Let me first say the entertainment, stateroom attendant and dining room waiters were great! However........ Don’t forget to pack your patience! We planned this trip for our four teenagers during spring break. We decided to not cancel and move forward despite the coronavirus. Which we probably should had canceled but we decided to give it a shot. Huge disappointment. First disappointed was not being able to upgrade our room despite 900+ canceling. We tried to upgrade all 3 staterooms and were told only one room “maybe” could upgrade and they will contact us. Which they never did! We wanted to stay together with our children and that was not even an option. The rooms were very outdated. Did not have refrigerators as expected. We have a diabetic daughter who requires a fridge for her insulin and it was not in the room as requested. We ended up receiving a car type plug in cooler. Very disappointing. There was no water readily accessible. The closet door was falling off. WiFi was horrible and overpriced. We had to go visit the guest relations desk at least a dozen times. Half the time you are screaming your issue due to the loud music at the centrum. Bad place for the guest relations desk. It was very hard to understand most of the staff but luckily we had a young lady that tried to handle what she could. They allowed charges on our account despite being flagged not too. Guest relations was not worried about customer satisfaction. You could tell they are used to complaints. They did not react. We shared our disappointment but was obvious they did not care. The food was terrible. The only half way descent food was in the main dining but the portions were small and very bland. However, The waiters were very friendly and did a great job accommodating our gluten free daughter. They treated her very good. Her every food needs were met! The buffet was terrible. There were not many options unless you want to pay for it. Alcohol drinks were watered down. 700 dollars for two. And barely any alcohol in the drinks! The only two fun things for the teenagers were both closed the entire trip. The rock wall and the bungee trampoline were closed. There was not even a basketball court. Just a pool for the kids...no slide. Not much at all. I can’t imagine how crowded the pool would had been if the 900 people that cancelled would had showed up. It was packed. Very small pools. Sure wish we would had done our research. This ship is not very kid friendly and is very old with limited food eateries (that are included in price). The entertainment for adults was good. Most staff members were very friendly. We have an Alaskan cruise schedule in July and will be canceling. We only booked this cruise since we had the Alaskan cruise already booked since last year and wanted to stay with one cruise line. We have cruised with Carnival in the past and will travel with them again. Beware…they charged our account the very last day 125.00 for towels which we returned all our towels. They do not give you anything stating how many you borrow and return so you are relying on the attendant to enter the correct information. They did take the charges off but I can only imagine what a mess it would had been to fix this error after the cruise. This was done the last night of the cruise and luckily I noticed early enough to dispute it. Cozumel was very nice and we seemed safe however progreso was very sketchy. The ship has indeed seen her better days and they are all in the past. The boarding staff in New Orleans were rude, uninformed, and totally messed up boarding directions. They treated the passengers like cattle and laughed when you followed their uninformed directions instead of fixing their mistakes. The ship seemed dark, dank, and dirty. Not in the sense of trash everywhere, but things were very dingy. The room was adequate and the steward was fantastic, but in poor repair. Windjammer food was held at unsafe temperatures and up to 6 hours for some foods. I asked about this and was told that some of the items that were to remain hot were held for 6 hours and the cold items as well, even though they were heated and chilled improperly. Meaning that the cold items were not chilled at all and the hot items were held at double temps for 6 hours. I don't know about you, but eating a hamburger that sat out for 6 hours is disgusting. The bar staff were generally very good and the drinks were as strong as you asked for them to be. The main theatre entertainment was pretty bad, save the magician. Overall if it is very and I mean very cheap this cruise will be ok. Read Less

This cruise didn’t meet my expectations. The menu in the dining room was very disappointing. We ate most of our meals in the buffet which was pretty good. Many people on the ship had guaranteed cabins but didn’t get it till the night before and if you were on a b2b you had to change rooms. Very disorganized. Embarkation was the longest of any prior cruise and the long delay to get off at various ports were unacceptable. The crew on board did there best but the corporate office failed on this voyage. We were on a b2b and for 30 days they only had 3 movies which they played over and over again. The floor of the balcony of the cabins couldn’t have been more filthy. They did a very good job for Diamond members for the cocktail hour. Unlimited drinks of all types. Beer, wine and cocktails. I would not recommend RC based on this voyage Read Less

