I was looking forward to a nice elegant ship and this was the wrong choice. The ship was very dated, carpets and chairs worn out. The food was terrible and there was no entertainment. I have been on a lot of cruises and this is the worst food I think I was ever served. The crew was not upbeat or friendly. It felt as if they were wanting it over and didn't want to go out of their way to say hello. The entertainment was good but there was not enough of it. Unless you gamble there was nothing to do from 7pm to 10:30 pm. And at 10:30 pm the disco opened. Much too late after a day of sun. The excursion was fun and that was the best part of the trip. I would not recommend this ship to anyone. It needs to be scrapped and refreshed. Which I was told by staff the ship is getting remodeled in April 2018. That would explain a lot. Read Less

My husband and I had never been on a cruise, so we opted for a short one to see how we liked it. My husband did a lot of research, and we have many friends who gave us plenty of advice. We live in the Houston area, so the drive to Galveston was not a problem. We boarded probably around 11am. Getting on board was so easy. Maybe it was because we went so early, but we never got stuck in any long lines. We seemed to get through the check in process pretty quickly and easily. I was honestly mostly worried about getting seasick. I had some patches on hand, but didn't want to use them unless I actually got sick. I was pleasantly surprised when I didn't get sick at all! But enough about me. The cruise was more than I expected. I LOVED having so many choices in things to do each day. The itinerary we received for each day of the cruise was awesome. So many games, shows, demonstrations....it was great for people like us who like to do different things, but can never quite decide. We saw a comedy show, game shows, played trivia in one of the bars, went to art auctions, went to karaoke night, played BINGO...etc. I even participated in the Thriller dance the cruise director was teaching. SO FUN! The food was excellent in the Windjammer. I loved all of the choices. And dinner in the Aquarius was always delicious. The servers were top notch! They would move heaven and earth to get us whatever we wanted..if we were difficult like that...but we're not. :-) Our room was fantastic! We did book a junior suite since it was a great deal and it was just the 2 of us, but I loved it. Our attendant was awesome . He kept our room in order and was always there if we had any questions. The towel animals were super cute! The only areas I wasn't as impressed with were the bars. It just seemed like it always took longer than necessary to get drinks at the bar. And if we were sitting at a table, there never seemed to be enough waiters/waitresses, so we had to wait unusually long periods of time to receive our drink orders. One waitress explained to us that the gratuity included in the bar tab would be distributed partiallly to the staff and the rest to Royal Caribbean. So it sounded like she was insinuating that we should tip her directly. I was uncomfortable with her telling us that. It only happened once, and I had a drink package anyway, so, regardless, we weren't tipping as we went. I just found it odd that she would actually tell us that. Other than that, everything else was fabulous on the ship itself. It was a one stop cruise. We did do an excursion to one of the ruins. We would have liked more time at the ruins since our tour guide talked a bit too much. The bus seats on the bus we were on could use some maintenance since several of the aisle seats were so loose, you couldn't sit comfortably. Just a little bit of weight on the back of the chair and it would recline into the person's seat behind you! It was not the most comfortable ride for my husband as a result. But it was air conditioned at least. We didn't know what to expect, but we know it could have been so much worse. The good outweighed the annoying on the excursion, so it was still enjoyable. So our first cruise was a success! We are hoping to do another one in the future with our children. We know we will need to look at larger ships that have more things for the kids to do though. But we were very happy with Royal Caribbean and will definitely recommend it to others. Read Less

We are long standing Royal Caribbean cruisers (17 years) with Diamond Status... soon to be Diamond Pus... My wife became disabled last year and this cruise proved to be the WORST experience we have ever seen since she became disabled. There was no evidence of "family handicapped restrooms," which required us to return all the way to our cabin if my wife needed a restroom. On a ship almost four football fields long, this can be a long walk to the restroom! The passageways were narrow during embarkation and debarkation we virtually had to roll over other people's luggage and the staff did little to help us. Only the officers we saw took any action to assist. I chaulk this up to training and lack of supervision! The ship was so crowded, people in wheelchairs and/or scooters found it difficult to get in/off elevators without other passengers glaring at them for holding them up. Moving around in the dining rooms was like trying to negotiate a maze. The crew/staff seemed untrained to handle these situations. Unlike older class ships where their were entrances on multi-decks, and people in wheel chairs might find space closer to the stages, the only way to view a show in any of the theaters on the Oasis was from the very back and top of the theater. To many this is known as the "nosebleed" section. Even then, many times THESE areas were taken up by NON-Handicapped passengers and the staff would do nothing to fix this. Being told to come earlier is not an acceptable answer, as any handicapped person knows, we move slower in crowded situations such a 6,000-passenger ship. I wonder if Royal Caribbean ships pass the guidelines for American's with Disabilities Act.. or being an international Company, they are not required? At any rate. this was a HORRIBLE experience. There were 29 in our group overall everyone enjoyed the cruise. Lots of activities to join if you wanted something to do or you could just relax by the pool. The shows were amazing. Mama Mia production was stupendous. I do not recommend the Speakeasy Party at $35 per person plus your costume. We dined in 3 of the specialty restaurants, Chops-Awesome food and presentation worth the money. 150 Central Park-Awesome food and presentation worth the money Giovannis Table-we did not like the food. I was disappointed Our cabin 14650 was great and quiet. Staff on the ship very friendly and courteous. I am a smoker there are only 3 areas to smoke. Casino, Deck 15, deck 16 only 2 tables there. The ashtrays are not emptied often. I feel the cruise line looks down on smokers. We went to Nassau, St Thomas is still showing Hurricane damage but St Marten was really damaged by the hurricanes. Both islands still need help in cleaning up their debris. Read Less

