This was my 1st cruise and probably last. Entertainment and lectures uninspiring. Woman who gave lecture of forensics looks like just fell out of bed. 1 night had singer in Schooner bar competing with Spectrum big band because lack of theatre space as shows were practising. Food from Winjammer plentiful, repetative but constantly cold. Breakfast line for cooked eggs 6 deep every day. Drink prices not too bad. All cost on board charged by American dollars. I noticed when in port a lot of people racing for free wi-fi, why do you need to charge $23.00 per day for this service. NOW for the CASINO WHAT A FOUL SMELLING AREA THIS IS WITH PEOPLE SMOKING IN THE SO CALLED SMOKING AREA!! Really Royal Carribean where is you non smoking policy in the Casino. Seems you have limited areas outside for smokers but in the Casino it is allowed. We can see where this ship is heading. Went to so called Gym bit of a joke, I asked why it is so small and was told Chinese people did not exercise much. The restaurants where the same old same old very limited and why can they not advertise prices. One good thing was Silk Road performance 3/4 hour so limited. Beatles show according to my partner fantastic but they bolted at the next prot. Jamacian band near pool same music different day. I am sorry Royal Carribean but this ship was definately built for a certain market and we are not part of that market and to assume people would be impressed by the size of this floating casino if a bit of a joke. You asked you got. A no so happy 1st time cruiser. Read Less

I hardly know where to start as I found the whole experience very disappointing. It seems one third of the ship is given over to the silver/gold suites and areas, one third to Seaplex (which I'll tell you about) and the last third was for everyone else to squeeze into. There were 3 x swimming pools (2 of which were indoors!) and each had a capacity limit of 26 persons!!! Obviously the limits were exceeded constantly, people cramming into the outdoor one to cool down making it an unpleasant experience which I avoided. There were hundreds and hundreds of sunbeds, all roped together without any gap in between them meaning you had to physically launch yourself onto them, ridiculous. There was little shade available on the pool decks and it was unbearable to sit in the heat; I did not go on holiday to spend time in an indoor pool. The running/walking track was also on the main pool deck, (without any shade) and it was impossible to do any real exercise as it was the main thoroughfare. There was large children's water/play area on the pool deck which was greatly underused as, again, there was no shaded area. Seaplex had some great novelty rides but to give a huge area over to bumper/dodgem cars when there is not even a space for yoga etc. is ludicrous. The casino is also huge, apparently for the Eastern guests - smoking was also allowed inside which I found shocking. The choice of food was wide but of poor quality - without going into huge detail the meat and fish were mainly over-cooked and generally speaking most food was simply bland and often inedible. I purchased the Deluxe drinks package at approx £600 and they ran out of Sauvignon Blanc and quite a few other wines on day 9 of our 14 night cruise. On a positive note the cabins were very spacious and the beds/pillows were particularly comfortable. The decor and artwork around the ship is simply stunning. The entertainment was mixed, some good shows and some really poor. The lectures were uninspiring, the most exciting classes available were origami or napkin folding?? Really! One decent adult bar for an evening with the same pianist playing dire old fashioned tunes, really boring. From talking to other guests, I understand that this was not a typical Royal Caribbean experience - I would not recommend Spectrum of the Seas. Read Less