We chose this cruise because I it was kid friendly. We celebrated 60th and 40th birthdays and went with a large group. Cons When contacting customer service before our trip, our group was misinformed many times. Not as baby friendly has we hoped. We brought our 9 month old baby. Couldn’t get a high chair the first night and almost didn’t get one the second night. Had to go on a scavenger hunt just to get a spoon to feed baby. Pretty crowded pool areas and you have to check out towels and wait in a line to return them. So inconvenient. We didn’t upgrade our food package, so unsure if it would be any better, but food was mediocre. Fine dining dinner was not fine dining. More of a buffet that is served to your table. Very crowded in the dining room. Servers could barely get through to pass drinks and dishes. There is a cooler in the room, but no fridge. Standard rooms are dark, dingy and small. Definitely too small for a family of 4 (Parents, baby and toddler). You truly are nickeld and dimed. We were told gratuity was included when we booked our trip, but were charged about $15 a day for each family member, which really adds up. Kids sailed “free”, but were also charged a gratuity and of course tax. Professional photos were $20 per picture. Cost of Packages were outrageous. Nassau could be fun, but you would have to pay for an excursion. Otherwise, it’s not worth getting off of the ship. Might as well enjoy ship amenities, while most everyone else is off of the ship. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and it just didn’t seem special. We had a pretty large group too. My parents balcony door was broken. Pros Service staff was exceptional and truly went out of their way to meet the needs of their guests. Housekeeping also did an amazing job keeping the rooms clean and tidy. Cococay was an amazing time! Kids loved it. Wish we were there longer than a day. Kids club is a nice break from the kids. The taco restaurant was great. Some of the people in our group got a balcony. Much more spacious and bright. Exciting being out on the ocean and was a smooth ride. This was our very first cruise and such a disappointment. I'll start off by warning you this is a detailed review of our experience so far, on Majesty of the seas and we have only been in the ship a couple nights..hoping it turns around. The Royal Caribbean parking and check in process here in New Orleans is a clusterF#(K like no other, we have been on carnival from here and many RC cruises from other ports and none are as badly put together as the one here. Not sure if its any better if you park out in a public parking garage but thinking it maybe better to just do that, be cheaper, and wouldn't require you to walk over railroad tracks out in the open (glad it didnt rain on us and hope there is no rain upon return or we will be wet dogs). We tried to book our cruise about back about 2 months before the cruise date, for the 2nd person 60% off and kids free deal. We were told no more cabins were left to handle 4 people so our only choice was to pay for 2 cabins, got lucky enough to have them next door to each other, but boy are these cabins small and tight, yes these are even smaller than your typical cabins if you have been on any of the Oasis class ships. The ship shows its age, housekeeping and maintenance could be improved dramatically to at least make some of the simple really obvious issues better. Our sink does not drain, we have asked for that to be looked at 2 times and still isn't working right, the shower head in both cabins shoots water out from the hose so giving the kids a shower is a mess! The shower wall had mold on it, floors were not vacuumed in both rooms, the sink leaks from the bottom edge all over the shelf below, looks like its been doing that for several years from the damage its caused. I went to put my hats and stuff on the very top edge of the vanity and it had not been dusted off in months, so asked the room attendant to clean it off who than also found 3 old bars of soap up there as well. Room attendant Craig on deck 4, is who we have...unfortunately he is not happy to be on this ship, mad at the world, or maybe hates people of our ethnicity..regardless he doesnt speak to us, never officially introduced himself to us like they always do, actually had to ask 2 others and him who our attendant was just to find out who would be in our cabins each day, seemed upset about something and making it obvious so today i had to ask if we did something to make him upset or if everything was okay, needless to say that conversation went nowhere, he seemed bothered by us, so we have kindly asked him to not go back into our cabins to avoid any further issues with him...NOT LETTING HIS UGLY ATTITUDE RUIN OUR TRIP!! Our first day of the cruise we went to talk with dining and the first guy said we were all set for 530 dining but my parents were not at the table with us so we needed to go speak with his boss and she would make that happen. We went over to the head waiter Tamara i believe was her name, she said we were not on 530 and asked us who told us so, we showed her so she yelled for him to come over there and pretty much disciplined him right there in front of us, told him he was wrong, did not know how to look at his screen, needs to make sure he looks at the screen better and not to give guests the wrong info. We get it that he made a mistake but the way she treated him in front of us made him probably feel like jumping off the ship would be better and made us feel very uncomfortable as well. Sorrento Pizza and Compasd deli only keep 1 person on duty even when its about to be lunch time and lines are forming before 1130, RC needs to properly staff these areas so that people are not waiting so long for pizza, and staff isn't running like mad men trying to prepare, cook, cut, serve the items...its ridiculous that they do not better organize things for these type of areas for the rush hour times. We did report our issues with our Room Attendant to his supervisor, but the damage is done and we are stuck having to look at his grumpy ugly side eye ooks at us for the rest of the week, it sucks that 1 staff member can ruin the vibe of our trip when they make you feel like there is some sort of personal issue with us when we dont even know him. We have been loyal RC users and go to Emerald status with RC after this trip but unfortunately this is our 2nd time in the last 5 or 6 RC trips that we have had an issue with a room attendant, ironically both times the room attendant was from Jamaica, and as I understand RC is required to hire a certain amount of people from Jamaica as part of their deal to port in Jamaica but the service provided by the folks from Jamaica is not nearly as friendly and professional as you see from the people from China, India, or Mexico...im sure others will experience this same issue as we have, and hopefully RC will give them more training or not force these people into service level duties that require them to be friendly to people. Hoping our trip experience improves over the next few days, I used to love cruising but this hasn't been much of anything for us this time around...was hoping to just relax, not be stressed or worry about dumb sh!t while on vacation. Just to forewarn this is mainly all a negative comment Lol. This ship is the 3rd smallest in the fleet, and built in the 90s. Boarding was not very smooth for us. Royal Caribbean never sent me any emails or a boarding pass or a barcode or anything. Luckily I had downloaded the app so I at least had our room number but that was it. Ive been on one other cruise that was 10 years ago with carnival so I had no idea I was supposed to have a barcode to board the ship. Nowhere/nothing mentioned that. The room was tiny, which is to kind of be expected but it’s definitely smaller than the rooms I’ve had on carnival. We had an exterior room with a little round dirty window, Not to mention we are on our honeymoon and our bed is two twin beds just pushed up next to each other. We paid for the unlimited drink package, it was around $860 for two, but they were running out of stuff. Day 5 they Ran out of pina coladas. An excursion that I booked has been canceled on four separate occasions. The morning of that port, they were offering it again at a different time so I paid for it got off the ship and waited for an hour to find out that they had canceled it again. So that is now five times I have paid for the excursion just for it to be canceled afterwards. We sat and waited and asked multiple staff off the ship about the excursion and no one seemed to know anything. Finally 45 minutes past the time we were supposed to leave we found someone different to ask who then told us it had been canceled. Talking to the shore excursions desk is a nightmare and they are extremely rude and basically say that it’s not their problem and out of their control. Which is odd because its a royal caribbean excursion. There were Kids absolutely everywhere, When booking I was not aware that kids 12 and under sailed for free or that schools were out for Mardi Gras so maybe I can chalk that up to my mistake of not researching enough but I just had no idea it would be like this Almost every couple we have met have agreed that there are way too many kids. the ship has no adults only place, I was hoping there would be at least one adults only hot tub but no such luck, I did look on the map after I downloaded the app and did not see anything that said adults only but I just had my fingers crossed that there would be something. The hot tub capacity limit was five yet there would be literally 15 kids in the hot tub‘s with masks and snorkels on. Even the bars are full of kids which makes no sense to me how are bars allowed to have little kids. The only area that has no kids is the casino but you can smoke in there so that is just one big cloud of smoke. On port days some things on the ship are closed, not very many bars open, so be prepared to wait a while for a drink. At the pool there Nowhere to ever sit, and people reserve chairs with towels at the crack of dawn and there are just chairs sitting there with peoples towels all day long. I had even gotten up early two mornings to try and get chairs and by 8:30 there is still no where to sit. The policy On royal Caribbean is that if the chair is left unattended for 30 minutes or longer with no sign of returning they are supposed to take the belongings and put into lost and found but no one does that, and they do not even know their own policy. there was one day we saw six chairs with towels on them for over three hours my group finally decided to ask about them and everyone said they weren’t sure what to do. The staff renting out the towels told us to just sit there anyways so we did and then we got out at two hours later by the woman who had been reserving the chairs for five hours. Grand Bahama totally sucked. The port is not pretty at all, and the whole area is beat up from the hurricane. Its definitely not a sight to see. This is where our excursion got canceled but it was too late to book anything else so we got in a taxi to go to a nearby beach spent $40 for a very small and trashy beach area, that once you get to you have to pay for everything. At night there’s just not much to do for a couple in their 30s with no kids, there are quite a few bar areas but they are always empty and never music playing. There are a few game shows and things that go on throughout the cruise but they are pretty boring and all you win is a $.10 keychain. On the last day of the Cruise we finally found a hot tub that did not have 15 kids in it so we get in the hot tub to enjoy our last day with drinks and they start playing Disney movies on the screen with loudspeakers at 1 PM. it was so loud we couldnt even talk to our friends in the hot tub with us. Who wants to sit around the pool watching Disney movies at 1 o’clock in the afternoon?! In the casino, we were playing Texas hold em, the table was totally full, everyone having a great game, and at around 2 o’clock they decided to shut the game down completely because they did not have staff to keep the game going. Entertainment on the ship I would call mediocre. There were two comedians, one who we thought was great, the other was decent. There were multiple musical type shows, which we have zero interest in but to each their own. A couple nights theyd have an orchestra playing. And one night had a magician who was okay. Getting off the boat, was a COMPLETE NIGHTMARE!!! We were two hours late getting to the port which was fine because that was out of their control. But you can choose to either carry off your luggage yourself or you could check it in and the staff will take it off. We chose to take our luggage our self because we knew we would get off the boat and get out of there faster. There was absolutely zero organization and no order as far as who got off the boat when. Anyone on the ship who was carrying off their luggage was directed to all go to deck 4, so over half the ship they expected to be all in one tiny area with their luggage fighting to get off basically. Quickly that store got way too full so they started sending people up to higher decks. There are 4 elevators, and stairs. They were literally yelling at people to quickly go up floors, and to carry their luggage up the stairs and had no one there to help. I noticed quite a few elderly people struggling to get their things up the stairs while the staff just sat and watched them, offering zero help. So now everyone was spread out throughout the ship luggage in hand for about an hour and then they announce everyone to come back down to deck for her and they would start releasing everyone so then you are stuck in the exact same situation, everyone trying to get to the same deck at the same time. It was impossible!!! I don’t understand why they would not have each deck exit one floor at a time instead of telling everyone to meet on the same floor... The wifi was decent. I didnt love spending $100 for it, and it wouldnt stay connected for more than a few minutes, but it atleast worked off and on. This was our second cruise, bur first with royal caribbean. We will NEVER take another RC cruise again, and probably won’t ever even take a cruise in general again because this totally ruined my outlook on cruises. If you are in your 20s-30s with no kids, do not go on this ship. Even with all of the kids aside, there really is just not much to do. The pros were.....our server at dinner was phenomenal. His name was Jake and we loved him. Also most of the bartenders were very good and friendly. Coco Cay was great! It was a beautiful day and multiple places to sit without having to pay extra. It’s also nice that your drink package works on that island. We did an excursion snorkeled on our own and then just went to the pool. The downside I would think about Coco Cay is that there are lifeguards and ropes so that you cannot go out too far for or to certain areas which I’m sure is just for your safety but someone who has 100+ times I did not like being limited. The excursion we did was the stingray city and we absolutely loved it. The tour operators were great and we had more than enough time there. On the ship there was a gameshow called quest, that was a lot of fun! But it was only one night. In Key West we did an excursion called sail and snorkel and it was a lot of fun! However online it says 3 hours, but keep in mind its an hour boat ride out there, and an hour in. So its only one hour snorkel time. Also you dont get to drink until youre on the way back. The guys on the boat were awesome and so helpful. It was a good experience and i’d suggest it. Probably not for children though considering you are out in open water, and it can be a little rough. Also we stayed at towneplace suites in metarie the night before, and were allowed to leave our car there for the week for no extra cost. We ubered to and from the cruise at around $25 each time. When we got off the boat to help our Uber out we walked maybe half a mile so he could get to us easier and faster Read Less