Overall a clean and well organized ship. Service was good as was the food. Service at the bar next to the Aqua Theater was slow and disorganized, first come could be last served. Elsewhere the bar service was great although a margarita tasted different every time a different bartender served one. My only major complaint is the cigarette smoking in the casino. The casino is "50%" smoking and "50%" non smoking. However there are no partitions or dividers between the two halves of the casino. Thus the non-smoking side is really really smokey. Now i am not a gambler so no big deal however the casino has no doors. So the smoke drifts outside into the elevator lobby and into the Grande Restaurant. Making going to dinner a gagging experience. Even inside the restaurant at the tables near the doors you can strongly smell the smoke. In this day and age I am at a loss to explain why Royal Caribbean believes that exposing their guests to strong secondhand smoke is acceptable?? Read Less

It was our fisrt cruise experience. The only thing bad I have to say is the waiting time to initialy board the ship and the lack of chairsspace around the pools area when cruising. Other than that, everything was just wonderful. The food was excellent, the staff was always friendly and smiling. The entertaiment coordinator was funny and very "entertaining". The ship in all was like a floating town. Lots of pools and hottubs. All the shows were wonderfuld. It felt like being on Broadway. The cast, the sounds, the decors were amazing. The cabin were pretty big considering we were on a boat. The water pressure in the shower was amazing compare to some resort we went to... I reserved all our off shore excursions on the internet in advanced. The tickets were waiting for us in our room so we did nit have to wait in line at the Shore excursions counter on the ship. All three of our excursions were wonderful. Spent a day at Atlantis in the Bahamas; 5 Stars Island Tour in St-Thomas; Double Decker Tour in St-Marteen with an afternoon at a beach that was of walking distance from the boat. Overall FANTASTIC!! We took this cruise as part of an organised group singing event. We've never really been tempted by taking a Cruise with Royal Caribbean but this provided a perfect oportunity to sample the service offered by this cruise line. Embarkation was very swift and smooth. Once check in was complete there was only a matter of 10 minutes or so waiting time before boarding. Access to our cabin was delayed a short while but this allowed time to go to the Windjammer to sample our first dining experience. One does have to allow for the fact pretty much everyone converges on this dining area on embarkation so we were expecting it to be busy but nonetheless found a table fairly swiftly. We were however disappointed by the range of food available. The salad in particular only really offered your very basic core ingredients (lettuce, tomato cucumber etc) and the bread seemed to be the leftovers from the last cruise - quite stale. About half way into our dining experience we got chatting to some fellow cruisers only to be met by a very loud check 123 and very loud music over the PA system. Not sure if it was simply patched through to the wrong area but it was very annoying for those trying to have a conversation. This was the 1st experience of dining on the ship and sadly it didn't get much better for the rest of the cruise. The group package we were on pretty much kept us to the main dining room. Our allocation was the early dining at 17:30 which seemed extraordinarily early! Service was ok there. We had specific dietary requirements for my wife which caused a little confusion to start with. We had informed RCCL of this several months beforehand and responding email had advised us to check in with the Restaurant Manager on the 1st day. Initially this guy was nowhere to be found and it took a fair amount of time to work with our waitress to get this sorted. Once it had been I have to say the Chef and staff worked very well to accommodate our needs. Overall the quality of the food in the main restaurant was ok but nothing special. our biggest gripe with the other areas and the most disappointing aspect of the whole cruise was the lack of food options later on in the evening. Such an early sitting means inevitably you are pretty peckish after early evening activities and a need to top up with some hot snacks. This has never been an issue on the previous 3 cruise lines we have been on but RCCL fell way way below our expectations with all dining areas closing after 21:00!! Incredibly the only options are cold sandwiches or rather unsightly looking pizza in the Pavillion Cafe or very limited room service at for a very high service charge (plus delivery and tax!) You can imagine the queues late at night at the Pavillion with this being pretty much the remaining option for any kind of complimentary food. To make matters worse you have to queue once for the food and again for drinks in this venue not helped by the fact there is only 1-2 very slow members of staff at each station non of which appear to have any charisma which brings me swiftly onto our next disappointment. The service in general is there if you ask for it but I have to say there is no real feeling of cruise staff actually wanting to make an effort to provide a service and be friendly in the process. - Quite surprising considering it's a ship full of Americans who thrive on over-enthusiastic customer service in almost any environment. Hardly any of the dining staff appeared to have a smile. The Pavillion Cafe staff in particular seemed generally miserable. We do wonder though if this is simply down to failure in training from RCCL rather than the personal character of the staff. The exception in all this was the amazing "washy washy" guy as you enter the Windjammer. He somehow managed to turn the most mundane job of ensuring you clean hands before entering into a party atmosphere! always smiling, always dancing this guy was awesome and should be promoted up to the ship's entertainment staff. We also noticed a lack of presence of senior officers and staff. We must have seen the Captain once and I can't recall seeing any other officers which is highly unusual. The Ship's main entertainment Director also seemed very allusive. Something else we are just not used to. We only saw him being the MC for the major shows and that was about it. No announcements, no getting involved with demonstrations and chats - nothing. Our last comment on staff finally comes to the main guest service desk who were quite simply arrogant and rude. Twice they gave us incorrect information and all the time were simply miserable. Finally our last gripe comes to the organisation the excursions. Overall the choice of excursions is second to none. There is something for everyone on this cruise be it lazy days on the beach, action adventure, exploration or historical visits. There are also in our opinion very reasonably priced. We were glad we waited to book on the ship rather than pre booking and took advantage of a flash sale following a presentation on the second day and all tours seemed to be available on a full ship which was great! Sadly the organisation when you disembark leaves little to be desired. for some bizarre reason multiple tours are allocated the same tour sticker and number meaning anyone trying follow people in your party gets very confusing. The second day of excursions got even more confusing as there was no allocation of stickers and no meeting in the Theatre meaning you had to fend for yourselves ashore to find the right tour. Disembarkation times were incorrect (cue the confusion at the miserable guest services) meaning a lot of confused passengers at the gangway. Overall I think in general this is not the cruise line for us. We're glad to have had the experience of trying out RCCL but it's not one we would choose in future. Read Less

