1-10 of 17 Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas Cruise Reviews for Senior Cruises to Canada & New England
Starting with my first Royal Caribbean Cruise 15yrs ago, then multiple Carnival Cruises after that, we decided to choose Royal Caribbean again because of how much we enjoyed the first one. After 5 Cruises prior to this one in 2018, I’d consider myself experienced and because of that, I have realistic expectations of what a Cruise should entail.
Well, unfortunately this one was the WORST ship ...
The Serenade of the Seas had the worst food that I have had on my 8 cruises. During the day, the Park Café was mediocre with mini quesadillas being the best thing on the menu. At night, the available food was cut in half and the Panini sandwiches were heated using a microwave. No one could tell us way the Panini Press could not be used at night. The cakes and cookies at the Park Café were always ...
We generally cruise Princess but had heard RC was comparable. However, this ship is in dire need of a makeover. The public areas are quite small and they cram you in the main "Centrum" area. We had a large family room (8502) and space was great, but mattress ad furnishings were from the 60s. Incredibly uncomfortable, old and bumpy mattress and chair/sofa were a bit threadbare. There was gum stuck ...
We were not able to get the drinks we wanted on this package. We wanted a double shot of whiskey and we were told that the bartender could lose their jobs because passengers could fall and break their hip. We saw other passengers add a cash tip on top of the bill and then they were given doubles. We saw this at the Schooner bar. The bartender at the Crown and Castle pub was very arrogant. Nothing ...
We chose the new England cruise as we have never sailed that area, with most of our cruises in the Caribbean. From the beginning, the crew appeared to be very short staffed. It was not unusual to see dirty plates left to sit forever in the buffet, and even on the pool deck. A crew member would just walk past the tables loaded with dishes and or glasses, and remove them only when asked. Another ...
I'm usually a fan of Royal Caribbean and have had two previous cruises with them that I would rate as excellent, but this one wasn't. My wife and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary and I had pre-booked an ultimate anniversary package, only to find that after I got on the ship it had been cancelled by Royal Caribbean without any notice to me. Then when I tried to re-book it, I was told that ...
One of the worst cruises with Royal we have been on. The food was terrible including Giovanni's. The food service in general on the entire ship was bad. Room service was a hit or miss, that is only the continental breakfast. One day they were over an hour late but we had to leave, another day they only got half of the order....
The cabin was worn looking also, furniture has seen better ...
This was a New England Canada seven day cruise. Service in buffet area was poor. Food was mediocre at best. It seemed that staff were constantly upselling us as we traversed the ship. Canned music in some areas was so loud it was deafening. Wait staff in main dining room was great. First cruise I have ever taken were there was an upsell on the main dining room menu.( not for specialty restaurant ...
Terrible value for the money. They have pretensions of being an upscale cruise. Two nights are supposed to be formal wear. We wear our tuxes, the table next to us is in shorts and T shirts. Pretty much sums up the cruise. There seemed to be a greater emphasis on selling junk: bad art, cheap jewelry and watches, etc. Also, spa service and cosmetic services. I know this is part of any cruise, ...
The ship is scheduled for dry dock soon so we knew she would be worn and tired. We were happy with her overall appearance.
The cabin again was worn and tired but worked for us. One of the drawers was very difficult to open but nothing we couldn't live with for a week. There was an odor similar to sewer gases in the bathroom all week. For some reason maintenance came mid-cruise and replaced ...
