. I found this cruise simply because my spouse wanted to only go on a five day cruise and this was perfect. I liked that it was a different cruise line then the one we traveled before. I wanted to make a comparison to see which was better. I will use Royal Caribbean from now on. You know exactly how to treat your guests, from the cabins to the entertainment and the food who could ask for anything more. The staff was excellent in the dining room we could not have asked for better service. They made you feel like royalty. The Cruise Director Paul was absolutely wonderful he did n outstanding job as well as Tonya. the activities they had planned for the entire time was absolutely great. There is no way that someone could say they were bored. There were activities for all ages. I can't remember when my husband and I had so much fun on a vacation. I want to Thank Royal Caribbean for making our vacation so wonderful. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was leaving on my friends birthday. Started out as a small possibility of the two of us going and ended up a group of 10 having a wonderful time celebrating the birthday and enjoying a cruise to beautiful Bermuda. Grandeur (Lady G) is a wonderful ship. On the smaller side but still lots to do and not over crowded. She is showing her age but is well maintained and staffed by an amazing crew. The crew we encountered were great as usual. Royal always seems to deliver on this. This being my 6th cruise, all Royal I have gotten used to the way they do things and have not yet been motivated to switch to any other cruise line. I have noticed a couple changes that I don't like. First, why is BINGO a 1 game and done situation now and no more progressive jackpot played throughout the cruise. We loved the build up and excitement, plus the prize could be a large sum on longer cruises, 9k on a 12 day cruise once. Also, how activities are sometimes limited, they had Karaoke it was limited to 1 hour no matter how many people showed up. If it were longer wouldn't people stay and buy drinks and mingle? We felt "kicked out" right in the middle of the fun. This is not really a big deal and of course there were other things to do but it just seemed a little stunted sometimes. We had lunch at Chops day 1, GREAT food, SLOW service, the only reason I mention this is because our group of 10 and 2 other tables with 2 people each were the only guests and service was slow, with only 14 people in the entire restaurant it would seem it should be easier to serve timely. Service in MDR was a little off as well but still VERY friendly and welcoming and the food was good. I love cruising and Grandeur is yet another Royal ship I would gladly sail again. Read Less

This being my first cruise i really have nothing to compare it to. However, royal caribbean has set the bar high for future cruises. The service was outstanding! The food was to live for!! The night life was always exciting, and the staff was outgoing, friendly, and warm. The entertainment on the cruise was top quality. I especially liked the forever elvis shows. Each show was different, but both shows were high energy and the performers were great sports. I often saw elvis or one of his band members taking picture with the guests! (myself included) our cabin was comfortable, plenty of room for the two of us. The ship was impeccably clean as well as our room. We even had a different towel animal left in our room each night! We found the drink package royal caribbean offers to be well worth it. (just make sure you purchase it in advance... it saves you $11 a day) LOVED OUR FIRST CRUISE AND ALREADY PLANNING FOR THE NEXT (with Royal Caribbean of course) Read Less

Great experience, super service, fantastic food, excellent entertainment, exceptional excursion experience. One rough night due to weather, but even that really wasn't all that bad. All in all probably the most efficient way we have ever traveled. Disembarking was thorough, quick, ahead of schedule, scary and quite confusing. Our room attendant, waitstaff, and program staff were all extremely friendly and quite accommodating. We would gladly have turned around and gotten right back on the ship, even though our disembarking experience was less than stellar. We would highly recommend the trip and the cruise line. Loved this cruise! Two days on the ship Days 1 and 2, afternoon to next morning in Bermuda Day 3. Then Day 4-5 back on ship and home to port in Baltimore, MD. Wonderful experience! Staff bent over backwards to make our cruise special! Except for a little rocky weather on day 4, we enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the sea. The shows, the food, the shore excursions, everything was perfect! We were especially surprised every day with the clever and whimsical towel animals left by our Stateroom Steward. He had a special designed characters- swans and a heart for our anniversary, which was on the 18th. The waiters on our table 331 for the evening meal, had our drinks, ice tea and hot coffee waiting for us as we sat at our chairs at dinner. Entertainment was fabulous and professional. My wife is retired military and they recognized her and all military and first responders. Hurricane Tanya gave a poignant rendition of hallelujah! Everything was just right! We will definitely be back to cruise! Read Less

