I chose the cruise to celebrate my son’s 55 birthday. He wanted to go to Cuba and we like Royal Caribbean. When Cuba got cancelled we decided to go anyway. This itinerary is not good. The Bahamas is a big nothing. The tour we went on was very poorly organized and we drove in circles for 3 hours. Coco Cay is beautiful, but they charged a lot of money extra for all the activities. The ship is old and very unorganized. The staff didn’t know where anything was. The food was very poor quality. It is almost impossible to get a salt-free diet. My husband has a heart condition and his food was special ordered but came out salty. None of the staff smiles or tries to be friendly. We asked for a sharing table because we like to meet people, so they put us at a table for 12 people and nobody else showed up. So after complaining to no avail, last night I went around the dining room and saw all the other big tables with only 2 people and invited others to join us, which they happily did. At that point I was admonished because I upset their system. My answer was that in the hospitality business they should have been more proactive. I will never go on this ship again. Read Less

My wife and I took this cruise for our 10th wedding anniversary. We had an outstanding time. Even though we were initially scheduled to go to Havana, Royal Caribbean rerouted us to Costa Maya and gave us 50% credit for the trip. We did The Mayan Ruins excursion there and it was great. In Cozumel, we took the submarine ride. I highly recommenced it. Everyone on the ship was extremely friendly and helped us with any questions we had. The cabin was well taken care of. The food was outstanding. Our 2 Waiters, Kris and Mario did an amazing job. Super friendly and just kept bringing us anything we wanted. Also I think the cruise director, Tornado Tanya and her staff did an outstanding job with entertainment. The process of boarding the ship and also disembarking was extremely easy. I was amazed at how quickly the process went. We will be taking another cruise soon. Read Less

We live in Florida so we didnt explore the port town. The process getting on board was normal and smooth. The staff on board were pleasant but it wasn't as lively as other Royal cruises I've been on. The hallways to room had a mildew smell that seem to come and go through out the cruise. We were on level 5 which seemed to be perfect location to everything and not too bad to take stairs if elevators were busy. There were few options for food outside of dining times. The windjammer had very little hot food and seemed to always have leftovers from main dining the night before ( cold squid, shirmp, scallops and whole fish eyes and all!) YUCK!!! Also the variety was terrible. With the exception of the pizza place the other places had the same exact food. The water was pretty good but the tea had a funky taste and the coffee was like drinking oil. I love strong coffee but you could add enough creamer or sweetener! Absolutely the worst food! The last shows were ok but the last one was the only one we thought was a good job. Maybe they were new together but there was a ton of technical difficulties. The band was impressive but the shows were just not that good compared to other cruises. Also I would have bought more photos if the photographers would have taken time to say hey your bra strap is hanging out or your necklace was sideways. I was really looking forward to a good photo of our family. :-( Also the drinks were so stinking weak!!! 2 drinks was 25.00. It just blows me away I could spend 75.00 and not even get tipsy and I'm an occational drinker! The rest of the cruise was typical with funny game shows, and contest. I liked that smoking wasn't allowed everywhere. I only smelled it when I went to the bar by the casino. The kids club was my favorite part. My Daughter loved the teacher Ms Salsa! My daughter has TYPE 1 diabetes and I was concerned it would be a problem but they didn't seemed phased by it. They took instruction called us with any questions, gave us a beeper and only charged 7.00 per hour if she stayed later. She had so much fun she begged us to go! We could pick up any phone around the ship and check on her. Absolutely our favorite part. I will probably never go on this ship again. It just wasn't that good. Read Less

This was not our first cruise so we have had some experience to compare it to. First let me say I was highly disappointed when they informed us we would NOT be going to St. Thomas island because one of the "pods" had a bearing that may be going bad. Really? That was just the start and the only thing that was preventing this review was the fact that I did not know how to capture soooooo many sub-par experiences in one review (plus, I really do not want to relive the experience again). It was my 25th wedding anniversary and we had the whole 18 member family on board. The boarding process was atroshes and one big cluster muck from arrival in the transport to boarding the ship. Yes, there are a lot of guests to process, but i'm guessing this isn't their first rodeo and they should have it pretty dialed in. This crew on the dock, checking luggage, processing reservations, .... seemed like a bunch of rookies. You have been going for hours and now it's lunch time, oops, sorry the WIndjammer Market isn't open yet. When they did open a half hour late it appeared they were NOT ready for the rush of hungry passengers. This made dinner even more important. Since we purchased the dinner package it should never be expected that someone should say, "Well, it's not bad for free." It wasn't free and it was 3 shades worse than bad. It was a disgrace for an upscale dinner. Oh, the food was quality, but it was never even warm when it got to the table. By night 4 I was so disgusted I said to the head waiter, "Are you experiencing difficulties with the kitchen equipment, or do you alsways serve the food cold?" I'm not kidding, cold not even luke warm. The only night we had hot food was when we skipped the dining room and went to one of the "private" restaurants on board, Chops. Lunches were just as bad in the Windjammer and if you do not remember high school lunch hours and having to find a seat and eat as quickly as you could, well, this will bring that right back to the frontal lobe. Me and 6500 other people trying to eat in a place with about 2500 seats. Breakfast and lunch were the same as dinner and were seldom warm. Example, spinach omelot was so cold that it had like a shell on it. Disgusting. I'll stay away from talking