We desired a cruise out of our local port, Baltimore, for convenience. We did this same itinerary out of Cape Liberty on a different boat in 2010. We were able to get on the boat in the late morning, providing an extra day of onboard fun. We left on time. Ship was clean and crew as friendly as last time. Captain did an exquisite job of dodging three hurricanes and we ended up with beautiful weather on every day. Shout out to our cabin steward; cabin was well kept and he was extremely responsive. Food was a C+ -- Windjammer lacked variety and main dining room was literally serving the exact same menus as two years ago. Entertainment was a B+, with a pop cover band, enrichment talks, and educational art auctions. Only complaint was the dining staff. There was a bit of a language barrier and they interrupted our table conversations too often. A smaller ship, like Grandeur, has its pros and cons. We met dozens of people that we kept meeting up with throughout the cruise. That never happened on the larger ships. We would definitely sail on Grandeur again, but wish they offered more itineraries out of Baltimore. Read Less

I choose this cruise for convenience as I live in Maryland and it was close to my birthday. Me and my girlfriend are both in our 30s and had a great time. Service on ship was excellent wether your talking about the MDR our room stewards etc.. We ate at chops and it was delicious we’re on the other royal ships we have been in. Izumi was also good we have eaten on other ships and then experience there was by far the best. I read a lot about this shop draws a older crowd and I could see that but it might just be when you go and your itinerary. Also read before we went that the shop shuts down at 10 or 11 o’clock which in my experience is also not true. They had live music in the centrum until at least midnight and one of the nights we went to the night club on board and people were still dancing partying etc and it was past 2am. The ship is small and for a young active couple I think 5 or maybe 7 nights max would be the perfect length on this ship as I think any longer I would have started to get board. Bermuda was awesome and beautiful and hopefully will be able to go back soon. Overall I had a great time and at the end of the day your vacation is all about what you make it. Read Less

We chose this cruise strictly for the convenience of the port. The port of Baltimore is so convenient, the parking is reasonable, the staff are helpful, and everything is run quite efficiently.. We also wanted to try a different itinerary other than the Caribbean..The New England coast was beautiful and did not disappoint us, but, I guess I was expecting a little more and eventhough I adored the staff, I do not believe it will be enough for us to come back unless there is an exceptional bargain being offered.us..for starters the Broadway shows and entertainment we always look forward to on other ships..just terrible..couldn't even watch it here. That was a bummer. Also, there was one evening I was not feeling well so I was in my room which is rarely the case .. but there is absolutely nothing to watch on TV . Only thing to watch are old reruns of some bygone show noone has ever watched and John and Katrina doing the RC commercials..its just really ridiculous and frustrating especially after all the money we've spent for that room! I like John and Katrina, don't get me wrong, but I don't want to watch them on tv all night too.! This ship sadly just does not offer enough activity for a livelier crowd.. with that being said, there are definitely some highlights though. Michael is awesome and so hilarious! He had me cracking up all week..My family loved him and he keeps everyone entertained as much as possible..The food is typical cruise food and theres plenty to choose from, so if you can't find something you like from the many options they provide, then don't go on a cruise! Also, the way I'm looking at it, I'm not cooking and cleaning for a week so I'm not complaining too much :-) it's a cruise for God sake so how bad can it be:-) my only real complaint was that it was way more money than I have paid for cruises in the past, so I guess I was expecting a little more Read Less

So, my parents decided that they wanted to see Bermuda again, and wanted to take the rest of us - so we were a group of 10 (7 adults, 2 teens, 1 kid). My husband and I live in Baltimore, so my parents decided we should go out on the Grandeur. This was our third cruise, the first two were one the Carnival Pride (so fair warning, there will be some comparisons). The best: The solarium is an amazing place on this ship. A glass enclosed adult-only section with a little food counter and direct access to the spa with the sauna and steam room. It was amazing, and WAY better than the Pride's adult only section. We almost always were able to find lounge chairs, and the pool is a real sized pool! Actually, both pools were real sized - which was a definite step up from the Pride's pools, with way more hot tubs. We ate at Chops one night and it was delicious! (on par with the prides steak house) The staff is all very friendly and sweet and helpful. Comparing to the Pride: Embarkation and departure were a dream on the Grandeur - Easy and fast. (the Pride was a nightmare both times) The Good: The windjammer was delicious for breakfast and lunch. The great Gatsby was mostly good for dinner. The spaces on the ship (south pacific lounge, centrum, schooner bar) were beautiful. The bad: Dining: Not one dinner meal did everyone get their food at the same time - and my mom is a stickler for 'no one eats if everyone doesn't have a plate'. We received poorly done meat (seriously - who eats well done prime rib?). And breakfast in the main dining room was disgusting (cold eggs benedict two mornings in a row . . ugh). Maintenance: 2 of the 9 elevators were broken from day 1. 2 of the remaining were on/off throughout the cruise (luckily it's a small ship). Entertainment: The Schooner bar piano guy (andy?) needs to retire. No voice, not familiar with all the words to songs and very low energy. the beautiful south pacific lounge was bad karaoke multiple nights of the 5 night cruise. The ship basically closes down except the one night club room and an outdoor movie playing by 10pm each evening. Room: the beds were cots shoved together. Lumpy and hard. Verdict: I wish this ship could get a revamp - better food, better entertainment - because the ship itself is lovely and had a lot of promise. But, as is? I won't be choosing this ship over the Pride. The RC cruises typically are more expensive than Carnival, and the pros weren't enough to sway me. Read Less

The ship is not very new, but its clean and looks good. Cabins are a good size, and amenities are good. Food was great, pretty standard though. They don't have 24/7 food like all the other cruises I went on, but they have it until 2/3am. The entertainment was good. But the comedian, Jeff Norris, on the final day went a bit far and people started yelling at him and leaving... Would not want to see him again. Wish they weren't partnered with him. Service was good. They strive to give you perfection, but make sure you speak up. The ports and excursions were good. You can disembark quickly and they provide a lot of support for getting to where you need to go. Finally I did dislike the upselling. When you are eating your food they have ads for more expensive options. If you go to the spa, they will give you want you want and try and sell you more and more. The art auctions they let the crowd choose what art to see, but only show half of those AFTER they try and sell you on the ones they want to show you. I don't remember that being as bad on Carnival and Princess, but maybe it's the changing times. Read Less

