We chose this ship for the destination and because our group of 13 had 3 children who we thought would enjoy the variety of activities. I was disappointed in the Ovation and will not likely use RCI again. This was our second cruise and if it had been our first, it likely would have been our last.

This was our first Alaska cruise and we selected RCCL for the price and ship. Ovation is a beautiful ship, one of the most beautiful I have been on. (15+ cruises on different lines) It is huge but there was never a point that it felt too crowded. Loved the three ports but wanted to see so much more. Here are some thoughts:

We choose RC Ovation to experience the highly touted Alaska glacier cruise highlights, especially glacier calving touted as spectacular due to global warming. H/E all we got was a ROYAL disappointment.
THEY CANCELLED THE DAWES GLACIER HIGHLIGHT WITHOUT SUBSTITUTING ANYTHING SIMILAR OR OFFERING ANY COMPENSATION FOR THIS HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

We enjoyed this cruise. As a reference point, we've been on Harmony, Allure, and Navigator and 12 other cruises on Disney & Princess . I think this ship was made for Alaska. Beautiful ship but too crowded and too big to maximize cruising Alaska.

Great trip. Weather was beautiful don't make the mistake we did and pack a bunch of winter clothes! Temperature was in the 50's or above the entire trip. A hoodie is all you need for a jacket trust me. You will wear shorts and t-shirts on the boat, hoodie and long pants when you get off. A lightweight rain jacket just in case is also a good idea.