about the pools, but if this is one of the main reasons you are going- to lie by the pool? Well, you better plan to get up very early, go place a towel of a book or something on the chairs you want so when the time comes, you will have a seat. The pool? If you planned to swim, rethink that. You can sit in the pool shoulder to shoulder with a couple of hundred other guests. No room to swim. We took plenty of exursions but every one was a mad rush to get off the boat and just as bad coming back. One of trips we were to gather with several hundred other guests for an early exit off the ship so that we would be able to avoid the rush and get to the ferry boat. We went to the auditorium at 10 till 11 as ordered. We sat there after being told 10 different times that "It will just be another 10 minutes." That's right more than an hour and a half later we left the ship WITH everyone else. There was no one telling our group to go, no signs, no guides, just following the crowd. Finally, probably a mile off the dock someone starts yelling, "If you are in group 2 you need to line up here." We all lined up and stood in the bahama sun for 15 minutes. Finally we start walking and we walk for what would appear to have been 4 miles. I wouldn't have been so mad except I wasn't allowed because of age, over 45 Read Less

I chose this cruise for the islands that it offered. I was extremely upset to find out the one of the islands was changed. Even thou Puerto Rico was "ok" it wasn't close to St.Maarten. That was extremely disappointing. The food was fantastic nice variety. There should have been more food available late at night for alcohol consumption. The staff was great! My sheets were disgusting dirty yellow stains on sheets and pillow cases. Under the sofa and bed were dirty not cleaned. There was too many theater based activities. Loved the zip line, the pools could have been separated for adults and kids.Not big enough to hold all those people. Got smack by a child's elbow. What ever. The Jacuzzi where beautiful well done. The stores were all high end, did not accommodate middle class income. The spa was extraordinary! Well done the atmosphere was incredible The spas were too push on selling you an item. maybe suggesting is better the pushing a sale. Love the itemized bill. very accurate. Not sure about the drink package, The wait at the bars were horrible, I actually calulated a 15 minute wait. Some bar tenders were rude. One female. I felt bad for the Life Guard who has to stand guard for 1 person, dumb. but I get it. Some of the bathrooms were gross! Pee everywhere. Our dinner staff was the best and love the dancing we did with them. Everton specially, he was great serving our table, made it very enjoying. Love him The disembarkation for Bermuda was horrific. We absolutely loved our RC cruise on Allure of the Seas. There were a total of 7 of us in 3 separate rooms on 2 different floors. We had an adjoining room with our teenage daughters(rooms 7151 and 7153), interior rooms. Room 7151 had the two twin beds pushed together and a sofa bed for our teenage son. The adjoining room(7153) just had two twin beds. The rooms were as expected with ample closet space with lots of hangers, storage shelves and storage cabinets. The luggage was easily stored under the bed. There is a dim light in the bathroom that stays on all the time as this was an interior room. No need for a night light which was nice. There was an outlet with 3 slots to plug things in though no USB slots. We brought our own. Our room steward Delroy was awesome and very helpful. He brought us anything we needed(extra towels and ice). There is a small refrigerator in the room which was empty when we got there. We used it to store water bottles. The room was very quiet, yet close to the stairs and elevators. I think for next time, we would like to be on level 3(American Icon) in about the same location(forward, port side), on the Allure. The ship itself is massive! There are two partial floors that are open to the sky(Central Park, which is just like it sounds...greenery, flowers, trees and bushes, which are expertly trimmed in the early morning hours). Central Park also has Park Cafe which has convenient and quick sandwiches, wraps and breakfast items in the morning. There are several other restaurants($) on this level that we did not go to. It was always very peaceful in this area. The other partially open level is The Boardwalk. Here you will find the carousel, the donut shop, Johnny Rockets(only ate the free breakfast here and not lunch$ or dinner$), the mexican restaurant Sabor$, and the Aqua Theater. I heard the margaritas at Sabor were really good, though I never tried one. The margarita I had at one of the other bars was awful! The other main area was the Promenade(level 5), which is where all the street parties and sales happen. There are several bars, Sorentos(pizza), Cafe Promenade(coffee shop with pastries) and several shops. I believe the Rising Tide bar runs between this floor and Central Park. We signed up for “my time dining” and we had reservations every night, though we still had to wait 10-15 minutes to get a table. We dined at tables 1 and 2 with Boney(head waiter), Clestain(assistant waiter), and Dilip(table bartender) for 4 of the 7 nights. We cannot say enough nice things about this group of men. They were friendly, outgoing, accommodating and just plain fun to be around! They made our cruise feel special! They even brought us extra food before we even had a chance to ask for it. The wait staff manager for our area Mariel was friendly as well. She made a point of checking on us every night we were seated in that section. June at the hostess station remembered us after the first night and tried to accommodate our seating requests each night. We were also seated twice at tables 139 & 140 with Eugenio(head waiter) and Javen(assistant waiter). They were so nice and friendly! The food was good for the most part. An item here or there may have been a little over cooked or dry, but overall the food was really good. We loved the many choices and the “classics” food items. We ate all dinners in the main dining room on level 5. We had breakfast in the main dining room(they had buffet and a la carte), Johnny Rockets, Park Cafe and the Solarium(buffet). The eggs benedict in the MDR were excellent, as was the corned beef hash! We had lunch once in the MDR, once in the Windjammer Cafe(buffet only), a few times in the Wipe Out Cafe, and the Solarium. Our favorite bartender was Komang at the Mast