This was our 9th cruise, 2nd with Royal. After cruising on the Oasis, I have to say that the small to medium size ship are more attractive to me. Although the Grandeur is an older ship, and smaller ship, it has a charm to it that makes you look over some of its dated look. The open atrium (centrum) makes the ship feel larger than it is. We are a family of four, and travel with friends We booked two ocean view rooms, deck 2, Rooms are adequate with plenty of storage, and drawer space. Dining. Overall a good variety of offerings in the Windjammer, healthy corner was appreciated. Omelet station was frequented often by some. Lots of choices for meat lovers of vegans. Main dining room was also quite good, with a nice rotation of different meals every night. Crab cakes were especially good. Service was great, fun friendly staff made our mealtime enjoyable. Entertainment. Enjoyed John Blair and his team. Smaller ships give you the opportunity to see this group in action more readily than the larger ships. Always a fun activity to watch or participate. John also gives a matinee performance Tribute to Neil Diamond. If you close your eyes you would think Mr Diamond was in the room, very good. Ports.Bermuda was beautiful, next time maybe 3 night stay would make it even better. Did a 4 hour tour with local Taxi. Very informative tour with lots of local tidbits from this native driver. Stops at St George, Hamilton and other points of interest Horseshoe Bay was spectacular, beautiful pink sand and rock formations were visually satisfying.(bring the camera) Nassau. walked to The Queens staircase for a few photos, some shopping on Bay street, overall a pleasant few hours, we skipped the beach, have been here before CoCo Cay. Amazing transformation to this island, making it an absolutely wonderful, or shall I say "Perfect Day", spent a few hours on Chill Island, relaxed, some beach time, a quick meal at the food/ grill shack, lots of Beveridge stations as well.Moved to the Oasis pool for a quick afternoon dip and DJ music, the pool is HUGE, clean and refreshing, very enjoyable. Negatives? Yes there were some, food a little on he salty side, not used to that. The ship is scheduled for a major Dry Dock, I believe next year? and probable needs more than a coat of paint, a upgrade in many areas would benefit this already charming little ship. The staff is encouraged to upsell, upsell, upsell, specialty restaurants, drinks, spa, photos and more, no issue with that, but at mealtime it seemed a bit much to have it mentioned numerous times to accept one offering or another. Would I sail her again? Yes, for 2 reasons, no need to fly from where we live, drove to the departure port the night before, stayed at the Best Western in Elkridge , one night and provided parking for the duration of the cruise, really convenient. Complimentary breakfast, great staff, clean rooms. Shuttle to and from the port and they also drove us and picked up from Arundel Mills Mall nearby. The ship has a few itineraries that are of interest, would do Bermuda again, New England Canada cruise and have my eye on the 12 night southern Caribbean itinerary. Overall a great cruise Read Less

Grandure is a bit dated but if you are looking for classic cruising this is a good ship to meet those types of expectations. Royal has not updated this ship to include water slides and a wave runner. Because of this, the ship draws an older crowd and there are few children, teens and college aged folks. Since the ship is older and lacks these amenities the price point is lower and attracts cotton tops on a fixed income and people who are looking for a bargain. The crew was awesome. It is not unusual for crew to try and remember you and your tastes but it seems that this crew really has a talent to make to feel you are the only person they are taking care of. I could write a review on Dan Burgess, the piano player in the Schooner Bar, and his talent for making connections and bringing an entire room of people together and making them have a great time. The food is standard Royal Caribbean offerings. I don’t find any uniqueness or variation in menu, quality or presentation from one RC ship to another. I believe corporate does this to maintain a homogenous expectation much like a chain of restaurants. I think this is a mistake because passengers feel like they are eating at the same chain restaurant every night and every cruise. The food in the MDR and the buffet are the same. The premium restaurants do serve a notch higher quality and portion and variety of menu. I would like to see RC put an exec chef of every ship and give them autonomy to create dining venues and offering that make one RC ship unique from another. My only truly negative feelings are of RC and their incessant and relentless jamming of dining, drink, internet, next cruise, jewelry, shore excursions etc etc. They are there to sell these things and I am here to buy them. Their nonstop, high pressure tactics is a HUGE turn off for me. Immediately upon entering the door of their terminal we were ordered, in a not so nice way, to empty all of our outside drinks on the ground. After checking in and even before getting to the ship we were hit up for dining packages, drink packages and the usual obligatory photo. I have no issue with this. Once on the ship, we were approached NINE (yes nine) times in the first hour to purchase premium dining. I began for feel this was rude and I had no problem being rude to anyone who approached me with a smile and a brochure by telling them to go away. Hitting the Windjammer for lunch as soon as you board is a bad idea unless you want to start your vacation by becoming angry. The spa personnel set up a table and greeted guests as you approached them instead of circling an area like a street beggar who is desperately pan handling for drug money. I purchased over $500 in spa services for my family. This is proof that slamming your guests with an army of beggars is not effective and creates a paradigm of anger that lasts for the entire cruise. If you are not a stickler for details and can turn a blind eye to sloppy repairs in public areas, worn furniture and scratches; then this may be a good fit for you. I would sail on Grandure again as the value is fair. If those little things bother you and mildew totally turns you off then you may want to look at Oasis class ships. Read Less