We enjoyed the places we visited on the cruise but not the ship - food was not great, very poor maintenance with rust everywhere, things broken and missing including furniture and chairs in lounges and public areas, and the office staff and management uncaring and not obliging. It lacked the lounges and bars and the forward located crow’s nest outlook of the smaller Holland America boats. Alcohol was very expensive and only Diamond status past passengers could access the happy hour prices – a very discriminatory restriction on the bulk of the 3,000 passengers on board. The starboard side of many decks (promenade, pool and bistro and the upper most exercise deck) plus the casino were approved for smoking and you were constantly getting fumigated. When you were at the office and the nearby lounge tobacco smoke flowed into these areas and the internal atrium space which had most of the limited lounges and the shops. Our Viator tour of Jerusalem and the Dead Sea was delayed 2 hours as RCL was so disorganized that they refused to let off non RCL tours for 2 hours and 4 of the 14 people on our tour could not get off until passengers marched down to the ship’s office and loudly demanded to get off. We had got off at 7:45 AM and just walked through with the ship’s tours and insisted as we had an 8:30 tour booked! RCL blamed the Israeli Immigration people for not having sufficient staff on duty but this was not the case as the Immigration hall had roughly 250 passengers in it and we went through in 20 minutes and there was only a trickle of passengers walking through Immigration from 8:45 till 9:45 AM when RCL finally let the non ship tours passengers pour off the ship. The result for us and many others tours was that we hit the peak period of the day for visits to the Christian and Jewish quarters of Jerusalem with massive crowds on day tours from huge number of bus tours and other tourists. The head waiter in our area of the restaurant looking after dozens of tables was really excellent however Florina could not despite her continued best efforts do anything with the product she was provided by the kitchen – she took all 6 of us on a complementary tour one day of the kitchens and she and our 2 wait staff looked after us very well just a pity about the food quality and the rest of the ship. We picked this so we could go to Petra. The other stops were useless--Athens on Easter Sunday? Everythihjng was closed. Israel on Good Friday? Everything was closed. They should have planned this better. Onboard, lectures and trivia were great. Dining room food was fine, but service was lacking. Windjammer was typical. What they call "mousse" is some kind of whipped jello. Pavlovas were fantastic. Staff gave good attention to the diners. I loved that the specialty restaurants were open for lunch, but this was not advertised well. We were the only ones in Chops and Giovanni's Table for lunch, and it was good! Half the cost of dinner, and the lasagna is to die for! They had a large smoking area by the pool, but there were not enough ashtrays. Lounge chairs by the pool were losing their straps. I loved that there were coffee stations, and the Park Cafe provided delicious breakfast sandwiches, fruit, parfaits, and bagels. Read Less

An extremely friendly ship, the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Other than that we were very disappointed in the ship. The interior cabin was so small it was unbelievable, the furniture was old, chipped and not the cleanest. The bathroom appeared to have had an upgrade but what I couldn't believe is that the ship does not provide toiletries and the single bar of soap had to do for the shower and basin. Loo paper was rough ! Storage was ok. We had two litre bottles of water left in the room of which we drank. We had a charge of $12 on the bill under the heading 'mini bar'. We didn't have a mini bar when I questioned it - it was because we had drank the water. The food was ok,not the standard we have had on other ships. The entertainment was appalling - there was very little of it and what was on offer was very poor quality. The programme didn't run to enable people of both the earlier and later dining times could both see everything. A Frank Sinatra tribute was on from 9-10, second seating was 8.30, no chance to see, just one example and the same sort of thing happened for the earlier dining time. The decks were sooooooo tight with sun beds , no small tables to put drinks on. It was impossible to get on your own sunbed from the side, you had to crawl up from the bottom as the beds were so tightly packed. I WILL NOT CRUISE AGAIN WITH ROYAL CARIBBEAN even it is the offer of the year. Read Less

My wife and I have been cruising since 1992 so we have a wide experience. I would probably put this in the lower end of ships we have been on. First the good: the staff was very friendly and eager to help. The restaurant food was quite good and a good variety. The not so good. First there is the tipping. As I'm from the British Isles we usually tip depending on what we want to give. If we're told what to tip then it's actually a cost and not a tip. You have to pay 18% on all drinks which are expensive enough to begin with as the pound is not doing so well against the dollar. In fact you have to pay 18% on everything you buy. A friend of mine got a massage at over $100 and had to pay 18% of this on top. Plus there's the tip that's taken out every day unless you go to the desk and ask for it to be removed. You used to be able to do this over the cabin phone but now it must be done in person. I suppose they want you to feel to embarrassed to do this in person. I usually don't mind doing paying this but on this ship I did for a very minor reason. But it really annoyed me. We flew from Dublin with Emirates and this company will only let you print out boarding passes two days before the flight. Going of course was no problem. But coming back we would be on the ship, and we weren't going to pay sea Wifi prices. Our travel agent told us the ship purser should do this. I know you can print them at the airport, but my wife and I are not that computer savvy and we prefer to have everything we need in a folder before we travel. Well, two days before our flight home I approached the desk and asked if they could print them for us. You'd have thought I'd asked for him to sail the ship to my home from his reaction. He looked at me with complete disdain. ''We don't offer this service,'' I was told in no uncertain terms. Not even a hint of an apology. ''You can buy our internet package.'' At $17/day this wasn't going to happen. I'd been with other cruise lines where requests like this were not a problem. At the rate I was paying out on tips this should not have been a problem. Our shore excursions were paid for before we left and were very well handled. I would also point out that the entertainment left something to be desired. One of the activities was a 'belly flop' around the pool. The passengers provided further entertainment when there was a ''Mr and Mrs'' contest which embarrassed the people taking part due to its sexual innuendo. Some of it was overtly sexual, like a cheap seaside entertainment. Any cost that could have been cut was done. The toilet paper was about the thinnest you could get. No toiletries. Water in the room which you had to pay for. If you're going to a particular location I would recommend you look for another carrier. Read Less