Bar. We met him when we first arrived on the ship and he was our favorite throughout the trip. He mentioned that he had only been working on Allure of the Seas for two weeks! I never would have guessed that! He was awesome! After the first day, he never even asked me for my set sail pass as he remembered our room number every time. He did a great job and never complained about the heat(and it was extremely hot where he was tending bar). We also loved the casino bartenders. We did zip lining and rock climbing and watched the action at both Flow Riders. All of the crew that helped with these activities(and others I’m sure) were very encouraging, helpful and kind, whether you were 10 years old or 56 years old. We went to 4 shows and all were excellent(Blue Planet, Aqua Show, comedy show and the head liner-comedy). Comedy shows were funny and stayed away from politics. Our daughters saw Mamma Mia and loved it. I believe the ship holds about 6500 guests and 2200 crew members. The only time that we ever felt crowded was disembarkation at Nassau and getting off the pier. No other time did it feel like there were that many people on the ship. We also loved the way the photos were set up in binders with numbers. They were easy to find and somewhat easy to order. Though several of our group photos were not in the binders. I thought that the public bathrooms should have been kept cleaner. Paper and water were always on the floor and around the sinks. Embarkation was the smoothest I've ever experienced and disembarkation was a breeze as well. Read Less

This was our first cruise and our last vacation as a family. We had so much planning and money that went into this vacation knowing it would be our last. Two months before we left we got a change in itinerary that shortened our stay in Puerto Rico and Labadee due to propeller problems on the ship. I understand RC can change itinerary at any time per the contract. However, during our trip there was a medical emergency and the boat had to return to San Juan. Due to the existing propeller problem the captain told us we were unable to make it to Labadee or any other port to make up for it. They also said they were having a meeting with corporate that day to discuss compensation. It was my son's birthday and we had jet skiing, coaster rides and a beach day planned. We now had another day on the boat which was already getting old at this point having been on it for so many days with so little port time due to their initial change. We called RC when we returned and they said, sorry they are offering nothing as compensation. In the contract, it says, if changes are made due to technical issues, compensation will be made. We will never cruise Royal Caribbean due to there horrible customer service. Allure was a beautiful ship, with amazing employees working on it, who went above and beyond to try to make up for the changes. Just want to clarify my 1 star review is for Royal Caribbean, not the staff of the Allure. Unfortunately, corporate is the problem. Our servers in the dining room were amazing, Vladamir and Eduard who were so personable and knew our names and everything we liked the first day. I was a little teary eyed the last day saying goodbye. The food in the dining room was the best we have ever eaten. We were never disappointed in a meal. We felt the windjammer food was very good too. The shows were spectacular also. My husband never saw a musical and he said Mamma Mia was fabulous. The aquashow was exciting. I did not expect much from Blue Planet from the reviews I read but the whole family enjoyed that as well. Our headline show was the juggler from Americas Got Talent Charles Peachock who was spectacular and funny! When you are on a ship with 6300 guests, expect lines for things like rock climbing (1 hr long one day) and flow rider. Could not even get on the ice for ice skating since that filled up so quickly every time we went when they had open skating. My favorite part of the ship was the central park, so peaceful. The ship does really have it all. Even enjoyed the gym and running track. Read Less

We chose this trip because it was at the right time for vacation. We were very excited to go because 2 of the ports we love. Well, first problem was we received an email telling us that we would have a shortened visit at San Juan because of a problem with the propulsion system on the ship. The next problem was that there was a medical emergency (of which they had no control) and the decision was made to turn the ship around and go BACK to Puerto Rico. We were about 4 hours away from there and we made it back in around 2 hours! The repercussions from this was, we could not stop at our final port! We then spent the last 2 1/2 days on the ship! This, instead of 3 full ports of call, we experienced maybe, 1 1/2 ports! What a disappointment! When we called to complain, being Emerald members and loyal to Royal, we got NO SATISFACTION! They told us that the company made the decision to do nothing for any of the passengers! We did not even receive an explanation of what happened or an apology for missing so much time at our ports of call! To be honest, I am now looking for another line to start using, just not Carnival, too many people power drinking! It hurts me to say that we are looking for a new line, because we have NEVER had any problems that they did not try to resolve. Very sad! As far as the on board entertainment, it was wonderful! The food was excellent and the service was spectacular! In that case, it was a typical Royal cruise. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I wanted to experience one of the mega-ships to see what it had to offer that smaller ships don't. I also had never been to the Caribbean so this seemed like an ideal cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation were extremely easy and quick. We checked in online weeks before leaving and were on the ship within minutes of arriving at Port Everglades. Our first impression of the ship was WOW! It literally took my breathe away. The Royal Promenade, Central Park, the Boardwalk etc are amazing. The ship is ten years old but most of the public areas look pretty much pristine. From a design point of view the only downside I could find is that there are no windows or sea-views from many of the public areas and, personally, I like to be able to see the ocean (we are on a ship after all). The carpets and soft furnishings in most areas are looking tired. I believe the ship is due for a refit next year which I think is needed. The cabin was lovely, very clean and well laid-out. The balcony was large compared to most ships and the bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was adequate - average cruise ship bathroom. The soft furnishings in the room looked tired and are in need of replacing. The food was very good in the MDR and the specialty dining restaurants. 