About us: We are a retired couple in our early 70's. This was our 11th cruise, 2nd on Royal Caribbean. It was also our 2nd cruise to Canada/New England. We chose this particular cruise because our local AAA was running a special that would provide us with transportation from NE Ohio to and from the port of Baltimore. The ages on this cruise ranged from about 12 mos. to the mid 90's. Since school was still in session, there were only a few teens and grade school age kids. Most were in the 2-5 year old category and were very well behaved. Probably the majority of the passengers were in the 50-70 range. First, let me clarify that an average cruise is a good cruise. We had fun, we met friendly, interesting people, and we saw some interesting ports. There just wasn't a lot of the WOW factor I have come to expect from a cruise. One particular WOW--the crew was outstanding. They were polite, friendly, and always ready to help. On the first day, we noticed that the sink in our cabin was draining very slowly so we reported it to our steward, Rowena (a master of the towel animal, by the way). By the time we returned from dinner, it was fixed. Although we chose My Time Dining, we were asked to give an approximate time when we would be eating. We showed up every night between 6:30 and 6:45 and our table was always ready for us. Our waiters, Eloisa and Jely Ann couldn't have been nicer. Special mention also goes to the Cruise Director, John Blair, and his wife, Katrina, the Activities Director. They were probably the best we've ever had. John's Neil Diamond Tribute show is outstanding. The ship itself is older and is showing its age. I understand it is due for dry dock in a couple years. It was okay but nothing particularly exciting. Food in the Great Gatsby Dining Room ranged from very good to excellent. We ate there as often as possible, including breakfast and lunch when we could. The tomato sauce for pasta tasted a lot like what we had as kids on Spaghetti O's. On the other hand, food in the Windjammer was uninspiring. It was mostly same old/same old. Especially disappointing--the waffles, pancakes, and French toast were pro-cooked and just sat there under a napkin getting cold and hard around the edges. We saw most of the theatre shows, including Salute to Broadway and All Access featuring the ship's singers and dancers. We also enjoyed three of the guest entertainers, singer Michelle Murlin, Olympic gymnast Lance Ringnald, and Vegas star Clint Holmes. There were a few others we skipped. During the afternoons, pianist Anna entertained in the Centrum, She was great. The Bluewater Band took over during and after dinner, with plenty of easy listening and dancing music. We never did go to hear Giovanni in the Schooner Bar. The pool band, Positive Vibrations, didn't get much chance to play because the weather was so chilly. The bad: Mainly our cabin. We had an ocean view on Deck 2. I did not realize how much having the beds block access to the window would bother us, plus there's hardly no room to walk along the sides of the bed. I will never again sail without a balcony. I also feel RCI has gone overboard on either economizing or ecology consciousness, or both. Soap and shampoo made no lather. Toilet paper and facial tissue were flimsy and harsh. AND there was NO chocolate on the pillow! Now that's what I call bad. We booked all our shore excursions through the ship. The first port was Boston. We had been there many times before so we took the excursion to Historic Salem and the Witch Museum. We stopped at the Derby Wharf for lunch at a local restaurant and shopping at the National Parks Gift Shop, only we really didn't have time for both--just grab a bite and get back on the bus because we had to be at the Witch Museum by 1. So we got to the Witch Museum, saw the presentation, which was very good, and had 15 minutes in the gift shop. Then back on the bus and rush back to Boston. There was no time to walk around Salem. When we got back, we found out that the bus was taking another tour group somewhere. That's why we had to rush so much. In Portland, we took the Taste of Maine tour. We rode a bus to Long Lake and took a paddlewheel boat ride. A lunch consisting or lobster roll, potato chips, and bottled water was served on board, Then we took another bus ride to Pietree Orchard for some excellent apple pie and a hayride through the orchards, just budding for spring. We were only about 30 miles from the Maine/New Hampshire border, and you could see the snow on the mountains in the distance. In Bar Harbor, we took the Intimate Look at Acadia National Park tour. When we were here before, the weather (October) was beautiful but the park was closed due to a government shutdown. This year, the park was open but it was so foggy you couldn't see much. Still, our driver provided an interesting narrative and we stopped at Thunder Hole and the Jordan Pond House gift shop. The next port was St. John, New Brunswick, where we took the St. John and Bay of Fundy Top 10 tour. We saw the reversing rapids, bought candy bars at the City Market, and enjoyed a local entertainer singing Irish folk songs at O' Leary's Irish Pub, where we also had a glass of Moosehead beer. Then we rode out to the fishing village of St. Martin where we stopped for a delicious lunch of fish chowder or minestrone, biscuits, and freshly-baked cookies. We had time to walk on the beach and search for lucky stones. On the way home, we stopped again at the reversing rapids to see how the water level had changed. Our final port was Halifax, Nova Scotia, where we visited the Famous Peggy's Cove Fishing Village. The setting was beautiful, very photogenic, but it was COLD. The high was 44 degrees F, but the wind chill was down near 32. I bought a winter hat. We like the convenience of sailing out of Baltimore but probably would not do this itinerary again. There are some other interesting trips offered, so we might look into those. One piece of advice--wait until later in the year to sail north. We haven't been on a cruise in many months and we haven't been on a Royal Caribbean cruise since 2008. Our previous experiences were all right; and we wanted to see New England as we've been the Caribbean far too often. Ports: I enjoyed the Itinerary. Boston was great, so much to do and a nice long time in Boston. Portland, Maine was fabulous, Bar Harbor, Maine was foggy and cold, and a lot of local businesses were closed (it was a Monday, and the place has a lot of Mom and Pop shops). Saint John was freezing cold, but folks were very nice and the city is very walkable. Halifax was amazing, almost as amazing as Boston. I wish we had more time there, the weather was damp, cold and freezing wind, yet the Titanic/Shipping museum was worth it. Ship: Old ship, small ship, the Atrium is in the Aft of the ship and where everything happens. The cruise director, John was amazing, (Hello John). They have a ton going on, great trivia, and activities and the show, "All Access" was great. The ship itself is old, and worn in parts, and the first night the plumbing went out and there was no water at all for a few hours (yikes!!!). Not technology updated as the internet was mega slow for everyone, and didn't work in the rooms, it worked well in the Forward public of areas. Not enough outlets to charge all our devices (two outlets per room, bad). The Bad: The food. The food was terrible. It was Stouffer's/Lean Cuisine'esque. Royal Caribbean is efficient, they close their restaurants on the dime, they don't waste food, they close things down quick. Also, they have a off hours cafe, the only issue it is located in the Adults Only section of the ship. I had to sneak my kids in their for after hours snacks. Food was bland, service was good, staff was nice, food just was abysmal, even in the up charge restaurant. Try the cruise, just make sure you eat off the ship!!!! This was our second cruise on Lady G. Chose this ship as it sails from Baltimore. I grew up near Baltimore and sailed with family that still lives in Maryland. Cabin was kept clean at all times by our steward Oliver. Balcony door was difficult to open and should be repaired. Food in MDR was excellent. The service in the MDR isn't at attentive as it used to be. I believe that to be a product of staff reductions and not the effort of the individual staff members. The wait staff was simply assigned more tables than they could handle. Chops was wonderful. Giovanni's Table was good, but the menu could use a few standard Italian dishes. Paid to attend the Lobster Brunch in Chops and was severely disappointed. They only bring you the lobster after you've been there for about 30 minutes. Then we had to wait another 30 minutes for a second lobster tail. This was not what we expected when they advertised "unlimited lobster". Service a the R Bar was less than expected. On two separate visits we were kept waiting quite some time for the waiter to take our drink orders. Would have been faster to go to the bar. Same thing happened at the Schooner Bar. Did end up going to the bar for that drink. The shows were good. Singers were very talented. Read Less