Embarkation turned into a disorganised chaos when the gangway started moving. The cabin was a good size but why no mini fridge or bathroom requisites. We knew from experience that the water in the cabin would cost more than a pint of beer in a shoreside pub so we declined it. Drinks generally were very expensive and the addition of an 18% service charge is a rip off. Inside this ship was very clean but omg outside this was the dirtiest cruise ship we have ever been on. We never saw a deck attendant for the whole seven days. Puddles were never cleared. There was sand on deck after a rainstorm and this was just left where it fell, as was the fall of soot from the funnel which contaminated the after decks and the passengers on one sunny afternoon. The sunbeds were filthy. We doubt they had ever been cleaned with the grime ground in to the plastic. Excursion staff failed to deliver tickets booked for trips and this was only resolved by a frantic dash to the tour desk shortly before the tour was due to depart. Not a word of explanation or apology was forthcoming. The food was generally good and the service excellent with one exception - I am still waiting for my breakfast porridge!!! The timing for entertainments made attendance at several of the shows inconsistent with fixed time dining. Other cruise lines seem not to have this problem. Curates egg (good in parts) sums this up. We were fortunate to share a table with experienced Royal Caribbean cruisers who agreed with us about this ship, however they assured us that this was not the usual Royal Caribbean standard. It seems that the Royal Caribbean watchword is "that'll be extra". Read Less

Chose this cruise for Dubai stay, time of year for weather and because friends rate cruising. First impressions of ship not good, dingy and full, cabin okay no toiletries, pillows stained and Grubby, advised we would be able to be upgraded but told no. Bingo and Belly Flopping contest smacked of Butlins 30yrs ago not what was expected. Sun beds slatted and uncomfortable, pool music loud. Plastic plates in self service restaurant awful and not what you would expect, food also poor in my opinion and generally cold ughh!!!. In main dining food good but how many times does my name need to be said throughout meal and why do you always get asked if food okay when your mouth full? To long in Muscat, trips long and over priced, shorter and later trips would be good. Variety in theatre okay caterd for most tastes and lounge music good on the whole. To sum up not an experience I shall be repeating and will rate as one of my worst holidays. Read Less