150 Central Park was, however, by far superior to any of the others, such a wonderful experience. The food in the buffet was good, but was often too busy to eat in there. Strangely, the buffet seemed incredibly small and out of proportion with the size of the ship. The entertainment was excellent. The Aqua Show and Mamma Mia were brilliant and the headliner shows were pretty good too. I wasn't too keen on the comedy show as I'm British and it was definitely geared towards an American crowd. Strangely the cruise director and his assistant were not very visible around the ship. I think I only saw him in-person once. The activities on the ship were mixed. I did the zip-line over the Boardwalk and it was great fun. The day-time trivia, bingo and usual cruise activities were fine but seemed uninspired and the hosts all looked like they were just going through the motions. On that note, most of the staff came across uninterested and quite rude. The bar staff and MDR servers were clearly overworked and visibly tired. The bars in general were understaffed and we had to wait quite a while for a drink. We had My Time Dining which was laughably slow. We had to wait a long time to be seated and the service was pretty shoddy. Waiters were rude and kept asking us to provide positive feedback on the end-of-cruise survey. The entertainment staff were very false, and just not very good compared to most of the ships I've been on. Out stateroom attendant, Philip, was excellent. The Allure is currently having propulsion issues which meant out time in port was shortened. Four hours after leaving Puerto Rico we had to turn around due to a medical emergency. Unfortunately this meant the next and final port, Labadee, was cancelled. The ports we visited were a little disappointing as we didn't have much time to look around. Only visiting two ports on a seven night cruise is a very strange feeling but being on such a large ship with so much to see made it bearable. I would not go on such a large ship again due to the impersonal service. It has made me realise what is important to me on a cruise and that is feeling like I'm being taken care of, which I didn't feel on this ship. Read Less

I just got off this cruise sailing (June 16th-23rd) and will start by saying WOW!! Where can I start. I booked this cruise as a Father’s Day and daughter cruise which not only blew me away, but made my daughter happier then ever. From the food to entertainment, I couldn’t of asked for a better experience. The shows were beyond amazing. I did see their Aqua Theater show Ocean Aria three times out of the first three nights, I did see Mamma Mia but wish I saw it a second time, Blue Planet twice which was amazing. The Juggling Act of Charles Peachock which is a cant miss. Overall for entertainment, this in my opinion was far above suburb. The food on board was great, buffets were stocked and well organized, I didn’t really experience the sit down locations, since there is so much to do and my daughter was a picky eater. Everything from the burgers ya Wipe Out Cafe to the ice cream poolside was worth the “weight gain” on the ship. The service overall was excellent. Despite a(n) medical emergency which caused our experience to miss Labadee, Haïti where I was excited for our excursion, the crew/staff really held their ground and still made this trip standout. I was disappointed, but coming from a position where I work in hospitality/Guest Services, I understand safety is a priority and need to accept it. I wanted to personally mention The cruise Director, Jimmy Rhodes along with other members of the staff, for balancing out a great experience throughout the week we had. I also wanted to give Captain Ron a huge thank you for his professionalism during the issue that took place and still made this experience outstanding The pool/recreation was great, so many pools (about 4 along with 6-8 whirlpools) made the crowd spread out so it didn’t cause the pool deck to feel clogged. The activities poolside were fun and entertaining, the mini golf, ice skating, flow rider all are great for the kids. The weather was great so it made it worth it being poolside. Finally, the overall service was a solid 10/10. I’m not one to typically write a solid review, but this made me realize why this cruise line the only one I will sail with. The only flaw I experienced which honestly wasn’t a huge issue, was communication in the in-room phone was delayed and no one answered within an reasonable time. That didn’t stop my daughter who’s 6, and myself from having a great time. I hope to those who booked this cruise and are reading this, take this as an example of what you’ll experience. I got this cruise playing MyVegas so only had to pay port fees. We found out 6 days before we sailed that we would not be going to Cuba. We were disappointed but we were also going on vacation so just adjusted our plans. We did have to fly to Fort Lauderdale which took 30 hours due to storms in Atlanta. Spent Sunday at a hotel. Left the hotel and in less than 1 hour we were on the ship. It is a smaller ship, it did seem like some people cancelled as it was not very busy. Our cabin was fine. Always clean and cute towel animals. Crew were always friendly and helpful. Saw crew members cleaning the halls and other areas also. Food was good, as were the drinks. Drinks were very strong which surprised me. Used to all inclusive at which are not strong at all. Stayed on board in Nassau, really enjoyed CocoCay. We did have a really good time on this ship. We have taken our granddaughters on a cruise every summer for the past 10 years. This was our second time with them on the Allure and they loved every minute onboard! These large ships offer a lot of activities for teens ( they are 15 and 17) and as grandparents, we can keep busy doing our thing knowing they are having a wonderful time. We loved the RC app that allowed us to keep in touch, since we never purchase Wi-Fi on the ship. It's annoying to see so many people who "stay connected" on their phones all day instead of enjoying all the ship has to offer.The Allure is beautiful, just big enough without being overwhelming and the crew is exceptional. I needed medical