We purchased a package from Imagine Cruising which involved a 3 night pre cruise stay in the Atlantis Palm Dubai. We were unlucky with the weather as for 2.5 days we had cloud wind and surprisingly for the desert, some rain. It was even too cold to use the waterpark which was attached to the Hotel. The cruise overall was reasonable as food and drink were good as was most of the entertainment. The ship has seen better days but the price reflected this I believe. The cabin was satisfactory. The ports in Oman were disappointing which left Abu Dhabi and a return to Dubai. My illness began during the second night on board and continued until the airplane journey home. I don't know if anyone else on board suffered but i have never experienced anything quite like that. I was confined to room for 24 hours which meant missing a prepaid excursion and I felt too poorly to avail myself of the drinks package I had shelled out for. I contacted Royal Carribean CEO and received a prompt call back. They offered me 40 pounds off my next cruise. Most disappointing. Read Less

We arrived in Dubai the day before the cruise an hour late as usual because of the Emirates flight yet again been late leaving Manchester? EK22 is never on time! Arrived at the Hyatt Regency Deira (after the idiot Taxi driver took us to the Hyatt regency Dubai Creek? Clearly he did not know his way around.) Cost 70aed all in all. The Hyatt staff did everything possible to look after us even getting me a cake as it was my 50th Birthday and a top floor room overlooking the Gulf. In the morning got a taxi to the port (25aed) and check in at the pier was a breeze and we was sat on the deck by 12 having our first beer of the day. After reading previous reviews we did not know what to expect, but after been on the Splendour last year doing the same itinerary we was ready for anything, as that was simply the worst cruise we have ever been on, and we let RC know that. But we did not have to worry our room was spot on, inside on deck 8 good size and good configuration (for the size of the ship), Antonio our room guy was excellent, food in My time dining was spot on always hot and served professionally by Joel and Sandee always with a smile and a bit of Banter, and our reservations (which we booked beforehand) were always ready for us and at the same table which was a bonus. The maitre de every evening came to speak to us every night which was lovely. Entertainment was surprisingly pretty good day and night (after been starved of it last year, The revolvers were pretty good as was the Boogie Wonderland night. Drinks were very expensive and we did not get what we asked for in some cocktails as they did not have the correct ingredients and were substituting them for cheap alternatives which we caught then doing and complained about, as the bar menus said what ingredients needed to be in them. Luckily we had the drinks package but if we did not then our combined bar bill would have been over $1900 which is ridiculous, even water is $4 a small bottle, so 5 bottles each there is $40 gone. Bar staff were a bit abrupt and unfriendly and there was not many of them, but the guys and girls walking around getting you drinks were superb. We thought the ship was pretty tidy, ok it is older and smaller and if you have been on the big ones it is not going to compare, but we was well happy. We met a lovely American couple (Steve and Kathleen) who lived in Costa Rica who got us a cake one night in the dining room for our Anniversary, which was amazing and totally unexpected, if your reading this thanks again. For a small ship give it a go the ports are pretty good, some are not, but hey that's cruising. Disembarkation was a disaster, what a scrum this needs sorting. We would do it again so that says it all. Read Less

Stayed in Dubai pre and post cruise, embarkation and disembarkation was smooth. We had a large interior cabin and had to ask for the bed to be split so that it was easier to get into the beds through the middle rather than the side. The cupboard doors and the drawers need updating, very noisy when opening and closing. We could hear the cupboard doors shut and open in the cabins either side of ours. The food in the main dining room was ok, for 2 days running we were served cold food, noticed on the second day that the waiter took everyone's orders first and than returned from the galley with all the starters, sometimes 20+, by the time we received ours they wee cold. After this we decided to dine in Windjammers were the choice of food was good. We spent most of our day time in the Solarium, although for adults only children were in the pool and jaccuzi until there were asked to leave by the staff. We also noticed that some smokers were smoking in areas which were not the designated smoking area, RC need to monitor and manage this accordingly. Overall the service was good, the ship definitely needs a good makeover but I would not cruise on this ship again. Read Less

