers will see much change in the appearance of the ship. We have mostly used Carnival (NCL once) while this was our first RC cruise experience. We do have another RC cruise booked for Christmastime. We had cabin 8590 which is a balcony stateroom. Our balcony was smaller than other balconies because we were in the "hump" of the ship and that required our balcony to be smaller. That did not diminish our enjoyment of the cruise or the balcony. Cabin attendant was friendly and efficient. We've had better attendants in previous cruises, but not to say this one was "bad." I will give Carnival's shower head a "shout out" over RC's. RC's shower head reminds me some yesteryear's experience! I liked the shower closet part over Carnival's shower curtain, but the shower head "war" belongs to Carnival. Some people had difficulty determining how to work the controls in the shower. On the left, is the water pressure and on the right, is the water temperature (in Celsius degrees). RC provides liquid shampoo (would be nice if it were labeled) and a bar of soap. I had no problem "getting around" the bathroom. Stateroom was fine, bed a bit hard, I guess. Asked for an additional pillow (made 3 pillows for each of us) and that was fine. Plenty of storage space for clothing. Safe was available. A/C worked and had no problems with it. Did not watch much TV (too busy with other activities!) Rest of the ship was fine. We swam in the Solarium since the weather in the Baltic was cool. My only complaint was the staff didn't consistency enforce the "no children" rule. There were times when children were allowed, which is fine. But when they were not allowed, the staff didn't consistency enforce the rule (they did sometimes, but not at others!). Anyway, the main dining room was excellent both in food quality and service. Windjammer was indeed busy, but food was good. We found the service to be fine in the Windjammer although I read many negatives about it. It IS chaotic to be sure. I would think some direction about "where to start" each station would be beneficial. However, we enjoyed the experience each morning and lunch for the most part. We ate in the dining room for breakfast once and service was not the usual excellence as the evening (different waiters). Lunch at seaday also not on par for service. Food quality was always excellent. Trivia games were fun while the "winnings" of the games were somewhat lacking. I don't expect a cruise for winning, but a pen? Really? Can't think of another item to give away?? The magnets were a better item when given away. Entertainment was fine although we didn't always go. ABBAmax was fun and enjoyable. Did not watch any movies (we weren't interested in any of them). Did not frequent any bars, so don't know about that. Shopping seemed to be fairly popular although we shopped, we didn't buy much. Some candy offerings would be nice. Lastly, the ports were simply wonderful. From Stockholm, to Helsinki to St. Petersburg, to Tallin (our favorite), to Riga were great. Used RC tours for St. Pete. Otherwise, toured on our own. Overall, a fun, enjoyable cruise. Would do it again and recommended. We liked the Serenade of the Seas. Would have no problem returning to the ship in the future. We've always wanted to go to the Scandinavian countries. We have had great success on Royal Caribbean cruise line before. We were especially pleased with the service on board. All crew members were extremely polite and more than willing to help out. They often went above expectations in fulfilling our needs. The dining staff became familiar with our taste in foods and made excellent recommendations for food choices. We booked several excursions through RC and all of them were great. We chose to go off the "beaten path" with some of our excursion choices and were not disappointed. In Finland, we went to a horse farm and were able to talk with the owner of the farm about life in Finland. Our guide was very informative about the culture of Finland, as well as facts about the country. We did a similar excursion in Estonia and we were able to tour a dairy farm and sample cheese. We also toured an average Estonian home which was very informative. All of the tours and guides were excellent. Read Less

The Baltic Sea is a wonderful cruising area -- so many fascinating ports. We stayed in Stockholm, Sweden for a few days both at the beginning and the end of the cruise. Embarkation was smooth and fast. In Helsinki, we took the "Free Time at Three Sites" excursion, which was pretty bare bones. It was exactly what it claimed to be -- bus transportation to three different locations -- no further information provided. We took a private tour in St. Petersburg and just walked around Tallinn and Riga on our own. Royal Caribbean provided a shuttle bus between the port and Riga. The shuttle bus was free, which was a surprise. The ship itself was clean and in great shape; the crew was courteous and, for the most part, delivered exemplary service. Our cabin was always kept clean -- I don't know how our steward did it. The Windjammer buffet was crowded at times, so we preferred eating our dinner in the main dining room. When we did eat at the buffet, we appreciated that they had well-prepared Indian food. In the evenings, we didn't attend any of the performances in the Tropical Theater. Instead, we enjoyed the music trivia quizzes or the refreshing Baltic breeze. Read Less

My family and I recently travelled on the Seranade of the seas a mid size crusie ship which can hold 2500 guests over 13 floors.. The ship had something for everyone we all needed a vacation and this experience did not disappoint. It was our first cruise experience and we anticipate experiencing many more. From the moment we stepped on the ship to the point of return the staff looked after all our needs and went beyond our expectations. The ship catered for all our needs my youngest son aged 12 was occupied throughout with different sports, clubs and entertainment opportunities. What an excellent variety of restaurants, the food and wine was simply top class, entertainment facilities / shows were great fun. The excursions were fun and safe and the guides were very informative. We would definitively travel with this company and ship again. Do not hesitate if you get the opportunity to travel on this ship. Read Less