attention for the first time ever in all my 50+ cruises. Nothing major, just a cut that needed a few stitches. I couldn't get over the facility--fully equiped and efficient. We had a balcony overlooking the Boardwalk. Fun watching the Aqua Show from our room. The food in Americon was perfectly fine. We have a vegetarian granddaughter who is fussy and she ate every V meal offered on the nightly menu and loved them. Even though we have seen all the shows (this was our 3rd Allure sailing), we love Mama Mia, Blue Planet and the Ice Show. They never disappoint! We are Casino Royal Prime, so drinks are free. We are a little disappointed that Video Poker machines in a bank to the left of the bar have been replaced by slot machines (that were always empty) since that's our game of choice but we managed to win and lose and have fun, just the same! Maybe the ship wasn't full but there were still loads of passengers.I loved having cruise documents on the app and knowing cabins would be open at 1:30 (they were). Sea Pass was on my door.The storage seemed a little space but I was by myself so had room. My android phone did not fit in the charging station. I still wish there was music in the cabin (brought my own CD player). The entertainment choices were wonderful. From the shows to individual musicians. It was hard to keep on top of what I wanted to hear. Make reservations for big shows if you are a group. It will show up on your app and remind u that u have them. Food was good enough. I especially liked being able to have Indian curry when it was not on the menu. The buffets had big assortments of food. I would have like to have more gourmet cheese like brie to take to my room. Being a Diamond member I liked the free cocktails at bars during cocktail hour. That way I didn't need to go to a specific area for them. Loved the quiet of Central Park. Have booked another cruise in this area.The pools were crowded and water warm with all the bodies. I went to the solarium and kids pools to get in cool water. I loved Momma Mia and saw it 3 times. Our first cruise ever was on our 25th wedding anniversary in 2002 on the Soveriegn of the Seas. My DW and I had never been treated so good. We did 2 other sailings with RCL as well as 2 with Disney, 2 with MSC, 1 with Princess. For this year's cruise we wanted to get back on RCL, so we booked the Allure. Never having been on a "Mega-Ship" we had concerns. We did our homework on the ship. DW and I watched TONS of You Tube videos (Thanks to all that posted!) and I studied the deck plans so we both felt comfortable with moving around on board. WELL ....... the ship was much larger than we could have imagined and even with all our homework we thought "Oh No, we're gonna be lost!" Not the case. Moving about the ship was so simple! The ship is simply beautiful! We loved the "Neighborhood" concept. We booked a Boardwalk Cabin with a great view of the Aqua Theater so we could see the show anytime we liked! John, our cabin steward was AWESOME!!! He treated us like we were the only people in his section! We absolutely loved him! The room itself was great plenty of storage space. Also I let RCL know that I had a CPAP for my sleep apnea and they had an extension cord and a gallon of distilled water for me to use during the cruise.How great is that?! The food was FANTASTIC and our wait staff of Andre(the giant) our assistant waiter, Marlon(Brando) our waiter and Aton(no nickname) our head waiter were absolutely wonderful! We were never in need of anything, anything we wanted we got! They were also just plain great to be around! Wonderful people. RCL's entertainment is top notch. Ocean Aria, Mamma Mia, Earl Turner (Headliner), Blue Planet and Ice Games ...... ALL AMAZING! We also went to comedy live and never laughed that hard in quite awhile! The entertainment staff is funny, engaging and just plain FUN!! Jimmy Rhodes (Cruise Director) and Flavio (Activities Manager) are the best! Jamezy and BeBe are great! We've never had that much fun playing trivia!!! Ice Skating in Studio B, The pools, hot tubs and "The Current" (not giving that one away), rock climbing wall, zip line sport court miniature golf, Flow Rider total thumbs up! The service is simply off the chart! The staff on RCL just can't do enough for you. Cristan (bartender at Sorrento's) and Iris (bartender at the Pool bar) are just the greatest! Other cruise lines do these same types of things and, although I've had good experiences with other lines, it's RCL's people and Customer Service that set it well apart from all the rest! Education is free through University but availability of jobs for a decent wage are slim. The teacher I talked to mentioned they earn about 20 CUCs a month. (Abut $20 in US money). He also mentioned he was not allowed to cruise or leave the island. I asked him about healthcare and he said it was free but they didn’t have medical supplies so it was usually not that helpful. The entertainment on the ship was okay but nothing fantastic. Five night cruise and only 1 really good show. The Royal website described the room as having a bed and couch but that was not the case. Ship was very old, I think 1992. Was dissainted because I bought gift certificates from AARP only to find ou they could only be used on new bookings. Carnival gift cards can be used for OBC. We chose this cruise because it was a good deal for the itinerary. Key West is one of our favorite ports and we had never been to Cuba. We knew the ship was older and we did see signs of wear. The cabin was small but we did not spend much time in it. We food was good. We ate in the dining room whenever we could. It was quieter than the Windjammer. We had the early seating in the dining room. Our waiter and assistant waitress were attentive. We arrived in Fort Lauderdale the day before the cruise so we were able to arrive at the port close to 11 a.m. Embarking was fast. We were in the Windjammer before noon. The first day was at sea. We took part in trivia and other daytime activities. There were enough activities to keep us busy all day. We did go to the shows every evening. They included a comedian, juggler, and the on board troupe. The crew members and staff we interacted with where all helpful and friendly. We explored Key West on our own. It is a very walk-able port. In Havanna, we booked a private six hour excursion. Because we were the only two people in the car, we were able to personalize the tour to include what we wanted to see. The second day we did a free walking food tour. Both excursions were very interesting and allowed us a good insight into the lives of the Cuban people. Ship is a older ship but public areas were well kept. Some of the best service I have had in the past 3 or 4 cruises. Entertainment was excellent and really enjoyed Key West and Cuba. Dining options were great with great late night snacks. Excellent Diamond Club and Dining staff. The older ships has more personality and the staff are more personable. Cuba was one of the best ports that I have visited. It was very clean and I felt really safe even at night. I loved the overnight option but plan to rest up before hand. We really enjoyed our day tour and also our night tour. Embarkation day was the only bad experience we had. Took us longer to check in than normal with very long lines. It does seem that Royal is using more contract workers at the pier than Royal Staff. All in All we had a excellent trip and would definitely visit Cuba again. Read Less