We decided to stay the first night in Dubai prior to boarding the cruise due to landing in Dubai at 0730 and only being allowed onto the ship after 1230. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity on previous occasions and found them to be second to none. This cruise was very disappointing. The ship is clean but tired. The minute you arrive at the port terminal its a 'hard sell'. Nothing comes free with Royal Caribbean! The photographers are hounding you for photographs every time to get on/off the ship. Each night at dinner we were asked to pose for photographs, even though you were eating your meal. Water in the cabin is charged. The drinks packages come at a hefty price. £300 each will enable you to beer/wines/spirits/cocktails. They tell you that after your 5th drink you will be "Quids In",. What they don't tell you is that the wine isnt the best quality and if you want that, its extra! If you decided on the package, both of you have to take it, not just one. Of course this is to stop one person ordering drinks for two. If you want to dine in any other restaurant than the dinning room, its extra. We sat on a table with 4 other passengers who have all cruised in excess of 40 times. This awarded them the Diamond membership. They all complained that the standards of Royal Caribbean have deteriorated over the last 12 months. The menu in the dinning room was on the main good but very limited. On two occasions our party had to request different meals because of problems with the food. The entertainment on board on the whole is carried out by the crew. Dancing with the crew, Mr & Mrs in the theatre, Guess the song, all very Butlins. The 7 day cruise started in Dubai, Kasab, Muscat for 2 nights, at sea, Abu Dhabi then return to Dubai. There is very little to do in Kasab or Muscat. The city tour of Muscat was $68 each and the highlights were a small market and the Mosque. Abu Dhabi and Dubai continue to be the highlights. Just Returned from a 3 night Dubai stay and a 7 night cruise vision of the seas, paid £1198 each, Atlantis palm hotel stay superb, transfers very good and embarking the ship very good DINNING area and waiters i thought were good and professional, i thought the food was good not as much choice as some ships ENTERTAINMENT i thought this was very poor, there was a dance floor and music every night in the main centre of the ship, this was good, nice seating and sociable area, and the group was good, in the THEATRE we see a 60s group these were good and the last day an entertainer, but apart from that the shows were terrible, we see a hypnotist show was ok but after speaking to someone the show he said he was never hypnotised just went along with show, without the casino we would have been very bored unless you can sit there and read a book. POOL AND SUN BATHING i though was good plenty of sun loungers and clean towels, plenty of areas in the shade or the sun pool and Jacuzzi was clean GENERAL STAFF in dinning room bars etc i think they do a superb job in making you holiday pleasant and always want to help and 99% are always very polite. THE CAPTAIN was superb, very informative about cruise, mixed with the passengers would always stop and talk even preformed a couple of songs with his crew, he really made passengers feel welcome and you got that feeling he really wanted you to have a good cruise. BIGEST PROBLEM WITH ROYAL CARIBBEAN ALL they want is your MONEY, charges for Excursions and Drink Packages are VERY expensive, The casino charge you a FEE to change money to spend on their ship, chanced £100 got $108 back and some small change, and to change back the wanted $135 to get my £100 back, Price for drinks and water is expensive, You make a COMPLAINT just fobbed off with same old story ok we will look into this NEVER NOTHING DONE, we complained to office on customer service desk and even took her email address and sent email as well STILL NO REPLY. THERE ARE PLENTY of other CRUISE COMPANIES out there with lovely ships, and prices a lot cheaper than RC and a lot better value for money. RC will be last on my list when booking my next cruise. This cruise was part of a package whch seemed to good to be true at the price, We travelled as a group of 4 who are very experienced cruisers. The embarkation ran very smoothly and efficient, but we were some of the first to get on board. FOOD Whilst we were waiting for our luggage to arrive to our cabins we decided to go to the main restaurant to book our ANY TIME DINING as we had prepaid our gratuities to enable us to dine whenever we wanted. The receptionist advised us that the times we were looking for were not available due to all these times were apparently prebooked on line, we explained that we had prepaid our gratuities to be able to dine any time, she replied that the prepaid gratuities were her wages. No manager was available until the evening. We spoke to the manager that night who agreed that we should have priority for sittings but none were available and advised us to go to reception so that a refund could be arranged which we did but the refund took 25 days to arrive. The food at the restaurant was so dissapointing with reconstituted meat (ie. Chicken & Steak), the presentation was very poor and not very appetising and tasteless. LIVE SHOWS. There was only 3 glitsy shows during the week which was very disappointing. DRINKS PACKAGE We were advised by Royal Caribbean to take a drinks package as there was only tea & coffee available at breakfast and that all drinks (including water) would have to paid for, we concluded that it would be wise to have the basic non alcoholic package. When we got on board the ship there was plenty of free tea, coffee, fruit juices and water readily available to everyone. This ship was a huge dissapointment after hearing that Royal Caribbean was a great line. To begin with, you have to ask for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel..they are not automatically put in your cabin. When they run out, you have to ask for replacements. The food was terrible in the main dining room at dinner. In the buffet, there was more choice but still not first class food. The desserts were appetizing and delicious...the main choices were often not well prepared. I lived on the hamburgers which were consistently good. Some of the staff were downright rude. However, there were some delightful crew, I.e. Kamal the cabin steward, Charleen in the buffet, and the young man from Croatia in the dessert area of the buffet. After having travelled with Holland America, Celebrity and Norwegian, this ship did not compare. No more Royal Caribbean for me.. I will go back to those with better food and where all crew are pleasant. Read Less

We have just returned from cruise and this was the worst we have ever experienced. We do appreciate the price we paid but there was so many disappointing aspects to this cruise. We booked an outside cabin on to find that our cabin had 2extremely small port holes. We had to have the lights on whenever we were in cabin. Our first shock was when we left port the whole cabin shook and the vibration was horrendous. This happened every time we entered and left port and it lasted for ages. We complained and was told that they were aware of the problem and that the vibration on decks 2 and 3 but quote "it's old ship and is being sold. They could not offer an alternative cabin as ship is full. The food was poor and this is obviously down to the price of the cruise. They are cutting corners in quality and the cuts of meat were cheap. On one meal is stated that it was a chicken breast but when it turned up it was a small slice of chicken and bore resemblance to the menu. To make matters worse they had a separate menu on the table for lobster fillet steak and chateau breone at a charge of 40 to 45 usd. On the one sea Day you had to be up before 7.00am to stand any chance of getting a sun bed. There was not one spare inch of deck that you could walk on. I know this is a negative review but we to be honest. Read Less