We chose this ship do to the many different ports in the Caribbean. The problem is on board this ship. We have never seen so many older people in my life on a cruise. Super boring on ship, except for the theatre shows. We too are around 60 but like other reviewers this was just to old of a crowd for us. Karaoke was lame, the vortex dance club maybe 8 people in there total. Never seen anything like it on any cruise before. The boat is smaller so has very limited activities. All these really old people just take up the pool chairs and read and most don't even get in the water. Really hard to get chairs by pool because RCI dose not enforce the saving of the chairs like their signs say. Read other reviews, this is the oldie but goodies ship. If you like the 50's and 60's music this is your boat. Read Less

Voyager of the seas refurbishment. Johnny rockets & the large spa in the gym had been removed & replaced with suites. Great for RCL but not so great for customers who cannot afford a suite. Pinstripes class & suites now have what was the old diamond room & Diamond & diamond plus members are now removed from using the beautiful glass room upstairs to what I think was a old cigar room next to the Star lounge. It seats about 30 people. We had 400+ Diamond people on our cruise. On past cruises if the ship had a lot of diamond members they would open up the star lounge or use the Viking lounge but instead RCL hired it out for private functions. We were a group of 20 & to get together we were forced to use the cafe promenade to catch up each day. RCL seem to be looking after their bottom line the almighty dollar & not their loyal customers. I agree that they should look after pinnacle class as they have been loyal as diamond class are, but customers who book only once but pay $’s for a suite who are not loyal seem to get the run of the ship. I wasn’t impressed also that RCL have booked out rooms that are for everyone to access limiting everyone to seating & places to enjoy. RCL should not book out public lounges for private functions as we all pay to use the Viking lounge & star lounge. Hopefully this isn’t the start of each refurbish of the fleet. We were all left very disappointed & will avoid the voyager of the seas. Read Less

Go to your nearest Mall. Double the price of coffee, triple the price of beverages, then add sociopathic security guards who enforce confiscatory policies by leveraging safety to take money from you. Examples include the policy that you can't wash your bathing suit, because doing your laundry is unsafe (safety is $35 a bag for wash service), video games involving balance on a fake boogie board that are "unsafe" for my gymnast daughter but safe for her 53 year old dad (so they can sign him up for a wristwatch promo) or confusing embarkation beverage policy which results in having to buy their onboard beverage package ... nope I am not an alcoholic, don't need $500 + in booze sold to my suite mates. The irony of Royal Caribbean's use of "safety" to fleece customers is that Royal Caribbean operates under Bahamian law specifically so it can avoid US safety and labor regulations. As to the rest of the cruise. Like most high end malls and hotels, it has good architecture and design. Like most theme parks the good stuff is crowded and Royal Caribbean seems to attract aggressive customers who will run over your kids for their third helping of dessert, and save all the seats in the auditorium for whatever you want to see. The shows are actually good, even by Disney standards. Why they build tiny theaters on ships with a 6,000 capacity is simply because they want to say they have the feature offered, not that you will get to enjoy it. At it's core, Royal Caribbean is just a bad company. These policies, the cheap food, the repetitive onboard music, the broken coffee machines, the constant $50 and $100 per person because you are in their monopoly hell; it a senior management issue. They are focused on extracting revenue, not providing value for their customers. It is a miserable experience to be their victims for a week. So bad, I may book a flight home out of Cancun and simply get out of this mall. This is our tenth cruise. Can not wait for it to be over. Disney is just so much better (with a smaller capital expense, they simply treat their guests as guests instead of chumps to be targeted for corporate theft) Read Less

