Fantastric ship, pity about the onboard prices

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Independence of the Seas

The Independence of the Seas is truly a fantastic ship. From first boarding at Southampton we were nothing less than impressed with the size, cleanliness and friendly crew. Nothing was too much trouble for the crew and many went out of their way to assist and ensure that the whole experience was second to none. However we were certainly not prepared for the astronomically expensive price of ...

Boarding was delayed due to the previous cruise being affected by an outbreak of a virus and the ship having to undergo a "deep-clean" but we were informed via email of this fact. Despite this boarding went smoothly and we were eventually allowed access to our cabin at about 4pm. The cabin itself was spacious with comfy beds and ample storage including space under the bed for the suitcases. ...

Firstly the good things had a guaranteed cabin which turned out to be a promenade cabin, wonderful just loved it. Everything looked as wonderful as we had remembered it. Disappointment number one was Dinner. Service was poor but just the first night so waited. Food on second night just awful, steak overcooked although requested rare, vegetables including roast potatoes were tiny cubes served ...

This may have only been a 3 night cruise and may differ from 7 day cruise who knows. This is the first time we have cruised with Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas and I must admit this is an amazing ship which so much to see and do, and I would like to say the following: Good Points Amazing ship with so much to see and do and found it quite easy to get ...

Recently returned from a short 4 day cruise from Southampton (UK) to Copenhagen.Day 1. We arrived at Southampton around 1030 as it was the Royal Wedding day and we had read that the wedding could be seen onboard, we got to the Mayflower terminal (had been due to leave from city terminal but a Celebrity ship was there), check in was easy, priority line moved just as quickly as the other lines, got ...

Boarding on 4th April was delayed as the ship needed to be deep cleaned following an outbreak of norovirus on the cruise before. We were advised of this in an email approx 4 days before departure, which was fine.We were very pleased to be presented with our 'Diamond' status certificate by the cabin attendant on the first day. The formal acknowledgement was appreciated. Its a shame that was pretty ...

We received an e mail 2 days before the cruise informing us that due to the "Novirus" we wouldn't start boarding before 2-00pm in fact the gates would be locked so it was pointless turning up until after that time. When we arrived at 1-30 the queues were just building up and true to their word they didn't start unloading the cars until 2-00. Nevertheless we were parked up by 2-30 and joined the ...

There was confusion at Southampton about the boarding time so we were sent off to IKEA to have coffee. The boarding process was similar but mercifully a bit quicker than an airport. Our cabin (stateroom) overlooked the Promenade or shopping mall. We found this useful for watching the parades and were more than happy with the size and facilities. The soundproofing was remarkably good. Oddly, we ...

Christmas & New Year NO COOKING !!! YAHOOOOO !!!

Lets start with the basics, THE BOARDING PROCEDURE was the usual efficient RCCL boarding, I have never had any real problems with the RCCL boarding and this was no exception. It was as smooth and fast as usual, but then again we are Diamond members and the queue for boarding is normally shorter than the other queues. The main complaint about the boarding was not being told about the ...

This was my 9th cruise 8th with RCI. We were on the Independence of the Seas sailing from Southampton 29/11/2010 for an 11 night cruise to the Canaries. We stayed in Southampton the night before joining the ship and saw the ship come into port from our bedroom window. Getting on-board was extremely painless. car-parking was booked and our bags taken. Short walk (follow the yellow line) to the ...
