We enjoy transatlantic cruises . This is the fourth with Independence . The ship is definitely old fashioned now. Food was nowhere near as good as last year. We could eat in Chops Grille for breakfast but often decided to go to the Windjammer where the food was hot.

There is a definite decline of RCCL cruises out of Southampton. Without sounding a snob these cruises appear to becoming holiday centres like Butlins and Pontins on board a large cruise ship. We experienced smoking, very bad language and at times drunkenness in the casino and some bars. We went on this cruise with a group as a business trip. The food was below par, the buffet was the leftovers from the dining room the night before. Cruise was chosen mainly based on ports of call. All of which we enjoyed.
Embarking usually was smooth. Whenever it was time to return to ship, lines were very long. Cruise was crowded and there were always lines whether to eat, if you had a question or needed help at the main desk.

My partner wanted me to try out cruising. We did Northern Europe 9 nights as a starter. Glad it wasn't any longer!!! We had a Deluxe (it wasn't) balcony room, tired and dated.