We sailed the Grandeur April 25-May 2 2019. From the ease of embarkation to the ease of disembarkation this was a great trip. The ship though considered small had so much to do. Probably not as modern as newer ships but still had a great vibe to it. We were in Cabin 7111 which is a sideways room. The layout made it seem bigger. Always kept great but the housekeeping staff. Shower was a bit tight but manageable. The food was excellent. Lots to choose from at Windjammer and very good. Usually the same stuff everyday though they did mix it up and theme it up as well. The Great Gatsby was a nice dining room for dinner and again the food was mmmmm good. However I wish they had a little more variety and bigger portions. We didnt do the specialty places. The Casino was fun but you sure can lose money fast. And for some reason they allow smoking there which made playing at times not so fun. But the games were cool just be prepared to not walk away with millions. Lots of trivia to be had which was hard but fun. People really got into it. Lots of music everyday including a live bad on pool deck and in the centrum. There was Karoke and karoke with a live band which was fun. Art shows and wine tasting and tours. Lots to do on board for adults. The shows not so great. Ok but not great. Not the best singers and dancers ive seen but all seemed very young. Had 2 comedians which were awesome. The service on the ship was outstanding especially at the bars. Drinks were delicious and service top notch.Our stops were Bermuda and Charleston Sc. Bermuda was ok but found out Ferrys dont run on weekends so we were stuck on the port side of it and not all that much to do there. The fort tour was cool though where you could see Dolphins as well. Charleston was much better. Lots of history. Being a Disney fanatic i was leery about trying anything else but i must say was delightfully surprised how good a trip and how everything was. I recommend highly a trip on this ship. Just keep in mind too the crowd tended to be a bit older with some kids but not many. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a relaxing winter get away, and that's exactly what it was. The size of the ship was perfect. It wasn't too big, but big enough to offer enough to do. I thought the entertainment was very good. There was a problem with the stage, and shows had to be switched around, but they made sure there was a show every night. The food in the main dining room was excellent. We also ate in two of the specialty dining rooms and they were wonderful. The employees were very nice and always willing to help. I felt that several people on the ship had sailed on the Grandeur before and kept coming back. That says a lot for the ship and the people. I don't really have anything else to say. I like the cruise and the ports. I would consider cruising on the Grandeur again. Thank you. Read Less

This was our first trip out of Baltimore and aboard RCL. The ship, though rather old now, appeared to be well maintained and about as large as we would like. Crew were all very friendly accept for one of the guest service clerks who must have been having a bad day when we asked him to help in describing a charge on our account. It ended up being a DVD that we purchased. The charge statement could use some more detail on it to avoid such requests. Entertainment was really good and the food in the main dining room ended up being quite good after a couple of days of being less than steller. Our waiter helped us out by recommending some choices and having us avoid others which was much appreciated! The shore excursions were managed pretty well but varried in value for the money. We ate at two out of three specialty restaurants and Chef's Table all of which were top drawer. Over all we rated this cruise 4 out of 5. It would have been a 5 if the main dining room food had been more consistant throughout the cruise and St Thomas (probably damaged by the storms) replaced St Croix. It has been a while since we have sailed with RCCL but it seemed that dining was not quite what I remembered it to be but I definatly did not go hungery There was no access to the ice cream machine during bad weather or after 8:30 pm. The cabin did not have a refer which was a first for us. Entertainment was hit or miss, with all of these sea days there was only one guest lecturer, would have like more and even he was cut short on time. Crew was very friendly and helpfull with exception of the staff person in the internet area who was doing his own thing and did not want to be bothered with questions. activities in these ports were somewhat limited but still things to do if you took excursions. having to travel from Montana to Baltimore I probably would not do it again in the winter. overall a good trip. We chose this cruise because of the destinations. We book travel every year during the winter months. This was a very good cruise. There were only two things that would have made this cruise better. A hard closing shower door vs the old and not secure curtain. Every day we would have to fight with it and I'm a small woman. There's no reason to know a shower curtain that intimately. Secound was the hamburger quality. My several attempts to eat it were disgusting. There was gristle & fat all through out it. I've gone on other cruises that have (Guy Fierri) burger places on them and they're STELLAR! With hamburgers, then lasagna, meatballs, and the many other dishes that had hamburger in them, they SERIOUSLY need better quality beef. The shows were Amazing. Our cabin steward was AWESOME!! The one day I was sea sick and he told me that he's around all day long in the hallway if I needed anything. Would I go on Royal Caribbean again, Yes but probably closer to my destination (like out of Florida). Read Less

This is our 3rd cruise out of Baltimore, 2nd on Grandeur and once on her sister ship. We were on deck 7 in a spacious ocean view cabin and had Cornelius as an excellent and skilled cabin attendant. Most of the reviews have already described the friendliness of the crew (which I thought had actually declined since our last cruise), great job by Mike the cruise director and the good food in the MDR and buffet so I will leave it there by agreeing wholeheartedly. Entertainment: We had a great magician (Jamie Allan) and comedian (Naster) on our cruise who were both very high quality and very talented. However, the cast shows were really low quality and particularly the singers. Male vocalists on the ship sang dated songs and were not special in any way. Finally, if you like team trivia and various game shows, THIS is the cruise for you. Daily entertainment is abundant and fun. RCI is starting to economize and various changes are evident. On our last cruises on Oasis and Grandeur, Diamond members got a few hours of complimentary internet time. Now that is gone along with per minute plans to use the internet with the substitution of an exorbitant daily rate or whole cruise package as the only choices. I saw few people using the internet terminals unlike our previous cruise and myself and others getting free internet in our port stops. I love to have smoked salmon as part of breakfast on cruises but that was present in the Windjammer only once or twice that I noticed during a 12 day cruise vs. every morning previously; the quality was pretty bad in comparison to other ships we have been on. Beef used to prepare some of the various stew-type dishes in the Windjammer was frequently so tough as to be inedible. Hamburgers and meatballs were made with ground beef that often had inedible chunks of gristle. Other than those items most food was quite good in all of the restaurants including the MDR, Chops and Giovanni's. Major Negatives: The Centrum on the Grandeur is used for musical entertainment and dancing and for other things like dance and exercise classes. In the evening particularly, the sound level of the band and screaming singers and DJs was often well above 125dB (decibels) on the OSHA sound meter app. on our smart phone. At 100dB that can cause permanent hearing damage, OSHA recommend less than 15 minutes of exposure MAXIMUM to level of 100dB.............so you get the picture of how loud that Centrum "entertainment" is on the Grandeur and similar ships when the "entertainment" starts cranking (earplugs anyone???). Smoking is allowed in the Casino that is connected with the Centrum by a short hallway. The smell of smoke drifts into the Centrum and was often detectable at various times. Obviously the air circulation in the Casino is not adequately exhausting the air from there and it is thus forced into the adjoining hallways and entertainment spaces.......GROSS for non-smokers like us. The mattresses on the Grandeur as showing their advanced age as is the ship. Mine had a distict "valley" in it that I just lived with for 12 nights. Finally, we were on Deck 7 and endured constant sewer gas smells in the bathroom presumably coming from the floor drain in the backside of the toilet. Complaints to our room attendant mollified the smells for a few days but they returned so I had to routinely run the shower hand nozzle into that drain and cover it with a towel. I see another review on CC where the same problem was reported for a cabin on Deck 7on the same side as our cabin so this may be a system problem on this ship on this deck on the port side. Read Less

