For our eleventh cruise with R.C.C.L. we decided to explore the Canary Isles, including ports in Spain and Portugal .We flew Air Canada Kelowna to Vancouver B.C. then direct to Heathrow U.K. (albeit a night flight). By previously arranging for a limousine from the Airport to Southampton to our surprise the flight was on time and our driver was at the departure gate holding up our name card, who ...

I had previously posted that as a Celebrity loyalist I would be trying out Royal Caribbean for only the second time in my cruising experience (20 cruises) by spending the half-term school holidays on the Independence of the Seas. I had asked for luck with this venture and quite a few, very nice posters, assured me that I would be fine. They were, to a certain extent, right but my husband and I ...

Fascinating ports in a not so spectacular ship

We joined this Canary Island cruise because of the interesting ports. We booked through a local travel agency and also booked a pre-cruise hotel night in Malaga. PRE CRUISE HOTEL RCCL got us a room at the Hotel AC Malaga Palacio. We took a taxi from the Malaga airport to the hotel for 20 euros. We were greeted at the reception by a helpful young man who spoke good English and we were informed ...

My husband and I have just spent 10 nights on the Independence of the Seas sailing from Southampton. When we arrived in Southamptn it was raining, we handed our cases to a porter who put the cases on a soaking wet trolley. There was a canvas on the trolley but was not over the top. When our cases eventually arrived at our cabin some time later the cases were wet and opening the cases some of our ...

We are two travellers in our early 50's. We have been on 13 cruises in the last 10 years and have four more booked - one with Celebrity (Europe), one with RCI (New England) and two with Azamara (Antarctica in Jan and St Pete's next June). We went on the INDY as we wanted a no-fly holiday and a bit of luxury so we were prepared to pay top whack for a Grand Suite. Before we left my sister said we ...

Just returned from an 11 night cruise on the Independence of the Seas from Southampton and was pleasantly surprised. It did not start off well as there were very long delays at the port because they were deep cleaning the ship following a virus on the previous cruise, and to add to that the computers broke down and we had to wait outside for at least a couple of hours. Because of the virus the ...

This was our 15th cruise on Royal Caribbean and our second on this ship. We enjoy a bit of R&R in the sun in the winter and were not too concerned about the itinerary. Our main reason for choosing this cruise was the Southampton embarkation. The trip did not start well. A few days before leaving we received an email saying that the ship had a gastrointestinal problem and to arrive at ...

Not so bad after all on the Indy to the Canaries

Second time on Indy and better than expected. On a very cold sunny day we arrived at SOU around 1215, joined lines for car park baggage drop. Less than 10 mins and parked. Joined queue of over 75 yds in freezing wind. After about 5 min wait terminal staff walked the queue to check for Crown & Anchor members. As Diamond we were then fast tracked to security, and then check in. This saved us I ...

On arrival at Malaga, we were handed a typed piece of paper, which due to handling luggage and 2 children, didn't get to read properly until we were on the transfer bus........when too late, we found out that the ship was being "sanitised" due to an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting. This lead to an hour and a half transfer, "sightseeing" from a coach, instead of a 25 minute transfer. We ...

Embarkation and Car Parking in Southampton excellent - we arrived at about 11.30 but I did hear there were long queue's later at around 1 p.m. Of course all passengers are told to embark at one o'clock - this may be a mistake as most of the cruisers are from the UK and can time their arrival so "do as they are told" and all arrive at the same time. Ship is beautiful - our Junior Suite on deck ...