Second was Muscat with an over night stay and we walked into the souk.Abu Dhabi we had a free bus to a mall. And as we were staying in Dubai we stayed on board We had no trouble with sun beds and on the sea day the staff did take things of beds that had been on for a long time.We really enjoyed the cruise and wouls use them again. We booked this cruise on the itinerary alone, being a part of the world we had never seen. We were without kids on this trip and having never cruised before on such an old and comparatively small ship we did have minor reservations about this when booking - although being RCCL 'veterans' we had a good idea what to expect! At this point I have to say (and not for the first time) that those who continue to describe ships of a certain age as 'tired' or 'showing their age' are clearly not researching what exactly they are booking. In this day and age all the information you require about anything is easily available so if you don't bother to check it out before you go and adjust expectations accordingly you've only yourself to blame. Making comparisons with Anthem or Oasis or Freedom is just plain ridiculous. In my opinion it's a little harsh to criticise upon your return. First impressions of the ship as you approach her are indeed of a vessel that has been in service for almost 20 years. Once inside however, it is standard Royal Caribbean throughout with all public areas looking pretty damn good after the refurbishment of a few years back. That said, the Solarium if you look closely is in need of a tidy up in places, but we thought everything else was absolutely fine. Our cabin on deck 8 had what looked like a new bathroom and a new mattress and we had no issues with it whatsoever other than some occasional noise from the pool deck above - which we half expected ( research again! ). What really left an impression on us were the crew. Our steward Antonio was possibly the best we've had, whilst Carolina and Vasyl in the dining room were top notch - the latter the best assistant waiter of our 15 cruises. Food in the main dining room was also as good as any we'd had previously, and Giovannis in particular was excellent. For this cruise I'd mark the Windjammer down a notch though, perhaps due to the local availability of certain ingredients. To sum up, we were pleasantly surprised by this ship and if you like cruising and are going on holiday with the intention of relaxing and enjoying yourself then you'll have a good time on the Vision. We will certainly consider another ship of this size for future cruises. Read Less

My wife and I have been cruising since 1992 so we have a wide experience. I would probably put this in the lower end of ships we have been on. First the good: the staff was very friendly and eager to help. The restaurant food was quite good and a good variety. The not so good. First there is the tipping. As I'm from the British Isles we usually tip depending on what we want to give. If we're told what to tip then it's actually a cost and not a tip. You have to pay 18% on all drinks which are expensive enough to begin with as the pound is not doing so well against the dollar. In fact you have to pay 18% on everything you buy. A friend of mine got a massage at over $100 and had to pay 18% of this on top. Plus there's the tip that's taken out every day unless you go to the desk and ask for it to be removed. You used to be able to do this over the cabin phone but now it must be done in person. I suppose they want you to feel to embarrassed to do this in person. I usually don't mind doing paying this but on this ship I did for a very minor reason. But it really annoyed me. We flew from Dublin with Emirates and this company will only let you print out boarding passes two days before the flight. Going of course was no problem. But coming back we would be on the ship, and we weren't going to pay sea Wifi prices. Our travel agent told us the ship purser should do this. I know you can print them at the airport, but my wife and I are not that computer savvy and we prefer to have everything we need in a folder before we travel. Well, two days before our flight home I approached the desk and asked if they could print them for us. You'd have thought I'd asked for him to sail the ship to my home from his reaction. He looked at me with complete disdain. ''We don't offer this service,'' I was told in no uncertain terms. Not even a hint of an apology. ''You can buy our internet package.'' At $17/day this wasn't going to happen. I'd been with other cruise lines where requests like this were not a problem. At the rate I was paying out on tips this should not have been a problem. Our shore excursions were paid for before we left and were very well handled. I would also point out that the entertainment left something to be desired. One of the activities was a 'belly flop' around the pool. The passengers provided further entertainment when there was a ''Mr and Mrs'' contest which embarrassed the people taking part due to its sexual innuendo. Some of it was overtly sexual, like a cheap seaside entertainment. Any cost that could have been cut was done. The toilet paper was about the thinnest you could get. No toiletries. Water in the room which you had to pay for. If you're going to a particular location I would recommend you look for another carrier. Read Less

An extremely friendly ship, the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Other than that we were very disappointed in the ship. The interior cabin was so small it was unbelievable, the furniture was old, chipped and not the cleanest. The bathroom appeared to have had an upgrade but what I couldn't believe is that the ship does not provide toiletries and the single bar of soap had to do for the shower and basin. Loo paper was rough ! Storage was ok. We had two litre bottles of water left in the room of which we drank. We had a charge of $12 on the bill under the heading 'mini bar'. We didn't have a mini bar when I questioned it - it was because we had drank the water. The food was ok,not the standard we have had on other ships. The entertainment was appalling - there was very little of it and what was on offer was very poor quality. The programme didn't run to enable people of both the earlier and later dining times could both see everything. A Frank Sinatra tribute was on from 9-10, second seating was 8.30, no chance to see, just one example and the same sort of thing happened for the earlier dining time. The decks were sooooooo tight with sun beds , no small tables to put drinks on. It was impossible to get on your own sunbed from the side, you had to crawl up from the bottom as the beds were so tightly packed. I WILL NOT CRUISE AGAIN WITH ROYAL CARIBBEAN even it is the offer of the year. Read Less