We booked this cruise (OK - I booked this cruise) after watching too much beachfront bargain hunt and seeing a piece on St. Croix. Our daughter lives 15 min from the port, so we thought it would be an easy to/from. Then she threw a curveball into the mix and told us she was pregnant and due 12 days before out sail! But she delivered early (our grandson was born on Christmas morning) and we went on the cruise and spent a few days after with them to give them a bit of a break. We have cruised a total of 5 times prior to this, including RCI, Celebrity, and Princess. And that was spread over 20 years. So we are not big cruisers. If you are reading this to get info on pools, bingo, or trivia you can get out now because we did none of that. Our cabin was 2618 - the lowest deck we have been on. It was perfect. It was quiet, easy on/off when in port, and we had an awesome cabin steward - Dean. Very little movement even when the cruise was hitting rougher seas. We did my time dining and loved it. We made reservations only the first night. Typically we would go to the early show (7) and go to dinner after that and we were always seated without a wait and with the exception of the last night - when we went to dinner early - were seated with the same wait staff. Always at a table for 2. Food was good to great, and we enjoyed the dining room for dinner. We did the Windjammer one night when hubby was feeling a bit punk, but other than that all dinners were in the dining room. We did 2 breakfasts in the dining room and enjoyed the company and the service, but typically did the Windjammer. Other than lunch on embarkation day and one day with a later excursion we did the Windjammer. Those 2 days we did lunch from the Park Cafe. We enjoyed most of the shows, opted out of a couple. We arrived at the theater about a half hour before the show and few were there. About 15 min before it started to fill up. All shows we attended we enjoyed. Our fave quite space to read was deck 5 on a lounger. Our favorite place for a drink was the Centrum where Deborah from the R Bar took great care of us. We attended a couple of daytime activities, my primary one being learning the Thriller Dance which we performed the last night. Very fun! The crew - amazing!!! I get why people go time and time again on this ship. Yes, she is old, and she shows her age in places but so do we! We loved not only the crew but the passengers whom we found to be so very friendly. Read Less

There was so much to choose from. Ev3n the items they had offered everyday was fantastic! The only major downfall was that it was too rough to go to CocoCay. We hauled all our snorkeling equipment for nothing. This was a smaller ship, which I liked. There was only a couple times it was hard to find a table at the buffet, but was able to take our food to the adult area to eat. The cabins were bigger than I thought they would be. There were plenty of drawers, we didn’t even fill them all. The movie screen in the pool area wasn’t the best, kinda hard to watch. I wish that they had a more affordable water package like other cruise lines so we wouldn’t have to carry it on. My husband uses a cpap machine and they had a gallon of distilled water and an extension cord waiting for us in the cabin. I wouldn’t think twice about doing another cruise with Royal Carribean. We chose this cruise due to port proximity and cruise length. We live in North VA. The Grandeur seemed to rock and sway more than previous ships we have cruised, the weather did not seem bad enough most of the time to cause the extreme rocking. The Grandeur staff was friendly, other than the French lady at the excursion desk, she seemed to be tired and irritated every time we spoke to her, but she still took care of us every time. Parking: Baltimore cruise terminal was awesome! Easy to find and reasonably priced at $15 a day. There was a lot of friendly help to get u around to where we needed to go. Boarding: Boarding was also fast, although a bit unorganized. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Disembarkation: Fast and awesome! Gym: We did not use the gym since the elliptical I normally use were in the back with no sea view. Other than that, it was small and clean. Food: The food at the buffet was great, and we only ate once at the main dining room. It took us about two hours to have a lackluster meal at the main dining room with a bunch of unfriendly and rude people. Chops Grill: This restaurant was mediocre. Great service by the staff but the steaks were meh! We ate here three times hoping we would like it more the next time, but no luck. Izumi: This was our favorite restaurant on the ship. Great food and service. We ate here three times. Excursions: Only want to mention that we did several beach/restaurant excursions that were not the best for the money paid due to local harassment and poor facilities (chairs, Sun shades). You will do best and save a ton of money if you go on your own, we’ll research more next time. We used Bernard Tours in St. Marten, we have used them before and really liked them. This time it was horrible, the company has grown tremendously and they no longer take great care of cruisers. They never came to meet us at the pier as in past trips, and we had to run around asking where to find them. We were the only cruisers on the excursion, probably for good reason. We will not use them again. Teen Center: Our 13-year-old girl loved the teen center and spent considerable time there. Internet: We bough WIFI for two devices. It was ok, but very slow. Read Less