Well the excitement didnt last long. This was my children's first cruise and I feel that the independence of the seas was a let down. The food was poor quality. Unless I went to the the formal dining and I traded good food for poor quality of cleanliness. Lipstick on my water glass, napkins that had lipstick on them and my husband's silverware had food still left on it when it was delivered. The staff from the dinning hall saved this unpleasant experience. THANK YOU FRANCISCO AND STEPHAN table 744 for being absolute gentleman to your guests. The constant alcohol cups left all over jacuzzis and night was disgusting. I would recommend checking your charges on your room bill. I was charged 50.00 for towles that I handed to concierge desk and they didnt deduct charges until I brought my itemized receipt back and corrected the staff. Then I put my luggage out @ 11:00pm the previous night of departure so we could have an easier time getting off the boat, only to find that the staff broke the wheel on my luggage bag. Read Less

Well, I suppose you get what you pay for...See my review about the cabin size, however the rest of the cruise was a bit of a let down. The entertainment on board was to say the least poor apart from a comedian on the second night. The production shows would have bee great for my dad in 1970 but not for today's family audience and as for the magician things went from bad to worse when he got a nine year old girl up from the audience to act as his stooge. Positives.. The Argentinian music and dancing group, they saved the best till last. The bar prices on board are the same for all RCI ships( expensive) however the bartenders on this vessel must be under strict orders to dispense the bare minimum of alcohol into any cocktails, you've herd of bang for your buck...This was more a whimper for your buck! Out excursion to Amiga island at the port of Labadee, was value for money, but this was the only ship excursion we took, striking out on our own for the rest of the ports of call. The crew were the highlight of the cruise most of them in a happy and positive mood. All in all, if you want to recreate a cruise from the1980's this may be for you... However we will never book a cruise on this ship again, that being said, we're looking forward to our RCI transatlantic in April Read Less

Ship-Voyager is a good size ship, but with the renovations, they have reduced public space for more cabins. Too many people squeezed into smaller areas. Even though it was recently refurbished, it is showing its age. Very noisy in certain areas like the promenade, Schooners, Windjammer, and the library. Cabin(inside) was normal, except access to the bed was difficult on the TV side due to the bed touching the dresser. had to step over edge of bed. Dangerous at night if you have to get up. We had them separate the beds so it was open in the middle. Dinning- Windjammer too crowded. Limited seating. Food average, but good variety most days.Main dining- food was a good to very good most nights.We had MY time for 7:00, but we had to line up on Deck 3. They opened at 6:45 to MY Time, and frequently, early seating diners at 5:00 were still inside. Very slow and confusing. Even though we had the same time every night, we were put in different sections with different waiters most e very night. We did have the same waiter the last 4 nights. We purchased a 3 nite Specialty Diner Pkg. The Italian restaurant was good and the first trip to Chops was good. Out in 1 1/2 hrs. 2nd visit was a disaster. Worst dining experience EVER! Was there 2 1/2 hrs. and still hadn't got our deserts. 20-30 minutes between courses. Service very slow. After salad, waited 30 min. for 9oz filet. It was very mushy and had no taste whatsoever. After several bites, I informed the server that I could not eat it. She apologized and said they were having so problems that night. Offered another steak, but I declined. There was not a Manager around to complain too that night, but I did speak to an Officer about it the next day. I have no desire to return to Chops. On the last night of the cruise, the Maitre D gavemy wife and I a glass of champagne, without an explanation. Later I asked him why, and he said it was Because of my experience in Chops. Weird. Entertainment was good most of the time, but they scheduled some of the best on ship entertainers off on the same evenings, like in the Pub and the Schooner. Weird! Service was good to very good. Great room steward. Ports- this was the cruise that had to change about 3 Ports of call due to the Virus. It was very disappointing and many guests were upset. We understood, however and made the most of it. We did not receive any compensation, but did get a refund for RC shore excursions that were cancelled. Debarkation was a real Cluster. Ship was held up for clearance until after 8:00. We were told to go to the Tavern for a 7:30 departure on a bus transfer to airport. Speaker in the Tavern was not working and we did not hear any announcements to leave. Once we could leave, everyone was trying to get off, regardless of their time. We missed our transfer, but were put on a later one. We got to the gate at the airport as they were loading the plane for the flight to L.A. One last comment- RC needs to seriously consider a non smoking policy. IT's time! The smoking areas on 11 were very large. The entire pool area smelled of smoke. hard to avoid. many children around. They had it located between the ice cream and pool exchange areas, with a portable bar in the middle. Really? Read Less