There were so many reasons - the overall experience was appalling. We are experienced cruisers and have never had such poor food in the dining room - poor quality meat and no taste, lack of choice and variety: one evening the head waiter explained that the meat was locally sourced and NOT good quality - the chicken & beef was tough, he said! We've had better quality food on a Cruise & Maritime ship. The waiting staff in the dining room were too much ' in your face', being over friendly. Formal nights were laughable - we brought evening attire, as suggested, but felt over dressed - the choice of clothing in the dining room left much to be desired. Perhaps it is time to advertise this to prospective customers that RCI have a free and easy dress code more suited to NCL perhaps. There was insufficient information and the information we received was inaccurate, we were invited to a captain's bridge party but the invitation should not have been delivered to our stateroom This led to us losing precious time that could have been better utilised. Drinks are very expensive and the 18% service charge insufferable, especially when most of the time we had to go to the bars ourselves. Can RCI explain why you charge $5.44 + 18% for a bottle of water? Outrageous!! Our dining time of 6 pm was far too early and we couldn't change it or our cabin which was very near a lift and noisy. We had Chinese passengers above us who were very loud, smoked on the balcony and ash came onto our balcony at breakfast; they also threw nut shells overboard when we were at sea and some landed on our balcony. We reported this but got no affirmation that anything had been done. We ordered breakfast one morning but it did not arrive on time and we had to ring up to remind them - it came late without the full order. This was a real inconvenience as we had to leave the ship early to go on an excursion. On the last morning before leaving, the Windjammer was full and we were unable to get a full breakfast - got a pastry from Cafe Latte but had to pay for coffees. Overall we were extremely disappointed and are unlikely to travel with RCI again. Read Less

To be quite honest, we choose this cruise on price, as we were actually in the travel agents paying the final payment for our imminent caribbean cruise with msc and it seemed too good to be real or true! Really, were it not for the msc cruise being that weekend, i might have researched royal caribbean international (rci) out and not gone at all. Otherwise, i simply forgot, after our return. Beware, they might show a low price on the initial cruise head-liner adds, the expense in the cruise will far outweigh any other cruise we have tried. The flight was also a massive incentive to book this experience, being with emirates on a new a380/800. Plenty of leg room etc; The cruise was, or seemed such a bargain, we managed to persuade my brother and sister in law to join us. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD EXPERIENCE TO INTRODUCE THEM TO CRUISING The flight was pleasurable, in as much as any 8 hour flight can be, the in-flight catering was some of the best we have experienced, the wine for cheap economy, was quaffable and i had 3 small bottles to sample!! Now dave and pauline, have never sailed, cruised or been away from the normal med hospitality and basic hotels, (benidorm, majorca etc) so as we booked with 3 months until the cruise, hence we asked for us to roomed / cabined close together. Rci did the opposite. Dave was up the bow on deck 3, we were down in the bilges, right at the back on deck 2 and one deck above the propellers! The noise was unbearable. The area of the cruise, the united arab emirates (uae) was new to me, with the concern for isis and islamic fundamentalism, being a priority, we were assured oman and the other emirates were exceptionally safe, as so it proved to be true. You will not believe how safe you feel ashore. Going ashore, was one of rci's better routines, it is organised well. Once ashore you are mobbed with taxi drivers and excursion flogger's! We took the local taxi and if his english was poor, the lad was very polite, and tried his best. we saw all the best views, visited the best places and came away as much as £200 for the 4 of us, over the exorbitant prices displayed on board. One place you must visit is the grand mosque. one of the top 10 mosques in the world. a place of lavish marble, gold, green oriental jade, persian carpets of a luxury, the likes we will never be able to afford or put feet on! This place was an exceptional place to visit. The guides were informative, with a genuine smile and english play-back recorders to assist in the questions you naturally ask about the place. You must not miss that in abu dabi. You can also put on your list of must do's, the dowh sailings in khasha, not sure about its spelling, sorry! But the trip of 3 hours at roughly £25 pp, was a most enjoyable trip, of (sailing, no not really sailing, but motoring) up the arabian gulf inlets, with several pods of small dolphins and beautiful scenery to admire and warm 29*c waters to snorkel and swim in, though only one young man was brave enough, amoungst us near pensioners went in. The are was safe, the drinks ashore were expensive, on a pavement cafe, we had 3 coffee's, 1 tea, for £14! Quick back to the ship for lunch and a glass of wine. The all-inclusive drinks package!! Dont do it, unless you are an alcoholic, intent to have your fill at all costs. It works out at very near £425 per person!! That is £850 per couple!! This is a rip off, unless, and i have enquired, the £850 was a mistake and it should be £225 per couple, but will not hold my breath on that little gem. Buy your drinks, by the bottle at evening meal, the staff will keep the rest for tomorrow, don't worry. In the day, drink by the glass and you won't be ripped off. the msc drinks package was worth every penny and great value. I have had to come back to add a little bit of information about the entertainment. ok on the msc cruise the entertainment was many times what we endured on the vision of the seas. Out of step dancers, bad choreography, amateurish and poor overall, would be the best i can describe it as. The cruise director was so cheesy!! and so insincere. Tips are paid for in advance of sailing at £80 per person yes pp!! The room staff have to be given extra, and so do the waiters who try their best to see you ok. The ship can best be described as dated. Read Less