The time and place was the right time and place for all of us traveling. I don't recommend this time of year, the weather was not good, in addition the food was terrible, I have been on several Carnival and Norwegian cruises and it is 100% better. The staff however, was wonderful. You couldn't ask for more committed and proud employees. I do think they were lacking in the amount of staff though because the food and drinks sat around along while before being picked up and there are no places to put it yourself so you are stuck with dirty dishes and drinks spilling and falling on the deck during the rough seas we had. The comedian on the last night of the trip was great, as were the game shows which we all participated in. The weather definitely put a damper on what we were able to see in Bermuda, but that is not Royal Caribbean's fault. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it was a gift for my wife's birthday. We share a 2 year daughter together who also came with us on the cruise. I would rate the cruise rating even higher if there were more events or activities for our child. There is a children's area on the Grandeur of Seas, however, a problem does exist. The portion that is some-what like a nursery is very very very small. I think only infants would be practical here and even so, maybe two total. The selection of toys were also targeted for the infant and not the toddler. The age criteria for the nursery is children 2 years and below. The other portion of the children's area is for 3 years and up. So that's a problem for our 2 year old. So if you are 2 years old, you do not fit in on this ship. Also, Royal Caribbean policy does not allow children in swim diapers to enter the pools, so count the pool out for your toddler if they are too young. I think more events could of been planned in the Centrum, which seem to be the prized area of the ship. My daughter did enjoy the "Fair games" that everyone could partake in. Maybe events like the fair games would great for little ones, the face painting was great. I know many would just leave their children at home and go on a cruise, but that is not our intentions. If that is a possibility for other cruisers, then I would give the rating a much higher score. It was tough taking laps around the ship because that was most of what we could only do with a 2 year old. Also, This cruise was in October, from Baltimore to Bermuda. The child count was 90, but I am assuming that is children 17 and below. Something to consider. A short talk on the cabins. I would recommend trying your best to get a cabin from Deck 4 and above. I was on deck 2 and, yes, you could smell a light stench constantly from the bathroom. The noise was not a problem, (ocean and engines) these ships are pretty strong. I talked briefly with a family on Deck 3, they agreed about the same issues of smell. The bathrooms are super small. I am 6ft and approximately 225 lbs, a very tight fit in the shower.... Please take my advice. Spend more $$$ or book earlier and you will be satisfied. "Cry now, not later!" I guess I purchased a little late (Approx 5 mos). Most buy them 1 year to 6-8 mos in advanced. Oh yeah... DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT! > eat at the Bone Fish Restaurant at Kings Warf Port. Its cost $15 dollars and change for a burrito. Other items on the menu are $18 and even $20 dollars per dish. Gratuity is automatically added to bill also. I am saying I have had more expensive food before, but the quality is something to consider. This Bone Fish Restaurant is a tourist trap! You can see the place as soon as you approach the roadway. ITS A TRAP! If you want food that is fast service and a far better price, take a bus or whatever your preferred method is to Horseshoe Bay. Just at the cove/beach plataeu is a great beach themed restaurant for drinks, ice cream, burgers, hit dogs, mozz sticks, and more. Warning, Horseshoe Bay is rumored to be busy/crowded, lucky for us, it wasn't! The alcohol drink package is very important. You will save big time. If you purchase an alcohol package, the soda package is included. Only problem is, you must order one drink at a time. This is done to limit potential sharing, to entice you to buy an additional package per person. If you have a little ingenuity like me, this isn't a problem. Just order your drinks with a little "skill" in timing, servers, and location... you get my point? The food was great! No complaints on a single meal or prepared drink. The servers are awesome, the waiters are compassionate and will make your family happy. Our waiters at dinner even remembered our first names and drink preferences every night. The room attendants were fast and polite. I made one request for new sheets and it was done pronto, like genie poof fast. Yes, I even rigged a secret trap to see if they did the real deal and not just a quick tighten up. They are legit! The room service is not completely complimentary for all the 1st timers out there. There is a service charge of $7.95 per delivery and sometimes an additional $3.00, not sure why the $3.00 though... I did order a lot of bacon one time, maybe that was it? Finally, the last issue. I think the port times could be arranged better. Why do we have to leave between 1pm and 2pm on the the second day? Maybe its a rule for the port or something? Its kinda sad that you arrive at mid day on day 1, have to run about the island and hope to make it back for your dinner time, unless you hit the buffet when you return. Then you leave so early the next day...I mean, you dropped us off at the end of the cruise in Baltimore at 730ish in the morning, that's not fair. Why cant we get to Bermuda in the morning to at least give 1 full day instead of 2 half days. The second day, you better get your lamb chops on the ship by boarding time because they do not wait if you are late. So really you short an additional hour or two if your smart on your ALREADY HALF DAY. Read Less