This was our 5th cruise, 4 with Carnival (absolutely no issues at all), but our first with Royal Caribbean, huge mistake on our part. I deeply regret that we switched lines! The multiple issues experienced & the extremely poor customer service onboard, as well as the follow up after the sailing, is beyond my comprehension. We conveyed our issues while onboard as well as a follow up upon our return. Our list is lengthy, but if you are researching cruises to take, I feel it’s fair for you to know what you can expect from them on & off the ship. If you’re an average middle class household like us, vacations are few & far between. And takes planning time financially. I had no intentions of sharing a public an honest & transparent review of our multiple concerns. As this is something I have never done. But after their response of our experiences onboard, I feel it’s necessary. I don’t want what happened to us to happen to anyone else. *Note: This is in no particular order. 1.) Smell. The odor of our stateroom bathroom was absolutely horrid. To the point that we had to allow the bathroom “air-out” before we could even enter it. EVERY TIME. EVERY SINGLE TIME. The ENTIRE trip. It smelled like backed up sewage stemming directly from the toilet. It was absolutely disgusting. 2.) Cabin Cleanliness. The cleanliness of our cabin was lacking to say the very least. From the moment of our initial walk-in, it looked as though fresh towels & bedding were the only things replaced/attended to prior to us entering the room. The shower? The condition of the shower was disgustingly gross & probably a future health hazard. There was & I’m confident that there still is mold growing in it. Yes. Mold growing in the shower. It just shows the complete lack of effort given to cleaning, prepping & sanitizing before the new passengers board the ship. Another instance, While unpacking our luggage & putting our things up, the shelves in the closet, which we were attempting to put our clothes on had an (extremely obvious) dirty pair of men’s underwear & a single filthy sock...Just sitting on a shelf in the middle, that in no way could have been missed/overlooked. Gross. There was a dried bloody finger streak directly on the closet door opening, proving again that it the room was not properly wiped down, or sanitized thoroughly. A handful of times we had to send plates, silverware & glasses back because of stuck on food & lipstick marks that remained from previous users. That’s just not okay. 3.) Food. The level of quality & lack of options was less than satisfying. The first night in the main dining room my plate had to be sent back because of the extremely visible amount of fat on my meat. The replacement wasn’t much better. So Instead I got to watch my husband & son eat while I watched & got to eat bread. This instance was repeated the third night. But it was my son who experienced it. The options were limited for someone who does not eat seafood. I don’t eat seafood. I get that it’s a cruise. But I highly doubt I’m the only person that does not eat seafood. The food is supposed to be a big part of a vacation! So it was a big disappointment. A few times my husband did ask for two of the same items, he was treated as if the waitstaff are trained to refrain from allowing that. Seemingly frustrated & hesitant for even have asking for such. Because of the lack of food options & the less than stellar quality of food, I was resorted to either pizza or Johnny Rockets. Which the pizza was more times than not completely overcooked/burnt & Johnny Rockets being additional charges. The “sprinkles” ice cream situation was another. There is literally ONE single place to get froyo! It was constantly “out”, closed for “cleaning” or “under maintenance”. And to close it at 9!? There is no one constantly manning the machines. What is the need of closing that early? So they have an outdoor night time movie with late showtimes & you can’t enjoy a desert while you are watching it!? It makes absolutely zero sense. 4.) EVERYTHING closes entirely too early. Both the stores & snack/eateries. We were so shocked to realize that if you don’t access those early, you won’t be getting anything. We wanted chocolate one night around 11ish & couldn’t get any because the only store that carries it, was closed. Late night sweets/snacks are actually a common thing. So not being able to get something so simple while on an actual vacation due to the lack of access was frustrating. 5.) Luggage. My son & husbands luggage made it to the room fairly early the day of embarkation. Which was great. However by 8:30 pm my luggage was still no where to be found. Which was strange since all of our stuff was handed over together. Finally, we asked our steward about it, so he went searching. Came back around nine & told me that he found it & I needed to go to Security on level one because my bag was pulled for a second screening. Again, confusing because my husband & sons made it to the room just fine. So confusingly, we all went to find out why & retrieve it. We got there, asked why, they said it was “pulled for alcohol being detected”. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever. First of all, there wasn’t even a liquid in my bag! NONE. Second of all, we purchased the unlimited drink package weeks prior. What sense would it be for me to smuggle alcohol onboard when I already have access to “unlimited” amounts onboard!? Again, no sense. What really pissed me off was the fact that I reached out to them the week PRIOR from sailing to see if I could bring a few gifts, in my luggage, WRAPPED, for my sons birthday (the whole actual reason for the trip). I was told absolutely. No problem. Wrap away. The gifts were a surprise & this situation completely ruined it for us. Security opened my bag right in front of my son who was with us. The surprise was no longer a surprise & I couldn’t have been more disappointed it was ruined. BTW- the gifts were books, dvd & clothes. NO LIQUID. In the bag. NONE. We were cleared, dropped the luggage at our room & headed for guest services. We were told that standard is “not acceptable“, apologized & were promised it would be looked into as to why the bag was unnecessarily pulled & they would get back to us to with answers. That never happened. 6.) I’m baffled as to why so many of the bars on board were regularly closed. The third day, we literally had to go to 4 separate bars until we found one open. Closed during reasonable “drinking hours”. We had to chase bars down. It became increasingly exhausting as that became the trend. The 5th day we attempted to get a drink at the Schooner bar. Just my husband & I sat. We ordered. We each ordered ONE drink a piece (first drinks of the day for us) & my husband attempted to order a shot with his drink. So one drink each. With one additional shot. Only to be refused because “you can’t order a shot that close to swiping your seapass cards”. Which were ALL ordered TOGETHER. He was shut down immediately upon ordering. He hadn’t even swiped our cards at that time!!! That’s asinine. Guess what!? That wasn’t an isolated event either. NOPE! It was only allowed ONE time. The ENTIRE duration of the cruise. Just one bartender allowed this. After many attempts at multiple bars. What’s the point of having a super expensive “perk”, if you can’t use the thing reasonably. If my account is checked, It will be obvious we weren’t sloppy drunks by any means. It was actually insulting. The coffee wasn’t any better. While I was getting ready for the day, my husband went down to get us our morning coffee. Wanting 2 coffee’s. He had HIS pass & took mine with him to use for our order. Our names match, we share a cabin, we both have the drink package due to the policy, it could easily be verified at the register. Nope. He was refused service. For TWO coffee’s. Not even alcohol! Completely mind-blowing, unreasonable & extremely irritating. Also! I was taken aback when I ordered a Spicy Bloody Mary at the schooner bar. The bar wasn’t very busy, 5-6ish people, with 2 bartenders. While making my drink, the bartender realized that they didn’t have enough of both Tabasco & Worcestershire sauce (important parts of this specific beverage I think). Once realizing they would need more they quickly, half a’sd looked for replacements behind the bar. They didn’t have any back there. So what did they proceed to do about it!? One staffer within ear shot of me turns to the other & literally says “oh well, she won’t notice!” Those EXACT words! Finishes up their version of my spicy Bloody Mary, or lack there of & puts it on a napkin in front of me as if nothing was wrong. What kind of customer service is that!? All they had to do was either tell me the situation (which would’ve been perfectly fine with me), or either call or go yourself to get the replacements. But to treat me like I’m an idiot. And completely unnecessary. 7.) For God knows why, on the 4th, at dinner, in the main dining room, we were approached at the table with my son being serenaded “Happy Birthday”. His birthday was the 8th. So it completely threw us off & embarrased my kid because it wasn’t even his birthday. It was awkward, uncomfortable & easily could have been verified & avoided. 8.) The activities were extremely lacking in substance & quality. The majority of them were “know the answer, write it down, switch with someone” it just wasn’t enjoyable. And highlighters as prizes was a joke (most however were just pats on the back for winning/knowing). My kid turned 13 on this trip. He is extremely well rounded, beyond his years & mature enough to attend things that we deem appropriate for him (he also looks like 17 year old!) When he attempted to play “finish the lyric” in the star lounge, he was again embarrassed because in front of EVERYONE in the room, he was told he could not play due to not being 18. Even though the age limit was never mentioned PRIOR to asking for volunteers. There was ABSOLUTELY no reason to A.) call him out in front of a packed room & B.) not allowing it to be a parents approval/discretion situation. It was a complete elementary game. No reason for such tight restrictions. Not one single cuss word or inappropriate talk/actions in any way was said or done for the duration of it. To also charge for arcade use was disappointing as well. ESPECIALLY, the high costs per game & not getting anything in return. Just an “I won” moment to have with yourself. No tickets won, no point redemptions nothing. That’s just crazy! Oh! And Flow Rider!? That was maddening! It’s not a secret that the lines tend to get lengthy for that. To NOT be made aware that it REQUIRES separate waivers (that you have to go out of your way for) that need to be signed PRIOR to waiting in line only to find out when it’s your turn, you can’t access it without a consent liability waiver signed!? My kid was pissed & defeated. As anyone would be. Not one person said a word to us about that. Not one. That info should be included in the arrival day compass that is made as a focal point that is awaiting on the bed upon the travelers arrival. Ping pong balls should also be monitored & replaced as needed. Having just 2 balls by the end of the trip to chase between two separate tables isn’t easy. Nor enjoyable. 9.) The beds were extremely uncomfortable. We feel like we hardly got any true rest whatsoever. ALL 3 of us woke up every day exhausted & sore. Every day. We still are. And Finally the biggest & most overall disappointing issue.... 10.) Customer Service or lack their of. We hardly saw any (if at all, really) an employee who looked like they truly enjoyed their job. Most didn’t welcome you with a smile, didn’t go out of their way & we were ignored countless times. They advertise dancing by the waitstaff including Johnny Rockets & main dining. Not once did that happen. Twice, just 2 times, in our 7 day cruise did we have a waiter/waitress approach us and Inquire if we wanted/needed a beverage from the bar. Both of those times were on the upper pool deck, floor 11. We never even saw one in the lounges during scheduled activities! Not a single one. We were either forced to do without or interrupt the people around you because you have to go order a drink at the bar yourself. That’s insanity!!! The majority of the ones we did actually see (not interact with, simply by their choice) preferred to hang out along the railings, people watch & twirl their trays like pizza dough. I was truly shocked that so many seemed to simply not give 2 craps that the reason they even have a job there is because of the customers. If it weren’t for the customers, they wouldn’t have one!!! We were also disappointed that literally ONE Evening, just ONE single evening, we went to our cabin after our “turn down” service & had an animal towel. Aren’t those typically supposed to be done at EVERY turn down!? It’s something we always enjoyed & looked forward to on our carnival cruises because each night was a different animal. I thought towel animals are kinda just a universal cruise schtick in general. They do have an activity class on the subject, but it definitely isn’t practiced for customers. It may seem a tad petty, but the little details are important too! This was our first family vacation for the three of us (husband, son & myself) in a few years after losing a son. We were so very excited & so looking forward to going on one. It was beyond desperately needed. Plus my other son was turning 13! It is a milestone bday. We just wanted to make new memories. Just not of this kind. Not what we anticipated. Not what we expected. It was bad. It was just so very bad. We are now just left feeling like we need a vacation from our vacation. And that’s just incredibly sad. I truly hope that this ridiculously long feedback is acknowledged, thoroughly looked into & new implementations are created for some extremely necessary changes that really need to be addressed. If not, reviews such as mine will eventually become your new norm. It’s just absolutely impossible for it not to. This was the generic response from CS: “Hi, Brittani. Thanks for your patience while I was speaking with the ship. We're very sorry for the disappointment you experience onboard and we had the opportunity to bring all of your concerns to the respective manager's attention. It is never our intention to negatively impact your cruise and I apologize that this was your experience. Thank you for your candid feedback as this shows us where we need to focus our attention.” We have no desire to cruise on this line again. And won’t hesitate to make others aware of the experiences endured & severe lack of customer service they provide. Read Less