My wife and I are 30 and from the U.S., and took a 7-day "arabian" gulf (read: persian gulf) cruise for two reasons: First, we had an expiring RC credit that we had to use, and second, because the itinerary was awesome. We knew going into this that the Vision was an old, smaller ship, but we figured we would use the ship solely as a vehicle for lodging, food and transportation to take us around a part of the world where most Americans don't venture. Ultimately, I wish we had just let the credit expire, and booked our own hotels, transportation and meals between the UAE and Oman. The ship is so old and cramped, the food is so bad, and the beds so uncomfortable that it just isn't worth it, now matter how cheap the cruise fare is. RC figures out a way to screw everything up. Here are some examples: Say all you want to do is relax by the pool on a sea day. You wake up early and reserve chairs. But no matter, because the crew will allow people to take chairs from other parts of the boat and plop them down on top of you. Then, a god awful singer employed by RC who sounds like a dying cat will screech in your ear over the loud speaker all afternoon until you beg for mercy. To ease the pain, you order a drink, only to get a $14 bill for a watered down vodka and anything. Take note that the dining room food is garbage, and tiny portions at that. Either buy a specialty dining package for all nights to get a serviceable dinner, or just eat the slop from the troth (buffet), which is much better than the dining room. Also, the ship's crew provides absolutely no warning of when they will insist on keeping your passport and giving it back - so you are essentially kept prisoner on the boat until the crew decides they will give you your passport back and allow you off the boat. This especially sucks considering the boat leaves these great ports of call in the middle of the afternoon, so if you miss it, you're absolutely hosed. I highly recommend visiting the "arabian gulf" ports of call - just not through a RC cruise. The itinerary gives this trip 2 stars, everything else, zero. Read Less

We chose this cruise to see this part of the world but while the ports were worth a visit the organised trips with RC were grossly over priced !!!!! Vision of the Sea is tired but the main crib is with the greed of RC like other reviews i found the amount of times we had to say no to photographs is out of order. After getting to our room i went for a shower only to find that there was no shower gel or shampoo supplied we found out later you had to ask the steward for them.(very bad show RC) The other gripe i have is with the now 18% added to each drink ordered, this added to the 13$ per person per day and the amount of hard sell throughout the ship including 3$ plus for a bottle of water supplied in room takes the gloss from the holiday. I have just returned from a 7 day cruise out of Dubai on RCCL's Vision of the Seas. She is an older ship that carries 2,500 people. A size and age that I usually love. Sadly, Vision was rather tired. Despite the best attempts of the crew to keep her clean it never felt quite like they had succeeded. The food was a really mixed bag. At times it was excellent and other it was horrible. I ate breakfast at the Park Cafe in the Solarium which was fine. As I eat fruit, yogurt and granola washed down with black coffee I would have been shocked had it not been OK. Lunch was at the Windjammer - all except our sea day there was no other option. I found the buffet sadly lacking - it was two islands with four queues, each serving the same thing. The bread was pre-cut and consistently stale. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the sandwich and fast food section as a pescetarian they weren't particularly interesting. I had a soda package and found the bar staff seemed to begrudge me my diet coke. Dinner in the dining room with My Time Dining was a much better experience. I ate alone some nights and with a friend others. I had the same table each night and Walter (my Peruvian waiter) and Isse (the Kenyan assistant waiter) couldn't do enough. They were attentive, friendly and really honest about what was what on the menu. Most of the food was ok. The fish on some nights ran a bit dry but the rest was quite good. I can't eat refined sugar so the sugar free deserts are really important to me as I have a real sweet tooth. They were excellent except for the sugar free ice cream which was grainy and tasteless. The entertainment on board was the worst that I have ever encountered. With the exception of the concert by the Zoots - a 60s cover band who were very good the rest of dreadful to say the least. The resident troupe were dreadful. We walked out after the second song during their 70's review. The two excursions that I booked through RCCL in Muscat were fantastic. It is indeed a great city to visit and one that I want to go back to . My biggest disappointment was that on the final day of the cruise, we were docked in Dubai for the final day before disembarkation the following morning, it seemed like the ship's crew had given up. The schedule was half the size that it had been every other day of the cruise. There was only some music in the centrum that night and no show. It was as if it was a 6 day cruise that the passengers had decided to extend into 7 days. All in all - the route was good, the rest mediocre. Read Less