This was probably my 12th time on Grandeur, but my partner's very first cruise. I always wanted to go on a holiday cruise and this was the perfect opportunity. It has been about a year and a half since I last sailed on RC, and some changes weren't for the better. The dining room menus have changed a great deal, and the food was not of the quality I have come to expect and appreciate. We listened to a talk with the Captain, Hotel Manager, and Chief Engineer, and it was said that the new menus are something they are trying...I hope things go back to the way they were. I am sure they won't, as it is obviously a cost cutting maneuver, but one can dream... Service is wonderful, as it has always been on this ship. My daughter and I mistakenly took a Carnival cruise last fall and it made me appreciate the service on RC all the more. My only real complaint for the trip is one that I should have anticipated from the time I booked....I thought a 12 night trip would not be full of children, but I was so wrong. The holidays brought many, many children on the trip, and between small ones whose parents let them run wild, playing on the stairways and dance floors so that people could hardly pass or dance, to teenagers who daily seemed to band into large foul mouthed groups...well, it was not a great atmosphere. But again, I should have anticipated this and only have myself to blame for choosing a holiday cruise. I always spend most of the ship time in the Solarium, but that wasn't to be, as the cold weather for the days at sea caused them to open up the pool to children...there were posted times for them to be there, but parents ignored it for the most part and the area was full of shrieking children most of the time. The other problem was the large groups of teenagers (with their foul language) who gathered for hours in there. I finally found a place to read up in the Viking Crown...just wish I had thought of it earlier in the trip. So it was a good cruise, with a lesson learned for the future, which is that I like ships with a much older group and while I will still go on the Grandeur, I will be much more careful in choosing my dates! Baltimore is close to home. Saving airfair allows $$ for massages and a suite. The extra room and balcony was great. A quiet place to relax. Room service was great on a rocky sea night. After a busy day on excursions it was wonderful to have some room to stretch out and relax. I want my vacation to be relaxing. For excursions we go snorkeling so a lack of physical activities on board are not missed. Yes the clientele does tend to run older. I guess I am beginning to fall into that category in my mid 50s. The older crowd did seem to have fun. Many have sailed multiple times on this ship and many have many friends they meet on board. This is my 2nd sailing. Many guests seemed to have bonded with their servers in the main dining room. Our head waiter took very good care of my party of 3. I like the food in the windjammer. Give it an 8. The main dining room is my favorite for dinner. Last cruise we tried the specialty dining and only return to Izumi. Luckily there was not the hard sell for specialty dining this year. I am not a big one for shows, eating at 8 made it hard to see any. Watched them a day later on ship tv. Not much for line dancing and ballroom,swing, etc but those who did join seemed to have a good time. It is hard to find a seat in common areas with the older crowd but with a suite we could find seating in the concierge lounge. The cruise director had a good time and many of the activities were humorous. Perhaps it was due to my first cruise or it being over the Christmas holidays for last year but the presence of the cruise director was non-existent last year while he was everywhere this year. I don’t have kids and appreciated the lack of kids on the trip. Last year for Christmas they were running around unchecked. We picked some beach escape excursions and they are just not worth it. Love the catamarans and snorkel. The best of beach, sailing and swimming -no more beach escapes for us. The rum tours on St Croix was great. St Kitts to Nevis Fan2Sea catamaran is a favorite. The biggest issue and it’s a problem we have seen for the last two years are the vendors who really won’t take no for an answer and return repeatedly to sell trinkets, massages etc. When all you want is to soak up some sun. Fantastic ship, wonderful crew, and lots of fun on the ship. Overall, great experience! A few specifics: Ship: Very well cared for, always clean, and we always saw people dusting cleaning, and keeping up with the wear and tear of use. It's a very small ship that doesn't require a lot of walking to get places. That's one of the things that attracts the much older crowd. I think the median age of the clientele was about 75. Lots of scooters and walkers! It will never be updated to include all the newfangled things on the newer, larger ships. VERY loyal clientele coming out of Baltimore. Cabin: Had an inside cabin on 8 under the Serenity pool area (which was sometimes referred to as God's Waiting Room). Very quiet, didn't hear anything in the hall, above, below, or next to us. Hard to hear the announcements in the cabin, so you have to open the door when they start. The only thing I was annoyed about in the cabin was that the bed (as a king) and the dresser touched corners, which made a great place to keep laundry hidden and separate from the rest of our stuff, but annoying to get out of bed on the one side. Dining: Every time I told someone we were trying Royal for the first time, they told me just how amazing the food was. "So much better than the other cruise lines!" they'd say. It wasn't. It was about on par with every other line we've been on. Tried Giovani's Table, which was excellent, but they just kept bringing food after we told them we were full. A lot of wasted food. And whoever the pastry chef was should be fired for thinking that galaktoboureko was somehow a dry, semolina dough ball instead of a custard layered onto phylo dough. Overall the food was good. Very wide variety in the Windjamer for both lunch and dinner. Breakfast was standard fare, dining room breakfast was useless. Lunch in the dining room was also useless. Both had fixed menus that rarely changed. Dinners in the Dining Room was pretty good on most nights. Don't even try the coffee. Just go to Starbucks every morning. Sometimes they forget and brew 2 vats of coffee per 1 packet of coffee grounds. Entertainment & Activities: If you're into trivia, you'll be sorely disappointed. Why? Because people ruin everything. On our sailing was a group of about 12 people who had sailed so many times that they knew every answer. Maybe change up the questions, trade with another ship, whatever. Shows were adequate, as were the other things to do. But god help you if you don't get there early - you will NOT get a seat. Oh, and if you want to rock climb, don't even thing about doing it with slightly damp clothing! They'll send you away. Service: OUT-gorram-standing service! Every crew member we met was fantastic! This is the one thing that really saved this ship from being tedious. Ports & Excursions: 3 days out and back from Baltimore was long, but it's OK. Just have to make sure to plan more indoor activities for people other than gambling on the colder days. Read Less

Embarkment and disembarkment in Baltimore is smooth and awesome. They are truly a wonderful port to cruise out of. As for the dining experience, the wait staff go above and beyond. BUT.....the food choices need to change. It is the same mundane food every day. They need to have someone in charge of the menus who can change things up. Most of us decided to eat in the windjammer instead of the dining room. They really need to step it up with the food. We were not impressed. It has really gone downhill. The itinerary was perfect. St Croix, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Martel and St Johns Antigua. We met a lot of awesome people, did excursions at each port and visited some awesome beaches. In St Croix we did an outside excursion with Caribbean Adventure to Buck Island. They were the perfect tour guides, teaching you the right way to snorkel and going above and beyond and Turtle Beach was pristine and awesome. We were the only people on the island. Picture perfect. In St Johns Antigua we went to Ffryes Beach. This beach was beautiful, no rocks cushiony white sand and turquoise water. Calm waters, complete serenity. In St Lucia we went on a pirate ship to the Pistons. The trip on the ship was outstanding,along with the crew. As far as the mineral and mud baths it was a waste of time and I would not recommend that part. But the pirate ship trip was a blast and jumping off of the ship into the caribbean was a true experience. In St Kitts, we went to the Carambole Beach Club on South Friars. This place is awesome, no fee to get in only 10.00 for beach chairs and umbrellas. Beautiful clear water and the fish swim with you. In St Martin we took a Rhino Rider Adventure. It was fun driving these when you were in the coves but as you went out further and the water was a little wavy it beat the he'll out of your button. Then we went to Maho beach where the planes take off and land over the beach. It was an awesome experience and the beach and water are beautiful. Read Less