We were part of a bigger group of like-minded people on the Freedom of the Seas, so the itinerary was secondary. Weather and waves prevented us from visiting one of the 3 stops, which was disappointing, but these things happen and you just accept it. I have traveled all over the world and cruised over 10 times, so I hope my info is helpful. Kudos to: Sabor, the Mexican specialty restaurant, which served the best Mexican food we have ever had anywhere. Period. Too much to describe. Giovanni's food was great, too. Not that impressed with the Chops Grill. Was happy we had prepaid for the 3-night specialty restaurant package. The Windjammer breakfasts were awesome. Never ate in the main dining room for breakfast. Food selection everywhere was amazingly good. The Boleros bar had a good selection of tequilas, which is all we drink. Spa treatments were both top notch. Ship was clean everywhere. We had a great cabin steward whose twice-daily service to our junior suite was wonderful. The junior suite was worth the extra money, even on a cruise this short. We are thinking about going on the Allure over New Year's 2018-2019 and it was good to see RCCL is still a decent cruise line. Disappointments - Not having a second bottle of anejo tequila on the entire ship. Paying for the premium drinks package because Evian water was included in it and then having virtually nowhere on the ship to get it. Having a $7 surcharge to go to the burger bar, Johnny Rockets. (Small wonder it was deserted.) Same with charging for room service. Never been on a ship before which charged for it. Taking my power strip for "safety" reasons. Of course missing one of the port stops was a sad thing. Read Less

This was a group tour. The ship is nice, but the cruise is all about the ship. I prefer to see new ports and experience new sights. The Central Park in the Oasis class of ships is really great. Its nice to see plants when sailing for 3 days with nothing to look at but water. The food in the main dining room was very good. Service in the dining room was slow, but friendly, and they tried to make up quickly for any errors. The cafe in Central Park was also a nice place to get a breakfast without the crowd at the Windjammer buffet. The Windjammer buffet was unimpressive. We ate at "Chops" and felt it was worth the cost. The Solarium Cafe was ok if you got there early, but got too crowded and they were slow to clean tables. We enjoyed the shows, but "Cats" was bad. Many left at intermission. The cast was great, but you couldn't hear the words on any group songs. Our cabin was the usual, but clean and the steward was great. RCI was bad in accommodating our group. They misled us, and when I called our group coordinator, she basically blew me off. I might try RCI on a smaller ship. Read Less