We decided to try Royal Caribbean Arabian Gulf cruise because the weather in the area would be warm but not to hot at this time of year. The embarkation was not too bad, we arrived in Dubai about 7.30 after an overnight flight from London and had to wait till 11.00 to embark. the luggage arrived in our cabin about 6 PM. The ship is ideal size and still in good condition after the 2013 refit. Our balcony cabin (aka stateroom) was fine although the shower area is very tight, fortunately my wife and I are thin. Everything after that was all downhill. The Windjammer buffet restaurant is awful, the selection and quality of food on offer was terrible and very bland. Because the Aquarius restaurant was closed most lunch times everybody had to use the buffet. If you were lucky to find an empty table, loud tanoy messages encouraged you to leave as soon as you had finished eating as there were insufficient tables to accommodate the guests. The food in the Aquarius restaurant in the evening was not much better apart from a couple of nights. The theatre is very nice but the ships dance and music group were second rate compared to some we have seen. However Julian Smith the soprano sax player was very good. The general experience was one of the HARD SELL all the time. We purchased the "surf and stream" internet package but when I complained that we could not download videos I was told the service would not work in the Gulf location !!. Our cabin attendant was great but some of the other crew (mainly Ukrainians who had only just arrived) were a bit lost for a few days. We went on a couple of shore excursions but felt they were very expensive for what was provided. Would we use Royal Caribbean again :- DEFINITELY NOT. Read Less

New ship high expectations very disappointing cabin set out was good but no basic amenities supplied flat screen tv with basic repeat movies, movie channel available at a cost not enough activities available very boring when at sea for 7 days. Shore excursions where a complete shamble with no organization left at the peer in the heat no cover or water supplied or available (Oman). Food on ship was excellent except when coming to the end of the cruise they did not restock with fresh items shops where high end market no basic sundries shop at all. Entertainment had some good performers but trying to get a seat for a show was very difficult. Playing card with family out side 270 and others doing the same at 9pm crew came turned lights off and walked away very rude... I have sailed a number of ships before 2 prior with royal Caribbean would sale on there smaller ships again but never with ovation again Read Less

having cruised with rc before we were excited about boarding ovation, good job the itinary was good the ship was the worst we have been on the staff didn't know what they were doing, the pool was mainly coverd, not much entertainment, food was always the same & cold, never heard so many people complain about a ship, going back on celebrity, you have to book to go into the 270 lounge, bumping cars & the north star (which was cancelled 3 times but no one tells you) this ship is made for the Chinese & NOT the british the standards on this ship have dropped, we wont be doing rc again as we felt are loyaty was not rewarded, the ship itself is badly designed ,we had a few days of storms which made the 14th deck flooded also not a good ship if you smoke only 3 areas you can go 1 was actually the casino but expect that to change when it gets full of Chinese, we also had 2 passengers under cabin arrest which ive never seen before all in all not a good ship but an amazing itinary Read Less

We were really looking forward to cruising on a brand new ship with Royal Caribben. How disappointed we were! The ship is huge, cabins really nice but hardly any hanging space, no toiletries, had to ask the steward for some and got them on the third day. We have cruised many times with different cruise lines first thing I check is we have our life jackets in the cabin (just in case) not on this ship!! You went to the muster station only to be told in case an emergency occurs you go to your muster station and get issued with a life jacket!! OMG with 6000+ passengers and then crew on top it would be chaos, they probably don't have them in your cabins as there isn't space. We were looking forward to the entertainment, but only managed to see two that didn't need booking, as by the third day everything was booked up NO AVAILABILITY was all that came up on the tablets around the ship. We paid for entertainment but like all of passengers weren't able to see any. The shops were all very expensive, Cartier, Regalia, Swarovski, Omega, Rolex, Michael Kors etc. THere was not a shop that sold toiletries and incidentals, only a pathetic excuse of a table hidden in the back of the Esplanade selling sweets, and a few bits. Food in the dining rooms was average no presentation at all. Speciality restaraunts ranged from $30 to $40 per person. Plenty of sun beds, good pool bars, and all the decor is lovely. However never again Ovation just a rip off Read Less