why choose service room food activities We chose this cruise due to the convenience of sailing out of Baltimore - super easy to get to from Washington, DC and we loved the idea of avoiding flights. Pre-Cruise: My overall rating for the pre-cruise experience is less than 1 star. It was horrible, because RC cancelled our reservation just weeks before sailing. We were paid in full by the way. I only even figured this out because I was trying to book spa treatments and excursions and was having trouble finding my reservation online. RC tried to blame AMEX Travel... thankfully I booked through a travel agency or I may have never made it on this ship. This was also a special trip for a big birthday, with friends. They finally reinstated our booking making a big deal about giving us an "upgrade" from an interior to a exterior (small window) room. Honestly, we didn't care about having a window and it didn't feel like much of an upgrade for the trouble we went through. A few days after our trip was reinstated, RC messed up again, this time refunding my credit card when they were suppose to be sending a check to AMEX Travel for their commission. For this mistake (and thankfully I caught it b/c this put us in "money still owed" and could have cancelled us again) they offered a $50 onboard credit. Not to get into all the details but we continued to have more issues prior to sailing. I emailed the SVP of Customer Service - Vickie Freed - vfreed@rccl.com - and hoped she could make up for all the trouble. Her assistant did reach out, and promised an additional $100 onboard credit and specifically asked what my favorite wine was so she could request it be delivered to our room. Checking In: We waited around a lot the day of the cruise, arriving right at 11:30am, but it was because the Cost Guard was running a check. Not RC's fault. They did their best to get us on board as quickly as possible. Food: The food on this ship was nothing to write home about. Generally pretty bland and finding a fresh vegetable was a serious challenge. Even the salad was sad and depressing. We were dying for a Kale by the time I got off this ship or anything with real nutrition. I will say, the specialty restaurants are another story. The Sushi Restaurant and Steakhouse had GREAT food and EXCELLENT service. My only regret is waiting until the last day to experience these. Beverages/Bar: HORRIBLE service. We purchased the unlimited package... I'm not sure if that was why but in general the bartenders were super unaccommodating and at times just simply RUDE. At one point we wanted to BUY upgraded champagne (hello... we we're trying to spend $$ on the ship, just what they want!) and we were turned away by FOUR, yes four different bars - Schooner Bar, Atrium Bar, Pool Bar and Casino Bar. We finally went to Guest Services for help, but its absolutely ridiculous that we had to run around the ship looking for Chandon Champagne when its on the menu and we are on vacation. Why didn't anyone offer to assist or find it for yes? It left a major bad taste in our mouths. PS The Schooner Bar has a disgusting smell in the right corner of the bar... vomit and bleach smell that will probably never go away. General Service: Overall the staff was not friendly compared to other lines we've sailed with. We did find a few stars - such as Michael and Raniel in the Sushi Restaurant. Very argumentative staff and very defensive. Cabin: It's what you'd expect of a exterior/interior cabin. I will say it was VERY 1996 in decor, but you're not in your room much, so embrace it, I guess! Water did start leaking up from below the carpet on day 4 - pretty gross - we didn't complain b/c at this point we knew the response would be argumentative but our attendant noticed. We were offered 15% off a future booking, which we will likely never cash in on. Ports: Not enough time in Bermuda. I think they planned the schedule around keeping the Casino open as long as possible, honestly. Weather in Bermuda in October was just okay, again not RC or the ship's fault though, but keep in mind weather when you pick your week because there isn't much to do on the ship and you will want to make the most of your time in port. Entertainment: Meh. Nothing special. 1 of 2 comedians was hilarious. Shows were so so. Karaoke only offered a few times. We played BINGO! In general, we felt everything that was offered would be offered all at the same time, right around dinner seating #2, which we had, so we felt we missed out and should have picked dinner seating #1. The sushi making class was fun. Spa: UGH. Worst massage of my life. Argumentative staff. Post-cruise: I followed up and informed the assistant that I never received the wine she promised. She accused me of lying and sent me a list of "special things" the ship did for us that NEVER HAPPENED. She went as far as to tell me they treated me like a "VIP", escorted me personally onto the ship, sent me a bottle of wine, fruit basket, birthday cake and balloons. I assured her, none of these things happened, to which she simply stated she was "at a loss for words". Overall, I give RC 2 thumbs down and even with this older ship sailing out of our perfected port of Baltimore, I will never pick Grander of the Seas again! Read Less

Decided on Royal Caribbean due to a buy one get one 50% off deal. Port was super convenient and close to our home. First cruise and was very impressed by all aspects of the cruise. Great food, service and tons of events for entertainment. Very clean ship! There was always something going on and the crew were so willing to do whatever you asked. I did not encounter one rude person on the ship. The drinks were very good and tons of different food choices. I do not eat red meat or pork and I was able to find tons of food options. The pool areas were very nice with plenty of room and crew was quick to cleanup keeping everything very clean. The only complaint I have is that smoking was allowed in the casino and I couldn't stay in there very long for it started making me feel sick. There was a non-smoking area in the casino but it did not shield you from the smoking. Read Less

When getting on the ship from Baltimore things went smoothly, very easy for first timers. Don't go early (there is a lot of people). If you go a little later you can almost walk right though. The ship was always clean. In the 5 nights we were on the boat I only saw one thing on the floor on the stairwell, I think someone had just dropped it. Very Clean. The cruise was smooth. The cabin we had was very roomy and clean. Hint (you might want to bring a little air freshener with you for the bathroom, it is a boat toilet after all), but always kept clean. If you love food and who doesn't... then cruising is for you. The Main Dining room has super great gourmet food. The WindJammer is a buffet with all your hearts desires. Hint (don't go during peak times, VERY crowded). The entertainment and activities are good, things usually last about 30 minutes or so. The service is the most amazing part. We fell in love with the people who took care of us, we still keep in touch. Bermuda was really pretty. We shared a taxi with another couple (didn't use the cruise line shore excursions) our taxi driver Sydney Robertson is the man to see. He was at the dock picking up passengers. We saw most of the island, stopped and took photos, heard all the local stories and history. Very interesting!!! I think we learned more about Bermuda then we would have with anyone else. I would use him everytime!!! There were kids on the boat, but you rarely saw them, they have activities for them. We can't wait to go on our next cruise!!!! Try it, my husband was skeptical and is now looking into another one already. Read Less