Background information: I booked this cruise with my recently widowed sister so that we could have some sister time together. It was her first regular cruise (she did one previously with Tauck) and her first time to Bermuda. It was my 27th cruise, and my 7th visit to Bermuda - my third on Grandeur of the Seas. I was 80 years old at the time of the cruise and I use a mobility scooter to get around. The scooter easily folds into a small light package, but my (younger) sister fell just before the cruise and sprained her wrist so while she could fold the scooter, I didn't want her to have to do so. Travel to embarkation port; Normally for embarkation in Baltimore, we drive up and stay at a hotel which offers free parking, but for this cruise, my sister came down to Baltimore on the train the day before and my husband Bob was dropping us off and picking us up. On embarkation day we drove straight up to the Cruise Maryland terminal and got there about 12:30. They gave Bob a big orange window sign that said Drop Off and we gave our two bags to the baggage men. Bob put together the scooter, put the red duffel with the scooter charger underneath the seat and my computer bag on the back and I put my pocketbook under the seat and he bungie corded my cane to the front of the scooter, and we got in line. (My sister just had a large pocketbook) Embarkation: My sister had to put the red duffel bag, my pocketbook and the computer bag, plus my camera and my cell phone through the scanner and then they were going to pat me down. She started to load stuff back on the scooter before they got to me to pat me down, and they reprimanded us for that and made the red bag go through again. Then we got to where we gave them our passports and our set-sail passes. The lady had a problem that my passport says my name is Rosalie Ann (with a space) and my registration says RosalieAnn without a space. She said she had to get that changed, and the confusion, she forgot to photograph us. We got on the ship at deck 1 with the wheelchair people instead of going up the ramp, but when we handed our cards to the lady at the entrance, there were no photos on them !!! So she took our photos there. God knows what they look like. I took off my hat and my hair is probably all on end. I guess it is fortunate that no one sees them except the ship company. The lifeboat drill was out on the deck and took a long time. They put all the people on scooters or with wheelchairs in one section so I could actually see what was going on, but on other ships, they do this drill for the handicapped people indoors so the people with them can sit down. Ship information: Grandeur is a smaller ship, which I appreciate. The only complaint I have about the ship is that it is very noisy. The music in the atrium is LOUD. If I were not already partly deaf, I would be after spending any time in the atrium. The internet connection was quite good in our cabin but I had signed up and then canceled and signed up for a different package, so I got two computer cards at embarkation. The man in the computer lab was excellent at straightening this out. The elevators were pretty quick and I didn't usually have a long wait, but I always had a hard time when I got off the elevator in figuring out which way to turn to get to our cabin. My sister quite liked the spa. We both swam in the spa pool which was nice and warm (it was salt water). I loved the spa pool, but for my sister the pool was 5'4" deep - too deep for her to stand, and it made it hard for her to keep the splint on her hand out of the water, so she mostly went up there to sit and read as it was warm and quiet up there. The library is pretty useless. We looked to see if they had a backgammon board, but they did not and the library is right off the atrium so it is very noisy. The band that played in the atrium was quite good and they played classical music in the afternoon which was nice and not as loud as at night. The climbing wall was sometimes closed because of the wind conditions, but we weren't going to be doing that anyway!! The ship made good time to Bermuda and probably could have docked at 2 pm - the five day cruises arrive on the second day at 1 pm. But they took the long way around the island instead of just going straight in and the reason for this was apparent when we got around to King's Wharf. Disney Magic was still at our spot on the pier. So we had to wait until the tugs pulled her off the pier before we could dock. We did not get docked until 5, and the Craft Market was closed by then. That was a waste of time we could have had in Bermuda Activities: I did not do any of the regular scheduled activities such as bingo or trivia because I was too busy talking to my sister. We haven't traveled together just the two of us (without husbands or parents) since 1964. There were two formal nights. One was the first sea day and the other was the day before Halloween. Since Halloween was the last night on the ship, the cruise director scheduled the Halloween costume parade on the second formal night so that we would not have to be packing and doing costumes on the last night. This worked REALLY well. My sister was Red Riding Hood and I was Grandma after the wolf ate her. There was a great parade of costumes with prizes. The only problem with this was the noise - the music was played so loud that you had to yell in someone's ear for them to hear you. Cruise Critics meeting was on the first sea day and they had munchies and drinks and a nice raffle for prizes. I think they should have people introduce themselves, but RCCI does not seem to do that. There was a meeting for Platinum and above at 10:00 and I had to leave breakfast (because service was slow) in order to get to it and I was 15 or 20 minutes late. The Captain and the Cruise Director spoke to us and told some jokes. All the heads of the departments were introduced and each said where they were from and thanked all of us for sailing with Royal. They had an award for the couple who were Pinnacle Plus (more than 700 days cruising) and also a Crystal award for another couple. Entertainment: I didn't go to any of the shows or lectures, but my sister did and she liked them. Some of the shows were broadcast on the TV later Dining: We went up to the WIndjammer for lunch on embarkation, and never used it again. I can't hold a plate and a glass and still run the scooter and there was no one to help at all. The labels and some of the dishes were over my head, so my sister had to get me something to eat and drink. It is perhaps unfair to judge the Windjammer on the basis of embarkation lunch, but we never went there again. For dinner, we had My Time Dining and we got a nice table for 10 at 5 pm which we had for the rest of the cruise thanks to the guy assigning the tables. Service there was great. The quality of the food was sometimes good and sometimes not so good. The cakes tended to be dry. There was one lobster night which also included strawberry soup (very good) and baked Alaska We used Izumi one time. Japanese food is not my "cup of tea", but my sister who often eats Japanese food and is a better judge than I am liked it very well, and thought that the prices were quite reasonable. My sister also like the Ben & Jerry's ice cream Since we were not using the Windjammer, we always had breakfast in the MDR. Service was quite slow. It did not matter if you ordered the Express Breakfast or the Special of the day - it was the same as far as speed went. They had a buffet set-up for fruit and cold cereal but my problem with this was the same as with the Windjammer. One morning was Chocolate morning, and the chocolate bread was delicious. If we wanted breakfast before the MDR opened, we had Room Service. A hot breakfast it is $7.95 extra plus a 15% tip, but if you don't get a hot breakfast (by which they apparently mean eggs), it is free. So we ordered oatmeal and tea and English muffins for 6:30 to 7 and a wake-up call for 6:30. At 6:20 I got a call that breakfast was coming. He needed two trips because the hot water for the tea would not fit on the tray. The tea was hot but the English muffins were barely warm and ditto the oatmeal. I ate mine, but my sister didn't want just barely warm oatmeal. The second day in port we just had yoghurt, fruit and tea from Room Service. Lunch in