My husband, daughter and I just got off of the Allure on Sunday. We had the best time on this beautiful ship. Everyone from the cabin steward (Norman, room 6280) to our waiters (too many to mention) to the nice people that we met, including a family that lives about 10 mins from us, was wonderful. Our room (ocean view balcony) was very roomy and we had plenty of room to store all of our clothes and "stuff". There were 3 adults in the room, so we thought that would be difficult, but to our surprise, it wasn't at all. The shows were fabulous as well. We saw "Ocean Aria" and the comedy show (twice) as well at the headliner show. We didn't get to Mama Mia though and I'm sorry that we didn't. The pool games were all fun and the staff was energetic and entertaining. We thought the cruise director was very good and fun too. We especially loved him dancing in the "70's show" on the Promenade. All of the food was very good as well. We had my time dining and enjoyed different locations with different waiters every night. The buffet was delicious, hot and diverse too. We enjoyed all of the ports, but Labadee the most. We did the Orient Beach/Maho Beach excursion at St. Maarten and the traffic was a nightmare. We probably wouldn't do that again. We just shopped and walked around a bit (in the drizzle ) in San Juan. Getting on and off of the ship was a breeze too. We did expedited dis-embarking so we could pack our "beauty aids" with us in the morning and it wall went as smooth as clock work. Really the only thing that we didn't like, was having to say good-bye to this fabulous ship, but we will definitely be back. Read Less

We arranged this cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary! We were a group of 9, ages from 3 to 72. Everyone had a fabulous time! The kids programs for ages 3, 6 and 12 were really wonderful. The food was some of best we've had (we've sailed on Norwegian, Princess, Carnival, Disney, and Royal Caribbean). Our whole group ate at Giovanni's to celebrate our anniversary and I would definitely recommend it. The entertainment was amazing and we went to all the shows! We had a balcony cabin and the cabin steward was great. We didn't do any excursions through Royal Caribbean and did our own thing in ports. Our favorite port was St. Maarten. We reserved chairs and umbrellas ahead of time with Nik at Lazy Lizard Beach Bar which was an easy 15-20 minute walk from the dock. The chairs and umbrellas were right on the beach and all set up and waiting for us when we got there. We got 2 chairs, umbrella, use of a locker and restroom, Wifi and bucket of 6 beers or 2 cocktails for $20. Best deal anywhere! Nik and his wife were super nice and helpful and the food and drinks were amazing! Really the only thing I can criticize about the whoe cruise is all the upselling and charges on this ship. Charging for popcorn, really?? Also, the drinks were crazy expensive. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it did sail to St. Thomas. Several days before boarding I found out that they would not sail to St. Thomas as planned. Royal would not allow any refunds or transfers to another ship. They did not even notify us. We found out by trying to book a shore excursion. We called Royal. They would not allow any cancellations or re-book or transfer to another ship. We spoke to the cruise director and captain about this. They just said they were following orders. The strange part about this trip is that we sailed right past St. Thomas on our way to a half of day in San Juan. San Juan is very close to St. Thomas, where we were promised a full day. The rest of the cruise was average. Moma Mia was good. Chops was great. Mainly for 30-40's crowd. I went in mid may to avoid all of the kids. I was wrong. Many kids on board. Had to leave chops and other restaurants because of screaming kids. Asked for a quiet table and each time they sit screaming kids right next to us even after a table change twice. No one listens. This was my first time in a big ship, I wanted to see how do big ships works. Okay, so the space in my cabin was kind of... small? but since I was alone it didn't bother me, it was enough, enough compartments, a medium-sized bathroom and a comfy bed. Enterntaiment was awesome, specially the play Mamma Mia and the Aqua Shows. Food was good, buffets had a grat variety of food and I LOVED the curry, also the breakfast from the WipeOut Cafe was amazing. The central park was really chill, pools (there are 4 pools) weren't crowded and the weather was perfect, everything was so relaxing and that's what I wanted, take a break from the busy, modern and boring world. Cocktails are good! If you are a diamond member I think you have free cocktails during "cocktail hours", haha. There was a show with commedians... so much fun tbh, I would love to be on board again. Just got back from 4-night MOS sailing from FLL to Key West to Havana and back to FLL. Had read a lot of negative reviews about the MOS before going but because the Cuba stop was the reason for the cruise in the first place, they did not dissuade us. Candidly the ship is older and doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the new-mega ships, but truth be told the-mega ships probably couldn't make it into either Key West or Havana. We (three couples) were in separate "oceanview" cabins on Deck 5. The cabins were small, but were more than functional for our purposes. Our cabin attendant, Elizabeth, could not have been better, nicer or more pleasant. She accommodated every request with a smile and responded with a "hi" or a "are you having a good day?" every