Liberty of the Seas is an older ship and the cabins definitely show it, from the outdated TV' to the tile work in the bathrooms. Our cabin was 9535, I seleced that cabin because of its location: close the the stairs and elevators and a hop skip and jump to the lido deck pool, hot tubs and food. The location was perfect. The cabin cleanliness and room service was just awful. The carpet in out cabin looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed for weeks, one of the cabinets in our cabin had what appeared to be blood stains on it as well as the carpet. The bathroom smelled of urine and the outlets were disgusting. I ordered room service and my coffee pot was delivered to my stateroom sticky with what appeared to be dried milk or cream on the outside and the coffee cups were dirty and the fruit was bruised as if it was from a previous sailing. The cabin was cleaned as I requested but it should NEVER have been given to a guest in that condition. Nothing Royal about it. The wait staff was A. Number one . The DJ in the night club sucked! Went for a seven day Caribbean cruise. Casino was right in the middle of ship, column went up five floors. Stench from smoke in casino filled at least 70% of ship. Couldn't walk anywhere without getting nausea. First day of trip led you to Punta Cana which was locked down for the Sunday. ONly one store open. So what do you do ? Go to the mall which is half empty and only sells products residents want. There were a couple of decent restaurants there. Nothing else to do for the day. Why start you trip in a dead town ? Royal Caribbean stock is up from excess profits they make. Everything has an 18% gratuity attached, even if no service rendered. And they expected you to tip as well, all the time. Find services less than sister Celebrity line. Any excursions you got outside the ship, you were on your own. A minute late and they would sail without you. Cabin service was fine, but you received no afternoon treats. Try to reach your attendant and no one there. Entertainment was fine, but auditorium is larger in Celebrity. Staff was friendly, but this was a family ship and you could hear all the young children. Much prefer Celebrity line, will not travel again on RC. Read Less

To mention little of the potential causes of hygiene issues onboard, we were advised by medical staff to be quarantined to our rooms after consulting them following our children's vomiting and diarrhoea starting from our second full day aboard. While in-room movies were comped, it wasn't exactly our idea to board a cruise ship only to watch movies in the cabin. We had to miss out on the shows and specialty dining that had been pre-booked and paid for. Room service was only free if ordered from their "Gastrointestinal Diet" menu of broth, gruel, and steamed vegetables, and otherwise chargeable even for adults who had to stay in to care for the sick children. It gave us the feeling that the cruise line was simply trying to keep a lid on potential bugs from spreading, at least until the cruise was over we were off the ship and no longer their problem. IMO they're not doing a great job at that by relying on little more than the affected passengers' sense of public courtesy (to outweigh their desire to enjoy what they paid for) to remain in their cabins. While good value if executed consistently with the concept, our experience with 'The Key' priority service is inconsistent - both embarkation and disembarkation were disrupted either by being directed to normal queues or having our group split halfway despite identifying ourselves as Keyholders. It was also difficult to determine how to access other 'The Key' services. The Royal Caribbean app, while novel, is unreliable as the personal schedule is unable to keep up with the various meals and activities that were signed up for and/or cancelled along the way. Birthday arrangements following dinner arranged through dining reception immediately after boarding as a surprise for particular members of our group fell through as the waiting staff had no idea, despite assurances from reception at the beginning not to worry. The birthday cake that was arranged at the last minute had no names on it and arrived well after dessert was over and after much effort on my part to stall my family from leaving. An embarrassing affair all in all. As for specialty dining Jamie Oliver's Italian and Chops Grille were passable, while Wonderland, despite being one of the pricier venues, was a lot more style than substance. Have been on many cruises before, large and small, but my first and last time on Royal Caribbean. Avoid. Read Less