For anyone travelling on a cruise ship for the first time I'm sure they will be suitably impressed and the ship is very well presented and of course great German engineering. For me the ship is too big with too many passengers - travelling up and down the crowded elevators seemed like I was in a commercial building going to work - and it's an all stops tour !!! We were constantly inundated with someone pushing folded up religious notes into our door on a daily basis ? - an apology from RCCL - the Internet VOOM was also taking a vacation for most of the two weeks but that's Internet at Sea. The Royal IQ app was ridiculous,we tried without any success to utilise this WOW experience, it never worked -it was up and down and it's not linked to the stateroom TV and trying to change any dining reservations was always a fail!! With the exception of Chopps Grille I found the food to be somewhat mediocre and the service whilst pleasant and mostly friendly always seemed a little fractured and rushed - the tables for two are too closely located to the next table and after the first night of feeling I was travelling in the middle seat of a low cost carrier with three other people I told the staff that I did not want these tables and the request seemed have been put into my profile. We had purchased the PremiumBeverage Package and it's minor but having a refrigerator full of Evian I felt the cruise line was just "gouging " by charging additionally for this, it's just not necessary !! All in all the cruise was ok we will not travel again with RCCL as their ships are too big and the WOW experience is just good advertising and is not evident in my opinion but this is just my opinion - travel and make up your own mind Read Less

I've cruised with RCL for 25 years. This ship is almost as old. It's time to invest in a new "Vision size ships" for exotic ports, rather than the mega ships. Loyal cruisers need better. The 4th deck smelled like 15 frat guys "barfed". They blamed it on a coke syrup leak and only Coca Cola could fix it. I was on this ship for a straight month and nothing was ever done about it. Every night in the Centrum, all of the events and the computer area is there also. Just stunk. How many "west end" singers can you entertain us with? Is a movie now the expectation for nightly entertainment? We listen to 3 singer and dancer shows. Do we need another night show from an employee? Five straight days at sea with no movies in your room, poor to no signal, nothing. What happened to CCTV and 3 different movies repeated a day for the 24 hour period? If you take out the 50 RCL things to do in the Daily Compass you have 3 or 4 things to do. The problem is RCL doesn't know its' audience anymore. The average age on most exotic type cruises like this is 70 plus. I didn't see any of them climbing the wall or doing the family ring toss. People are paying up to 10k to 15k now for these cruises. That doesn't include air, tours, hotels, etc. Lose the profit margins and spend a few more bucks on keeping people entertained. The Crown and Anchor benefits are becoming non existent. Whoever came up with the 2-straight 24 hour internet days versus 90 minutes use throughout the cruise should reassess. Terrible. The food was average. A lot of waiters were just promoted and didn't know the menus. For the shore excursions you had Mosques closed by the time we got in port. Doing the Suez Canal at night? No back-up plan for wind in Santorini. Coming in to Istanbul at 200pm and on a Sunday when things are closed and Mosques have prayer. It's time to go back to the focus groups. We had over 700 back to back cruisers on this cruise and we are all talking about the same things. Is that the right direction for RCL? I have 4 more cruises booked with RCL. As they say on ESPN, "Common Man". Read Less

This cruise left a lot to be desired. This ship has not aged well nor has the refurbishment been a success. There was old carpet on the floors, there were strange smells throughout the ship, and more than one passenger had plumbing problems. It is time for a complete overhaul or the junk heap. My room was on the second floor and I could hear the rattles and coughing of what I guess were the engines. The Captain was an outgoing and engaging man, the fool was excellent, and my room steward was wonderful. But my carpet was old and it was hard to open the closet door if you wanted to go in the bathroom. One day my faucet spewed some brown stuff and would not stop until I called guest services. After that I was afraid to rinse my mouth from that faucet. I had come to this ship from the Quantum and this was a drastic change but that does not excuse RCL's commitment to excellence. I was totally disappointed. Read Less