time we saw her. We chose "my time" dining for 800 p.m. in order to better accommodate our schedules. We linked up the others in our group and had a table for 6 set aside for each night in the Starlight Dining Room The food was pretty good and was presented nicely, We ate there 3 of the 4 nights and even with just that our waiter, Paolo, knew our names and preferences. All other meals we eaten in either the Windjammer or the Windjammer Marketplace, both of which are connected to each other on Deck 11 and serve the same food. The food was served buffet style, but was not lacking for choices and the service was good. We had read complaints about the bar service. We had no problems at all. We all signed up for the beverage package and at one time or another hit every bar on the ship. Some were definitely busy than others, but all moved quickly. Kudos to Angelito in the Schooner Bar which became our go-to bar throughout. By the first night he knew our names and drinks of choice and never seemed too busy to wait on or talk to us. We really weren't on the ship much, so can't say a lot about the entertainment. However, we did check out the comedian/ventriloquist who was very good. Embarkation and disembarkation in FLL was pretty flawless. Since we drive to FLL, we didn't have tight connections to make on either end, and so we arrived at around 200 on embarkation day and were on the ship within about 20 minutes. On disembarkation day, we left the ship around 845 (by which time all groups had been called) and were out of the terminal and headed toward our car by 900. No worries with security or customs on either end. Speaking of customs, there was a slight bottleneck in Havana which is but one reason why I can't imagine a mega-ship going there. But, the process went pretty quickly. In Cuba we did a private tour (which I would highly recommend) that took us to New Havana by classic car and then into Old Havana on foot, before returning us to the ship to clean up and to eat before taking us to the Tropicana show. Our tour guide took us straight to the front of the line after which were promptly escorted inside. Just so you know, the show started at 930 p.m. and ran until about 1130 p.m., though some of the dancers and performed stayed around to dance with the crowd until around midnight. That's about when we left and met up with the same 2 drivers (we had 2 cars) and our tour guide who returned us to the front door of the terminal. It was seamless and I would recommend the tour company, Cuba With Us, to anyone. The only negative that I can think of was the shopping. Key West, of course, had all of the shops that you could want, and some you wouldn't want to go in. Havana was definitely different than many of the ports we've stopped at before. Not much shopping near the ship and not even that much as we were walking and driving around. Perhaps that's just a result of the politics there as even the citizens have limited shopping options. Shipboard shopping was another matter altogether. There were the usual things, t-shirts, souvenirs and jewelry. I made the mistake of falling for the 75% off sale on Invicta watches and bought one on the sea day. The ticket price was $595 which I knew was inflated, but through some internet research after I got home appreciate was more than 5 times what it was selling for on the Invicta website and almost 6 times what it was selling for on Amazon. So, even with 75% off, I still ended up paying more than I could have paid for the same watch had I waited until I got home. Buyer beware! Read Less

My wife and I went with our good buddies to Key West and then to Havana on a four day cruise out of FLL. The ship is old(er) yes, but lots of great character...it's clean...it never felt crowded and the service was outstanding. The pool was a little crowded most of the time and so was the main dining room...otherwise I felt like it was a pretty empty ship...even though it was sold out. The Viking Lounge on top was empty about the whole time...great area to read a book and relax after getting back from the journey. Trivia was super fun. The casino was hopping most times and the dealers were pretty nice. Main dining room food was better than expected...we've gone on three Oceania Cruises so we lowered our expectations. The only suggestion is to get dressing on the side. The appetizers and soups were terrific. Fish of the day was always a good choice as well as the warm cookie and ice cream. The wait-staff was very hard working and remembered our names when we ran into them around the ship. Definitely recommend this cruise, especially for the price and itinerary! Entertainment was okay...comedian very funny. Spa - beware...they will upsell you...wife spent $500 on about $200 worth of treatments because she got sold...has trouble saying no...but she said they were very well done. Read Less

This is my first review ever on a ship. Previously, I have sailed with Carnival, Princess and NCL. We tried Royal because we heard great things about it and it did not disappoint. Obviously, there were some things that could have been improved on but overall, the cruise was great. Here are just some highlights. Pros: Embarkation - when we check in online about 2 weeks before, we were told to show up at 1pm. However, we had to be out of our hotel room at 11am and we didn't want to wait at the hotel, so we just went right to the cruise port.Even thought we had to be there at 1, we got there around 11am and were on the boat by noon. Very very smooth. We read before that Windjammer got really busy at that time and boy there weren't wrong, so we made our way to Wipe Out Cafe towards the back of the boat and had no problem. Staff: For the most part, all the staff we encountered were wonderful! My room attendant was on point with everything and very friendly. My other family members also enjoyed their room attendant. We chose My Time Dining and had reservations every night (more on that later). We loved our waiter and staff the first night so we requested them for the rest of the ship and they were again...wonderful! They knew our drinker order after the 1st night and were very timely with everything. If we needed to get to a show right after dinner, we let them know and they made sure we had plenty of time to eat and then find seats. Kudos to them! The only staff member that I didn't care for was someone at the Guess Service Desk. Royal offers luggage service now where they pick up your luggage the last night of the cruise and you don't see it until you arrive at