Hallways and cabins smell very bad. The smell of foul odors and dirty carpet. Filthy carpet. Elevators falling apart. Extremely outdated cabins. They made our beds and gave us new towels but never changed our sheets. We knew this because there was a stain on one of the pillow covers and we were suspicious so we said nothing and of course that pillowcase stayed on the whole trip. Food availability was very limited causing long lines at either the cafe or pizza joint. Food in the main dinner dining was average. Even employees on the boat were saying the ship was in rough shape. I would not recommend this ship until it is revamped and brought in for an upgrade and dry dock. They state that they are dry docking it in 2021. That is way too long out. I feel bad for anybody booked on this ship now and until it is dry-docked. I don't know if it is Royal just this ship but they will nickel and dime you. The customer relations line on the ship was always full of people. I have never seen that on the other cruises I have been on in the past. Will not go on this ship again until it is dry-docked. Read Less

If it is too cold to go in the pool on deck, the only things for your children to do is the rock wall (during it's open hours) and Ocean adventure (their understaffed kid's care). The shows were so, so... Richard Harris the comedian, was good. Although, we never made it to our final destination to trade off performers and entertainers, so that probably contributed. We booked 2 rooms (at the same time), but were assigned different tables on different floors for sit down dining! Then they tried to accommodate by moving us to 8pm dining... won't work with kids. The 2 times we did attend sit down dining we had bad service. The first night the server was sick, so we got fill in service from the other waiters on the floor. We were the last people to get our food over an hour after we were sat down. The 2nd time we got better service, but the lobster we ordered was TERRIBLE. Completely overcooked and chewy. Windjammer and Compass Deli was the saving grace for food for us. Granted the food quality was barely above gold corral buffet food in my opinion. But it was fast and always there, which was great with kids. We NEVER made it to Nassau, never picked up the last entertainers. Instead, their compromise was to take us BACK to Key West for a quick 3-4 hour day trip by the time we got through customs. We're from Florida, so this was really disappointing to not even go the Bahamas, whole reason we booked the cruise. There is not much of anything to do on Key west besides, eat, trolley and the butterfly garden. Which we did the trolley the 1st time... so we gave the butterfly garden a try, oh yeah, the closed 45 min after we got there! That's because we couldn't get off the ship until after 2pm going through customs. It was a 7 days cruise and NOT enough to do on the ship when the weather is so, so and you have so many sail days. This is my 3rd cruise and all 3 have been with Royal Caribbean. Unfortunately this one left a bad mark and the way things were handled more or less ruined my vacation for me and left me questioning if I’ll ever cruise with Royal again. To start things off embarkation was delayed first reportedly because of fog. Royal Caribbean contacted us and let us know there would be another update in 2 hours. The fog was already clearing so during that time we dropped off our luggage at the port and decided to get something to eat close by. After grabbing a meal we walked around the town of Galveston a little bit and the second notification arrived- still no update on when the ship would be able to dock so we could board; another update would come in two more hours. This was odd because the fog had completely lifted. We exhausted everything that we could do with our two year old toddler close to the port pretty quickly but we just kept walking and hoping the next update would bring good news- unfortunately it didn’t. This time the story changed: the coast guard was performing a search and rescue with no further information on when we could board. We returned to port to recover some medication in my luggage. I had brought some with me but not enough for a long delay. Unfortunately our luggage was too packed in and not well organized within the port. Eventually the lack of access would lead to a medical event on board for which I was unable to get help for when the ship returned to Galveston. Luckily it wasn’t life threatening but it basically left me unable to leave the room for two days onboard. After a couple more updates we finally had a timeline but unfortunately once we boarded we sat in the port and ended up leaving 24 hours after our scheduled departure time. This would force us to miss one of our ports. After the ship got rolling we got to our cabin which was okay. Of course small and nothing special but clean and other than losing hot water for about 6 hours during our trip we had no problems and we received truly fantastic service from the gentleman taking care of us. Because we were traveling with a two year old we spent a lot of time dining in the Windjammer which was better than I remembered from my other experiences. Unfortunately this ship does not have a lot of specialty dining options so other than the windjammer and main dining room there wasn’t a whole lot else to try out. Overall I thought the food was pretty good and our service was very good. All of our service staff really made our meals with our toddler easy and stress free. This ship had very limited activities on board compared to both the Freedom and Mariner and is really starting to show its age. I really enjoyed the Main Street type feel on those ships’ Royal Promenade. The main lounging area on the Enchantment was still pretty nice but it seemed like a lot of little things were spread throughout the ship. This ship lacked an ice rink and some of the fun stuff to do on the other ships I’ve been on and those were sorely missed but it did have a splash pad and a decent sized shallow section in the pool that my son thoroughly enjoyed. Overall I felt the stage actors and other entertainers were pretty good on this ship and looked forward to all the shows that were offered. As I mentioned we missed one of our ports but we had a good time in Cozumel even though the water was a little too choppy for swimming. The number of shore excursions offered was pretty small and lacked the Xcarat day experience that I was hoping for. The service throughout impressed me sincerely. The staff was obviously dedicated to making our stay enjoyable and tried dearly to make up for the unfortunate delays and cancellations. Unfortunately Royal Caribbean did little to match their efforts and I was left thinking we wasted a lot of money and precious vacation time on a ship that quite frankly is showing it’s age. Read Less