We chose RC because we have been with them before and they were excellent. This ship has passed its sell by date. The sun loungers are old and some of them broken. As always they have signs prohibiting you from reserving chairs and leaving them unoccupied for more than 30 minutes, and restricting the 9th floor pool to adults only but these rules were not implemented although there were " security guards" . You can tell the age of the ship around the window frames and the cabins are nothing special. We didn't have cold water it was warm and very unpleasant to clean your teeth wth. They tried to fix it but they couldn't because some where along the line the hot water pipes were touching the cold water pipes. If you wanted shower gel YOU had to ask for it. Maid very nice and pleasant. The dining room was good and the service was EXCELLENT thanks to George and Julius 4th Floor table 190. The food was good although portions on the small side. Wines VERY expensive silly prices, however three days into the cruise , bottles of wine were offered at 60% reduction and you could take them to the dining room if you wished! The entertainment was ok but it reminded me of Butlins. Service on board overall was very good, however if you go to the Gym the guy that was supposed to be looking after us spent more time with the entertainment manager than helping us the paying guests! We stopped at a place called Khasab - what a waste of time nothing to see or do. The majority of fellow passengers lasted 5 minutes in this place before returning to the ship. Oman, Muscat two days in this place was too long as after you have seen the Grand Mosque and few other bits there was no much to do, in my opinion. Abu Dhabi to be honest with you I can't remember much about the place. The service charge at 18% is far too high, but having said that, the staff believe it or not if they have a drink they also have to pay yes you guessed 18%. I don't know how true this is but I was told by a few members of the staff that the prepaid gratuities are going to Head Office in Miami and if they are lucky they might get 20% of the share. This was the first time I have come across on a cruise that if you wish to dine in other restaurants you have to pay considerable $$$$. There is a cash ATM that dispenses only $$$ they charge you $6.50 per transaction plus what ever rate of exchange they apply. Would I recommend this cruise NO! Read Less

Embarkation turned into a disorganised chaos when the gangway started moving. The cabin was a good size but why no mini fridge or bathroom requisites. We knew from experience that the water in the cabin would cost more than a pint of beer in a shoreside pub so we declined it. Drinks generally were very expensive and the addition of an 18% service charge is a rip off. Inside this ship was very clean but omg outside this was the dirtiest cruise ship we have ever been on. We never saw a deck attendant for the whole seven days. Puddles were never cleared. There was sand on deck after a rainstorm and this was just left where it fell, as was the fall of soot from the funnel which contaminated the after decks and the passengers on one sunny afternoon. The sunbeds were filthy. We doubt they had ever been cleaned with the grime ground in to the plastic. Excursion staff failed to deliver tickets booked for trips and this was only resolved by a frantic dash to the tour desk shortly before the tour was due to depart. Not a word of explanation or apology was forthcoming. The food was generally good and the service excellent with one exception - I am still waiting for my breakfast porridge!!! The timing for entertainments made attendance at several of the shows inconsistent with fixed time dining. Other cruise lines seem not to have this problem. Curates egg (good in parts) sums this up. We were fortunate to share a table with experienced Royal Caribbean cruisers who agreed with us about this ship, however they assured us that this was not the usual Royal Caribbean standard. It seems that the Royal Caribbean watchword is "that'll be extra". Read Less

Overall good cruise. Fantastic service from stateroom staff, along with the service from concierge lounge. The service in the reception and shore excursion was at an all-time low - but overall good service other places. We were surprised at how good the food was in the aquarius restaurant with good service. A bit noisy, and with "forced seating" with strangers at our table (made good friends though!) but overall a nice experience. Dining in the windjammer, not so good. Ports of call was an interesting mix. Khasab was not at all interesting. We made an excursion by bus through RCCL - but the most horrendous guide ever. Also made an excursion in Muscat (much better location), but again guide subpar quality. Another guide in Abu Dhabu - better this time, but still not worth money nor while. My tip for this itinerary; stay onboard or book excursions yourselves, especially if you are under 40 years of age. Read Less