your home destination. Well, because we were on a cruise, we lost track of time and missed the deadline to bring the form down to Guest Services by 1/2hr. Only a 1/2hr. We when told the worker, she was like Nope, you're too late and turned and walk away. Very very rude. Food: I am not a picky eater so maybe that is why I enjoyed what I ate. The options in the main dining room was great. I could always find something to eat. Wind Jammer is your typically buffet but they provide plenty of options. I preferred breakfast and lunch in the Solarium because it was a lot quieter and relaxing. Not as many options as Wind Jammer but it got the job done. We paid for one special resturant (Giovanni's) and it was fantastic! The food was great as well as the staff. I would go back in a heart bet. Room: Granted I was in a room by myself but there is plenty of room. Not sure I would share it with more than 1 adult though. Room was very clean and tidy. Everything worked great. Balcony was wonderful. Luggage (as I'm sure you are reading everywhere else) is scattered down the hall on Day 1 so you need to find it. Luckily, mine was right outside my door and so were the the rest of my families but I did hear some people mumble and grumble about it.The bathroom is tiny but worked well for my needs. Cons: My Time Dining: We chose My Time Dining and made reservations for most of the nights for 7pm. Now, you would think with reservations you could just go right in and be all set but no, you had to wait in line upwards of 15mins to even tell them that you were there. And then sometimes, you still had to wait to be seated. If we cruise Royal again, we would not chose that option. It was a joke. While the wait staff were fantastic, we didn't appreciate having to wait to be seated even with reservations. Elevators: There were over 6,000 people on board with 12 elevators so of course there would be waiting and sometimes they would be full. But the elevators are just plain wonky! You stand outside waiting to get in and notice that some of them aren't even moving?!?! Why has it been on desk 3 of 5mins while I'm waiting? Simply does not make sense. Ports of Call: We chose this itinerary because of the ports of call. We were suppose to go to St. Kitts, St. Thomas and the Bahamas. A week before our cruise, we got notified that something is wrong with the boat and we are no longer going to St. Thomas but now to San Juan. Been there, done that, had no interest in going back. Okay, fine I get it but still. We were looking forward to going to St. Kitts and the Bahamas still but were disappointed in the shore excursions. On St. Kitts we did a Scenic Railway Tour. Nothing that scenic about looking at broken down cars in people's yards, trash all over the place, etc. It surely didn't feel like the Caribbean. The highlight was St Kitts was that my dad found a Harley Davidson store and was able to buy a shirt. Don't waste your money. In the Bahamas, we didn't an Essential Nassau tour - again don't waste your money. Visiting a "Rum Cake Factory" really means going to a shack on the side of the street and trying a teeny sample of cake - along with the 50 other people that were there. And not sure why we need to drive around Atlantis to look at the buildings? Royal did a good job in selling this excursion. We were just the suckers who signed up for it. I would go back to the Bahamas but do a beach excursion instead as the beaches we drove by were very nice. All in all we had a wonderful family vacation. No vacation is perfect but we were able to relax, drink, eat and disconnect from the real world which is why we went. Also, the entertainment was great. I wanted to go back and see Mamma Mia again but simply didn't have the time. Read Less

I wanted to take my mother on an amazing vacation because she has never been anywhere further than 12-14 hours from home. My oldest daughter also came so this was a 3 generation vacation. The ship was full of anything anyone could want. My daughter enjoyed the shops, purses, clothes. My mother enjoyed the scenery on the ship and absolutely loved the balcony in our room. I enjoyed everything, especially watching my mother enjoy herself. Dining was as expected where the food was concerned as this is my and my daughters 3rd year in a row on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Our waiter Jesus and assistant waiter Jing Jing were amazing, entertaining, prompt, courteous and a joy to have serve us. The Aqua show was amazing. Wonderful performance and skill by all. A must see. Momma Mia was good but extremely long, I would suggest catching it earlier in the day rather than late. The Blue Planet show was another wonderful show, also a must see. Excellent choreography. As far as the service, guest services was helpful as always. Had a little issue with a cake I ordered to be delivered to my mother in the dining room the night of her birthday. It did not show up. I went to Guest Services to have the charge removed, which was done but they also called a manager to speak to us and promised to make it up to us. They kept offering us wine, we do not drink. The following night at dinner the manager asked if we had received the cake in our room, that he had it sent down, we did not. The following night they brought it to our table and serenaded my mother. I was a little disappointed in our meet and mingle. Apparently they took a poll and it was voted that the main thing everyone wanted to win was alcohol, so that is all they had to give away. Again, we do not drink. The last cruise I took, a year ago, had a lot more prizes and a lot more attendees. The saving grace of the meet and mingle was Flavio who hosted the meeting. He was a doll. He was super sweet, energetic and entertaining. It's a shame that someone recently posted that he needed to scale it down and not talk so much. I say, Flavio, don't take too much stake in what a few others say. Let your light shine and always be you, you're a much better you than trying to be what others want you to be, so continue being just the way you are, we love you that way. He was a true joy, not only hosting but getting to know everyone on a personal level as well. I felt he genuinely cared and wanted to get to know you. He felt more like a friend than anything else, enjoyed him immensley. All ports were very quick and efficient. I also very much appreciated the kindness and attention Danel and Ashkyr during the sales on the Promenade showed to my mother. They made her feel so special. Two great young men there. Read Less