the MDR also has a buffet section for a chopped salad which I hesitated to use because I thought I would have a problem doing this on the scooter. On the last day at lunch I did try it and it was excellent, but I did have to carry my plate back to the table myself. On other ships when I have done this, one of the servers carried my plate back to the table for me. Shore excursions: I booked two excursions for Sunday which I thought I could reasonably do on a scooter and which would give my sister a good overview of Bermda. One was the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo (BAMZ), and the other was a boat tour of the island both listed as Easy. I had booked a private guide for Monday. The excursion desk switched the BAMZ tour to Monday, so we canceled that one. When I got the tickets for the boat tour, it said that people must be able to walk and climb steps. That was NOT on the excursion write-up on the website or on the printed information about the excursion. I can walk a little and if I have to I can climb steps but I decided to cancel this excursion too. I talked to someone who took it and she said that the boarding ramp was a narrow shaky plank so it is probably good that I canceled it. Instead we booked little red train (The Scenic West End Trolley) and that was scheduled to meet at 9:15 for an hour tour. We thought maybe we could go to church afterward. They said that I could not take my scooter on the train (although I really could have done as there was space for it folded up), so I decided that I would leave the scooter on the ship on deck 1. They offered me a wheelchair so I took it to the end of the ship where there was a little tent with seats and we sat there. But 9:15 came and went and we did not see the little red train. The lady that said she would come and get us when the time came, did NOT come and get us and when I finally saw the train out about 400 yards from me she had already gone past. So with great difficulty, I walked, stopping at each bollard to rest, and finally got to the street where the train was and collapsed into a seat where the taxi drivers wait. It came around the corner to us so I could get on. By now it was 9:40. The actual tour was nice. The driver (Sidney who was 92 years old) explained a lot of Bermuda history including how they built their houses and how the roofs are configured to collect water. He said when modern houses are build, they dig a big hole as big as the largest room, and then line it to make it waterproof. That acts as a cistern and they build the house on top of it. He went out of the dockyard and all the way to Somerset Parish. We had thought that we could get to church after the train ride, but we did not get back to the dockyard area until about 11:30 and then instead of taking us back to the ship he let us off at the Clocktower Mall. This was not acceptable - I could not walk back to the ship and I couldn't stand and wait for the free train to get back there either as I would still have had to walk quite a distance from the free train to the ship. Independent Activities in Port: After the excursion driver dropped us at the Clocktower Mall I hired a taxi [Conrad Albouy (441-334-8796)] for $50/hour and we went to lunch at The Swizzle and to the BAMZ. Then on Monday I had a guide my husband and I had used before [Lewis Foggo email: lewis_foggo@hotmail.com]. He gave us an excellent tour. He showed us where the ship logos that had been painted on the walls in the dockyard were erased by the Americas Cup people. We saw a lot of beautiful beaches and overlooks. He showed us a property for sale They want $695,000.00 for 0.28 acres (a little over a quarter of an acre). There was nothing on it. He said no one had bought it because they were asking too much money. He took us up to a fort on a hill, and we went to St. David's Lighthouse. We even got to see the ducking in St. George which I had never been there in time to see before. Service: Our room steward was very good and gave us ice for my sister to put in the ice bag for her wrist. The service in the MDR at dinner was very good. Breakfast service was cheerful but slow. Disembarkation We got our disembarkation tickets and times in the stateroom on the 29th. On November 1st we are to get off between 9:15 and 9:30. (Green 21) - the next to last time. I went up to ask about it. The customer service desk estimated 45 minutes to get our bags and get out to be picked up, which would be about 10 am. She says that my husband Bob who is picking us up will only be able to wait for a couple of minutes. Since he will be driving 100 miles to pick us up, and we are not really sure when we will be off the ship, this might be a problem. I thought Bob would leave about 8 to get there at 10. But I was worried as I had not heard from him for the whole length of the cruise. So about 6:45 I tried to call and got the answering machine each time. Eventually I called our daughter in Texas because she said she would check on him to be sure he wasn't doing the back house roof (which he was) when he was home alone. She said he hadn't seemed to be getting my emails. (He said later that they had all gone to spam). We vacated the cabin and went to breakfast about 7:45 with the carry-on luggage (for me this was my computer bag and my pocketbook and cane as I had sent the red bag with the charger down with the suitcase and my sister just had a large purse). We both got the Express breakfast, which still wasn't very express.They had told me that they would announce disembarkation numbers in the restaurant, but they did not. So when we finished breakfast they were up to #17. We went and sat in the library with a couple people who were B2B. We were supposed to wait on deck 6 but then I would have had to get an elevator up and then an elevator down. I turned my phone on and we got in line a little after our group was called about 8:55. At 9:15 we were still in line in the atrium (there was some hold-up downstream) and Bob called that he was there. They would let wheelchair people get off on deck 1 (where we had gotten on), but I saw no reason to do that as I knew from previous experience that getting an elevator down there would be the hard part. We inched our way down and through the walkway to the terminal. There was a large man/boy ahead of us carrying two small bags and he kept trying to sit or lean on the HVAC systems which were posted NOT to sit or lean on and which had benches right next to them if you needed to sit. Went through immigration (there was no customs to go through), and then went to find our bags. Bob usually finds the bags and brings them to me, but my sister was not so organized. I put the red bag on the scooter and then we found my bag, but my sister had found her bag and then lost it again (It was black like all the other bags and she has not apparently learned Mother's trick of tying some colorful thing to the handle) Then we went outside and the cars picking people up were all by the fence out by the road. Bob was there. He was able to wait for more than a few minutes. He took my sister to the train station and then we drove home. Summary I enjoyed the cruise and I always enjoy Bermuda. But I don't think I have converted my sister to cruising. Read Less

On joining the ship my case was withheld and I had to muster in the lower deck to retrieve it, to be told that the £48 bottle of whisky was to be taken and "destroyed"! in New York I had had a small glass from the total of one litre. On asking to witness the destruction of my whisky, I was informed that It wasn't possible; and that the security would deal with it. I bet they did, no doubt shared around. It should be policy that any confiscated drink if not kept as an unopened bottle, should be poured down the sink in font of the owner. out of order RC. This sadly set the tone for the rest of the cruise, with gratuities added daily; and not informed that no one needs to pay this, but one can pay those in the tips envelopes to those you choose at the end of the cruise. I was charged for a treatment in the spa I did not request or receive. The staff were superb and the waiters in the Great Gatsby made our cruise, the young guy who daily did our cabin was also top notch. We have decided cruising is not for us, great if you like a Butlins at sea. Read Less