Food was a D at Izumi rooms are acceptable with decent closet space Drinks of course are very overpriced Excursions in Haiti were not available due to weather with a very unprepared private island that you do not feel safe in that is small with little other activities Jamaica was better but the 1 hour 20 minute average to and from each excursion is to much for the day wasting 3 hours time Cozumel is very good with an average excursion travel 15 minutes with a nice friendly shopping area close by for gift drinks,food .Feeling very safe at all times the experience with customs arriving back home was deplorable at best the absolute rudest people i have every seen and I travel outside the country and average of 10 times per year 8 officers showed up at our door at 7 am with a dog asked us to dress and exit the room for a search nothing to me is wrong with this ... EXCEPT FOR THE ATTITUDE of the racial animal that was questioning my fiance about here citizenship when she has been here so many years with a valid passport and as well as a passport card. The one star goes to the staff - very pleasant , and always try to address all issues , another star does to the entertainers. Restaurants- we mostly dined in the buffet and main restaurant- food is like a 3 star hotel buffet. Is a cruise to Vietnam and there is no Vietnamese food . Even fast food items like hamburgers and grilled Panini are Poorly made . We also tried the paid teppanyaki restaurant which is another mistake ! Quality of food is not up to standard . Gym and Pool- it is a big ship but the pool and gym are both small and congested . logistics - even with reservations the waiting time can be 20 minutes ; and tables were assigned after the staff checked us in Which takes extra time . We are also concerned about security , Sea passes were left outside the room instead of giving to us in person during check in. Read Less

Extra charges were put onto accounts such as pool towel usage $100 & alcoholic beverages, supposedly purchased by a non drinker -unable to keep fresh milk Or juices in cabin fridge, fridge cleaned daily & contents thrown out by, I am assuming room staff -a lot of “extras” on board. And extras are expensive e.g. $12 U.S to hire an in-cabin movie. -we had an unfortunate issue on board which I am in the process of going through the correct channels of complaints. RC need to look at and amend the code of conduct policy it seems a young intoxicated male who causes an incident by verbal aggression and harassment towards women gets off with a guarantee from his parents he will behave for the remainder of the cruise. We chose the cruise for a family vacation. The cruise staff was good, attentive. The headliners were good; great stand up comedy. But, the ship is extremely dated, dirty and in visible need of repairs. We were told that the ship will be remodeled. So RC is probably very aware of the deplorable condition of the ship and just doesn’t care. Lately and in my experience with RC is that it’s all about the company’s winnings and not about the traveler’s experience. The whole experience felt like a tourist trap. The food was mediocre and cold. It seemed that the only way to get warm food was by paying extra at the specialty restaurants. So much for an all inclusive. The shore excursions, we found them lacking and over priced. At one island we did the $169 per person tour, sponsored by RC, for $95 per couple. I truly would not travel with RC again. It is extremely saddening to plan a family vacation for a whole year and be left wondering why you spent so much money; wasted money. Read Less

We sailed out of Cape Liberty, NJ on Dec. 28th, 2019, at 3:00 PM for an eight day cruise. We returned on Jan. 5th, 2020 to the same port at 6:00 AM. We had three ports of call; Cape, Nassau, Bahamas and Royals own Island "Perfect Day". We are long time fans of this Cruise Line. This was are 8th cruise in the last 15 years. Our last on the line was just three years ago. Historically, we would tell everyone who would listen what a great deal vacationing with Royal Caribbean was. We even carry their VISA awards card. So we have a history to compare this cruise to. First; they have changed their business model and not for the good. They now are pushing the drink packages on you. We discussed this option before leaving and not being big drinkers decided against it. We arrived the day of departure and I ordered a double vodka, with club. The cost for this drink was $19.00, which included an auto applied 18% gratuity. In the past the drinks on board had been priced pretty much the same as any on shore restaurant. So we buy the drink package for the week. The cost of the drink packages amounted to $531.00 per person. Or, as the sell the package, just $66.38 per day. Given that your really on the ship only seven days and eight nights this figure jumps to $75.86 per day. Again invoice states your gratuities for bar, restaurant, etc. are included in your fare, they add 18% to cover your bar bill in your drink package... The only shore excursion was to Cape Canaveral unfortunately it was booked full. We took the bus to Coco Beach. It was a rather windy day and not really a beach day. The food on this trip was not up to the past experiences. We found the portions to be small and the meal was just OK. Perfect Day Island is well done; they charge 12 service fee on any purchases. Our son really enjoyed the water park. We ate at both Chops Steak House and The Italian restaurants.On past cruises Royal gave you a credit for the dining room meal that you were passing on for the different dining experience. A credit is no longer being given. The price of the two restaurants was about what you would pay for an up scale city outing. We thought both restaurants were good but not great. As experienced travellers and having been on multiple cruises, we were very much looking forward to our Ovation of the Seas cruise out of Sydney (departed Dec 26, 2019), around New Zealand. Without doubt, it was the worst experience of cruising we’ve had. Cruising has always included a wow factor of excellent service, with staff who want to see you have a great time … that did not apply on Ovation of the Seas. The ship’s facilities just do not manage the number of passengers. You can stand in a pool, but you couldn’t swim, it’s just too crowded. Not sure who thought an adult pool 80cm deep was a great idea? Waiting 10 minutes for an elevator is normal. Waiting for the next elevator, because this one is full, is also normal. Food is lukewarm .... you just don’t ever get a hot meal. Long waits for restaurant bookings are common .... the ship just cannot manage the capacity of 5000 passengers. Bumper-cars looked like fun, but an hour wait for a ride was the norm, and that was replicated over and over on the cruise activities. With the exception of Vlad, in the Wonderland speciality dining, there were very few wow factor experiences with service. Rosemarie in Jamie’s Italian was excellent too. The staff were generally pleasant, but there was also a pervasive miserableness in the staff, that we’ve never seen on cruise ships. The structural problem of too many passengers shows in the staff culture. The staff appear to have all worked out that no matter what they do, it’s never going to a quality experience. For the number of passengers, the ship’s facilities are woefully inadequate. It’s clearly destroyed staff morale. Kaitlyn, a souvenir shop attendant epitomised it – no greeting, just an unsolicited comment “Only 29 sea days and I get to go home”. Chops Grille, another speciality restaurant has zero ambience, with the doors left open to the karaoke bar, and they resist closing the glass door. If you like paying for fine dining in a karaoke bar, it’d be excellent. Side dishes arrived after every person on our table had finished mains. Per chance, we ate at Chops three times, and on the final occasion, had Marko look after us, and he was excellent, which was totally different to the prior occasions. The cruise ship itself is at a premium price point, and everything on the ship is expensive and in US dollars, with a set 18% gratuity. A glass of Australian wine, for a cruise out of Australia, is $14US, plus 18%, so nearly $17, and that’s more than a bottle in any bottle shop. If you are paying top dollar, but getting a wow factor experience with food and service, then it’s justified, but this is c-grade experience at a-grade prices. We’ve been on Royal Caribbean ships before (and belong to their Crown and Anchor membership program) but nothing would induce us to book another trip on Ovation of the Seas. Read Less
